He's hilarious...but he never laughs
he teaches a personality course and doesn't smile, that's horrible!!!
nickname 'kermit' he sounds like him! Nice Guy!
Good course content. Difficult test applications. Unique personality.
I like him. Funny and cute. Very smart
Hilariously funny! Love the dry wit! Fair tests.

best prof ever
The **** has it in for NEUR students. Unfair accusations of plaigarism and academic misconduct posed for several NEUR students.
Great prof., knows what he is talking about. Funny as anything and fair in marking. Expects students to reach their potential.
Very approachable. Gets to know the students on a personal basis. Uses his sense of humor in almost every lecture to lighten dry lecture material. A+.
This guy is so boring. His material just drags onnnnnnnnnn. He also sounds exactly like BERT from Bert and Ernie.
Knowledgable, Humorous, Cute
Boring, hard marker, tests are so confusing and deceptive. On top of that, the course material is so dull. The guy has virtually no personality. If I could do it again, I wouldn't.
He is so dull and a very hard marker. Famous for his tricky multiple choice tests. Seems to me like he wants the students to do bad in his course. Do not go near this man.
Amazing Prof. Only one who cares about the students. Tests are hard..but what do you expect, it's University. Take his courses. Great blend of humor, knowledge, and approachable. This guy is great!
Tests are extremely difficult, and make up 70% of the course. Too hard.
dull dull dull dull
He is a tough teacher and very boring!
Love him! Funny, helpful, friendly...so the material is a bit dry, suck it up! And if you actually study for the tests, it's not bad at all. It was my highest mark the year I took it! Always in his office and willing to make time.
He is extremely interested in the course material and motivates us through his enthusiasm. Very rare do you find professors who encourage students as he does. He doesn’t sugar coat the difficulty of the course yet is willing to help you succeed. One of the best professors I have had!
Not really what I expected in Personality, but that's not his fault. He explains things well. The tests are hard but you can do well if you do good on the assignments and if you go to sem. His humour is really subtle, but funny!!
pffft....make eye contact once in awhile, you robot! and maybe go home once and awhile!
Mike is the best! A great guy, HILARIOUS, & very intelligent...acknowledged worldwide for his personality research! His tests are fair; I did my work, studied the material and did amazing- it's possible! AND, any questions he finds to be statistically 'unfair', he drops...what more can u ask for!
his voice sounds like kermit the frog and his tests are impossible. this was the worst class i have ever taken.
pretty boring...wish it was made more interesting b.c the topic is cool.
If you actually go and talk to him, he's the most helpful, friendly professor that you'll ever meet. And the class is not that hard!!!!!
Hated this class. Just wasn't what I was planning on studying and I found his class boring. He's a nice guy and easy to talk to though.
Great prof. Best in the Department. he is helpful, knowledgable and his sense of humour os great, though a bit dry.
good prof, easy to talk to after you approach him, but hard t oapproach him, if he doesnt know who you are
Awesome awesome prof. Very few get his humour but I did, and loved it. One of my all time favs.
reminds me of the principle in matilda "im big you're small, im smart you're dumb..."
I thought I was taking Personality, not Statistics. If you have any passion for Personality Psychology RUN FARRR FROM THIS CLASS! It will kill all the passion you have for that subject.
He looks a little intimidating, but is actually very nice and helpful when you approach him and ask him for help. He makes his assignment requirements crystal clear to avoid any confusion. His tests are hard and a bit on the long side, but he was fair by giving everyone an extra 5% on top of the mark they received on their midterm. Thank you for th
Very, very smart professor. Unfortunately, sometimes his explanations are well over the heads of his students. However, he's always available outside the classroom to help students out. If you are genuinely interested in personality and research, Dr. Ashton will prove to be a great professor who will further your interest in psychology.
A great Professor. Really smart and always willign to help students who are interested and willing to work. Yes his course is hard, but it's university people, it suppose to be.
CUTE!
Funny!
Just terrible. His textbook is garbage, you cant learn from it, and unfortunately he is the same way. He teaches very general information with no conclusions. His tests are ridiculous and full of double negatives. He is very nice man who cares about his students and work but don't take his class, it sounds interesting but it really sucks.
Not as interesting as i expected. I did very well on the midterm but then was destroyed by the final. Exams are extremely tough & designed to stump you. I spent all study time with just the textbook & had mixed results (see beginning) however he wrote the thing so it is very accurate compared to most classes.
He is a very nice man on a personal level, but has extremely tough tests. He takes pride in knowing he has tough tests. He told my class "This will be the hardest multiple choice you have ever taken".
Purposely tries to make course difficult. I understand it is university but the test do not need to be made so difficult. Very poor format for an MC test. Almost every question consists of a, b, c, a&b, b&c....voice can become annoying during a 2 hour lecture. Clearly trying to make more difficult than need be, trying to show off.
