He is the best teacher I have had at Iowa State so far. He is very easy and is always willing to help you. You don't need to buy the textbook but you do need the spiral notebook.
Great Professor! Funny and helpful. He tries to learn everybody's names the first week so once he knows your name he will call on you so you gotta pay attention! Fin 301 is pretty easy but he does a great job explaining it nonetheless. He also gives random test questions throughout lectures so go to every class to get them.
Great professor! Tries to get to know everyones names and then he calls on you randomly. Funny guy and very understanding and helpful. Make sure you have the finance calculator as it helps a ton!
Great professor!
Great professor. Don't necessarily need to read the book, unless you are reviewing for the test. If you have a question, go up to the front after class or to his office hours. He's not really as intimidating as he seems. However, don't email him with questions because he doesn't respond, cause he wants you to go to class. Speaking of which, make sure you go to class because he gives out quiz points, extra credit (especially the class before break), and test questions.
Bootsma is the best professor I have had in my career at Iowa State. He is very knowledgeable and keeps the class awake with jokes and calling randomly on students. He also makes an attempt to learn each students name, and truly cares about making sure his students learn the subject. Take any class with him and you will not be disappointed.
Bootsma tells stories most of the class time, but they help in remembering the terms and understanding the information. He has pop quizzes that are very easy and gives out test questions if you show up to class. He calls out people for talking during class even though the lecture is 300 people. He is good at having useful office hours
Class was well organize, fun, educational, helpful, useful
In my opinion the best professor at Iowa State. Cares about the students and learning the material.
Bootsma is one of the best teachers at ISU! He genuinely cares about his students and is always willing to help. He also has a great personality and kept class interesting. I would definitely recommend taking any class with him!
Tests are extremely difficult. Makes you feel dumb if you don't know what he's talking about. Group project is very confusing. Homework is easy, but doesn't thoroughly explain the chapters.
Great teacher, very helpful. He really cares about his students.
Probably one of the best professors I have ever had. Really makes sure students know the material before moving on. Very helpful. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him!
Test teacher I've had at Iowa State. Very good teacher, makes sure the class understands the concept before moving on. Makes a genuine effort to learn everyone's name. Homework is online and tests are taken with several other classes. His sections consistently had the highest test averages.
Overall a good professor. Made sure students understood difficult material before moving forward. Tests were difficult but fair. Definitely better than the other 387 teachers.
favorite teacher at Iowa State. I recommend him to all of my friends. Class can be boring at times, but usually very interesting. Bootsma is really funny and really cares about his students.
He's awesome. By far my favorite professor. He makes sure that you know the material and really tries to get to know you in class and out of class. Tests can be difficult, but he is very fair and will give points back. Also textbook is required. You use it for homework and do examples out of it constantly.
He speaks very clearly and defines terms without doubt. He incorporates humor into his lectures, but can sometimes be boring (it's a business class). If you attend class regularly and read the book, you will be successful. He cares about student success and will keep trying until you understand the material.
Possibly the best class I've had at ISU. Bootsma cares a great deal about your success, not just in his class but as a student as well. Tests can be difficult, but if you go to his reviews you will do better.
He is so great. He actually makes me interested in accounting at 8 a.m. He gives great real world examples so that we can apply the information and actually retain it for the tests. He wants you to come to his office hours to see him and ask him questions. He really cares about his students and their success.
Good teacher, very willing to help, enjoyed the class.
not a big law or accounting person but he made this class fun and understandable. Gives out a 5 point quiz once a week randomly which really help your grade. Fun teacher!
Conveys topics of class very well, if you make the effort he rewards you. Very willing to take the time to go over things and help you improve if you reach out to him. He gives in class quizzes for points every so often and then he gives you the answers to them so you always get the full points. Respects students a lot. He's also hilarious.
Professor Bootsma is an outstanding professor who not only is passionate about Business Law, but he also takes an active interest in his students' success in and out of the classroom. Make sure you attend lectures as he helps you on attendance quizzes and tells you the answers to test questions. He is always willing to talk to you in office hours.
Great professor! Tests are not too difficult and there are no homework assignments. Attendance is not mandatory but he will give out quizzes every once in awhile and he usually gives out test questions as a way to encourage attendance. If you show up to class and pay attention you should have no problem passing this class.
