Mia is the best Phil teacher! She's intelligent and teaches the coursework in a fun and comprehensive style. Great sense of humor, very open; overall sweet & helpful. Must attend class to understand the content, but she works with you via e-mail, too!
Professor Wood is an excellent instructor. Her tests were reasonable. The class discussions were stimulating and refreshing. I highly reccomend taking this class.
Very good teacher, the class is easy if you pay attention in class and actually attend. she is very understanding and sweet, so i recommend her if you are at pierce or anywhere else
Excellent, Excellent teacher. She is so helpful and her test are really easy. Probally one of the Best Proffesors at pierce
Mia is awesome. Great class, very interesting and fun. She's obviously passionate about the subject and it really reflects in class. If you want to the philosophy, take it with her.
She is SUPER GREAT...she is really helpful. If you don't get anything she will be more than glad to help you, even on test days, during test hours. I loved her class which is why I signed up for her classes the following semester. She really cares about her students...I love her:) she uses the book
Mia Wood is THE BEST SHE IS AWESOME she helps so, much she really does care about her students and, she will help on your test if you have any questions. She tell you everything that's on the test.Mia is the best teacher for philosophy I will take care class all over again because I love Her class.
She's a total spaz, but truely cares.
she is fun and maeks class entertaining!! o love her class.
Mia was a great teacher. She truely cared about her students, and the class was not hard at all. No complaints. A+++.
Very lax on attendance & homework. Tests mandatory. Great instructor, tries hard when we just don't get it.
While Mia has some great attributes as discussed here by other students... I personally found her lectures confusing, and complicated an already complicated subject matter. She also plays favorites.
Very interesting subject matter, but also confusing. Sometimes I feel like it's being spoken in another language. You have to really pay attention to succeed, and the tests are short answer and essay style.
Hard Exam,Confusing Material,Boring Lecture, what could be worse than that???don't take her
super nice teacher. i like her as a person rather than a teacher. she's not hard nor easy. on her tests, just write the same stuff she explains in her lectures and she will give you a good grade.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had.I recommend her to anybody. She's a terrific person;very helpful and friendly. It was a hard subject but her notes were helpful.I love Mia! Follow her notes u can get a good grade.
she is very nice and kind. take this as a tip for this class; before every tests go to her office and ask her to explain you some of her test review's subjects and put them down on the test word by word. take part in the conversations and show that you are in the class.
The subject seems to be comfusing to some people. But if there anybody who can help is Mia Wood. She's very helpful. Her class is really fun. you're not going to fall sleep.
Great Class!!She is very nice, energetic, and does a great job in organizing the subject in a way that is easier to understand. There is a lot of difficult papers that we must analyze for the papers, but we go over the basic structure of the writings before. She is a picky grader, but she allows re-writes. I improved my writing by writing clearer.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DONT LIKE TO STUDY HARD TAKE THIS CLASS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS STUDY THE NOTES SHE HAS AND IT IS REALLY EASY TO GET A B. GOOD PROFESSOR. TAKE HER.
Mia's my favorite teacher.Very helpful, confusing subject but she helps students alot .U'll love her personality.I love her.if u study her notes well then you can get an Aor B.BUT FOR GRAMMAR,SPELLING mistakes she deducts points.take her u'll fall in love with her.
Ms. Wood is very nice and helpful, but I have to warn everyone, this class gets boring from time to time and makes you want to discuss more current problems and events, but it is an intro class. Nonetheless it is an easy A if you study for an hour every week, and you will learn to be a critical thinker and analyze your life in a new perspective.
Very helpfull teacher. Not only a good teacher but also a good human being. She listens to you even though it's not related to the course work. Overall, she is an awesome teacher.^^
Total sweetheart. Class is based on only 3 exams, no final no midterm.. last exam taken as final but ALL exams worth same amount (%25) and final %25 based on participation. Posts exam outlines on website. Very approachable, always smiling... interesting topics.
Very nice teacher. Anyone can get a "B" in the class as long as you do the papers. For the most part she gives everyone "B"'s on their papers even when they are horrible. Easy class to take to satisfy your critical thinking.
