Overall satisfied with class and professor.
Great Prof. Lectures are interesting.
A really nice guy, teaches using power point, not my preference but still gets the needed materail across plainly. Has take home tests which helps during all the other crazy finals. Highly recommend him.
good teacher, easy to get a good grade
going to class was a waste of time. take this teacher if you don't ever want to go to class but don't mind being completely lost.
Take this class if you are down with doing stuff online. You dont go to class much and midterm/finals are real easy to get full credit on. Overall a pretty good history class if you arent really into history
ASSIGNMENTS ARE A BREEZE. YOU NEVER HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. TESTS ARE NOT EVEN AN ISSUE
He is helpful but gives alot of readings and videos. Have to be seriously motivated and have alot of time to take his class on-line.
If you don't like computers, don't take this class. Everything is on the computer. It's not very clear what needs to be done at what time.
Great Professor! He was real cool and his lectures are interesting. Alot of his class is on blackboard online which is nice. The class is interesting and the assignments are very well laid out. I would choose him over any other professors.
Excellent Professor. Online class experience was awesome. You'll learn a great deal, if you enjoy computers.
Online class.A lot of reading and watching movies. Very interesting but really time consuming. You better like to write.
Good lecturer, simple and fair grader, overall good teacher.
class was a joke. I learned absolutely nothing. If you just want to fulfill your GE take him. If you really want to learn about history, take Greg Marshall. I never went to class and put very little effort in, and still got an A.
Very good class with lots of excellent materail. You will explore things that not other history class will explore.
This class was alright, its hard to stay on track when you only go to class once every two weeks, I know now that there are finals i'll be up until all hours finishing all the projects, but its interesting, and while i'm learning nothing new, attain 630 points and get an A.
Easy grading! Gives you so much extra credit and points that anyone can get an A. Take this class if you want credit towards A.A. and general studies.
Easiest teacher! Class is well structured & you submit everything online. So much extra credit. You don't even have to go to class. I never went for both 101 and 102 and I got A's both times. No tests, easy written assignements. Just get your stuff done, be aware of deadlines & youre set.
He is into online teaching. Uses blackboard for most things which means you rarely need to go to class. If you're a self starter you can get things done early and breeze through the class. Doesn't check turned in work very well, just makes sure the paper is the right length.
Very good online class, uses a much different approach to teaching, that makes the class interesting.
I took this class and rarely went. He loves doing stuff online. He has a different approach.. class was easy and I learned a lot. He brought about an interesting side of history.
Mr Jonhson is the best teacher and.. he really makes you want to learn and keep learning
Best teacher. Easy A. Hybrid class. Leinient with attendence. Allows lots of extra credit, and the best thing is NO TESTS. They're all papers and projects. Very awesome, great to keep up your GPA.
Great teacher a lot of reading material and a lot of very cool videos to watch which acts as your lectures if its online. Very clear lectures and interesting topics and very well structured class. Online classes should all be like this class.

Very clear and passionate, yet his class was structured to be a little too easy for me. Then again, I'm a history major, so maybe it's just me. He not only teaches history facts, but also places emphasis on learning how to do research, something that I am very thankful for. Very good experience with Arguello.
he is super nice and ALWAYS willing to help. He grades fairly, and gives you plenty of time and is very lenient for projects that you do throughout the semester
Easy Class. Nice teacher. Easy A.
Very helpful. Great class. First time taking an online class and i wish i would have done it a long time ago. Only take it if you can be very disciplined and can make the time to sit down and work. Easy class got an A.
Super easy class, great range of information, great option of interest. TAKE THIS CLASS -easy A!
He is one of t he best teachers ever. Very helpfull and happy. He looks like Santa Claus, jijiji. Even if you do not like history with this teacher you are going to enjoy it and fall in love with history because of the way he teaches and his pasion for the topics of the class
This was an easy A. i had the class on tues/thurs. and half the time, we didn't even have class. there was one paper at the end of the semester, and the rest of the time we learned history through watching movies. we did not have a single test and there was no pressure to pass this class. in this stressful world of college it was a breath of fresh
this class was very easy. chill&laid back teacher. just do your readings, assignments&discussion boards . it's an easy A in that class
Excellent class. A very understanding professor. I Highly recommend this teacher.
