he is a pretty good teacher. you just got to do your papers with some knowledge of form and organization. read what you have to read and understand it and this class is a breeze

Awesome guy. Very funny, and is not boring. If you do the reading, write all the papers, and participate in class, then you're on the right path for an A in this class :)

He was very easy. I managed to get a B in his class and only because I was slacked off a little on the paper. He was fairly new when Itook him. He takes the time before and after class if you need help on your paper or just in general. I really recommend him! He's very funny and awesome too!

he is a good teacher in explaining things. he can explain everything so that everyone gets it. he is a really hard grader so watch out because he is very tough on it.

Highly recommended for those of us who actually attend Pierce to learn. 60% of the grade in this class depends on your writing, and he does not just hand out good grades on essays. He does however do everything in his power to bring you to the point where you can earn A's on them. A+ teacher.

Schilf is a great techer! I wish he taught more classes at Pierce. If you actually want to learn something, take him. Great lectures. His English 28 class is great too! if you need to take 28, take it from him, so you can learn grammar and structure well. He gives a good amount of work. Very good!

he is a good teacher. He is clear in his lectures. He grades fairly. If I were to have tried a bit harder I would have gotten and A. Its not the easiest class but if you pay attention and try then you will get and A or B.

He seems very hard at first, but then you will be getting it. He handed out in class essay's topics a week before we were going to take it. Nice guy and great lectures. Learned a lot, hard grader though.

He gives you all the material you need for your writing. He grades your 1st & 2nd essay very hard. Then he will get easier. He hands out all topics ahead. Very helpful. He is very young and awesome guy, Hottt ! Not easy A, but worth to take it.

A very Very hard teacher.. teaches good but tooooo picky on grammar... come on get a life.. if you like english you'll start hating it!!!! yes, you first notice that he is hot! but then as the semester goes on you see that his looks match his personality. some people might think that he is a hard grader, but i think it's just because they think the class is hard. english isn't a hard class people. just pay attention and do the work and you'll get an A!

Prof. Schilf is a very good teacher!! he does all he can to make sure you understand everything. He's not the easiest grader but remember this class doesn't count.. hes only helping you get ready for english 101. I suggest you take him. (hes hot)

he is a very hard teacher but he will teach you alot and really prepare you for english 101. he is very funny and his class is intresting he makes you want to try harder. also hes really nice to look at...can't go wrong.

He definately is hot. I suppose I'm the only one that sees a Pippin look-alike in him...But, I digress. Awesome guy. He is not that tough of a grader, actually. He is fair, I'd say. Prof. Schilf is SO helpful, though. Any of his classes shouldn't be a problem at all. He is fantastic.

He keeps the class interesting, and makes English a personal experience. I can honestly say I looked forward to his class more than all the rest. It was therapeutic,100% enjoyable, 100% of the time!

He was cute. Not hott.Class was canceled twice the semester, shouldn't miss class or be late. Helpful during office hours. Participate in class, stay on top of reading & you should do fine. If you are not good with grammar, prep yourself before the class begins, it will destroy your grade if you cannot learn grammar :(

HE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO WRITE. HARD CLASS BUT WORTH THE EFFORT. HE IS HELPFUL IF YOU ASK HIM. HE GRADES HARD, BUT IS FAIR. BE PREPARED FOR A LOT OF ESSAYS AND READING AS WELL AS A RESEARCH PAPER.

Schilf is hard but very helpful. You show him that you are trying and want to pass the class and he will work with you to improve. He also grades very hard on everything that you hand in (5 essays and 1 research paper), but over all you learn a lot and hes a good teacher. BUT HE IS HARD LIKE I SAID.

Even if you do not manage an A in the class, you learn how to write a good paper, without being confined to strict essay structures. He is open-minded with your opinions and ideas, as long as you can back yourself up. Hes a hard grader, but not unreasonably so.

A great teacher. He taught basic grammar skills again but it was a really helpful recap especially for me. Had 3 in class essays and 3 take home plus quizzed. Hard grader, but I did as he said, I got an A in the end. He uses the point system so it's easier to get As by making up on other areas. Very enjoyable.