He is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes class fun, and you can tell that he really cares about his students. You do have to go to class most of the time to get the attendance points. He also makes it possible to receive extra credit. If you can get Mike as a professor, do it. He's great.
Helpful lecturer, care about student, great and clear lecture, absolutely a good listener.
Must go to class, but if you pay attention you will get an A. Grade is based on tests, all non-cumulative. Very friendly and cares about students!
Go to class and you will pass the class. Give out 5 point in class pop quizzes throughout the semester. If you miss one, don't worry as you only need 40 points and he gives out a lot more than 40 points worth. No homework, all tests. Very friendly and overall a very nice guy.
Bootsma is a great professor. Knows his stuff, interesting, and very helpful. Grade is based on 4 tests and some quizzes. He gives test questions and pop quizzes in class, so make sure you go! You could probably get by without the book! Overall great professor!
Mike was super helpful and he's really funny! As long as you pay attention in class you'll do great on the tests!
Great teacher
Mike was the man! Makes the class somewhat interesting and relates senarios to college pretty well. There for you for pretty much anything, school or personal life. Post videos online of reviews and class.
I really enjoyed this class last spring. He was such a funny professor, had easy to follow examples and shared his personal experiences. He provided video lectures and review sessions which were very helpful. The class was a few exams and quizzes. If you attend class he'll give out hints and test questions. He's there to help you if you need it!
Bootsma makes material super clear. I made flash cards from ppt slides and got an A on every single test. He gives 40 total participation points and I reached my 40 max by halfway through the semester. Gives a few test questions during class. I would highly, highly recommend him for an easy class that you actually learn a lot in. DON'T BUY TEXTBOOK
BOOTSMA IS THE HOMIE
Bootsma was great! He made lectures fun because he was so funny and I felt like he could really relate to students. He understands that we have other commitments and is willing to help you by providing frequent office hours along with review sessions and videos for each test. I would definitely recommend him!
Bootsma rocks. He holds extra long office hours for questions or concerns and is more than willing to work with students when they don't understand things or need help. I barely used the textbook since I went to class. GO TO CLASS, he gives out random basically free 5 point quizzes when you NEED for your grade.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR!!!
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Never have I been able to focus for a whole lecture until I had Bootsma as my professor. Not saying that business law is easy, but he makes it enjoyable. Always there to help, doesn't want to see a kid fail or struggle. Brings laughter to lecture which is very comforting. Overall, make sure to read and go to class
Good professor. The tests aren't hard but require studying for. It's just a lot of information to know for such a short test, 35 multiple choice questions. Print out powerpoint lecture notes before lecture, I found this really helpful to take notes. Show up for lecture. He gives extra credit quizzes based on attendance sporadically.
He is a really funny guy, and really wants everybody to succeed. His lectures are kind of entertaining and he likes to give funny real life scenarios. Grading also is not that hard, and attendance is definitely optional after you get your quiz points.
There's a ton of content but Mike is a great guy and wants to help you learn it all. I was in an 8 a.m. section but I enjoyed the lectures because they were a good mix of informative and he has a good sense of humor about himself and life. Put in the work and you'll do fine.
Professor Bootsma is an amazing professor. He truly cares about the success of his students. After taking Business Law I, I chose to take Business Law II with Bootsma as an elective. While Business Law II is a more rigorous course, Professor Bootmsa still made the class engaging to ensure students learn and succeed.
Bootsma is the best professor I have had at Iowa State. The class is very easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but going to lecture is very interesting and helps you out when it comes to the tests. There are 4 tests and some quiz points that are very easy to get 100% on because there is a max out. He will always find time for you if you need help.
Bootsma is by far the best professor I have ever had. Expect to do work as it is not an easy A. However, Bootsma makes very dry material interesting and is always there for you if you need anything. Bootsma for Dean.
Single best teacher I've had at ISU, maybe ever. Funny, helpful, an overall great guy. Makes you interested in what you're learning, and is very enthusiastic about it. Quite the character. It's not an easy class, but it's not to hard, either. Go to class, take notes, study, and you'll be fine. Highly recommend everyone to take this course.
He does what he can to make business law fun. His lectures follow the slides and he makes sure to do a lot of examples to demonstrate the topics. He is always willing to help, and is very fair with tests. He gives quizzes in class every so often, and posts videos of past lectures for each chapter.