Easy class if you're good at computers/internet. Nice and understanding. It is a lot of work, takes a lot of time if you're thorough; but, you can pass with mediocre easily. Just be prepared for a LOT of time in front of a computer screen just for this class.
easy class as long as you DONT WAIT TIL THE LAST MINUTE!! i did and i worked my butt off turning in as much as possible and went from a "D" to possibly an "A-" in one day, at worst a "B+".. very nice, very helpful.
If you're looking for an easy class that you can work at your own pace on, this class is for you. I wouldn't reccomend waiting until the last few days to do all of the work but it is doable and you can still can an A.
Thoroughly enjoyed both 140 & 141 online. Lots of reading and documentaries, so keep up to avoid cramming at the end. Professor A is a great help and will answer questions through the discussion board. Book choices were very relevant diverse.
great teacher !! attendance is not mandatory, but it is kind of required, he will also teach us something new! open minded, and very flexible for grading. His class is all through blackboard, Online. Reading is required , but not as much though.
Hist 140 and 141 was easy. Past with an A. Lots of reading from the required test but it's helpful on the powerpoints. Easy teacher and class. Stay on top of the assignments because it's a lot to make up at the end...i know because i did it but still passed with an A. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Loved this teacher! I was not looking forward to History but after taking this class I was amazed at how much fun it was. If you put in the work you cannot get anything less than an A. If you are taking this online.....do not put it off to the last minute. I am also planning on taking his 141 class.
one of the best teachers I've had at Palomar! he's awesome, knows what hes teaching, loves documentaries, very flexible for grading, and even though you must read a lot, he also gives you a long time to read the texts. Attendance not mandatory, you always have until 12am of the due date to hand in your works online. Gives out a lot of extra credit.
I took professor A's History 141 Hybrid class, was the easiest class I have ever taken, attendance was not mandatory but when I did go I went online the entire time. All of his work is done through blackboard and is extremely easy. I did all of my work at the last minute possible and hardly attended class and I passed with an A.Books are Mandatory
He is way easy if you do the work. All of his homework is submitted online and its mostly power points. In class we watch videos and work. Your able to miss a class and not get behind, its extremly nice. Plus he is there if you need to have things clarified.
I took this online clas and got an easy A. You have to read a lot of books (all mandatory), but he gives you a long time. Have to make several online powerpoints, but if you space your time, it isnt that fustrating or stressful. Mainly just busy work and no tests. Easiest A I ever got for history!
I took his class online. It is an easy class. However, he has a hard time responding to emails. I sent him one every other week for the full semester before getting my question answered which was very annoying. I would not take him again.
Arguello is a cool guy. Low key, not pompous. NO TESTS, which is cool, just a lot of computer work; powerpoints, blogger sites. He's very lenient with timeframes. If your assignment is late, let him know, he's cool with it. I skipped half the semester 'cause all the work is submitted online; HIST 141 i'm doing online. Easy A, but a lot of work.
I took both his regular and online classes. Take the online class unless you need help with the computer because they are pretty much the same. This class is a lot of reading and time but easy to get an A if you just do the work. He grades easy and is always willing to help if you need it. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!
Took his History 140 online class & now taking History 141. Very easy class, but a lot of work/reading. Many power point slides, blogs, mid-term was power point report and essay. He focuses on learning the main reocurring themes in history. Knows his history. Nice man. I definitely recommend him.
Took online class. Enjoyed the class but you are definitely "on your own." The syllabus is given and that's it. Minimal communication and typically won't respond to emails, which was fine for me, but may be a challenge for the directionally challenged. Enjoyed the class, however.
