ok, buy, made the material way harder than it needed to be
Cool guy and will work with you not against you

Without a doubt, the easiest grade I've made at the university in a while. For the most part, a student would need to learn most of the material on his own. He puts more emphasis on learning than actual grades and will assign grades on what you learn
I like the way he teaches, and he tries anything to help your grade. He picks problems from the book for the test, which sounds easy, but if he made up the problems himself, the tests might cover what we learned better.
His emphasis is more on that you know how to do the problems. He does expect you to know automatically remember how to do problems immediately. I totally respect this method. He does not try to make students feel stupid.
Excellent teacher. Explains things very clearly and helps outside of class. Not boring either...
very good teacher, but he goes through the chapters too fast. There are so many concepts to learn that I found it difficult to keep up. Still, he was very nice and helped me out of class. Nice person too!
He's very funny. Writes 2 pages of notes on the board and tells stories and blonde jokes until you're done copying. Easy quizzes, even if you don't do the homework.
First math class I've ever understood.
I like him okay as a person, but the I've dicided to join Stphehn Hawking in his personal vendetta against the branch of Calculus.
Great Teacher
He is a really fun professor that tells alot of jokes that are actually funny. The main problem with this class is that he is in the process of turning the class into an online class. Good class if retaking calc II, bad class for first time around.
He is one of the best math teacher at TTU. very nice and his class is not boring. take him.
If I hadn't already had Cal II I would not understand him at all, he doesn't teach clearly AT ALL!! However, he gives a million grades so it's hard to do too badly in there and you can do all your hw and quizzes with other people.
Clear, Fun guy, never minds helping out. encourages questions.
Allen is good about working with you on your grade. But as far as teaching, he does not explain well at all.
I did not gain what I had hoped from this course.
He is not a very clear teacher, but he tells funny jokes and grades fairly easily. The quizzes are online, so there are only 3 tests in class. poop
Allen is a nice guy and does his best to get the matierial to you. The material isn't easy, so his lectures aren't so clear. His quizes are straight from HW and he does his best to help you get a good grade! Do your homework and reviews and you'll do great!
not very clear AT ALL!! he gets off of subject sooooo easy, but he does his best to help you get a good grade. all the quizzes are from h/w online, pretty hard to fail a quiz
He does a horrible job explaining the material. if i hadnt has stats in high school, i would have been lost. however, he is super helpful about making up quizzes and tests.
Only take him if you know how to teach yourself math! He is a really nice guy but he is no teacher. He knows his material, but can't get it down to your level. His tests are hard and sometimes he can be a jerk! I wouldnt take him!
Dr. Allen is awesome. He helped me alot in cal, and i learned that he was the original FSAE advisor. He's awesome and willing to work with you. His quizes are rough, but if you think about them and use the theorems that you have in the book you will do fine!
GREAT PROFESSOR. I think if you HONESTLY do your part of the classroom work you will do great. On the other hand, if you don't want to take the time to study the ideas he presents then you'll get what you deserve. Dr. Allen is always willing to help, and even goes out of his way if he can to be sure that you understand. Lazy people-go elsewhere.
He was a great story-teller. I wish he had put that enthusiasm into teaching math.
Allen's a great guy that helps you with all your school stuff, not even just math. He does get off subject easily, but that's better for me because otherwise I'd fall asleep. Calc's not an easy class so don't blame him if you have to study an hour a night to pass.
He's really and listens and tries to explain, but lately i just haven't understood, i should study more so mostly it's my fault
Dr. Allen is an exellent teacher. I wish I could have him for all of my math classes here at Tech. He is very easy to understand and he's very willing to help his students. He also has a way of making class interesting. I found his class to be fairly easy, but I had Calculus in high school. Take Dr. Allen. You won't be sorry.
very helpful and willing to work with you; doesn't overweight tests; very funny guy and enjoyable to be in his class; very knowledgable and often able to tie examples into your actual major/area of interest
Statistics is a very difficult subject on its own, and Dr. Allen does a decent job teaching the material. The notes that he gives you are very clear and easy to follow, but the test are WAY TOO LONG!! Most people never finished the tests in the 55-minute period. If his test were shorter, his class would be very easy to get through.
He rocks.
Great teacher, he understands the material and can teach you how to understand it also. I'm probably still going to fail the class but only b/c I suc at Calculus and, of course it requires more time than I've been giving. I'd definatly recommend him, I really don't think I could have asked for a better Calculus teacher this semester.
Holy **** his test were hard...he does give curves on his test but man you better know every little bit of material..he flies through the class and is done a week or two before the other classes..I had friends in Thurman's class..our stuff looked like rocket science compared to there's..if you really want a challenge then take allen. i wouldnt tho
His tests are not too tough if you work practice problems in each chapter. Online quizzes are easy with a solutions manual; problems come from the book. Lectures are not the clearest. I would take him again only because i know how his tests work now. First test is HARD!
Teaches at a reasonable pace and tells a quick story if the class seems to be getting bored. Good sense of humor. Looks a little like Jack Black.
