Great prof. Very fair with grades. Make sure to do your work, always do spell/grammar checks on your papers, read WHATEVER he gives you (you're sure to get a quiz). Sit up front, be noticed, participate in class; any prof. will answer your email if they can place a face to what they're reading.

One of the best teachers John Jay has to offer. English and Lit are his best fields, but i'd take him for any class.

No question the best prof. at the college. He knows a ton of stuff, and it seems like he's read everything. You CANNOT just cruise through the course with him. You have to work your butt off, but he makes it worthwhile. Easy on the eyes, too!

If I had to rate this professor in six words, here it is: "hard as hell, worth the trip." Blitz is DEMANDING, and he does not give points just for showing up. He is also extremely helpful, a genuinely good guy, respectful of students, and often pretty hilarious in class. Here's my advice: take a class with him, and do your work. You'll love it.

This course is taught by 3 professors. Professor Blitz is truly cool. He is funny and cares about making his students do their best. The first couple of papers, I got only mediocre grades on and I was worried. But I went to talk with him and he helped me understand how my papers could be better. He can make even so-so students feel very smart.

I had Prof Blitz for Thematics Speech. Not the easiest teacher but not the hardest. If you applied yourself to his class, sat up front and participated, you were good...overall I wouldnt take him again but he is a good professor.

He is my ideal professor. Very demanding, but still very nice. No excuses for not doing your work and he's raw to the bone. Very straight up and firm, but not snotty. Just very cool and nice..but a cool and nice professor. He's what a professor is supposed to be like. Do your work, sit up front, show up to class, participate...and u'll be fine

For the many, many rmp'ers that follow the logic "he gave me a bad grade so he must be a bad teacher," yah, I'd avoid Blitz. But you're too lazy to be worthy of college. For the 15% of john jay that wants an education, he and everyone else who gets a bad rating on this site is who you want to take

We are only a few weeks into the semester and already I know that this is the best course I have ever taken (Lit of Time & Space). Prof. Blitz is brilliant. It seems like he has read everything. We all leave the class talking about it. Blitz is NOT easy, bu he treats students like true thinkers.

THIS PROFESSOR WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!! Seriously, the class keeps your interested from day-1 and the assignments are hard but interesting. You will learn a LOT in his class. I have no idea how I'm gonna do in the course, but I don't really care. I'm already registered to take another class with him next semester.

My 3rd course with this prof. Unbelievable guy. Knows his shi* and makes you THINK. Fairly hard grader but fair about it. One very amazing thing is he knows everyones name by the end of the first class. Also he connects up concepts from all over the place and you end up leaving the class thinking "how does he think of that?" Sign up for his class!

At first I didnt think I'd like this professor because he is a hard grader & he is also the chairman of the department. There are now three weeks left in the semester & I am going to hate when the class is over. Blitz is amazing & even tho the course is NOT EASY, it is worth every effort. you should not graduate without taking one of his classes.

this is the only class i have ever had that i wanted to take again as soon as it was over. absolutely awesome professor blitz is not at all easy. in fact i heard he was quite tough and he is. but he is also totally dedicated to his students and every class is actually fun. i will definitely take another class with this professor.

I had Professor Blitz when he was a PHD student at SUNY ALBANY. He was a great teacher and a very nice gentleman.

I can honestly say that Professor Blitz is one of the most enjoyable professors I have had in four years. He knows an incredible amount of information about almost everything! His style is funny but very, very, very challenging. I got a B in his course, but I give him an A+

Easily the best teacher I have had at John Jay in three years. Also very tough. I mostly get Bs but got a C+ in his class, and I have to say I deserved it. I missed some classes (a serious do-not-do in his class) and a big assignment. But every class was interesting and he really likes his students. You should take his class before you graduate.

The best professor that you will ever take for any Literature, or any Interdisciplinary Studies Program course. Fun. Strict. Fair. Charismatic. Know your stuff and you will get a B+ or higher. (It is hard to get an A in his classes, but you will take away so much more from the topics discussed!)

a lot of my jj courses have not seemed professional or challenging. when i found ISP and prof. blitz, college changed totally. he is a great teacher and he has read a million books. his classes are the best, and if i could i would take another with him.

