Was very boring!!!
He is an awesome teacher and explained things well. He provides many examples and I enjoyed his class alot.
great teacher
Very easy class. No homework, easy tests. The class can be boring.
He was a really good teacher but sometimes we got off on weird subjects that had nothing to do with oceanography and we would talk about them for days. Other than that he was great!!
Very boring class. This professor has a kind of monotone voice, and he rambles a lot about unrelated topics. It was okay, but I would not take a class from him again.
I had fun in the class.
The class is alright but his curve SUCKS big time!!! I should have got a B+ but instead I got a C-. ):
Cool guy and funny sometimes but teaches a hard class. His study guides don't prepare you properly for the tests and makes questions from class lectures and not the text which makes it hard to study if you don't take unreasonably descriptive notes. Class is pretty boring, bring your ipod!!
You think the class is going to be really easy but he's tests KILL you. But, he lets you do lots of extra credit and stuff, take advantage of it. At first you'll think you don't need to, but you do.
This class is pretty easy. I never went to class except for quizzes. the study guides help but you still have to understand the concept. i got a B+
Taught a beginning class like it was a doctorate level class.
Amazing teacher. By no means is his class cake walk, but he provides you with everything you need to do well. His study guides are incredible and if you actually use them, you will do well on the test. He is interesting, fun to listen to & very helpful if you need it. I loved this class & would HIGHLY recommend him. Not an easy A, but worth it.
If you are looking for an easy or fun science class. THIS IS NOT YOUR CLASS!! This teacher should be teaching professionals, NOT a beginners class.
THIS PROFESSOR IS AWFUL !! THIS IS A 1010 LEVEL BEING TAUGHT AT A NEAR DOCTRATE LEVEL--this professor is rediculous in his inability to level with beginner students to say the least. Science is my strongest subject, but after a 2 week audit I have to say that this professor may have extraordinary knowlage of geology but FAILS to level with students
I really liked this teacher. I took the class during the summer and it was great. In order to do well you actually have to LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES, and READ PARTS OF THE BOOK! I hate it when you acutally have to do work in order to pass the class. College really sucks! Please note the sarcasm.
Great teacher. Expects a whole lot but helps out as much as possible. Funny, lectures are easy and enjoyable to sit through. Study like crazy! and do the extra credit! even though you don't think you have to...do it!!
This teacher was horrible. I did not like the class at all. I don't know why he can teach at this school.
This teacher is a very nice guy but he teaches his students like they are already geo experts. The class is not that hard. You don't have to read much but you have to take lots of lecture notes and the tests are rather difficult. He offers a lot of extra credit though to make up for it.
Dr. Bunds is downright passionate about his subject. He teaches some pretty detailed stuff for an introductory level, but explains himself well and clearly. His tests take some pretty intense study, but it's not unreasonable. And his class is usually enjoyable, though you may need some Skittles to keep you awake. I would recommend him.
People complain about him being unclear but its cuz theyre lazy and didnt read the book. I thought it was clear when I read the book, and confusing when I didnt. Do extra credit he gives and don't be lazy at first like I was. Study guides are pretty thorough, but dont this class without book like I did for the first few weeks. overall good teacher
To me he wasn't very interesting. His tests are long and can be confusing. You've got to really study and do the book work. When I didn't do the book work I did horrible on the tests. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
I took him for oceanography, thinking it would be interesting. It might have been, had I been able to understand what the heck he was talking about. He can't explain things in a simple way...it's impossible for him. If you are already good with geology, take him. if not, I wouldn't reccomend it.
he was pretty informative for what was on the tests , works with you as much as posible as long as you let him know what is happening he tries to do what he can to work with everyone he like what he is teaching and thats a plus w/ me.i recomend him to everyone.
I learned a lot, which is good. I also had to work really, really hard to get a good grade. His exams and final is way hard.
This teacher explains the concepts well and teaches at a good pace. His tests may be a little tough if you're not good at science, if you are his tests aren't difficult. He says on the syllabus that he expects you to put some effort into the class and if you do you will do good. His moderate difficulty is not a drawback. Highly recommended.
Probably one of the better science teachers I've had. Very specific with lectures and what will be on the tests. However, his tests can be a little confusing/hard. Just study and you should be fine. Writes everything down on the board; therefore it's very easy to take notes. Overall, a good teacher, and very ncie guy.
Wasn't a very good teacher at all. Tests were REALLY hard.
He was a down to earth guy, which makes sense considering he teaches about the earth. Easy to talk to and VERY knowlegable on his subject. Gives plenty of extra credit to make up for any difficulties. It was my second time taking the course so it was a breeze, but you could sweep it on your first try with him.
A good teacher. Pay special attention to his study guides. That is where he draws his test q's from. Says 10's of ... a lot. Simi inconsistent with teaching. No homework required ever. But, you have to do so that you will do well on test.