FUNY woman!!!! she is awesome! i livedher so much, her lectures are great (mostly class disscusions) answers all your questions. Awesome proff!
she is a nice woman. trying to help you, and her tests are fare. if you study and listen to her you should be fine
Definitely worth taking. Nice lady.
she's such a nice person. she defnitely cares about her students and want them to do well. very clear lectures, understanding, fun and easy going. Loved her class!!! if i were to take philosophy again i would take it with her again!
Great, thought provoking prof! She knows her stuff and makes you think. I loved her class and think she is a fine person.
I never had a good experience with a Philosophy class/professor, but she is a very kind and understanding person who makes the class as easy as possible for her students.
by far the best teacher i've ever had. VERY nice and supportive. funny too!
One of the best instructors in community colleges. I recommend her.
she's all sugar. So helpful ALWAYs smiling and makes the material fun with impressions and plenty of enrergy. The material is interesting and the tests are more essay/short answer like based on class notes and book references.Follow her lead on what she emphasizes on ( as well as a couple ideas in the book) and you'll Ace it.
Mia is an amazing teacher! She genuinely wants to see her students succeed. Attendance is not mandatory and she even has a website with all lecture notes and class material. Class is extremely useful though and a very fun environment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Symbolic logic. Not difficult if you do the practice in the book. No surprises, actual exams were just like practice exams. Dropped lowest test score. No EC except what was on test. Worked with us outside of class in study groups. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional. Fun person!
The best professor, yet most challenging class, I've ever taken. You have to work for your grade, but the "A" at the end of the semester is worth every second of your time spent. Professor Wood is wonderful! Take her!
Symbolic language is hard. Regardless of its complexity, Mia is understanding and sweet. Knows material very well and will do anything to make it clear for the student. Tests are a bit tricky but not hard. Paper due every other week. I got a B but that's because I procrastinated on the papers. I recommend her.
Mia was amazing!! The class material is close to impossible, but Mia makes it understandable somehow. Yes, she insists we call her Mia. She's so caring and always making 100% sure that each classmate understands it all. Take this class with Mia!
I love this teacher. Sheis not only inspiring but she was so helpful, meating with me fo coffee to go over my problem areas. I took her in the summer as an Honors class. I actuall enjoyed going to her classes. She makes Philosphy fun!!!
Mia is wonderful! She's very helpful and her lectures are fun. Contact her through email or call her and she'll arrange hours to work around your schedule. Took her as a PACE class and he had four journals and two tests. All fairly easy if you pay attention in class.
Mia kicks ass. She is very helpful, funny, and friendly. The class was easy for me. You only have to attend if you want to, and it is very flexible. This means if you know whats going to be talked about, or you learn on your own, you can leave and just be there for exam dates!
She is just one of the best teachers ever!! when I first took this class I was complitely lost but she just makes everything look so easy and undarestanding that you just end up loving her class. She is focused on teaching u the best way she can and make it easy for you to unaderestand. She is ALWAYS abailable to clear up any question u may have.
on of the BEST teacher in the pierce, lecture is fun , easy, and u actually learn somthing.....she is just awesome ^^
She is a geat profesor. Highly recommended. Very fun & outgoing. Best of all, she does her best to make the class understand the material. She teaches by the book so if u miss a day tats ok cuz u can just read the book. Also, she outlines wat shes going to teach online for those who don't have books.
Took symbolic logic, which is easy if you've taken a programming class. No essays, just three tests.
She is THE best teacher at Pierce. She is so nice, so clear, and so helpful. Attend. not required but if you miss a class you basically will fail the test. Class is easy, not boring. Tests are easy as long as you attended. Studying is required. Great class. Def. reccomend
Mia is awesome! I just finished my second class with her and she is so helpful. Attendance is not mandatory and neither is reading the book. All lessons are done with Powerpoint and she makes them available online. Three tests and a final. No homework or other assignments.
She's incredibly clear, easy to learn from, so much fun, really cares that you do well, and just downright awesome. Unlike other teachers she knows you by name and recognizes your face, will help you with ANYTHING, and is just the perfect professor. TAKE HER CLASSES!
Absolutely loved her! She is amazing. Her essays are actually interesting and allow you to think an explore your own ideas. Very knowledgeable and understanding. Always willing to help. Responds to emails very fast.
