Lectures are very interesting and easy to understand. Dr. Mike is an amazing speaker. Some exam questions are a little obscure and difficult if you are unprepared. Lectures are very well organized making them easy to follow along with.

What a great prof. He SHOULD be a motivational speaker! Extremely available for questions after class or even during it, which is amazing considering the class size (800 people). Haven't found exams too difficult in general... and yeah, 90% of the exams are written by all profs together.

You feel like you are in a movie pretending you are in class, and not really learning much; with all the music and movies. You forget everything you memorize for the exams a minute after writing it. Funny prof however.

This class inspired me to continue on with psychology and do a double major. (I wasn't originally in psych). Dr. Mike is really energetic and makes most of the material pretty interesting...especially in the second semester. Atkinson is straight-up the best professor I had in 1st yr. He is the reason why people want to major in psycholog.1 thing i like is that he's VERY SYSTEMATIC, follows the textbook material closely and his notes are very organized. Go to lecture,take notes (or get some1 else to take them), read ur textbook and u'r guaranteed to do well!GO DR MIKE!

Everybody recommended Dr. Mike's class, and with good reason. Rather than just a lecture, his classes were often a very informative comedy show about psychology. He's great with answering our questions and helping out. Exams are difficult for those of us who have trouble memorizing information, but the class was one I hated to miss.

Fantastic; one of the best teachers Western has. His lectures are engaging and informative, and he is hilarious. Tests are fair without being too difficult, and his passion for the material motivates you to learn. Everyone wants his class, and for good reason. 800 students in one class can make question answering tough, so you'll rely on TAs a lot.

Fantastic Prof. Being a mature student attending University for the first time last year, Dr. Mike's class was my first introduction to UWO life and what an intro it was! Switched out of BUSINESS 1220 to be in his class and it was totally worth it. As long as you go to class, keep up with the readings, the exam is a piece of cake since he keeps it interesting :). Dr. Mike is awesome!!!

if you're taking psych 1000, CHOOSE HIM AS YOUR PROF. interesting lectures, pretty chill. MC questions on his exams can be tricky at times but usually pretty straightforward if you study the material

I did really well in his class, so my negative opinion isn't due to that. His lectures were interesting and he conveyed the material EXTREMELY well. I just found him hard to contact (i.e. getting an ans re:exam date). Also, he posted an outline for the exam the night before the exam; nice of him to too, but not great timing for people that work.

Dr. Mike was an awesome prof. He offers a lot of office hours and is there to help students before, during and after class. Test content comes from both lecture and textbook notes. If you study you'll do great... just be sure to memorize the textbook in-depth. His class fills up fast so sign up as soon as registration opens.

His lectures could get a little boring but he pretty much mentions everything you need to know during the lectures. If he doesn't talk about it, he will most likely tell you to go read it in the textbook. His section questions are harder than other profs'.

Compared to other profs in the section who created study notes and weekly discussions, Mike didn't help us in any way for the exams. I would have liked his lectures to be put online (like other profs for the course did) bc it wasn't fair. Tip: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MEMORY OF AN ELEPHANT, ITS ALL MEMORIZATION

Definitely gives the best lectures and being in his class is a great experience in itself. HOWEVER, even with his passion for psych and the amount of energy he puts in his lectures, he is not very helpful when it comes to exams. He is very vague with what you need to know (must read everything in the textbook) and his lecture questions are tough!

Obviously, his material is pretty difficult and kind of specific when his section of the test comes up, but it is definitely doable because he's really clear with his material. So engaging during his lectures and the concepts are so interesting. Wish i would have talked to him more considering how approachable he is. Finds a way to keep 800 kids interested for 2 hours which is amazing and the way he starts and finishes lectures makes my day.

Honestly, could not have asked for a better prof. The guy is a natural born lecturer, he keeps even the most bland of topics interesting through his lectures, adds in a few jokes, but always teaches the material in an effective way. Makes lectures enjoyable. 2 hour lectures are actually 1:15 minutes with a break in the middle. You won't have to do a lot day by day but it's difficult to get good marks on the exam if you cram.

Mike was funny and always made the lectures interesting. Always started 15 minutes after scheduled time with a related video and gave us a stretch break in the middle which was nice. Applies his own research to the course which is cool! I was always excited to go to class. There is a lot of reading involved though and it is very easy to fall behind

Mike is an incredible prof, his lectures are mind blowing and made me love going to class. HOWEVER psych 1000 was very hard and definitely an average killer contrary to popular belief. I ended with a 68 and got 80s and 90s in my other classes. If you are not in medical science or science i don't recommend psych and it may bite you in the behind.