He is a good teacher. His enthusiasm makes the class exciting. He puts alot of effort into his lectures to make them interesting. As long as you pay close attention to his notes and study guide you can do well on his tests. does require studying and extra credit is an option. great guy!
Awsome teacher, was very entertaining and I thought taught the course material well. Loves what he does, has hilarious facial expressions that kept my attention. (as wierd as that sounds). You must do the homework and read the book. I would highly recommend him.
When I first began taking this class, I thought he was very nice and enthusiastic about the subject. I love going to class every day for the lectures. You really have to apply yourself for the tests, though. Once you learn more about him and his teaching style, the class becomes easier.
If you like the subject you will LOVE his class. Do the homework and study guide for each test and get an automatic 70% if you get lower on the test. Has a quiz once a week. He is boring but knows his stuff. He explains in detail so it sinks in. Good teacher but I wouldent take him again. Helps if asked. For being boring, he's makes it up in looks.
He really is a great teacher with a fun sence of humor. He keeps things interesting and visual. There is a lot of text book use if you want "insurance" on your tests. If not, only randomly given quizes. He wants to help his students succeed and understand the material. He grades on a curve. I like class just because I can stare at him. He's Cute!
Ladies, if you have to take science you might as well take it from Dr. Bunds. He wears truley excellent jeans and is very funny, this makes class fun and interesting. The class is difficult, but he is very helpful and wants his students to succeed. You might as well enjoy the scenery while you're being torchured in science.
really nice guy, but his test suck, quizzes r easy but the wording on the test just doesnt make sense sometimes. he has an insurance type thing but its freakin 80 questions long which takes up alot of time. make sure u take good notes, he does have a curve which helps and read ur chapters.
Dr. Bunds is interesting if you like Geology. I personally hate it, so I didn't understand a thing he was saying. He's an okay guy, but he always keeps you in a few minutes after class ends. 10 quizzes, 3 or 4 tests, and no mandatory homework assignments. My book has been wrapped up all semester so I never had to use it.
Or should we say Dr. Hot Bunds
I went to every class and studied vigorously, even with study groups for his tests, and i still got a bad grade in the class. I don't recommend him unless you have a deep love and interest in Geology.
He is a good teacher and a cool dude. Keeps class interesting. Recommended!
Great teacher, great class. His lectures suppliment the reading really well, and he explains things very clearly. Quizzes aren't bad, tests aren't either if you study. Offers extra credit for going on field trips, and test "insurance." I didn't have much interest in Geology when I enrolled, but came out with a new appreciation for it.
He's a real cool guy and lectures well. You need to be in class for the tests and lectures or you'll fall behind real quick. He makes a good study guide before tests to make this class a fairly easy B+ or better.
breath of fresh air to have a 1010 tchr who knows how to balance initiating interest with the realistic understanding that not everyone cares. bunds teaches with enthusiasm through grear lectures, text reading, worksheets, ex crdt and multimedia. make sure to study and take good notes *especially on things he makes sound like an aside.
Loved the class! Highly recommended! Explains material great, and is really fun. I recommend not missing class, a majority of the test is from lectures. He makes it fun, and class is fairly easy if you make a little effort.
Professor Bunds was a great teacher. I wasn't too interested in this class before I took it, but he made it fun. He made really helpful study guides for the 3 exams, and there wasn't any homework all semester. A lot of people got A's from him.
He is funny and gives you study guides for tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps a lot to go to every class. He keeps things interesting, he seems passionate about what he teaches and really helps you understand the material. Not an easy A, but definitely passable. Offers insurance in case you bomb a test.
I was totally freaked out going into this class, as structure has a reputation for being killer. The subject can be challenging, but he was really helpful and willing to answer repeated questions. Field work awesome. Take good notes- a couple things on tests were only discussed once in class and not in the book. Other than that very straighforward.
He's a pretty good professor. He is really clear and very easy to understand. He doesn't require any book work, though he gives you test insurance if you do do the suggested questions out of the book. He answers any questions and has a pretty good sense of humor.
Mike Bunds is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about and able to answer students questions clearly. His tests were easy as long as you studied the notes you took in class. He makes learning geology fun and exciting. I have never had as much as I did in his class.
!WARNING! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This class is a joke for a general. He is the biggest jerk too. He never responds to any emails either. And he doesn't even count any of the extra credit you hand in. 4 Tests and they are freaking hard. I barely passed thanks to insurance.
Good professor- Go to class and you'll get most of the notes you'll need for the tests. He offers insurance for a C- on the test incase you don't do well. I found it helpful to print off the study guides as well to study for tests. He explains everything really well and tries to make the material easy to understand. Take his class! :)
Super teacher...
