He has dry humor which makes him funny, and each PowerPoint is a summary of what chapter you should have read. Tests are simple, no cumulative final. Gives prompts before day of exam to be worked on and turned in online. I would take him again!
I honestly didn't think he would pull through with lightly grading my final paper compared to other written components, but he did! Textbook is sorta required for the papers. I didn't really read or take this class too seriously. His debates are easy and based on if you showed up that day. Honestly, a really nice guy who cares a lot!
Great professor and very engaging!
I enjoyed taking this course. There were several activities that gave students an opportunity to practice social skills and meet classmates. The materiel was challenging, yet interesting. I got the impression that he really wants his students to do well and he provides his students with support via email or office hours.
Take Baker for I/O, you will not regret it!! Easiest class ever. Offers so much extra credit, oh and did I mention all exams and the final are ONLINE!! I respect who he is as a professor and a person. He will be teaching in Irvine and the drive will be worth it for this class!!
He is honestly one of the best professors I've ever taken. He knows psychology so well and his lectures show it. He's a millennial like most students which makes him even cooler. Not only does he engage the class, but he makes everything he lectures about incredibly interesting. I would highly recommend to anyone. I would take him again.
Easy and caring professor. He wants his students to succeed. Every exam is online and he is there to see rough drafts of essays. In class excercises were fun but not neccesary. Offers a lot of extra credit! Easy A.
Best professor ever.
the material is boring, but the profeesor is funny. 3 exams that are in class(STUDY THE RESEARCH). Also, he takes attendance and requires a few short papers that are easy . overall, the class was okay.
He is a very passionate prof and a very funny one too. 3 exams (MC & take-home free response), not too difficult. Study all slides and skim through textbook, you'll be good. ASK QUESTIONS. He is the most approachable prof and wants nothing but for you to pass. Very organized and probably one of the best prof I've ever had.
Hes not bad. If class ends at 9:45 dont expect to be leaving anytime before that. Took him for night class, wouldve been better morning. Hes informative and talkative and will get you to talk with your neighbors.
He is a tough grader and isn't very clear on what he wants or requires for papers. Online tests were taken away from the class because our class did too well on the first test. Power point lectures everyday, and the tests are based on the book. Only points are from test and papers. He is a nice person, but unfortunately not a good teacher.
He is a tough grader that doesnt specifically outline what he wants. Class average was too high for the first test so know we have to take the test in class and not online. I thought it was going to be a flexible and informative class but rather it has become a traditional boring class.
His 3 tests are online, 2 parts. The multiple choice is fairly easy, but the written portion is ridiculous. I answered every part of the prompt but got a low score bc he's really peculiar about what he wants in your response. There's some in class activities worth points. Class is interesting but I'm taking an L bc his grading is discouraging
I liked him! Our class doesn't take the tests online anymore because some people cheated, but thats okay. He doesn't take attendance except for the days he says on the syllabus. 3 papers, 3 tests, and participation points. The tests are easy but he & his TA's grade hard on the papers. EX)I got docked points for using too many letters in my header..
Professor Baker's Psych 302 is way easier than other professors for that category. His exams are online, but you have to be present for class in order to get the power points (fill in the blank style). He also does essay questions for his exams but has them available weeks before so you're well prepared. Take him! Super sweet and young too!
Professor Baker is nice and understands that youre in college. He doesnt expect a lot and grades are made up of activities (which you have to attend for points), written portions of the exam, and multiple choice. I recommend doing the written portion before since he is meticulous with grading. Overall hes pretty great and tests are online!
Baker is a great professor. I would definitely recommend him. Psychology could be a tough subject but he made it nice and easy. Will definitely take him again!
Excellent charismatic lecturer, very approachable and caring. All exams were taken online, he gives a 24 hour period to take it on the test day, and the written portion requirements are released well in advance. The power points have empty spaces that require attendance to be able to fill in the blanks, otherwise it's near impossible.
Professor Baker has a dry sense of humor which for me, made class so enjoyable. He is easy going and makes lecture relevant to real life. I enjoyed his personality class and am taking another class with him again in Fall! His tests are all online (even for in class lecture) and his grading is straight forward which I appreciate. Take him!
Professor Baker is amazing and incredibly knowledgable! I would definitely take him and after taking his 331 personality class. It was so interesting and honestly for the most part pretty easy and not too much work. The tests were at home online as well. He is a very funny guy without trying and he made lectures interesting bc of his personality.
He is a nice professor but all he does is read off the powerpoint. I do not like how the class is only graded on 4 assignments, 3 tests and 1 essay. His tests are kind of tricky (bc of his wording) and not as easy as other reviews mentioned. Since we are graded by little things, it's hard to bring up our grades. Attendance is not required.