If you're taking Psychology 1000, taking it with a professor other than Michael Atkinson will be one of the biggest mistakes at Western. Dr. Mike's legendary lecturing abilities and enthusiastic teaching made Psych 1000 my favorite class. Tests are 4/5 textbook, 1/5 lecture... Read the text and catch up on anything you miss and you'll be golden. GL

Dr. Mike was amazing! It's the class I look forward to every week. He makes the course content really interesting, is good with use of media, and demonstrates the content well to make it easier to comprehend, like when he showed the class optical illusions to demonstrate perception. He's super nice and such a great guy!

I deeply respect Dr. Atkinson and enjoyed his lectures. While I received a very decent grade I still want to point out that his lecture section on exams is much harder than any other prof. That is my only complaint, and for some people, situations can be a lot worse.

This guy is probably one of the best profs you'll ever have. The man coordinates his playlists with lectures and they're all bangers. Lectures are ALWAYS interesting and class is always short. Dr. Mike is 100% certified beauty.

Mike has without a doubt the most entertaining lectures of any prof I've had. They are fun, and engaging. This being said the exams are hard, no question about it. If you're not looking for a course where you absolutely have to read the textbook, psych probably isn't for you.

I'm beyond glad I took this class with Mike. My favourite prof of all time. Always answers questions after lectures and always gives review sessions before exams. Even if you aren't in psych this class is extremely interesting!

His lectures covered very little of the actual course material. but if you don't go to class you wont be able to answer the last 20 questions on each exams. will have to read the textbook from front to back, every single section before exams. If you do have questions, he is pretty easy to reach and is helpful. easy 5% from his online assignments.

Psych with Mike is the best thing and the worst thing. A+ prof, keeps you engaged, always looked forward to his classes and he put videos online if you missed lecture, but exams have SO MUCH content to study. It feels impossible to memorize that much so it can be quite overwhelming so you definitely need a good work ethic to do well!

Dr Mike is an awesome prof. Exams were very textbook heavy, but Dr Mike has a separate section where the questions are purely based on his lectures. Many online discussions were also necessary to pass the course. Downside in lectures is that his voice is very soothing so it was easy to fall asleep in class.

Don't know why people are bashing on him so much. Our midterm was pretty straightforward, a lot of questions was just basic application of textbook/lecture concepts

Knowledgeable, clear, and respected. Sometimes his lectures provide information that conflict with those in the textbook, but this inconsistency has not been a problem for me. Will never reply to your emails (which is understandable since there are 3000 students in this course), so if you have any questions send it to the other course admins.

Tons of textbook readings. Easy well-explained lectures. Charismatic personality made them ez to enjoy. You might not do too well on the midterm and final exam (pretty specific) but there are plenty of free marks which will compensate for them.

Dr. Mike is a really respectful and caring guy. He is really dedicated to his work and to helping students thrive; as with almost any psych course, the reading was HEAVY but manageable if you manage your time properly. It's crucial to read the textbook if you want to pass with flying colours. 10/10 would recommend taking Dr. Mike's class.

Barely watched lec videos since it is just information from his textbook. Lots of textbook reading. Never met the guy but this class was fun. TA was also great but tutorials are formatted weird where one person can talk for almost half an hour while the answer is just a couple minutes.

Really depends on the TA. The exam had difficult multiple-choice questions. Although, if you know and understand the content this should not be an issue.

Doctor Mike was great but your grade in this course heavily depends on if you get a good TA or not. LOTS OF READING, so don't fall behind. Best piece of advice is to do as best you can during the term so you have some wiggle room on the exam because it was tough.

Overall, good prof. He made online lectures interesting, and broke each topic up into its own video. The only thing I disliked was that the exam was closed book (online) covering content not discussed in class, tutorial, or textbook.

Dr. Mike is a great and caring prof with lecture videos that are entertaining, but beware of the heavy textbook readings assigned every week. Getting a good TA is crucial. Make sure to be caught up each week as it is a lot of reading and the final is worth 50% of your grade. If you keep up, you will do well. Got a 91 on the final and ended with 93

Lectures are very organized and clear, although they are not super necessary if you read the textbook. The tutorials are kind of useless and your mark basically depends on how good your TA is. He is accommodating and helpful when you ask questions. Overall very nice guy and great lectures!

Dr. Mike was a great prof. Although his portion of the course was online, he really made an effort to reach out to students through email and show that he was available to help. Exam was hard, but he really worked towards preparing us for it. Can tell he really cares and wants everyone to do well. Would recommend.

psych is a lot of information!!!! welcome to university!! of course psych intro is not a birds course.... so much information to cover but dr mike does an amazing job at it. perfect prof. fair mark breakdown, incredible teaching style, passionate, I could go on. take this course, you won't regret having dr mike as a prof.

