Really awesome prof- Dr.Merritt is a new professor, and he is the best teacher I've ever had!! His analogies and explanations make everything so easy to understand. He offers exam review sessions before each exam. Blogs and homework are available bring up your grade, TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!!!
Great Professor! I actually knew what was going on in the lab! I wish I would have had him for lecture!
I had Professor Taylor for lab and he was a very easy grader and made sure to help everyone the best he could. Great professor for lab..
I would recommend professor Taylor to anyone taking BMS 291. The course is hard but he makes the material very easy to understand and learn. He is very fair in his grading and allows you to redo bad assignments. Great Professor!!
Extremely helpful and has a great sense of humor. Very leinent on grading and gives the oppurtunity to redo lab reports for full credit!!! He wants to see his students do well and is more the ready to help if you need it. Great prof with a great personality. I loved taking his lab.
Stutters way too much for me. Difficult to understand. Just take his lab and not his lectures.
Take this Prof. if there is anyway you can! Truly wants to see his students do well. Very helpful and tries to make a diffucult class as easy as possible. Makes you understand things but helps along the way. Great guy!
Professor Taylor was really helpful. He really cared about how students performed. I had him for both lab and lecture and both were well taught classes. He even asks for suggestions on how the class should be run mid-semester, and actually changes things people didn't like.
Great Prof, his lectures were so good I never studied for the exams - and got 95% or better on every one! Is is very approachable and makes the necessary changes for students to do well in his course. Take this prof if you have the chance!
Prof. Taylor is a very caring and willing teacher. He goes above and beyond for students. Most exams scores were a b- average which is really high for a BMS course. He is pretty goofy, but really enjoys what hes doing. Like I said, "he goes above and beyond" compared to most professors with classroom sizes over 100.
He can be very unclear in lecture as the topic bounces around a lot, but he does enjoy the subject and makes lecture interesting. Many times I think we leave lecture more confused than when we came.
Prof Taylor has been one of my favorites this year. He enjoys what he does, and because of that, class is much more enjoyable. When things get confusing, he's more than willing to answer absolutely anything and goes out of his way to make sure youre comfortable with the material. I would definately reccomend him!
Prof. Merritt was very helpful during the semester, he was really good at dumbing things down to the students level. It was the best of the worst classes I've taken at GV. I suggest him if you want to learn and you don't have a problem studying.
He is a very good professor and I highly advise people to take him. You have to go to class and read the book, but he gives you a study guide for each test and if you can answer all the questions you will have no problem.
Taylor was a good professor. He was great at making hard material understandable for students. He stutters a lot and has crazy analogies, but it makes class interesting. He gives study guides which are helpful. The class requires a lot of studying to get an A, but Taylor definately makes it a little eaiser. I would reccomend him!
He's a really nice guy, and he cares about the students' success. He's willing to go above and beyond to help students struggling to understand the material. However, lectures were often confusing and seemed poorly organized. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, though since he is fairly new at teaching. Hopefully his teaching style will develop.
Lectures were poorly organized and often very confusing. Exams were very difficult.
He cares a lot about his students. He was unclear at times, but when questions were unclear he gave the points back to the students. He really wants you to learn. I would recommend taking him. He is a very nice guy, and going to his office hours really helps.
He's not a bad prof! VERY caring about his students--wants them to learn! Lectures a while before lab, but he posts lab report guides online and will bend over backward to help! Just make sure you STUDY for those quizes and exams! He's good but he's not necessarily an easy exam/quiz giver. But it's way worth it for how much he's willing to help.
He is a goofy guy. Kinda nerdy in a funny way. Has the coolest analogies and metaphors for explaining concepts. 8/10 times he is able to explain a concept very well. He really cares and is more than glad to help if you need it. Tests aren't bad at all. Just do some studying. There's quite a bit of material but definately better than I thought.
Very nice guy, wants to help in any way he can. However, he is VERY unorganized and often forgets what slides he's posted and what he hasn't. Not really easy, but definitely fair. You don't really need the text book, most questions come right from the lecture notes.
Great Prof, pretty easy to understand provided you attend lectures, everything you need to know is all on the lecture slide. Yes, he did mess up on a few slides here and there but that not enof to make you fail the class. I will definitely recommend him.
He wasnt a horrible teacher, however he wasnt my favorite. This is a hard class..be prepared to study! Tests are over a LOT of information. I ended up with a C and I'm a good student.
One of the best Profs I've had at GVSU so far. Very knowledgeable and his analogies make the material really understandable. Always willing to re-explain a concept if someone asks. It's clear that he wants his students to learn, & his goofy jokes always lighten the mood! Don't put studying off until the last minute and you'll do fine in his class
Hes dorky but i totally hit that.