Mia is totally awesome! In all my years at Pierce - she is the best teacher I've had. I definitely recommend taking her even if you have no prior experience with philo. She makes it fun and challenging. She's helpful inside and out of class. I cant rave enough about her!!
easy class. i never showed up. but still got a b. chill teacher. material is hella boring.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! seriously, if u take a phil class, take her! 4 essays, 1 mid, 1 final. Class discussions are a big help when you write your essays. Readily available to help students. Reponds to emails quickly. Will clarify things if you have any questions. Just be sure to do the reading before class discussions or you will be lost.
She has a great sense of humor! Uses farside and other comics for teaching and relating. Can seem forward, but is adiment on making sure all understand, becomes very approachable at this time. Makes herself endlessly available if need help. Class is a blast! Uses the book A LOT - hint: DO THE EXERCISES in the book. Gives test info exaples. GREAT!
Prof. Wood is a very helpful teacher. She is always willing to help you if you don't understand the material or anything in the class. Phil 1 is not necessarily an easy class, but Prof. Wood breaks it down into terms you can understand. I recommend taking her.
She is not what I thought she would be. I was referred by another prof (who loves her) who I respected. She does not relate subject to anything...she is in her own world. Very nice, but don't take her.
Truly the best!
Good teacher. But can get frustrating because she tries to fit too many words into one sentence when she speaks and sometimes you just wish she could get to the point already. Learned a lot though. Belongs at a respectable 4 year school teaching instead.
One of the most amazing teachers! She's probably the smartest teacher I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and take Mia Wood! I had no interest in philosophy before i took this class and by the end, I was sad to go. Show up to class pay attention and study a little and you'll be fine. Teachers like this are rare, don't miss out! Plus she's real cute!
I MUST ADMIT THAT IF ONE DAY I CAN TEACH LIKE MIA, I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED MY GOAL! Also she was my college crush...but hush;) She is incredibly helpful and understanding. As a philosophy major at a university, I came back to pierce to take Logic with her and though due to illness I couldn't finish class, I still owe her a whole lot. She is amazing.
She is amazing.
Mia is my favorite teacher hands down. She set the bar for future college teachers. She is extremely helpful and generous with her time. She has a nice balance of challenging but not overwhelming the class. We still keep in touch as she is definitely an inspiration.
professor wood is an amazing professor who really knows her stuff. the material is rather hard though. she really pushes you to become a better righter, preparing you for philosophy 5. she offers help three times a week outside of class. class is long though, she keeps you the whole period
Badass Professor. Be sure you can write an essay and push through difficult readings before taking this course, the class will be hard if you can't. There is really nothing else to worry about besides those 2 things. She explains things clearly, hands out study guides with the questions that will be on the exam, and is always willing to help.
Excellent Professor. Wont continue until everyone is on the same page, very helpful during class and office hours, and no overwhelming amounts of hw. If you just study, show up most of the time, do EC, and get help with anything you dont understand, youll get an A. I also forgot to do a fair amount homework, and still received an A!
The class itself isn't going to be easy, after all, its philosophy. Yet she is a great teacher. Pay attention in class, take notes, your grades are mainly based on essay exams.
Very nice, energetic, amazing lectures. I took the honors section and it was interesting. She gives you a study guide for tests. There is no hw. she covers everything on the tests in class, if you're there for lecture and take notes you're good. very helpful
Great teacher in every way, very enthusiastic and knows her students well. She really knows what shes doing, it is a difficult class you have to work for your grade or else you wont just make it by. She will really help you understand the topics. Loved her would take another class with her.
Simply great!!! Be in class, she helps you alot, straightforward exams.Guaranteed A.
I suck at philosophy and didn't like it but Mia made it incredibly fun. Awesome professor and made tests available online a week before taking but very hard grading. Take lots of time to study before tests from online and you don't even need to show up to class
You're in good hands if you take this teacher. You're gonna get stuck on the way to being able to do the exercises, but she is very encouraging about asking her questions, emailing her, and seeing her during office hours. This is as easy as Intro to Symbolic Logic is going to get. Pierce is lucky to have her.