I found out dr. blitz is not teaching this semester and was VERY disappointed. I took 5 of his classes and they were all amazing. He seems like he has read every book and he expects a lot from students, but you WILL learn to THINK in totally new ways in his class.

My first class with Prof. Blitz. I wish I had taken a lot more classes with him. He can keep a room full of interest going for 2 hours and then everyone wants to hang around and keep talking after class. The amount of information he knows about time, space, the universe, "cosmology" as well as literature is totally inspiring. TAKE a class with him

Dr. Blitz is the smartest person I have ever met. I never met anyone who has read so many books about so many topics. This class is about time and space and infinity, and I am not kidding that everyone is interested from the first minute til the period ends. He uses a "billion point" grading system that's crazy but somehow fair. I give him A+

First day of class Blitz told us this course would blow our minds. I thought that's pretty arrogant. Now I know he was telling the truth. Best course ever, best prof ever, best readings, best discussions. Awesome awesome. Also he is very kind underneath a slightly scary outside.

If you want to step your game up and get educated by one of the smartest and most well rounded individuals you will ever meet then take him! Do you readings and don?t try to get over because you don?t have a chance. If you go into his class with an open mind you will leave a much better person. He is down to earth and has a great personality!

Best professor at John Jay. He can be VERY intimidating, but he is also extremely helpful and supportive of students. I think he may be a true genius. As a (slightly) older returning student, I feel I got two years worth of learning packed into one term. He's not bad on the eyes, either!

I didn't do so well in his class, but that was completely my fault. I was missing a paper and some quizzes. He is still the best teacher I have had and classes were very interesting every time. I agree that he is sort of scary but in a good way. He motivates his students and he is REALLY smart but not at all conceited.

Genius is a good word to describe him. He can keep you in the class the whole time, and nothing stupid comes from him. No reason not to take his course.

Took him in '09. Then he went on leave, which was sad because he was the best teacher I ever had. I have one more semester and I hear he is coming back in fall. I plan to take every course he is teaching. You should not graduate without taking at least one class with him. One thing is that he is somewhat scary, but also brilliant.

The last writer is right. You should take at least one class with THE BLITZ-man before you die. I took him almost every semester I was at JJC. My grades ranged from B- to A- with him, and it didn't matter. Every class was an "experience" (Time & Space: the single greatest course at the university!). Anybody who didn't like him didn't do the work.

The good: brilliant prof., awesome projects, pushes students to work hard/do our best, kind when you get to know him, knows students' names and gets to know us, funny, Easily the best prof. I have had. The "bad": intimidating, demanding, a little blunt sometimes, a little slow on the emails. YOU SHOULD TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. Otherwise, your loss.

Wow. First few classes with Professor B. Very dynamic and funny. I heard he can be extremely demanding but hey that's what college is for. Nice to look at tho he has a strange beard!

BLITZ is back! 5th class of his. (He was gone for like a year). I don't need the course but I'm glad I have room for one more elective with him. Awesome awesome teacher. He will make you THINK. You'll work your butt off and he has NO mercy. My 4 grades with him were B+, B, A- (yeah!) And B+. I"m going for the Big A this time.

Blitz's reputation from what I've heard is that he is hard, scary, smart, and demanding. AFter 4 weeks in his class with Prof Scott, I would say Blitz is awesome, awesome, and awesome. He's also funny but he has a serious side especially if you don't do your work. He may call you out for it. I will sign up for whatever he teaches in the spring.

Before I took this class I heard that Blitz is: 1. VERY demanding, and 2. VERY good. I can now say that both are true. He is also VERY funny (at times). Excellent at explaining things and gets everybody to participate without making us uncomfortable. Definitely one of the best professors at JJ.

Blitz is kind of tough especially if someone doesn't do the work (or if they let the door slam!:)) but he is never boring and he actually wants students to be successful. At the end of this course, he invited all students to his office to pick out any book from his shelves to keep as a holiday present. This was amazing. I picked Sula. GREAT prof.

I failed this class and I can't believe it. I liked the professor, but he is very strict about absences and lates and missing papers. I thought I could make up work at the end but boy was I wrong. If you do not do the work or if you are late or absent you will fail. In some way I don't blame him but o my god I have a F on my record now

Very very very demanding. Very very very good. Never dull. I was warned that he is a hard grader and he is. I was hoping for an A but I am happy with a B. You will learn a lot from Blitz but you better come prepared with readings and assignments. If you fail Blitz's class it means you didn't do the work.

