not clear on what we should do to do well.
unlcear and unfairly though of a grader
All these negative comments about Professor Bamberg are unfortunate because it just means that these students did not get to experience the brilliance and the exhurberence that is Professor Bamberg. I have great respect for him and his teaching!
That last rating has to be either a joke or written by one of his butt-kissing supplicants. Bamberg and what "teaches" are wastes of time.
a pointless, frustrating class; his lectures are boring; he treats students with little respect
I don't share the two previous raters' values - at all. Maybe they have some problems or issues that most of us don't see. I had a very productive half semester. Okay, it was a lot of work, but I don't mind. Maybe that's their problem?
He is very demanding, but I got a lot out of his class. I just don't understand how anyone can blame this class or the profesor for not getting anything out of it! So, don't believe those losers who take this as their opportunity for a vicious revenge!
I'm doing well in Bamberg's class. I'm not "taking revenge" (and I doubt that anyone here is doing that). I don't think Bamberg is a very good teacher and I don't enjoy the material. The course is required, so be prepared to make up your own min
I like professor Bamberg, but I think that's because I participate and talk in class, and he is very encouraging - however, if you're not prepared to participate, you probably won't get a very good grade.
I did Psych 107 a year ago and really enjoyed it. My kind of psychology! He was very helpful but it was a lot of work.
I dropped the class, he convinced me to major in something other than psych. He loved me until the day that I told him I was dropping the class and then he took back all the nice things he had said about me. His class is useless. He sucks.
I'm having him this semester. My advice is to get involved on the first day and then stay involved, in particular with the project. And you'll do fine. And go for the extra-help session. It helps.
I hate Bamberg. He singled me out from the rest of the class, and i guess decided to make me his project or something. He kept telling me i wasn't trying when i really was. Then he said he would help me but he didn't.
its required for a reason- the material is important no matter what you want to do in psyc. If you think that you don't need to know the things that are taught in this class for psychology, maybe you should pick a new major.
you'll do fine in this class if you go in with an open mind, and then take the lack of structure in the observation project and use it to your own benefit. Plus he is an extremely nice guy and always very helpful.
i liked his class a lot.
Bamberg thinks too highly of himself. He studies abstruse topics in psycholinguistics and thinks he something of a "god" in the department. He looks down on undergraduates and often ridicules them if they have ideas that oppose his way of thin
no longer a psych major because of this class (its more stevens' fault though). enough said.
does interesting research, but what does that have to do with this class? lectures and quizzes were in no way related to our project. sometimes rude to students who had different opinions.
Lots of work, but great course. Helpful professor and important information for Psych majors.
my kind of psychology. However, it should be taught for a full semester not just half
Interesting perspective on psychology research. He seems to know what he´s talking about
I think this course should have some kind of a warning label on it, something to the effect of, "Anyone who takes this course is liable to do up to 8 hours of work on this course on any Monday." Still, Bamberg is extremely effective in his teach
Horrible prof
Great professor. His class is interesting and informative. This class will take some effort so people who are expecting something easy should probably consider changing their major. But other than that, he is a very nice person and I enjoyed his class.
Funny guy. Readings are solely for quizzes and classs chat. Observation project is somewhat unclear, and can be hard to figure out what you're supposed to be diong or looking for. He tries to help without giving you the exact answer in realtion to the obsevation. Good prof, would reccommend.
The main reason why I am leaving a rating is because Prof. Bamberg is an obsessive ratemyprofessor.com checker. It's really quite funny. But he's a pretty interesting professor with some fun and interesting stories. The work load is a lot but not overbearing. He's a nice guy and tries his best.

doesn't respect students views, will embarrass you in front of the class. readings had nothing to do with the class material. observation project was unclear. never graded anything on time.
Dr. Bamberg is obsessive about many things execpt cleaning his cluttered office. He really cares about the students and although he may seem tough and somewhat unorthodoxed, he is a disciplined academic and a good man. Recommended!
Good class, Bamberg made clear what to expect. Lot of work, but you walk away knowing something!
I love bamberg. even though there is a crazy amount of extra work, once you get used to the routine it's not that bad. His part of psych researche methods is far more interesting then stevens' and i would remcommend taking a class with bamberg, plus his accent is great!!
great class, great professor, though I was really scared of having to take it.
Bamberg was my Advisor and he was truly great to me for all 4 years at Clark. I wish he wasn't on sabbatical for the second semester of my senior year, but he made sure to keep in touch when needed. I learned the most from him than any of my other psych professors.
I hate him so much
Professor Bamberg is a horrible professor who does not care what anyone thinks - unless you agree with him of course. He is not a professor that encourages individual thought and opinions. I recommend that you wait until Bamberg goes on another sabatical before taking any of the mandatory psych classes that he teaches.
