Wonderful professor! The class is difficult, but that is to be expected. The lectures are interesting and he explains things really well. He is very approachable and genuinely cares about the students.
Great guy, helped out a ton, was inspiring and excited about the subject
The class was hard because there is a lot of material. But the teacher is really good at explaining concepts and really cares about the individual student. I would recommend him to anyone.
HE's the best teacher at BYU
Loved the class. Teacher is awesome.
Dr. Brown is a wonderful professor. His tests are very straightforward - they come right off of the study objectives. The daily quizzes are kind of annoying, but during class he explains concepts thoroughly. He'll even explain it a couple of different ways (You'll see a powerpoint, then he'll draw you a picture, then he'll do a skit, etc.)
Brown does a grea job. Some of the other faculty who lectured did a sub par job. But Dr. Brown does a good job when it comes to explaining difficult concepts and making sure everystudent undestands what is going on. He is a huge benifit to BYU
This guy is the best! He explains difficult concepts in ways that we can easily understand, and sometimes uses non-traditional but fun methods. Very easy to talk to and knows his stuff!
Dr. Brown is possibly the only teacher I've ever met that can articulate the most complex thing you've ever heard as if you were in primary learning about sharing. You just can't expect more clarity. Tough subject. To succeed in the class, be prepared for every day as if you had a test on the chapter that day, making the study guide your focus.
Great teacher, fantastic ability to explain difficult concepts. The class is hard but fair. The TAs help a great deal.
Best teacher I have ever had at BYU. As other people mentioned, he is tremendous at explaining very difficult concepts in a clear way to understand. His teaching methods are unconventional but exciting and very helpful. His study objectives and class handouts are excellent resources for test preparation. Take a class from him if you can!!
Great class. If you have had him before you know that all you have to do is memorize the study objectives. Work hard and have fun. My favorite part was the sheep brain disection at the end of class.
Dr. Brown is the best teacher I've ever had, anywhere. The material is very difficult, but he makes it enjoyable and interesting. If you attend his lectures and do the "study objectives" you should get a good grade. He has a great way of explaining difficult concepts and is very personable. If you haven't had Dr. Brown, get him!!
Best teacher ever - get him at all costs.
This class was very interesting and it's obvious that Dr. Brown enjoys teaching it. There are 3 point quizzes at the beginning of every class period. The tests are tough, but very fair. Dr. Brown definitely isn't out to trick students with the questions. This was one of my favorite classes.
this class was great! dr. brown was a great teacher and i liked how he organized his class. he's very friendly and you can tell he cares about how his students are doing in his class. his tests weren't hard as long as you study. he was also very good at explaining things clearly. highly recommend him!
Dr. Brown is an amazing teacher. He is so passionate about his work. His class was very demanding but you learn so much!
Amazing professor, gives you exactly what you need to achieve in neuroscience. His tests are extremely fair and a full understanding of the subject matter is crucial. I would recommend him to EVERYBODY!
My favorite teacher at BYU so far. You have to do the objectives, but if you do them well, you will do well on his tests. He knows how to teach at a level where anyone can understand, yet you still learn a ton. I would recommend you take him over any other physiology teacher. In fact, I would take every class from him if I could.
Seriously this guy is my favorite professor so far at BYU. He is so passionate about what he teaches and he knows the material like the back of his hand. Tests are extremely fair and his excitement about the subject is contagious. I loved his class!
Dr. Brown is awesome! He makes learning physiology fun and interesting. He's great at explaining things so everyone can understand. Plus he is SO nice. Don't take physiology from anyone else. You have to do objectives and quizzes every class period, which are kind of hard, but they really help you learn and are worth putting in the time for.
I liked this class a lot! Dr. Brown really knows the material and helps in every way possible. Gives a lot of homework and quizzes every class hour:/ Can be very difficult and have to devote a large amount of time!!!!
This was such a fun class. Dr. Brown is by far the best teacher at BYU. He explains difficult concepts in a very effective way and is always willing to help his students. If you study the objectives and take good notes during class you'll do well.
I've never worked so hard to pass a class in my life and still like my professor. Dr. Brown's class is like a part-time job, but you seriously learn a lot. Don't take it if you can't put in the time. He's an awesome teacher, just ridiculously hard.
TAKE THIS CLASS FROM REECE, NOT BROWN. HE MAKES YOU MEMORIZE EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK. i took this the same semester as cell bio and got an A in cell bio and a B in physiology-- even though i spent 5X more time on Physiology. NOT WORTH IT WITH BROWN!