This teacher is straight forward, she plays no games. She teaches like a real professor. She is hard for people who are not good at thinking. She is very very helpful and real crystal clear. Attendance is mandatory because without notes your screwed. There is no book, but alot of stuff you need to print. So get ready to buy ink. I recommend her.
Mia has a less than conventional method of teaching and explaining which can be fun but can also be some what excessive and ridiculous as far as the route she takes to make her points. You may feel you are learning nothing the entire class but leave, completely understanding the concepts but not knowing why you do. We had 3 tests and no extra work.
Professor Wood is amazing! She is nice and incredibly funny. She will explain the theories in different ways to help the entire class understand. She tells us exactly what to do to improve our test scores-if they are low-and offers to help during her office hours. She is so funny and out there! I love it!
One of the best teachers. I've had she goes out of her way to help you if you don't understand the course work. And she explains things in ways that help you get it. Highly recommended. But be prepared to pay attention in class: participation help but isn't mandatory, no book but make sure you devote an ink cartridge to this class.
So the first half of this class is quite easy. The 2nd half is HARD but i got an A thanks to prof. wood's help. Professor Wood is VERY HELPFUL. She does everything she can to help you with any problems you are having. She encourages you to e-mail her or come to office hours. She also explains thing very clearly and does not move too fast.
class is very hard, but she is an awesome professor. she will offer help, and clarify anything that you need. She is a great professor.
Very nice and helpful in class and office hours. I took Philo 1 and 6 winter, 2013. Both got A+. She will make the subject easy. Strongly recommended.
ok look this prof does not know how to teach im not sure about all these good ratings but i tried my best in this class and i barley passed if you dont like PHIL then you will struggle with her because she doesnt know how to explain. DONT TAKE HER FIND SOMEONE ELSE TRUST ME! all these ratings are FALSE! unless they were phil majors
She's a good teacher. attempts to explains everything to you so you can understand. like every class, it's up to you to put in the work. this is a critical thinking course... so if you're not going to put in the time, you're going to have a bad day. at times i had trouble, but fought through it with questions to the professor and studying.
I'v always got A's and B's. After the 2nd exam I was lost and didn't understand anything. I told her many times, all she said was keep trying. She may help you in office hours but not in class. We had about 10 drops. We had 14 F's. YES 14. Take her be ready to learn everything yourself and struggle. This has been been first F in my life.
DO NOT take her. If you want to struggle then take her. Philosophy 9 in the fall semester 2014 had 14 fails. She simply does not know how to teach. Take anyone else but her.
Be careful! exam 1 10%, exam 2 10%, exam 3 30%, final 40% She forgot to log my 3rd exam and I got an F, me and 13 other people. She does let you retake exams but be prepared to teach yourself the material. She's very disorganized and makes a lot of mistakes so make sure you get the correct grade and she log's all your exams at the end.
Frustrating. Wood squanders class time. Her lectures are extemporaneous at best, clarifying nothing. Incoherent. Difficult to know what she wants. A merciless grader. Im sure shes a nice person but thats irrelevant. Wood does not know how to teach the subject.
Mia is so supportive and goes out of her way to help you succeed! The subject matter is tough but I wouldn't advise taking this course with anyone else. She is clear and gives plenty of extra credit, including a retake of the first exam. She also does practice tests that are exactly like the actual exams and open book quizzes. Love her!
Do the work, show up to class, put in the effort... definite A. She's clear, a dedicated teacher to her students, super approachable, gives tons of extra credit... you can't go wrong with Mia! Loved her class and her upbeat spirit. Definitely learned a lot with her.
Philos 5 online. She sent out a syllabus with the wrong book on it so it was already off to a bad start. Her class is all essays based on readings that don't connect. Had me revise a paper and on the final edit asked that I changed everything back to the way I originally had it. Changes due dates without prior notice. VERY UNORGANIZED.
This professor won't just be you're instructor, she'll be you're best friend. She's extremely intelligent but sometimes she gets too excited and loses her train of thought. Nonetheless, she is a wonderful professor! Would recommend to anyone who has the mental stamina to keep up with the material.
