Bruner is a very insiteful teacher. He challenges students to think outside of the box. Often brings up new ideas about the Christian faith. Challenges the student to make his/her faith their own. Very good teacher! Sometimes difficult, but worth it!
an awesome teacher! very engaging, and NEVER boring! he challenges the way the students think, the way they approach subjects, and even the way they live their everyday lives. definitely the best teacher i've ever had!
My favorite teacher of all time. He is so sweet and kind. He inspires me.

take him. all i have to say
Very good teacher. 2 call papers, 2 tests (mid and final), group presentation. His lectures are like sermons, very interesting, challenging, and informative. He has a great personallity and I always look forward to going to his class.
Great teacher, a lot of fun and never boring. I've been challenged in this class but it's not necessarily hard. He talks about life all the time through literature. It's incredible.
without a doubt, the best teacher I have ever had. I wish I could take one of his classes every semester, not b/c i like english but because he is such an incredible professor.
he is a good teacher, inspiring, makes you think, but tough grader, quizzes are not easy, and if you mess up on a paper (only 2) then its tough to recover, one of those teachers that makes you think
the best teacher i have had since being here. he needs to teach more classes so i can take him again. teaches life lesson that you will keep with you. a very deep thinker. challenges you to think outside of the box and to know what you believe. take him!
He's a very good teacher. At first he may try to intimidate you, but he does an excellent job. if you can, definitely join his class.
He is a great teacher. He was always able to help out with what ever problems I had (schoolwise and personally) just a great guy. definitely an instrumental teacher in my career
Amazing teacher. The type of guy that makes well known his views but encourages you to establish what you believe. He really helped me evaluate my views on my faith.
Everybody thinks this guy is so great, but he seems like arrogant to me. He's the, 'hey, I'm a cool guy, but not really' guy. And he wants his students to like the material so much. No matter how slowly you read the poem, poetry isn't for everybody, man.
I disagree with the comment about Bruner being arrogant. He just doesn't take himself too seriously. I've had two classes with him, and I have to say, he makes coming to class worthwhile. Defintely one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Amazing, best prof I've ever had, and I don't even like English! He's hard as ever, but makes class worth going to and offers extra credit like no other. How many profs skateboard around the room? Brilliant and relates to the students well. So worth the all the work!
Bruner definitely has a contagious passion for literature and for life. He has great things to say about Christianity as well but subconsciously throws his liberal ideas into his teaching. However, better to have a teacher who makes you evaluate everything that is taught to you. Loves his student
Bruner is AMAZING!! Funny, brilliant, challenging but fair. I wish he taught some upper level classes here.
I had Burner for both Freshman Writing Seminar and Intro to Lit. He was more enjoyable in the closer Eng110 environment, but an awesome prof all around. His poetry section is the best, he is very open-minded and that makes him stand out from the rest of the professors. He's worth the work.
Best teaher i have ever had! Hands down!
He is one of the best teachers i have ever had. His classes are engaging and he actually make u want to read the material. He picks reading that will challenge you and keep u reading. You have to do the work but it is worth it.
The most amazing teacher I've ever had. He is genuinely interested in his students and wants them to learn things that are relevant to thier lives. A man of God. Challenges your thinking. I could go on and on.
great teacher. I hated english and now have learned to appreciate it. You read, and talk alot about what you've read. If you read what he says u pass the quiz's. He is a writer, so when you turn in 2 papers, dont expect much other then edits. Great guy, great teacher, and a nice dog, great stories
He is an Awesome teacher. He keeps things interesting and knows what he is talking about. You will also learn about life and he is always there for you if you need him.
He made the books we read come to life! Amazing gift of teaching is on the man. I looked forward to my classes because he expanded the way i thought. You must take his class!
Taught me more about life in a single semester than I learned in many years combined. AMAZING knowledge of faith & Literature. Moves fast & challenges the heck out of your mind, but you cant leave his class without inspiration. His main concern: keep your interest & increase your thinking. TAKE!
