Very helpful teacher. Marks essays quite hard but is always willing to help point you in right direction. Brisbois is very passionate about what he is teaching and you can tell he is very knowledgable. I would recommend taking his class.
I highly recommend attending his classes. (not mandatory, except 5% attendance grade). His lectures are extremely interesting! He is (overwhelmingly) smart and is aware of students independent learning abilities/types. He uses a mixture of learning strategies to stimulate all types of learners. Very good teacher. Highly recommended.
Great teacher! Essay topics are okay, but definitely enthusiastic about teaching this field! Makes class entertaining, and his sarcasm is hilarious. Wish I had him for 103!!!
This is what you want in a prof, extremely interesting lectures that you want to research and learn about, cares about teaching and will help you understand what you need to do. Tough marker in the sense he will make you a better writer, that's what you look for. Highly recommend.
I still miss his amazingly engaging classes! He's younger so he rose to working in a university quickly - what does that tell you? He is incredibly helpful in office hours, and has the most sharp, witty humour. He doesn't tolerate students who plagiarize so don't bother- he got someone on academic probation. It's an INTRO COURSE, just do the work
One of the best profs I had through my entire time at University. Can't say enough great things about him. Extremely helpful and takes the time to connect with his student. His lectures were also very interesting... Michael seems to know a lot about everything. lol.
He is: incredibly smart not only when it comes to english related things, funny, willing to help you with anything. He is good. Gets you thinking! Every time I leave his class my mind is on over drive! However, he doesn't explain the assignments very well in my opinion but if you ask him for help he will always offer it
I also can't say enough good things, I loved his lectures and found them inspirtational to want to go write a book! I found the classes flew by because they were engaging and if you put in hard work he would recognize that. A lot of readings, but its english so... what do you expect?
amazing prof, we really clicked. Funny, witty, insightful, and really sold English academics to me! I thought I would need a tutor for English, but he really convinced me of my strengths and helped me flourish.
Great Prof! Never would I have ever thought english would have been my favourite class in a semester. Dr. Brisbois is very smart and shows it. He is also young and uses many pop culture references to relate to his students which makes class that much more interesting.
Captivating lectures, fun and funny, and makes it easy to participate. My class often found we were learning without it feeling like it.
Lectures are useless, he is unclear and you have to email/go see him for clarification. Find myself doing more work for this class than any other. Attendance is marked. Does everything last minute so make sure you know when assignments/quizzes are and what they are on as he will likely not tell you until the day of. I dreaded this class all term.
I enjoyed his online class and appreciated his video clarification on assignments. Be prepared though he is one of the toughest markers I have ever had! I worked my butt off and was lucky enough to get a B in the course.
Best English class I have ever been in! He marks very fairly, and is really good at clarifying! His classes are hilarious and it's completely worth it to attend. He never gave us homework, and for the essays he did an excellent job at guiding us through them. I would definitely reccomend him!
His lectures may not always relate to the assignments, but they're INCREDIBLY well prepared and very interesting. Although he doesn't give free/easy marks, his grading is fair and representative of your effort. He's always willing to help review your papers; seek him out through office hours or e-mail if you need clarification!
Dr. Bisbois' lectures are incredible. You probably don't need to attend them to even do great in the course but they are definitely worth attending. He's very helpful and is great to talk to about anything. You'll learn a lot about life and the world in his class. Get him for a prof if at all possible!
Dr. Brisbois is a very good teacher. He is there for assistance when you need it, however, you'll have to see his in his office. He's very nice, but a bit of a tough-grader. His essays are in general 1000ish words, which means he expects content!
Dr. Brisbois is easily one of my favourite English professor. I wish I could take ENGL 103 with him again. He gives good feedback, and is always there to help whenever you need it. Work hard in his class, and you should be able to get a good mark. :)
Its difficult to get good grades, even if you are working hard. And get ready to read lots of essays.