DEFINITELY TAKE THIS PROFESSOR HE IS GREAT. BUT DEFINITELY DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF: (a) you are lazy (b) you do not plan to do the readings (c) you like to be absent a lot (d) you are stupid.

A few days ago, I was going to not recommend this professor. He is a hard grader. I liked his teaching a lot, but I was kinda shocked by my final grade. When I emailed him he wrote a very good explanation and I don't feel so bad about it now. So now I would say that you should take his class. He is very interesting. But do not miss classes!

Without a doubt the best professor I have had in three and a half years at jjc. He is not easy, so if you are lazy (like I was in the beginning of the semester), you will not do well. But every class is interesting and a learning experience. He is definitely a liberal and I am not, but he totally respects all points of view.

Extremely intimidating at first. Very strict about policies on lateness and late assigments. But after a semester he is the best professor I've had at jjc. He is never boring.

I was hoping for a higher grade since English is my minor. But I have to say that Prof Blitz is still the best teacher I have had at JJ.. He is extremely smart and he gives away books from his own office to students. You may not get an A, but you will learn a lot and always be thinking about the class afterwards.

My first class with the "legendary" Professor Blitz. Totally the best professor ever. This class makes reading any book more interesting because Blitz gets you into it. I heard that he can be extremely tough and scary, but he's actually very nice and wants students to succeed.

Everybody says "take a class with Blitz" so I did. Phenomenal. He teaches with three other profs, and is my favorite in the class by far. He has already ripped a couple of my papers to shreds, but I get it-- make be a better writer and all that. Hope my grades is good, but whatever. He is AWESOME. I am taking another class with him next semester.

Great Professor! Really enjoyed taking him. Real tough grader though, but it was all worth it. He marked up my papers like crazy, but it only made me stride to work harder. If you want to prepare for grad school, take him. He is as honest as they get. I highly recommend taking him. Thanks Prof. Blitz!

Great professor! I've taken him twice! Not easy, he's a very tough grader, but he definitely made me a much better writer.

I waited three years to take a "Blitz" course. So far, he's great. The course is with one other professor and both of them are really good to take together. I recommend Blitz but only if you are serious about working hard. Otherwise, he has zero tolerance for being lazy

Whether you want to become a better writer, are looking for a challenge, or are interested in experiencing an engaging class taught by a brilliant professor, then look no further. Professor Blitz is so awesome! Highly recommended.

On the first day I was warned by other students.BUT I find him to be brilliant, thought-provoking, funny, and very engaging. People in my classes love him. I hate participating, but he challenged me in a great way. I've been taking his courses ever since. Please don't slam the door. Be conscious - he is great. Period.

Didn't realize how famous he was until I came here, LOL. On THAT note: YES! He's tough, fair but intimidating & will make you WORK for that grade. (Prof Sarna is gr8 as well!) You will NOT succeed if you're excessively absent/lazy. I HATED participating and he picked up on it so he would make me do it but it's all to make you better as a student!

Professor Blitz and Sarna were both great teachers. They don't give any tests, however they do give a few pop quizzes and some are scheduled on the syllabus. No textbook use but you will be reading several books. I would have to say that Professor Blitz was a difficult class to pass but well worth the challenge. I've improved my writing tenfold.

He's intelligent but also challenging. He wasn't as difficult as I thought but you definitely need work hard.

Teaches with Sarna. Both are great. Blitz can be hilarious but is also VERY serious about students doing their work. He seems to know a LOT about a LOT of things. Never boring, tough grader, not tolerant of laziness AT ALL. Probably best teacher I've had at JJ.

My 3 tips for anyone taking a class with Blitz: 1) do NOT come to class unprepared. 2) participate. 3) enjoy yourself. He is awesome. A little scary sometimes but he really wants his students to do well.

He made us think about multiple futures. He made everyone give 2 mini lectures in the semester. I still can't believe he connected microscopes to time machines to multiple infinities and didn't lose me. Hardest class ever. Best class ever. Wish I could take him every semester.