Dr. Allen is very smart and he knows what he is talking about, but don't let that fool you into thinking his class is easy. I am having a difficult time with his class and i took calculus. If you took AP in high school you should be fine, but if you didn't you will have to work a alot harder then the other students. It's a tough class, very tough.
Dr. Allen is a great guy. His classes are tough; alot of times you must teach yourself how to do the problems and, he flies through the book. However, he is super fair when it comes to grades. He wants you to succeed! Pay attention in class, do all the homework, and pratice every problem you can find and you will do fine! I would take him again!
Was a great teacher for a boring required class. Would highly advise him if you get a choice. Easiest class ever if you do the little bit of work he gives you.
Great teacher and person. Did not use a book this semester. Provided notes before each lecture and worked out great. (Saved us a lot of money) If you do the work you can get a fairly easy A.
This was an easy class. If you do the quizes and the practice tests you will be fine.
Allen is a great guy and very helpful out of class but i felt his tests were different than his notes and HW. Also the tests are quite killer. He likes to have fun in class and goof off and tell stories. Which kinda hurts in the long run cuz I could have prob. told u more bout his crazy stories than taking anti-derivatives after the final.
Despite Dr.Allen's great personality, his teaching skills arent so great. He zooms through the material.Tells 2many stories in class rather than teaching calculus;which really hurts in the longrun. Tests are really hard, class avg 68.He does give u sample tests.Dont bother going to class because he cant explain good ,hint just study his notes online
Dr. Allen had great notes however only one person in his class this semester had an A before the final. He's not easy to understand so find a tutor. He has a nice personallity but his class is harder than most. If you like your grade toward the end you don't have to take the final. Don't expect an A in his class unless you have taken calculus befor
Dr. Allen is a pretty nice guy but I don't feel like he's a very good teacher at all. Especially if you're not an engineering major because he gears everything towards them. This is understandable as most people who take this class are engineering majors but still as a non-engineering major I was thoroughly confused. I can't say I would reccomend
Very good man, very nice and helpful. However, not the easiest to understand and lacks clarity. If you've never had Calc before you'll have a hard time.
If you really want to learn the material and be prepared for calc 2, take Dr. Allen. He is helpful both in and out of class, and he posts all his notes and practice tests online. Class is usually pretty interesting, and he gives applications of the material. He is harder than most, but really pays off. Don't slack off and the class is pretty easy.
This class is very easy with this Dr. you can easily make an A in this class. I only studied just the day before the exams of final .. and I mad a B in this class. Dr. Allen only gives problems that he already explains in the lectures. The quizzes are from the H.W problems, the tests are from the Quizzes and H.W and the final is from tests, Q n HW.
I have had calculus before and this class was very difficult for me. He is a good person. But his teaching skills not so good. He thinks everyone in the class wants to be an engineer and that is not fair
Great Guy, helpful, overbearing at first, layed back loves good engineering examples(Hes getting his ME degree?), but still very traditional teacher.
This class was not easy for me because i'm not used to this kind of math. BUT Prof Allen throws out so many study aides, it's hard not to pass.
If you have him for advising he is horrible. So try to get a different advisor if possible. His office hours are inflexible. However I do not know what he is like as a teacher.
If you go to class, pay attention, and do the practice tests there is no reason you shouldn't make an A or at least a B. He's a really nice guy and wants his students to do well. I really liked him. It's hard to make statistics fun but he really does try. I recommend him for anyone.
I hate math and am really bad at it, but I made an A in Dr. Allen's class. As long as you show up, pay attention, and do the practice tests, you should be fine. Class is boring but he throws in random jokes and really gets to know his class. I really liked him.
He is great Calc teacher-I took him for Calculus III. He explains things really well, DOES NOT try to trick you with complicated problems on tests, and all the quizzes are problems from your hw. Even some test probs are from hw. He also postponed quizzes/tests if we told him we weren't prepared or were busy. It's a hard class, but good teacher.
Dr. Allen isn't bad but he isn't great. The class itself is challenging but I feel like he actually cares if you succeed. He will answer any questions you have and he gives the material ample time. Beware that his tests are usually a lot harder then what he leads you to believe but he gives outlandish amounts of partial credit so it's okay.
Although I'm not interested in math, the class wasn't bad and I thought it was fairly easy. Attendance is entirely optional, and he'll help you out a lot with your final grade. The tests were almost identical to the practice tests he gives out.
I really liked dr. allen. Very good teacher. he is a stats genuios if you ask me. his test were very long and very hard. Although he does curve if class average is bad. he is a really good story teller and can easily be took off target by talking to him.
Not sure if it was him or the class I hated. Because I hate math. But he is friendly
Dr. Allen is a great teacher and he is very friendly but his way in teaching not easy to follow. He give you pre-test exam before the exam day but he is change 50% of questions. so don't expect easy question. focus in what he telling you about in the book and you will pass his class. The great thing in his class, you always have a chance to get A.