Professor Bootsma is the single best thing of Iowa State. I have taken many of his classes and highly suggest them all. The material is sometimes hard but as long as you try he makes sure you are successful. He's hilarious and can make the driest content easy to understand. Every professor should strive to be at his level.
The tests in this class were a little difficult but definitely not super hard. He tried hard to make the class interesting even though the material was a little dry at times. Really nice guy though really made sure you knew that if you wanted help or to come in to talk to him about grades he was willing to do so.
Bootsma is one of the best professors at Iowa State willing to help and is willing to help. He is also quite hilarious. The tests are a bit difficult and that is because there is a lot of material to memorize. He sometimes gives out extra credit and curves all tests. Go to class! He gives answers and points.
Mike is an amazing professor. He makes boring material seem very interesting, uses great examples, and engages the class. Some of the material is very confusing, but Mike is frequently in his office and will definitely explain it to you if you make the effort. Coming to class is critical because of pop quizzes and lectures.
Favorite professor I've had.
Bootsma is amazing - he is comical, understands students, and doesn't make sitting thru class terrible. Nice guy, too.
Bootsma is a really cool and fun professor. He definitely makes the material as fun, interesting, and relate-able as he can. There are occasional quizzes for credit but besides that there is no homework. The tests make up a large part of the grade but aren't too difficult if you read the textbook and go to lecture.
Michael is hilarious and seems passionate about what he does. Easily a favorite professor of mine, but his tests are so hard!!!! You have to spend days studying or there's not way you'll get a passing grade on his exam. There is a slight curve though.
Mike made pretty boring material seem interesting. You can usually choose between reading the book and going to class and you'll pass as he wrote the textbook himself, so the lecture slides follow it to a T. I read and went to class and got an A, but I'm sure you could pass with one or the other. Really cares about his students.
Bootsma really cares about his profession and it shows in his lectures. He is the best professor I have ever had. Very approachable and knowledgeable about the topics. Also a really funny guy.
The best Prof I've ever had. The way he says "statutes" always makes class worth going to. I would highly recommend this Prof. Study hard for the exams!
Great teacher, however the class is challenging. Lots of material and memorizing terms will not get you far. Going in for office hours to talk to him or ask questions is highly recommended. He really wants students to succeed and gives out a lot of study material. Also try to go to class because he gives out EC/attendance points.
Mike is the man. Posts review videos online, gives the answers to the quizzes in class, also gives out some test questions. Funny guy that truly cares about his students and makes business law interesting.
Mike makes it fun to go to class. That's about the only thing he does. Tests are hard and require lots of studying. I wouldnt't take this class unless absolutely necessary.
Professor Bootsma is a fantastic guy. His qualifications are impressive, and he genuinely cares about his students. You will find the lectures entertaining. If you want an A you will need to study for the exams days in advance. The tests are fair. This class is very valuable, I learned a lot, definitely made me smarter!
Memorization. So many terms and lecture is very boring. The only benefit to going may be to get some extra examples but he posts lectures on BB, so towards the end I started skipping and still got 87 on the final. As long as you fill out the study guide he provides, then you're golden. And be sure to know what happens in each case!
Mike is probably the best lecturer I've had, and I've been here for over 3 years. Exams will be tough if you don't study properly, but getting an A or B is easily doable with a little effort.
Turns a dull subject into something thats not as hard to listen to. Genuinely cares about his students and truly loves teaching. Super smart guy and one of my favorite professors at Iowa State
Tough class and not the most exciting topic, but the professor is excellent. Very inspirational, and it is clear he cares about the individuals in his class. Worth taking for sure.
Great teacher and he does care even with 400 students. However, that being said, he can't see how the class is doing. If you have trouble, go see him during office hours. A couple of the tests are rough and the scenarios are a bit confusing. But, if you go every day your quiz points are completed very early on and it takes the weight off.
I took Acct 215 with Mike and really enjoyed his lectures. He's a funny guy and made them entertaining for a 9am class. The material isn't too difficult its just the fact that there's so much of it covered for each exam. But if you study and put the effort in, you will do just fine! Overall, great professor and put effort in and you'll do well.
Mr. Bootsma is a fantastic instructor. He really takes the time and effort to make sure you do as well as you can in his course. He extends office hours, always quick to respond to emails, offers extra credit, gives a clear outline of the course and sticks to it. He goes the extra mile if you do too. He also is pretty funny so his lectures are fun.