I had Dr. Brisbois for English 102. I really enjoyed his lectures, they were very though provoking and not as "boring" as I usually find English classes. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the lengthy readings His classes are very well prepared and thoughtful towards the main objectives of the course! Overall, great prof!
Can tell he loves teaching and tries to incorporate everyone's different learning styles into lectures. While he was a little unclear on how to do the assignments, i found him very helpful when i went to him for help. Never would've thought this class would end up being a gpa booster. Fair marker. Taking ENGL103 with him too.
Really enjoyed lectures and assignments. Moderately tough grader and marked attendance. Very helpful guy with great feedback and a love for literature. Would take again!
Comes off as kind of stuck up and a know it all at the start but throughout the course becomes very approachable and helpful. Would definitely take English with him again. A lot of group discussions on readings that are assigned at the beginning of the course. Should go to class but not a huge problem if you don't.
Wouldn't recommend.
He is really interesting. I could listen to him talk for hours but his grading criteria is not clear. I personally found his lectures did not relate to assignments and he did not spend enough time explaining assignments clearly. His feedback on essays was not helpful i had to see him numerous times. If engl is not your strong suit find a diff. prof
Marks attendence. Very good for explaining many university concepts to first year students. Makes you work for your grades but it is clear what is expected and he makes you a better student in the end
Good professor. Helpful in giving additional after class time to those who need it. A little bit on the dry side for lectures but good material covered and marking expectations were very well explained. Very organized and formal.
Michael was one of the chillest profs I've ever had. He makes his lectures interesting by having a modern twist on them which relates to students. He is very clear what he expects from you on assignments. He responds to email very quick so you get feedback right away, very easy to approach for help during office hours. Defiantly recommend!
I took ENGL102 with Dr. Brisbois and ENGL103 with him as well, simply because I learned so much from him. He is a tough grader, but he makes you a better student overall and helps you improve in your work exponentially. He makes use of modern day references which are engaging and keep you coming back for more. I highly recommend this professor.
I loved Brisbois's lectures, but unfortunately English is not my strong suit and he is a difficult marker. Be prepared to read!!
He makes the lectures interesting, and besides some quizzes, all of the material that is worth marks is done out of class. He provides clear instructions on what he expects.
Great lecturing!!
Dr. Brisbois is a life changing professor. He gives amazing lectures, and genuinely cares about his students' marks. He really enjoys his work, and it shows.
I hate English, but Michael made it not so bad! He marks very fairly! He assigns readings for every class, but you are never tested on them, so you don't need to do them! His lectures are actually interesting and make you think! Come to class, as you are marked on attendance and participation! Overall, made English one of my favourite classes.
Michael was an awesome instructor for English, and it'd be great to have him again. He does mark tough, though, and while he gives feedback on the papers, it looks a bit like chicken scratch (so if you can't read it, ask. He's a pretty nice guy and it's better to know.) Otherwise, his lectures are awesome, and I feel like I learned a lot from him.
Not sure how any other professor will compare. Not only does he know what he's teaching, but he does it well & w/ enthusiasm. Actually cares about what students have to say. Readings he assigns are on topics worth discussing. If you take his class, prepare for Tolkien references, questioning morals, & cheese conspiracy theories. (kidding but nr)
I honestly thought I'd hate university English until I stepped into Dr. Brisbois's class. Although he is a tough marker, he makes up for it in his lectures, his abundance of knowledge and hilarious comments. I recommend Michael to anyone, even if you're not the strongest at English. He will make you better while making it fun in the process.
Really funny and interesting guy! However, if you do not share the same ideology as him it is difficult to receive an A in the class. Attendance is worth a percentage of your grade so definitely recommend going!
Words cannot describe how great Brisbois' class was. He made first year English virtually stress free, while providing entertaining lectures that were still relevant to the course material. His class without a doubt exceeded my expectations for intro English.