I loved Professor Blitz! I took a class with him and Professor Sarna and it was amazing! Granted, it's a lot of work, so expect that! But he makes the content fun and is able to relate to the students. Great professor! And if it's an ISP class, you don't need a textbook!

2nd week of class. Love it love it love it. Professor Blitz has a reputation that he's very demanding and scary. Maybe that's how it will be, but after two double-period classes, he's already my favorite professor out of 5 previous semesters.

I had professor B for 5 classes and now a 6th. Obviously I think he is a great teacher. If you do the reading and writings on time, and participate you can do well. A lotta reviews say he is scary which I totally get but it's mainly because he wants you to work hard. He also does not tolerate foolishness.

Has a good rep and they're right. He is amazing. Told us first day that he won't bore us but we're not allowed to bore him! Better do your work tho. Great prof.

he could be a little tough but if you pay attention to what is being taught and make the effort to correct your errors it will definitely boost your grade and get a higher grade in class.

Professor Bltiz is a great professor. He really makes class interesting and great. He does have quizzes which I found kind of ridiculous as they were a bit tough. But make sure you do all his readings and homework and you will pass the class and his quizes. Also participate and actually try! Its all worth it.

I'm a freshman second semester. My friend was signed up for Blitz class and convinced me to take it with her. I am very glad I did. Prof. Blitz class is fun but also serious about the idea of worlds. He can be funny but also makes you think totally new thoughts about everything. He has a nice coteacher who has her own style which is very nice.

Youre going to read a lot. He is not easy. He also doesnt tolerate slackers. In other words, he's the real deal for a professor. I didn't pay for a dumbed down education. Blitz takes students seriously and demands a lot. And that's what you should want. It's only been 4 weeks, and this is already my favorite class. Then again, I'm here to learn.

He's a tough grader, will call on everyone for answers, and expects you to act and think scholarly. What's wrong with that, though? You're in college and that too a senior college and not community college. If you can't handle basic studying then real life's got surprises for you. Be ready to work but also be ready to learn.

He expects you to actually work, put in effort, and participate, which duh its college. Hes very intelligent and really helps you think outside of the box. Hated him at the beginning but towards the end I really appreciated him.

One of my all time favorite professors of all time. All the classes that he teaches (this is my second one with him, and I already signed up for another 2 with him), is super interesting and educational. He teaches in such an open way that encourages everyone to be participants and involved.

He treats you like an adult and is a great person. Sometimes he calls on random people to participate, his class is so good if you like to just share your thoughts, the whole class is just basically one long convo with everyone. not a lot of note taking. we read 3 books, but the books r good. quizzes r easy for the most part there is extra credit.

My first grade of A ever, and Blitz has rep for being crazy-hard grader (which he is). He makes you work and doesn't tolerate laziness. Very fun classes, he can be funny or serious, depending. He respected us and got almost everyone involved in every discussion. I have one more semester and I will be taking another class with Blitz. He gets an A+

Blitz read us the riot act last night about presentations. Basically said we blew it. Can't say he was wrong. At least he was respectful about it which is more than I can say about at least one of the students who's negative vibe pisses a lot of us off. Blitz is a powerful instructor & u will learn a lot, but do your work or you won't pass!

Class is on line now because of the corona virus so everything is different. My other classes seem like they fell apart on line, but Blitz works hard to keep in touch with us & discuss readings on the forum a lot. The course is still myt favorite but I really miss the class. Blitz is a phenomonal professor & I hope to take more classes with him!

I was enjoying this course so much before covid took us out of the classroom. I wasn't thrilled about doing classes on line. But Blitz has found a way to keep things interesting without overloading us with deadlines and new tasks. Blitz is my favorite professor, and I've taken a lot of classes with a lot of professors. 10 out of 10!

BEST class, even tho on line. I was gonna drop the class when we went to all on line classes but I'm glad I didn't. Best class, best teacher. Never thought so much about all the complications of Violence in society. This prof actually wants to learn from his students besides just teaching us. Hope to take another class with him back in person!

Number 1 prof at JJ. Third class with him. My three grades were C+, B and B. I always thot of myself as an A student, so it was not fun getting lower grades. BUT if you came to JJ to learn something and THINK, Blitz is THE one to take. NOT easy. VERY fair. Treats students like adults which refreshing! Best prof I have had.

