Very accomplished professor. Interesting lectures, very friendly, and respectful of students. HOWEVER --- VERY difficult course which other professors offer easier. Worth it if you really want to LEARN. Graded on a distribution (which is good)
interesting lectures, exams are a little difficult, but he does provide a nice curve towards the end of the semester. respectful, fun, and intelligent professor.
If you take him over the summer he should be easier then if take him during the semester. He assigns two huge [and I mean HUGE] independent projects, one project takes an around 40 hours to complete. No kidding. You really gotta work hard in his class.
Interesting lectures; exams very difficult; don't have to buy the book. Exams based on lecture. MUST take very good notes during the class. Gives two very long projects, to be done independently. Grades on a distribution if a lot of people fail exam.

One of the best professors I've had at Baruch. You learn much more in this class than from the other professors who teach the course. The 40 hour project that he assigns is also done in most of the 3202 courses anyway, so there is no escaping it.
What are you talking about? You don't learn that much in his class))))
Take this course with another professor; it'll be much easier. Palley is a good guy, but he is difficult. You won't learn much about ACC, mostly about CIS. Don't take Palley unless u are willing to study HARD. Gotta take very good notes in his class.
Would not take him again if I had to.
are you a robot who speaks 100 words a minute, slow down!! write something already!!
worst one around
He's very lenient wit curving. there's just this one project "the warren case" that will give u a headache for 2 wks, but his TA has an answer key available at all tims..hint! Cheating on tests are easy as long as he doesnt see it, it doesnt exi

clear, fair one of the best out there
prepare for a semester of hell
waren CASE is HEELLLLLLLL!!! MYOB isnt too easy either. Nice guy, very smart and nice. Its the course that sucks azz.
He's an okay professor, he speaks very fast and you have to try to catch every word he says because his tests are straight from your notes, don't even buy the book...The tests are really hard some of the questions are impossible
Nobody ever said that Palley doesn't know his stuff with respect to CIS, ACCT, and FIN. However, he's extremely firm in the classroom and gives killer exams. His notes are broken because the guy speaks extremely rapidly. This course could be much bettr
Dr Pally, Does not help at all Good luck if you take his class. 65% talks about stories and his stupid introductions to the beginning of each of his stories. talks on on on and none of the stupid stories are on the midterm. He does not grade the exams.
BE PREPARED TO WORK IF YOU ARE TAKING THIS CLASS. HIS TEST ARE FROM HIS NOTES, TAKE A TAPE RECORDER TO CLASS AND DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. TEST ARE ESSAY AND MULTIPLE CHOICE. YOU ALSO HAVE 2 STRESSFUL. GOOD THING ABOUT THIS CLASS IS A HUGE CURVE.
D0 NOT TAKE THIS PROF: REALLY BAD BARUCH SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROF:
(This was a summer class). He is a decent person, but teaching is bareable. He dictates his lecture, talks a lot about other topics other than accounting, and talks real fast. He curves on the class performance and he does not use the textbook.
Be prepared to take good notes, does not teach the textbook. Heavily stresses group work and case-writing skills. Will have you well-prepared for other clases requiring case-writing
i wish i took it with another prof. Palley is a nice guy, and he knows a lot, but the way he is teaching is not very clear. Talks too fast, jumping from once thing to another.
He's teaching way too fast. His tests are just impossible. He doesn't curve the whole class equally, he curve base on what you get as a final grade. Got a 75 90 & 80 and high grades on both project and end up w/ B+ only!!
wish i took it with another prof.... Stay away from his class !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good prof. but a demanding class. He is very clear and understanding of the student. Does a good job with the material, is interesting. But makes you work.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Exams are rough - but gives a curve. Gives a good but challenging course. Has extended project deadlines - cares about the student.
Excellent prof. Course is well done, with focus on case analysis. This skill really grows over the semester.

