Really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. Never wastes time in class and explains things thoroughly. Super funny! Explains things well in class so that you barely need to study for exams/do reading *worth noting that the second midterm & final are considerably harder than the first midterm (may need to study/read a bit for them
very helpful instructor and an easy grader! highly recommend his lecture, especially for students with English as their second language.
Loved him. Literally gives you free marks and wants everyone to succeed. DO NOT need the book. Amazing notes and explanations. ATTEND CLASS! If you don't attend, you only have yourself to blame for a bad mark. The only thing is, if you're going to attend, don't ruin it for everyone else by talking. He really hates whispering during class.
Great guy, easy class. He sets office hours for basically an entire day during midterms and finals, so he can help you. Don't email, just go and see him in person. Best explanations and makes sure you understand what he is saying by repeating everything like 10 times (literally)- so sometimes his class gets boring..
Makes concepts clear, exams are straight forward and very similar to practice. Easy course, he posts lecture notes online. Always helpful during office hours and is willing to stay in his office for the whole day during exam season.
He is so awesome!!! A nice and approachable professor. Don't email him and just go to his office. The notes are the best part and you don't need the text book(if you go to the lecture every time.)
Probably one of the best profs I've had so far. Very caring! An A is very attainable, just go to class and make sure to pay attention to his explanations. He makes things very easy to understand. Make sure to attend review sessions as he always goes through the toughest questions on the exam. Do the aplia assignment + practice exams and ure golden.
Sharaf is actually such a logical person and a good man. Definitely take his class.
The best prof so far at UoA. He cares about his students success.
Mesbah isn't even my prof but sometimes i go to his lectures he's a real groovy dude
A very good prof, but you must attend all lectures to receive a good grade
I love this guy. He is hilarious and genuinely cares about his students. I found the tests easier than expected and tended to do well on them. Overall, I would definitely recommend him. One of the best econ profs in the department! You won't be disappointed by Sharaf!
Genuinely good guy. Cares about his students success and is super clear in his lectures. Take his class, go to his lectures and you'll be set for success.
AMAZING! Really cares about his students. He will make it really easy to get a good grade and explains stuff really easily.
I love him even i have a girlfriend now. He is such a amazing professor in the Econ lecture and all his students love him. He is really caring everyone's mark and hope everyone can get A+ in his class
Great prof with very organized notes. If you keep up in class and study you'll do really well. gives lots of office hours (especially around exam times). His tests are fair and the online assignments are very similar to his notes! Uploads everything online so that you'll be ok even if you miss a class.
Mesbah was an incredible professor. Econ can understandably be a dry subject, but I didn't find myself to be bored in any of his lectures. He is incredibly caring and lenient. He allows you to take home midterms and even the final exam. Most of the questions on the midterms and final are from the Aplia practice questions, so do them all (lots)!
Great prof
Loved him! His lectures were organized and he was very engaging !! He was funny and made lectures enjoyable ! Highly recommend ! if you are willing to do practice on the side it is a easy a
He's the best professor ever. Instead of just deliver a class, he actually cares about his students. He takes great length in making sure that you understand the concept he is talking about.
Mesbah Sharaf was one of the best professors ill probably ever have, the lectures are technically not mandatory but he really explains the topics well in the lectures and I got 67% on the first midterm without going to class and 90% on the second midterm going to every class so... go to class. Would highly recommend this professor!
great prof, has an accent but very clear. somewhat hilarious. Easy A if you do your homework and study etc. Without studying you'll do okay still.
Amazing prof- one of the best I've ever had. He really loves what he teaches and does a great job making the class fun. The notes are good, and are pretty close to whats on the exams. If you do the homework and show up to class, he makes it easy for you to do well. Would take his class again without any doubt, he's really an amazing prof!
He's a great prof. He is enthusiastic and super helpful. His tests are straightforward and he is VERY clear about what he is going to test.
good prof, explains things well, slight accent but easy to understand.
Great at giving thorough explanations of material and clearly cares about his students and wants them to learn. I find his teaching style easy to follow and effective. Take if you get the chance!!!
One of the most caring profs at the U of A and easily a favorite. Notes are clear, assignments and tests are straightforward and sets up tons of office hours before exams if you have questions.
LOVE HIM SO MUCHHHHH! He is a really patient and nice teacher! Fully recommend!!
His eyebrows are sexy but his notes are not. His explanations can be unclear at times but he emphasizes on the topics you need to know. His exams are fair.
Great prof, he really tries his best every single class to make sure everyone understands the concepts. Weekly-ish Aplia assignments were annoying but not bad. I got around a 98 on Aplia with decent effort put in. MT was not too bad, got 85 but could have studied harder. Final was BRUTAL in my opinion but that could've just been me.
Great for most students because he really wants you to succeed, and is very generous with grades (as long as you write something you'll get part marks). Lectures seem really dumbed down, he uses repetition as a teaching tactic which is redundant. Don't need to attend class, he writes down everything he says and posts it. Great prof overall.
Mesbah is great, he cares a lot and makes sure that you understand before he moves on. The only thing is, this makes him quite repetitive which can give the risk of zoning out. The aplia quizzes help you keep up though
Probably the greatest first year prof I had. Extremely passionate and hilarious, takes the simple content in this class and makes it even simpler.
I absolutely adore Mesbah. He is so compassionate and caring about his students. Super willing to answer your questions outside of class. He strives to help his students as much as possible. Lectures are not the most enjoyable but they are fine. Only graded on midterm, aplia, and final which can hurt. Overall, I would definitely take him again.
Mesbah is a great econ prof. He cares about his students, and doesn't mind repeating concepts if his students aren't understanding them. He's very fair on his exams- if he sees that a lot of people arent finishing on time, he'll give an extension. If he thinks a question on the exam wasn't fair, he'll give the class one bonus mark. 100% recommend.
Very detailed Prof, outlines exactly what will be on his exams and covers all the material extensively in class. Posts all of his notes on eclass, however they can be messy and hard to understand if you don't go to the lectures. Gives small assignments on every chapter that are good for practise and easy marks. Detailed formula sheets for exams.
He repeats the important things you need to know a lot. His lectures are very engaging. Posts his notes on eclass. Overall he's a very good prof that is well suited for us stress induced uni kids. He does get annoyed when the class doesn't quiet down when he needs to start the lecture, but that seems pretty understandable.
Mesbah is a great prof; extremely caring and good at what he teaches. Econ is not a super difficult course by any means, but if you're having trouble, Mesbah is great at accommodating. Posts really good midterm/final review (strongly recommend going over those). I tripped a little on the midterm because of not seeking help, but it is available.
He's one of my best profs in my first term of uni. A lot of courses have had me intimidated and I did not do as well on the midterm as I would have liked but his practice exam and lectures made requirements clear. He makes lectures interesting and his courses makes me feel like I learning and not memorizing.
Amazing Economics professor. He clearly explains the course and gives relatable examples. I have never taken economics before and have been doing well in his class. If you pay attention in his lectures, it'll do you a world of good.
An amazing prof! Writes out his notes during lecture and posts them to eclass, so if you skip once in a while you'll be fine. Really does his best during lectures to reiterate the important concepts that will appear on exams, and cares about his students more than any prof I've ever had. Definitely take him if you get the chance!