There's a lot work in this class but he's a good professor. He's very interesting and very into what he does.
very into the material... demanding but a good professor
Professor Bamberg has assigned us at LEAST a 2 page paper for every day of class. they were called "reaction" papers, but all he wanted was a summary!! He plays favorites, and he has instuled me in the past.
Uh, first of all, Psych 192 does not exist, and I believe that comment was made about 193. The professor is very biased and tends to play favorites, sometimes even a little immature. I enjoyed the class, but it was quite demanding for a first-year class. We were warned, though...

He is a good guy but he lacks organization skills and some of his research is a little questionable.
Crazy and hillarious. Easy work, but weird assignments. Very helpful outside the classroom.
he does play favorites and it's impossible to figure out how he choses who he favors. overall if you show interest and participate, it'll make the class easier. as for the "2 pgs per class", get the ef over it because he has no final exam and the final paper is 10 pgs of b.s. that require no research.
I took 107 last semester and we did a lot of really interesting readings in that class - no s. The research project was great: really connected, and the whole class was into it. The previous poster definitely was not in our class, definately not!
I second that. Definitely a good class, we worked hard, learned alot and we really enjoyed him and his TA. He knows what he's teaching and made class fun. I would have dropped psych if it wasn't for this class, seriously.
Bamber is intelligent and knows how to teach a research class. The class is what you make of it, you work hard, to squibs, read the articles you should be fine. Some adivice, contribute to class lectures and on blackboard forums (its is a % of final grade), on quizes incorporate prior readings that aplly to subject matter. TA is great and helpful.
Great class. Lots of good readings (but I don't mind). Good professor. Not at all what I expected.
Never. Take. Bamberg. I realize that you might not be able to avoid taking 107 but be prepared for a LOT of ambiguity. If attendance for quizzes wasn't mandatory, you could stay in your room, teach yourself, and get a better education than the confusing mess I was subjected to. Just become one of his favorites and you're all set to pass with an A.
it was a very good course. I learned a lot. He did give a decent amount of work but that's what helped. I ended up loving this course and I hope to take another course with Professor Bamberg before I graduate
Suck up, your grade depends on it.

Truly passionate about what he is teaching. Classes were very interesting, cares about the opinions of the students. There is a bit of reading, but it's not difficult. I dreaded taking this class, but in the end I really enjoyed it, great professor.
He is very passionate about what he teaches, and is a very animated prof. which makes the class fun. Your grade depends on how hard you work-- if you do the readings and stuff you'll be fine. But whatever you do, don't yawn! he get's very insulted!
Work put into class in no way correlates to grade.
bamberg can be a little unclear in what he's trying to explain sometimes and if you don't have a pla that's good at translating him for you, it can be frustrating at times. other than that, the class is all right and i definitely learned some stuff. hopefully this is a good enough post to make it into his lecture...
He is a terrific teacher.
This class was one of the best classes I have taken. I am so glad that this is a requirement for the major because you would be missing out without being a part of this amazing learning experience. All assignments are useful and practical, those who do not like this class were just too lazy to manage their time well and blame it on the professor...
I really, really, really really enjoyed this class. It's hard, definitely, but worth the effort. He is extremely passionate and a little flighty but he, eventually, gets his point accross. If you do the work and really try to understand what he is getting at it is an amazing experience. Changed my perspective on a lot of things. Gotta love Bamberg!
Understand, going into this class, you aren't taking a 200-level course. There is an emphasis on reading AND writing your experiences. It gets boring at times because there is much repetition. He's a great guy to talk to, but not be lectured from. And it's one way or the highway. Figure out what he likes and just keep doing that: biased professor
Bamberg may be the most interesting man I have come across yet in this lifetime. He is extremely intelligent and interesting to listen to. He can be confusing and he goes off on a lot of tangents. Don't sleep or yawn in his class!
Prof Bamberg is a passionate prof, however, his grading is biased and is genuinely unconcerned with students who aren't doing either fantastic or terribly. He leaves students in the middle to falter and does little to help. He believes his class is a learning experience, but i learned from him only how biased and unwilling to help some profs are.
Prof Bamberg is amazing! If you are a hard worker and are genuinely interested in dedicating yourself to the course, you will be golden in his classes!! His classes definitely cater to people are are willing to work hard and apply themselves. If that's not you and you're looking to breeze by, you can still take him but you def won't get an A...
It was because of him that I no longer wanted to study psych because that would mean i'd have to take another class with him. Very unclear, would make assignments by email the evening before they were due, too dependent on email, never says what he expects or lists examples. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone. I also know he'll read this outloud. HI!
Bamberg's classes are a lot of fun. He taught me a whole new way to think about interpersonal conversations.