Overall bad professor... Baruch can't get rid off this tenure professor; he does not care if you do well or give him a bad rating because he has his tenure ship. I graduated with an accounting degree don’t take his class…you will hate him.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK JUST TAKE NOTES. His tests are ridiculously hard. Photocopy 3 other peoples notes when you take his tests because he talks too fast and his tests are all on in class notes.
Beware! Hard exams, demanding case studies, fast talker. Textbook of little value. Excellent logical organization of material.
He is the greatest prof ever. You just have to pay attention in class and never have to open the book. Also, he knows a lot about the subject and is a pretty nice guy. Take him and you won't regret it!
Surprised at some of these reviews. He talks fast, but explains the material well. If you take good notes and read the book, the exams aren't tough. Lots of work on case studies, but I found them interesting. If you're looking for a blow off class, this isn't it, but if your interested in the material, then he is good quality.
READ THIS!! I AM DOING YOU ALL A FAVOR AND TELLING YOU THAT HE IS A COMPUTER EXPERT AND I'M SURE SOME OF THESE EVALUATIONS ARE PHONY! THEY MAY EVEN BE COMING FROM PALLEY HIMSELF? THE TRUTH IS THAT HE IS A VERY HARD PROFESSOR. HE CAN BE INTERESTING AT TIMES BUT 90% OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASS WERE UNHAPPY WITH HIS PERFORMANCE AS YOU MIGHT BE; TRUST
He is the best for acouting major. His class is not too hard because all his exam questions come from class notes. All you have to do is to copy notes and don't even bother to buy the book! He is the best compare to other accouting professors!!
he is a good prof. though his exams are not easy.just listen to him in class, and take good notes. you do not have to buy the book.everything on exam is from class notes.he is far better than many other hard profs. i will say take him.
This professor is extremely crucial with grading, if you get A- on tests, expect a B- as your final grade. Doesn't really use textbook but it is good for reference, class notes are heavily emphasized on during tests.
Don't take him. He basically decides grades when you walk through the door - he will give out a certain amount of As, Bs, etc. Test questions did not make sense - if I could do it over and take someone else, I would have. Don't WASTE your time taking him. His grading doesn't make sense at all - I think he plays favorites, personally.
I found him very fair and reasonable. Material is organized and clear. He tries to challenge students to bring out their best. But his curve in the end is okay. You need to work, but a high quality instructor.
extremely well organized and clear. you dont even need to buy the book. tests are straight from his notes so if you pay attention you will do great. also has entertaining lecture style. projects he gives are good experience and good way to boost grade.
I found his class to ber relatively easy (you just need to study his lecture notes). The case write ups are very time consuming and what he wants in the analysis has nothing to do with IT--its more of business strategy. But overall, an easy class.
Class is interesting
His lectures are very dry but I think that is the nature of the course... fair grader just have to keep up with the readings and I think participation helps.
He is very intelligent, knows the material well. However, his style of teaching is lecturing. For 100 minutes, he talks literally non-stop. Majority will find the course to be boring, and the Waren Case will make you sweat for a while. Then there's MYOB case. Try to find another professor for this class, if you are not truly passionate about AIS.
he is a good instructer. he knows the stuff and he is a smart man. BBA from Upenn wharton and 2 graduate degress from Stern. He tells a lot of real situation stuffs. All exam questions from his notes. don't need to buy a textbook. just take good notes, then no problem with exam. he also gives fair curve too.
Teaches exclusively via somewhat scattered lectures off the top of his head. Don't waste your money on buying the text! Overly technical lectures, not management focused. Exams were 2/3 multiple choice, 1/3 essay. The multiple choice questions were random, tricky, and badly written. Essays are much more fair.
material is boring but he does his best to keep it interesting. exams are tricky but come to every class and pay attention and you will be fine. he's interesting and definitely knows his stuff. great professor. highly recommend.
His lectures are all over the place and he jumps around a lot. No need to use the book at all. Has a few case studies which seem to be much more business based as opposed to CIS. If you take good notes during class you should do well.