Honestly convinced me to major in Econ, has a solid understanding of his course material and isn't afraid to show it by giving students extra tutoring time outside class. Spends all his free time up until the midterm and final answering questions and going over practice questions during his office hours. Overall I would take this class again
Such a caring and sweet man! His exams aren't difficult and he repeats things so if you go to class they're sure to stick. Very easy and straightforward class.
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!!! He is the kindest prof ever and genuinely cares about his students. If you attend the lectures and follow through what he is teaching, you will be fine! He does a really good job at explaining the material and overall preparing you for exams. Definately take his class!!! you will not regret it.
Mesbah is the best, and so funny! He's very knowledgable and explains concepts in great detail. Lectures were always engaging, and concepts were explained clearly. Slightly repetitive, but this is because he genuinely wants his students to understand and do well. Posts great practice midterms/finals, which I strongly recommend doing to succeed.
Decent for 102, in my opinion was much better for 101. Kinda gets boring Beware the final, very difficult! especially compared to midterms.
2 midterms and a final. He posts notes online, but in class, he explains in more in-depth and also repeats the same concepts multiple times; it's a bit excessive, but it ensures you'll know the material. Questions on tests are pretty standard, with a few tricky ones and he puts practice tests online.
Very good and kind professor, always be willing to help. Always use easy words to explain and give many examples.
Really encourages you to visit him during office hours and simplifies lectures by repeating things. I paid for the etext with aplia and didnt even use the textbook. He posts practice tests from old exams well before your own and gives practice questions off aplia too. He uses some of these questions on exams. Final was tough but he sets you up well
He does an amazing job of making sure the class understands the material. Attendance isn't mandatory because he posts all his notes online, but showing up is a real advantage. You might get annoyed when he says the definition of GDP 18 times in one class, but I can guarantee you won't ever forget that definition.
Awesome prof! Genuinely cares about his students, would hold many office hours before tests for extra help. All exams were lecture based, didn't even open my textbook. He explains everything very clearly, made the class easy.
He is an amazing Guy, took two econ courses with him and got A+ in both. Just attend the class to listen to what he says as he posts all the notes on eclass. Attendance is required to understand the notes. Easy A class if you do that
Mesbah's lectures are informative and uninteresting. He spends a significant amount of time explaining the "important topics", so you never have to be worried about confusion. Sadly, his exams are only about 70% lecture topics and 30% unexplained linear algebra. Do the practice exams, or this course will be brutal.
Broke things down to their absolute simplest forms, making it super easy to introduce economics to people of all backgrounds in the subject. A real charismatic guy too, did a good job keeping you interested in his lectures. Had very good notes and didn't focus on the textbook at all.
One word : AMAZING
Best economics professor in the UofA, if you want to learn and pass the course without stressing too much you should definitely consider Mesbah Sharaf.
Mesbah really cares about his students and emphasizes that he doesn't want you to stress about the class. He is a little quirky, but goes over the important concepts in detail and will curve the distribution up if everyone does poorly on exams. He also spent three lectures going over old finals with us, and provides a formula sheet for exams.
Mesbah is a great 101 prof, but fair warning, this does not translate into a great 102 prof! It is naturally a harder course, but the confusing lectures and unorganized content made it really hard to follow. Midterm was absolutely brutal, and he wasn't very helpful explaining where people went wrong. Still, a great guy who cares about students.
Don't get me wrong, he definitely cares about his students. But his notes are awful. He repeats himself a lot which is good because it helps you understand, but if you miss a class and try to look at his notes it will leave you very confused. The midterm was very difficult as well but he gave a lot of extra marks to compensate for it.
Go to the lectures and don't text and you will be fine. He explains the material to death so if you don't understand it, it's you, not him. He is super easy to reach outside of class so if you don't understand something, email him or go to his office hours. Really good prof.
Sharaf is actually the best professor in economic department.
Just enrol in his class right now! Had him from Econ 101 and 102 and he's an amazing lecturer. Method of teaching is great. First explains a concept, then he writes it down, then he gives an example, then he repeats it so you don''t forget. Be careful though; seems easy in class, but tests are REALLY hard. Definitely read the textbook/attend class
Mesbahs lectures were always well organized and hed always give his utmost effort. He really simplifies the material so that everyone can understand the concepts. I also very much appreciated that he posted his notes! He does expect you to know the material well his exams range in difficulty, but are very similiar to his old practice exams.
Can definitely tell that he really knows the material and really cares about students. Although not as organized as I'd like, lectures were very good and he gave a ton of examples and multiple classes before exams dedicated to review. Exams are tough, so don't skip those reviews.
Enough said. Mesbah is the GOAT. Really cares about his students and passionate about what he teaches. Highly Recommend
Mesbah's lectures are really informative and really boring. I found it really useful to attend them, however, every lecture I needed to resist dozing off. It is very important to go over his practice exams because about 40% of the exam material is very difficult to answer just using lecture note retention. Get ready to apply your knowledge!
He is the best prof I have met in my whole first year! He is always kind and patient to listen to all your questions and answer them in a clear way. He always cares everyone.
Pretty solid prof. He has a strange charm. His lectures were pretty easy to follow. He gave a lot of old midterms to practice with. Just go to class and make sure you know your stuff (unlike me) and he makes for a good class.
He is the undisputed God king of economics!!! The man's lectures and notes speak for themselves. Just know that "your cooperation is greatly appreciated!"
I've never been so infuriated by a professor or their teaching style. The first half of most lectures were spent reviewing old material which could easily be understood from the textbook. The rate he went though concepts was painfully slow. Despite all off the practice exams, the midterm was confusingly worded, with several mistakes. Avoid if able.
At first, I thought this class was an easy A, but after the first midterm things definitely got more difficult. However, Dr. Sharaf is very accessible outside of class and has very comprehensive lectures. He encourages students not to take notes in class, but I personally was able to focus better when I copied down the information from the slides
HEY HEY HEY, dude will bump up the average as MUCH as he possibly can. But his midterms aren't as easy as you think they will be. If you don't study the types of questions on his older midterm exams, you won't do well. He does cover things painfully slow but I figure it's still better than learning it myself. Solid guy.
Funny guy. Actually cares about his students and makes sure there are chances to meet with him outside of class. Gives you lots of notes from his lecture and the textbook. Lots of practice questions from his old tests and aplia. Textbook is mandatory because it has the online homework code
solid dude! Really wants all of his students to succeed
A LEGEND. his lectures r clear, he goes the perfect speed. He gave bonus marks to everyone on midterm 2 just so ppl didn't get discouraged. He holds TONS of office hours. Warning: he is really direct and uptight, but he really is such a selfless guy. It's never about him -- he cares about EVERY SINGLE student - wish all profs were like him
Very good teacher!!! The best I ever seen
He is amazing. He drills concepts into your brain so that you won't forget them. He always stays after class to answer questions and is very nice. He really cares about his students and will do whatever he can to help. His notes are great, but I would still go to lectures, because you will understand concepts without struggling that way.
Well respected and funny. He has amazing lectures and CARES about students. He constantly repeats and emphasizes on important topics although it's our responsibility to pay attention in each lecture. He covers whatever you need to know for exam in class, so there's no need to read it from textbook. I'd definitely pick more courses with him.
