hard to stay awake, but you only have to buy one cheap notebook and fill in the blanks... that's alot better than taking 3236209 pages of notes a day like i hear the other prof does. he seems rude and arrogant, but he's not that bad..

This is by FAR the worse class I have EVER taken. VERY boring. I wasn't sure if I was taking a class about the arts or about Paul. His analogies are horrid. Ive taken other art classes as other universities that were MUCH better...

Everyone told me he was so hard, but all you have to do is study the notes a little bit and you do fine. I really like his approach to making the student problem solve and not giving them the answer. It can be a little boring at times, but so far it has been easy.

If you are at all intersted in the arts or ancient cultures this class is very intersting. While the prof. is a little on the monotone side he is very knowlegable and loves the subject he is talking about. I really enjoyed this class it was very informative and helpful. Although FA 101 room depending on the season can be very warm or very cold!

Wow, this guy loves his subject. Sometimes a little scary. Tests easy if studied for. overall, sleep through class get the workbook answers and study for tests and you'll get an A.

They really need to give him a microphone. In our room the chairs were so comfortable and he was so quiet that I slept in class every day. Still got an A, though. Babcock is a funny man who really does enjoy his subject. By the end of the class, you will be able to name most of the 100+ people on the roll; he calls it every day.

The chairs are entirely too comfortable, and its freezing in there, but its a pretty good class. He makes it interesting, so if your not sleepy that day, its good. The workbook is awesome, he goes through it in class, you study, and pass the tests. If you dont study, your screwed.

I liked this guy. When he would say a joke I would actually laugh, maybe even the loudest. He teaches like a real professor in which he doesnt come around and make sure you did your homework, he aint breast feeding you. His class is easy if you put forth actual studying. I would saty up maybe 3 hrs the night before the exam and pull off mid B's.

He's okay but the professors need to realize that some Distance Learning students work full-time and have families but they put all that work on you like you have all day to just sit down and do assignments . Overall, he's a nice guy but think about having a different outline for Distance Learning students! God Bless...

Extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate concepts well.This class was by far one of my favorites while at Liberty. Although the pace is rather slow, the material covered will go with you throughout your lifetime. You will never walk through a museum the same way again.

Dr. Babcok is an extremely intelligent human being, and knows everything he is talking about. His lectures could possibly be boring to some, especially in FA 101 with those seats. Hist tests are difficult. He'll tell you to constantly review the material... listen to him.

Babcock really is a good professor you will learn a lot in his class. His test are not easy, but they are not hard if you study at least 15 minutes each night starting the week before & know the bold words then you will pull off an B OR A in his class. I got an A, it just took some time & effort. NO H.WORK...RECOMMEND STUDY GROUPS!!!

If you're looking for an easy "A" he's not your best choice. If you're great at memorizing lots and lots...and lots of facts, dates, names, etc. and then spewing them out for a test you'll make an "A." That's what I did. You have to memorize everything in the booklet which takes time but you can forget as soon as you're done with the test.

He is truly passionate about what he's teaching. I believe that if a professor is passionate about his/her work, then we can become interested at the least. The tests aren't just straight definition, because he wants you to apply theory, belief and concepts- i loved this course, got an A in it, BUT i did study like it was a college course.

I really liked Babcock, but I'm the type who likes lectures and actually enjoys this material. If you can't stand lectures, don't take the kid. But if you love lectures like I do, go ahead. He's nice and explains things, but the class is semi-hard.

Very picky about attendence. Dont take an early class if you can't handle it. He is Monotone and boring but very interested in his topic, if you force yourself to listen it wont be that bad. He knows his subject. His tests are very hard, memorize the book and take notes! you can do well.

Pretty tough class. He is very knowledgeable about the subject, but he likes to go off on tangents about things that aren't even on the test. There is no study guide given, so it is hard to know what to prepare for. He drops your grade a whole letter after missing only 3 classes. He is very helpful regarding questions, however.

If you are looking for a teacher that will let you slip by without learning, he is not the teacher for you. It is imperative that you study in this class, otherwise you will be logging on here and leaving bad ratings for this class.

Dr. Babcock is not a very good teacher. I studied for the tests, but still got bad grades. Tests are very difficult and there is no study guide available. Not personable at all and acted very rude to me and several other students throughout the semester when asking perfectly normal questions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. TAKE A LANGUAGE.

Mr. Babcock himself, as some like to call him, is a really intresting professor. If one likes art history or literature this is the Hums. class for you! He is very articulate and usually very easy to listen to...although it is a lecture class.

Babcock is an awesome teacher. He is very articulate and well-learned. His tests are challenging, but if you pay attention in class, take good notes, and have half a brain you'll pass. If you don't listen or take notes, it's your own fault so don't complain about your stupidity.

