This is a class that should be realatively easy but it's not. He never tells you how he will be gradeing.
his tests dont make any sence to what he is talking about. he makes it seem like it is an interesting class to get you in it. makes it seem like it will be easy but its not
yeah he doesnt let you know what he wants out of your speech until after when he tells you everything wrong about it... ive seen him give really bad grades on really good speeches
When I took his class he gave a sheet that had a list of components that you would be graded on for each assignment. It was like instructions, it was very clear what he wanted to see. He was very professional, like a real college professor, not a high school class where you expect to be spoon fed.
i did very good work in his class and i got a D, he is a bad teacher and doesnt know what the hell he is looking for in a speech just grades you on you and if he likes you
no offense to this teacher but i wouldnt recommend him to anyone, he seems to get a attitude and can be very rude. He doesnt tell you what he is looking for in speeches, and you get marked down for it. save your self the trouble and take another teacher
Took him for the summer session. Was totally dreading this class. He does seem to grade based on whether he likes the topic you're presenting or not, but otherwise he made class fun and interesting. The hand outs he gives you tells you exactly what he is looking for on the speeches. Recommend the summer session, gets it over with fast.
an awful class, probably the worst one i've taken at cypress. quick to judge people, erratic grading scale, favoritism an all around terrible teacher, unskilled and unclear
Coach Mike is a very nice guy and I look forward to working more with him this year.
Coach Mike is really nice and easy to work with. He gives great advice on speeches, but never is overly rought on you.
His judgment is easily influenced by people whom he trusts. Sometimes, he unintentionally makes a decision without thinking that he just knows the story from one perspective. Otherwise, he is a nice and friendly professor.
This class is full of information that is pretty much common sense but uses big-people vocabulary. The teacher is nice, but the work is a bit silly amd time consuming There is one group project that uses way too many people and way too much time of the class, and I thought it was a lazy effort of trying to "teach" the class the needed information.
hopeless teacher, bad human
NEVER, BUT NEVER take speech with this instructor!!. He makes such an easy course hard to get a good grade. He said he just have given A's just few times in his life. Poor lectures and very demanding in tests. Once again never take brydges!
This man is ridiculous! You ask him for help and he tells you to change this and that, then you do,then after your speech when you get your grade he tells you that you should have done what you previously did!I can't tell you how many A's i could have gotten if i didnt listen to him.Very unclear, confusing, and makes this class up to be great, its not.
i really dont know why should anyone who living in this world try to take his class to torture themself. that is hard to make a class both "do a bunch of works" and "learning nothing" in the same time, but surprisingly he did. good job!
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT take this man's class, he's a communications teacher who doesn't know how to communicate. Bases your grade on who you are and what topic you pick, terrible grading scale, gives out examples that are not an A so you are working towards a low grade didn't show up for the final and all around terrible teacher.DON'T DO IT!
This guy is just terrible. He's totally off the ball most of the time, doesn't lecture well, goes over the same things constantly like how to write a argument. Lets his opinion enter his view of the class, is late constantly and is extremely unorganized. For example, he missed our final exam because he thought it was at 1pm, when it was at 10am
If you can write and speak eloquently while inspiring an audience, then you might receive an A. He grades largely from his impression of your personality; and this he misinterprets. He singles out students he is not fond of and ridicules them in front of the whole class. He does have a nice side but greatly should work on improvement of his faults.
Human Communications class. I took Mr Byrdges this past semester and he was alright. For a lower level division class he took it way to seriously and graded hard. Public speaking is not an esay thing for most people and he assumed we would all be experts by the end. He uses a lot of termininolgy and quizzes you on material you didn't even talk abou
I took Speech 100 with this professor and I barely learned anything at all. I was miserable for lack of a word. He would never explain anything when giving out assignments and when it came to exams he would not lecture nearly enough and use material from the book we had not reviewed. If you want to pass a speech class, don't with him.
He is a communication teacher that cannot communicate!!! Would send last minute emails and expect you to know whats going on. TAke weeks to reply emails. EXTREMELY unorganize. Constantly confused with different classes. Very heavy work load. Grade very hard on speeches. No one got an A in my class. I did not learn much in this class.