The absolute GOATED psychology professor.

Psych was the most time consuming class I took last semester, so much reading and so much to do each week. Bc its async dr mike has moreso remained a mystery to me but at the end of the day the info is really interesting and the breakdown allows for a good mark if you put in effort

Took his course in first year and overall was nice experience, you definitely need the textbook to pass the tests and to get a decent grade at our labs. Test was okay (not the easiest, not the worst either) pretty average. Only thing i absolutely DETESTED about this class were the labs. They're high pressure and you MUST participate for a mark.

Dr. Mike is one of UWO's most AMAZING professors, you need to take one of his courses at some point. You can easily tell that he loves what he does and teaching it to others.

Good guy, the course has a lot of free marks but the exam is a pretty effective grade killer. The lecture videos are really interesting and I wish he covered all the content, but you do need to read the textbook in order to do well in this course. Atkinson is pretty good at fixing any minor mistakes in marking and is pretty accesible. Fun course

really good lectures, but very reading heavy. By the end of the course, most people just stop doing the reading and watch on 2x speed. Exams are based on reading content mostly, but can be tough due to time crunch and if soc-sci isn't your thing. Not a bird course like everyone says. a couple random questions on exam, but mostly fair.

Great professor overall, lots of reading, make good notes and you will be okay. Tutorials are fun, make sure you get all the "free" marks.

Professor Atkinson's lectures are engaging, but the course has a heavy reading load. To do well, use the textbook, attend lectures, and leverage study tools like unstuckstudy ai along with resources like ChatGPT. It's not an easy A, but worth the effort.

He's a great prof!! Always engaging, plays intro and outro music, and actually cares to make it interesting. Lots of reading, but it's a heavy course so it's expected!! Not a bird, but defiantly interesting if you're into psychology. Most up to the midterm interview from grade 12 which is really nice!!

amazing professor! he actually takes time to make classes interesting. this course is a very heavy reading based course and is not easy but it is worth it!

He's so passionate about his lectures and even plays intro music before class and even ends with an outro- He's so silly, we love Dr. Mike.

Dr. Mike is such an amazing professor. Hes just a chill guyl and so laid back. He definitely knows what he's talking about in the lectures, and he definitely enjoys doing it. He makes everything super clear as well. His outfits are also amazing too. I hope life brings him all the goodness.

One of my favourite professors so far. His lectures are engaging but also forward and straight to the point. He works to engage his students in the subject. The course itself has a lot of reading and content but his teaching style is great.

Lot's of reading, but if you go to lecture the readings aren't too important unless you are confused. Good prof, lectures explain the course material very well.

Good prof, starts secure with a random 10-20 minute video. Lot's of reading but not necessary if you attend lecture and understand what is going on.

Dr. Mike is an amazing prof and makes a 2 hour psych lecture something to look foward to. The exams are heavily weighted and there's A LOT of textbook readings, but it's not terrible if you stay on top of it week by week.

Mike is so awesome! He is one of the most engaging profs and he always seems so happy to be here. I don't LOVE his slides or the fact that he doesn't always post them before lecture...but other than that, he's great!

Super chill prof and you can tell that he is passionate about what he's teaching. Explains concepts in a way so that we can understand instead of rambling on and on.

Shows super long videos before lectures which I don't particularly enjoy but other than that his lectures are a pleasure to attend. Passing is possible without doing readings but you're definitely in for it like I was if you don't bother with them.

so great, you can tell he cares about the material and his students, his slides have a lot of info and he goes fast so be prepared to take lots of notes, but also most of the info is found in the textbook so you can look at it after. pretty easy content too just a lot of reading.

Loved him. He gave the best lecture for 2045, he was clearly invested in what he was teaching and cared about his students. I learned so much more in his class than any other class.

this man aura farms i acc love his class. the midterm took me by surprise because it was so much harder than the practice he gave us. 75% of his tests r based off textbook so be prepared to read, dont get behind on it like i did... but SUCH a nice man, interesting content

dr mike is an average prof, but he's great! lectures are super long + boring, and they don't cover as much as the textbook does. READ THE TEXTBOOK!! that's the only way ur gonna get all the info you'll need for the midterms/finals

absolute king. lectures are fun and they usually end earlier than its supposed to, but you're probably better off teaching yourself through the textbook. the only other issue is that the mid-term and final is weighted heavily, but other than that you'll just have short quizzes online that you can easily ace, but overall hes an amazing prof

The professor is entertaining, but the exams are brutal and based almost entirely on textbook memorization, making lectures feel pointless. Practice exams are far easier than the real midterm and final, which together are worth 80%. Class average failed and there was no curve. Would not take unless required.