Taylor is the absolute best prof. I've ever had. He is super helpful, he really wants to see his students excel. His test are very easy, it's like a- you know it or you don't- kind of test but be sure to STUDY, STUDY HARD. This information is not easy to grasp. Besides that, you should be A-O-K. Taylor's AWESOME
Hard class, but great professor. He makes good analogies and is very funny. He is very helpful and willing to meet with students. Just make sure you start studying early.
Professor Taylor was entertaining with his animations in class and examples. He actually gives you more work than just exams, which is nice because if you do bad on an exam you can still bring your grade up. You have an online quiz that you can do with classmates (easy) which is worth 15pts each..easy points. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this professor
Very Helpful and fair to students!! Understanding!!
Dr. Taylor is nice and very helpful to students. He is a great presenter and makes paying attention very easy. Though he is very helpful he is not always timely with updating grades. I would recommend him. This is a hard course, but he does his best to help you do your best.
Very helpful. First two tests a breeze, third test more difficult. Class runs off of powerpoint presentations.
Taylor was very helpful outside of class and during, willing to answer any questions and make sure that his students were clear on the material. He wants you to succeed, that is evident. His lectures are powerpoint and the information is well provided.
This professor is really interesting, and teaches well, but his exams do not match what he teaches. He expects students to somehow relate what they learned to clinical experiences, without help or guidance. I still think he is better than the other prof for this class though. Tough class, many people retake it.
Taylor made an 8am class worth coming to with his hilarious analogies. His lectures were interesting, and he was very concerned that students understand the material. He is very helpful, but watch out for mistakes on his quizzes/tests. He doesn't always get grades back right away (especially grades that he has to fix), but I recommend him anyway.
Professor Taylor is a very good professor. I learned a lot in his class but have to retake it. Be sure to stay on top of the information and read all the chapters. It's not just enough to know his information but to be able to apply it as well. His tests and quizzes are all applying the info to clinical situations.
Merritt Taylor Rocks!!! Sometimes while he's lecturing I can't pay attention, first because I'm still thinking about the last crazy joke he made, and second because he is smoking hot!! Sure the jokes may not be very relevant to the material but who cares, he's Hot! I would not be nearly as interested in Biomedical Science, except he's teaching.
The most hilarious prof. at GVSU (perhaps anywhere). His lectures make my day!
Nice professor if not a little scatter brained. Really really smart and into the topic. Will learn a lot and he makes it easy to learn. Really wants his students to do well and is willing to meet with students to explain things or just talk about interesting stuff. Really recommend both him and the class.
Good professor overall. Not always the clearest in lecture but very helpful in office hours. He gives a very good review packet. Fill it out and talk it over with him in office hours, it helps a lot!
There is a reading quiz and an application quiz most days. With having so many quizes, doing poorly on one or two won't hurt you that much. This creates a really relaxed environment which I found to be a really nice change from other classes. He has a way of making topics I have covered in other classes so much more clear. Great professor.
Dr. Taylor is AMAZING! His exams are mostly clinical situations where you have to apply the material you've learned. Yes, it's hard, but will benefit you greatly in a future clinical setting. Be sure to visit him in his office, he is very willing to help clarify things! Oh, and he is also very funny and has great analogies.
Dr. Taylor is a great professor; You couldn't ask for more on difficult topics like neuro. He is extremely patient and genuinely interested in students comprehension. He is willing to adjust the pace of the class as well as meeting during office hours to elaborate. A great course with a great instructor.
TAKE HIS CLASS. Great professor! Extremely nice and willing to help you with almost any questions you have! Favorite professor and certainly made the class more fun with his analogies. He can be a little unclear sometimes during lecture, but if you are willing to overlook that and just ask him to clarify then he will help straighten things out.
Great prof. He can be a little unclear in lecture, but he's more than willing to go over things again. His analogies are great. Tests are mostly clinical examples, which can be tricky, but it makes you learn the concepts as opposed to just memorizing them.
He is unclear in lecture but he is always available and willing in office hours to clarify. He is a really nice guy and wants you to do the best. There was a nice curve at the end of the class that is definitely necessary. His exams were alright, definitely possible to ace if you put the time in. I recommend him. Dont necessarily need the book
Dr Taylor is great! He is definitely one of those profs who is kinda nerdy but knows his stuff. His examples are a lot of the time dorky/silly but they make sense. He's really approachable too.
Taylor is obviously very smart and really good at explaining the material, but I felt the exams were quite difficult. If you have Taylor, I would recommend studying well in advance and reviewing the qwork assignments because most of the exam questions were similar in nature.
This was one of the best professors I have ever had. He was happy to take time out of his schedule and help you with whatever you needed. He actually made me enjoy going to lab every week.
Dr. Taylor is very good at teaching physiology. He used a lot of in class drawing/diagramming exercises which were very helpful. He was able to make each body system seem simple and provided a lot of funny analogies for the physiological causes. I thought his exams were fare as well.