Mia is wonderful professor who has a genuine interest in the success of her students. The amount of reading and writing is substantial, but it keeps you engaged just enough without being completely over the top. I have taken a number of Phil professors and they all seem to exude an undeserved ego. It was refreshing that Mia was so down to earth.
Mia is absolutely fantastic. She always brings real world examples into class to make discussions more interesting, gives tons of feedback, and really cares about her students.
Such a sweet and fantastic woman! Mia's passion for phil rubs off on her students. Her lectures made the readings comprehensible and she gives students A LOT of opportunities. Sometimes, she is a bit all over the place, but it doesn't deter her from being a great prof. Loved her and loved learning philosophy in the class environment she creates
Awesome teacher! She goes slow and dissects all the readings making a hard subject easier to understand. She is an easy grader and gives a lot of opportunities for extra points. She's so sweet and has an awesome energy. If you take good notes you'll be able to do just fine on any test.
Awesome teacher! One of the nicest I've ever had if not THE nicest I've ever had. Probably one of the few professors at URI who actually cares about the well being and understanding of a student. If you have issues going on or are sick or have a lot of work in a different class she is completely understanding and generous! :)
Mia is one of the best profs I've ever had. Philosophy is a confusing subject but if you pay attention and take good notes you'll be fine. She explains things really well and makes it easy to understand. She is really passionate and really cares about her students! She's really chill about make up work and she doesn't grade tough at all. TAKE HER!
Her class is boring, but she has the kindest soul. She really cares about her students and is not a tough grader. Just put in some effort and you will pass. I love her and would definitely take her again if I needed to take more phil classes.
Prof Mia is the only professor in my life who got a heart made of gold.
Mia is a very caring and helpful professor. I personally didnt find the class (Ancient Greek Philosophy) interesting, but she made was helpful in explaining concepts I didnt understand. She really wants her students to succeed, so she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. If you are good at reading and writing getting an A wont be hard.
This professor is hands down the most caring about her students. My most difficult class, but she took her time to help me through it.
Shes such a nice professor, just really genuinely nice and likes to make her students feel comfortable and included. I dont really like philosophy and I wasnt crazy about the material in this class but if youre into philosophy, take her.
Mia is an amazing professor, she's super down to Earth and is willing to help you with any concepts that are difficult. There were only 2 small assignments and 1 weekly reading quiz which were open notes online. Plus she assigns the writing prompt for the test a week before so you have time to prep. I would definitely take another class with her
Online class was solid, just a lot more reading and writing than I expected
She does not engage with the students and so she tends to brush off students questions as though they dont matter. I found that to be very rude and out of the ordinary. Her lectures tend to wander too, so if you get lost then you are kind of stuck with what you got. I would never recommend her. There are better philosophy professors out there.
good teacher. if you are having trouble, she is more than willing to work with you to pass the class.
She is sometimes difficult to follow during lectures and rushes her office hours. I still passed the class, but she really made me jump through some unnecessary hoops just to have some basic questions answered.
This was the best philosophy teacher Ive had. I have difficult with philosophy classes usually , this teacher made it understandable and is very kind .
amazing professor! always open during office hours and accessible at all times. she's very understanding and helps you with anything throughout the whole course. she also has a Skype so if you miss class she is always available to help through video chat or phone call. She's really funny and cares a lot about her students.
Her lectures kind of drag on as she tends to repeat herself a lot. Very by the book lectures. Also, there are a lot of ways to get a hold of her, but you have to do it her way. She prefers a quick 2 minute call over checking her email so if you have more than one question forget it.
Great professor, really allows you to understand philosophy and allows revisions on past exams. Three exams, ten quizzes, and a few discussions. She gives great feedback on exams, which really helps you do better on the next exams (as the exams are essay format) and the revisions. She also responds to emails promptly.
Professor Wood is an amazing professor!! She literally provides all of the resources you need so you can pass. Symbolic Logic is a pretty challenging course but if you read and actually try, you will pass. She even posts lecture videos and is always available via email/Skype if you need help. It's rare to find professors who actually cares like her
Professor Wood is amazing. Her lectures were very clear, to the point, and funny at times. She covers the subject from A to Z and as long as you keep pace with the class you should have no problem. The subject and material are difficult but doable. I had a hard time because it was compressed into 5 weeks for the summer session.
she an amazing professor. I really enjoyed taking the class. She wants to help you succeed
Professor Wood is an amazing teaching. She makes sure to help and guide you in the right direction on every assignment (and there is a lot of them). The readings in this class are the works of philosophers, there is a discussion and a quiz each week, along with a reading assignment and her exams are essays. The class is rigorous but worth it!