Best professor I've ever had at Iowa State. Mike actually cares about his students and makes it known quite often. The material is pretty tough, but he applies it to real situations and adds a lot of humor to make it a lot better. He's a great guy and a great professor, and I wish I could have him for every class. Take a class with him!
Bootsma was by far the best professor I've had here at Iowa State. I can't even summarize the many ways in which he is excellent, knowledgable, empathetic, and fair. His material is hard, but he provides every possible resource you could think of to help his students succeed.
This has easily been my favorite class that I have taken at ISU. The professor knows what he's talking about and makes class interesting.
The class is challenging but so worth taking if you have Bootsma as a professor. He is the most engaged, caring, and humorous professor I have had and hands down one of the best professors at Iowa State. He treats his 400 person lecture hall like a 20 person class in the fact that he really wants to get to know his students & help them succeed.
Bootsma was an awesome lecturer. Class was really interesting and he gives great examples to help you learn. If you put the time into the class, read the textbook, and go to office hours you can easily get an A. There's quizzes spread throughout classes so attendance is pretty much mandatory.
Mike is very nice guy. He teaches the class very well and clear. He is also accessible outside the class. The tests in his class were very difficult and tricky so you need to be careful on his tests specially the test3. You also need to read the textbooks. If you don't understand something it is better to go to his office hours.
Mike Bootsma is a great professor. He really cares about his students and provides a lot of resources to help them succeed. He also makes his lectures interesting with his sense of humor. Although, his exams are challenging ,but if you study the notes and go to class you'll do well. Overall, 10/10 would recommend him as a professor.
Acct. 215 with him can be very hard but you have to put in a lot of work and effort to get a good grade in the class. I recommend reading your book for each chapter and to go to class. The tests are overall pretty tough but he curves every one of them. I enjoyed the class but you have to put in the work to end up with a good grade.
Bootsma is amazing! The content is very dry, but his lectures are worth going to. He explains it in a way that you will remember and he is hilarious! He gives extra credit, lots of points just for coming to class, and he really cares about his students. Start off the semester right by going to class and reading either the book or going over PPTs.
Goes out of his way to help students do their best.
Average instructor. Nice guy, can be mean sometimes. Really loves to emphasize how everything is on the syllabus already. Curves exams usually in the 7-10 pt range.
Bootsma is a great professor, one of the best that I have had at Iowa State University, I think he is the only ACCT 215 Professor so you're stuck with him regardless. He makes his lectures really interesting and engaging for students and always gives good real world examples. The tests can be difficult but as long as you put in effort you'll be god
Great professor. Going to class is very rewarding and you'll learn a lot from him. However, tests are difficult and you must put a lot of efforts to get an A.
Bootsma makes a difficult and fairly dry course very engaging and interesting. He lectures with enthusiasm and demonstrates with examples. He is VERY caring and reaches out to students personally to help them with grades. Hands down the best professor I have had in the college of business. Don't need the textbook but could help, learn terminology.
Hands down my favorite teacher Ive had at Iowa State.
Very personable guy, if you're struggling he is easy to talk to. He makes his material and his examples very memorable.
Professor Bootsma makes his lectures interesting and engaging, but he is difficult to approach outside of class. The best way to have success in this course is to read the chapters, even though they are dry, and utilize all of the exam materials he provides. The exams make up 90% of the grade, so they are extremely important.
Class is way harder than it needs to be. The only reason people take this course is because it's required. Bootsma is a great guy and is super friendly, but having tests be worth 90% of the grade in a class like this is absolutely ridiculous. 70 definitions per chapter and you really need to know your stuff to do well. Good thing C's get degrees.
Bootsma is my absolute favorite professor I've ever had. He's funny, makes things enjoyable to learn, genuinely cares about his students and explains tough concepts concisely. He lets you know that he's available and flexible if you need help outside of class. Genuinely a really great person and I'm lucky to have had him for a professor.
Need to study for the tests, but they are not that bad. Final is not cumulative. Great professor
Bootsma does a great job of preparing students for exams. His study guides and practice exams are very helpful. His lectures are easy to listen to and he does a great job of using examples to make concepts relatable. One of my favorite professors so far.
His lectures, if you take notes, are your primary study source, and he is brilliant at making class fun. Use your notes and review the book before tests and you could get an A. Genuinely cares about all of his students and advertises his office hours frequently.