Mesbah is a fantastic professor, a beautiful man, and (I imagine) a very generous lover.
Great professor. 2nd class with him as I took 101 with him. Energetic in lectures, really cares about students succeeding. He marked the assignments very easily for this class. Midterm was not difficult, final a little more challenging. He teaches at a slow-ish pace, but that is a lot better than the alternative. Love class with this guy.
Nice, sweet person, teaches pretty good too. I can tell that he cares about his students and he tries to make the class enjoyable.
Energetic and passionate
Professors lectures literally put me to sleep, which has never happened. Seems to care, but something about his lectures are especially boring. Emphasizes that he doesn't want people taking notes, but this just leads to more distractions. Final exam was more difficult than anticipated, despite a lot of studying.
He's so kind and caring. Avg GPA (in terms of class) has been highest for his section out of all my first year courses (excluding English). Pretty sure he pushes the scale in favour of students as much as possible. Do him a favour and don't talk while he lectures b/c it stresses him out and you can totally tell. Be kind to this REALLY nice prof.
Great Prof, really cares about his students and his lectures were great. Second midterm was hard and average was low but Prof. Sharaf curved it (which saved my grade)
He is amazing! No textbook needed, dont need to go to lectures (but he is very entertaining), and posts all of his lecture notes online. Also has previous exams posted online which makes it easier to study, and he will not test on anything outside of his lecture notes. Very caring, passionate, wants his students to succeed.
His lectures are very important to go to since I barely used the textbook in this class, so as long as you pay attention and go you should do fine. the tests were farely easy, and he gives you past midterms and finals that I would 100% know how to do since most of the questions come from those.
Best prof ever!!! I really enjoyed this class despite I barely went to the lecture. He posts everything on eclass so you will be fine if u miss one or two classes. Just do all the pervious midterms or finals before the actual one(yes he posts all pervious exams). He will give free bonus to the whole class if the average is low.
AMAZING LECTURES!!!! I cannot even remember I have a cellphone during his classes. Prof Sharaf is caring and willing to help every student.
Such a great prof. Wish I had him as my 102 teacher
This prof is great at making lectures fun, and his notes are very good. Although asking him for help can be painful because he does not have patience of any kind. I had a tough time keeping up with it all. The exams were hard for me although the quizzes were easy.
This man is adorable, I miss him so much...
I love this guy, cause he always said "AAAAA" during the lecture, and I consider he was blessing for our exams.
He is great. Posts all notes and tons of practice exams. Super easy with him. He has a little bit of an accent but is easily understood
highly recommended!!!
Awesome. Will repeat concepts until you can't forget them. His notes are fantastic and is all that he tests from. His exams are similar to his previous ones, and he always gives bonus marks. 100% would recommend.
He's a decent prof but has many annoying quirks. He takes a lot of time to shush people in a mostly quiet lec and his exams are not at all the format he teaches in so make sure to really go over past midterms cause you'll probably be lost otherwise. Lecs are pretty boring. I got an A- in 101 w Lee but im on track to get a C+ with mesbah
He does a very good job explaining things in class. However, when it comes test time I found that his tests had a lot of difficult questions that are very difficult to figure out unless you see him during his office hours. Answers for practice tests have no explanation as to why that is the answer which tends to be very frustrating.
If you want to pass, you better do the practice exams. However, his notes and practice exams fails to prepare you for the actual tests, as a lot of questions on the exams are tested on material that isn't covered in nearly enough detail in class. Consequently, some questions feel unfair, as you can't solve them even if you did study off the notes.
Loved him, one of those profs that really really wants you to succeed. Bumps all the midterms so the average is 80%. Lecture notes are really messy but he does post them online, easier to follow if you write them yourself. Reading the textbook helps alot. The practice midterms are significantly easier than the real midterms
He's not a bad prof but his lectures are mind-numbingly boring. He constantly had to wave his hand in front of people to get their attention because of how bored they were. Midterms were reasonable (and he gave bonus marks to bump up the average!) but his final was extremely difficult. Make sure to do his practice midterms or you will NOT do well.
Took econ 101 with him 2 years ago, and just came back to write that he was definitely the best prof I have had in university. He genuinely cares for students and his exams were super fair, almost identical to practice exams.
One of the best profs I had. Extremely nice guy and genuinely wants his students to succeed to the point where he is shifting the curve over 10% to benefit everyone's GPA. His personality is out there and he has a few phrases that can drive you insane after listening to them for a semester.
Mesbah was a really good prof in the beginning. He's funny, kind, caring and understanding His lectures are very heavy but make sense and he encourages anyone to ask questions if they don't understand. However his APLIA assignments are pretty hard and time-consuming and he did us so dirty on the final as it was extremely hard and confusing, sooooo
It was really difficult when a professor doesn't explain where you plug your numbers from graphs into an equation, and then give you the equations on the exams. The tests were hard, I spent an entire week during finals sacrificing my other studying trying to pass, read the entire textbook and did all the practice exams and still failed.
Mesbah is a mediocre prof. He struggles to keep the class's attention due to the exceptionally slow lectures in which he repeats the same topic over and over again. Exams are exceptionally easy though, and the textbook is unnecessary which is a plus. He also doesn't give much real-world context or answer questions well.
Great guy. This class had written exams but he gave good practice. Exam prep hierarchy Practise test/problem, Assignments, then lecture notes. Ask for practice in advance so you know what an exam is like, have to draw out everything to answer Qs. This is a problem-solving class, you can't just memorize facts like psych so takes some time to study.
One of the most caring profs on campus; took 101, 102 and 282 with him. Very well paced lectures, not sure why some students think he is slow. Sympathizes with GPAs, encourages learning and understanding rather than trying to beat down students with info. His classes fill up quickly so if you get the chance, definitely take. Real gem
BEST TEACHER EVER. Mesbah is genuinely the most caring prof i've ever met. He will ALWAYS put his students at an advantage by bumping up your assignment grade or your midterm/final exam marks. He also really wants his students to understand the concepts learned in class, often by applying it to real life scenarios. I highly recommend this class!!!!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO EVERYBODY. HE'S SUCH A FUNNY GUY. HE ALSO MADE EVERYTHING SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND. THE MIDTERMS WERE FAIRLY EASY. OVERALL JUST AMAZING!!!!!
AN INCREDIBLE MAN! He gives you as much information as possible for exams and is super clear. Very caring and often does review lectures before exams to go over difficult questions. He repeats a lot of what he says but it just makes the concepts easier to understand. The best prof I've had all semester.
Explains all the concepts really well and makes sure you understand them but the exam questions were personally really difficult and you really have to practice them. I certainly knew the course content well but those exams questions were tricky. :(
Not mandatory to attend Sharaf's lectures, as long as u read his notes. Very helpful in his office hour, pls attend those. Very easy exams and slow teaching.
Simply the best prof you could have ever met! Lectures were engaging and straightforward. He would drop the lowerest assignments and round up any assignment with over 95% to FULL MARK! He is so nice and caring towards his students that this term he decided not to cover the last chapter and use the time to guide us through previous final questions!
