Loved the class and I'm not the best writer

The in class discussions are entertaining and intersting, if you CAN WRITE he is easy, if you can't...i wouldnt take his class. He is very political and LOVES talking about **** MARRIAGE and social justice.

EASY, you can revise everything for the grade that you want. If you care about your GPA and want to transfer to a good school easily...take this class for an easy A.

He's an awesome teacher who initiates some really interesting class discussions. He really makes you think and want to write. I recommend taking him for any class.

He's really cool and acts younger than he really is.He gives you plenty of opportunities to do well and loves when you do.

Mr. Broek makes writing easier. He loves to get into political discussions and get people outraged to try to make a change in the world. He loves anything you write as long as you try.

Mr. Broek is a great teacher. Very helpful and very layed back when it comes to class. Never yells or gets upset, and will let you leave when all of your stuff is done, so basically you can leave early.

Fine teacher. I do not agree about him not encouraging free thought, perhaps it was not about thought, but your writing skills! Encourages talented students, but does not pick favorites. He is socially aware and encourages literacy. A true asset to academia!

He's the man! He really wants you to learn and be motivated to learn. He wants everyone to interact with one another and to particpate in class. This class was an easy A for myself. That means it should be the same for you. He's definitely a great guy with a great heart.

this prof is very helpful and understanding had to do just three reesearch papers through out the semester. the last one is your choice. some times he lets u get out early too. take him if possible.

He really is a great teacher. He makes writing papers not be something to eat and you get a lot of class time to work on your papers. Plus we have these weeks where we only need to meet with him for like ten minutes...sweet!

Great professor, highly recommended. If you have to take ENGL 121, definitely take this professor and do whatever you have to do in the class. He's amazing.

What a great teacher. He is one of those teachers that make you want to get up and actually go to class. Papers are made interesting and informative. You actually learn from this guy.

He's the best. He's very helpful and understanding. He's funny and he tries to get everyone comfortable with him and everyone else so the class is very enjoyable. I'm actually switched from World Literature to American Literature so I can have him again.

Professor Broek is the MAN!! i totally recommend him for any English class!

This man makes me laugh and cry. He listens to other perspectives; he makes people open to new ones. He's brilliant.

Very funny and intelligent guy. Really supportive and interested in reciting/creating poetry. Really knows his stuff. Doesn't mind if you are absent or late. No work- all in-class and a discussions!

professor broek is awesome! in intro to poetry you grade is based on three things: a midterm, a final, and class participation. there's no other homework. if you have an opinion on a poem, its considered class participation. you learn a lot from it too. there's a lot of extra credit opportunities,and he's more than willing to help you with thework

Mr. Broek is great! Only 2 midterm essays, a research paper and two final essays for the whole class. Allows up to two absences before he starts deducting points. NO TEXTBOOK! He prints out everything we read (usually parts of stories, or short stories). Very cool guy, kind of dweeby, very nice.

This was a Distance Ed. class. It was obvious, he's passionate about creative writing. I only wish I knew that it was a very strong interest in poetry which I am not fond of. However, because he had a simplicity about his teaching, made this so much more tolerable. He answers emails regularly and will always answer questons.

Broek is so great, the first day he was cracking jokes and made everyone laugh. He knows exactly what he wants in every paper, and doesn't require them to be longer than 5 or 6 pages. He is a fair grader and really wants you to be a good writer. I don't mind going to english with him as a teacher ! DEF. take him if possible, you won't regret it.

Good teacher and fairly easy class. If you read what you have to read it is super easy and even if you do not it is still possible to catch up. Grade is based on Midterm and Final which is 3 essays each of 2 pages and a Research paper on a story you want to read from the text, 6 pages. Very intelectual teacher who helps you understands the stories

Had him for an online American Literature class. Readings were interesting, workload was pretty light. Limited interaction with him but he was prompt, fair, and helpful.

Very helpful teacher. Will do just about anything to assist a student. Took his Writing a Research Paper class, & we did much of the research, and writing right in class. If you fail this class, it's because you didn't put forth any effort. It still requires that you follow the rules and do the work well, but just do what's asked and you're good.