Bootsma was the textbook definition of how college professors should be. His tests were hard and require a lot of studying, but he makes himself readily available when needed and posts all kinds of review content.
He is really funny and the lectures are not boring. Study for the tests by doing the practice tests and then the test will be easy
Has a cap point system for quizzes. There are enough points even if you don't show up to class and take the online assessments. Really funny guy but compared to my other liberal arts classes this one is an easy grade. Read the book and slides. It is upsetting that he has a lot of grammar errors which really hurts his accountability.
Bootsma is a great professor. Teaches material well. Expectations for tests are well laid out, and he gives you lots of problems similar to those on the exams. If you study the terms the tests will be very doable. Attendance can give you points but you can earn the points from online work, so attendance is not required.
Bootsma is the best professor I have ever had. Exams require a lot of memorization and there are 4 of them. His lectures are hilarious and he frequently makes himself available to help students out. Provides a lot of study materials that help for the exam. Also curves every exam which helps out a lot. Wish I could take this class again
Bootsma is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is honestly just an incredible person in general. Fair grading system with super clear grading criteria. He sets his students up for success. He randomly gives life advice during his class when it is appropriate and I can appreciate this! He has a ton of office hours and is willing to help.
Hands down, Bootsma is the best professor I have ever had. He makes lectures interesting and truly cares about his students. He understands we have other committments, and is willing to work with students. He offers so many office hours. I would take this class again if I could!
Boostma is awesome! Amazing professor who has hilarious lectures. Attendance isnt mandatory but often gives hints or exact exam questions that will be used on your next exam. Easy to access outside of class. If you work hard an A is achievable, I reccommend reading the book, it helps clarify many terms with real world examples
Lecture and readings are important in this class. He is very awesome to talk to before and after exams!
Bootsma makes class enjoyable and its easy to get the 40 quiz points. The exams are the tough part and you really have to grind and study hard for them.
Bootsma is one of my favorite professor at ISU. Cares about his students a lot and puts in effort to help if you put in effort to help yourself. Took this as a summer class so it was difficult and fast paced.
Bootsma is a great professor. A very engaging lecturer and a lot of fun. He genuinely cares about his students and is very knowledgeable. Overall one of the best lecturers I have ever had. He makes Business Law a great class to take.
Very funny guy that really cares about his students and loves his job at Iowa State. He makes dry and difficult material fun and easy to learn. Would take any of his classes again!
I absolutely loved having Mike as one of my professors. He truly cares about all of his students and does a great job at keeping you engaged throughout class. You'll still need to put the time in to get a good grade, but I'd highly recommend taking a class with Mike!
You're graded on 40 quiz points - there's way more than 40 available points for the semester. The remaining 360 points are from 4 exams. So make sure you study for them. The content is pretty straight forward, it's basically a lot of memorizing. Bootsma is a super sociable person and really cares about his students. He had entertaining lectures
Bootsma is one of, if not, the best professor I have had at Iowa State. He makes his lectures super interesting. Up to 40 quiz points to earn for easy points in the class (offers well over 40, maxes out) and the tests aren't that bad. Basically, just go to class and do all of the practice exams. Also, book is nice, but you can live without it tbh.
Bootsma is one of my favorite professors so far. He's really funny and enjoyable to listen to. He posts his lectures online so if you miss class, it's easy to catch up. The material is difficult, so it's required to study hard. He provides a lot of useful resources that makes this class easier.
Bootsma is truly a gem. The info can be boring at times, but he makes it as entertaining and memorable as possible. I will be taking ACCT316 with him, because I have truly enjoyed his class. He also posts prerecorded lectures online, but listening to him in class is most definitely more enjoyable. He is very flexible to meet if you need help.
Bootsma is so so kind and he goes above and beyond to help his students. It is obvious that he is so busy but he will make time for you. He also recognizes the struggles students face in everyday life. He also is a great lecturer and really explains things well. Go to class, it helps and even though it can be boring, he's really pleasant.
Bootsma truly is a great guy who tries to lighten the mood of class every chance he gets. He is a great professor to teach this class and he knows his stuff (after all he did write it). He clearly explained the class and what you need to do to pass.