He's one of the nicest profs I've ever had. He generally tries to boost his students' marks if he can (He says at the beginning that his goal isn't for people to fail). People say that he teaches slow, but we finished the course material early so I don't see any issues. Definitely recommend him as an econ prof.
The worst prof I had in my university! It is okay to choose him, if you are able to self study. DON'T go to lecture, because the only thing you hear is "look look look", "A A A", "Pleeeeeeeease". VERY BAD prof who has VERY LOW QUALITY lecture.
Professor Sharaf is a very passionate individual, and one that genuinely cares for his students. Simply put, he's the best- pleaaaaase take a course with him, you won't regret it. Look look look at his other reviews, they agree with me.
if you have the chance to take him as a prof I would strongly recommend it he's a g very obvious he cares about his students and wants them to pass unlike most profs
Mesbah is the BEST professor I have EVER HAD!!!! He is the sweetest man and explain concepts in a way that ANYONE could understand. Amidst the COVID-19 crisis he has made everyone feel so comfortable and done his best to make the transition as smooth as possible. He made me LOVE economics. I really hope I can take another class with him! Best prof.
Mesbah is the BEST prof ever. Take his class if you can. He loves and cares about students so much. His lectures are interesting & easy to follow. Always curves up even when class average is high. He posts practice exams online & then reuses exact same questions from there, same exact answers and numbers too. Great guy and his accent is hilarious.
He genuinely enjoys teaching and wants to help you do the best. Always ready to help. I had him for econ 101, 102 and 281. Best prof I've had at the U of A.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He explains every concept clearly and uses real world examples for you to relate to. His notes/practice exams are key for the midterm and final. He cares about his students and wants them to do well.
Was by far my favourite professor I've had so far. He goes into extreme detail when explaining each concept and example so the ideas are easily grasped plus he is super considerate when it comes to extending due dates. Plenty of previous exams to study for the midterm and final that is just about exactly like the real thing.
Mesbah is so amazing! He's like another father figure academically. He cares so much about the students like sooo much and he cares dearly about the students GPA, he doesn't want to hurt anyones GPA. He will male sure you get the best grade possible. His midterm exam and final were 85% similar to the practise he gives you so make sure to do that!
Such a great economics professor. Really cares about his students and how they perform in his class. His office hours are great for clarification. When we moved online for classes he uploaded videos that exactly followed his lectures notes. His lectures are a must attend or you wont understand the material properly. Great professor for sure.
Genuinely good person and professor. Cares about what he teaches and his students. 100% recommend taking him if you get a chance. Also super easy course (took ECON 101). Dr. Sheraf makes it even easier by giving free marks.
One of the best overall professors Ive had. You can tell Mesbah really cares about his students and enjoys his job. Hes very thorough in his explanations and gives real life examples which are really helpful when trying to understand the concepts. Spring course consisted of 1 midterm and 1 final, so workload was very manageable. Highly recommend.
I really really love Dr. Sharaf!!!! Definitely will take his any courses again. Although sometimes his accent is a lit bit difficult to understnad, but it doesnt influence. Really recommend his courses, any.
The best prof I've ever had!!!!!! Amazing lecture!! fair exams!!
During the pandemic he has given more than a handful of extensions to all the homework and quizzes. I'd especially like to note that he gave us a "week off" of school! He literally gave us a free week to catch up in his class and our other classes. He is the most caring and understanding professor I've ever had. Also he's very good at teaching.
One of the best Economics professor I've had in the UofA. He actually cares and encourages you to pay attention actively. As long as you read his notes, complete the assignments and exam practice papers it isn't hard to get an A. I have graduated but I still have his notes around, never had a professor that explains things so clearly to me.
It was a blessing to have professor Sharaf for Econ 101. He is an excellent teacher and an even better human being. Although I was online during this semester his lectures were excellent and I really felt as though he truly cared about the class. Super understanding and answers his emails faster than lightning. Take his class if you get the chance!
Very caring professor. Not here to hurt your GPA if anything gives you ample opportunity to improve it. Interesting lectures that resemble exactly what is on the exams.
Truly an amazing professor. He is extremely caring and considerate towards his students and makes it clear that he really does want everyone to do well. He is also very lenient it seems with assignments, which is very nice. I wouldn't say his exams are easy, you definitely have to study, but he gives out a bunch of practice exams to prepare you!
Great econ prof. We had it online, and he gave many, many deadline extensions along with lots of opportunities to boost our grades. Gives lots of practice material, and the tests have no surprises and are very fair. Sometimes can overexplain simple things, but with that never left me questioning anything.
Dr. Sharaf is really nice, he cares students' GPA
What an amazing prof! At first, I thought people loved him because he gave easy exams but that is not the case. His exams are really fair and you will only do good if you study and do the practice exams. What I liked about him was that he wasn't out to get us- he really wanted the best for us even if that means giving a 5% midterm booster.
A gem for econ 101, however since online classes started I regret taking him for econ281, does not reply to emails, practice questions nothing like his exams, definitely would avoid
Sharaf is a great prof and he truly cares about his students, he wants us all to do well. Gave tons of extensions, grade boosting quizzes and opportunities to succeed. Genuinely just a sweet, caring dude that made econ really enjoyable. 100% take his class if you have the opportunity! Exams were fair and you'll do well if you know the material.
He is really caring and is a nice guy, extremely glad I took his course. You do not need a textbook, I found his lectures enjoyable and loved his voice honestly. The midterm and final were worth about 75% of the course but the practice tests were basically the same as the tests. Nice that you didn't have to pay for the online section.
Dr. Sharaf is a great choice for a first year professor. The workload is reasonable, the exams are reasonable if you prepare well, and he is very caring/wants his students to succeed (he extended many deadlines and gave extra credit). The textbook is not needed at all.
This is my 3rd class with Dr. Sharaf, and I always enjoy his classes. As long as you watch all the lectures and do the practice questions, you can do well. The textbook isn't mandatory, but is great for extra practice/clarity. His explanations are clear and the office hours are super helpful. He really cares about his students, would recommend!
Great Prof! Realizes online school is harder on students and accommodates. I would take a class with him again any day.
Objectively the easiest class I've taken so far. He started the year in his recorded introduction by saying "I hope this will be a grade booster" and came through on that promise. Offers 3% bonus guaranteed and will boost the entire curve to the maximum allowed by the university. His lectures are great and detailed, a bit slow but 2x speed helps.
Dr. Sharaf is an amazing professor and human being. Really cares for his students and wants to see everyone succeed. eclass notes and lecture videos very well organized. Quick response to all emails. Put in the time and you will get A in any of his classes
he is super nice and fun to listen too. His course is easy
This man is so lovely. He starts off every lecture with "hey guys" and if you have a heart, that introduction will warm it every class. His explanations are extremely thorough and he shared 3 midterm and 3 final practice exams, so you REALLY know what to expect.
Truly one of the most caring profs. Has MANY office hours and at multiple hours of the day to accommodate to everyone. Releases many practice midterms and finals so there is no confusion for what is to come. Econ to me is very dry, but he made the course enjoyable and a true GPA booster. Would definitely take it again!
I don't know who are those that are saying his exams were easy in my experience they were way harder than quizzes, for final I put in so much effort and I felt like i don't know anything in the exam. Now I am not a below avg. student I took this class as an option to my CS major.
