Take him! Great experience and very approachable.
Professor Alcazar was witty, adept and fair. He kept the class intrigued by providing us with his stories of real life experience in the criminal justice field. His lectures were informative and I can truly say I learned a lot from taking his class. I definitiely would recommend taking his class.
Professor Alcazar is an excellent instructor. Very engaging, a serious and lighthearted approach at the same time. You should definitely take his class.
In a word, awesome!
Funny with lots of investigative experience! Really cares about his students!Very approachable.
Very helpful and funny! Very nice man.
This is one prof that says it like it is! I never wanted to become more a police officer than after taking his class. Real info and he really cares that you succeed.
One of the coolest Prof. You will ever meet. Really easy class as he makes his reviews really clear. Recommend this class to anyone who wants a chill Professor !
He's one of the best professor's I've had. I had him for an 8am and lectures and classes were so interesting I actually made it to every single class, which were 3 hours. Definitely take him if you have the option.
He is one of the best professors at John Jay hands down! He is also a NYPD Detective so his classes are very interesting because of his law enforcement experience.
Great Professor, took this class at 8am, he managed to keep the class awake and interested so early. Gives real life advice and lesson to help you understand the course better. Easy to talk too, couldn't have had a better professor. Take him!!
The hardest thing about this class was waking up so early. 8am classes are not for every professor. This is the second guy who I feel really enthusiastic about his lectures so early. He speaks out of his own experience in the PD. 2 quizzes, a mid and final. He tells you all you need to know for the tests. Will change your mind a bit about cops.
Great guy! He feels very passionate about the course. Class starts at 8am and he is full of energy. His voice is vibrant and helps to keep everyone awake. But, more importantly, he makes the class interesting.
This professor has been my favorite professor and increases my interests in the criminal justice field more and more each day. He is very helpful and very motivating. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in the criminal justice field.
Professor Alcazar is the best! He restored my interest in Police Studies because other classes were ruining my strong desire to learn more about the subject. Drama isn't exactly my cup of tea but I looked forward to Professor Alcazar's class every week. Thank you! I hope to take another of his classes soon.
Without a doubt one of the best professors i have had in college. He's a great professor but he's also a great human being. He gives 2 quizzes, one before the midterm and one before the final. Both quizzes are 10 questions each and you will see those exact questions again... wink wink. Show up to class, participate a bit and you'll get an A!
One of the best and most knowledgeable professors I've had thus far! Wouldn't mind taking a few more course if he's teaching.
Professor Alcazar is a excellent professor , he goes out of his way to thoroughly and clearly explain the class material. Many professors teach in simple manner with loads of information but he better explains the material through real life scenarios.
The professor is very professional but still very friendly and approachable. The lessons were very detailed and the whole class would be involved in discussions. It was a very good class and the professor had everything to do with it.
I recommend for anybody who attends John Jay to take any class that this professor is teaching he is very enthusiastic and professional and he makes morning classes a pleasure to be in he shares life experiences he had on the job with a bit of humor included to every story to keep the class awake.
Professor Alcazar is a really good teacher, He has good power points, but he teaches his classes from his life experiences. so if there was something we didnt get he would explain it in a everyday situation, so the whole class gets it. ALL TEACHERS SHOULD BE LIKE THIS GUY...
Professor Alcazar has an incredible ability to make an 8:00am double length class as exhilarating and interesting as his is. While using real world experience in explaining class materials, Professor Alcazar gives firsthand experience and by doing so, makes class interesting while giving us a taste at what a future in law enforcement will entail.
Professor Michael is the type of instructor every college student wants to have. Not only he knows how to teach a class but he also knows how to keep it interesting, which makes the best learning experience.
I never had a lecture class like this before. He's such a good speaker with a lot of personality. I learned a lot
His lectures are the AMAZING! His work is a pleasure to do! The BEST PROFESSOR I EVER had out of all my time in college! Everything is straight forward and organized! TAKE HI YOU WON'T REGET IT!! FAIR GRADER! LOVE HIM! HILARIOUS, ENTERTAINING , NO HOMEWORK, 2 to 3 quizzes only if students need it to boost their grade. Just the FREAKING THE BESTTT!
Amazing professor! Show up to his class take notes and pay attention to everything he says is going to be on the test !Very intelligent and cares about his students like theyre his own children! He is an easy A! Show up, two quizzes a midterm and final! Lowest quiz is dropped and spoon feeds you the answers to the midterm and final.
This detective-professor is extremely intelligent in his field as he breaks down his lectures by telling his stories on duty, making it simple for us to understand. Quiz questions are reused on the midterm and final. As long you study, you will do well. Very fair grader. The best!
Professor Alcazar is an amazing professor. His lessons are very well planned out and the type of energy this man has at 8am is just outstanding. He's definitely approachable and has inspired me even more to pursue the line of policing as an NYPD officer.