He was a great professor, awesome for opening your eyes after 3 years of bad English teachers in high school. He shares compelling content and I would recommend taking this class in your first semester to see what university level English has to offer. Some of the content he shares can be difficult but he always provides more options if needed.
I can't get over how much I enjoyed this class! I normally hated English classes, but Dr. Brisbois made me look forward to each one of his lectures. They were so interesting because they mainly revolved around more current things. Just overall an amazing guy and great prof!
I've take Engl 103 twice before with other profs and almost failed both times. My major is not English and all the other profs in the English department have very high and unrealistic expectations for this class. Michael is the best prof in the English department. He teaches this course at the level it is suppose to be at.
Really great guy, funny, and made English which I hate a pretty decent class.
REAL GEM! Honestly did not want to do an English course for the death of me but he made it an extremely enjoyable and educational class! Attendance is graded and noticed by him but you wount wanna skip cause it was such a great class! Wish he taught more courses!!!
What can I say but awesome. He made his lectures super interesting with his expanded knowledge. He was a very reasonable marker with the papers and with give you pretty useful advice back. I would for sure take him again for my next class.
He is clearly very passionate & knowledgable about English, which is demonstrated in his lectures, but has unrealistic expectations of the interest of students taking a (required) intro ENGL course. Long, boring readings assigned for nearly every class which most students don't even bother to look at Fair marker & bases grade off multiple things
Michael is easily one of the best English professors in MacEwan, he is always willing to help you and gives you clear feedback. His lectures consist of very long readings, but he manages to make them interesting. Although he is a tough grader, he still marks fairly. He is hilarious and very knowledgeable, would take 103 with him again!
Michael was awesome, he made class interesting and was so nice on our tests. He let us have an open book midterm and an open book final. However, it's up to you to do the readings and keep up with the class but he makes it easier by getting you to ask a question weekly about the content you'd be reading so you were forced to read ahead. So nice!
I struggled with English classes in High School, but Michael made it way less stressful. The essays are time-consuming, but he is a pretty lenient grader and gives fantastic feedback (although his writing is pretty hard to read). His lectures can be dry, but he tries to make it enjoyable and he is an overall great professor. Would recommend!
Best prof I have had yet. He is hilarious and makes lectures really interesting. He has high expectations for marking but if you take his feedback seriously he really helps you improve. Lots of readings assigned (I didn't do any and still have an A). Graded on multiple things. Just show up and get to know him too
I genuinely like this guy. I enjoyed his class. He gives reasonable assignments, excellent feedback, and he encourages students to develop better writing skills. I would definitely enjoy taking another course taught by this professor. MacEwan University should hire him to teach more courses, as students get their money's worth with him.
Dr Brisbois is hands down, the best English Professor. I would probably take this course 30 more times if possible, I learnt from Brisbois more than my 12 years at grade school. Lots of reading; lectures are based on them. Brisbois teaches you so much, the class is very attentive, and knowledge is constantly flickering the room. Opened my 3rd eye
lectures were totally unnecessary for the assignments given in class. tough marker. doesn't teach any relevant material. if you are already a good writer take this class it will be a piece of cake. anyone who struggles with writing or is looking for a prof to help you learn, this is not the prof for you.
Dr. Michael J. Brisbois is a great Professor. He is passionate about teaching and what he studies in his spare time. English is one of my most challenging subjects, yet, he made it worth engaging in. He cares about his students. I would learn from his as long as he was willing to teach.
Brisbois is truely passionate about literature and you will be hard pressed to find a better instructor for this subject. Lectures were always fun, interesting, and engaging. If you do the readings (ALL of them!), attend lectures, and stay on top of assignments, you will do well!
Although Dr. Brisbois is very passionate about literature and his lectures, he's a very tough marker and has high expectations considering it's a 100 level course. His lectures can get heavy and he can get off topic when getting into detail. I was in his spring course and I found that his office hours were limited as well.
Good lectures, great prof. and makes english very interesting. Tough grader though.