The toughest final I done in my 2 years of University so far. He does deliver good lectures, but what he put in the final is on another planet compared to his lecture.
He is a relly nice prof.
I have never had a prof so passionate and willing to help. Mesbah was the only online professor I had in my first year who seemed to genuinely care about how we did even though he didn't have the chance to meet us face to face.
The easiest class I've ever taken, thanks to this prof! He is very chill and does everything in his power to make everyone successful. For exams, if you've done the given practice exams, you will be fine since some exam questions are identical to practice questions. Great GPA booster! If you need an easy going, non-demanding class, this is the one.
Mesbah was a great instructor for Econ 101. The material he taught was relatively easy and could be understood with minimal studying. The exam and midterm were close to the practice tests he gave out, and most of his emphasized comments in lecture were on the test. His English can be a little hard to understand at times.
He is an amazing prof, highly recommend him. His lectures are very detailed as he explains concepts multiple times and tries to help us understand the intuition behind the examples. Make sure to review the lecture content because future classes will be based on a well understanding of previous lectures. Overall one of the best profs I have ever had
My favorite Econ Prof. He will really try his best to explain each and every concept. He goes over each concept again and again because 399 is a very math and stat heavy course. A very difficult final but easy assignments if you dont do them in the last hours. Average grade was a 3.0, highly recommended!
Attendance is not mandatory, but you would be missing out on a fun time and saving yourself time, since he explains things so clearly and entertaining, that you would be way better off always coming to lectures. Exams are just like the practice tests and don't miss his lecture the day before the test, where he prepares you for the hardest questions
my angel <3
Ez course, but never never never ever response your email.
Class is not engaging
I really like how he teaches, lectures are really easy to follow; his notes are very straight-forward. Professor Sharaf always responded to my emails in a timely manner. And he really cares about his students (he offered a booster quiz after our midterm results came out to help our marks go up!!).
Mesbah is a great teacher, he explains things very clearly and very detailed. I had an issue with booking my midterm and he helped me through the whole thing and answered my emails quickly and on the weekend. He provides prerecorded lectures which is very helpful for days you can't make it to class. I wish there were more instructors like him.
Best econ prof at U of A
Sharaf is the most boring professor of all time. If you go to his lectures you will fall asleep because he repeats himself and wastes time. This class is very easy with little work but just so incredibly boring. Kinda trash.
Lots of the grade is from the midterm and final but the questions are very fair and some are straight from the practice. Lectures are slow but he explains concepts well. Cares about his students grades and gives extra credit to help boost grades if the whole class struggles on a test.
Exams are similar to practice, although he is hard to contact outside of class, other than during office hours .
Dr. Sharaf is not accessible by email at all. He never responded to any of the emails I sent. He talks extremely slow in class to the point where it is painful to listen. His exams are way harder than you would anticipate based on the simplicity of the content. All he teaches with are his old hand written notes. I did not enjoy this class at all.
After hearing all the buzz about this particular professor, I have to say that he did not live up to the hype. Lectures are repetitive to the point of redundancy, there is no feedback at all on assessments, and he doesn't release marks for graded assignments. Other than that, you can tell he cares about his students doing well :
The quiz and midterm were so easy. But the final exam was so haaaaaaaard. It was way beyond the practice and previous exams in terms of difficulty. Also it was worth 55% of total class. But he was a good guy, his explanation in lecture was very concise and good.
He was hard to understand. The final was worth 55%.
Fantastic professor whos class is very easy if you put a respectable amount of work in. Unfortunately youd be better off trying to contact aliens than an email reply from him so be prepared for that
Took a second econ class with Dr. Sharaf- Econ 102 and it was not my class but Dr. Sharaf said that he wasn't there to hurt our GPAs in the first week and he stood by that after finals. bumped my letter grade up big time. Big props to him for that. Won't ever take another econ class in my life again but I was lucky to have him as my last econ prof
Best prof for economics! Dr. Sharaf is very kind and helpful. He is always willing to help students get highest mark possible. Very kind in boosting grades
Dr. Sharaf is hands down the best econ prof at uofa. He'll do whatever he can for your grade to be the best it can possibly be and he's extremely caring. He's really there to help you out. Lectures are great - I really liked his teaching style and he also posted his notes, recordings and even extra slides online. Take econ with him!!
Mesbah is honestly one of the best profs Ive had. You can tell that he really cares about his students and genuinely wants everyone in the class to succeed. He gave us so many opportunities to increase our mark. He gives great practice questions aswell, put in a little effort and you will get a huge reward with this guy as your prof.
I love him so much, hes so cute in a fatherly way. He really cared about students success and gave us all the resources he could to help. Understands school costly so he never made us pay for a txtbook or online course. Explained the concepts super well, you just need to put in the effort to understand how to apply the concepts to application Qs.
This prof is one of the most lovely, caring and sweetest prof of all time. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his job and his students and his goal is to help our GPA or at least not hurt it. He makes everything so simple and easy to understand and I love his teaching style of writing notes along with his students during lectures.
Professor Sharaf cares about his students and told us he didn't want this class to bring down our GPA. The lectures were pre-recorded and his explanations were good. I struggled most with applying the concepts to test questions, but there were lots of practice tests available.
An angel. The only prof at ualberta who actually cares about his students imo. Waters down every concept to make it as easy as possible and repeats himself to make sure you got it. Gave mark boosters as well. He is the best and I love this man. With that being said, you do need to pay attention and revise/study for this class to do well in exams <3
M. Sharaf is one of my favorite profs from my first year. He clearly cares about his students, and always explains in different ways and with examples so the class understands. Just by coming to class and with a few hours of review, I got an A. His exams/quizzes are exactly like practice questions and there were also bonus quizzes. Def recommend!
I absolutely loved this professor. He was clearly passionate about what he was teaching and I felt like he really cared about the students. His lectures were clear and concise, and I never found his accent hard to understand. Just come to class, listen, and do the practice and you will excel.
Mesbah is a great guy, just make sure you can do every question on all the practice midterms/finals he posts and you'll be fine, don't study anything else :). If you do need help, there's tutor office hours as well as his own, and he is always overjoyed when you show up. I took the class for an arts option to my science degree and it was awesome.
Very thorough lectures and did not make us buy a textbook like other econ profs.
This was the bost boring class I have ever had, I saw 2 guys snoring during his lectures. Dry lectures , a lot of info. Do not take this class if you do not like math. Do not recommend.
Great professor overall. Everything was very easy to understand in his class. Would definitely recommend.
Overall a great prof. The midterm and final were weighted heavily, but the class was relatively easy and straightforward.
One of UofA's best profs, though you'll want to talk to him in person bc he doesn't respond to emails. His awesome tutors are almost always available and nobody seems to take advantage of that. Take careful notes, do the practice tests, and go to the tutors for practice q's you can't figure out. u'll pass with a great GPA booster.
Honestly a good prof. He used lots of examples to explain the terms he used and made extra videos to walk through practice midterms and finals so you actually understand them. Marks are very test heavy and the best way to get a good grade is to study the material but focus lots on doing practice tests before your exams.
The midterm and final are 90% of your grade but the material is relatively easy. I found myself nodding off sometimes in his lectures but if you actively take notes you'll be fine. He uses lots of examples and he'll go over previous exams in class. It can be repetitive but that helped me remember. Very adorable in a fatherly sense.