The best teacher I have ever had! Amazing!! He is a must take!
He is such an awesome prof. Worth taking, but if you don't like to do reading assignments take another class. You will not do well in the class without reading. His knowledge will blow your mind and will keep you thinking for days on end.
Bruner changed my mind about most things I've ever learned about life. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a Bruner class, whether it counts for your major or not.
He is my favorite Prof. so far, definitely fun going to this class! He helped me to discover my major-English!!! He showed me that I had the ability to succeed, more than a Prof.
Learned alot but felt bruner played favorites too much. Still material was fabulous! Unfortunatly you were advised not to think for yourself but to think like Bruner. A good teacher but he needs improvment
This guy is such an amazing teacher. I wish he taught more classes because he really made me think about life and about the influence that literature has on people. His papers were not so easy but as long as you read everything CAREFULLY you should do fine. And if you like theatre take him!
Bruner is the most amazing teacher I've had so far. Not only did I absolutely love his reading assignments, but an absolutely wonderful person to talk to you if you ever need. Please take advantage of what he has to offer!
he is an absolutely amazing teacher, one of the best i have ever had. But very challenging, he really pushes you to try to reach your full potential. Very ispirational, great role-model, and a wonderful person, he really wants you to do your best and get the most out of his classes. hard, but fun.
Do reading. Take notes (his lectures actually show up on the final). Dont miss class! Hes big time on the attendance. If you do those three things his class is the easiest class in the world.
Great professor. Offers extra credit for perfect attendence. Take notes. He may not seem like he's giving notes but he does. He also offers group "help" sessions before his papers. Definitely go to those. His class is easy to do well in.
whoever said he was easy doesn't know what their talking about. probably the most challenging class i've had at apu. if you pay attention (he's big on that) you'll do well. and you read. otherwise, you will suffer. best professor at apu. take him!!
really interesting articles and topics of discussion
AMAZING!
Awesome teacher, really interesting and fun!
AWSOME - NOT easy. You really learn from this class. WAYYY more that just literature. But it's not a class i can bs by and get an A. But it's worth it. Hour goes by REALLY quick (and wats more precious than THAT?!) You should take him to get ur moneys worth. Do iT!!
Amazing professor!! Fun class, not easy, but well worth it. Teaches you a lot. Bruner is amazing, he really makes you think and question the world you live in.
Bruner is amazing. He used to be a pastor, and you can tell, I come away from every class inspired, seriously. He makes you think. He is also very untraditional, which is very refreshing. Best teacher I have had in my life so far.
By far, the best teacher I have ever had. Not an easy class, he makes you work for your grade, but he is an amazing teacher. Incredibly funny, I was compelled to never miss a class. I recommend anyone take a class by him while at APU.
Good professor but very hard. He requires you to think deeply in literature. Lot of reading in the class. Grading is not very easy.
Bruner is amazing! This has been one of my favorite classes at APU so far. I love how he really makes you think deeply about what you're reading, and his passion for the subject and love for his students is very evident. This is a challenging class, but well worth it- I found it absolutely fascinating! Go Bruner!
I have never had a better teacher. He genuinely loves what he is teaching and who he's teaching to. Honestly I have never had a better teacher, he not only makes you a better reader (or writer in FRS) but he makes you a better person. Don't make the mistake of going to APU without having him as a teacher! I promise you'll love it!
By far, the greatest professor I've ever had and probably ever will have. He tells it like it is, treats you like an adult, and you really do learn from him. He's a little tougher, but will do anything he can to help you succeed. Well worth the work. You'd be lucky to have him.
amazing! best teacher yet... smartest man i know
If I could take all my english classes with Bruner, I would. He WILL make you a better writer, but also a better person. He's so down to earth, tells it like it is, and loves teaching. He cares about his students and is VERY easy to talk to. As mentioned in other reviews, don't come to APU without having him as a teacher!
greasy, not clear. you will work your hardest and if he does not like you, you will get a C, his expectations are impossible
The best prof i have had yet. He will rock your world. He doesn't stop at teaching the class material, but teaches about stuff that really matters. In his words, "instead of calling this class intro to lit, it should be called intro to life." take him, end of story.