Dr. Brown was the best teacher I've had at BYU. He was challanging but the class was not impossible.
He is LITERALLY one of the best teachers ever! He loves Physiology A LOT!! He really wants you to understand, and he's great at answering questions. there is a down side, He is EXTREMELY hard!! If you are a great test taker and really really really good at memorizing then he is the one for you.
Dr. Brown is an amazing professor. He is committed to assisting his students learn in his class. He is easily one of the best professors that I have ever had at BYU. He does however want you to know ALL of the material that is covered in the class. He is VERY clear about what you need to know to succeed.
I'm not going to lie to you, this class is work, but if you are pursuing any human-body related degree, you'll LOVE this class. Dr. Brown is an incredible teacher, and shows his passion for the subject. His style of teaching is very effective, and I learned a TON in his class. The textbook is really fascinating so you'll like reading it :)
Everyone is saying that he is the best teacher to take physiology from but I have to disagree. He is a great guy, smart and passionate, but his tests are super hard. He wants you to know everything in the book and on his slides. Take this class from Reece. You only need to know what is in his packet and he is a really good teacher.
Amazing teacher! Knows what he is teaching and is able to explain very difficult concepts and make them very easy to understand. Is very helpful. Loved this class and thought Dr. Brown was an amazing teacher!
Dr. Brown is the best teacher that I have had at BYU. This class will take a lot of time and if you don't read before you come to class you will not do will in this course but I learned so much that it was well worth the time.
Really knows his stuff, there was not a question our class asked that he could not answer. You absolutely have to study and read before, and review often, but this was easily the most interesting class I have taken. It requires work but it's amazing how much you learn
I cannot say enough great things about this truly talented teacher. There is a great balance to the man. He knows his stuff and you will too after you take his class. He sets you up for success if you simply read what he tells you to and study his objectives. It wont be easy, but you will get an A if you study the assigned reading. No curve balls!
TAKE HIM! Prof. Brown is awesome. Everything about this class from lectures to tests are crystal clear and you don't waste any time trying to figure out you're expected to study, so you learn a ton. He is a model professor.
This professor takes intense subject material and transforms it into night time studying fun. He holds daily quizzes every morning, three questions, from the study objectives the night before. They are worth the same amount of points as test questions (basically). The tests really seem to test knowledge. It is a hard class, but Brown is the best.
Bro. Brown is a great teacher. He knows an answer to just about anything you throw at him; if he doesn't, he'll tell you. This class has no hmwrk to turn in, instead we fill out study guides for ourselves based on the reading. Every morning before class we have a 3 question multiple choice quiz. Don't get behind, you'll feel it quick! Fun but hard!
This guy dominates at lecturing. His teaching is clear and concise. Skimming the book will get you 3/3 on his quizs and tests are really really watered down from the intensity of material you go over. I found myself overpreparing for every test. Brown is really just a good guy, very caring and humble. His sense of humor can be taxing at times.
took brown for both 205 and 360. both hard classes but doable a's with hard work. brown is very clear on what you need to know and his tests are always fair. highly recommend.
Just like all the other ratings, Dr. Brown in the man. The best professor I have had at BYU. He teaches so well, doesn't try and trick you, you learn a TON in the class and get excited about the material. He has made being a neuroscience major so enjoyable for me and really is incredible. If his class fulfills any of your requirements TAKE HIM!
Awesome teacher and a great person. I've had him for Neuro 205, 360, and 480. All the classes were amazing because of his incredible teaching. Yeah, they are challenging, but that's just how neuroscience is. Everything is clearly and fairly laid out. The study objectives help guide you. Work hard to understand them and you can definitely succeed.
He usually saves 5 minutes at the end of each lecture to really bring it home. It's great to learn about the bio mechanisms, but he reminds us why we study this in the first place: to improve the lives of people with neurological and psychiatric disorders. He can also explain difficult concepts like none other. Super clear. Best prof I've ever had.
I had Brown for anatomy and he made all expectations and concepts clear. What he taught in his lectures was very consistent with what was on the tests. Face it, anatomy will never be a breeze or a pushover class so you will have to do a lot of studying and memorizing. This is the guy you want for the class
Possibly the best professor I've ever had. Dr. Brown really really cares about his students and tries to make his classes enjoyable and interesting - he's also the nicest teacher I've ever had. You can't help but love Dr. Brown - he's the best.