Although, he's kind in grading, he lectures way too fast as if everyone is an IT major. Multiple Choices are extremely hard (asking technical terms that he's never taught) Essay questions are simple but only few people can get 100% out of them for who knows the reasons. Final is totally cumulative (40% of the multiple choice are from Midterm).
Not great at teaching. Lectures as if everyone worked in IT for the past 10 years and know what hes talking about. Lectures are random, jumps from topic to topic - isnt keen on answering questions. Midterm and Final are part mult choice, part essay. Mult choice are tricky, not from class notes OR the text....very technical and unclear questions.
Unorganized material, confused explanation and can only be understood by CIS majors. No Powerpoint but talk so fast and unclearly and no one follows. Case studies are too time consuming. Book is useless, don't waste money. Toughest questions you've ever seen in your lives. Stay away.
its not the the material was hard, its just that he didnt clarify what the test would be on. i remember him saying that the textbook was not important, but he definitely draws questions from it. if u get stuck with him, dont miss a class and definitely dont fall asleep in class because any bit of random info he says in class can show up on the test
Good lecturer, quite interesting. Case studies take up too much time out of class. Tests exceedingly tricky. Never really explained grading system.
well he is a nice professor with long lectures and one has to really pay attention to what he is saying. most of the stuff he says is important and shows up in the test. 2 MID-TERMS AND A FINAL . one waren case and one MYOB case doesnt take attendance but have to be in class in order to understand his lectures and get an A. work a bit & get an A
Talks to fast when he lectures, tests are hard and projects require a lot of work....do not take!
He's awful. Just mumbles when lectures and sits in the back when there are presentations. Classes are boring and you have to take notes like crazy because he doesn't use powerpoint. Too many case studies. Nobody ever gets the higest possible score in the essay questions. You won't learn much. Plus, he looks creepy. AVOID IT.
He talk way toooo fast and gives to much work. I worked my ass and still got a C+ if u want to bust your ass for a C take him. Otherwise STAY AWAY!
Talks waaaaaay to fast! Class is almost 2 hours, during that time all he does is speed talk, the entire 2 hrs! Try to keep up, i challenge you!
He's not a tough professor. He said the first day of class that if you put some effort in, you walk out with a B. The course consists of half case studies, one graded, and half lectures (2 exams). The key is to attend EVERY class. His exams are based on lectures, where he likes to throw in interesting stories. Don't even bother with the text.
Irrelevant case studies that you could have done in seventh grade and STILL not have learned anything from. The same lectures since 2001. Test questions very ambiguously written. This class, as taught by this prof, was a waste of time and money. A class that will cause you to rethink your decision to attend Baruch. Consider yourself warned.
He is the department head. He knows his stuff and is very clear on his lectures. Make sure you take good notes in the class as the exams are from the lecture notes. Also, most of his materials are not on the textbook.
Good guy.
Class was tedious.
As one of my first classes, he was a tough professor in that he lectures as if everyone has had some base knowledge of the subject, throwing around ambiguous terms and acronyms. You may feel lost often. However, if you attend EVERY class and take detailed notes, you will do just fine. Exams focus heavily on the lectures and are tough.
You will feel lost the entire class. Just copy down everything he says and memorize it and you will be fine. I got the notes from somebody a semester before me and memorized them and did alright. Case studies are awful.
Pretty good teacher. A bit boring at times, but not too difficult.
Fair grader and many funny anecdotes. Case studies can be boring but proper group preparation and not problem. Lectures can be very confusing as the course lacks structure - felt like it was out of order. Lost many times. Hate to say it but Wikipedia was extremely helpful for explanations of terms used in class. Did not read/use book.
Talks very fast. Not tech heavy. More about understanding CIS/MIS project scope than course title suggests. Tests can be tricky. Take good notes.
he is by far worst professor..this subject isn't even related to Acct. with the exception fot he two projects that u have to do..talks too fast..his exams do not match notes..boring as hell..can't explain to u the countless # of times i fell to sleep in his class. if u r wise enough stay away from him...