Bruner is the most accomplished person I have ever met. He has done EVERYTHING! He loves his students and pushes them to do better. If you want to be transformed completely than take this class. You will work harder than most classes on campus and get a mediocre grade but take him! Your life will be changed forever for the better.
Fascinating prof/class. I had only heard bad things about CLFM (formerly foundations) but Bruner makes the class worth it.The grade is hard to earn: pop quizzes and seemingly impossible exams (2). But regardless of grade, this class will leave you more educated and more thoughtful. Used Norris' "Amazing Grace"--do the readings! I loved this class!
AMazing class. AMazing professor. really funny and smart with ingenious outlook and teaching style. quite a few pop quizzes and 3 midterms which are very difficult if you haven't done the reading. Overall, i came away with a lot of useful info.
He's an amazing teacher who will expand your knowledge on religion. My life has been changed because of this class.
Great class! i have learned so much about my faith and grown so much over this past semester, the class was stressful with the pop quizzes but it is not impossible, you must do the readings and understand them to do well. If you are open to learning and dont care about getting a 4.0 take him!
HARD pop quizzes! Do the reading! Don't sleep in class, take notes, have fun!
Awesome class!! It's probably the hardest class you will ever take, but worth every sleepless night! He is so interesting, I am going to take more of his classes! Make sure to take good notes on every reading and take really detailed in class notes! really, just have fun and enjoy the class while your in it! it's worth it!
Bruner is brilliant, one of the best professors at APU. He will challenge you, make you think, but everything he says ultimately makes sense and you'll come out with a better understanding and stronger belief in your faith. Great guy. My favorite class this semester, even with my C+. TAKE HIM! What you will learn is invaluable, regardless of grade.
Bruner changed my life. He is hard, and doesn't take bs, but if you do your reading, and take test well, you'll be fine. But even if you fail, this class is worth it. My advice to you, get to know him, he isn't as intimidating as he seems! His daughter is too cute too! He'll challenge you, but that's what college is for!
BEST professor at APU! Bruner is challenging; he requires you to think about popular subjects but from a completely diff. viewpoint. He tries to be intimidating but he really does love his students & has a contagious love for Christ. Take him if you have the chance.. it will be a blessing! Reading is vital but not difficult... take good notes!
An amazing class. You have to work hard and do the readings (sometimes twice or more), but they are never long and are incredibly insightful if you give them the chance and want to learn. Class is always interesting, but you have to be willing to show up. Bruner is always engaging and interesting and incredibly passionate without seeming excessive.
I learned so much from his class. It really challenged my beliefs and helped increase my faith (some of his statements are so off the wall that you HAVE to search the Scriptures and see if what he said is true). Do all the readings and you'll do fine. If you don't do the reading, you will have a quiz and you will fail.
Best class that I've taken at APU!! Bruner is truly the type of professor we should be paying for at APU. The class isn't easy, I needed to do the readings a couple of times, but they're short and the material is really good! I came to APU and was told that CLFM was an easy, no frills class, but Bruner's class has challenged me in amazing ways!!!
Basically, Bruner will leave no stone unturned in your mind's preconceptions about faith, grace, beauty, truth, and most of all, God. He may seem intimidating, but he is truly a sweet guy. He has come alongside me during a really hard time in my life, been honest, and real both in and outside the classroom. Take him, it will change your life.
Bruner is a stud. Hands down, one of the best teachers i've ever had. He will work you HARD, but your life WILL be changed. You will critical think about your faith, your beliefs, and who you are as a person. I know, he's tough, but like bruner says, "anything in life worth having is worth working for" TAKE HIM. This is what APU should have more of
This class WILL change your life. Brunedog challenges your thinking about your faith in great ways; this is the kind of professor you want to have for the money you pay. The books he has you read are quite amazing, i actually kept them to read later on in life. This class is hard, but you really want to take it with this professor.