He truly cares about his students success! The grading for this class is generous towards students. The book is extremely helpful and his lectures aren't to long and point out key material. Learned valuable information and he makes it easy to understand with many examples. Quizzes and exam stimulations help a lot while studying for exams!Great Guy!
Bootsma is awesome! He truly cares about students' success in not just his class, but all of their classes and life. The exams online were open book, so there wasn't a need to watch the lecture videos, but the videos are entertaining so they're worth watching. Be sure to make a little study guide for the exams and get all of the quiz points.
It's been a few years since I took ACCT 215 with Bootsma. Far and away the best professor I have ever had. He makes the class accessible, and does an incredible job of making boring subject matter interesting. If I could have Michael Bootsma teach every single class I would absolutely take it.
Professor Bootsma is very entertaining and it makes a boring class more fun. Do the readings and take notes on the lectures and you'll be fine.
Mike really cares about his students and takes the time to get to know them. A real gem of the ISU faculty. I would 100% recommend any of his courses.
Probably one of the best professors ive had. Hes very clear on what you need to do in order to get an A in the class. I would definitely recommend you take acct 215 with him!
Bootsma is hands down the best professor that Ivy has. I recommend taking him no matter what. Exams can be difficult but with some solid hours of studying you'll be fine. For ACCT 215, I believe that the textbook is unnecessary unless you think you're going to struggle with the material. Also, taking good notes on top of his lecture slides is key.
You'll have to work in this class no matter what so he makes it more fun
By far the best professor I have ever had. If I could take every class with him I would. His lectures are easy to listen to and he is a funny guy. The tests are more about little details so reading the book makes a pretty big difference but he will go over the big stuff in his lectures. 10/10 professor and will help you a tone out of class too.
Really lives up to his high rating. He cares about students and that they are doing well in the class. He makes lectures fun. You want to take this class in person.
Bootsma was an amazing Professor who truly cared about his students. He was always accessible and encouraged his students to reach out for help or visit his office hours. He was very passionate about this course which was why it was a fun course to take. Exams are very tough but he provided more than enough resources to succeed. Highly recommend!
Professor Bootsma is great but the class is super boring. The lectures are long and that is the only thing class consists of. I don't blame Bootsma for the boringness though, I just think Business Law is not exciting and he does the best he can. Exams are straight forward and he gives tons of review opportunities and practice exams through canvas.
I took this online, and if I had to do it again I would probably do it in person. I struggled to actually retain stuff from the online lectures, so I would cram for the exams. The exams had a ton of material on them, so there's no winging these. You either know the material or you don't. Mike is a fun guy though and really cares about his students!
His recorded lectures were engaging and worth the listen. Great at communicating over email and through canvas. Truly cares about you as a student and individual. Learned a lot and would recommend!
Professor Bootsma was an absolute joy to have as an instructor. He was very funny, helpful, and made lectures very interesting because of hypothetical stories, and not taking himself too seriously. Also, you could tell he actually wanted students to learn. For my class, a lot of people scored badly on an exam and he allowed everyone to retake.
Mike was genuinely the best professor I have had at ISU. He was funny, kept lectures entertaining, and his exams matched the topics discussed in class. He is also very accessible and wants his students to do well.
Actually the best professor I've ever had. Everyone likes him for a reason. His class is enjoyable, the tests are not hard as long as you have a general understanding of the material. Take ACCT 215 with Prof. Bootsma, seriously. Its a good time.
Awesome
He is a great professor. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to work with them if they struggle. He is funny, cares a lot about all his students, and wants to get to know each of them. The exams are somewhat difficult if you do not study, but if you do, then you will be fine.
Professor Bootsma is super accessible. I took this class online but he always made sure to let us know how to contact him, and he responded quickly to emails. He's an engaging & hilarious lecturer and really wants his students to succeed. It's a fair amount of reading, but interesting content.
Amazing professor who truly cares about his student during and after the class has ended. Clear grading and good lectures. Up to you to determine what grade you get depending on how well you study. Lots of material to learn and comprehend. 4 tests, a quiz/chapter, exams get curves most of the time. Would def recommend over the other ACCT215 teacher
The GOAT. Take any class he teaches and don't think twice about it. He is caring and pretty funny.
