Hes an ok teacher nothing to prominant about him. kind of boring, hard test, gives homework, and hard to understand b/c of accent. but mostly just boring.
He's a good professor, attempts to make jokes with the class - if you make jokes back its much more fun. He's pretty laid back in class, but his tests can be tricky, but come on, he's a psychologist, he knows how people think!!! Just study!
he's pretty laid back, but anal about a few things. the material is kinda tricky, but if you study it's not too bad. his jokes are seriously corny, but at least he's not boring
he was the best and most interesting professor i had. he made learning about psychology fun and i loved the course. he is a gifted teacher.
He was pretty easy, it's just that the material is tricky- along with his tests. Go to class and study very hard.
makes psy interesting and fun. Tests are typical psychological testing, but if you study hard are not difficult. Makes class enjoyable, and offers minor extra credit.
very cool guy
Good teacher, makes dry cheesy jokes but makes the class enjoyable. Not an easy A but drops the lowest mid-term grade.
Good guy, tries to be funny, which he acheives sometimes. My advice is actually keep up with the reading and study before the tests, I didn't and still passed.
Super hard tests....lighten up on the essays!
Tests are way too hard. Too much emphasis on essays. Covers more material than you can learn.
Baumann is a great professor and really knows the material. You will learn a lot in his class. Not an easy A but doable. He hates cheaters which is always a good thing.
His tests are very difficult. He speaks too fast and covers too much information when he lectures. Do not take a class with him if you can help it.
Knows his material, but not good at lectureing, has a easygoing personality but is not easygoing when it comes to taking the test. I put a lot of studing into the test and got minimal results. You will do OK if you study really hard. Class would be more intersting if taught by somebody else.
I'm a 4th YR psych major & this is the hardest class I have taken. Classes are easy, but the TESTS ARE HARD! There is TOO much info to learn for one test. I PROMISE YOU WILL HAVE @ least 30 PGS OF NOTES BEFORE EACH TEST & there's no way to organize, so you dont know even where to begin. I got a C in this class, my lowest grade at UTSA. TY BAUMANN=P
He is very subjective and it reflects in test grades, would not recommend this class if you are not a strong essay writer or cannot make every class in the semester.
prof wa really funny but the way he teache and his tests are totally different. If you're looking for a teacher to cut you slack don't take him. cause he won't give you any.

omg... all those who dog this guy for being tough, you dont know how good u have it... i had him as a sub, and i learned more that day than all my days in Dykes's class
I love this class. i love his lectures, though his tests are very hard and hard to study for. as long as you come everday, ask questions and take excellent notes and read you'll be fine. tests never get any eaiser though.
Professor Baumann is very interested it what he teaches and is therefore very animated during class. I feel privleged to have him in my first year of college.
he was the hardest teacher ever. Tried to be funny but definitly was not. All he talked about was star wars. BORING. And his exams...forget it. I got a C.. retook it with a younger cuter professor and got an A. I would not recomend Baumann....at all.
i worked harder for an A in his class than any other during my 3 years at UTSA. if youre looking to pad your GPA, stay away. if you want a first rate prof and a preparation for grad school, take him.
B prepared 2 study everyday for this class. Concepts are new 2 most students. Tests are MC& Essay. U have 2 APPLY theories 2 scenarios. 1st exam I got a 72. I studied every other day for the 2nd exam & got an 86, even though I aced the MC, I still did not meed the standards for the Essay. Extremely frustrating. Good prep for grad school.
He is a very good professor. If you keep up with the readings, go to class and pay attention (dont talk or use ur phone/let it go off in class he hates that) and study, you will be fine. He gives lots of interesting examples to make sure what he is explaining is clear. Overall an interesting class and a good prof.
He is a good professor. If u read, take the notes, and study u will do good in the class. He gives alot of helpful examples to help students understand. Just have ur cell phone off, if it goes on he will send u out of the class.
He's an excellent professor. He's very entertaining. He keeps you interested the whole time. Gives lots of notes. His test are very easy.
Tests were far too detailed in comparison to class lectures.
HATED him, i couldnt even go to class sometime because he pissed me off. he is not funny and tells ridiculous examples that in no way relate to psychology. Studied real hard to get a B. I wouldn't take him
He gives hard tests!! You must read the material and constantly study your notes to make a good grade. He's funny sometimes, though I think he just likes to hear himself talk. I don't recommend him!! He's harder than he needs to be.