Best CLFM professor! Covers topics in a challenging manner to get students to think. Class is never boring. Not much homework, but you do have to do the reading assignments carefully & thoroughly. Best way is to read, keep a notebook of the important points, & study for quizzes/midterm/final off of that notebook. 0060611391
Best teacher I have had. If there is teacher for CMIN 108 I recommend Bruner. Cares about the students so much and has a passion for teaching. Most inspirational and helpful class I've taken. Do it.
Bruner is the best professor I have ever taken. Everything he discusses is very practical and intelligent and he makes you excited for the class every day. Take him for CMIN, he will blow your mind!
I've learned so much in this class. This class has given me an itching to dive into scripture and learn more about who Jesus is and not be afraid to wrestle with the tough questions.
Really, this course is a mind-bender. How does Bruner come up with so many intense thoughts and ideas every single class? His mind will blow you away. Just take him. You'll see. And he's hilarious.
He is a great teacher, he knows what he's talking about, and has a lot of insight. If you can, take him, hes probably the best teacher Ive had here. A+
Interesting professor, but good. Quizzes are hard if you don't read the assigned work. But don't just read, deep read. It's important to read multiple times. He loves him some honors students. Also, make sure to do the extra credit at the end of the year; it will help your grade but is also a great experience. Great lecturer; take notes!
Bruner is a great prof and really tests your beleifs. Class realy revolves around the reading so be sure to go through the reading multiple times, and not just skimming. His quizzes are about the reading and can be pretty tough. Personall, I didn't like him, but I know many people who did. Its all a matter of opnion.
You would be missing out on one of the most insightful classes at APU if you do not take Bruner. He teaches from experience; mostly pain, but some good, to explain (and leave wide open) some of the most mind-bending issues we face as Christians. He communicates true wisdom, meaning, and hard truths, but does not leave you in a hopeless. Take him.
Awesome Prof! He will keep you interested every lecture. The class is not hard but you must keep up with the readings (which are interesting and not that much). He definitely has so much insight. Best Prof I've taken so far.
Bruner is the best professor I have taken so far. I HIGHLY recommend taking him! The class was extremely engaging and I always looked forward to it. It's really important to do the readings; I would recommend reading them at least twice and taking notes on them before class because the quizzes can be challenging. Take Bruner, he is a great guy!
This guy is awesome. I didn't agree with everything he or the books said, but I think that is okay and healthy. He will force you to wrestle with your faith and beliefs - which is necessary in our lives. The best advice I could give is READ YOUR BOOKS. Class is easy to pass, hard to get an A in - but he loves building relationships with students.
Hardest class I've taken at APU. Best Professor I've taken at APU. I wish I had tried harder honestly, but this class changed my life. He clarified so many questions about my life that I had. Amazing guy! Take him, and read the books. The readings aren't long, but they're deep. But its a good reading. Loved him. Professor Bruner is awesome
2 cheap books. Short readings but they're deep so I highly recommend taking notes--it'll help for the cumulative midterm & final. 5 quizzes, doesn't tell us when they are. No tests. It bugged me that he cussed all the time in a CLFM class but what he had to say in class was worthwhile. Didn't want to miss any classes because it changed my life!
Required for honors students. He is one of my favorite professors at APU. He really enjoys challenging and blowing his students minds--but if you let him, he will greatly expand your faith. Go in with an open mind because by the end you'll come to really appreciate his wisdom. The readings are HARD (study!), life changing--I'm still reading them!
Bruner is an extremely intelligent professor, and he knows it. This class will challenge most students preconceived notions they carry concerning their faith. Bruner genuinely cares about his students, so he challenges them. I found the quiz style to be a bit unreasonable. The lectures were great. Worth the work.