Knows his stuff. Provides many examples. I was never bored. Truly the best accounting class/section I've had so far. Tough course for someone not destined for accounting.
I am an excellent note taker and I still couldnt keep up with his lectures. He is very knowlegable, but he cannot translate it when teaching. Just dont let the workload overwhelm you. Do cases early and attend the help sessions. Take good notes, read the book and memorize everything. Its too much effort for minimal reward :/
two midterms and one final, two projects: waren case and MYOB.the porjects weren't hard and they have TA sessions to help you with the projects. Most people get 90s or even 100 on the porjects but you need to do it early , don't wait till the last minute. you don't need the textbook, just come to class, pay attention and take good notes.
attendance is not mandatory but you have to go to class, since all the exams are strictly based on his lectures. He doesnt teach he just talks about what he knows.he is very knowledgeable thou. you will have to 2 projects which are pretty easy, but his exams are very tricky, that means if you miss one word he said in class youll be screwed on the e
Worst prof I've had. Unorganized and he mumbles and rambles on with no rhyme or reason. Learned nothing from the class. Textbook was a waste of $. Class is complete waste of time and $ but unfortuntaly required. 95% of the students were grumbling all semester. I have heard that other professors who teach 9000 are equally terrible.
Such a sad way to approach such an interesting topic. Class seemed like two different parts stitched together (case studies - lecture). Professor is very knowledgeable, but shouldn't really be teaching. We got a sense that he had better things to do then be there. I got a decent grade, but left the class feeling like I wasted a lot of time.
He is a really nice guy, funny at times but he speaks very rapidly, and mumbles this makes note taking very difficult and since he does not follow the text you should make sure you form a study group just to compare notes..Also I did not like the fact that the casestudies involved a lot of work which was not even graded...Good luck
Palley is awesome. Different teaching style then most Profs, but I loved his class and style. Attendance is mandatory for success, he talks super fast, don't buy the book.
He is very unclear about class structure. No use of book, don?t buy it, WASTE OF MONEY. I don?t know where he gets his lectures from because its not in the book cant find anything online. So if you cant keep up with his fast pace of speaking you're screwed. Exams are from his lectures only, which can be tricky. GOOD LECTURE NOTES IS ESSENTIAL!!!
Run, Run Run
GREAT PROFESSOR - very easy, just take good notes and go over them few times before the test and you will do great. If you're a person that needs a book to study then dont take him. He tells funny stories and very knowledgeable.
This guy will talk your ear off. Talks fast. You need to take alot of notes in his class. 1 midterm and 1 final. 1 presentation on a case study. Exam is MC with 2 essays. Boring subject and easy to zone out in class when he blabs...
Forget the book and make sure you take good notes, or find someone who does, talks very fast. Concepts are broad and general, memorize your notes and you'd do fine on the exam. Tedious case study group work and presentations.
This is my favorite professor at Baruch so far. He takes a dry topic and makes it very interesting with his "commercials" and real life examples. The tests are very easy, all memorization. There are usually 2 essays on the test. He teaches you to not be too wordy and how to get your point across. I definitely recommend him.
This professor is awesome! his lectures are never boring, he always tells tons of jokes and real-life examples. Go to lectures - great notes are mandatory, the book is useless. Two cases - Waren and MYOB, make sure to do both perfect and get a 100 for each, this will really help to boost your grade. Overall, highly recommended.
All true. Reasonably not too boring. Life examples. No book is necessary, but take good notes. Fair grader. Good sense of humor. HOWEVER, 8 case study's, a couple of group presentations and 2 papers (besides 2 exams) will take a lot out of your life. Be prepared to devote a good chunk of your valuable time to those. Overall is was fun though.