TESTS WERE RIDICULOUSLY HARD! prepare to fail. he has an extremely low "A" rate. If you have a choice, don't take this class. you will REGRET IT.
Do not listen to the previous reviews! Baumann was a great Intro Psych professor. He is very thorough and you will really learn the material. His tests are a little difficult but if you truly belong in college you will make an A or B.
This class is not easy, but the professors lectures are great and if you don't understand something he will take the time in or out of class to help you in any way he can. If you want to learn, take this class. If your not going to be able to make it to his lectures don't take it because you will fail. Good luck...............
Good professor, knows his stuff and explains it very well. However, if you really want an A, you have to go to class, take notes, and read the book along with studying for the tests. He's a very knowledgable guy, but unfortunately there are no shortcuts.
Great professor, knows what he's talking about and classes are fun and interesting. In order to do well though, you NEED to go to class and read the book...don't try to cram the night before.
Often did not cover all material that was on the test- didn't even mention certain topics that appeared on tests and gave no advanced warning.
I wish I would have taken a course with him sooner. He is a great professor. His lectures are fun & he definitely knows his stuff. He is extremely accessible, friendly & very helpful. I was worried about his "hard exams" as some stated here but they aren't that bad. Here's a newsflash...STUDY! Take a class with him if you actually want to learn. :)
His tests are only hard if you don't study for them. This was the easiest class I have taken at UTSA thus far. Interesting lectures too! He is funny and ties material to interesting life stories of his. As for the research requirement--get it done early on so you don't have to worry about it later!
His notes have no relation to the book whatsoever. If you have him I would recommend talking to someone who had him in a previous semester, you'll need the help.
This guy was really good. A quirky sense of humor. I still can't believe that he was only 31. His class was really easy. All you had to do was study most of the notes and read a little bit from the book and you'd be set. He gave very clear examples. It will be easy to get a "B" in the class. I strongly recommend Prof. Baumann. Good luck!!!
good teaching, tough tests
horrible tests!! gives examples in class that have nothing to do with the test and goes WAY too in depth for a intro course.
really good teacher. intresting lectures. go to class because he gives out extra credit "passwords" to put on your tests. easy high B or low A if you study and go to class, tests are a little difficult because of how he words questions.
I dunno about this guy. I mean, you basically have to memorize every single note he gives you to get an A. Otherwise, you'll start at a B. His notes are straightforward but his tests are analytical, be prepared. Be sure to show up in class. He does have a short temper though, so leave him alone. Doesn't interact well.
not so bad. . . his lecutures are interesting and his tests are challenging. attend class and do the readings.
Highly entertaining with many family guy, simpsons, and movie references. Very funny.
He is a very funny guy and makes his lectures interesting!! Read the book and make sure you can apply the knowledge to "real world situations" I enjoyed this class, and made a high B without really even trying i just went to class and paid attention, and read the chapters before the test
yeah, he ISNT funny, even though he thinks he is. very arrogant man, with tests that are unbelievably difficult. you WILL probably fail a test in this class. i studied for 5 hours once, and still only got a 76.over all, it was boring, and he likes to hear himself talk
WOW...STAY AWAY! this is by far the hardest professior ever! you have to read like crazy and not only know how to apply to real life situations but know your STAR TREK and other unrealistic shows...his lectures are packed with too much information to handle in a life time! EVERYONE does horribly! 6 out of 400 made A's! Find another teacher!
He's a nice guy, makes lectures interesting, but his tests are HARD. They're based on "real world" situations, but alot of the questions are trick questions so it's about choosing the BEST answer even though what you chose maybe right. I studied non stop, attended class, read and STILL go a D in the course. not sure i'd recommend him
his a great teacher..like u can tell he knows what he is talking about..his classes are fun and he makes it interesting..but his tests are hard as hell..i studied like non stop countless hours and i thought i did well but i got C's on every test including the final..overall dont take him..there are easier psy teachers
He is actually a VERY good professor. yes his tests are hard and yes you do have to study and know your stuff but if you are going into psych, i highly recomend it! I am in some other psych classes now and I have having a very easy time because I am able to use alot of the stuff he taught. Classes are fun and interesting and he knows his stuff!