Hands down the best professor that I have ever taken in my entire life. This man has truly made me who I am today. He will stretch you and spit in your face and you will love it. It's a shame that there are even other professors teaching this course. Read the material and study in groups. 5 random quizzes, 2 tests, 1 group presentation. Boom.
Professor Bruner changed my life. This class is worth reciving a C or fails for, however. Yes, he will make you do your readigs and know them. I had to study hard to do well, and I had to put effort in. He's not sneaky or confusing! Things in life that are worth something require effort! TAKE THE CLASS . It was fun :)
If you want an easy "A", do not take this class. BUT...if you are looking to be challenged and stretched in your growth as a Christian and as a thoughtful person in general, TAKE THIS CLASS! Bruner leaves you thinking about important issues every single class, and it's pretty much inevitable that you will be changed by the end of the semester.
Have immense respect for this man. I came to APU for major, not religious aspect. Bruner exposed a whole different side of what the Christian faith is about. Especially if raised in church, challenges everything you accepted. WORTH TAKING. I would recommend an atheist to take Bruner. You walk out with deeper understanding of self, God, world - WOW!
Absolute favorite professor. His class is not for the lighthearted; if you want an easy A then good luck with this class (and good luck with the rest of college; you're going to need it). Bruner's class is extremely enlightening and will leave you with questions that will rock your world. I'd take this class again any day.
Take Bruner. He's so down-to-earth, so easily understood, and so willing to help you. Not to mention that he BLOWS your MIND in almost every class by exposing stereotypes and making you think. He doesn't try to force you to believe anything, he just tries to open your mind. Do whatever it takes (petition, crash, etc.) to take this professor.
Bruner will take everything you think you know and turn it on its head. He poses unique perspectives, crazy questions, and is very knowledgable. He's passionate and will meet with students personally to know their story. This class blew my mind every day, and I would take it again in a second. Caution: it will change you; get ready.
While he does make some good points that are extremely insightful, he comes off as arrogant. What he knows is the way and the only way - if you differ at all you are wrong. If you take the class, please understand why you believe what you believe, but be ready for him to criticize you for it because he knows best.
Professor Bruner's class has been my favorite of freshman year. His teachings are grounded and never fail to bring profound new aspects of faith to light. If you put even a bit of thought into the class, your perspective of life will be torn down and built up again in a new way. Definitely recommend.
I wish I could have him every semester. Everything he says blows my mind. Also, for those of you who says he thinks his way is the only way, he does that so that you will challenge him, therefore challenge yourself. He is absolutely amazing. So caring and willing to meet you out of class. DO THE READINGS. They are good readings anyway. SO worth it
that he doesn't want you to simply adopt his. COME TO CLASS WITH AN OPEN MIND. He is a very insightful person in general, and he enjoys when students meet with him during office hours to ask questions or talk about life. I sincerely wish I could take this class every semester. TAKE it and take lots of notes. You won't regret it.
This class was amazing. I took it my first semester of my Freshmen year, and I feel like I have already grown and learned so much through this class. He makes you think with every class, and he makes you challenge yourself. It is somewhat of a hard class because there are very little points, but taking this class is SOOOOO worth it.
Great class! Go into it with an open mind, and you will love it. Do the reading, and the quizzes will be fine. Find someone with a study guide (there are plenty of people!) and you will do fantastic on the midterm. And if the final is anything like the midterm (which he says it is and I trust him), then it'll be easy too. TAKE THE CLASS.
Bruner comes off very arrogant which makes it hard for me to say "this is class changed my life" Yes, the course material was good but could be just as rewarding if you bought the book and read it on your own. Nothing profound about his lectures, except trying to convince you his views are better than yours.
Contrary to popular belief, getting a good grade from Bruner is doable. In fact, CLFM with him is the best grade I have ever received during my educational career. Not because it was easy though, but because I worked hard and wanted to learn. He is passionate about what, and who he teaches. There is a reason that everyone says to take his class.