I don't think he cares a lot whether you major in psych or not. I had him in the FYS and in 107 and he was my fa. He did a good job in helping me figure out that psych really wasn't my thing. Thank you, Bamberg, seriously! By the way, his FYS was a great start at Clark!
GREAT man. His class is hard, no doubt about that. But he is passionate and makes you want to jump up and love it as much as he does! He's all over the place most of the time but that just makes him even more loveable. Good man.
bamberg is a nice guy, very relaxed and funny. it helps that he knows how to laugh at himself. he's a little unorganized though... but he means well.
This class is a lot of work, but what I've learned thus far will stick with me. He pushes the student into become actively involved in his or her own learning process. It is hard at times, but keeping on top of all the work makes it much easier. At first I hated all the Blackboard postings, but it has facilitated in gaining new knowledge more than
Best professor at Clark. Really cares about his students and whether or not they are learning. He is absolutely brilliant and interesting. 109 is a lot of work but a GREAT class!
Prof. Bamberg's brilliance is only surpassed by his passion for the subject matter [And LEARNING] and his ability to mentor students. Fantastic in every way.
Crazy guy...awesome class.
he is an awesome professor, i had him for a first year seminar.. funny and wacky
A brilliant teacher, but somewhat absent-minded. I really enjoy Discouse, Self, and Coolness with him.
He cares about his students much more than any professor I've ever had before. He really knows his stuff, and he makes all lectures interesting. He uses alot of humor and really takes the time to get to know his students. Awesome professor!!
He iwas always too busy to get into contact with. He often made disrespectful or rude jokes that are not always funny. He tends to be all over the place and he was rather contradictory. Especially what he told us about projects...he said one thing and then changed his mind once he graded a project. The TA's also are extremely rude.
I found Professor Bamberg to be rather rude and distant. He was my first (major) advisor. Very funny in the first class. Too bad qualitative psychology is an awful subject. Andbecause he teaches so many freshmen, he gets overloaded with advisees (see how many reviews he has?); he will not care about you unless you are one of his top students.
Difficulty w/ communication. He will fail you EVEN if all the work is done, all classes attended, and knowledge is demonstrated. Simple class- plays favorites.
Will fail you even if: all work complete, done well, and all classes are attended. Nit-picks sometimes
At Clark, I had a great respect and admiration for all faculty. This changed when I took a low-level Psych class w/ Mr. Bamberg. He exposed his awful attitude about the basic class, continuously reminding the class of his sentiment, it escalated into an uncomfortable situation and environment for a class of, over 60, fellow unfortunate students.
Professor Bamberg is a total badass! The only reason people leave bad comments about him is because they didn't go to class/didn't do the readings. If you do all the assignments, you'll be fine and you can truly appreciate the awesomeness that is Bamberg.
Bamberg's Qualitative Psych class: I was failing the class. I approached Bamberg and told him how I was doing. He said if I went to class he would put more weight on the final assignment and take weight off the one I failed. He came through! He lets TA's grade open response quizzes. Know you TA! Lots of work in the field
Gives the most confusing instructions I've ever heard. Extremely non-understanding. Assignments are repetitive and unnecessary. Instructions for assignment a are either not there or not helpful, because you will end up not writing it the right way anyway. I hate this class- would not recommend unless necessary.
He is a nice guy and he's really funny. You just gotta have a open mind and realize that he gives you the freedom to make the class fit you.
Very unhelpful, shouldn't be teaching first years.
Bamberg is a great guy but I'm not sure he's a great professor. He assigns a lot of work and it usually takes a long time to complete. He is also very vague and if you fall behind it is very hard to et back on track. His class is the hardest I have taken at Clark so far (also a first year so that's not saying much).
I took this class, Discourse, Identity and the Critique of Romance for my FYI and I absolutely loved it!! Bamberg is such a smart guy and he genuinely loves teaching and inspiring his students. He definitely does assign quite a bit of homework, though. If you take his class make sure you're genuinely interested in the subject matter.
He's amazing. I took his class, became his PLA and then assistant. Very inspirational, class can be hard and lots of reading and writing, but as long as you try and pay attention and think, he wont be that tough. hes been a mentor and inspirational figure for me, thankful that i have met him my first year in college!
eh, hes a great guy, and i respect his teaching method, but hes just not for me. Intimidating a bit.
You learn a lot in this class with him as your prof. One of the hardest classes I have taken here. Doesn't feel like a level 100 class. Put in the work , do all the readings, and you'll get a decent grade. Warning, he doesn't believe in grades. It's all about how you progress in the class, which determines your grade.
I made the mistake of having his as my first advisor; he was absolutely cold and unsupportive. His class, Qualitative Psych, was relatively easy but uninteresting except for the final inteview project.