Dr. Brisbois is awesome, he picks excellent course material, puts A LOT of thought and effort in to the course, and his passion for literature and poetry is inspiring. Assignments are straightforward, but he expects you to work hard to get a decent grade, so if writing is not your strong suit, make sure to ask for his feedback!
amazing lectures!! class is amazing and so interesting. grabs your attention real quick... funny too!! definitely recommend!!
Best Professor I've ever had. He has completely changed my look on school and life. You definitely have to work for your grade but he is willing to help by giving solid advice and ideas. Do not be afraid to engage in his reading discussions in class, you will learn something every class if you keep and an open mind.
Never a dull lecture with this prof! He's also very helpful if you bring your drafts to him for feedback. He is a hard marker though, so take advantage of as much help as you can get from him.
Dr. Brisbois is very knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting as he relates back to modern time and makes the class laugh. Although, he is a very tough marker. Very strict on marking for very small details even. His lectures are not related to the assignments given although it is good to go as easy marks are taken for attendance.
The guy was born to be an English prof. Take that as a blessing or a curse. Knows his "stuff", clearly cares about what he teaches, and I would say cares about his students. If you genuinely want to improve your writing ability take his course. If you want a more laid back class find someone else. Attendance/participation is 5%.
He is overall a good professor but be prepared to try and get on his good side. He is a tough grader and tends to mark more poorly when asked for help. Lectures are fun most of the time and you need to show up for attendance grades. He is fairly accommodating for those who are sick and/ or new to the class. Due dates are sticky.
He is very funny and an enthusiastic teacher and his lectures are always very interesting even if they don't always align with assignments. He can be a difficult marker but gives a lot of feedback outside of class if you try to contact him. He also gives a lot of free marks with assignments that are based on completion and very easy grammar quizzes
I took Michael Brisbois for ENG 102, he treats it as a very hard course for a 100 level. His lectures are totally off topic and not related to any assignments he assigns. Attendance is mandatory. Very hard marker, expects a lot. His lectures can be kind of tedious and drag on as well. Wouldn't recommend for a 100 level. Definitely a lot of work.
this guy treats everyone in class as if you are in junior high, mandatory attendance, and he says a bunch of phylisophical quotes as if he is a genius..... reads into things way to much
Although he is very passionate about literature, his classes were difficult to follow. the assignments were very confusing and were not explained well. this is an intro class and he treated like it was a thesis course full of fourth years. very high expectations and very hard marker.
An insane level of readings for an intro class. Mean, and actively talks down to students.
Dr. Brisbois is very good at what he does. Knowledgeable and straight forward, and you can tell he is very passionate about literature. Make sure to take notes when he answers the questions from the discussion board - these are going to be short answers for the final. Makes u work for ur marks, but very reasonable with is grading.
The amount of readings that need to be done is overwhelming. I agree with the other reviews in that he talks down to students. He demands their respect but doesnt respect them. He told us what was going to be on the exam so we could study, then ended up making it completely different. Not a good class for your GPA. Dont recommended him AT ALL.
-Very tough grader -Doesn't give good feedback (his writing is tough to read) -Deducts marks for things that are not technically wrong (Ex: if he doesn't like how you structured your sentence or the words you used, you lose marks) -Lots of useless lectures (talks about stuff irrelevant to the assignments) -At least he doesn't call on people
V. hard marker, if you don't evaluate the work how he would like, expect a C on your paper. I ended up finding all the vocab. deffs. online bcuz he wasn't very clear in lectures on what we needed to know &didn't post notes - would really plow through material, that's why I say attendance is mandatory. I consulted google a lot in this course lol
Insane amount of readings for an introductory course. Actively rude in class, talks down to students. Very hard grader, does not tell you what he looks for. I will never take another course with him.
I had Micheal for English 102 in the Fall 2014 Semester. Loved his lectures and especially how he was able to help me transform how I approached English from a high school level to a university level. Very passionate about English. If you're a nursing student and have him, you are lucky as he also teaches English from a nursing lens.