Bruner is great. But you have to be ready to talk out your frustration. He will say things that you think are contradictory both to himself, and to the Bible. But if you really analyze the Word, you will see he is pretty spot on. And if he seems scary in class, just meet him in his office and he isn't scary at all anymore! Must take his class!
There's a reason so many people want to take his class. It's not an easy A or B, but read a lot and take good notes from the beginning, and you won't get a grade that destroys your GPA. Learning from him is well worth the difficulty of the course that exceeds classes of other professors.
Bruner is a tough professor although my GPA will take a hard hit what I learned is something I will take away. He is tough because he wants what is best for his children because one day you may be their doctor, teacher, or lawyer. The effort you put in this class is like the effort you'll put in your major's class.
He is one of the most interesting professors Ive ever had! You will grow in this class in terms of religion and perspective bec he does open your eyes about things u prob wouldnt think about! I really enjoyed coming to class. BUT BEWARE if u want an easy class this isnt the one for u. He is a hard prof even thou it wont seem like it. will hurt GPA
I took this class because I wanted a challenge, but honestly Bruner is manipulative and not challenging. He does present some interesting viewpoints but does not take correction well and also does not provide constructive criticism. He comes across as arrogant and authoritative, but often gets his facts wrong. Bummer class.
Bruner is tough because he cares. Easily the best prof on campus. Will teach you more about life and faith in one semester than you're likely to learn anywhere else. And do yourself a favor: come in with an open mind. He's trying to mess with your head for a reason. Don't let his brilliance intimidate you, either. Sweetest guy.
Love his lectures and the way he really makes you think differently about your perspective on life and the christian faith. Although I respect him greatly as a person, I most likely am going to fail his class because when it comes to the test I never know what he is asking for and then it becomes hard to obtain the information I read.
Take this class. It might be a litter harder than others, but if you enjoy deep thinking, you will end the semester enlightened, inspired, and equipped. I absolutely loved this class and loved Bruner. He's my favorite professor thus far. Be warned, if you don't want to work, don't take this. Reading ranges from about 3-10 pages a week.
If you are given the HONOR to take Bruner, DO IT. You get what you work for, and putting your time and effort into this class will strictly benefit you. He is real, straightforward and sweet. CLFM was definitely meant to rock your world, and Bruner does a great job at accomplishing that.
Mr. Bruner's CLFM class changed my life. He is an amazing man and so willing to meet with students to help when needed. Don't let him talk you out of the class on the first day! Stick with it and do the readings (which are great anyways) and you'll really enjoy it I promise! I would take this class a hundred times over again if I could.
on the first day of class he tells you that majority of you will fail , and that's mostly true. a good majority of the class failed . if you don't read you wont pass the class hes very arrogant and doesn't take a difference of opinion well
good teacher, he's not easy, but its mostly worth it. However, it would be nice if he jumped off his high horse from time to time because he is so arrogant and thinks he knows everything. Good material.
Loved Bruner. He's intense (can sometimes come across as arrogant, but that's just his schtick) and funny as hell. He's also brilliant, which will intimidate some students and make them dislike him. He's actually a very kind man... met him out of class many times. Best teacher at APU, hands down. This one is easy: take him!
I really enjoyed Bruner's lectures and his views and opinions on things but his pop quizzes were terrible because that's pretty much where your grade comes from next to the one group project that he assigns your partners. If you get screwed on your partners, you're screwed for the class. He's enjoyable to listen to in chapel and that's it.
Dr. Bruner's class changed my life and my faith. I would 1010 recommend anyone who is up for a challengingstimulating class to take him. If you're looking for an easy A in your CLFM class Bruner is not your guy. Bruner can come off as arrogant but once you get to know him a little better you can see he genuinely cares for his students.