He is a great teacher, yes he is hard but it all pays off, he is the reason why i switched my major to psychology. If you are planning on going into psychology highly recommend him, taking his class makes the other ones really easy! Tests are hard but gives extra credit at end of term, very helpful, funny too!VERY GOOD TEACHER, TAKE HIM.
Difficult. Hardly uses the book and must attend class to pass. Makes jokes which aren't very funny. Complete waste of money and time. Lost interest in I/O topic after I had his class. Take him if you like a guy who's real anal about his work and his subject matter. Likes to prove you wrong and doesn't give out many A's
Worked very hard in this class, attended the study sessions and group study sessions with other fellow classmates, studied essay questions, read book and still did horrible in this class. Be ready to put forth a lot of time and effort in his class and get less than perfect results. Class attendance is a must as well... Beware!!!!!
Horrible Professor, one of the smartest psyc proffesors on the campus and will make you pay for it. He explains everything perfect, but his test are almost unpassable. He makes essays that are disected with harsh points and make you write almost unreasonable amounts. Take the class if yoy really want a challenge form hell
He never gave out extra credit and gave a very slight curve that didn't help much. Difficult professor yet. I've had better ones than him. Would recommend any other professor over this one. If you like to stress yourself out than go for it...but stay away if you know better
Dr. Baumann is a good guy. His notes are very clear and he expects a lot from you. As such, expect to work for your grade. I got a 'C' in his I/O class, and I would say it is worth more than any 'A' I have recieved in any other class.
BEWARE! stay away if you're smart....
good guy; really enjoyed his class...very smart and very arrogant but a good professor. challenging.
Great professor! Exams are rather long (has short answer questions) for time needed. I would recommend this professor! Had him for PSY 3023 and PSY 3203.
Professor Baumann has a great personality. He will definitely make you laugh. :)
Prof Baumann is fantastic. He makes class fun.
Dr. Baumann appears to be easy going, but once you get into it all, it's not so easy. The material is not hard to understand, but I suggest reading before going to class to understand what he is talking about b/c his examples suck. What others are saying is true...BEWARE!!!! esp if you are about to graduate he is the last prof. you want to take =*(
You must attend his social psych class he covers a lot of topics not in the book or that are poorly explained. His examples of everything are very good, and helpful/similar on tests. His tests are very hard, must know everything from your notes taken in class.Must read book and study a lot.

Definitely knows his stuff. Thinks hes funnier than he is. DONT think this is a blowoff class- ATTENDENCE and complete notes are a must. Types his notes on overhead for class (take notes on a laptop to keep up) STUDY NOTES FOR EXAMS. KNOW your definitions and be able to apply them. Hard exams, but hes probably the best professor for this class.
Very interesting material. Prof clear in explanations, gives numerous examples. Full lectures, not much time to ask questions. Gives minimal extra credit. Read chapters, attend class, study, easy A.
The material is interesting, but I would have taken it with someone else. His lectures and his notes are unclear and not very helpful. You won't understand anything unless you read the book before class. He thinks he's funny.
Run in the opposite direction. He's Satan when he writes those exams from hell. His lectures are awesome, but those exams are hard!!!!
His exams are multiple choice, but very detailed. His lectues are infomative and entetaining.
He knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory, but very necessary, and so is the reading. He is fun, but don't underestimate the difficulty of his tests (Especially if you don't attend/read!). Missing even one class is brutal. Not recommended for slackers.
he is very helpful if you take the initiative to ask for help. his exams are VERRRRRRYYY difficult-he makes them that way so you'll actually learn. tricks you. read the material and come to class religiously! if you miss a day get the notes from a friend AND go see him in his office. this is definitely a class you have to stay on top of.
Nice guy, kind of a nerd, but funny in his own way? Tests are hard, but he is willing to help if you ask. Makes the topic interesting, and has funny stories to add and that do actually help. Take him if you want to learn, not for a blow-off class!
Really enjoying the class so far! Made a C on the first exam, but got an A on the last one... Reviewing with a group paid off! My suggestion: attend every class, read the chapters (they just reinforce what was said in class) and read his exam questions THOROUGHLY! He's a trickster, but a brilliant man. Love all of his stories and corny jokes.
