I took him in the summer. i didn't learn one thing from his class, never bought or read the books and got an A. Since the class was 3 hours long, i took long walks by the beach and hung out in cafeteria :)
If you get a chance take the class in the mini module. Gives 2 easy essays and the final isnt that hard as well.
Wow the best sleep I ever had! I took him during winter and I didn't learn anything. I walked away with a B+. He never says HI in the hallways even if you two are the only ones there. He's easy-2 essays.
The best sleep i ever had. Took him in the winter, got easy A. All he gave was 2 easy essays and final, which was an essay too. If u want to get an easy A take him.
good teacher. Class is interesting and has controversial discussions. Class is very easyif you just show up and participate in class discussion.
Prof Barnhart's class was very interesting and I learned that my opinions aren't always right. Great class to take and a great professor.
Although the class is pretty boring hes very very easy. Basically all you have to do to get an A is show up and do his 2 essays. I recommend him.

veeeeeeeeeeery boring.had some good naps in his class. it's not his fault though he really tries but he is just so dull.
starts off ok - kind of interesting - but goes way downhill from there. he def. knows his stuff but he just says it. asks a question and then answers it himself. don't really recommend it unless you want to read the material.
if u hate writing essays do not take his class. he makes u write 3-4 pages of controversial issues he brings up in class. the papers are really not that easy to write up and his class is boring as sin.
He is by far the most boring person i've ever encountered. His voice is low and monotone, and he just babbles on about the most boring stuff. Every class, atleast 3 or 4 people go to sleep. I am thankful that the semester is over.
Very good, knowledgeable, interesting professor; just pay attention and write good notes. The key to an A is: 1. come to class every day. 2. do the reading assignments daily. 3. CLASS PARTICIPATION!!! 4. hand in the 2 essays on time
Not the worst prof. in the kcc. He explains everything. In order to get a good grade,do 2 essays, read books, and participate in class discussions. Good Luck!
he tries to make the class fun.the class might be a bit boring but its not his fault its a 3hr class.he is an easy grader.you shouldnt have a problem passing his class if you do the 2 essays and do the reading.take as much notes as you can they are very helpful when it comes to doing the essays.
this class really depends on your taste in a subject and a type of teacher you are willing to listen to.Philosophy might be boring for some and more interesting for others.Barnhart is an intelligent teacher. You have to write two papers for him and be in class on time.
He is OK. Although reading Kant and Hume was pretty boring and difficult, I did get an A. All that I did - wrote 2 short essays + a final exam. However, I was very determined!
Very boring guy, he may put you to sleep, but I learned a lot in his class,he doesn't give test,he does give a final, but he had a choice he wouldn't. Very hard final, do well on his papers and dont worrie about the final, he does count it. if you get a B an A on the paper condsider those your grade
Professor Barnhart is a very good professor and makes the class very interesting. However, he is a little mean! You try to be friendly to him and he kind of ignores you. He doesn't really have a good personality but I would recommend taking his class if you are interested in philosophy and a good essay writer--two essays and one final exam!
Just two take home essays, one test based on first take home essay, and one final based on second take home essay. Got B+ and I am satisfied with it. About him, well, he will make you sleep because of his tone sound
BORING! beware you will fall asleep in his class
he is an ok teacher .he gives two take home essays and a final. if you do good on the two essays then u should not have a problem.
very easy proffesor i did two essays got a B and B+ and the midterm a B and at the end he gave me an A- but you got to talk to him and let him know if you miss something so you can make it up very nice prof.
Boring and very nasty...most professor's I've encountered at KCC were very friendly and polite. I try to say hi to him and he doesn't even acknowledge that I'm there. As far as a teaher, he's ok. He is fair, I will admit that but he's not someone I'd like to sit down, have a cup of coffee and a conversation with.
this teacher is excellent.his class is boring but if you do the essays that he gives you should pass no problem.if you like to sit and listen and like to write essays then this class should no be a problem.
This guy is so boring. The first day of class a girl went to sleep. Easier to read the book since he says the exact same thing. Thank god I passed that class.
A great professor who loves his subject. If you are not planning on participating in class, you'll be bored. Otherwise, you get a lot of info and his class helps you to undestand the material in the book. His test reviews are excellent.
he is the worst teacher ever!!..he sucks at teaching..i have no idea what he is saying in class..totally boring!!
very interesting class and very nice professor he is always ready tohelp the students
At first this class seemed so confusing but then I got the hang of it. It seems a lot harder than it is. You just have to think a little bit. I didn't do most of the reading and I got a b in the class. As long as you do the 2 essays you will pass the class. Again it seems a lot harder than it is but its really easy.
He is nice and helpful. He may seem hard, but as long as you put in effort to do the essay, then you will get a good grade. If you have trouble writing the essay, he will help if you ask
Prof. Barnhart is ok. You have to participate in his class otherwise you'll be bored. Also, you really have to read the book or you'll be confused. Hard to get an "A", you have to earn it. I was shoked to see an "A" as my final course grade, I thought noone in his class has ever gotten "A". (It wasn't easy to get A). Overall, he's okey.