Nice guy and very helpful. Yet he never went over notes in class and it was mostly based off of online lectures which took to much extra time to complete. His exams were very detailed and pretty hard.
Very nice guy. Tries very hard to make sure you understand. Kind of talks a lot.. But over all great guy and loves what he does! Take him! Especially for 291
Great professor! Runs a reverse class so lectures are all online and class time is used for clarification and example problems. Worked pretty well. Really tries to help students understand the concepts and uses a lot of metaphors and alternate explanations. Very helpful and nice. Exams make you think but aren't particularly hard. I recommend
Taylor is a great teacher! Knows what he is talking about and uses great examples. Posts lectures online to help clarify the topics and is a good study tool. You have some in class quizzes but are just for 1-2 points and then he gives out some extra credit towards the end of the semester. I would advise taking this teacher!
Taylor goes above and beyond to make phys lab as easy as possible. Provides great class notes, always available to answer questions, will preview reports and return with comments before they're actually due. Lab reports are lengthy but Taylor is extremely helpful!
Merrit Taylor is the BEST professor I have ever had in my entire college career. He really cares and explains everything really well. I highly recommend him if you have the chance!
Taylor is a great instructor, especially for a tougher class like phys. His tests were tough if you aren't prepared but easy if you are (I've been both), and always fair. The flipped classroom wasn't my favorite since I was always behind, but if you put the time in its very helpful. I would highly recommend him and would take him again.
Probably the best educator at GV. Knowledgable, affable, technologically proficient, and really devoted to the student's learning. The exams are difficult but fair. Overall I feel like this class made me better as an individual. Take this prof. if you get the chance.
Dr. Taylor is a great professor. He is really difficult and sometimes he doesn't understand that we have other classes. He has audiofiles and doesn't "teach" everything that are in his powerpoints. He just goes over the concepts that he thinks are important and some concepts are completely ignored.
I really liked having Dr. Taylor. He really cared about his students and was always, ALWAYS willing to clarify confusing concepts - all you had to do was ask. Yes, his exams were very tough, and seemed unfair to some people who hadn't listened to the audio files and had not taken good notes. But do the work and you'll be fine! Highly recommend!
Amazing Professor! He really knows his stuff! He does anything to help and gives great study tips! Although I didn't get the grade I felt I deserved, that was completely my fault for not studying enough for the final. He has audio lectures and difficult homework but you really learn a lot! tests are difficult but not tricky
Gives detailed packets (don't bother buying the book), records all lecture audio, grades consist of 2 exams. An awesome prof who's always willing to help even outside of office hours. Highly recommend!!!
Taylor is probably one of the best profs I've had at gv. He genuinely cares about his class and is more than willing to help you. His exams are hard if you don't prepare for them but super easy if you do. He explains everything clearly and tells you exactly what he wants you to learn! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Professor Taylor used the flipped classroom style for this course, so you listen to his lecture online on your own time and then he clarifies and goes over what he considers important in class. While difficult to sit and listen to lectures outside class, his approach was helpful and I would recommend him. If you attend class you'll do fine.
Dr. Taylor's a good guy and will help you to the best of his ability - he truly cares for his students. I never once used the textbook, and got a B+ in the class by attending lectures 75% of the time and listening to his .mp3's. If you want that A, attend all of his classes, he'll tell you exactly what you need to know for exams.
Dr. Taylor was a great professor. Always explained tough material in class. Beware he uses a flipped classroom method so listening to lectures outside of class is a must but this is helpful because he goes over hard to understand material in class. This helped me a lot.
Dr. Taylor was a great professor. If you have the will to succeed, he will help. He teaches with a flipped classroom, but I believe it was beneficial due to the complexity of the topics.
His way of teaching was new to me, we listened to the lectures out of class and then reviewed and did practice problems in class. I think that it was a good way to learn but it was extra work outside of class. He is funny and very educated about the topic. This is a challenging class in general.
Great professor. I hated the teaching style. It was audiofiles outside of class, and we did problems in class.I felt like I was teaching myself most of the time, and he taught some big specific questions in class, which we were barely tested on. His exams are difficult. I never knew quite what to know, especially since there was so much information
If you are a procrastinator, make sure you listen to audio files along with the topics. Tests are tough, but Taylor does an excellent job understanding this is a hard topic; will give extra credit and help you as much as he can. He is also hilarious, so even though the topic is boring, he'll make you glad you went.
Professor Taylor is a really nice guy who cares a lot about student success. This class is really tough, and demands hours of studying per topic. Professor Taylor does a really nice job of presenting the information in a way that helps student grasp information the best. Definitely take him! A 4.0 grade is possible!