Babcock is unbelievable boring, though he knows his stuff, its hard to understand it b/c i cant stay away. he only lectures, and is no help if you problems w/ things related to online work, and the tests are crazy hard i studied my butt off and got lower then the class average.. and the class average is a failing grade. Don't take the hybrid class!

I respect how much he seems to know about the subjects and he always makes sure to repeat things that he feels is important/is on the test. The tests are not cumulative. I really like the hybrid class because I can work at my own pace when I have time to and I can listen to any lecture again if I need to. He's really nice and I recommend him.

He thinks that you should be as excited about humanities as he is. Basically, he doesn't want you to just memorize facts. You have to live, sleep, eat and breathe humanities in order to pass the tests.

A wonderful professor. An obvious expert in the field of Western Culture. I learned a tremendous amount of the subject matter in his class and he challenged me to think about our origins. Cicero put it the best when he spoke on knowing history and this man has inspired me to put my trust in this.

He knows what he's talking about but its boring, and he repeats himself alot!! Don't take him, its rough. I'm taking the hybrid class and even though I only go to class once a week, I still have to do 3 lectures (which equals 3 class periods) and an online quiz. Sometimes there's even more! Its hard, but maybe because I don't enjoy the subject.

run far away. He's super boring and the seats in class are very cushiony so you want to fall asleep. Not a big help on assignments although you don't really need it. Lots of work. No help on tests and the tests are really hard. You'll study for 6 hrs and still fail. Hated the whole semester.

Dr. Babcock is passionate about what he teaches. There can be no other reason that a man would teach eight hundred sections of the same class every semester for a decade straight and still manage to have interest in his voice. He is very strict, though. He doesn't mess around with attendence. You have to study hard for the tests, too. They're hard.

Good guy, bad class. I was a 4.0 student until this class. Hardest class I have ever had, AND IT WAS A 100 LEVEL CLASS. His tests have 100 questions leaving you little time to think. He is also incredibly unsympathetic. He seems to think that if you did poorly that it is because you are not a good person.

Take this dude's DLP class! You just download his lectures, and then you take quizes. The quizes are straight from the fill-in-the-blank book, and they are so easy. From the looks of the other posts, avoid this guy's residential class at all costs.

The DLP HUMN 101 class is very easy, and more importantly, very interesting. The Prof does a great job at giving you objective information and tying it all into the Christian Worldview. Great class!!

Dr. Babcock does a marvelous job at illuminating certain events of the past and coalescing them with other significant events. I have a better understanding of the development of culture through his class and would highly recommend him to anyone. BTW most of the criticisms against him are unwarranted attacks from D students heading nowhere in life.

Bab**** class is absolutely horrible. The class is boring, and the teacher is very distant from the students. It seems as though he hates his job as well as the students. I do not recommend taking his class.

This is probably the WORST professor I've had at Liberty, and I'm a senior. Dr. Babcock is unorganized, boring, doesn't give study guides, takes awhile for grades, and he usually doesn't reply to emails. He's passionate and very knowledgeable about Humanities, but is a bad professor TAKE SEIPP!!!!

I took the hybrid class. The lectures are pretty dry. The first 5-10 min. are always reviews that are a waste of time. The quizzes over the lectures are online and easy. You have 4 tests that aren't too bad as long as you pay attention to the lectures and read over the notes. It's a dry subject and a dry class, but Babcock isn't too bad.

I loved this class. Listening to Dr. B. in class is much like reading a good non-fiction: tremendously stimulating if you're into it, actual work if you aren't. His tests were fair, but the fill-in notebook mostly gives the game away (though the facing blank page is there for a reason, people- use it). He's also a gifted writer.

The most boring prof I have ever had to sit through... He loves the sound of his own voice even though he has nothing to say... He repeats in class what he said in his online lessons. Take the hybrid version of the class. Listen to the online lectures in fast playback mode... Bring a computer to class. He requires attendance... Facebook or sleep

I took the hybrid class. I liked listening to the lectures instead of having to go to class as often, but the beginning of the lectures are always reviews of the previous, sometimes way too long. The actual class is the same stuff as in the lectures and a waste of time, but attendance is required. The quizzes are easy and the tests aren't too bad.

More than half the class time was him talking about tests, studying, same course lecture, and other filler stuff without any substance. BUT I learned soooo much from him on the online lectures. I especially loved how he connected the concepts of western civilization in the past to Western culture today.

He is very passionate about what he is talking about, and is VERY interesting. Those who find him dull are usually not paying attention or on facebook during his WONDERFUL lessons. Never have homework, just four open book quizzes and four tests straight from the notes. Very straightforward :)

Great and solid class. He was very organized with the structure of his notes and his lectures while keeping us up to date with tests and quizzes. If you open your mind to the subject you will really enjoy it and it is not hard to get a good grade especially if you really pay attention which is actually pretty easy in his class. take it

I love this guy. I appreciate a Professor that is passionate about his topic - - Babcock was definitely the case. His class is PRETTY WORDY, but the notes are just fill-in-blanks, so it's not hard to pay attention. 4 tests, NO HOMEWORK. Can't beat it..