Sharaf is really nice prof in ECON 101 and 102, just take his class for sure! Recommend!
Hes a great prof and passionate in what he teaches, however I found the midterm and final weirdly hard. The material is easy and I did all of the practice finals/midterms (which were from previous years) and nearly aced them all. The real final and midterm had some much harder/different questions than the previous/practice ones which threw me off.
Mesbah is an amazing prof. I didnt find Econ to be too hard so I didnt attend many of his lectures, but he makes resources accessible and honestly, you can do this course quite easily without ever going to a lecture - just watch his videos online. His tests were relatively easy although the wording was tricky on some questions.
The class was fine, and content was easy. But the 55% final was the stupidest exam I have ever written. And I to make it worse I have to look up at this guy the whole time. I don't know how this is allowed. Do not take his classes. Hes just not bright.
Professor Sharaf is an amazing professor. He's pretty much the best professor I've ever had in terms of caring for his students since he provides tons, sometimes too much, opportunities to boost your grades and he's also very informative during office hours. If you can, take him for an elective and you'll have a breeze.
Professor Sharaf was an amazing professor to have for an econ class, he explained every concept well and went over most things multiple times so students could properly understand the material. He does tons of practice questions that are exactly like the midterm and final so you're prepared and he genuinely wants his students to do well
the quizzes were literally questions from previous midterms and finals so those are free marks. midterm was tricky but very possible to do well on. i didnt attend a single lecture but the notes sufficed and i did not use textbook. by some miracle i got an a+ despite the low effort. notes also kinda bad but if u can figure it out then youll be fine
easiest course i have taken. as long as you read the notes he gives and do practice questions you will do well because the exams are the same as the practice finals he gives.
Best prof to take Econ with at the u of a! He genuinely wants you to do good and helps you get the highest grade possible in the course!
Mesbah Sharaf is the GOAT, look over the notes and do the practice questions/exams and you will do well!
Taken Winter 2022 - Midterm 1: 4/10 - Pretty chill midterm. Midterm 2: 4/10 - Pretty chill midterm. Final: 4/10 - Pretty chill final. Mesbah is a great person and lecturer! This class is very easy so you should have no issue getting a good grade!
Such a nice person!! Puts lots of effort into his teachings
This man could teach economics to a 3 year old
He let us understand Economics easily; even my brother in High school enjoyed his lecture beside me. He cares about students so much that he didn't want us to buy the textbook. I want to take Econ with him again.
He was absolutely delightful and very caring about students. He put in effort to make sure we understood the concept each class.
What Mesbah didn't do in teaching, he made up for in grade curves. I found the exam material and the class practice material did not align AT ALL. I would be 100 percent comprehensive when it came to the practice tests, but as soon as the midterm/final came around concepts appeared out of thin air that weren't discussed in class.
Absolutely amazing prof who cares deeply about his students. He made it difficult to perform poorly in the class. Lectures could become repetitive but did so to hammer home important concepts. Genuinely caring guy would highly recommend taking any econ class at the UofA with him, you'll love him.
HE IS A GEM GUYS!!! Best prof ever! He just wants everyone to understand the material and achieve good grade. As long as you practice and understand his lecture and the concepts, A+ was never that easy
Mesbah is a great prof. He is very kind and accessible, he does want his students to succeed -- that said, his exams are far too difficult. Miles harder than assignments and lecture examples. They are practically algebra exams. Withdrew from the class after getting railroaded by the midterm.
there cannot be one who takes a class with mesbah sharaf and does NOT give him a 5.0 on ratemyprof.
He spends at least three hours a week explaining what other professors can finish in 30 minutes. The most important thing is that most of the quiz and exam content will not appear in the lectures. The notes provided are completely unreadable.
Nicest prof I've had this year. My friends and I call him "the sweetheart". Hey cares so much about his students and does anything he can for you. He's very nice during his lectures, and he actually wants you to succeed. After the midterm gave an open book quiz to boost everyone's marks. Please take his class if you're able too.
Honestly, he's a great teacher, and he's very realistic. But he can be condescending and his tests are AWFUL! Genuinely the worst tests possible with the worst possibilities for answers. I would 10/10 not recommend him if you want a good grade; you could be doing amazing with your understanding but still not be able to solve his tests.
Mesbah is a gem. He cares about his students. The midterm average was 59 so he gave everybody an open book booster quiz. He also said he would try to bump up everyone's marks the best he could. He wants you to succeed.
Mesbah himself is a great prof with a knack for teaching. His lectures are engaging and he has a great way of explaining material in an easy to grasp manner by using plenty of real life analogies. My one gripe is definitely the sheer difficulty of his exams, in order to do well in this class you must understand every concept inside and out.
He's a nice guy, but he really doesn't prepare you well for his exams. He almost never goes through examples of questions and rather just gives you the info and expects you to be able to answer any question
I do not understand the hype around mesbah. He seems like a great person and very funny but his 281 class was horrible. He spends hours covering something that should take 30 minutes. His tests were ridiculously difficult. He gives you plenty of practice questions just to test you on something he mentioned briefly in his insanely long lectures.
I don't get the hype. Mesbah is nice and decent at explaining concepts, but his lectures are boring. His tests are also super hard. He does boost grades a lot since the class does poorly. However, if he has to boost grades constantly, he should reevaluate his tests and teaching style instead.
Mesbah has the best lectures and is the only professor I've ever had where you can feel that he genuinely cares for his student's success. His tests are very hard, but he gives a generous curve to everyone's grade at the end. Take his class !!
My experience with Teacher Sharaf was frustrating due to a disconnect between lectures and exams. Despite watching lectures 3-4 times to grasp concepts, I felt unprepared for the tests. The class average for midterms and finals was consistently below 60, leading to a heavy reliance on grade curving. Proceed with caution if considering this teacher.
Dr. Sharaf is great + caring. I can see why ppl hate 36% midterm + 49% final. But it's quite easy to succeed as long as you make use of the ~5 practice midterms and ~3 practice finals he gives, watch through the lectures (which are recorded). In total, he gave around +17% boost to our FINAL grades through bonuses/booster quizzes. Highly recommend!
Mesbah is an amazing prof! Replies to emails right away and his lectures are really in-depth to make sure you understand everything. As long as you review after class a little bit and do the practice stuff you'll be okay! Definitely take Econ 102 with Mesbah!
Wants you to succeed. Great teacher and has a generous curve.
One of the only teacher's I've ever had who actually wanted his students to learn and understand. His midterm was so hard but it was ok because he gives opportunities to boost ur grade and bumps up your grade at the end of the sem. This class was an easy A but I also actually understood much more than my other classes. Great passionate teacher!
Lectures have everything you need and are very well explained, recordings are always accessible. Quizzes can be difficult if you don't do any practice (getting an old textbook for practice is god bc some questions pop up in class). He gives lots of bonus points as well, grade cut offs are pretty chill as well
Had him for 101 back in fall 2019. One of the best professors I had. Anyone here complaining or giving bad reviews is most likely upset that they didn't get the grade they wanted. You can easily achieve an A in 101 if you put in like 60% effort. Easy course material, and Mesbah makes coming to class enjoyable.