Professor Brisbois is not as bad as he is described to be. There are a lot of readings, and he is very specific on what he wants with essays, but if you format it how he wants it to be you'll be fine. He's always available to help outside of class and is extremely kind, if you go to him there is no reason to do bad on the essays. he was great (:
If attendance wasn't for marks then there would be no point going to class. He spends more time going on philosophical rants than teaching. Huge waste of time and he doesn't provide any clarification on what you do wrong on his assignments. Terrible professor for a 100 level course.
A fun class with him, though he is a hard marker and marks are broken down between many things (in class writing, attendance, readings, papers, grammar quizzes etc) definitely makes you work for you grade and effort is involved
Great guy, good teacher
Had him as my Engl 102 teacher for the fall 2020 term which was fully online. Struggled with English a lot throughout high school and Dr. Brisbois' class really helped me. Super nice guy and gave lots of advice, not just for the course but for reading and writing as a whole. Made weekly vlogs and the class was structured very well. Fair marker too.
genuinely was the teacher that gave the most effort given it being online. I found everything he said super insightful and helpful in understanding narrative better.
Michael is a nice guy but he grades too tough for entry level... I'm a 4th year, done 6+ english courses receiving an A/+ each time and found his marking quite intense. For the final we had to compare 3 pieces of literature + a novel (out of 30-some pieces) but we didn't get to know which ones until the exam. High expectations
Take this professor for ENGL-102! Yea there are lots of readings in the course outline but I never did them and I did fine in the class. Use the textbook for assignments to follow APA and MLA format!!!
If you put in the work and follow instructions, you should be fine in his class. Hes very kind and is willing to help if you ask.
Doctor Bribois is very passionate about literature and its reflected in the lectures. The lectures are entertaining and inspiring even if they arn't related to some course topics. He is a tough marker but if you have a willingness to improve as a writer and an academic Dr Brisbois is an excellent professor
Easily my favorite prof. Inspiring and makes class enjoyable.
Very nice guy, but I don't recommend him online. I took his class in my first semester (Fall 2020), so the class was online because of covid. No guidance whatsoever. Didn't teach citations for first-year students. Assignments honestly made no sense for someone with no uni-level English experience. My higher-level engl class is easier
Everyone should want this teacher. He makes the student understand the purpose of the course. Also he lifts and practices a martial art. Really cool guy.
Very kind professor! He is very knowledgable about what he is teaching. Attendance is pretty mandatory, but he makes it entertaining. Very understanding, fair grading, expectations are pretty clear. Not too much work, he didn't make the course overwhelming which was appreciated!
he was a very stern prof wore suits to class and all that. very hard marker and his feedback would be impossible to read. he was a nice person though and they were readings almost every class but i never read it and it was fine. there were grammar quizzes and a couple of essays and we did peer reviews for marks.
His lectures are very enjoyable during the first month! If you do the readings regularly you will continue to enjoy the lectures for the rest of the course. The readings were all very similar. The work load was not as much as I anticipated at all! If you like to email your professors you should know that he is inaccessible outside of campus hours.
Dr.Brisbois is so passionate, fun and engaging in his lectures, you can really tell he loves what he is doing and wants to see his students succeed! You can expect to have homework everynight from this class but some are readings, videos, comic books, musical albums, etc so overall fun homework. Pretty fair midterm exam based all on class materials
Mandatory attendance + Awful handwriting which makes critiques impossible to read + Too few assignments to compose our grade = A not so enjoyable academic experience
Best prof I've had. Attendance is mandatory but it doesn't even matter because you look forward to class. Super smart guy and always funny. The course material was awesome. Can be a tough grader, but if you meet him during office hours he will help set you up for success. Not an English major or minor but hoping to take him again in the future!