A few things you have to do before you graduate: check out rooftop lawn and hang-out areas! Check cafeteria food for bugs! Take a class with Prof Blitz. That last one is a serious must-do. If you came to college to learn and think, take him!

Blitz makes students feel like we are in college to learn as much as possible. He's not easy, and sometimes he is a little unnerving when he puts you on the spot about the subject. But he is very fair and you will learn a lot! But don't take his class if you are lazy or don't want to read a lot.

For an online professor because of the pandemic, Blitz was impressive. Lots of feedback, fair grader, good assignments, good readings. I don't like online learning but Blitz kept things interesting.

Hes a tough grader but his topics are interesting. dont expect an easy A and his lectures are pretty heavy. If you dont show up you would probably miss a lot but hes very understandable.

I thought I knew how to read but Blitz teaches you how to READ and learn more from books than you are used to. He is a great teacher but not easy and if you want to goof off you will not do well. I am hoping to take another class with him in the fall.

Prof really cares about students. helps you with problems with homework, and very understanding. When we were in the classroom, Blitz was great and enjoyable. Also extremely funny sometimes. When the class was online, he was good about keeping us in touch with each other. Great professor. I will sign up for another class.

Professor Blitz is my favorite professor not because I got a high grade but because he really cares about his students and makes sure he gives feedback that helps. He is also really funny sometimes. This course ended up being on the computer only because of the Virus, but Blitz made it interesting. The class wrote a dictionary! Amazing professor.

Blitz is great. I heard about him from another ISP professor, and he said I should not graduate before taking a Blitz class. So I did. Now I wish I had taken more classes with him. Very interesting person, somewhat demanding in a good way, and very nice with students. He gets impatient with students who don't do the work, which was fine with me.

Not an easy teacher, but good. Probably my favorite tho I would have liked to get a higher grade. The course went online because of the virus and that made it harder to do the work. But Blitz is awesome and I hope to take him when we go back to real classes.

Professor Blitz was such a good teacher and did a great job with the whole online class. I had him for ISP 125 and it was an interesting course. He definitely expects a lot from his students and is a tough grader. But he makes the course very interesting and makes us thinking deeper

Prof Blitz is caring, he put in effort to make class as best as it could've been given the circumstances. I enjoyed taking his class with Prof Sarna. The readings were not too heavy, and we mostly had assignments through discussion posts on blackboard.

I took an ISP class as an elective fall 2020 with Prof. Blitz. He is the ONLY professor to make online classes worthwhile. He seems interested in what students say and was always positive. A lot of reading but most of it was surprisingly interesting and Blitz added to that. Totally the best professor I have taken at JJ.

so far so great! I work 2 jobs so going to calss on line is a pain. but I have to say that Prof Blitz is interesting and I enjoy his class alot. I will say this you better do the reading otherwise you won't like it when he asks you to "think out loud" about them. I recomend highly.

Incredible professor. Blitz makes you read and write a lot, but the subjects are very interesting. I learned more about violence and justice in this class than all my CRJ classes. Readings were excellent, online classes were actually fun! Blitz cares about students and I appreciated being treated as a thinking adult. Take his classes!

This Violence/Justice class was THE best course I've ever had at JJ. Every online class was interesting which was the first time that has happened in my experience. The readings are not from a boring textbook and I never minded the writing projects. Professor Blitz is now my favorite professor and I will take another class with him.

Professor Blitz is probably the best teacher I have had. He has a reputation about being strict about assignments. So I wasn't sure about taking his class. But he was excellent. He made us feel encouraged and showed a lot of respect for all students. I also met with him for an office hour online and he was very helpful and considerate.

Course on Violence and Justice. As a Black woman, I did not know whether a white male professor would be good for a class on violence in todays society. Professor Blitz proved me wrong. He is AMAZING and super respectful of students ideas and opinions. I loved this class and was sorry when it ended.

It was hard to take a class online. Professor Blitz gives a lot of readings and writings so you should take his class if you are lazy. But the class was awesome. Professor Blitz makes you think. I learned a lot from him and this class. 10 out of 10.

I went through a lot during the semester and Prof Blitz was very understanding and helpful. He let me make up some work I missed due to illness and met with me one on one a couple times to help me understand the readings more. Very great professor. I signed up for him in the fall.