This class was extremely difficult.. Anticipate spending 3-4 hours a night studying, and if you're any kind of procrastinator you're in big trouble. That said, Dr. Brown is a superb teacher. He explains everything in a very understandable way and makes sure the class has a basic understanding prior to moving to the next point. HIghly recommend.
Superb professor. Passionate, knowledgeable, approachable, friendly, professional. This is a difficult course with a large time requirement, and he made his high expectations very clear and very attainable. He does not waste his words, he is very focused. He explains concepts clearly.
Incredible professor - absolutely incredible. Always kind, always trying to make sure that everyone's understood. He lives and breathes his profession and it's contagious.
One of the best teachers that I have had. Tests are more than fair, lectures are clear and straight forward and homework is easy to get 100%. If taking anatomy, take it from Brown, hands down. Anatomy is already a ton of work so it really helps to have a teacher who is straight forward and makes it possible to get good grades.
Hilarious professor! I love going to his lectures - he teaches really well. Only complaint: extremely difficult tests. But then again, anatomy is difficult in itself. :) Overall great professor, really cares and if you approach him, he will try to help you to the best of his ability
This guy is the best! He's seriously the greatest professor ever. His lectures are EXTREMELY clear and he knows practically everything. He's also super funny in a cheesy way. I have never used the textbook for this class, only the lecture guide. Everything you need to know is in it. The tests are very straightforward and the homework is easy.
Dr. Brown is the nicest man and one of the best teachers I've had during my time at BYU. Teachers VERY clearly and simply and is courteous towards students.
Dr. Brown is WONDERFUL! His lectures and tests are very straight-forward and he makes everything very interesting. This is NOT an easy class but it is by far my favorite class I've ever taken! I highly recommend it to anyone! Take it from Dr. Brown!
Dr. Brown is wonderful. He is just the nicest man who truly cares about every one of his students. I highly recommend him! The class really isn't that hard! Everything you need to know for the exams is in the lecture guide. It's very possible to get high A's on the lecture exams. **Also, this is one of the most amazing classes you will ever take.
Take Anatomy from him!! Holy cow, what a fabulous teacher. Such a nice man who knows his stuff. He is reverent about the human body and clearly explains difficult concepts. The lecture guide and lab manual has everything you'll need to know for the tests. Lots of memorization. Attend lecture, study, do the online practice questions. You'll love it!
Dr. Brown is amazing! Teaches very clearly, very humble and patient, and is engaging and interesting. Time consuming class but SO worth it! TAs for lecture and lab are so helpful, use them! Lecture reviews critical to high scores on tests. TAs really care about helping you learn. A very straightforward class! Everything outlined in study guides.
If you can apply yourself and memorize, this class isn't that difficult. Dr. Brown is patient, funny, and VERY clear as to what he puts on the tests. Use the TAs!!! They are your ticket to an A.
brown is an amazing teacher! anatomy is hard and there is alot of material to cover. he makes lecture very entertaining and teaches the material very well. has a very fair grading policy and is kinda goofy. go to TA reviews consistently and you will do very well. alot of the test questions come from practice test questions on the apr website
Teacher is great. He is really funny and knows how to keep you awake. Don't waste money on the $100 something plus textbook. Just buy it with the APR program for $5 extra. Go to class and memorize the slides in class textbook.
This guy is awesome. His lectures are fun and engaging. He teaches the material clearly. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Brown! The lecture portion of the class isn't all that bad. BUT, the lab portion of this class is tough. This was my 9th semester, and I have never had to dedicate myself so fully to a class before. Be prepared to work.
Fantastic teacher. He provides study objectives that tell you exactly what to know for the tests. He explains things very well. The class isn't hard, it just requires a lot of time and studying. The tests are not tricky at all. If you know the material you can get 100% no problem. it just requires a lot of time.
Anatomy is a hard class but Dr. Brown is HILARIOUS!! You will not regret taking this class from him. Study hard because the class is killer no matter who you take it from. Take it from Dr. Brown you will not regret it.
Everything About Professor Brown is Awesome. He is a phenomenal teacher with an incredible ability to simplify complex topics and convey them in a memorable way to listeners. He teaches with enthusiasm and with extreme competence.
He is a great man. Passionate about his subject but able to bridge the gap between his expertise and the students's lack of knowledge in an effective and respectful way. He is a pleasure to be around. MJS
I've never had a professor that inspired me to prepare so thoroughly for class, just by preparing so thoroughly himself. I never wanted to come to class empty-handed, because I respected him enough to not waste his time. Fantastic professor. Take his classes if you can. He teaches some of the hardest material, but he's a great guide through it all.