He was a pretty good teacher that required a lot of reading. However I didn't mind it because we thoroughly reviewed each reading in class. My only critique is that he really pushed the idea that there was no God. That didn't settle well with me

Dr. Broek is crystal clear in his expectations of students. I took this class on-line. It was both challenging and enjoyable. I gained confidence in my writing ability. Step by step, you are guided through the writing process. Discussion posts, research, outlining, rough draft and final paper are all covered in an organized manner. Excellent!

Awesome teacher! Very clear and has great open class discussions. Very bright and has a great perception on any topic. Papers he assigns are very easy and opinionated. You will have no problem going through this course. He makes it fun and the time flies. Best teacher!

Took his class online, and didn't like him. For his papers it is hard to receive a good grade. He takes your opinions and makes it seem like your opinions are wrong and hurtful. Wouldn't take him.

great teacher , learn alot and explains each assigment well,allows you to rewrite assigments before giving an absolute grade. Gives you about a week to finish an assigment and demands for you to check into the writing center as part of your grade.

Dr. Broek is one of the harder english professors you will have, but gain a lot from his assignments. His papers are complex, but not terrible if you do the work. He has individual meetings with everyone in the class and grades your paper in front of you so you realize your mistakes.Dr. Broek is excellent if you want to improve your writing skills.

He is alright. I feel that the papers are easy and he is a fair grader if you are a decent writer... Only sucky part is the class discussions... Not really the most interesting and sometimes kind of confusing. Makes you think at a higher level. I honestly dreaded this class... although i did get a good grade

The only thing you do for the whole semester is read Moby D(won't let me submit), about 6 chapters every week. The essays are kinda difficult and he's not the easiest grader, but he is helpful and will answer any questions you have.

Made the book a lot more interesting. Pretty funny sometimes. He's a good dude, definitely a hipster. We had a small class so actually got to know him.

I didn't mind the class, but for 121 this semester we read "Moby D," (it won't let me type the actual) which was pretty hard to follow and we did 5 to 6 chapters a week. It is really hard to get an A on a paper.

Seriously one of the best teachers. Definitely gives you chances to bring your grade up.

I had him for English 122, and the class was based upon three 5 page essays. If you're not a good essay writer, take this class because Broek will show you your flaws and let you fix them by the end of the semester. I surprisingly went from a C to an A by resubmitting all of my essays.

Great guy and fantastic English teacher. He gives great feedback on your essays and allows you to revise them for points back. His class is fun and informative, definitely my favorite class this semester!

This class was pretty easy. There were 2-3 papers and no tests. Really did not need to go to class. You just had to hand in your papers and submit them and the rough draft and outline online. Nice guy.

broek teaches the material pretty well, its not a class that you can fall asleep in. you have to read 4-6 chapters of moby d or more per week. you must read something shmoop, sparknotes,the actual novel just be prepared for questions and group quote hunting. the papers are the most important 6 pages max, its like the only think i work hard for

Broek is an excellent English Teacher! He assigns us weekly readings, if you're not willing to read, do not take this class. Great guy, inspirational teacher, make us summarize the chapters as we read them. 3 papers and a final, no quizzes or tests. Attendance is mandatory, not a tough grader, but do not piss him off! Be ready for class! He's fair.

Dr. Broek was awesome. His class is focused on a difficult novel, but as long as you do your journals & read the assigned pages you're set. He gives really good feedback on papers & at the end of the semester he allows you to fix 2 out of the 4 papers. His lectures aren't bad either. I'd definitely take another one of his classes for sure.

As long as you do the assigned readings you will be successful in this class. Dr. Broek is a great professor who knows what he is talking about and cares about his students. Would definitely take again.

Very accommodating. Goes over alert forms. Very nice. Gives extra time for final essay. Friendly and knowledgeable. I would take his class again and I would have him as a teacher again.

Broek was an amazing teacher. He really helped you as much as he could. He gives the best feedback on your papers! You have a chance to revise and edit your first two papers to get a better grade. He does a lot to help out his students and doesn't expect too much! 10/10

he's amazing professor. English is my 2nd language but he made it easy for me.. we read book Moby-D(..). which is very difficult book but he always explain everything... i strongly recommend to take him.

Awesome teacher ever. Very accommodating to students with disabilities. Take him for English 095 and English 121 and possibly other English classes. I wish that I took his English 121 class. Gives extra time on essays for students with disabilities. Would take him again.