A really great teacher. Just all around a great guy. I got an A in the class, but not because he was easy! If you work hard, come to class, and pay attention, it isn't difficult to get a good grade. He's very willing to help, and clearly loves what he teaches. I'd take his class again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic teacher whose only problem is that he lets students take advantage of him. Occassionally he let things slip but it was never malicious, only a little careless. Otherwise, loved the class, and the fact that he's incredibly open-minded is a HUGE plus.

Really nice guy. Gives great feedback on essays. Wants students to be original in their writings. Would take him again if I could. 5 Essays in total, 2 in class. All essays only 3-4 pages. Highly recommend!!!

Great teacher and very approachable. 5 essays total - 3 at-home essays and 2 in-class essays. Class discussions with student participation was a must, and he had very few lectures. If I had to take another English class, I would definitely take him again. You earn the grade you deserve.

I am so taking English 101 with him. Notes are easy. Essays are easy if you can learn from your mistakes. Likes to talk about his family. He is Awesome and very cool.

Amazing teacher, tells great story's that compliment the subject of whatever the conversation is about. Loves creativity over conventional writing, which I think is a breath of fresh air to the old ways of standard writing. Always looking to help improve the students! Great help!

Really didn't like him. Really tough grader. Don't buy the text book. Totally useless. No homework so your grade depends on your essays. Expects you to know everything about writing already. Pretty much a "creative" writing course. He's always late, and misses massive classes. Arrogant and narcosistic.

Really enjoyed this class- he might be particular about the way that he wants things but hes pretty clear on that. If you LISTEN to what he's saying- if you put in the work youll get good grades. Got A's on every essay I did in the class. Textbook is only used on really one assignment. Ask for help- he'll give it to you!

He's awesome and not terrible to look at ;] I stayed in his class for two weeks without being added and finally he made my day and gave me an add card. It's mostly essay writing but he is clear about what he wants to see. Laid back and funny. Take him!

This is not an easy course, however, Schilf is the best english professor in my opinion. this is a writing class so expect to write essays. most are 3 pages long. final is a research paper. 6 pages. and the final is a book analysis on the great gatsby which you will have to read. i HATE reading but this book is great. dont be lazy. attd is a must.

Dr Schilf is a great English professor. He will let you know exactly what he expects you to do and how you should write. His classes are aimed not only to teach you to write properly, but also to think critically. Im grateful to get to learn so much. Would recommend everyone taking him.

Alright so this professor expects you to write brilliant essays. You CANNOT BS with him! He is very straightforward, but he is an amazing professor. His lectures were so interesting and he is very knowledgeable. I would recommend taking him IF and only if you are a really good ESSAY writer, because essays are the bulk of your grade!

Yes, he is a tough grader, but at the end, it was not bad at all. The outlines that he wants are kind of confusing, so make sure ask him for more details on how does he want it. ALWAYS ask a question for more clarification. Also, there are three books, but we didn't use one book just once :/ and most of the short story have PDF online.

I remember taking this professor pretty chill guy I actually got to learn English from him unlike my high school teachers that I had back then they didn't teach me squat.

His lectures and assignments makes you work on being a better writer and critical thinker. His lectures are interesting and the books we have read are interesting too. When it comes to essays, just make sure to follow the format he gives and follow the feedback that he (and the other students) give and you'll be alright.

TOUGH GRADER! He will give you enough feed back so that you can improve yourself throughout the semester.

had him for english 21! He was amazing! yes he is a tough grader on grammar but it really teaches you how to improve your grammar. He reviewed before every test to make sure we understood and gave us answers to things that were not understood in the class. Yes he is sometimes all over the place but its all related to english!

Amazing professor. His lectures (although sometimes steered off topic, who cares anyways) were always interesting. This man actually managed to turn a dull subject into something worth listening to. This doesn't mean it's a breeze. As long as you read, pay attention in class, and turn in work, getting a solid B will be completely and utterly simple

Excellent teacher. If you do the assignments and participate you'll be totally fine. He does give extra credit if you show good workmanship on your assignments. Participate! He's a tough grader but he's FAIR! I didn't get very good grades on my essays but my workmanship was what got me the grade I wanted. He does go off track sometimes tho.

Get ready to read A LOT. Amazing lectures and LOTS of homework.

To be honest, Professor Schilf has got to be one of the best professors I've had this past semester. While he does assign a lot of homework (assigned one day, due the next), it's very straightforward and clear; no surprises. He's very thorough in his lectures and will always clarify any questions about the assignments. I would highly recommend!