Dr. Brown was a very good lecturer. The class is very demanding but possible. This was my first college course and I took it in the spring. He was clear in presenting what we needed to know and the lecture manual made it easy to take notes. I never used the actual book however, it was just a REALLY expensive paper weight.
Dr. Brown is awesome. Definitely an incredible class. Everyone knows this is an extremely hard class but he makes it very obvious what we need to do and know. Also his lectures are very engaging and interesting. I never was bored and he made it very simple.
Loved Dr. Brown. He was a fun and interesting lecturer. However, they are long and get boring (especially if you a tired going into it). The material is TOUGH. One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. But the tests are not too hard if you know EVERYTHING. I think he's better than Wisco, personally.
Difficult class, but doable. Go to the review sessions for the literature discussions, it will save you a lot of time. Also, DO the study objectives on your own, and make sure you can answer them without notes. I would apply this advice to any class that I've taken with Dr. Brown: 220, 380, 480.
This class is pretty difficult, and there are not a lot of points. That being said it was doable if you just go over the study objectives. Dr. Brown is a great lecturer and mentor to students and this class is insanely well structured, and actually pretty entertaining. Just know that you are getting yourself into quite a bit of time-consuming work
anatomy will always be hard but he explains in the easiest way possible for the students. the tests are straight from the lecture manual, though his lectures are great to learn too.
difficult but interesting. Great guy teaching a challenging subject.
I took this class in the spring term and it was really fast paced. The lab was a lot harder than the lecture portion of the class. Dr. Brown's tests are very straight forward. If you study, you will do well. There are no trick questions. Be ready for weekly quizzes in lab starting week one if you decide to go springsummer route.
Great Class, really interesting. Everything you need to know is in his lecture powerpoints (I barely ever opened the book)
I've taken PDBIO 220, NEURO 360,480,481 from this guy. Time to say goodbye to the best professor this world has ever known. AMAZING lectures. All lectures finish right at the 50-min mark. His timing is amazing. Seems to know the answer to every question. Lots of material, but he makes sure you understand it. Tests cover a lot of material, but doable
Took a combined 10 credits from dr. brown. The guy will push you to your limit in learning, but give you every opportunity to get an A if you work hard. Best teacher I've ever had at explaining difficult concepts.
He's a great teacher. Classes are interesting. He teaches to the point and gives you everything that you will need to know. Don't buy the book, I never looked at it. The only thing you will need to study from is the lecture slide booklet. Pretty much if you put in the hours (lots of hours) you will get a good grade.
Really cool teacher that teaches a really tough subject. He made the class fun and the topics easier to understand but anatomy is a tough class.
This is definitely a hard class that requires a lot of time dedicated for studying, but I loved it! Brown is a great professor and I definitely recommend taking any class from him! The 2 midterms are based off the study objectives before the lectures - study those! Also, go to many TA reviews - they go over what you need to know. Don't buy the book
Dr. Brown is definitely the best professor I've had so far at BYU. His lectures and interesting and make sense. The tests are difficult, because this is a tough class, but totally doable. Take this class from him!!
So far this class has been my favorite at BYU. Anatomy isn't an easy subject, but Dr. Brown was very good at lecturing to the students to understand the material. The study objectives for the tests were amazing; if you knew those inside and out you could do really well on the exams. If you put in the work, your grade reflected it.
Anatomy with Dr. Brown was a great experience. His lectures were extremely clear and I really loved them. This class is hard if you don't know how to study for it. The key to acing it is doing the online practice problems online (right below the homework tab). If you can get 100% on those practice problems, you will get A's on the tests.
Dr. Brown is a great teacher and you can tell that he really loves the subject material that he is teaching. You are expected to learn a lot, but Dr. Brown teaches in a way that really helps you prepare for the work load. Highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Brown knows his stuff! He is so knowledgable about the course, and taught it very well. The tests were straight from the lecture manual, so if you knew that information (which is a lot) you would do well. He is funny too, and I was never bored in class. Take from him if you can!!
Dr. Brown is the best professor I've had at BYU. He truly cares about his students and puts them first in how he teaches the course. He doesn't waste your time with silly information or useless facts to show how smart he is, rather he is direct about the information you need to know to not only get the grade, but also learn amazing material.