I love him. He's funny, kind, and provides examples of assignments as well as a rubric. However, he's a tough grader and his feedback is thorough and not rude. I would take him over and over if I could. He's so funny AND can teach, but try in his class and you'll be fine.
He's a tough marker, but he's fair. Use his critques/feedbacks to help with your future assignments. Make an effort to participating in his class discussions and you will be rewarded.
His expectations were somewhat high but I really like how he delivers information in class and lets everyone give their 2 cents about it. He's also very approachable and accessible outside class as long as you email him before 4, he will reply to you always. He's also willing to discuss topics with you more and give you feedback from your past work
His lectures are actually entertaining and he has a very efficient teaching method towards how to become a better writer. Gives very good feedback and helps as much as he can. I learned a lot and was encouraged to become the best writer I could be. Papers were straight forward and he doesn't grade tough. Amazing professor.
Michael was amazing, his class can be difficult at times as he likes to challenge students as much as possible however if you attend regularly and do the readings it's a very straight forward class. He wants everyone to succeed as much as possible. would recommend to everyone!
Really great and helpeful prof. would take classes with him again.
Would not take this prof, because no matter how better you do he won't grade unless you are PERFECT. One of my papers he said you did better but i am not satisfied so i will grade you lower than the last assignment.
Loved his lectures, they're very engaging. He is very accessible and will give excellent feedback on essays if you have specific questions during his office hours. He is witty, and the class readings were interesting. There were a few group discussions which I liked, and nothing ever felt rushed. Ask him how to do better and he will help
Dr. Brisbois is fantastic! If I get the opportunity to take another course of his I will. Attendance is graded but I found his lectures to be very engaging so that should not be a problem. His feedback is really hard to read, but he is very willing to clarify, should you have a need.
Michael made english really fun and provided a valuable learning experience. Good grades arent easy, but he gives lots of great feedback and guidelines to writing a good essay. Lots of reading and essay work outside of class. Essay prompts were given before the midterms and finals
Made going to English class worth it. I took ENGL 104, so cannot speak on 102, or other classes, but it was an engaging class on media and media forms. If you're interested in narratives in media and need to take English , I highly recommend Engl 104 with Dr. Brisbois. Wrote 2 essays + 2 more for midterm and final. Many weekly readings/watchings.
where do i begin. I've always liked English but this so called ''doctor'' is a pain. He gives little to no feedback and is a very tough grader his handwriting is awful and nearly impossible to read... it seems no matter how much i try to get tips or any sort of help from him he goes bland. liking English and writing has never felt so rough. sigh
Overall, I found Brisbois's lectures very engaging. The course was mainly peer reviews, debrief reports, and essay re-writes. The only downside was his vague feedback. I received inconsistent or contradicting feedback that often my friends did not get. I also needed to decode majority of his handwriting. Hit up office hours to clear confusion.
Ive taken 3 english classes and this class was the worst of them all. I wouldnt recommend this class to anyone whos not strong in english. Lots of reading and midterm was closed book, written response based on 20+ readings. Final was 3 hour written essay using 5 sources, closed book. Dont miss any classes, or you will get marks taken away.
Incredibly passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are very helpful, but you could get by without attending most (though I recommend you do). Brisbois is an amazing speaker, leaves detailed and helpful feedback, and is always available to chat about the course.
Dr Brisbois has to be hands down the best instructor I have ever had. He is just the sweetest and I loved going to his class, I completely recommend taking his class
Dr. Brisbois was an incredible professor. His lectures were engaging. However, he is a very tough grader. Sometimes his advice is helpful but sometimes it doesn't help at all. I've always been decent at writing but I still struggled to get above a B on the writing assignments. Despite his grading and advice I would recommend him.
Engaging lectures, accessible prof who provides great feedback. Used Unstuck AI alongside ChatGPT and textbook to excel. Attendance mandatory but worth it - he's witty and makes the material interesting.