He is very clear with his explanations. Obviously knowledgable. He wrote the textbook so obviously if you're going to miss something, like he says miss lecture not a reading. Great class, pretty interesting.
Ashton is a funny guy if you like quirky humour. His mannerisms are especially fun to watch when he lectures, like how often he squints his eyes. He is very clear about his expectations, and yes, his tests are on the difficult side. However, they are entirely fair if you attend the lectures and DO THE READINGS. YOU CANNOT SKIP ON HIS TEXTBOOK.
he was the worst prof when it came to exam time. The multiple choice was next to impossible! 3 hour exam of all multiple choice that took a page each was a killer!!!!! he definitely needs to change that
Lays the expectations out from the very 1st lecture. Personality is an extremely tough class with an extremely light workload (if that makes sense). If you are not good at multiple choice tests, I wouldn't advise taking 2p25. Also, lecture attendance is not 'entirely' mandatory, as he writes the textbook and pretty much goes through it lec by lec.
Ashton is a great professor, he lectures well, and studies his topics passionately. He is clear in his descriptions and makes the content easily digestible. His style is very calm and monotone, so his lectures can be boring if you have no interest in the material. Overall a good professor, very fair with excellent course structure.
He is great!
Had ashton for 3F20 as well & he cares about teaching & his students; he's extremely easy to talk to although he may seem intimidating. Most people find his exams to be very difficult but I ended up with over 90s on both the midterm and final!! His exams are all multiple choice & he gives a review; do the review in detail & your golden! Very easy
Ashton is my favourite professor at Brock because he seems like he actually likes teaching. His tests can be hard but are VERY fair, especially with the study sheets he posts which literally have a 1:1 ratio on what will be really on the test. He's super nice and always happy to explain and help you out. I wish he taught more classes!
Really very smart. Funny in an awkward way but still really funny. Harder test but fair.
Difficult course but if you go to class and study the textbook, you should be fine. The multiple choice questions can confusing sometimes, so you have to read the questions carefully and make sure you choose the right answer.
It was his first time teaching this course but his assignments were fair and he gave tons of bonus marks out. The midterm was all MC and a bit tricky but the dec final was so easy, he provided review sheets for both. Hes super funny in a cute awkward way and is also really approachable outside of class.
So witty! It's great. He loves to add random interesting facts when he sees the class falling asleep. I f you pay attention to his hints and ask questions, you'll do great in this class!
This guy sucks. His multiple choice questions on the exams are next to impossible, and..... nope that's it. That's all he has on his exams. 90! multiple choice that will ruin your week.
Dr. Ashton is a great professor! He adds subtle humour to his lectures in a unique way. His tests are difficult but extremely fair! He provides a review sheet before the test which is exactly what is on the test - no surprises! His course outline is basic and the workload for the course is light. His expertise in the field of personality shows.
I've really enjoyed being in Dr. Ashton's class. His lectures are informative and entertaining and he encourages student participation and questions. He tells you exactly what's on the tests, which usually consist of (complex) multiple-choice. He's also kind and friendly to students, just an easy to get along with person overall.
Dr. Ashton is one of the leaders in personality psychology. He is very knowledgeable and funny at the same time. Assignments are fun and creative, but can be difficult. He is a tough, but fair grader. He makes you work hard, but it is worth it. Make sure that you understand concepts well. Online course delivery due to Covid-19 disruption.
He makes lectures fun by making jokes often. Course is 2 written assignments which are actually fun and 2 exams. He gives you an exam review which is exactly whats on the test, ngl its a lot but he gives you everything you need to succeed. He knows and enjoys what hes talking about which really shows and makes it enjoyable. 10000000/10 Recommend
Dr Ashton is funny, and I enjoyed his lectures. His exams are as hard as people say they are, but with his review you should pass no problem (and if you actually study well, you'll probably do very good!). The papers though - very creative assignments, I enjoyed writing them, but the grading was the harshest I've ever had. Ouch! Good prof though.
Pretty sure that underneath his dress shirts and khakis he is hiding a ripped, rockin' bod.
When I took his midterm it was the hardest test I've ever taken because there were barely any preparations for the test, no homework or practice of lecture material, and this guy gave us a 66 question exam with long-winded questions with bad punctuation. Most of the class failed, I resent him deeply. Also, no way to get extra credit, 1paper 2exams
He's very insensitive when talking about mental health within his class. Teaches misinformation and tries to correlate all his ideas to a HEXACO personality test that he designed as proof within his lectures. However, all the correlations are weak correlations. Average at marking, but you won't learn anything valuable
Go to lecture! He basically addresses everything for tests and exams without explicitly saying it, especially the lecture before an exam. Always tries to make lecture fun and funny with various humour and personal stories. Also, he lays out the assignments so easily that if you have just basic understanding of the concepts you should do well.