BEST ECON PROF. Lectures are very fun and engaging, you can tell he loves econ and wants his students to do well. Exams are kinda tough but he gives everyone's grades a big boost at the end. I got 60-70 on both midterm and final but he still gave me an A-. Recommend over Gainer who makes u pay $80 for his own textbook and you still do badly.
281 was made extra difficult by his online class. Lecture was hard to hear, accent was bad, and the handwritten lecture notes is not making it any better. Now for the worst, he posts very long assignments which are not tracked on eclass! So for those of you who tracks assignments through dashboard, chances are you will miss one of those(5% each).
Professor Sharaf is ok lecturer, prepares you for tests however he's condescending and can be really rude. He will start yelling at a the class during lectures randomly, tells you to participate, then won't listen or yells at you for talking. He wastes SO much time to tell you how easy the class is and how his other students are smarter than you.
I wish I could take Professor Sharaf for all my classes. He's an absolute gem. He wants you to genuinely learn the material and his teaching style ensures you're successful. BIG FAN!!
Best prof ive ever had in my 5 years at the university of alberta. I wish I could take every class with him. Hes so caring, makes sure you understand the material, uses relavant examples, super easy to understand, caring, the list goes on. I highly recommend him!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. 100% recommend.
OMG, I did well before the midterm after which I did not study until the last day before the final lol. I did the practice final and I only got 60% of them correct, but I got an A+ in the end! Bruh, our professor really did want us to use this course as a GPA booster!!!! So happy!
Best prof at the UofA!! Topics were well explained in lectures, tons of practice exams were available that were extremely similar to tests. He is super acessible outside of class, genuinely cares for his students, and wants them to succeed.
Will make sure everyone understands the concept before moving on
While others opinion of him may be great, my experience with Dr. Sharaf was lacklustre. He constantly goes off topic and repeats the same thing multiple times. His constant reminders for people to stay focused come across as annoying and a tad demeaning. Overall, I am sure he means well, but I cannot get on board with his teaching style.
It's the first day of the smstr, he has videos to watch b4 attending the lectures which help understand better, he has practice questions, lecture notes, textbook PPT slides(as backup of his notes in case u don't understand them) That's what he told us on the first day and so far so good I'll make a review when the smstr's done but he seems decent
I know he's not normally a SOC 210 prof but he filled in for us and he is THE BEST! He's very accommodating & understanding if you need help. You don't need to attend lectures as he posts his notes but I would recommend going; his lectures are very engaging & he gives insight on exams & homework
Mesbah is one of the best profs, who cares about his students success, He does everything to make sure we understand material and promotes us to learn for knowledge not just grades. Exams are fair to students who actually try to learn and come to class, make sure you understand and you will be fine.
He really cares about his students first prof that I liked u have to put efforts into learning and listening I went to every lecture and always watched the online posted lectures before class and I did all the practice questions and got a 100 in my midterm average is in the 70 but if you work hard and ask questions u will do great love him!
He's a grt prof, gives lots of grade boosters, wants you to succeed, has videos for his lectures, you have to attend when he does practice sessions. Amazing class. Only thing is that his lectures can get a little boring. But overall it's easy to get a good grade in his class.
His class was great and he is good at explaining concepts. He posts all his lectures online so it is easy to catch up or review. He was very engaging and it was easy to follow along. Barely any homework.
One of the best profs I had, take his courses if you can. He posts videos of his lectures online and gives us a lot of practice questions and past exams. He also gives us a week to do our quizzes when on the syllabus it says we only get 24 hours. He's clear in explaining concepts and is honestly such a great prof.
Never seen a prof who would get an applause from students after every single lecture. Some profs don't even get one at the end of classes.
This professor is amazing. He gives good explanations making it easy to understand the course materials. He seems very caring and wants all his students to pass (gave us a grade booster after the midterm and said he would curve our marks after the final). He also posts his lectures as videos on eclass and doesn't test on the textbook.
One of the best profs I've had, he's honestly an amazing guy who really cares for his students. He posts all his lecture, practice quizzes, and tests exactly what he teaches. He also condenses the notes into a few pages for each chapter that's really easy to study from. Overall, I highly recommend him for ECON 102, or any other course he teaches.
Great prof! Lectures were easy to follow, and if you had missed days, he posts all of his lectures which are identical to the in person lectures. I recommend doing work outside of class to ensure a sufficient mark as well. He cares about his students, would definitely recommend.
Dr. Sharaf is super caring for his students and is really accessible outside of class. He has a lot of chances for growth outside of class and honestly was a great lecturer. :D
Honestly the best prof I had this year, actually had fun attending his lectures and he wants the class to do good.
Honestly, if you are passionate about Econ, he might be for you. His lectures are pretty easy to follow but be prepared to have the most bizarre questions on the midterm + final. Midterm and Final were insane bc there were so many parts just to answer 1 question. He did give a midterm booster quiz which was nice. Overall, I recommend :)
Proffesor Sharaf is an amazing lecturer! He takes the time to carefully explain key concepts in class. He is very caring outside of class aswell, carefully explaining concepts and is overall a very nice man! Just make sure to do the practice questions and clearly understand the theory, otherwise it may be hard come the final and midterm.
He's a Bossman. His lectures are really intriguing, after every lecture there was applause. He really wants you to succeed. He posts videos of the lectures, and his notes online. He was available outside of class, and really caring. If take you an Econ course take it with him!
One of the best profs at the UofA. If u have to take any econ classes take it with him. Honestly the goat. His lectures were easy to follow and he actually wants his students to do well. I definitely recommend.
He's great! His explanations for everything are amazing. All his lectures are pre-recorded so missing a class won't hurt you at all. TBH I didn't attend any in-person classes after week 1 and I did fine in the class. If you're confused on whether or not to take him trust me and just unroll in his class.
Dr. Mesbah is a great guy! He's available for a very short period of time after class to clarify any misunderstanding you may have. Just watch the lectures before class and treat the seminar as a revision. I recommend you practice the chapter questions before the exams.
Professor Sharaf is an engaging lecturer who cares about student success. His pre-recorded lectures and practice materials make studying easy. I found unstuckstudy ai super helpful for exam prep alongside the other resources. Overall, a great class to take.
Overall, I'm having a great learning experience with him so far. I did 2 courses with him and what I can tell you is, that if he provides a lecture video and all of the sudden says 'for example' or 'let me remind you guys', skip 10 minutes and he will start explaining what he was going to.
Currently taking his Econ 281 class, but I took his class for Econ 102 and he was great! I appreciate the pre-recorded lectures, posted notes and practice questions. He clearly wants his students to succeed, but I'm finding in 281 that his handwritten notes are a little hard to follow, but writing them myself would take too much time.
he is an amazing prof. one of the best i have had so far at university. he is very clear abput what willbe on the midterm and final. he i svery caring for his students and is willing to extended homework dates and remove lowest marks. he wants everyone to pass his class so he makes sure he does everyhting he can
Mesbah is the most passionate and caring prof I have had thus far and if you have the chance to take one of his classes, you will be eternally benefited. The class isn't one to take if you are wanting to take short cuts, but to quote the Don: "dont fool yourself." If you put in effort, even just going to class, you will thrive and improve your life
Professor Sharaf was a good professor. His lectures were a bit redundant (he repeats the same thing a lot of times). His lectures were not super fun, but he made the material very easy to understand. I do think that there were a ton of homework assignments to do and they weren't posted on schedule but thankfully he extended the deadlines for them.