He's a nice guy, but his class is difficult. Took up to pre-calc in HS and made A's in all my math classes and DE classes (chem, phys, ect.)that required math in it. Took this class as a refresher course, but didn't make a great grade. Some of the HW Q's require calc to complete. HW nor test reviews he gives helped to study for his tests.
He is a good person. His class is very difficult. He lets on that his test will not be very difficult and when you take the test it seems like stuff we never covered.
The only professor I had to take time to remember my name. However, while he is amiable his teaching is quite poor. I learned next to nothing in class and had to teach myself the material from the book on a daily basis.
He is serious. No help, you will get what you get.
I took him my freshman year and he is the best professor I have had so far. He actually took the time to remember my name and every now and then when I see him on campus he calls me by my name and says hey. I pleasure to learn from him. As long as you go to class you will be fine in his classes.
Dr. Allen is a very nice person, but his teaching skills aren't that great. He goes over material too fast and is at least a week ahead of the other Calc 2 classes. If you've never had calculus before this class will be difficult. He gives a practice test but about 25% of the material is actually on the test.
I'm currently taking Michael Allen for the 3000 level stats class. He knows his stuff, teaches it well, and has fun while doing it. His tests are open note, computer, and book and while they might take some thinking and some logic, i love him as a teacher. If you attend class and try, you will succeed.
If you have a moderate grasp on the material going into the class you will do fine other than that he's not the best teacher if you want to truly learn the material. His notes are scattered and he covers the material quickly. His tests are "open everything" I advise not to use resources, they will waste your time. Just attempt each problem.
Dr. Allen is one of the best that the Math department has. He's very new age in his teaching styles, and always seems to be trying new things in his classes. He's a very fair grader, and is always very reasonable. He really makes lectures interesting with his hilarious dry sense of humor. Not easy, but definitely a great professor.
I was very disappointed in the structure of this class. He went off on a tangent every class period. You do not have a book because he will "teach you everything you need to know"False. Tests are so challenging, it is almost a gamble of how well you are at fabricating. The homework is cake compared to tests. I actually wanted to learn statistics...
Dr. Allen's tests and assignments are tough, but he is a very lenient grader. He likes to assign problems that are slightly beyond what we talked about in class, to see what you can come up with as a solution. He's the nicest guy you will ever meet, and will help you with anything. Disclaimer: expect to do a lot of studying outside of your notes.
Dr. Allen is a great professor that strives to learn everyone by name. Only complaint about the class is the tests were quite difficult even though it was open everything.
Dr. Allen is a great guy and professor. It's obvious that he cares about every student. He puts 1-2 quizzes online each week, and you get several attempts. He gives a sample test and answers before each exam that shows you exactly what to study. If you can do most of the problems on the sample tests, you'll be fine. Awesome class!
He's alright. Homework is cake. Exams are open everything but they are very difficult. He tries to be as helpful as he can be and he's a really nice guy outside of class too. You can definitely benefit by going to his office hours.
Good professor, extremely hard course. Laptops are allowed during exams yet the tests aren't easy (no you can't find the answers online). You still need to spend a good amount of time studying for his exams. Homework is not too bad, only a few are difficult. Have excel spreadsheets ready for you to use on the exam, that would help a lot!
A very nice professor, he actually cares about how you do in the class and makes sure that you will pass. He is easily reachable by email . You will have a lot of homework but that is the same for every Algebra class. You don't even have to come to class unless you want to just hear his jokes and rambling. Test are like the practice ones.
Professor Allen is all over the place. He is very laid back, so some students like him, but he is not a very good teacher. Because he was laid back, however, I was able to finish the course early by doing all the homework and tests online. However, I did not like his teaching style at all and would not take him again.
Dr. Allen tells good dad-style jokes. However, is not great at teaching statistics. It's clear he understands the course material, but not well enough to teach to students unfamiliar with stats. Do the quizzes online (1 or 2 a week normally), and do the sample tests before the exams. Read the notes and do the quizzes while you read them.
The online class was better than I expected. I was nervous that my first online class was going to be Calc 1, but it was not that bad. You will definitely use the book for homework assigned every other day. Then there will be 3 tests you have to take on campus. That's why I say "graded by few things" because its just tests and homework.
Dr. Allen was a fill-in for my Math 1010 course and man was he horrible. I understand he may be good in other courses but he did not care about teaching Math 1010. All Dr. Allen did was change the test to a 10 question test because it was easy to grade and he read off the premade math lab slides for the lecture. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR THIS COURSE.
Dr. Allen is my favorite math professor I have ever had at Tech! He cares for his students and is always more than willing to answer questions. Lectures and notes were very informative and helpful for the homework and tests. There are a lot of examples he works through in class. He is also not too harsh of a grader and tries to work with you.
Dr. Allen is a very cool guy, but he was horrible at teaching Calc 1. I had this class at 8 am, and it was like he was also trying to stay awake. He did not explain the processes of solving problems and would skip to the answer very quickly. I feel like he is likely just not good at the lower level classes, but probably great for the upper level.