Good class for an easy science credit. Tests are fairly hard but he gives a good study guide. Be ready to read the text book. Not bad as a meteorology teacher. Take his Geology class.
This guy is boring. He repeats himself a hundred times, has no structure. He is all over the place. He tests you on drawings, you have to label stuff. This class was awful. I DO NOT reccomend him!!!!!!
He's really easy to understand, but I found his tests pretty tough.
I liked him as a professor. He gave the best notes i've had in a science class. He was clear when teaching somewhat difficult concepts. I liked him and i would definitely recommend him.
He is a nice guy buy very difficult. He gives quizzes every week on top of about 4 midterms and plus a comprehensive final. His questions are tricky (he says not his intentions) The study guides given are usually pretty long but only half the questions are on the test, other half is in lecture notes. Insurance is a nice but a lot of work!
Mike Bunds i would not recommend. Make sure you know your math well, he has decided to put alot of math questions on his tests. that have nothing to do with the text book at all!He is spiteful. You would be lucky to get a C out of his class. Its alot of work. He spends 45 minutes of class time, lecturing on how to do math questions take astronomy!
I really enjoyed his class, he is a nice guy and really funny. He makes things easy to understand if you listen you will pass all his quizzes and tests. His homework is a sinch. kind of off the subject at times, but overall I really liked the class.
He is a pretty cool professor but the class is just a hard subject. Especially so for an entry level class.
He lectured at a good speed. I actually had time to take notes. Lectures were clear. Tests were a bit challenging. (Use the study guides! They told exactly what was on the tests.) I do wish he hadn't been gone so much for research during the semester, esp. right before finals. Not good timing. I appreciated the opportunity to do extra credit.
Gave insurance that guarantees a pass on mid-terms, but it's a lot of work. He's good at answering questions & seemed easy to get an appointment with. Gives extra credit, but tests were detailed and difficult. Pleasant lecturer and funny, wanted to connect with the class. I'd recommend him.
I took oceanography from him. Bunds is incredibly nice, but his class is very hard. Not mandatory to do homework. His lectures are a little on the boring side but good pace. Kinda dull. Wasn't motivated for class. But he does have a good sense of humor. funny guy.
His lectures were pretty good, but then I would go home and study for hours and hours for the tests, and failed all of them, because his tests and lectures are NOTHING alike!!! You can even read the book all you want and still do really bad on the tests.
worst teacaher ever!!!!!his voice is soo annoying it makes you fall asleep. He made HATE geo!!! dont ever take him
Great teacher, Tests are hard but do the insurance. Super nice guy, but sometimes impatient.
Really hard class, but he is an excellent teacher. Very helpful if you ask for the extra help. Test are really difficult, you have to study the notes. He is awesome, he raced motorcycles and it helps that he's a good looking guy too.
worst teacher!!! ugh not only were his lectures boring but nothing he said was ever on the test!! Zzzzzzzzzzz...
Michael is a pretty good professor, but I promised to myself do not take geology again. It was hard especially for me, because English is not my first language, but Michael is always willing to help. I could "travel" during his lectures. Oh Michael, I miss you a lot!
I actually understood what he was teaching but meteorology is pretty hard so you gotta study to remember things. His tests were hard but I managed to get a B+ in the class. His lectures can be boring but bearable. Insurance is actually a lot of work and I'm sure if I did it, I would've understood the material more fully and would've gotten an A.
I can see how the class would be difficult for students not interested in geology. He's a very nice guy. I did well because I am interested in geology and plan on it being my major. If you read the book (which is optional) you will do just fine. The key to this class is to understand the large scale principles.
I had Professor Bunds over the summer and overall he was fine. There was one assignment a week and three tests, though all the assignments combined are the worth of one test. So, if you want to do well in the class you have to do well on the tests. He also didn't grade a single assignment until the second to last week of the semester.
Okay if you have to take this class for your major and you are not going into geology then do not take him. This class has three tests two being a midterm and one being the actual test. So far every thursday he has had a quiz be prepared to listen as much as you can in this class. I would recommend another teacher.
I took this class online and I could never get a hold of my him. I sent him probably four emails with no response, even after our student teacher brought it to his attention. We were not allowed to see what we got wrong on tests so we could not correct our mistakes. Tests were not over the units that were specified or what we were learning.
Homework assignments very doable and easy. Hard part is doing all the reading, and the tests are 75 percent of your grade, 60 questions, 60 minutes, and not going back to previously answered questions. The tests are very hard compared to the homework. Review questions in hmwk not in any tests. Prof did a good job responding to my emails though.
I loved Bunds. He actually knew my name and made me feel like he was there to help. Though the subject matter is a little difficult, Bunds did his best to help his students and further understanding.
Provided a lot of good slides and content to learn the material. Was very responsive to students who had questions.