Extremely vague and unclear about grading and communication. If you get behind, he won't be very helpful. He's a crazy genius who is very harsh and has very specific expectations that aren't easy to obtain. If you need to take 109, wait for a different professor.
Great teacher. Lot of work, but worth it.
Super amazing professor. You have to get used to the way that he teaches class and the expectations he has for you. But all he really cares about is that you try your best to understand the material and give an honest effort.
Get ready for hours of work each week: it's not super *hard* but it is very time consuming. Weekly discussion meeting required but often you must have extra meetings too. Self reflection papers every single week, quizzes sometimes twice a week, "squibs" (reading summaries) due with each reading. Very unique teaching style. Overall, he's a smart guy
Michael Bamberg is a smart man but is very confusing. The work he assigns is a lot of busy work and doesn't add to your understanding of the material. He is very vague when assigning homework and tells his PLAs to do the same thing. Bamberg doesn't respect his students is rude to students when they have a different viewpoint or opinion than him.
Bamberg is a great professor but his teaching style is definitely not for everyone. This class is really what you make of it, which I think is good for some and not for others. If you're someone that needs lots of structure, consider a different one. For me it worked very well and his course is my favorite course I've taken at Clark so far.
the prof and the class are so weird. he's really vague about assignments and doesn't want the PLAs to tell the students anything about the class (so what's the point of them). so many readings and some are like 30 pages. he's an interesting guy but once again, weird. quizzes about the readings basically every class. LOT of work! but it's possible
Prof Bamberg doesn't really care about his student. Has a few favorite students and is hard grader on the rest. Can do all work show up to every class and still fail. Even if you don't fail, he grades low unless he loved your final paper. Don't recommend especially for first-year students. He wastes a lot of paper by requiring everything printed.
Bamberg is the most arrogant, horrible professor I have unfortunately have had to deal with. He assigns massive amounts of homework and the setup of his course is so unnecessarily complex and confusing, he cannot take criticism about himself, his work, he probably thinks he's God's gift to the world
Worst professor ever! There's no way he should be teaching a required PSYC course because he's making something that should be a broadening experience, misery. He doesn't care when his students are struggling. His response to students telling him they're overwhelmed is GET OVER IT! Wouldn't take another class with him if someone offered to pay me!
When I came into this class I didn't know what to expect. I'm glad I stuck through it because I learned more than I ever thought I would. Professor Bamberg is a genuis who is passionate about his work but also does not hesitate to help his students. Can truly say he helped me go from a D grade to an A grade in a matter of months. Great TA/PLA too!
Professor. Bamberg is a deep thinker who made significant achievements in his field. Even though his teaching style is a bit challenging and could be changed in some ways, there's much value in what he teaches. Professor. Bamberg's course challenged me continuously to grow and learn unlike any other course I took.
Prof. Bamberg seems very nice, but it felt like the class had no structure when it was an FYI and there should have been. His instructions and grading criteria were unclear most of the time and we had to have our peer mentor talk to him multiple times to get a syllabus out of him a month into class. He is also extremely hard to find out of class.
Bamberg is interesting. He is definitely very intelligent, but is almost too intelligent for the students he works with, and especially should not be teaching first-semester first-years. I was given a single letter grade at the end of the semester based on overall effort, I think? The class was not organized. We had to schedule our own syllabus.
can't stand him; plays favorites; obnoxious and stuck-up
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!!!!!
Run!!!!
RUNNNNN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! He is so intelligent however he has no class structure. He does not teach.. He has TA grade all of our assignments but theyre graded so weirdly. Not helpful.
my advisor, still run.
By far the worst prof I've had during my time at clark; between the horrid workload, incredible disorganization, and overall lack of respect for students, I'm not sure how his rating isn't considerably lower. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Bamberg is misunderstood! He is caring and funny. People go in having the wrong impression of him. I was scared at first to go to class, but then he turned out to be amazing! He has been very accommodating to me with all of my SAS accommodations as well! Bamberg is never the issue, it's more of his TA's in the class that were the problem for me.
I took Bamberg's class in my first semester. He started off kind but became dismissive and unprofessional. He ignored my legal accommodations, told me I wouldn't need them, and said there was nothing I could do to succeed. After I broke my leg, he failed me despite approved remote attendance. He should be fired. Avoid his class.
So bad. Do not take. There are two essays per week, and I don't think I learned a single thing from taking the class. Has been rude to students regarding feedback and seems unable to take criticism. So much work for zero reward.
RUNNNNNNNNN!!!! He is rude, and very dismissive. I've had a meeting with him for extra help, and all he said was "i am not happy to help you" please run don't take the class..... RUNNNNNNNNNN