He is the Goat. Even though it was a law class, he made it entertaining. I would say take this man if you can. He wrote a textbook, but you don't need it to pass the class. If you sit near the front, he will try to remember your name, and that's always nice. Overall it's a hard class because its mainly exams, but a -B is the average
In order to succeed you need to memorize all the content. There is a lot, but it is doable. He responds to emails quickly and wants you to do well. I found the online class very doable as long as you keep up with the notes and make sure you're retaining everything before exam day. Really nice guy
AWESOME. He is so funny and made online acct 215 so great. He answered emails within a day and always gives a little extra credit on exams. You do need to watch the lecture videos and read a little bit of the textbook to understand the content but he makes it enjoyable!
The BEST professor at Iowa State. Makes every lecture so interesting with funny skits and humor. Gives genuine real-life examples that help. The exam simulations are very similar to the actual exams. Try and get him for Acct 215 if you can.
Overall a really great class. Lectures aren't required to go to but Bootsma is really funny so it's always worth going and so you don't miss material. Prepares you really well for exams and is always willing to meet with students outside of class.
Bootsma is the man! He has great lectures which are easy to take notes on and he always post them online so you can follow along. He explains terms and ideas very well that is easy to understand and provides practice exams which are EXTREMELY helpful to prep for real exams which are all multiple choice and usually get 4-6 point curves. Smart guy.
Bootsma is the man! Took his ACCT 215 class and although the four exams were a strong majority of the grade (350 out of the 400 pts) he provided practice exams and very solid lectures/notes to help with the exams. Most exams got 4-6 point curves as well. Was great at explaining terms and concepts in class and made class fun and engaging to attend.
One of the best professors at Iowa State. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His lectures are fun. He always made his class fun by making it very interactive. The exams are not that hard, if you study, it is pretty straightforward. I would take a class with him again.
Bootsma is a great man, and will thank you for coming to class...just about every single class. Some may say he's weird, but c'mon, his teaching ways are what should be emulated by the Ivy College of Business. I wish more professors were like him, seriously.
The class is test-heavy, but Mike is always there for his students. He is easily accessible, even willing to make arrangements outside of office hours to meet with students and help them out, whether it pertains to class or their personal lives. He is truly caring and a very great professor. He makes class interesting with stories and humor.
My favorite professor in the College of Business! He has won the voted staff award almost every year in a row.
I took this class in person but would recommend taking it online. The lectures are all entirely available on Canvas and I personally didn't feel that attending in person added anything to the learning experience. Mike is very willing to answer questions and wants students to succeed. This is an easy class if you put in the minimum effort!
Bootsma is an amazing professor who actually cares about his students. Attendance isn't mandatory, extra credit for the lecture before break. Makes his lectures fun and entertaining. He gives out t-shirts and prizes, very engaging. He does lots of examples/stories. Recommend watching online videos, 1 hour video for the whole week of lectures.
Professor Bootsma makes this class fun and engaging. He provides great study resources like practice exams, and is always willing to meet one-on-one. Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool too.
Hands down the best instructor. He is extremely accommodating, funny, and chill. While his exams are weighted 80% of your grade if you attend the review sessions, do the readings, and attend the lectures, you will do just fine. I enjoyed taking ACCT 215 with him. I strongly recommend anyone who is taking ACCT 215 to take it with him.
Professor was very knowledgeable about the topic and you could tell he wanted you to succeed. Lecture videos were very nice weekly and the exams weren't that difficult.
Grading felt VERY subjective/moody - the rubric for PPT was made AFTER assignments were due. Getting 10/10 felt like a moving target. Interesting class, but poorly taught, with many grammar errors and little clarity on what he wants. 3 exams worth 60%, 20 MC questions, and 7-9 short answers in an hour 15. He thinks he's nice, but beware his lies.
Be sure to attend class and to go through the textbook, exam reviews, and other available content and you will get an A. Bootsma is great at teaching and giving clear guidance
Very engaging lectures. Exam review sessions were also very helpful. Love Bootsma!
amazing professor
The best professor at ISU. Makes lectures engaging and fun. GO TO CLASS!
I never skipped a lecture, BY CHOICE! this man loves his students so much. he will never waste your time, and will ALWAYS help you when you ask.
Professor Bootsma is by far one of the better professors at Iowa State. He's not one of the professors that reads off slideshows, he actually cares about his students and genuinely wants you to succeed. He is always there to help you and encourages you to talk to him if you are lost. The exams require a bit of studying but are not too difficult.
Funny guy- always willing to help out, not a particularly difficult course either