I thought this class was going to be doable. But it's definitely not. Your grade is only made up of 3 exams and a major 10-12 page paper. There is absolutely no room to bring up your grade at all. He is funny, but making the class impossible to bring up your grade doesn't give me a good impression of him. I wouldn't take this professor again.
The points for this class consisted of 3 tests and 1 paper. So if you do bad on the tests you dont have much room to bring up your grade. Tests are difficult and not clearly written, the answers are confusing, and the wording doesnt always make sense. Baker is a nice guy and has a dry sense of humor, but his classes arent easy.
He has a dry sense of humor, which I found funny! He really cares about his students & always offers help. He has 2 exams, 1 non-cumulative final, & 1 paper. His exams are based off his lectures & each Powerpoint has a study guide for what is on the exam. His exams are difficult, but if you do the study guides & refer to the book, you're golden.
there is a lack of wiggle room for his class. 3 exams, 1 paper. the paper is 10 pages and do not slack off! Choose your topic and begin looking for articles. He is slightly tough on the grading part I would say. I got a B on the paper. The exams are slightly difficult with his wording. Does not offer extra credit, come to class for the fill ins.
Prof. Baker is a great professor. His style is very straightforward - Lectures, 3 exams, 1 paper. If you keep up with the powerpoints, you'll pass easily. Book wasn't that necessary. He's really laid back and responds to emails quickly.
I got a C- in his class, at csuf, that doesn't count as passing for psych majors. Any professor who actually uses the +/- grade system is really full of it. Tests are so tough and tricky, he does this on purpose. Tests are worth everything, so this really sucks. I have to pay an extra $1,000 out of pocket to retake this class over 2%. Avoid.
Its a very structured class, he goes through powerpoints. One chapter every meeting and we have 3 midterms and the final (25 questions) and 4 essays and 4 debates. I liked the class because I knew what we were going to do and the material on the powerpoints was on the tests and we also have a review day and a study day were there is no meeting.
I took him last semester for personality psychology and got a high B. Took him this semester again for industrial psychology and got an A. Honestly, one of my favorite professors. Very accommodating, thorough lectures, and always emails back. 100% will take again. His teaching is wonderful and he cares about his students.
You can definitely tell professor Baker likes what he does. Great teacher and genuinely cares for his students to understand what is going on in class. The book was "mandatory" but we only used it for the first few lectures. The big assignments were 3 tests and a paper which he provides feedback on. Would definitely take again :)
Baker is honestly a great lecturer and allows students to engage in discussions during class. He has a literature review paper, exams, and extra credit points as "quizzes" to add onto the exam scores. His exams are based on his power points. I had him for both personality and developmental psych and I have told many to take his class,Do take him!!
One of the best Psychology professors I've ever taken! Lectures are straight to the point and ez to understand and digest. Tests are based off PowerPoint, sometimes almost word for word. Only real "HW" is notetaking and paper progression (ex: find 3 articles, or evaluate/analyze one article. Really sad I didn't take him person :(
Best professor! You're graded on 2 exams, 1 final, 3 note taking, 1 paper and 3 paper progressions. Tests are straight out of the notes, easy A. The paper does take time and research but it's a college class so. 10/10 would recommend! Definitely taking him for another class.
Professor Baker is probably one of the best psych professors at CSUF; I wish I could have him for all my classes. He explains concepts very well and encourages class discussion. The PSYC351 theories/concepts are also super interesting and applicable to life. Take very detailed notes and pay attention during in-class lectures and you'll do great!
Took PSYC351 with Professor Baker Fall21. It wasnt a hard class, but lots of content to learn and remember for the exams. His lectures were pretty slow and could get boring, which made it hard to want to come to class. 3 exams and 3 small reflections. The essays were used to satisfy the writing requirement. They werent cumulative either.
grade is based off of 3 tests, 3 discussion posts only. no chance to really bring up the grade if you mess up on the tests which takes up the overall grade. lectures are 2 hour long videos. Powerpoints doesn't really help much. I would avoid taking him. His teaching technique doesn't work for me
The class was based off 3 test and 3 post. The test were 2 essay questions (worth 40 points) and 20 short answers (1 point each). Honestly this is a very subjective grading system he has because how are you going to base your whole class off essays? Makes zero sense. would not recommend taking if you're not a strong test taker.