Anatomy in general is a hard class, but Professor Brown goes through the slides and I felt like I learned A TON. It was definitely a hard class, but it was worth it. Take this class with other easy classes so you can dedicate all your time to this class.
He is a master at teaching with clarity. I knew allot about the human body already, but he made things make even more sense than what I already knew. He made me fall in love with anatomy. His stories are hilarious and apply to what you are learning. I never went to a single TA review, besides for the tests. He is very organized. Love this teacher!!
One of my favorite professors! I also took neuroanatomy from him. In both classes, he taught very challenging material in a clear, direct way. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed in your neuro classes. I don't know how I could have learned the mountain of information we tackled without Dr. Brown!
Dr. Brown is great. He is an awesome anatomy professor. Lectures were fairly entertaining and he kept you attentive throughout the lecture. It's a heavy class so you have to study but anatomy has always been known for being. A hard class
Dr. Brown is easily one of the best professors and mentors I have ever experienced. I was hesitant to take this class in the spring, but he made it very rewarding. The lecture packet has everything needed to pass, but going to class and taking notes will greatly augment that. If you study hard, the tests will go very well for you. Take Dr. Brown!
Dr. Brown was a great anatomy professor. I always learned something new in every lecture. He is also super approachable and hilarious.
Dr. Brown is amazing. He knows his stuff and makes it fun to learn. He gives a list of study objectives which makes learning the material manageable. I would definately take any class from Dr. Brown!
The key to the class is study and memorize but he is very clear as to how to study and tells you everything that can possibly be on the test. If you put in the time (2-3 hours a week) you'll do great
I love Dr Brown. He really is the greatest. He is very caring, and by his lectures, you can tell how much he knows, yet he teaches so clearly. The homework helps a lot, and doesn't take a long time, and you can do it as often as you want until you get 100%, so that's very nice.
I can't emphasize enough how much I love Dr. Brown! My favorite professor at BYU by far. I had him for three classes during undergrad and he really has a knack for making difficult material so clear and concise! He expects you to work hard, but he will literally sit with you for an hour outside of class if you need help. Take Dr. Brown's classes!
I loved Professor Brown! He did a great job explaining the difficult subject of anatomy. Anatomy is a hard class so get ready to work. But Professor Brown made it interesting. I do not think I have ever learned more from a class. Also go to the TA reviews each week they are super helpful.
Dr. Brown is phenomenal! This is my favorite class (along with lab) that I've taken at BYU. Dr. Brown explains things well and has us do things in class to help us remember concepts. I used the TA hours and open lab a LOT (6-8 hours per week). The class is great if you put enough work into it!
Dr. Brown currently has a 4.9 rating and to be completely honest that is a shame. He deserves nothing less than a 5. He gives CRYSTAL CLEAR study objectives and questions on tests come straight from those. He never tires of answering questions and is genuinely passionate about teaching. Put in the work and this class will be transformative.
You will quickly learn in neuro that Dr. Brown has his teaching dialed in and he makes every expectation crystal clear. If you just use common sense and do the work, you can always get an A, nothing else to it.
Well anatomy is anatomy, so be prepared to study and know the material. There are 2 midterms and a final, which means each exam is material HEAVYYY... The lab and lecture feel like different classes, but just remember that lab is 40% on your final grade and lecture is 60% so STUDY!! Online homework that correlates with the lecture. No projects!
I LOVED taking this class from Dr. Brown. He makes the lectures super entertaining, but extremely jampacked with information. He has a packet of lecture slides and I highly suggest getting them for notes. The class takes a lot of work and study, but it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. If you know the study objectives, the tests aren't too bad at all.
PDBIO220 is a super tough class, but Dr. Brown helps you understand the material. I was nervous taking this class, but his lectures are very straight-forward and you have access to the slides. If you know the slides and study objectives and you study a LOT, you can do well in this class! Hes a super awesome professor.
There were daily homework assignments, but if you study the lecture slides online it is such an easy class. His lectures are so good and his tests are simple and straightforward.
Professor Brown is awesome! His tests were easy as long as you went to the TA review sessions. I went each and every single week and did just fine on the midterms. I unfortunately had to drop the class due to some medical problems, but I plan on taking the class from him again if I can because he was so good.
I absolutely loved Dr. Brown and his class. Anatomy is obviously very difficult, but his lectures were interesting and he did his best to make confusing concepts simpler. He is hilarious and knows when to insert a funny story or comment to spice up the lecture. His tests are very straight forward. GO TO TA OFFICE HOURS AND Q&As!!!