This is my 2nd semester with him. He never lectures, just rambles about off-topic subjects. He requires tons of reading and huge assignments, but offers very little guidance or help. He is very unclear. He almost NEVER replies to emails! This is an easy class, but I seriously haven't learned anything valuable in his classes. This teacher is a JOKE.
I was not too excited about taking History 140 again because I got a D in another professors History class, but taking his class, there are NO TESTS! He talks, but it's not really about History, just random topics like how to get good deals and how he's not going to pay extra for random things...lol! Very EASY A!
Took his online HIST 141 class. Be prepared to do a LOT of reading, writing, documentaries, and powerpoints. You are indeed "on your own". However, I like how he teaches history by having us find "themes" from events rather than knowing names and dates. Fortunately, he teaches us in the start ways to read faster so it won't be so much work overall.
This was a terribly confusing class. There were no instructions. There were no due dates that could be found. There are 6 books you must read. He does not respond to emails whatsoever! You are on your own in this class.
Took 140 and 141 online. EASY! Great easy class, just a lot of reading. Stay motivated to turn in work online and youll get an A!
he is a horrible teacher. i went to class maybe twice a month because the videos and powerpoints he shows in class are just things that he finds interesting! all his assignments are posted online (eventually) and thats how i passed the class but i left more confused than when i walked in. take another teacher.
He is an interesting teacher. Uses so many different forms of materials-never gets boring! Do the extra credit along the way and points will add up quickly! Sometimes a bit vague on homework, but when posted on site we get it.
Took the class online. The assignments are mostly just powerpoints based on articles and movies he has on Blackboard. For the assignments based on books, you can just read Wikipedia and book summaries. When you're done, he has you turn them in via blackboard AND his stupid blog site. I halfassed this class and got an A, but hated every minute of it
I hate history and it doesn't help that this class is so incredibly boring. I'm in the not-online class, but there's no difference between them. Most of the assignments are PowerPoint and there are a few extremely short essays. Blackboard is confusing and he's trying to do way too much. Whenever I think about this class, I feel only frustration.
Easiest and most pointless class I've ever taken. If you want a very easy A, take this class. However, take it online. I made the mistake of enrolling in the actual class and hardly ever went as everything you need is online. Have access to a computer!
This guy is the man. Honestly barley did any work thought i was going to fail the class and ended up with an A!!! If you are a lazy person take this class you won't regret it! Hist. 33 at saddleback
Mr. Arguello is a good professor... He understands that life can get in the way and allows another chance for makeup of work. I and many others are pleased with this Arguello. His class can be alittle confusing in the beginning and attendance is necessary for full comprehension of what he talks about. Overall a great teacher A+++
Very easy grading. There is a lot of work to do for this course and a lot of reading which can be repetative. However, this is an easy A if you do the work. The Professor grades fair and does not expect too much but as along as you put in the effort you can get an A.
I got an A & the format was interesting. Lots of books, articles & videos, but you don't have to read every word. I spent hours prepping for the class to insure I would only have to read the minimum amount to complete the assignments. It was worth the effort. Very knowledgable professor but slow to respond.
OMG.....This teacher is great. Yes, there are a number of reports and a number of books to read. Anyone can get an A in this class if you just do the work and put in a little effort.
Adds assignments out of nowhere so be prepared for that. Very nice. Very excited about what he teaches. Gets off-track quite a bit but if you read the books you will pass.
There is LOTS of work and reports. Quite a few books and films to watch and write reports about. At first the format was very confusing but you'll figure it out. All in all it is an easy class its just time consuming. Stay on track do every assignment and you will get an A. Also many extra credit opportunities.
I had no interest in this class whatsoever but i did most of the work and got an A. He grades easily as long as you put in a little bit of effort. Dont let the number of books scare you, he lets you skim them and basically summarize it. The video reports are very easy, you can skip forward through them and summarize what you watched. Very easy A!
Dr. Arguello is the best! this class was the easiest class I have ever taken. If you just do an okay job on the research papers you will get an A in the class. He looks at the effort and I really like that!