This class was a challenge, his lectures were interesting and understandable but not really exactly what you can expect on the test...TEST ARE REALLY HARD...I havent completed the course yet but Im praying for aleast a "C"...if you want to learn than take this course, you cant slack at all....no room to,oh attendence isnt mandatory but still attend!
He is a great prof. lectures are fun and intresting. Yet, tests are really hard. I read all chapters, went to every class, and studied and still got a C. So if you are a slacker do not take him.
He's a really great professor and as long as you attend all the classed the tests aren't very difficult. He GIVES you the essays to prepare and they're worded exactly the same on the tests. As long as you read over the notes you can pass. I don't really read the book because his notes cover almost everything.
HARD CLASS. You have to go to class to get an A. His tests are hard and his final is essay, MC plus old material. It is an interesting class but you have to take really good notes to understand the concepts. Do not use book too much, group paper which is 15% and then 3 tests plus the final. Other than that it is an interesting class
hard class.
I had him for I.O. This is a class you must take notes for. He is hard but very clear on what he wants, and will help you.
I slacked off this sem big time, so it was difficult for me. If you arrive to ea. lecture, take good notes, study in a distributive manner, prepare for the short essays he gives beforehand, then you can get an A. Although his lecture material sufficed for the exams, still read the book, it'll help.
HARD CLASS!!! His lectures are really interesting but totally different from his test. The book didn't help either. GO TO EVERY CLASS, even though it is not mandatory. He is a great teacher and helpful, but with the difficulty of his test, I would just avoid the class all together. I'm an A student, but this class totally destroyed my GPA :(
Well so far the notes don't really match up with the test. Its as if he wants you to master all the info for every test. The book does not seem to help. The average for exam 1 was just above 70...most ppl I talked to made in the 50's... vary hard class lets hope it ends well...only take if you really really need to.
I wouldn't say the class is hard but it is demanding. As long as you are good at taking notes and preparing for tests, you should at least get a B. He is a very fair grader, and after the first test the following get easier. The lectures are funny and interesting too, if you pay attention you'll be able to connect and understand concepts easily-ish
Dr. Baumann is very unclear with what he is looking for on assignments. Even if you answer a question correctly, he will mark off points for not including every detail he is grading on (even if you are not given a rubric). I would recommend taking a different professor . You might do poorly due to his grading, even if you know the material.
Super nice guy. Each chapter has a 10 question quiz that you can retake as many times as you need. You only need 8 right to pass, the other 2 are for extra credit. Also only took the class because I registered late and it was the only one open, but I ended up finding it really interesting!
tough class. he knows his stuff and explains it interestingly in his lecture videos. the work load was too much.
He is a great understanding professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go prepare to fall behind. The only assignments you get besides tests are weekly quizzes, but those prepare you for the tests pretty well. Just be prepared to take time to read the material he assigns it can be a lot sometimes.
I don't know anyone that got more that a 79 average. I don't get the vibe he wants to be a teacher, he appeared always annoyed with us. He got mad we didn't do well on tests, but got mad when we had questions. I would not recommend.
This is the only class that I have a C on. Please do not take this class unless you are truly interested in learning about IO but even then, if you need to drop out after the first test than DO IT. I regret not dropping off the course. Not only did i read the textbook, attend lectures, and watch his presentation videos, I still failed his1st exam.
Very unclear with his lectures. He is also unclear when asking for help not helpful. No assignments all are exams. Not recommended
All I have to say is that I wish I would have looked him up on here before enrolling into his class. Despite doing the book readings, creating quizlets, and taking notes I did not have any payoff for the exams. I definitely feel there are better professors to choose from and highly recommend others to be selective.
I would not recommend this class at all. All it did was mess up my GPA. There are 3 final tests and quizzes. The tests are extremely hard, and even after studying, I was lost. Find a different professor.
I really enjoyed this class. It was pretty tough, and paying attention in class is essential. He gives terms in an outline, but you have to define the terms yourself or you won't understand. The textbook reading is very helpful, but they tend to be lengthy. It's challenging, but a very interesting class and I really enjoyed.
He was a very tough grader, but if you go to his office hours, which I found helpful, he doesn't mind breaking things down one by one to help you. Loved his lectures I found him funny