I had three online classes in the spring 2021 semester. Two were in my major and one was in ISP with Prof. Blitz. His class was my favorite. He challenges students intensely but makes it fun. Highly recommend him.

Professor Blitz taught this course with Prof. Gentile. Both were excellent. Prof. Blitz seemed to know more of the subject, but they were an enjoyable combination of professors. Prof. Blitz is VERY helpful to students. I always felt like he wanted us to succeed. I will be taking another class with him in the fall.

I gotta say that I did not put my all into the semester due to a lot of personal factors. But Blitz was extremely understanding, and I worked hardest for his class than my others. His class is very interesting and I wish I had gotten my act together sooner. But Blitz gave me a chance to get back on track. I would highly recommend him.

I graduated 2009. Went to law school and am a practicing attorney. Why this review? I found some papers I wrote in Dr. Blitzs class on Infinity & Eternity, by far the best course Ive ever taken. Only 1/2 the semester & I already know that Professor Blitz is the best professor I have ever had. I did not want to take another online class, but I heard he is very good so I took this course on violence & justice. Amazing! Every class goes by very fast & everyone participates, which is rare in online classes. I look forward to every class.

Online classes: I'm not a fan. Professor Blitz: I'm a big fan. I took a class with him 2 years ago and it was my favorite. He is very active and moves around, draws crazy "maps" on the board, etc. I wasn't too happy when I saw that he was teaching only online, but this class on Violence/Justice is amazing. Blitz has to be the best prof at JJC.

Ive taken 2 classes so far with Prof. Blitz and he is by far my favorite prof in Jjay. You will never meet another professor with more experience in so many fields as he does. (He used to teach inmates, special forces, and is even a veteran.) He's so funny and entertaining in class. Take ANY class he teaches &I promise you'll love it!

If Prof Blitz taught a course on dust he'd make it interesting. I did NOT have high expectations about an online course, but the topic of Violence and Justice seemed interesting. Blitz made every zoom worth it. He calls on you so stay alert! He knows a ton about the subject, and he makes you think in ways you never did. A+ professor.

After taking Prof Blitz's class online, I can say that every professor should learn how to do it from Blitz. I looked forward to every zoom even tho it was at 8AM. I thought I knew what violence & justice mean, but Blitz's class opened my eyes to how complicated these ideas are. I am so glad I got to take a class with Blitz before I graduated.

I took Blitz's class in fall semester, & now I have him for Remembering/Forgetting spring 2022. I never considered myself a good student & have mixed feelings about college. Blitz's class are so interesting that I have been trying to do much more work & effort in school in general. He is a very nice person & his courses are not easy but excellent.

I am not a fond of strict professors but Professor Blitz grew on me. His lectures were so interesting and made you think. He is a tough grader and will take points off for small mistakes. He is very funny and makes you feel comfortable when participating/presenting. For my class, he quizzed us about the homework almost every week.

Excellent professor, Im senior this year, so it was one of the classes that enjoyed a lot. Very thankful to him.

This class requires having cameras on but he ensure that the classes are full of interesting things. You must ensure to follow his directions in order to get full point on assignments. You are required to speak in his class, but there is never a right or wrong answer. He is by far the best professor I have taken in my 3 years of going to JJ college

Blitz is retiring! No!! Best professor I've ever had. I wanted to take one more with him. Amazing classes on zoom, NEVER boring. Blitz is (was!) always interested in our point of view. I think he really loves his students. JJC is losing its BEST professor! He said he might come back to teach a course once in a while. If he does, TAKE HIS CLASS!

John Jay College is losing its best professor!!! Blitz is retiring! I never had a professor who cares so much about his students. He got to know every one us even tho the class was on Zoom, and every class was worth it times-ten. He said that he might come back someday to teach a class. If he does, take his class whatever he teaches.

Worst day in college life was finding out that Prof Blitz is retiring. Best prof at JJ by far. I had him for three classes on line & it was like being in a regular class. He learns everyone's name, makes a community, & he really loves to hear our viewpoints on all the topics. I never learned so much from any other professor & am sad he is leaving.

Great professor. I can that he makes every class interesting even on zoom.