Talks a lot about things but not enough in detail. Exams are hard if you don't read--book is necessary. Speeches are tough; only one in my class who got an A on any of them. Thinks that everyone knows what he's saying. Flamboyant. Will talk about psychological/emotional concepts. E-mail responses are brief and unhelpful. Overall difficult.
i enjoyed his class. granted, it was a little unorganized, but still a pretty good teacher. i found it pretty easy. study for tests and the papers were pretty simple. i recommend him
VERY EASY CLASS is just the teacher is unorganized. He a koo dude. He easy to talk to and he willing to help you out. Just read your book and do your work you be in good standing in his class.
Mr. Brydges has to be one of the worst teachers I have ever taken. Don't get me wrong he has his ups and his downs, but he really thinks he is teaching at Harvard and not CC. Not organized! Trust me I try very hard in all my classes and the best I got was a B, and yes he picks favorites!
The topic itself is pretty easy however Mr. Brydge's communication skills were horrible. I paid attention in class and for the most part didn't have to use the book. Brydge's would email us the day of class expect us to be prepared and his instructions for assignments were for the most part unclear. In addition he was unorganized.
DO NOT take this class!!!! Brydges makes a simple speech class complicated. He is so judgemental and is never satisfied with your work even though u worked your a$$ off, he is rude, condescending and will give you a low grade if he doesn't like your topic. He makes his students feel as if they are inadequate.
He's not as clear as he thinks he is. He jumps from point A to Z, then back to G, and often repeats. He goes over material for 10 min that could have been explained in 1 min. He gives out too many handouts and they become useless because he reads them to you which waste time. He will argue with you if you try to debate him about your work.
Expect this to be the hardest speech class u have ever heard of Uses 11 point grade scale extremely hard to get an A Watches ur speech and gives u a grade about 45 seconds after u finish, seems a bit hasty Very confusing teacher often misses office hrs w/ no notice Worst experience ever w/ a teacher avoid if possible unless GPA doesn?t matter to u
As ironic as it is this communication teacher communcates very poorly He is also very unhelpful/ unprofessional and is rarely on time its no wonder he teaches at a community college he cleary is incapable of anything else
He was horrible! do NOT take his class. He was late to class and expected you to read and learn the material own your own. His tests were useless and more than half the class complained about his teaching style. In addition, he makes you give 4 or 5 speeches which you learn nothing about. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
I don't know why Mr. Brydges received a lot of bad comments. Yes, he might be a little unclear, unorganized, and always late for class. But he is very helpful. If you show interest in the class and do what he's asking you to do, he will surely give an A. He is very generous actually.
not a good teacher, he is so rude!!! and he deffenitly doesnt teach. do not take his class. I got his class because all the other ones were taken ... im hoping i pass.
I almost didn't take this class because of these comments, but I am glad I did. Brydges is very friendly & willing to work with u to help u get a good grade. He seems like he genuinely cares about his students. Yeah he makes u work, but this college, not high school. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Don't let these comments deter u.
Teacher does not really teach, we have to teach ourselves from the book. Tests are hard, feel like didn't learn anything from him. He is good with office time I can say. I would suggest taking him if you like teaching yourself by reading the textbook. Textbook is not needed during class, we did not use it once in class. Grades speech kind of harsh.

Class is boring and wants you to teach yourself. Grades super harsh.
I don't really look forward to this guy's class. Not a good teacher at all. I'm basically teaching myself throughout the semester. Seems a little bit weird, and not the unique type of weird. He makes this class harder than it should be. I think he makes others inferior to him because he's good at public speaking. Don't do it!
Professor Brydges is not very helpful. He is never really clear about what he wants and his comments on the speeches are never helpful. All the test are on the book which was not once used during the class. Its very important to read the material if you wanna pass the test and the final.
Brydges is a great teacher. Everyone says he's hard but welcome to college everyone. Hes a really nice guy that will help you anytime in his office hours. The class is pretty hard but youll get the grade you rightfully deserve. As long as youre on top of things and do your speeches youll have no problem getting an A. Brydges is awesome!!
Interpersonal Communications - Hybrid. The class itself isnt THAT hard. Mr. Brydges just isnt very organized or very clear on the assignments. There was a few projects and one group presentation. He makes you feel comfortable and will try to help you if you ask in class, but dont count on receiving any emails back
is not very clear when giving instructions.
Took night class. Almost didnt take this class bc of all the comments. IGNORE THEM. Brydges is HILARIOUS, organized, and interested in your success. Constructive critism and tons of energy and passion for speech. Five quizes, midterm, final. Four speeches.