You have to be willing to read and write papers. If you can't write a paper and handle 6-8 books this class would be difficult. However, I feel Dr. Arguello is very positive and I have to recommend his online course. Just remember read and write. Not a heavy duty Blackboard class which is great :)
Professor Arguello is amazing! His class requires mostly reading history novels and writing an essay for them. I'm not a very good writer but I still got an A. You aren't required to read the whole book, either. I never liked history before, but his class has given me a new outlook on the subject completely. I highly recommend taking his class :)
I loved taking both 140 & 141. He does give alot of books to read. It is to your gain. I have been inspired to visit Missions and now after taking 141 I really want to visit Haiti. Skyping with him was initially awkward for me, but he is easy to talk with and I earned extra points. :)
Great Teacher. His lectures are interesting and insightful, and he is more interested in helping students understand the subject than in making them learn dates for obscure events in history. He is flexible with due dates and attendance, but is willing to help with any problems students have. Would absolutely take him again for any class.
Reading and writing. You must read quickly and skim for important content. Several papers, no tests. Pay attention to the videos and texts, you will learn a lot. He is very open to ideas and wants you to understand various perspectives and form your own. So encouraging! Do the skype interview; great conversation and help with anything you need!
My first history class quite a long time. Very easy class. Very nice teacher.
Super friendly and relaxed guy. We read a couple books and watched videos and then wrote short papers about them (8 in all). I did them really quickly and still got an A. This class is perfect for those people who don't really like history. Answers emails pretty fast and is happy to help with what ever you need.I would take him again.
I took his hybrid class and he made his lecture days optional without attendance being taken. You know most of the class didn't show up. So I thought that was not a good idea and he gives good lectures too. His online work is easy, just watch films and read chapters of books and you will do fine on his essays.
Ridiculously easy teacher, the class seems hard at first, with a lot of material, but it quickly becomes clear how laid back this guy is. Encourages you to learn instead of forcing you to, and loves what he's teaching. I learned a lot, got an easy A, and acquired an interest in the subject. Truly excellent.
This class was unbelievably easy! To be honest, I'm 90% positive he doesn't even read the essays that he assigns. I got a 100% in the class and I barely did any work. If you need to take history, but you don't really want to, then you should take his online class.
He's a very easy grade, but I didn't really learn much. I was just confused what was happening in this class.
Definitely a good class and very informative. I enrolled in this class out of impulse and didn't really know what to expect. Professor Arguello outlines and schedules the course work for the semester in his syllabus. So long as you stick to the schedule he gives and you can write a decently constructed essay you will be ok. Lots of reading.
Overall, I enjoyed to class but I wouldn't say that it is my favorite. I did not learn anything from the lectures or the group presentations, but the reading was very informative although there was a lot of it. The class was not difficult whatsoever, just some papers and homework to turn in, so not a heavy workload. No tests for this class!!
The books are great, but I wish the actual class consisted of some actual material: Read the books, do your essays--done. Yes it's an easy class, but I feel like if he was a little bit more involved this class would have been much more inspiring because Dr. A has a passion for history, but I felt like I only learned from the books, and not him.
Professor Arguello is a solid instructor. He does ask you to read, a lot, but it's not the normal dry textbook reading. He cares more about you learning how history shapes our current lives and what you (we) learn from it and how people interpret history. He's not concerned with you memorizing dates and names for a test. I really enjoyed his class.
Was scared to take online. Took both 140 and 141 from him online (in different semesters) Reading the syllabus and the book requirements might scare you. But don't let it. You don't have to read the books cover to cover. Skim reading is a must. Quite a few papers, but if you have the books and watch his provided material you'll do fine.
Un-informative lectues, BUT, he has hand picked THE BEST books to read for history. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DO NOT LIKE READING. Also includes tons of documentaries/movies (new and very old) that are super awesome if you're into that, they are almost all for extra credit. Half of my total grade was extra credit.
Get ready to read a lot, there's no textbook needed but you do have to buy 8 history reading books. What matters the most are the 3 final essays based on readings and films.