I took this course online, and the textbook was incomplete because it had blanks in it which had to be filled in by listening very closely to a bunch of recorded audio lectures from his class. In the lectures, he showed visuals that I was not able to see. I didn't appreciate not having a complete textbook.

Don't be fooled by other comments of this professor being good. He is however, EXTREMELY knowledgeable but this class is just too difficult for a 100 level class. I have never felt such strong negative emotions until this class. I got tricked into taking him and I advise that you don't make the same mistake.

Dr. Babcock is a very good professor. He is knowledgeable with the material; you can tell he knows his stuff. I had him for honors and it was relatively easy as long as you did all the assignments. However, is grading is somewhat subjective, but I got an "A" without a problem. It can get really boring in class (3 hours long). Overall good class :)

Michael Babcock is perhaps the most tedious lecturer to ever enter into the educational field. Aside from the fact that we met next door to the Piano practice suite, it was a constant battle for me to remain awake in his class. Seeing as how no other professor teaches Humanities, you have to take him if it is in your course work.

Michael Babcock is the smartest humanities teacher in the western hemisphere according to harvard university. Graduated from north carolina, phd from minnesota. He has spoke at harvard and oxford. This means, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF. He may be boring at times, but he is a great teacher. I learned so much in this class.

Most students will find Humanities to be really tedious, but Dr Babcock is a great professor who seems passionate about what he teaches. He wants students to analyze what he's teaching and learn from it, not just memorize facts. The whole class is notes with 3 or 4 tests. You have to study, but they're straight from the notes

Babcock loves his subject and communicates both his passion and the material very, very well. He can seem a bit dry at times, but if you engage yourself in the topic at hand then you will enjoy the class. He does ask question to the class, and will meet with you outside of class. There's only four tests - no homework, no quizzes.

Babcock is knowledgable but lacks the ability to make the information interesting. Dry and boring would be most descritpive words for his class. No interaction with his students. Zero personality. Unless you have a passion for learning about Greek and Roman art, this class will put you to sleep.

He should be rated higher just based on his knowledge. The rating below mine is not my experience. While the class was difficult, you must realize he is paid to challenge us to think. I had no interest in this class at all originally. He has become my most respected instructor. A person who wishes not to learn should not take him for this class.

Do not take Babcock if you are a bad test taker. Your grade consists of 4 tests in Humanities. The tests are not easy. The man has an very dry sense of humor... He is nice enough. But not very approachable. I felt too intimidated to ever ask questions or for help.

Nice man but VERY BORING and somewhat dry. Your grade consists of 4 tests which are NOT easy. The questions are hard and hes hard to understand in class. If you're a bad test taker, you WILL FAIL.

This was a mandatory class for my BS degree. I am not sure why it's mandatory but the teacher is certainly knowledgeable but the material and his style can be confusing as he jumps from topic-to-topic. I feel that another class focused on my actual degree would be money better spent, instead of this course; however, he is a great teacher.

He is a nice guy and I really do like his subject matter now. Some people would find the class boring but I enjoy it. I do not however, recommend it early in the morning. You need to be attentive so that you don't need to study.

Dr. Babcock is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The only reason you wouldn't like his class is if you think you're still in high school and expect to be spoon fed.

I loved this class. I could listen to this guy talk about anything. He isn't an "exciting" speaker, but he is engaging and clear. He always answered questions I had in class, and his power points and notes were pretty visual. Only 4 grades: tests. They weren't easy, but they were straight out of the notes. He tells you exactly what to study.

This class was great for one thing, sleeping. I got a nap in almost everyday. He knows a ton about what he is talking about but he is so monotone and dry. There are only four grades and you have to put in hours upon hours of studying for each one to get a good grade.

Most amazing class ever taken at Liberty! I still listen to the lectures for fun, downloaded them from iTunes. Mr. Babcock is awesome at this subject and really incorporates the Bible so well. Best teacher I have ever had!

I've never had HUMN & loved this class. However, I am an online student & could listen @ my choosing. I reviewed very hard (12+ hours) for each test & earned A's. I especially liked how he related info to Scripture. Tremendous information & can't say enough good...for taking it online, that is.

Great teacher, loved listening to his lectures. The material is interesting and he has the ability to seamlessly integrate a Biblical worldview into a study of Western culture. There are 4 tests, no homework, notes are fill in the blank. This is good and bad, because although there isn't a lot of work, you HAVE to do well on the tests.