1) You don't need the textbook; 2) Test questions are from the notes, take good notes and you will do well on the tests; 3) His stories are genuinely funny, and as long as you try, you'll do well
cool teacher, you just need to take good notes for the exams. the book is useless cuz his test questions are from his notes. 2 long projects but most ppl get in the high 90's on them. curves in the end
Like what others said, don't buy the textbook. Bring a recorder if English is not your second language. Take good notes.
Honestly, when he spoke about CIS, I had no idea what he was talking about. It?s a little hard to understand him sometimes. The exams were a little confusing. Lots of definitions. The cases were worth doing.
I think its a cop-out when teachers have their students spend every class going over case studies and not using this valuable time to actually teach the course. Otherwise I think he is a nice guy but the class needs more structure and teaching.
the prof. is a very "by the book" type of person. class is interesting; he has great stories to tell, which are usually very funny. tests are hard, but he curves. he almost doesn't use the textbook. lots of cases (2 actual submissions)
My favorite ACC teacher. He tells very interesting life stories that pertain to what you are learning. He's very knowledgeable and has alot of experience from the field. He doesn't really use the textbook, so be a good note taker. He knows how to hold your interest and is funny. Two lengthy case studies, but I found them useful.
very fair, caring, reasonable prof. the course is hard no matter who teaches it, but Prof Palley uses good real life examples to bring the material home. A+
Great professor! He makes the subject understandable. There are two midterms, two projects and final. Exams are based heavily on notes, make sure you have good ones. I'm very happy that I had him for this class
do the work and you will do well. exams not hard and all from class notes. do not buy the textbook. alot of group work involved through case studies. get someone in your group who knows IT and it will make your life a whole lot easier.
Tape record his classes! The final was directly from his notes. The midterm, however, was a combination of the book and his notes. The material consisted of hundreds of pages, so beware. Overall, good professor.
RECORD HIS LECTURE! Talks very fast! Lectures are kind of fun sometimes and he is a nice guy but it's not easy to absorb everything he says unless you have REALLY superior listening skills. (I'm more of a visual learner)The text and his lectures are sometimes confusing to relate. The textbook is very long so read ahead. Two projects (Warren,MYOB)
First exam had questions from the text book he never talked about so read the chapters he tells you to. Overall, exams are based mostly from the notes. You will learn something from the projects he gives you. The topics covered in class weren't really in my interest though.
exam questions are from both the text and notes. taking good notes is not enough. lecture may be hard to follow as he jumps from 1 example to another. overall i think he is a good guy (ez going and funny) , but this class is not an ez A
Poor professor, I learned next to nothing. He, arrived late every class and treated the whole thing like a chore.
He's never on time and spends a lot of class time talking about things that are not relevant to the subject. If you are interested in learining about IS I suggest using another Prof.
He's funny, laid-back, nice, smart.but the class is no joke.yes, pun intended.who in the world finds this topic interesting?i cant stand it.but he's cool. 2 graded cases,2 exams,10 min presentation. notes are important. GOTO CLASS. or find someone who had him before for notes compare. low voice, sit in the front. good luck.
Seems to lack current IT knowledge
Professor Palley is very knowledgeable about the topic of computer information systems. He doesn't really treat this course like an acct course. It is an intense course, so try to find someone else. Two midterms, a final, and 2 projects, all of which require significant work.
90% of the test comes from the lecture notes, make sure to write down everything he says. Mult choice + essays, not too difficult if you re-read your notes a few times. Curves final grade about 7 pts.
I would avoid him at all costs. He goes way too fast and his midterm and final were way harder than expected. Curved a good amount.
Not a very easy professor and doesnt care about his students. exams are hard and tricky. 2 midterms, 1 final and waren case. not recommended
Hi is an intelligent person, but a bad teacher. It is fun to listen to his jokes, but his tests are not easy. Tests are short, just about 20-25 questions, and if you do not answer some questions, it will lower your grade a lot.
He's not the easiest professor, but if you work hard, it is definitely possible to get an A. Write down EVERYTHING he says! His tests are primarily on his class notes. You should make sure you're familiar with everything he teaches in class .