This class was incredible and I would take this class every single semester. The lectures are amazing, the tests are hard and the group project is graded hard. There is a fair amount of reading, but it's interesting and not an overwhelming amount. If you want an easy A, don't take Bruner, but if you want to be challenged in an amazing way, do.
Bruner is tough. His class was very interesting, he likes to hear what students have to say but (I think) he also rants during some lectures. He changed his syllabus from his previous one there is no church project but still a big group project. If you don't read you are screwed for the "Quams" and he really does make a 100 class feel like a 400.
Dr. Bruner doesn't make it easy for you, but he knows his stuff and make class very interesting. He likes to challenge your ideas and break down your assumptions, which can come across in the wrong way if you're not prepared for it. So get prepared. Bruner will change your mind about a lot of things.
If you don't do the reading, you won't pass this class. If you do mediocre reading, you will probably get a C. If you take time to interact with the reading, you will be challenged to re-evaluate where your faith is. Always walked out of this lecture with questions and growing desire to converse with God. Have much respect for professor Bruner.
MIND-BLOWING! If you're the relaxed type looking to breeze by, look past here. This is for the ones who want to revolutionize and broaden their thinking---to the point where they doubt themselves, really. His quizzes are hard because they're specific to the readings (DO THEM OR FAIL), but his lectures will lure you into this fantasy of amazement.
Bruner is great. He is brilliant and knows what he's talking about. This will be the most interesting course you take. If you are a theology major: TAKE HIS CLASS.
Wow where do I even begin? Great professor! At the beginning of the semester I regretted taking his class and now I really enjoy going to class to hear him lecture. Tough class, full of great teaching. Looking into taking another class with him again in the near future!
Absolutely amazing teacher! By far favorite professor ever. He says his class is difficult, but if you do the reading and study hard you should get an A. It is relatively "hard" for a GE but his incredible lectures are worth it. Two "quams," one presentation, one paper, & a final exam. Definitely recommend him. Favorite class and worth the work
Even though there was a lot of reading, I really enjoyed this class. Bruner is a great professor and really does care about his students. I took the class in a larger class so I didn't get the benefit of class discussions. Even so, I'm really glad that I took CLFM with Bruner and would recommend him to anyone.
SUCH AN AMAZING PROFESSOR! Take him. Even though his tests were hard, I learned so much from this class. His lectures are very interesting. Just remember to always read on time while taking notes and take notes on his lectures. Final was a killer though.
Best teacher I've ever had. Makes you study for a decent grade.
This person is serious! If you're going to school to actually prepare for the real world, he will prepare you for sure. Funny and intelligent, knows how to engage the class and very open. Take him!
Nice professor and is passionate about Practical Theology. Very opinionated, not always informative about class material. Greatly misrepresents other ideas and sometimes did not answer my questions. Overall, intelligent and passionate but not the clearest communicator of what is to be expected.
Bruner is an incredible professor and person in general. He will take time out of his schedule to make certain you are okay and doing well in his class. YOU NEED TO DO THE READING! His quizzes are difficult, but if you study you should be ok. He is by far my favorite professor I have ever had. Will definitely take him again.
He is an amazing teacher. His lectures contain so much knowlegdge and information about the real world. You learn so much from his class. Theres about 30 mins of reading every day, tests are about 10 questions and they're pretty specific. The final was difficult. Attendance is mandatory. He really wants to get to know his students. Take advantage!
So Bruner is a really phenomenal person and he has a good amount of wisdom when it comes to ministry. However, he promises to have frequent discussions yet he lectures primarily and those lectures are tangential and rarely relate directly to course material. It was normal for us to cover only 5 of the 45 pages we were suppose to cover. Frustrating.
Professor Bruner is the BEST professor I took this semester. There is required readings for every week, and you need to take notes during the lecture if you want to do well on his tests (Quams). The tests are the only thing graded, besides a big group project, which you have to go out and visit a church of not your denomination at least three times
You need to live and breathe his lectures and reading. They are essential to passing with a decent grade. When he taught he mentioned that he was just doing the motion of teaching and he could do his lecture in his sleep.