A DIAMOND in the rough. Baker is clearly passionate about teaching and it comes through in every class. Engaging lecturer who uses easy to understand research, personal anecdotes and encourages class discussion. Being very present during lecture and taking good notes is essential - grade based mainly off 3 exams. Honestly, phenomenal teacher.
hes okay. not super interesting as he just lectures each class. tests are pretty hard. there's 2 essays, 4 exams, and 4 homework assignments so if you don't do well on any you're not gonna get a great grade. he wants the students to do well tho so email him with questions and attend class and you should do okay
Take good notes and ask questions and you'll do fine. 3 exams based on lecture and discussion and 3 small easy paragraph. Papers helped with understanding content
His lectures are interesting and relatable. He really gets everyone involved. Cares about his student's success and will make himself available after class. Would recommend.
He makes class interesting. Just a few regular assignments and 2 easy papers. Pay attention to lecture and take good notes and you'll be good.
Professor Baker's class on industrial/organizational psychology is one of the most engaging and interesting courses I have taken so far.
Professor Baker's knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject matter is contagious, and he manages to make even the most complex concepts easy to understand. Three exams with multiple choice and some short response questions. Easy lecture question assignments. Take good notes, participate and you can do well.
I always look forward to attending Baker's class. Some of the material can be tough theory, but he relates it to our own life. He provides good examples and always takes time to answer student questions. Attend lecture, take good notes. Most of the stuff on tests are from the lecture. He's super flexible and caring.
Professor Baker's class on social psychology is absolutely fascinating, and I always look forward to attending. He makes class interactive with interesting discussions and quick activities. 1 short paper, 3 exams, some smaller easy assignments with the lecture. Take good notes and you can do well.
I loved this class the most. This professor offered a good amount of real-life examples. He was very clear about all the theories we went over. He provides all the information you just need to study. The Ta's were amazing with the study session. Highly recommend you go to those.
He uses a textbook, but it is freely available online. Most of the assignments and exams are from the notes in class. Go to class and take good notes and you can do well. Tests can be a challenge, but you cin make up for it with other smaller assignments.
I'm currently in his class and enjoying it so much. The topic itself is so interesting and what adds to the it are the small discussions or group activities. Everything is in the notes form lecture which he makes easy to understand. Make sure to ask questions and visit office hours. He is easy to approach outside class.
Fairly easy class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should still attend & take good notes since some of the stuff he goes over in his in-person lecture is not posted on Canvas. He does only grade you on a few things but as long as you pay attention, have good & VERY thorough notes, and refer to the textbook then you should be able to do well.
He makes the class super manageable and applicable. He always available after class for quick questions or clarification. There is a lot of information, but he makes it digestible and is always helpful. A few exams based mostly on the notes, a paper which you can select your own topic, and a few other smaller assignments.
Prof. Baker doesn't require attendance, but includes lots of great topics and activities/discussions that make you want to attend. Take good notes and ask questions. He is always there to provide good examples and clarify information. A few exams and questions based on the lectures and a paper.
While he is a bit lecture heavy and has challenging material with lots of theory and research, you should be fine if you attend and take good notes. I wish I went to his office hours sooner as he is always very helpful. Don't hesitate to ask questions or get additional examples.
He gives some of the most interesting lectures that I've had in this department. He cares about all of his students success. His exams can be hard if you are not prepared in advance. You can find most everything in the notes. Don't procrastinate on the paper and be sure to reach out to him. Some open ended questions in the class and on the exam.
Genuinely such a cool professor. His lectures are straight forward and engaging. Take notes during class as exams are open notes! 3 exams (online), 1 paper (+3 small paper progressions), 3 reflections (:
He's great, I wish I got to take him in person. Can seem like a lot of work but it's really not if you space it out. Easily manageable online course. I love his lectures and material.
I took this class because the good reviews he had but in the end I hate this class and never seen a professor so unprofessional, he litterally yelled at my class for no reason... he doesn't give feedback at all on assignments, he also wasn't here almost every Thursday we were supposed to have class, his lectures are read off the board & him talking
I wish I had a better experience with this professor. His instructions for in-class assignments were not always clear, causing me to lose points. He was a bit rude to me when I went to office hours, which was disappointing. There were 3 group assignments and because it was an online class, it was difficult to meet with peers.
I took his class again because I had him last semester, but he changed everything :(! He's still a good professor, but the use of technology is not allowed in class, you have to take notes by hand, exams are in person as well as in-class assignments. I think this was his first time switching it up, because the assignments just kept piling up ;-;
I decided to take this professor again but he ended up changing everything. We could not have our phones or laptops out, so we had to handwrite our notes, and he didn't have his lecture slides up, he only wrote topics on the board. For me it was a big change, just letting people know in case they would prefer taking notes on their computer! :)
His class is very notes heavy. Take good notes, ask questions and you can do well. There are a lot of assignments, but manageable if you take your time with them.