The "book" (she links the chapters in Sakai) is totally useless. This professor is all over the place and covers so much material that in the end nothing is taught. Do NOT take this class. Terrible!!
Mia is one of the best professors at Pierce. She has a lot of video lectures, so if you get stuck or miss class you can view the lecture on that particular piece of lecture/material. She gives you extra credit reading quizzes and re-tests on all exams. Amazing professor! Take her class.
I've taken Professor Wood for both PHILOS006 Logic in Practice and PHILOS009 Symbolic Logic. She is a wonderful instructor. She is clear on her grading, organized with her syllabus and lectures, and she is available outside of class if you need any help. Her class isn't easy, but she is very kind and truly cares about helping the students learn.
Professor Wood is an incredible professor. A true gem, who cares about her students and is always available to you when needed. The feedback and help I received in her class has been absolutely invaluable to my academic, professional career and most importantly to my writing. Her classes are incredible! A must take for any future philosphers!
Professor Wood has to be the most genuine spirit I have met. I have taken PHILOS 001, 002, and 006 with her and they were all nice experiences. There is a lot of reading, but the excerpts she chooses are interesting and insightful. She gives amazing feedback as well! She definitely cares about her students a lot.
Mia is easily my favorite philosophy professor at Pierceand there's a lot of good competition! If you struggle w/ your mental health, you will never meet a professor more understanding. She's hilarious and kind and her classes are interesting as hell to boot. It's a privilege to study with her.
Professor Wood is so much fun! Her lectures are interesting and discussion based. She cares and is always happy to help. I loved her class and loved having her as a professor. She cares about her students and is such a gem of a teacher.
Content was genuinely difficult, but amazing prof made up for it. She's kind, patient, fair, and extremely responsive with emails. Gives a retake for every (open notes) exam, EC, quizzes have unlimited attempts. Often disorganized, but nothing she wouldn't fix immediately after a quick email. Don't fall behind, everything builds off of each other.
She was honestly one of the best teachers I had. I am not an English person so taking a philosophy class was a bit scary at first especially since I was a first year when I took her class. For my class, we had to take a quiz or two a week along with a discussion post. The posts were alot but she isnt a harsh grader. She is extremely understandable
Mia wood is an amazing educator. She has done a stupendous job with taking into account her students mental health during these tough times of the pandemic. She is relatable, engaging, reasonable, and understanding.
I've taken several of Mia's classes. The assignments were organized and almost always had clear explanations, instructions and expectations. They also made the same material open for people with different levels of experience in phil. She was always accessible outside of class and sympathetic and open to any questions or concerns. Mia's the best!
Loved her as my professor. I have taken many philosophy classes from her; she is really understanding with her students. Her lectures are concise along with her reading quizzes. Make sure to read the explanations at the end of each quiz as its really helpful for you to reinforce the concepts you just learned.
Mia is the epitome of what educators should be! Even though were only 5-6 students who consistently showed up, she really cared about our class. She is organized and sets you up to succeed. She makes difficult concepts easy to understand and gives unlimited attempts on quizzes and 2 attempts on exams. I'd take any of her classes in a heartbeat!
Mia is extremely passionate about the course material and values her students' success. This passion sometimes borders on fanaticism, though it rarely seems to rub off on students (which I would say is more so due to the content rather than the professor). She is weird, but also fun, and grades fairly.
ive taken two classes with prof. wood she is extremely helpful and caring and very passionate about philosophy. weekly readying quizzes and discussions are the bulk of our grade but as long as you read youll be fine.
ive taken two classes with prof. wood she is extremely helpful and caring. shes responds quickly to emails and is frequently available in office hours. weekly reading quizzes and discussions are the bulk of our grade but as long as you read youll be fine.