Lectures were interesting tho the flow always didn't seem logical. Posts notes. Willing to change deadlines and work with students. One research paper along with a presentation and community outreach aspect called Bringing Neurosciences to Life. Doesn't give tests but quizzes about every week or two. Also a bit of group workdiscussion.
Dr. Taylor's analogies and examples bring life to hard science. He lectures with a candor unmatched in his department, using real world experience to help students understand the practical application of the information. Take Dr. Taylor as much and as often as you can, you will not be disappointed.
Professor Taylor is by far the best professor I had at GV. Although I didn't do as well as I hoped to do, I know for a fact that if I had a different professor for 290, that I would not have learned as much as I did from Taylor. He makes his lectures funny and interesting with his examples. Exams are pretty tough but he helps you prepare for them
Dr. Taylor was an amazing professor and extremely caring about his students. He is there anytime you need help. Although his tests were tough and I didn't get the grade I wanted, I felt I learned so much in his class. It's a tough class and lots of work but take Taylor! He's absolutely hilarious and works so well with students.
Dr. Taylor is such a great professor. You can tell he is passivate about the class and really wants everyone to succeed. This class is very hard, but he tries his best to give real life examples fro you to grasp the concept. Even though this class is difficult, you should take him because he does make it easier.
Awesome professor. He is so funny and makes lectures fun. That being said, his exams are extremely hard. Studied really hard for all of the exams and still got B's. He gives extra credit opportunities though, and is really cares about all of his students and that shows in his lectures! Awesome person.
Dr Taylor is awesome! His lectures are always fun and he cracks some pretty hilarious jokes. All test questions were from things he lectured on in class and if you take good notes don't buy the book. I never opened the book and got an A. But his exams are tough, his question wording can be tricky so it is best to know the material super well.
Merrit was a hilarious, inspirational and very caring prof. This class is HARD though. If you want a good grade in this class you have to work for it. STUDY STUDY STUDY! Other than the material he provides videos of his lectures, lots of help and time to meet. He is really entertaining and fun too. I recommend this class with him very much!
Dr. Taylor is by far my favorite prof. His lectures were entertaining and he is just hilarious. He really cares about your success in his class so if you're willing to put the effort in, he's willing to work with you. His videos and powerpoints are very helpful. Be ready to take notes in class. It's a nice, relaxed, fun classroom atmosphere!!
Prof. Taylor is SUCH a nice guy! It is evident that he genuinely cares about the success and well-being of his students. This class was challenging for me, but very interesting and doable! Grades are based almost entirely on homework assignments, participation, and two presentations. Further, Prof. Taylor was a very fair grader! Highly recommend!
I retook this lab with Taylor and he made it so much easier than my previous lab professor. He tells you exactly what you need to know for quizzes and for lab reports. He is really nice and willing to help. Lab reports are time consuming but he tries to make them as easy as possible. Makes it very possible to get an A if you put the work in.
Professor Taylor is so goofy and makes BMS lab fun! The lab reports require a lot of work outside of the classroom but go to his office if you need help. Study for the quizzes and look at the documents he post on blackboard! If you put in the effort youll get an A.
Awesome professor, he allows you to ask questions before quizzes and gives exceptional explanations. One of the best professors I've ever had!
Taylor is awesome very nice and funny guy and always accessible really enjoyed him. Quizzes are tough so study hard.
Taylor is by far one of the best teachers Ive encountered since being at GVSU. He really cares that you learn the material and is always willing to go over anything that doesnt make sense. Quizzes are kinda hard just study and know that hes always there to help if you ever have questions.
The class is very time consuming but he's such a great professor that makes getting an A possible with effort. He really cares about student's success. If you need extra help, just ask. He goes above and beyond to help you understand the material and walk you through the lab reports. I honestly appreciate him very much.
Professor Taylor is one of the best professor I had at Grand Valley. He wants all his students to succeed. He goes above and beyond elaborating every detail of the class. He also discusses on how to make the syllabus fit his students better. He understands how stressful a capstone class can be, and he is always there to help.
The class mostly consisted of just lectures with no homework, but that doesn't mean that it was easy. It was very tough but Professor Taylor made the class very interesting and he was always available for questions. I would recommend him to other students and I would take him again! I miss his teaching!
I had this professor for lab. He was always very fair, nice, and helpful. He is a pretty easy grader. I suggest studying for the lab quizzes. I think the department writes them but if we didn't learn some of the material he will most likely throw it out because he didn't think it was fair to grade us on something we didn't really cover.
Very good professor overall, possibly one of the best in the entire BMS department. Loved his class. Actually tries to explain things in a way that is memorable and easy to understand.
Very kind, caring, and personable as a professor. He includes lots of quirky jokes throughout lecture and is never afraid to rexplain a topic. His lectures can sort of be all over the place however and slightly disorganized, so they require close listening!