Professor Babcock is one of the most articulate teachers I've had. Although the lectures sometimes were a little boring, I never had any problems trying to understand what he was trying to explain. I also found it extremely nice that he emails students study guides a week before the tests.

Somehow this guy manages to get excited about the most boring stuff ever...props to him for being able to do that. Very dry sense of humor. I learned a lot from him, but I can't say that I was interested in the subject at all. He goes through roll call so we asked him to say "bueller" like the teacher from Bueller's day off but he wouldn't =(

Dr. Babcokc cares about this subject a lot but if you have no interest in this class it is not a very interesting class. I would advise you to take this class only if you have to or have a high interest level in humanities or the romans and old people.

The lecture is incredibly dry and boring. He is monotone and the information itself is not interesting so it is very hard to pay attention. The only grades are 4 tests and they are very hard. It is a hard class to pass (at least with less than extreme effort) unless you're naturally interested in old civilizations. RUN FOR THE HILLS.

Babcock was extremely boring and dry. He says everything in a way as if he MEANS to be interesting but it is just sad. He is strange and sends weird vibes. HIs tests are hard witha lot of information on them. There is no motivation to go to class whatsoever.

Professor Babcock is monotone and what makes it worse are the comfy theatre seats, but I have to say I learned a bunch of stuff from him such as study every night if you want to do well in the class. Great professor.

Not good. Don't take this regardless of it's a regular class or honors class. Regulars are hard because of quizzes and tests, and honors is soooooo boring. He talks in monotone, and his lectures are same everyday-Christianity VS Science...If you're honors, you write a 10pg paper instead of a Final exam. Only good thing: he's an easy grader

Awesome teacher, really. I am a visual learner and he kept my interest and by the end I loved the course. He is not monotonous as some people say, just has a voice that is not exciting in a dramatic sense. He does not spoon feed you, he gives you the information clear and concise and it is up to you to learn it.

If you ever have trouble paying attention in class, or tend to fall asleep, do not take this class! Yes he is a fairly nice guy, but he tends to drone on, making it hard to stay awake. His grading system is also off. He only had 4 tests in the semester, and if you're bad at test, you're out of luck. There is no extra credit. I don't suggest him.

Most people think he is really dry but I found his class fascinating. You can see how he loves the material and he knows how to apply it to real life. I took the Honors section--and thought it was relatively very easy.

He is one of the best teachers! He loves the material he teaches and makes it so interesting. He wrote the text book so everything is so strait forward. He also puts the quizzes online so they are open book. Very easy and enjoyable class!

He is soo knowledgeable on what he teaches. So passionate about History and you can definitely tell through his teaching. Has online open book quizzes for every chapter that are easy. The exams are difficult and there is only 3 including the final. I got a 100 on all the quizzes and didnt do great on exams and got a C+.. You'll do fine with effort.

This man manages to make a bland subject (such as roman architecture) actually very intriguing. Babcock is able to dissect the historical ways of thinking from centuries ago and show you how they have shaped the world today. I learned quite a bit!

This class was DREADFUL. He hardly teaches anything in class, and the quizzes online are awful. Some of the answers to the questions aren't even in the textbook. Do not take this class, for your sanity's sake.

Babcock made the history of English come alive! the man is a genius and has had so many neat life experiences that were fun to learn from. I felt so in awe of God in his class as we learned about language.

Easy class does not assign any work at all besides quizzes that you have to complete by the end of the semester, which are like only 14 questions for each chapter and you have an hour to do them. I would highly recommend him for humanities!

Prior to taking this class, I had no interest in history/cultural studies. However, Professor Babcock has a way of teaching that allows the student to feel like he or she is actually involved in the discussed time period. His clear passion for the subject makes the topic come to life and thus the class immensely intriguing.

Babcock is one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. I've asked many people what their favorite class is and everyone who has taken this class has reffered to it as their favorite. I have never taken such an interesting class before and Babcock is absolutely inspiring. Take this class. Most-likely you will not regret it. Plus its easy!

Professor Babcock is a very intelligent and well spoken teacher. The class was very interesting and thought provoking, but make sure you are well rested, because even for somebody who loved the class it can be a little bit drowsy at times. Overall great class, well presented, fairly easy tests, and travel opportunities galore. I would recommend him

Babcock takes a typically boring topic and makes it interesting. Straightforward multiple choice quizzes and tests that don't try to intentionally mislead you. Very helpful and understanding professor. Highly recommended.

I really liked Babcock. He had awesome style, and class was always fun. I would definitely have recommended this as an honors class (no tests!), except that as of today, he no longer teaches at Liberty University. I would love to know why. Farewell, Dr. B!

Wouldn't take again

Starting taking this class for the English major and then dropped the major. Tried to stay in the class just for the experience but this class made me really anxious - small group and discussion-based. He does not have humor about his name. For each paper you write - a peer conference and a one-on-one conference with him before your final draft.