Such a great teacher. You will learn a lot in this class. He is helpful and makes himself available. he likes face to face conversation so emailing can be sketchy. he is sometimes unclear, but overall a great teacher! if you try, you'll pass.
Mr.Brydges is very unclear with his assignments and never once used the book. it was difficult to take notes and understand him. He is not very effective. I advise taking another teacher.
Mr. Brydges' intercultural communications class was the worst I've ever taken. His lectures include amateur YouTube videos. I have never heard someone use the phrase "in terms of" so many times. He likes to email homework assignments 2 days before they are due. He announced the midterm as an exam, didn't prepare us. Most confusing multi choice exam
Did not like his teaching style. He was not clear about due dates and instructions. There was too much group work that he wasnt regulating or being specific about what is to be done. While recording your speeches he gives comments and asks questions that you have answered, but he couldnt hear because he isnt really listening. Didn't learn anything!
Awesome Instructor! Take his class. You won't regret it.
omg. the worst teacher ever. he is so unorganized and makes you turn in all your assignments at the end of the semester and then wait to get your grades until the last day he can turn them in. he is unclear and rude when asking for help. Just find someone else. HE'S AWFUL. he also says "in terms of" way too much. i counted 48 times in two hours.
If nothing else, this instructor is always willing to listen and help you with understanding. His downfall is that he tries to get too many activities used to teach you with. I did not take a hybrid class but did wind up having to do several things online like tests and discussions. He is very engaging and funny but there's a lot of work to do.
Unorganized and not that funny although he kinda thinks he is. Due dates are unclear. Test Qs sometimes not in the book. Big project where you teach a chapter to the class with a group and it's sort of fun but be careful because you still get tested on his idea of the chapter rather than what you learned in the presentation. Didn't like the class
He's sloppy and organised and your grade will take the fall for it.
Brydges has such a personality. It made the class really interesting. I took this class over the summer only for the transfer credits, but it ended up being pretty interesting. The book is available in the library so you don't have to buy it. He isn't an easy grader, but put some effort into the class and you'll pass.
Mr Brydges is an excellent teacher! I took his Comm 100 Teacher Prep class. There is never really a dull moment with this guy. Not only is he funny but you can tell he really loves what he does. Highly recommend you take his class! His tests are pretty easy too!
funny, needs to be more organized, you need to read book to pass the tests, teacher prep douse has additional after class assignment you have to do,besides speech and group presentation. be ready to work
I appreciate him as a person, but I'm not too fond of him as a professor. Unclear with deadlines, lags with grading, and excessive tests. There's a group project that's worth a lot, and a film paper is your final. Being a communications major myself, the content of the class is definitely interesting and he's passionate about it.
Tests are extremely hard. Must read word for word in the textbook. Tough grader for speeches.
First off: out of the 32 times we attended his class, there were about 4 lectures. All teaching is done by the book. Second: The group project is a chore and a half Third: He's unorganized and gave us two tests that had questions on material that wasn't covered in the book/class. Any learning I've done this semester has been coincidental.
If you ask for help you'll receive it but even if you do exactly what he says, you still won't get a good grade. The tests are really hard. Spent hours reading and studying just to get a C on the tests. The lectures are hard to follow. Good guy though.
I got an A in his class but I have to say he's a bad professor. I won't exaggerate by saying he's 'the worse' or something, but he's not helpful. He routinely screws up and acts its your fault. He's the classic 'I'm the teacher, you should be grateful for me' type of professor. Avoid him if you can.
He gets off topic in his lectures so the only reason why I showed up was to sign in to get my participation points. You don't need to buy the textbook because he gives you all powerpoint through blackboard. I didn't buy the textbook and still passed with a B.
Very nice person, but extremely disorganized. Is very unclear about deadlines and expectations. Stuck with it and got a decent grade so not bad in the end.
Decent guy but terrible Professor. Unorganzied and unclear. Went over multiple assignments at once. Confusing to no end. Doesn't explain properly. Does not lecture from the book, expects you to read. Very outdated materials, took this class 2016 yet he handed out material from 1966 and 1978. I will never take his classes or recommend him to anyone.
Yes this teacher is a little organized but his lectures and information are very helpful. He is very clear on his expectations and you can tell he loves what he does.
Really nice guy but very unorganized. Unclear expectations and due dates. You can tell he loves the subject but can't teach it.