His class was easy, I took the online version of 140. There were lots of films to watch (all of which were very interesting) and he picks THE BEST books to read. The three papers at the end of the semester were easy, if you read the books and watched the films. I recommend his course if you enjoy reading.
Very interesting professor, definitely unconventional and can ramble at times. However, he gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit and if you do everything and show interest, you'll pass for sure. He doesn't use a textbook, so be prepared to rent quite a few books. SKIMMING IS A MUST IN THIS CLASS.
One of the easiest professors I have taken. Throughout the semester you work in a group and that's how 90% of your work is. The midterm you can put off until the last second, submit it, and you'll get a 100. Same goes for the final. I showed up every day, but there were students that didn't show up half the time and still got A's.
He's nice. You'll read 8 books (6 completely, 2 partial), watch 10+ films, & 3 online lectures for book reports & essays. Very brief/vague directions. Not good at emailing back at all. Figure out the main class themes & skim read/watch to find them. Prepare to read so much!!! Take clear notes for essays. Note: minimal feedback on assignments.
Professor Arguello is one of the best professors at Palomar College. He has a high passion for what he teaches and is very nice and understanding to his students. This course does not require any textbooks, but assigns you to get 8 books. He is very helpful and informative. I highly recommend his class!
Professor Arguello is awesome, I took two classes with him because of this! Take him and have a peace of mind. He is so helpful. Amazing teacher an inspiration for other professors!!!
I took both Hist 140 &141 over this past summer, and I don't think I've ever written that many papers in my life. However, I didn't have a problem with it. Arguello's grading criteria is spot on and I am 90% sure he doesn't read any of the essays but just makes sure they're done. I got an A+ (100%) in both classes.
He is a very good professor, and this class is an easy A+!
Has a lot of books but they are small books not necessarily textbooks. Does a lot of group work. Gives a lot of extra credit by media or attending a kind of like seminar. Don't really have to be in class. Not much note taking to do in class rather than with assignments he gives you. Just make sure you turn notes into him in person or email.
Most difficult class I've taken. A traditional textbook isn't used - he uses six different books that you read throughout the semester. Easy to get overwhelmed and acquiring the books can be expensive. Overwhelming amount of reading and films, difficult essays. Huge time sink. But, Michael seems very nice and is on the generous side with grading.
Professor Arguello's class was definitely interesting. I'm a very visual person so many of the films helped a lot with the essays. The essays I found a little stressful, but now looking back I can say that I actually quite enjoyed them. There is no traditional textbook, which for me was a huge relief. Overall I plan on taking next his 141 class.
Professor Arguello is awesome! I really enjoyed learning history through novels vs a textbook. He is clear on instruction and expectations. Reading and participation matter. Do your part and your guaranteed to earn a good grade!
I honestly didn't learn much from this class, but it was an easy A. He assigns 6 books to read and you have to right mini essays on most of them. The final and the midterm are also essays, there are no tests. You could never show up and get 100% in his class. His lectures are boring and kind of random.
Really easy class. If youre taking this to learn something, you probably wont get much out of it. No textbook, but assigns 6 little books to read and do small essays on. Gives you lots of time to read them but its still a lot of reading. Super generous with grading. Midterm and final are also easy. Lectures never really relate to material.
I took his online class. Professor Arguello was a clear and precise professor. He had a meeting at the beginning of class and that was it for participation. If you went to his meeting you knew the expectation. His class is completely self paced. He laid out all of the material before the class started when you finished you were done with the class.
I am a high school student and I took this class online. My favorite Professor yet! This was a great course and he made it interesting. If you can read and write a paper it's an easy A. Take him he is the best!
First, you must understand that although an excellent teacher, he is so hands off I had no idea what my grade was until a few days when it posted. Feedback is delayed and minimal; he is very busy. You read a ton but ballpark what you are reading. You only need to submit 3 easy essays by end of semester, but watch and read tonz. Generalize your stuf
He's pretty good. It's all online and you have to read tons. Also, he grades pretty easy. You just have to throw up information on your essays and he'll give you an A. It's a heavy reading and writing class, but if you stay on top of it you'll be fine. He doesn't respond to emails and if he does, it takes him a long time to respond.