Dr. Brown. What a teacher. He knows exactly what hes teaching and is so clear on what he wants you to know. I appreciated his passion and his willingness to help. Also the class is just a super cool class. Id recommend Dr. brown to anyone.
Brown is an AMAZING Anatomy professor. His lectures are interesting, & all lecture/lab assignments are very doable. And lab & lecture are basically two separate things except for the content overlap. Do the homework every week, go to as MANY TA Q&A sessions as you can, find a good group to study with, & you'll be all set. This class was my favorite
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Dr. Brown is incredibly organized-he gives crystal clear learning objectives. This was a very difficult class- you need to put time in everyday, but he makes it very doable. He's SO kind, funny, and passionate about teaching. He KNOWS his stuff & is so willing to help. Great life mentor as well. TAKE DR BROWN!
Anatomy is a hard class. Lecture is the easier part for most people. Brown's lectures are great. All of his test questions come from his lecture slides. Ignore the "study objectives", and don't buy the textbook. I didn't open it once. Most people cram for the lecture exams and do pretty well. Study with a group and you'll be good. Lab is so hard!!
Dr. Brown is seriously the best professor ever. His lectures are so organized and always end right on time. He makes the material interesting to learn about but plan on memorizing a ton for the tests. This class is mainly memorization especially with the labs but it is so fun! I have never learned so much beneficial material in a class!
Quizzes at the beginning of class so keep up with studying. Since I kept up, the exams were honestly less stressful. Neuroanatomy is going to be hard no matter what but he teaches hard material in a way that's simplified and easy to understand. Super straight forward in grading criteria. Just work on the study objectives. Flashcards definitely help
Awesome teacher. The class is really well organized, with all the content laid out. You need to study for quizzes and tests, but if you do your part, you'll do fine. I missed class a few times, so I didn't have all the slides labeled and colored (which you do while following along in lecture), which made it harder for me to study.
This class is quite difficult. As the capstone class for the neuro major, you should not expect an easy A. For every exam there are learning objectives that you must know backwards and forwards. The tests are hard, but if you know everything on the learning objectives you'll be fine. Go to the TAs for lit discussion questions.
Dr. Brown is way dope. He is a very clear teacher and doesnt try to trick you on the lecture tests. Dont go to TA QandAs, they are way overhyped, you just got to look at the slides to ace the tests. Lab is another story. No matter how much you study you will still get tricked. Go to as many free labs as you can and get right with the tas
Dr. Brown is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are amazingly inspiring and to be honest, this is probably the most spiritually enlightening class I have ever taken at BYU. Yes anatomy is hard and requires a lot of time memorizing. But I don't regret it at all and I would take it again from Dr. Brown.
Dr. Brown turns what should rightfully be an incredibly difficult class into something manageable. The course structure is super helpful to learning. Dr. Brown is probably the most knowledgeable professor I've ever had. He absolutely knows his stuff and is super patient with his students as they try to learn. Incredible all the way around!
Dr. Brown is an amazing teacher! This is probably one of the best classes I have take at BYU. His slides were clear and he is always willing to answer any questions you have. I spent a lot of time studying for the tests and did pretty well, but you definitely need to study every day. Even better if you have a study group.
Dr. Brown is definitely the professor to take Anatomy from. He is so caring. The lecture tests are easy as long as you know the slides really well. The lab is the harder part of the class. You need to go into lots of free labs and find a solid study group. The lab TA's are the coolest people ever. They are your main resources for success.
Professor Brown does a wonderful job of teaching the material in this class. He only teaches the lecture portion, there are TAs that teach the lab portion, but the TAs for anatomy are amazing, be sure to go to their open labs and lecture reviews. The content of the class isn't hard to understand, but there is a lot of memorization.
LITERALLY LOVE HIM SO MUCH! TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM! His lectures are so easy to understand and were the highlight of my morning to listen to (ore-recorded). The tests were just regurgitating what you memorized from the lectures. The lab class was pretty hard, but you just need to learn the terms well in lab and then study hard. Not too bad!!
PDBIO220 with Dr. Brown is a great class! The lecture part of the class is a cakewalk if you pay close attention to the study objectives. Lab is more difficult--be sure to master all the terms and review them weekly in free lab before the midterm and final. An A is very achievable if you stay ahead and stay healthy so you can attend lab in-person.