Professor Michael Brydges prides himself on the fact that he's "the only hybrid" communication course. However, his lectures are messy, and his teaching method is ridiculously unorganized. You have class once a week, and he's late on posting all the assignments yet you're expected to have them completed anyway. Overall terrible.
Michael Brydges is a very caring teacher who is sometimes disorganized but he knows it. He understands situations and is accommodating as long as you talk to him. I was able to turn in papers late because he understood that sometimes he posted things later than he said he would. If I needed anymore communications classes I would take his classes
Beyond the worst professor that I have taken in my college career. Unorganized, unclear rubric, and difficult grading. He prides himself on being a comm professor for years, but shows lack of direction. He sets up his students for failure. This is a 100 level class and he treated his exams like it was an upper level course
He gave out multiple homeworks whenever he feels like it. On top of the essays and the group projects, the Hybrid class has multiple discussion every week. Also, he does not reveal how you are doing in class and you will fight in the blind until the end of the semester. Very unorganized, really easily offended, and not a really good communicator.
i really loved this teacher, i had to fight for my A very hard and still barely got one. However, his lectures are amazing and I am planning on taking him again for 105. Some people didn't take the class very seriously and he would strongly communicate with them his frustrations which is where I think some people are rubbed the wrong way by him.
One of the worst instructors Ive ever had. Unorganized, unable to effectively manage his time, and no respect for his students time. Backed up assignments with little to no (or unrelated) feedback. Grades are always late with unclear criteria. Pretty simple minded for someone who teaches Cultural Diversity. Avoid at all cost.
worst teacher ever avoid
Hes a nice person but hes a tough grader and is sometimes unclear on what he expects. Making matters worse, he will leave you clueless about your grade until the end of the semester which youll then be left the last few weeks fighting for a passing grade.
This professor never explains his content thoroughly and always has the students second guessing on what they have to complete. He never gives full score and gets mad during class for very irrational reasons. It was a hard course not because of content but because of the way he teaches.
Not a good teacher because he is biased towards females, grades your assignments really late, gives you pointless assignments and speeches, comes to class late, picks on random students and doesn't make his assignments clear. Overall he doesn't teacher you, he just shows up and shows you slides, and makes speeches are complicated for no reason.
Did not like this class, the professor is a very tough grader and a lot of the time he isn't very clear when it comes to giving instructions on assignments and doesn't give you much guidance on them either. He also likes to take his sweet time when it comes to grading your assignments, so you won't know what grade you got on your paper for a month.
Honestly, The course is a lot of work. I took the hybrid course. There are 4 essays, and one group project of teaching the class a chapter in the textbook. The tests are pretty easy. No final, just one of the essays. His requirements are vague, however if you ask and need help, he does answer you. Grades late, but overall everything is doable.
Is not clear about deadlines or assignment instructions, not great at getting back to questions , rude
Late to class almost all the time Inconsistent and late feedback making it difficult to fix errors in sentence outlines before speeches Unorganized and unnecessarily drawn out lectures. He needs to be more concise with his teaching because he'll talk about the same idea for 20 minutes at times. We get it bro, move onto the next topic already!!
worst professor ever, he's late to class all the time, he is biased towards females, he doesn't seem like a professor that cares for you as a student, he made me feel so uncomfortable in class. If you got to take this class DO NOT pick another professor that actually wants to see you succeed.
I love going to his class. I have done his two class comm 100 and 105. Both of them were amazing. His lecture are both heavy. Just go with flow of he ask you to do work just do it and ask him if it's correct or not he will tell you. His lecture are full of fun activities. You will enjoy yourself in his class. Be prepared for speeches btw. 👍
Not recommended.
Always late to class. Confusing assignments.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS The professor was often late, the modules were disorganized, and discussion boards had unclear deadlines only mentioned due dates after the class told him. Grading took weeks, and homework instructions stayed confusing even after asking. Lectures dragged without adding anything new.
Gave us TWO FINALS a final exam and a final paper. always late. confusing assignments.
Nearly always late and always dismisses 10 min later than class end time. So many useless papers with confusing directions. Canvas is so disorganized and confusing. Assigns homework with 1 day notice and expects you to get it done. Takes forever to grade. Almost the end of the semester and hasn't grades stuff from 2 months ago.
While the content behind the class wasn't hard to understand, the professor made things more confusing. His way of describing the content and explaining assignments and due dates often left many feeling confused. It was also difficult to gauge my understanding of the material, as he was behind on grading for the entire second half of the semester.