Loved this professor! Makes learning fun, and his experience stories make the class even better.
Never slept in his class once even though it was an 8 am class. Hilarious and engaging. Cuts out irrelevant subjects and focuses on important subjects. Infuses first hand experiences with lessons and is such a nice man. 10/10 would take again forever.
This professor has to be hands down the best professor in John Jay! He never wants to see any of his students fail and he treats us like his own kids. My favorite professor
Take his class you'll want to kiss his ass cause he is amazing
I wouldn't change anything about this professor. All professors should be like him. His test are hard, but if you study and pay attention, you will do well.
His lesson plans are great, he teaches us through personal experience and has a very strong character. He speaks loud enough to keep us going and paying attention since its a 8am class.
Professor Alcazar is hands down the best. He is energetic and hilarious
I believe he is literary the best professor! Cares about his students and knows people really well. Love him
Amazing professor! I would take him over, over, and over again. Lesssons are very interesting and you learn something new each and everyday. Great enthusiasm to teach and gets everyone to participate and be a part of the lesson as well. Makes it fun to come to class and learn.
Well-respected professor. Provides us not only with textbook information but gives us good life advice. He is able to make the topic of police studies more relatable and uses his own personal experiences as a way to give us a better understanding of the topic.
Theres a lot that comes out of him, but I manage to take it all in. Really the best in everything he does.
He is a great example of what a true professor should be, he has no favorites, he treats everyone with the same acknowledgement and respect. He engages his students from the beginning of the class until the end. I enjoyed the class a lot. He is a professional, knowledgable professor who knows how to convey his lessons with wit, humor and facts!
Hes the best professor I had ! I had no homework through out the entire semester. Study and listen during lectures for the two quizzes , midterm and final. Take him !!
This professor was easy going. Gave no homework. Only gave out two quizzes and was used for a midterm and for our final.
OMG i love him!!! I wish i could take this class over and over. He always made lectures so much fun, especially with his stories. He has so many since he is a police officer and is in different departments. I could listen to him for hours. Definitely take this class if you could !!
Prof. Alcazar is one of the funniest and caring professors here at JJay. He makes the class fun and laugh which is a good thing because not all professors do that. But he is a professor who truly cares about his students and will help in anyway he can. He comes from an NYPD background and relates his lectures on it. I would take him again if I can.
I took this as a hybrid class. I did well on the discussion boards, fair on the quizzes and got a 100 on the final research paper. I still ended up with a B, so good luck to whoever decides to take him.
Professor Alcazar's online Police Management course was an educational and interesting course. When I was taking my online test, my browser quit the exam unexpectedly, however, he was extremely understanding and opened the test for me again. Great course and I wish I had more time to get to know him and his background.
Professor Alcazar is the best hands down. I am not a morning person but his morning classes were not boring. You have to participate in class. Trust me if you study, you will definitely pass his class. His lectures are amazing and his stories even make it easier to remember most of the things you've learned. Take him
Professor Alcazar is the best,I will take him anytime, any day. His lectures are amazing but make sure you dont miss his midterm unless you have a very tangible reason. Study and I bet you will pass.
Professor Alcazar is honestly great in the field of Police Science. By and large, he made this course during the summer an absolute breeze, from the discussions to the midterm and final. COMPLETELY STRESS FREE! I recommend for anyone to take him, hes got wholesome knowledge, and he is willing to work with you along the way. Dont sweat it!
This professor was a very fair grader, show some effort and interest and you will do well. I took a 3 week online summer course and there was a lot of work crammed into that time due to it being an accelerated course but he made it hands on and enjoyable. Very relatable material to study. Enjoyed the course
Professor Alcazar is amazing. He gives it to you straight and is no nonsense when it comes to the grades. Ensure you are there for the midterm and the final or have a legitimate excuse for not being there. If you study even a little bit, you should get an A. You'll get the grade you deserve based on the work you do.
Horrible professor, He assigns so much work its hard to keep up. He is not straight forward with what he want you to do, you kind of have to figure it out yourself and scroll around through your blackboard. He does not help you or even try to help you pass his class he will just withdraw you if he thinks youre not able to keep up in his class.
Professor Alcazar was my first professor at John Jay. Super funny, laid back, told the best stories, and took a lot of stress out of school for me. Just show up, do the work, pay attention and you'll be good.
Professor Alcazar is easily the best professor at John Jay. His knowledge of the topic is second to none. His experience and stories in the field of policing would have you interested for days. His class is the reason I applied for the NYPD in the first place. Sadly 350 characters is not enough for me to tell you how amazing this class is.
One of the best professors Ive ever had, wonderful lessons very easy to keep up with. Defensively recommend taking him.
Shown up and you good. Class is basically conversations that have to do the the lesson but they are really fun and never feel forced so participation is easy and usually fun. Took him twice and was the one class Id look forward to each week. If he has and open class take it you wont regret it. Reviews before all test also.