PDBIO 220 is an awesome class! Professor Brown was funny and had prerecorded lectures that were easy to understand. His lecture exams are also very clear if you studied well. Lab is done by TAs and it is so fun! Don't get me wrong, this class requires quite a bit of work but it was one of the best classes I've ever taken!
This class is tough, and almost entirely memorization, but if you put in a lot of effort into memorizing everything, going to the reviews, and practicing for hours, you'll do just fine. Dr Brown is VERY clear and does and exceptional job teaching. Such a great guy! TAs reviews will save you if you can download their powerpoints for review.
Amazing lecturer. Explains topics really well and keeps them interesting and funny. The class itself is a lot of memorization. It's just hard, so might as well have an awesome professor.
dr. brown is fantastic, fair in every way, and teaches with such sincerity. his love and appreciation for the material are contagious. powerpoints are clear and learning objectives prep you well for the exams if you take the time to fill them out. took this with neuro 380 and it was manageable. no need to read the textbook
This class is like drinking from a firehose no matter who you take it from. But professor Brown is an amazing lecturer, lecture attendance isnt mandatory and every question on the test comes straight from the power points. Lab attendance is mandatory and tests are more difficult, but if you study and go to free labs youll be fine!
He is awesome! Anatomy is a really hard class with lots of memorization, but he provides all of his slides in a booklet. The lecture test question are literally all taken from his slides, so it just comes down to memorizing the information on the slides. He is a great lecturer, knows his stuff and is a genuinely good and funny guy.
INCREDIBLE professor. This is a generally difficult class that will definitely require a lot of your time to do well, but it is so worth it. Dr. Brown has such respect and reverence for the human body--he loves what he teaches! Would 100% recommend taking anatomy from him.
Plain and simple this is just a heavy class. So much memorization. That being said Dr. Brown teaches it super well and has a contagious enthusiasm for the subject. I'd personally not recommend buying the textbooks. Everything you need to review is available online. I did very well in the class without ever referencing them.
brown is a very funny and smart professor. No quizzes, no homework just a lecture each session and studying for the exam. Id say go to a TA review after each class. Brown: Everything on the slides are fair game for exam. Novak: heard shes good, tells you what you dont need for the exam. Adams: requires textbook info and slides for exams
hilarious teacher. class was engaging and interesting. No need to buy the textbook, all you need to learn and master are the slides. EVERYTHING on the slides are fair game for the exams. No homework, no quizzes (there are practice quizzes on Learningsuite - do them b4 exam)and go to the lecture reviews Id say go after every class as a study method.
Brown is good and Novak is good. id say they're your best bet on an easier time. All exams are relatively the same except for Adams bcos he uses textbook info. Novak tells you what u don't need to the exam, for brown everything on the slides are fair game, adams good luck.
Dr. Brown makes my day, he is just so kind and really knows what he is teaching. Neuro 360 has been a fantastic experience with him. There is a textbook but I have never read it. Passing this class is highly doable if you learn from the TA slides and attend class where Dr. Brown goes into dept. A manageable class! I love this class and Dr. Brown.
Taken 3 classes from Dr. Brown CELL220, Neuro360, and Neuro480. He is THE best professor I've had at BYU. He expects a lot from his students but provides clear instruction on what he expects (He tests off of his Learning Objectives). Classes are challenging but not ridiculously hard. His character and teaching skills are incredible. Amazing man!
Ok anatomy is so hard no matter who you have, but this guy is probs the best option. He really just reads the slides in lecture, but adds some cool facts here and there and has funny stories. He is super passionate about what he teaches and really respects the human body. The class is awesome, just SO much memorization. Like so much.
Anatomy is a hard class no matter who you take it from. It requires lots of hours of studying. Dr. Brown is by far the best anatomy professor. His tests aren't hard if you study the slides thoroughly. He isn't trying to trick you but he expects you to know your stuff. 10/10 recommend taking anatomy from Dr. Brown.
I was always super engaged during Dr. Brown's lectures. He's just an overall amazing person and was always great to answer any kind of questions I had. Not to say that the class wasn't hard. Definitely requires a lot of memorization. It's also very important to study the lecture slides just as much as you do for anatomy lab material!
I LOVE Dr. Brown!! He is seriously the sweetest, and he understands that Neuroanatomy is a tough class. He explains things super well and will always make time to answer questions. Go to TA reviews! They will be your saving graces, and enjoy NEURO with Mike
Dr. Brown is a great professor that makes a two-hour anatomy lecture very enjoyable! The study guides for tests are very clear and it's easy to know ahead of time if you're prepared. Be ready to spend 2-4 hours outside of class each week memorizing terms, but if you do that you're almost guaranteed an A.