The entire class was graded essentially from 4 separate essays. These essays were long to write and based on various books and films. As long as you make the effort on the papers, you should get an A.
His expectations are clear on Canvas. There is a ton of reading/watching but instructs to skim. He seems very interested in students getting the general idea than detailed dates, names, etc. It works extremely well. Three essays of a couple of pages and one final essay of about 10 pages. These are double spaced and a breeze. His style is excellent.
I really enjoyed this online class, professor Arguello lays out all expectations, materials, and assignments and you are able to work on the four assigned essays throughout the semester, I really dreaded taking history but this class was enjoyable and I felt like he really just wants you to grasp the concepts. I highly recommend this class!!
Take him and online . Hes every straight forward and easy . You do only 4 essays ... no test .
A lot of reading is required for his online class but he is a very easy grader. Consisted of three minor essays and then one final essay that are all due at end of semester.
If you want to learn anything about history don't take him; if you just need to pass a class then this is an easy A. There are a couple papers and a few group presentations and he grades very generously. He spends most of the time in class talking about random people and events in history, and he isn't really clear about the point of the class
AN AMAZING PROFESSOR!! This is an easy class and you will pass with flying marks. THERE ARE NO TESTS!! Just essays! There are 4 essays. Three are only 2-3 pages and the last one is 6-10 pages. He gets back to you within hours of you email. He is very understanding and if you miss something he will let you try again. I WOULD 100% take him AGAIN!
I learned so much! This class was super easy yet you learn a lot!!
He was a good teacher if your looking for a straightforward class to take I would take him
Hes a really nice guy
He is not just an easy A, it actually works great, his system. He wants you to learn but not be so stressed about all the dates and names. A few 2-3 page reports, an 8 page final, no quizzes or anything like that. Tons of Ecredit. Scan books, skip thru videos, and you are fine. Ballpark it. He encourages you to just get the theme, not all details.
Professor Arguello is a very easy grader and his class is very well laid out. There are 3 papers you have to do over the course of the class and they are very easy if you don't wait till the last minute. The hardest thing about this class was my procrastination kicked in because all the due dates are at the end of the semester.
Clear grading criteria 4 major papers to do as long as you stick to the recommended schedule you will do fine! Definitely would take his class again
Not sure what to say. I'm sure he's a great person but honestly, the essays were pretty difficult. Prompts are all over the place and expects you to include a ton of sources into a short essay. Very stressful even if you don't procrastinate. I would recommend him though, maybe it's just me.
Easily the best teacher I've had in my entire life. Clear cut, simple, and straight forward grading. Do the assignments and you'll pass with an A.
I took this in the 4 week semester so the amount of homework I am sure was more due to that. He was awesome though and even though I have never done well in history I got an A. No tests and he gives you the book in the online format no need to purchase.
He grades by very few assignments, and is a really easy grader. Just a lot of reading and watching required.
Prof Arguello's Hist 140 class would've been easier if I didn't wait until the last week to write my 3 papers :) Nice guy though.
I took 140 and 141 over the summer, I didn't do any of the papers until the last week, honestly, I don't think he even read the papers. if you want to learn anything, you're not going too, but if you need these classes for transfer, its an easy A.
3-4 papers for Hist 140 & 141 and he doesn't read them. Everyone in the class gets full points automatically. Text sources are ok (some are actually really interesting) but he assigns a lot of films that are really poor quality, overdramatized and/or offensive to people of conscience with sexual scenes and violence. Easy pass for Gen Ed requirement
He puts everything online so you don't have to buy any books. Lots of videos to watch. If you can read a few books, watch videos, and write a few papers you'll pass. There's no wrong answer from what I can tell. Learned more about history from this class in 16 weeks than all my other years of school combined.
I am absolutely certain he didnt read a single paper i wrote and i got 100% in the whole class. Really easy A.