He reads off the slides, pushes his own theories, and review sessions lack preparation. we are 3/4 of the way through the semester and I feel as if I have learned nothing significant from this course. I'm sure he's a nice guy but I have struggled to engage with the content
Super accommodating. The e-textbook the SAS provided wasn't working with my disability and he helped me contact the publishers to get a more accessible version. As long as you either read the text book or attend the lectures you'll do well. Midterm questions are just like the review so make sure you do it. So much respect for this prof. Great guy
He simply just reads from the slides, there's not much engagement or strong interest I gained from this professor or class in general. There's two written assignments, two midterms, and one final. All multiple choice. No areas on the midterms or final exam for short/long answers to make up for the MC questions you may or may not get wrong.
Very stiff in his teaching methods. Continued to ignore request of students regarding the lack of help received.
This professor makes extra office hours around exam time; even if you have no questions making use of the time to talk over material is extremely helpful. He's very understanding, approachable, and genuinely wants his students to succeed! Lectures are a huge help, and his textbook is free and an easy read! He also answers emails quickly! Great guy!
His lectures were not the most exciting I've ever experienced, he pretty much read off of the slides and when he didn't it was primarily examples. He was very good with extensions, every written assignment got an extension for a day or two. His assignment markers were exceptionally hard and very critical, especially with grammar.
I scored a 97% on the second mid-term and 96% on the final exam. Both these exams were in person; I am not a very smart guy but the course content is interesting more than 90% of the times. Read the textbook and lectures slides for sure, they are tiny chapters. Great course and great professor, the results will depend on you as an individual!
The slides were short and vague. He is super monotone and he adds "..." after every point.
Tests are tricky on purpose.
You spend the whole time talking about how he wrote a textbook, does not subtly brag about it
I hate this prof I don't like this prof boring useless lectures hard tests because they're nothing like the given review and because he words the questions making them impossible to understand if this class isn't mandatory DON'T TAKE IT
Ashton was a good professor especially since he is a leading research in his field. There was only 3 midterms worth 21% EA and the final exam worth 37%. This meant showing up and studying matter a lot in this course. He has good jokes (dry humour).
I acc love Ashton, I don't know why he gets the hate he does. If you're in a 2nd year class, you obviously need to put in more work? Multiple choice can be tricky so the only way to do well is to actually study the textbook and lectures. He's so funny and nice and a great sense of humor (dry). STOP the hate :( y'all js don't study
I will say his courses are difficult, the layout of multiple choice is tricky. I have no hate towards him and his character, he makes his lectures funny and interesting. I didn't do great on the first exam, but improved a lot the second time around when I knew what to expect and how to study for his class. Take his class, you'll learn a lot!
Religious? Pick a religion and start praying, because Dr. Ashton's multiple choice exams will have you paying for all of your sins you've ever commited in this life, and your past lives too.
The hate on Dr Ashton is ridiculous, he is a great prof! Students think they can pass the class without ever opening the textbook - and that's the biggest mistake for 2P25. Lectures can be a bit monotone sometimes, but Dr Ashton is one of the biggest researchers in personality!! He knows so much! Read the book and attend lec, you'll be fine
He only gives multiple choice tests where the options are a b c d e AND i ii iii iv for questions, meaning that if you get 95% of the question right but select one wrong i you will get 0 marks. Also he only reads off slides with 100000 words and does not engage with students at all or give any type of feedback or a singular assignment.
This class is only based on tests, so if you suck at MC tests where 90% of it is a) i and iii or b) ii and iii etc. just drop the class and take 2P30. The professor just reads off the slides you end up having to teach yourself the stuff cause the lectures are so boring. He's a nice guy but horrible teacher.
BEWARE: YOUR OVERALL MARK DEPENDS SOLELY ON MIDTERMS & THE EXAM. Midterms and the 37% final are extremely challenging, with confusing wording. Despite manageable lectures and review sessions, over half the class typically fails due to the difficulty level.
The midterms for this course are way more complicated then they have to be. The lecture content isn't bad, but the prof makes the tests intentionally difficult. First class I have ever had to drop.
Definitely the best psych professor I've had. Dr. Ashton has very succinct lectures, and is always making jokes. The content is very research-focused, but that's been common in a lot of classes. The only marks were based on 4 exams throughout the term, but they're all multiple choice. Overall, a great prof and interesting class.
There are so many bad reviews of Dr. Ashton but do not let this deter you from the course! He is kind, knowledgeable and engaging. If you do well on tests usually and don't prefer projects or talking, this is for you. Do the readings and study accordingly you will do well in this course. He provides all the covered test material in the review.
Terrible experience. Lectures are ok, but the exams are confusing and heavily worded. Your entire mark comes from the midterms and final—no homework, assignments, or seminars to help. Do NOT take this class unless you've got no alternative or you love to suffer.