Anatomy lectures could be a very boring 1 hour of your life. Brown flips that and makes them a very worthwhile time. Very funny. He tries hard to help you remember things. You can tell this guy loves his job. If you're going to take anatomy, which is a hard class, take it from him. Tests are the only grade. Just review the lecture slides.
I bumped into Dr. Brown outside of lecture and he was so kind and asked me about my life and my goals. This is the kind of person he is. He cares about his students and cares about the material. CELL 220 is difficult, but he makes the class manageable. I loved his class and will miss going to lecture. He has been one of my favorite professors ever!
3 midterms + 1 final. loved this class, met some of the best people! Take it from him if you can, you won't regret it. it is difficult but its so interesting. spent a lot of time studying for lecture and final, luckily the exam schedules don't interfere with each other
Dr. Brown is one of the best professors at truly teaching the material so that we can understand it as students! He really cares about you as a student, and he structures his class to focus on actual learning and understanding (there's no unnecessary fluff in the class).
This is in no way an easy class but Prof Brown makes it better. His lectures are fun and engaging and he gives out his slides so you can take notes with them. The tests are pretty much the only thing you're graded on and they are hard but if you study the slides, every answer will be there. Don't skim the material before tests and prep in advance.
Great professor. Loves the material and loves teaching. He's helpful in office hours and very fair. The class is very simply organized and made to be very captivating.
Dr. Brown is by far one of the best lecturers at BYU! He really knows his anatomy and is very straightforward about his class. He cares about his students and has a wonderful way that he teaches the Gospel and science hand in hand.
Anatomy is definitely difficult (there's just SO MUCH INFO) but Professor Brown really knows his stuff and gives informative lectures. He's also very kind, caring, and funny. Go through the textbook before exams and do not procrastinate studying (start early, fr)! Expect LOTS of studying for both lecture and lab, but know it's possible to succeed!
CELL220 with Professor Brown is challenging but rewarding. His engaging lectures and caring nature make the dense material manageable. Unstuckstudy and the slides are essential for acing the exams.
Professor Brown is the best! He made lectures more engaging and fun! Anatomy is a tough class in general, but you are provided so many resources to succeed, and if you put in the work you can get the grade that you want!
Anatomy is inherently difficult but I stopped going to lecture after the first exam and was fine by studying the lecture slides and doing the practice quizzes. His exams were super fair. Final was cumulative. However, attend every lab and try to know everything about what you learn there. They will try and trick you on lab quizzes/exams.
You can tell Dr. Brown really just cares about the info that he is teaching. He is super kind and caring. He's not the most engaging lecturer I've ever had, but he knows his stuff WELL. Bi-weekly research papers you have to read and discuss. Tests are moderately hard, but if you review the slides and put in time you'll do great.
Anatomy is a lot but Dr. Brown did such a good job at making lectures interesting. He is funny and engaging. There is a textbook but I never looked at it. Just memorize everything on his lecture slides and you will do very well on the tests. For labs, use online 3d models. This class is a lot of work but they provide everything needed to succeed.
I loved Dr. Brown. He's one of the best lecturers out there. He doesn't let class get off track at all and tells lots of funny stories. Basically just memorize every piece of information on the slides and you'll be solid.
This class is tough no matter who you take it from, but Dr. Brown definitely does the best to make the class entertaining and really teach the material. If you memorize the slides for exams, attend TA reviews, and get a good study group you can get an A in the class. Just be ready to memorize!!
This is the third class I've taken from Dr. Brown for a reason! He helps you learn challenging, but really interesting content and is one of the most fair professors I've had. He really cares about all his students and wants you to succeed. 11/10 would reccomend!
Dr. Brown is SUCH an amazing lecturer! Despite the sheer volume of content in this class, he makes neuroanatomy seem not just understandable but also inspiring. I feel like I've grown as a student from the study tools I learned in this class as I prepared for weekly quizzes, and also as a neuroscientist as I've grown my love for the brain. So cool!
You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't take Dr. Brown! Best professor I've had in my over 3 years at BYU. He's incredibly articulate, intelligent, and kind, with clear expectations for his students.
Best professor I've had in my four semesters at BYU. His lectures are straight to the point and fun. We always said Dr. Brown would be the best grandpa because he cares about the students and tells funny stories related to content. Only pro I'd recommend for anatomy