I was apprehensive about taking American Literature because I thought it'd be impossible to get through, but he was there every step of the way. Whenever I had questions about a response I had typed, he was more than willing to read over it, & whenever I sent him an email he'd respond. He is passionate for what he does & cares about his students.

One of my favorite professors by far, gets very into his lectures and makes learning fun, you wont regret raking his english class ! As long as you do what your supposed to youll pass.

Professor Broek is an excellent English professor, you can really tell he knows what hes talking about. He requires you to read Moby D*ck. I honestly did not enjoy the novel, but he makes sure that everyone understands it. He is a very tough grader. He also cancelled class a lot and was often late. He likes to make everyone feel comfortable.

Mr. Broek is a great professor to have for English at Brookdale. The average day in class was discussing what we read and answering a couple questions. The essays in the class weren't that difficult as he always gave feedback and a chance to improve your grade. It's not a hard class to pass at all as long as you show up.

Hes such a good professor! I genuinely felt like he cared about each individual student. Hes super funny and will help you if you need it. He teaches in a way that makes you want to learn more.

Dr. Broek was by far my favorite English Professor. Super easy going and very caring. We read one book the whole time and wrote a couple essays. Homework was more reading and was overall a super enjoyable class.

Although, its my second week of 245, I can already tell that its going to be a great semester! Dr. Broek always answers emails right away and he always answers them politely and with the intent of being helpful! Said that if theres anything I needed, I should tell him! Theres no need for Alert forms either Great prof./ class!

Great prof! I for sure recommend him. This class was super chill and an easy A. No tests or quizzes. As long as you complete the short stories and poems you'll get a 100.

First college level class was a challenge at that time but he made it nearly painless by giving lots of feedback on papers and giving you a second chance to improve your grade. Despite just missing an A (89.8) if you put in the work earning a solid grade isn't that hard. Only downside was he cancelled class decently often.

Loved his class. We read Moby-Dick and talked about some interesting things in the book. The discussion post about the chapters we read were very helpful when writing the essays, so do them. We wrote three essays. He gave grate feedback and we got to fix our corrections for more points on the essay. Definitely take him!!!

Taking this professor again for ENGL 121! He's amazing! Definitely recommend him to others, favorite professor ever!

Dr. Broek is truly amazing! Currently taking him for ENGL245. It is very reading and writing intensive, however, do not be intimidated. He is here to help through every step and is willing to provide clarity for assignments. He gives great feedback! take him if you can

Very fun and relaxed, but definitely rigorous, especially the homework. A lot of the class is based on reading and discussion, both about published work and for peer reviews of writing. Dr. Broek exposes you to lots of interesting aspects of writing and made it very engaging and easy to explore creative writing in a fun and educational environment

This professor is the best. He cares about students for those in need. He is very nice, kind, and respectful teacher I ever had. When we make mistakes in our assignments, he wants us to double check to make sure that the sentences we put in the discussion forum and the essays from the book are making sense and understandable.

love broek so much, so kind and welcoming, there's a handful of papers but he makes it clear and always helps and gives feedback, homework isn't too bad mostly just a few questions, the lectures are pretty long but he lets people leave early a lot, overall 100% recommend would 100% take him again

I would recommend Dr. Broek 1000000 times! He's the best Professor I've ever had. Super kind, describes the assignments clearly, and gives feedback to improve your writing. I'm definitely a better writer after taking this class. TAKE HIM AS YOUR PROFESSOR, you won't regret.

I took his distance education course. It wasn't hard, but we legit worked on Moby Dick all semester, so it comes down to a preference. I did well, but that was a shock because I had no idea what I was reading. Again super nice and obv I passed, just be prepared to read Moby Dick.

Dr. Broek is the GOAT. He is so so sweet and funny and makes every lecture interesting and fun. He goes give quite a few essays, but they aren't anything crazy or difficult. I've had him a few times and I'll gladly take another class of his. I recommend him to everyone.

This professor was amazing, the work was very clear and easy if you pay attention. The canvas was also very well organized which helped. I would definitely recommend taking this class!

Dr. Broek is a great guy. American Lit I is a really beneficial class to both English and non-English majors. Weekly written lectures with 3-5 prompts to answer. There's a midterm and early final which are essentially the weekly prompts, but you write 3-4 pages each. The last 4 weeks are a research paper spaced out. The papers are 75% of your grade