HIs class is easier than other AIS classes because you don't have to read text but class note. Even though he explains many concepts, actually most questions in the test are the combination or application of them. What you must do is recording his lecture and making flawless note. You must finish Warren Case in early semester. Then you get an A.
I wish this class had a better structure to it. Wish he had PP slides. I was not too sure what he wanted us to know for the test and it counts for 35% of the grade. 3 case write ups, atleast one case presentation, and one test. He uses a random number generator to call up groups to discuss case studies so your group better know the case studies.
you must warned He's not as good as people say he is. The tests were designed in a way so that the students are kicked out of the accounting major. he act as if he cares about his student but makes his test to difficult. He will gives only a month to do the Warren case study, midterm 1 hard, midterm 2 even harder, final hardest!!! easy F !!
This professor is great. He doesn't use the textbook but that is beneficial to you because that means less studying. He gives great real life examples and his tests are easy as long as you attend class and write notes. Palley cares and is a very smart man. Definitely recommend this class.
Avoid this class only if you are not a good note taker. His exams are based on his long lectures. He puts me to sleep because he just talk for the whole 1 and a half hour. One tip is to record his lecture. When he said the exam is somewhat base on the textbook, it's not true at all. So don't waste your time reading the textbook.
Grade is based on the Waren case, 2 midterms, 1 final. Don't buy the textbook, the exams are almost never based on it. They are based on the lectures so it's best that you record every lecture he gives because he doesn't write much on the board. If you have and understand about 80-90% of the notes, you will do well on the exams.
Probably the easiest professor for this class, however you won't really learn much. Got an A in this class by writing everything he said and using that towards his class. No textbook is needed at all. This class just seemed pointless aside from the warren case which helped clarify a few processes. Take him for easy A, but you won't learn much.
Great Professor. Lectures and real life examples really bring life to the class. Just write down everything he says and you are in good shape for the exams. The textbook is good reading material but not really relevant to the exams except for a few questions. Do the warren case early and always come to class.
To many kids complain and those are the ones who mess around with their phones and don't attend class. This is college, come to class and listen. Very straight forward professor ,textbook is only used on first exam.2 midterms, waren, final . No tricks
Professor Michael likes to play words in his exam. Even though you record his lecture, the exam is still difficult. You should not only remember the conception which he teaches in the class, you also need to understand the real life example he gives in class. It's true he doesn't care about his students and he likes to avoid explaining his lecture.
You need to do extra study for his lecture. You can't even find some materials from Google which he teaches in class. Taking good notes or recording notes is not enough. The multiple choice question needs a comprehensive understanding of his lecture. His exam is relate to his lecture, but it's difficult to understand.
You need to take a big risk if you take his class. He returns the first exam very late, and the second middle term usually begins after the last day of withdraw. This means if you do bad in the first middle term, you should drop his class. He likes, so he can eliminate those students who will give his bad evaluation in the end of the semester.
The multiple choices are killers because they are misleading. You should not only study his lecture only. Need to do extra research after class. You will need to draw a dataflow diagram in first exam, some math problems in the second exam and several short essay questions in the final exam.
Amazing professor !!! In order to do well in this course you must record every lecture and listen to it at least twice. Do not memorize anything, try to understand it. I didn't listen to him for the first exam and I did bad, but honestly try to link it to real life situations and understand the material in great detail. Thank you Dr. M Palley
lazy professor. doesn't grade anything. lets kids do his grading. book is a complete waste of money. professor doesn't regulate cheating in his class. very late in handing back assignments. overall he is quite an annoyance.
Palley is intelligent but he doesn't believe so much in tests rather he believes people understand the material. He doesn't do any practice questions before the exam which means you have only the notes and book which he doesn't use. I already got D in my first exam I am hoping that I can study hard for the second and the final and bring my grade up
Definitely come to class and take good notes, as 90% of midterm and final are from his lectures. The MCQs on the exams are very straightforward. You'll also have to draw a dataflow diagram on the midterm (easy), and write 2 short essays for the final. Overall, pretty good professor. Team assignment was OK, just use the examples that he posts on BB.