Lectures were very engaging and he is able to articulate himself very well during explanations. His grammar tests were hard, but pushed me to become a better writer. I strongly feel that my writing improved dramatically after seeing the feedback for my writing assignments throughout the course.
alot of reading. grammar quizzes were very hard. he is a TOUGH grader, so if you aren't already VERY strong in english i DONT recommend. his feedback is in cursive but so scrambled extremely hard to read. he is a nice person though. class wasn't that engaging but it wasn't boring either. attendance is mandatory as he has lots of small workshops.
I really enjoyed his class, he made English engaging for me even though I hate English. The grammar quizzes are tough, but they were not worth very much. He is very accessible outside of class. His feedback on essays was written in cursive, however, if you asked him to clarify he would.
Charming, super knowledgeable, and a great speaker. Goes on the occasional commie rant.
Although Michael is an understanding person, this class was very content heavy. You'll be reading lots on a weekly and on top of that you are expected to do lots of assignments. He is a tough marker so be prepared to not expect leniency in that factor. Overall he was a nice prof but could organize readings and assignments better.
hes intresting and very smart, good enlgish teacher and fair marker. Attendence is mandatory. he always gives good feedback and wants his students to do well
From what I could tell our class was more quiet than he was used to and he didn't really know how to accommodate that, leading to many of his lectures feeling like they were missing parts. He used a quantity over quality approach to examples, which didn't give us enough time to fully understand how an example connected back to the course themes.
Professor Brisbois is passionate about his teachings and is a good person, but if you are not already a professional writer I suggest you find a different professor. I had more readings and assignments in this class than all of my other classes combined. He is a very tough grader and I was shocked by how positive some of the other reviews were.
If you are not strong in English would not recommend. He is nice, but a TOUGH grader and feedback is pretty vague. There is little opportunity for marks with workshops, but lots of essays and readings. Again, TOUGH grader if you're not CONFIDENT and STRONG in English, don't recommend.
You can tell that Dr. Brisbois cares very deeply for English as a subject. But, just as a heads up, he is a very tough marker, and I mean VERY difficult marker. I took ENGL 102 prior to his class (with a different prof) and received an overall A+. When I arrived in Dr. Brisbois class, my first essay garnered a measly C. Good luck!
Never done so much work for a class let alone 100 level, Bit ridiculous and the final exam was a comparative essay about 3 random works we read during the year. Thumbs down overall experience
Engl103 is a tough class. readings included about 21 poems 8 short stories, a novel and 4 critical readings. Took Michael in an online class, very accessible through emails and on campus, very caring and makes weekly videos to explain stuff. Tough grader. final was comparing 4 works he specifies. the course is hard but it ends well if u try.
Focused on concepts covered in prerequisites classes. The class segued into cinematic concepts but this Prof didn't offer anything that stood out from the textbook. Grades were lettered rather than percentages and almost none posted on Meskanas so you have no idea how the final went. Would not take another class as he added nothing to U experience
He provided good feedback and made his class interesting using fun and current material
This professor is great, the lecture videos he gives are fun. However this is an ONLINE course. I do not understand why we have to write a final essay, worth 30% of our grade, and to top it all off, there's a list of stuff you need to print and 4 books you should buy to go into the final. For me, it's not a great GPA booster.
Attendance is mandatory since it was worth 10% of the overall grade. He is honestly very intelligent at what he does and always gives very good feedback. Helps you a lot with your essays and writing in general. Lectures were boring at times but it gave good insight on readings.
Online class . Please stop making me come to office hours. It's an online class stop it. Realistically this is the most difficult class I have ever taken. For the sake of your own life do not do it. It doesn't matter if you enjoy English or the arts if you don't write his way it's not it. Dropped this class and lost money but gained sanity
Dr. Brisbois is definitely a tough marker, however, if you follow his rubrics and do your essays the way he wants them, you'll get an easy grade. He is SO nice and gives amazing feedback. I would 100% recommend him.