Professor Baker is so engaging in his lectures. He makes you take notes on paper, which i wasn't used to at , but learned to love it. He kept me paying attention and enjoying the information. Attendance is mandatory.
I really enjoyed his lectures. The topics are really interesting and personally relevant. He does a good job of including as many people as possible. There are several in class and group assignments. Be prepared to work hard. Exams are doable if you take good notes.
He says he uses a book, but everything you need to know comes from the notes. Pay attention to the lecture and you can do fine. I'm taking it as online class and you have to be self motivated, but he has always been available.
I just finished an online psych 331 class with him as my instructor and his lectures were very interesting. He breaks them down into segments so it is easier to listen and understand.
Attendance is checked, but his discussion and lectures make you want to attend. Every assignment and exam comes straight from the lecture. He breaks things down so it's easy to follow.
This was an online class so attendance wasn't mandatory, but participating in the lectures were. He makes it so easy to listen because things are broken down in little segments. The assignments are related to the content and help with understanding the material. I was always super understanding and cares alot about his students.
We've just started and already he seems very caring and knowledgeable. He does a good job of explaining and giving good examples.
I do not understand how this professor has these good reviews, If I were you trust the negative reviews more because I am currently in class and he is pretty rude to us during his office hours and class, he does not have an actual power point lecture and is not much help. I regret listening to rmp bc he's not what he seems.
I get what people mean he is a bit direct. He structures his course interesting where he gives you one units work all at once to work on until the day of the exam. His lectures arent long and overall coursework in manageable. study for the exams and take good notes. His exam questions/prompts are so nitpicky and his TA's grade the exams SO HARSHLY
This professor is amazing, he explains concepts very thoroughly and makes lectures engaging. He had handwritten notes only which actually wasn't too bad. There are three exams, reflections on chapters and chapter activities. You need to attend or you will get behind. He did not require textbook readings, everything is based on lecture.
If you are a visual learner, don't take this professor. I really did enjoy his lectures but he had NO SLIDES whatsoever and it was very difficult to keep up with the lectures since you had to write down what he said quickly. If there were power points to help me visualize the studies he discussed in class, I feel like I could have performed better
Professor Baker has been one of the best PSYC professors at CSUF. His lectures are exciting, but you may not like them if you are a visual learner. His lectures are all verbal, and he writes key ideas on the whiteboard. He prefers that students write notes by hand, as tech is distracting. He is a very caring and interesting professor.
I don't love him and I don't hate him. He explains the material well and he is very knowledgeable as an individual, however his exams are annoying. They are about 6 FRQ questions and you have an hour to finish. It seems like a good amount of time but the questions are very specific in what they are asking for. His TAs grade very harshly as well.
I feel like I learned a lot in this class and he had great lectures but I found him to be WAY too political. It doesn't matter if you agree with his opinions or not, I find it's just inappropriate to push politics THAT much in a class that is not about politics. Very opinionated but overall I learned a lot about social psychology which was nice!
He's a very caring instructor. I liked the adjustment to hand writing notes because I could focus without distraction.
His class was more interesting than I thought it would be coming into it. You have to take good notes, which can be tricky because he sometimes goes fast. He is good about about repeating things and will provide extra examples if you ask. Exams are right form the notes. I really enjoyed seeing a real application to otherwise dense theory.
He knows his content well, and will help you if you reach out, he makes the class fair as possible for anyone to achieve! He allows notecards for exam which are very helpful so you don't have to focus on memorizing the actual lectures but actually understand the content and be able to apply it. His teaching strategy one of the best I have ever had
My only issue is his whole no technology rule. honestly literally every other class I have that allows technology for note taking I have a FAR better experience taking notes. I am a faster typer than a writer and it can be tough catching up and you dont wanna be saying can you repeat that after every sentence he says.
This professor is not good at all, don't take him i don't know why he has good reviews he is the worst at teaching, no lecture slides and exams are hard he expects too much, also i felt like he was a little bit of a bully towards some students which is so unprofessional for a person who literally teaches Psyc 391 DONT TAKE HIM
Professor Baker is such an understanding professor.I have to say he is at times a little awkward but it's what makes him funny. He does do heavy lecture no pp slides. Another thing is that he doesn't allow electronics in class for note taking (has a valid excuse). He is very helpful when helping with any assignments and accessible outside of class.
I took prof baker for social psych and he is the best! his lectures are really good, and he lets you use a notecard for the tests. he is extremely helpful, and genuinely cares for his students. just pay attention in lectures and take good notes and you'll be fine!