I do not know how to feel about his lectures...
Mesbah is a great professor who wishes you success. His lectures and review sessions were nice. Please attend them; otherwise, you'll get cooked. The time allocated for the midterms was a tad short, but he made up for it during the finals. If you attend lectures and review sessions, you'll be fine.
Extremely nice, caring and the best prof ever!!
Mostly recopies his written notes with the exact same examples which can be a yawn but the slow pace is helpful if writing by hand. Genuinely wants the course to be a GPA booster for everyone and can be if the material comes naturally to you; graph heavy asf. Literally copy pastes similar questions on exams. DO ALL OF HIS PRACTICE QUESTIONS :)
Great prof, which cares about his students. He posts full videos of his lectures, and in case you can't attend you can just watch it and you will understand everything.
His lectures are frustrating. He repeats himself a lot. He asks questions, doesn't listen for the answer and then lectures you for not answering lol. It's a funny quirk. Here's the thing, he's great. He doesn't use garbage paywalls. He makes sure you won't need the textbook. He really wants you to do well. He cares. Take Econ with him.
Goes above and beyond to set his students up for success. Provides recorded lectures, practice past exams, practice questions before quizzes. Course was 5 quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final.
Really care about the students and wants them to do well. Provides a lot of material and practice exams that are really helpful. 100% would recommend. Genuinely great teacher.
Sharaf was one of the best things to happen in ECON. Although attendance isn't mandatory, show up. He really cares for his students and wants them to succeed. He teaches very well and make sure to go over practice questions. Show up to class, he's honestly the best professor I have had.
An amazing and caring guy. Loved his lessons.
Highly recommended
AMAZING prof. Goes above and beyond to prepare you. He gives you notes, goes through examples in class, 3 practice midterms/finals with answers, in class review before tests, videos of all lectures and reviews...seriously, this dude tries to help you in every way. The content is difficult no matter who you have for a prof.
If you're wondering whether to take his class. JUST DO IT! You don't even need to attend lectures; he records the content and posts them on eClass. He's super accessible and truly cares about students. Very few quizzes a semester with generous time and flexibility. Tons of practice midterms & exams. And he even gave a midterm booster. He's AMAZING!
The lectures are the most interesting which i ever had in my life. Everything is explained clearly and multiple times. I missed some of the lectures and still caught everything up. Made me love economics
This professor will make you feel that you are in high school AP courses, were easy to understand, very clear, repeat important information and terms, lets us know if something will be in exams and quizzes, if you need a GPA booster or to complete a course requirement, then Sharaf is the one.
He makes sure you know concepts well even when he over explains
- Explains very clearly, but sometimes to the point of repeating himself - Answers questions outside the lecture hall after class - Teaches using a lot of drawing and examples - Makes the course feel simple
He's a really good instructor. His way of teaching is very passionate and he makes sure everyone understands the topic. He cares about his students and is a nice person in general.
He always makes lectures entertaining! His exams are very similar to the various practice tests he provides. PLUS he has a library of videos of his own creation in case you need to revisit a concept. Simple grading and no assignments, all quizzes and exams. 10/10
He gives amazing examples that make it so it is easy to grasp concepts that stay in your brain. His practice midterms are exactly like the midterm with words switched around.
He posts the notes and lecture videos, but the lectures are very boring and repetitive. It would be a better use of time to not go to the lecture and just do the notes on your own.
Meshbah is genuinely the GOAT. He's so first-year friendly since he actually puts all lectures online if you miss them. He makes everything clear and goes through complex examples over and over, using funny examples to drive it home. If Mo Salah wasn't the Egyptian King, it would instead be Mesbah Sharaf.
Professor Sharaf is very rational. The opportunity cost of his lectures is super low because the marginal benefit is through the roof. As a student, the cost class is very inelastic, but Professor Sharaf makes every minute worth it. please please PLEASE take his class. You won't regret it
A really good professor who's also very kind. He cares about his students and makes sure they understand everything. He explains everything in detail in class by making clear diagrams and notes. Definitely recommend!
Honestly, he is a fantastic professor and a very kind person; he really cares about every student and explains everything in detail. He posts the videos of his lectures online, which are very helpful. He is also very funny, and his lectures were enjoyable. Please take him if you have the chance.
goat. such a straightforward class, dont need to show up, all lectures and slides are posted
a very nice guy id recommend him hes able to break down comples topics into simple bits and pieces
Mr. Sharaf is a terrific professor. He teaches with passion and truly cares about seeing his students succeed. He posts lots of resources such as recordings of lectures, notes and previous exams. His lectures are memorable and enjoyable. I'm sure he is one of the very few professors who receives a standing ovation at the end of the semester.
This guy is genuinely the best, the only reason you could do bad in this class is if you don't put any effort in yourself because he gives SO many resources for you to do well and to understand concepts. Tests are also straightforward and although he posted all the lectures online I would go to class bcz he truly cares for everyone to do well
Best professor ever. He gives many resources and examples in and out of class. All of the quizzes are open-book. You can choose the day and time for your midterm and final. He posts all the lectures online if you're unable to attend. You can tell he really cares about his students, and the only way to do poorly is if you literally don't try.
A professor that genuinely cares about students passing
loved him so much im gonna take him again for econ 102, one of the best to ever do it, explains things very well, posts lectures and oractice exams on canvas and is the best at explaining complex topics he uses simple examples and constantly repeats it so the concepts STICK in your brain. i love him so much and acc wish the world and more for him
Amazing prof. Had videos of all of his lectures. More than enough practice questions and explained things clearly. Sometimes he could ramble on about something, but I would always prefer a professor over-explaining something than under-explaining it. Office hours are good and he clears questions up very well. Textbook is not required at all.
Mesbah is an amazing professor. His lectures and the notes he writes reflect what is on the tests, midterms and finals well. He posts videos for every chapter going into depth on the terms and questions. He does say a textbook is required but not too many of the textbook questions were on his tests. He also provides prior year exams for practice
i love this king genuinely best teacher i've ever had
He explains difficult concepts in a clear, simple way that makes them easy to understand the first time. Helps simplify complicated terms or concepts. Gives lots of examples. His videos are a bit long but very worthwhile. His passion really shows and helps with learning. Exams were fair, and I would definitely recommend him!!
10/10. Fair exams, fair assignments, great professor Absolutely recommend.
He clearly wants his students to succeed. He provides so much material to help us understand concepts and prepare us for exams. The practice tests he gives us are very similar to the real ones. Best professor ever!
He really made sure to explain everything in depth and paced it very well so if you were falling behind you could actually learn, and if you were ahead you weren't getting bored. he's very patient and fair.
Mesbah is amazing... He WANTS you to succeed. Lectures can be redundant, but honestly, an hour is so much time to do such little course content, so it makes sense he repeats concepts. You could probably finish this class in a month. The final is 49% of your grade, but if you study, you can do very well. Demand and supply, baby. Demand and supply.