Palley has tons of experience and stories which supplement the lecture so if you can remember examples, you'll do fine on the tests. However, he doesn't use the textbook so you shouldn't miss class. The warren case is a huge burden that doesnt belong in the class IMO but besides that, everything else is smooth sailing. easy tests, great guy!
The exams are almost strictly based off the lectures, therefore you MUST show up to every class and take really good notes. There are two midterm exams, a final and a Warren case. START THE WARREN CASE EARLY. The exams can be a little tricky as it requires you to remember exactly what was said in that example. Great guy but I would not take him
The lectures not based on any book, so there is no way to upgrade the knowledge. Lectures are also outdated. Lots of time is spent on learning trivial things no longer relevant in today's world. He does not give out the max # of A's he is allowed by the department. Does not work to benefit the student.
This class in general is just dumb. I don't blame the professor at all. Although his teaching style is horrible. No organization at all, constanly drifting in and out of things that have nothing to do with the exams. The worst part is the Waren case. 15% of the grade for a project that costs about 100$, and has absolutely no relevance to the course
His exams are strictly based off his boring lectures. He speaks fast, so u need to record his lectures and listen to them at least twice in order to do ok. He also gives questions from the book which he never used. FINAL IS HARD!
Unlike other accounting professors, he does not use powerpoint. That by itself is not bad but he also only writes the bare minimum on the board(only writes some terms but too lazy to write his definitions). Even when he writes on the board, it is often difficult to decipher due to his poor handwriting. Must record the lectures to do well on exams.
I'm in my senior year and he is the worst professor I have had at Baruch. His lectures are so boring, he talks way to fast so you need to record them. He also tells way to many stories and gets off topic. His tests are so hard, every class average on each test was very low. I wouldn't take him if you are trying to pass. 2 midterms, 1 final & warren
His style of teaching isn't for someone who relies on test banks to get through the accounting program at Baruch. His lectures span beyond the basics in which the book describes. Contrary to belief, reading the book is necessary for a basis of knowledge regarding this course! Record the lectures and do not get complacent! Excellent Teacher!!
Well respected Professor. Must record lectures and read the chapters in the textbook 3 times. Really have to understand everything in order to do well
Terrible. Boring lectures that dont relate to the exam. Horrible. Exams are long consists of Mc and written response. Final is a killer. The lecturers drag on and he goes on tangents often. Tells stories that dont relate to the course. I would not recommend him. Do not take! Gpa killer
His lectures aren't everyone's thing, but I personally found them to be interesting. But the exams are incredibly hard and sometimes have questions on material he didn't talk about in class (forcing textbook use). The final had material we weren't asked to cover. Take someone else.
Fantastic professor. Other profs - take note - this is how you teach! Really great lecturer - takes what I would consider fairly boring material and really makes it engaging and interesting with his fun stories. I learned a lot and he doesn't give unnecessary assignments. Midterm, final, easy and fast group project.
He is full of knowledge, and illustrates his points with many examples, some are entertaining. He imparts a great amount of material. If you care about Accountancy, and truly want to learn something - take this professor.
Over all he's a good professor, during his class his voice does tend to droll off if you aren't interested. his test are based off his lectures & Book chapters!!! (no test banks). He has some good/funny stories. people say "his test are easy" ( I've never experienced that!!!!). lots of information in lectures!!!! although, he is a caring professor.
Graded on 3 exams. His tests are not easy because they are based on the lectures and the textbook (more emphasis on lecture). I recommend recording the lectures because he speaks fast and you are unable to write down everything he says. Also, he does not write much on the board so you have to pay attention to everything he says in class.