Amazing professor!! I did not receive the best grade in this course because I slacked off on the reading. But he is an amazing speaker and I learned SO MUCH. So many of the things he taught I will take with me forever.
Bruner genuinely cares for his students and he'll push you because he also cares enough about the truth to not let you off easy. Some people won't like that, so this is definitely not the professor for them. But if you care about the truth, you care about your life, and you want some wisdom imparted to your soul, no one does it better than Bruner.
I loved Professor Bruner! On the first day, he encourages you to drop his class and take another professor because he expects a lot out of you! Even though I have some learning difficulties, he's more than willing to make time for you! The only homework is reading and there is one big group project. Although his class is tough, it changed my life!
Professor Bruner's Christian Ministries class is not easy, and he comes across as intimidating on Day 1. If you just want an A, don't take Bruner. However, I have never been more challenged to think deeply about what I believe than when I've been in his classroom, and for me, the challenge was absolutely worth it.
Professor Bruner's lectures were the sole reason why I did not mind going to school. He takes a unique approach to looking at Christianity&what it means to be Christian. The readings he assigns are very interesting if you are interested in theology&he elaborates by going in depth about the message of the readings. Take him if you're willing to work
Prof. Bruner is the best! He gives incredible lectures that challenge you in new ways and loves to have great discussions. He tries to come across as intimidating because the work is hard, but it is totally worth it! Not an easy A , but for sure attainable if you try hard. He is funny and will joke around, but he also cares about each student!
I loved Bruner's lectures so much, honestly life changing. BUT his class was so hard. I was worried about it wayyyy too much for a 100 level bible class. The whole class is graded off of like 6 things and his "quams" (quiz +exams) are impossible. I don't know if the good lectures were worth all the homework and stress
Its a challenging class because he really makes you dig deeper every lesson but its so worth it. Loved his deep lectures that would leave me thinking even after class was over.
Bruner really opened my mind and made me look at things in a different way and really dig deeper to find the answer. he gives out quams so be prepared for those and do all the readings
Bruner's lectures are very informative, but he is also extremely opinionated. He assigns many readings, and the class discussions barely cover them. Be ready to be reading and analyzing almost everything yourself. However, the class itself is usually enjoyable and makes you think.
He is an amazing professor and teaches how you can implement biblical readings into your life. Helps you see a different perspective as a Christian and grades merely on 3 quams, church presentation, and final exam. Don't skip any readings or else you can fall behind. He's a very open minded professor and helps you grow in faith! Highly recommend!
Dr. Bruner is the most intelligent and wise professor I have ever had. The class I took was three hours but it felt like 30 minutes. He discusses every issue with great depth and with a great understanding of theology. If I could give any advice to students at APU it would be to take at least one class with Dr. Bruner.
Taking CLFM with Dr. Bruner was bitter-sweet. His lectures cause you to make you think about the beliefs you grew up with. There is so much to gain from the readings and the lectures, allowing you to get a firm grasp on your identity and beliefs as a Christian, but his 3 quams, 1 semester long group project, and final exam make it hard to get an A
Professor Bruner is very wise and intelligent when it comes to explaining theology and certain aspects of the bible that would be confusing to someone. He is always ready to answer any questions and is extremely caring of his students. The only rough part is not knowing your grade until the very end. Do your readings and you'll make it though.
He comes off as a hard teacher in the beginning and he may pick a person randomly from the seating chart to ask about the readings a few times but the class itself is worth it. There's only like 30 minutes of reading per week, a group project that's super easy, and 3 Quams (Quiz+Exams) that have 5 questions each.
Professor Bruners class was such an amazing experience. It was harder than most classes but was one of my favorites because it challenged me to grow in my faith and be a better student. Theres not too many grades so you have to do all the readings and be knowledgeable about them but I would definitely recommend taking him.