OMG! Please do not take this professor! AVOID HIM! From the first day I listened to this teacher, I had absolutely no idea what the hell this teacher is saying. Thank God I dropped this class before it was too late! Take Repetti or Edelheit. They are way better!!!
Professor Barnhart's classes aren't really that difficult except that you have to be reading the textbook to actually understand what he explains in class. Usually, his classes are boring as hell and the only way to not be bored is to participate. The only thing I can't stand is the way he talks but everybody has their own way of teaching. Not bad.
I like his class! not easy but interesting
Barnhart is a boring professor. he teaches in this monotone voice that has the power to put even the caffenine junkies to rest.textbook reading is vital.without that you will be lost.he tends to write only 3 words on the board a day so note taking is all from verbal debates.(((please pass on this teacher))) you will thank me.
Wasnt such a bad class. Allows lots of class participation. Willing to give you the opportunity to hand in papers before time for guidance and help. Overall i think he did pretty well for me :)Only read the text to write papers and for the final. he pretty much talks it all through in class.
Avoid like spoiled milk. This guy is cant teach. No hand outs, Dose not write on the board (all but maybe three illegible words) just talks in the front of the class. He seems like a nice guy but his teaching skills lack and you will suffer for it. He can not explain the material her teaches in a way for people to understand. AVOID!
pro. Barnhart is a fine pro. He always try to make the point clearer about each philosopher's theories. Class helps a lot to understand reading and write papers. However, Philosophy in general is difficult, so... the class discussions might heavy to your mind. You will do will in his class if you take your responsibility as a student. good luck
Only real criticism of this prof is he talks SO low it is sometimes imposible to comprehend what he is sayng. Otherwise, an interesting class with good discussions-if you can hear them!
Good class, challenging material. Its all about abstract ideas, so do all your reading. Not an easy professor, but you`ll do OK if you use your mind. He just talks tool low, so hearing him can be difficult.
Very laid-back and an awesome teacher, he could do with speaking up more and instead of the usual lectures, try to engage more the class in discussions.
Good class, good prof who knows subject cold.Lots of reading, but it will definately increase your knowledge about modern philosophy and its varing schools of thought. Not for the faint hearted!
He's NOT an easy prof. Only a handful got an A on any paper or exams he gives. Which there are no multiply choice questions. Must obtain the textbook for frequent readings. There's in class discussions (if you don't read you would be lost). He does not write on the board. Maybe 5 words at best. However he is available for students to ask questions.
barnhart conducts his class in a boring fashion. maybe its the fact that when i signed up for a "philosophy of the beautiful" course i didnt expect to end up critiquing the critiques of philosophers' views on art. talks like steve carell but softer -- very conducive for naps.. make sure you re-up on coffee before class. 2 essays. tests curved holla
he was an overall fair teacher. no surprises in the tests, he basically tells you what to read, if you read it you can keep up in the class easily. paying attention will help and just listen to what he says, you can do well with if you give a good effort
Good prof and good overviews of Descartes, Hume, Kant and Nietzsche. Interesting subject, plenty of reading, fair tests and two reports . Excellent bprof, but he needs to speak up a bit louder! Other than that, a fine class.
Very good professor .Take his class if you can .Try to show up in class on time and do your work and you will be great.First day you may fall sleep but try to participate and pay attention to class discussion. The professor is very respectful to his students and willing to help if you ask him.Very fair in grading.
His classes will blow you away, I admit his lectures are extremely hard if you don't get what the books are saying. Aside the fact the books were hard, he's a great professor whose VERY patient with everyone. :)
hes understanding, and witty.
The class can start out pretty slow with discussions. Its ment to engage the class so you got to do the reading adn he gives extra brownie points if you participate (he really likes to see that people are actually doing the reading and asking questions). He's is pretty patient and understanding professor. I would definitly recomend :)
Listen, hes hard to put your finger on. He defiently knows his stuff, but does conduct his class in a particularly (for lack of a better word) boring fashion. you have to really enjoy the subject to keep yourself going. Otherwise hes actually pretty good, i feel hes a ike or not kind of professor no in between.
Yeah this guy knows his stuff. He goes into the text in depth and paints a picture that makes the philosophical ideas very clear. READING IS A MUST with his class. He is difficult to listen to at times and i found myself drifting away. Overall I enjoyed his class and grasped the material very well. Engage in the conversation to avoid going to sleep
Professor Barnhart is naturally intelligent person, great educator, extremely helpful and patient. Subject hard, lots of thinking, but very interesting. And if you willing to educate yourself you will never fall asleep. A must. Thank you Professor!
Good professor. Fairly softspoken, which is not good in the acoustically challenged class rooms at this college. He assigns a considerable amount of reading, all of which was interesting, if a little time-consuming. I completed his writings, but they were sub-par, and I do not feel I deserved the high grade I received. Fair, if not overtly lenient.