Excellent Professor! May seem hard at first but you will get used to what he expects from you. do the homework and listen to his criteria for the essays and you will be fine.

The best english professor i've ever had. Enjoyed his class a lot. If you work hard, he'll take note of it and help you improve your grade. Only about 3-5 out of 30 students will get an A. I use to hate english classes; but loved this one. Miss his off-topic, but interesting, lectures and humor.

English is my strong subject, but I usually find english not ever challenging and sometimes dry or boring. No not this one. Lots of good humor during his lectures and he really strives to see an improvement in all his students. Loved this english class! Just give a hoot and a he will see that

As an English major I pretty much love all of my english professors, but he was especially cool. He gives great feedback is great at explaining things and makes you think a lot, which most people don't like, but I do so I appreciated it.

He is awesome. I had him for 101, and he has certain expectations he wants you to reach. Go to his office hours his feedbacks are amazing.

I took his English 21 class. Amazing professor. He gave a lot of materials and explained them in a way that it was easy to understand. The went through every step of writing essays. Cares about his students.

Schilf was awesome. He was so laid back and super funny. hes kind of a tough grader, but he makes sure you know what he wants from each assignment. Plus he gives good feed back. Take him you wont regret it.

Had him for a winter semester. Schilf is a great teacher and I vibe with this guy on a spiritual level. He has multiple opportunities for extra credit. He has great analysis and I genuinely enjoyed going to his lectures. However he holds everyone to the same standards and you wont get very much pity if English is your second language.

Seriously the best prof at pierce. He's 10000% clear on what he wants from you. Not tough class if you just listen to what he wants & replicate it. He gives you so many options for your papers. Participate when you can (he won't ever call you out though). He's extremely smart, interesting, funny, and chill! 10/10 would take him again.

Professor Schilf is an outstanding educator. He genuinely cares about his job and his students. He is a tough grader but makes it extremely clear on what he expects from his students. Hard work pays off in this class. His quality of education is is extremely high and I would recommend this class to anyone.

Honestly, if you're a competent writer, then you'll pass easily. If you can write somewhat coherently and well, then you have a good shot at an A. Lectures a lot, but he's a pretty funny guy. You just have to be good at pacing yourself because we did write about 4 essays in the last 2 months. Only read 1 book and watched 1 movie. Easy grader.

By far my favorite professor. The lecture is engaging and exciting, as well as interesting, and the homework is also somewhat fun to do. Lots of reading, but it is expected in an English class. Gives great feedback and really cares about the students. Just don't skip a day of class or else you will definitely miss something.

The harshest grading in this class comes from peers. This is, first and foremost, a writing course; it goes without saying that in order to pass, you need to read the material. Minimal effort is required to achieve an "A." Prof. Schilf gives detailed explanations of each graded assignment. It's your responsibility to make any needed adjustments.

Listen to his lectures. He makes everything that he wants very clear. Do exactly what he tells you to do, exactly how he tells you to do it, and you will easily earn an A. His feedback is very helpful, so listen to it. Really good teacher overall.

10/10 professor if you're taking English 101, be prepared to read a lot and write analytical essays. very good feedback and extremely accessible outside of class. He will help you succeed if you ask for help. Currently my class is hybrid, so we watch lectures online and optional to show up to in person class. Great Prof, would take again.

Very nice and is extremely available to help should you have any questions. Took him for 101 as well however i got a B, once i got used to his method of teaching it was all very clear and easy to see what he wanted you to write.

Passing the class should be easy if you put in effort on your essays and understand his grading rubrics. He provides sources to help you on the research papers you must write like lectures and sample essays. His assignments help you on your research papers. He responds to emails quickly and is an understanding professor.

His class included mostly of research papers and assignments to help with the research papers. Provides students with example papers to help you work on your essay. Responded quickly to emails and was overall helpful and wanted you to succeed in his class. With all the material he gives, it's a class you can pass you just have to put in effort.

I loved prof Schilf. He was really understanding and wanted to work with you to help you succeed. He gave great feedback and always made me feel good about my work. Papers weren't a total snooze to write because he lets you be creative. Had to read 2 books, didn't read either but, still got an A, so do with that what you will.