He does not have any class materials. Does not use books or has any PowerPoint. No homework and assignments so you dont have any idea about questions. Doesnt give clear instructions about chapter to read. Its just two exam with 30% each and final with 40%. Dont take it
Only gives lectures orally and hardly provides any class materials to study from. Oral lectures in itself aren't an issue, but he speaks too quickly and the lectures in general are convoluted. Many topics in his lectures don't even appear anywhere on the assigned textbook, yet his exams are mainly based on them. Take someone else.
He does not have any class materials. 3 exams (30*2-Mid terms and 40 final). You got to record his lectures and listen carefully again because he speaks very fast. He is very strict with exams sittings and brings more exam invigilators. You rarely learn anything related to accounting. He is old fashioned.
While you don't need the textbook with Prof. Palley, get ready for long lectures. He pretty much talks the entire class, and doesn't engage students much if at all. He knows his stuff however, all you need to do it go to class and take notes. The exams can be difficult, so again MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLASS, LISTEN WELL AND TAKE GOOD NOTES LOL
Took him for CIS 2200, favorite class of the semester. The lectures were super informative and the prof is very relaxed, knows what he's talking about. On that note, to do well you HAVE to take good notes from all his lectures. You can guess the textbook questions. SAM, SONA survey, 2 easy quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 non-cumul final. Curves at the end.
Although the professor himself is a nice guy and his jokes are funny, he does like to talk a lot, sometimes too much. His in-person lectures are no joke and if you don't keep up, you will be lost in 2 minutes. The tests are also nothing like his lectures. But overall from what I've heard, could've been worse.
I saw the bad ratings but still took the class as I had no options. It was a Hybrid class and at times he would take attendance. His lectures were based on his experience and more importantly were in depth. The quizzes were hard and I used to get low grades but the midterm and finals were pretty easy. I would recommend taking him for a GPA boost.
He's great, sometimes tends to get off topic with stories from his previous jobs to which I believe are interesting. Quizzes and final are on WileyPlus and are based off of the textbook, so read from it. One excel and one access project (I recommend using Windows, Access does not work unless you use the virtual desk).
While the professor isnt bad at teaching, the general structure/schedule for the class makes it annoying to manage with. During the first half of the semester, most of the work is SAM and a project but after the midterm, there are chapter quizzes every class, he does remind you to review chapters before this but it does become difficult to manage.
professor is passionate about what he teaches.teaches vba very well but the class structure doesn't match with his lectures. The first half is vba and the quizzes are three questions so it's hard to keep a high average up. Second half of class is the textbook and he doesn't follow the textbook even though the rest of the quizzes are textbook heavy
Took this class in hybrid mode for the spring semester. Easy class and he knows his stuff! Two group projects. 1 midterm and 1 final. Many quizzes but they are easy short multiple choice. Recommend.
1 group excel project, and graded based off of MIS, VBA, and Excel quizzes, plus the midterm, and final. overall the class is not that bad, its a hybrid schedule, but he do be yapping. there isnt much participation, just him yapping.
Professor can be a bit long-winded, but his lectures are engaging. Quizzes are tricky, so stay on top of the textbook. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for preparing for exams. Overall, a manageable class if you put in the work.
Good lectures but read the textbook! The tests and quiz come from the stories and examples in the text book. He's super nice and interesting but if you don't read the test will take a long time and you have a time limit and so many questions. The excel quizzes come from the lectures so pay attention.
This professor's lectures were extremely boring-he just read straight from the textbook, and it was hard to stay focused; most of the class was asleep. On top of that, I was dealing with some really difficult circumstances, when I reached out for understanding or flexibility, he said that he could not do anything and need have to show up for class.
HORRIBLE!! Teaches in like two seconds. He made the final exam in person on paper while everything else was online . It was a total mess
I want to give him a negative rating. The exams are in person, although all quizzes are online. He has a camera on the ceiling to record your movements and a proctor walking around. The final was 40 qs in 1 hour. If you like working extra hard for your grade, then he is perfect for you!