Very intelligent Professor. The material starts offa little dry but it picks up and becomes interesting once you get into the debates.
Very boring class. Surprised I pass, it wasn't a easy class. Although the professor is good at teaching.
Nice professor, but the class is boring and it's mostly essay form .
very intelligent and patient also soft spoken but very boring, he gets so into what hes saying without realizing we are all lost. STUDY out side of class that will help inside
Great Course.
Easy class if you understand what's going on very textbook dependent most tests are essay based. His clarity is amazing and will to help is as strong too. If you don't understand the material ASK or you will FAIL. It's philosophy there are no stupid questions and it's college. For an elective i wouldn't grab him for philosophy majors shoot!
I definitely learned a lot from his class. If you like writing essays then you will do ok. If he was a little more enthusiastic in his lectures then the class would be less boring. Make sure you ask him questions and he will help you..
Professor barnhart is amazing!!! There is a reason why he is a professor! The study of metaphysical philosophy is challenging but professor Barnhart breaks it down and I loved his class.
Nice professor. His classes are as dry as sand on a sunny day. He should relate class material to everyday life. Very dry material.
Professor Barnhart gives interesting lectures on a topic that is a bit tough to wrap your head around. Participation is a must and it helps to read what you are assigned. Also, show up and be on time. He is mild mannered and gives you a chance to interpret readings in your own way. I got a good grade but its because I made a good effort to pass.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class. I know Philosophy is a bit difficult to understand but he just makes me want to sleep throughout the whole class. I've taken a Philosophy course before and I actually loved it but this guy just doesn't know how to teach it properly or without anyone falling asleep in class.
I have fallen asleep in his class multiply times. He is nice and he tries to explain things but it's just so boring. And you better have your student email working because if you don't you will miss everything. I didn't and I tried to give him a paper late a day, he told me there is no point now. It doesn't matter. Stay clear if you can .
If you are a person, who enjoys thinking, take his class. It's hard to stay focused for a whole lecture, at least for me, he doesn't have a problem with that. He's always open to hear, and respect your ideas.
The professor is super boring and makes the lectures super hard to understand especially if this is your first time taking a Philosophy course. I've taken Philosophy before and loved it which is initially the reason why I took this class but he doesn't do a good job teaching Philosophy. Dont get me wrong, hes a smart guy just not good at teaching.
His lectures are so boring
I enjoyed his class even though he made me think a lot, lol thats good though because thats how you have to think in the medical field. Appreciate him, thank you professor
hard class. hard material. don't recommend taking.
A lot of reading. Need to pay attention in lecture and read textbook to understand material. And participation counts. He gives 2 papers and 2 exams. Overall a good professor as long as you pay attention. Would take him again
Very boring lectures, since professor has been talking quietly and to himself. Prof does not help at all on his assignments, he is not caring about students. He will definitely lower your grade even if you will go for tutoring or help center, since he got attitude against his student. Never expect any help since no answers are given by professor.
Easy A as long as you participate and have a clear understanding of the material. Don't take with an overloaded schedule
You miss 1 non-graded assignment and he dropping you out of class
Did fine in this class but never made anything clear and mad strict for no reason.
would not take again. not clear with directions, very particular. very hard grader.
would not take again. not clear with directions, very particular. very hard grader.
He does a poor job at providing feedback. I emailed him regarding grades & was met with condescending answers. His lectures are boring and consistently stale. His work is not overwhelming but his grading is questionable. His class grading methods will lower GPA and bump you out of scholarships. I have worked with colleagues like this. do not take.
This professor is something else, not only are his lectures boring, but his grading is very questionable, very condescending in his responses, my GPA dropped because of this class this is an elective by the way !!!
I was stunned by my grade because throughout the semester I was getting low grades, BUT what makes your grades are the points you developed, so if you got a "b" but received 4/5 points that means you did pretty well, i was confused with his grading at times, work can be hard, its an elective class so be mindful if high GPA if your goal
He's blunt and honest with feedback, so expect straightforward comments on your writing. Not a tough grader, but being detailed is essential so just follow the rubric. He's flexible with deadlines and posts all course materials online, which makes exams easier. Overall, he's fair and helpful, I'd take this course again.
Professor Barnhart was very professional, very well spoken, respectful, gave good feedback which helped me a lot. He is the best professor to teach bioethics. He's very knowledgeable and knows the subject very well.
There can't be a better professor to teach bioethics than Professor Barnhart. He's amazing, deep thinker, gives reasonable feedback that helps you understand the bigger picture. I really enjoyed his lectures. He was my favorite professor in fall semester. Highly recommend him.
I would take him again considering my grade but DO THE VERY FIRST NON GRADED ASSIGNMENT. HE WILL KICK YOU OUT THE COURSE IF YOU DONT!!!!! Otherwise your will do fine if you read , annotate and write good essays
He's a good professor. However, make sure you are proactive and reach out before hand if you foresee any obstacle with getting your assignments handed in. He has clear grading criteria- but tough grader in essays. If you can take it online due to clear structure and clear deadlines.