I expected this class to be easy because she had great reviews. She is an amazing person dont get me wrong but her class is INSANELY HARD. She grades the discussion posts and essays so roughly, sometimes no one even gets a perfect score. I barely got to hold on to my A. She does let you do revisions but its still hard to get an A. Lots of reading!
She's so passionate, kind, & understanding. If you have anything going on in your life, she will bend over backwards to help you succeed. I wish I could've had real lectures w/ her, as my class was asynchronous. The weekly quizzes are very easy. The weekly discussions are a bit tricky, but just do it; same w/ the 3 essays. Take her class!
Professor Wood is great, her class consists of 3 essays and 14 discussions/quizzes. Don't be alarmed though if you take the time to read the material then you'll get so much out of this class and all the assignments will be relatively easier. Prof has office hours/responds to emails fast and is always giving great feedback to help you improve.
For an async online class, I found her class engaging. She has prepared the book in a way that you have to participate. Her quizzes and exams are doable and not too hard. Great professor, and you'll learn something.
Class consists of 4 essays about a 1000 words in length based on readings on various enlightenment era philosophers. There is also an online zoom lecture/discussion. Lectures consist of the professor reviewing the week's reading and answering any questions. Although its not my preferred format, Professor Wood works hard to make the concepts clear.
This professor is a gem! You need to read the material and watch her lectures. The discussions and participation make a big difference, not just exams and quizzes. Professor Woods is very caring and compassionate. I wish more professors were like her. She is my one professor who has made a big impact and I won't be forgetting any time soon.
Prof Mia is a fair teacher. There is no required text book. However she gives out plenty of materials to read. Several writing assignment follow the readings. I wish she also lectures. All in all a great class.
I took PHIL 12 with Mia during the Spring semester. She is incredibly humble and caring toward all students. Mia facilitates space for everyone's voice to be heard in her classes. I took PHIL 12 with Mia. When I found out that she taught a PHIL 14 section, I knew I had to enroll. Mia is a phenomenal professor. It is seldom you will meet a professor so passionate about helping other students succeed. The readings can be hard, but Mia understands this. Take advantage of the additional resources Mia offers and the plentiful EC!
Awesome
Philos 09 was really hard but professor Wood gives you A LOT of chances to improve your grade. I could have gotten an A but I was just over the semester. She gives retests and extra credits if you really want that A. The class is just really hard. Go to her office hours for help or use the tutor she provides. Take her!!
Mia is such a sweetheart! She really deeply cares for all her students and wants to see them succeed! Just complete each discussion and quiz every week and look out for her feedback, and you should be fine for her essays. I would totally take her class again!
I took phil20 and did not see any reviews on it. Great prof, very caring and considerate grader. Just be wary if you are NOT a phil major, DO NOT TAKE IN WINTER. Not an intro course, 3 essays in 4 weeks with very heavy reading material. If anything, hoping to avoid anyone from being in my position: staying up and stressing about 1000 word essays.
I really enjoyed taking professor wood's class. She always gave good and thorough feedback and was a fair grader. The readings were super interesting, just long!
Professor Wood is incredibly passionate and dedicated to helping students succeed. The readings can be challenging, but she offers great resources like unstuckstudy to support learning. Definitely take advantage of her office hours!
Mia is a great professor, I honestly would not have passed this course if it wasn't for her. The course itself was very difficult for me and took plenty hours of studying. You will have to put in effort to gain an understanding but if you keep trying to retain information, Mia's course structure will help you succeed. MANY chances to boost grades!
The best philosophy at Pierce and my favorite professor overall. Great attention to detail, very knowledgeble and she put in a lot of work into the course. I highly recommend Mia. You will learn a lot and you'll get a lot of support if you need it.
She goes by Mia and she is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. She is always willing to help, she responds to emails quickly, and overall an amazing teacher. The quizzes weren't hard, but the website she uses for the homework was kind of annoying. She doesn't grade hard on the essays either. Take her class!
Super nice and helpful.
Best teacher I've ever had. She's actually awesome there isn't one bad thing I can say about her. She's so funny and actually cares about you as a person. In all, she really just cares about her students.
I took Philosophy ethics with her and then signed up for symbolic logic, she is the best, a very caring and understanding teacher, there's nothing bad to say about her or her classes.