Just an all around amazing guy
Class was fun and learned a lot regarding patrol functions. Also the professor understood it was an early class and kept everyone actively engaged which was helpful.
Professor Alcazar is hands down the best professor at John Jay, I cannot stress this enough!!!! Very inspirational. His lectures are always informative especially when sharing real life experiences to further explain the topic of police studies. He truly cares about the success of his students. I highly recommend taking any/all of his courses!!!
I had class with P. Alcazar 3 times so you can trust that this rating is credible. The class is very straight-forward, since the 1st day we learn about the importance of having individual initiative as a core quality for police work or any career that you pursue. That's one of the greatest lesson I have learned in my college experience! Funny EasyA
Professor Alcazar is the best in his field, bringing in knowledge from his time in the force to make the class easy to understand and interesting. Never a dull moment in class as he makes it fun to learn and participate. Participation is big so dont go in to just sit in the back quietly. Hes super cool but dont slack off on the work.
Weekly discussion board and a 12 page paper on a topic of youre choice.
Professor Alcazar is one of the best professors that I've had. He will make sure that you pass the class. As long as you do the work you'll get an A. During the semester there was only 2 quizes, a midterm and the final. The only homework was a weekly discussion board, a research proposal and a final research paper. Easiest class ever.
Professor Alcazar is a great professor and knows his material. Since this class was during a pandemic the assignments were easy. Weekly 4 question assignments, 2 quizzes, a midterm exam and final exam. Every answer can be found in the textbook which made it easy. Professor Alcazar is very understanding and will make sure you pass. Take him.
Great professor. He is inspiring, encouraging, and just an awesome professor youll ever meet. You must participate in his class. He has tons of experience on law enforcement and teaching.
Took him last year when covid interrupted our semester. Great professor, he's so real and straight up, funny guy, class material can be boring and he knows that so he tries to switch it up. His personality and stories alone make this a great class so not sure how asynchronous would be. Really helpful especially if you want to be NYPD.
Funny. Be prepared to read. One midterm and one final. Likes class participation. Will take again next semester.
Professor Alcazar is one of the best professors Ive had at John Jay so far. He tells a lot of interesting stories about his career (hes retired now) and it keeps you engaged. He gives easy quizzes on blackboard based on readings/powerpoints he provides and assigns weekly assignments for homework that consists of a couple questions.
It's a stress free class if you have him as professor. 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, weekly 3 questions multiple choices assignment.
Was a really great professor to have. In the classroom his lectures never felt like they were dry and he was really engaging. The class work was straightforward and really depends on you doing the work which is not bad at all. Definitely would take again!
Love love LOVE this Professor. So funny, he is a big talker. I wish I could take him again! The class was unfortunately cut short, but the time spent with him was inspirational. Changed my perspective on a lot of ideas.
He is very energetic and lovely and makes education fun to the point where you are interested in it. He's straight forward on reality and isn't afraid to tell you the truth, which I really like.
Professor is by far the best professor at John Jay. The materials he teaches is to prepare you for your 10-12 page research paper. He knows this class is tough and is boring, so he makes it less boring by telling us stories about his time in the NYPD. Former NYPD detective. All of the exams are online, and all of the materials are on blackboard.
Hes a great professor, For this class you will be required to write a 12 to 15 page minimum. with his examples and guidelines it is easy. he gives a quiz for each chapter but are pretty easy. the lectures are boring but he makes them interesting and entertaining. this class is tough but he tries to make it easier for us. Highly recommend.
I love his classes. This is the second class I have taken with him.
Authoritarian buffoon. Not qualified to teach.
A truly difficult class but he made it palatable. The course is extremely difficult! My second time taking it (From another professor). It's required for my degree. He explained difficult concepts. A very patient man. I highly recommend you take him! Very caring.
Always looks out for his students. Funny and knowledgeable.
Finish my Junior year and going into my Senior year. This class is by far the most easy class I have ever taken - and it is fully online! Literally 1 quiz a week (usually 3 questions) and all answers are found in the textbook. A few quizes/midterm/final, but nothing too hard. You cannot fail or get a bad grade unless you try to fail. 1000/100. A+
Literally just weekly, 3-question quizzes based on the textbook. The midterm and final are based on previous questions. You shouldn't get anything less than an A in this class!
Prof. Alcazar is straightforward. No makeup assignments, no late work accepted, no excuses. But if you stay on point, put in the effort, grading is totally fair. He's great with communication. Emails get answered quickly. He always post reminders on Brightspace about quizzes, exams. No surprises, just do your part and don't sleep on the deadlines.
If you've ever wanted to experience the academic equivalent of bootcamp with zero provisions for life's curveballs, look no further. Runs his class like a Swiss train schedule—miss it and you're left on the tracks, no refunds!
Very nice man and very accommodating.