This class still gives me nightmares. The math in this class was far more difficult than in my actual math class. The tests are tough, but he actually prepares you for them. The homework is doable, and actually makes a difference. The quizzes can be taken twice, which saved my bacon. Be prepared to work your butt off!
This class wasn't that bad, but he just didn't respond to emails throughout the semester and it was really frustrating. The tests cover way more material than what we went over in lecture so it really caught off guard.
DO NOT take METO 1010 from him. The class is extremely difficult and he is also a horrible teacher. He is bad at communication, and I felt like he did not even care about me throughout the semester.
He really loves geology which makes the lectures enjoyable. Very helpful and cares about the students. The tests can be a little difficult. There are usually some questions about things he never fully covered. However, the tests are usually curved quite a bit. Fieldtrips for extra credit.
If you like meteorology then this is the teacher to take, he is very passionate about it and you can tell it's not just a class to him. However I took very good notes and worked hard to understand and found many questions in tests and HW that had nothing to do with the lessons. Hard class.
This was for the 1/2 credit earth science seminar class...Dr. Bunds is SO HARD to get ahold of! Its nearly impossible to get the man to respond to emails. Very cluttered, canceled lots of seminars, disorganized.
This professor is really passionate about his subject and he knows A LOT. But he expects people to have the same knowledge as he does. If you're not a science nerd, you will fail. There is only one quiz per week which makes the tests basically determine most of the grade. And he doesn't prepare you well for it AT ALL.
Dr. Bunds might as well show up to work with a Starbucks and say "play on your phones" to his classes because he simply does not care about his job. Virtually impossible to contact him outside of class & even when you do he often misinterprets questions. One of the worst professors I've had in 3 years at UVU. Student beware of any course with him!
I took his online class and I took very detailed notes and studied HOURS for all the tests and I always did horrible. He never gives you enough time one the tests to actually finish it and do a good job. There were always things on the quizzes that he never mentioned in the slides or in his lectures that he posted. 0/10.
This class was significantly harder than it needed to be. He was quick to answer questions at the beginning of the semester and then dropped off the face of the earth for the middle and end. 1 lab/homework assignment and 1 quiz a week, but he never graded more than 4 of my labs (same with other students). 3 big tests 1 cumulative final. Not a fan.
I like the guy, I really do. He is nice enough and funny. He is a bad teacher. Very old school to the point where I get the vibe that hes actively trying to "trick" his students. Lectures are really disorganized and hard to follow. Hes a "if you fail its your fault" type which isn't technically wrong? But who wants a professor like that?
Worst class I have ever taken. Worst professor of any I've ever had. Homework and labs have almost nothing to do with the slides provided. He posted a module was due one week and then didn't publish the module for over 2 weeks after the due date. No response from him at all ever no matter how anyone contacted him the entire semester. Don't do it
Bunds will not allow you to see him for office hours if you take the class online because he feels it gives you an unfair advantage over other students in the class. You can only access him through the weekly discussion posts and even then good luck getting an answer that will help you. One lab and one quiz a week 3 midterms one final.
Where do I even start. Professor Bunds might be the worst professor I've ever taken a class from. He is very strict with his deadlines, does not give his students the benefit of the doubt, regardless of your work ethic, gives you next to no time to take his tests (50 questions, 50 min), no notes are allowed on the tests (which are proctored). -1/10
This is supposed to be an entry level course yet it felt like this was the final boss to get your masters in meteorology. He comes across as the professor that's proud when students do poorly in his class. No feedback is given on tests, quizzes, labs so you're left in the dark to wonder what went wrong. If I could give him a negative grade I would
You can tell Professor Bunds loves what he does, but he is a horrible teacher. Exams are based on lectures, but sometimes he doesn't cover everything on the exam. It wouldn't be a problem if he used a textbook, but he doesn't. To top it off, he doesn't post his LONG study guides until a few days before the exam. Don't take this guy.
This UVU course is the worst in 4 semesters (61 credits). The professor's tough approach feels punitive to GE Credit students. Assignments are nearly impossible, tests aren't curved or make-up friendly. Only 1 extra credit given (SRI), was due before it was announced. The professor is harsh, grades poorly, and may struggle in passing his own course
Prof Bunds is very knowledgeable, and I can appreciate that. But the biggest issue is that he teaches a 1010 course like an upper level. He relied on his TA for grading and they proved very harsh and would subtract points from labs etc for small things. Difficult course, wouldn't take again.
The course load of this class felt synonymous with a 4000 level class while trying to beat the final stage of an impossible video game. The professor did not answer any questions well at all, and the TA would simply mark items off on labs that were either not made clear by the lecture or based on her feelings that day. NEVER take this professor!
Prof. Bunds always made class interesting and always wanted to get everyone involved. Every week there is a quiz so I recommend to go to his class so you can write down some notes to pass the quizzes. He doesn't take attendance but if you want to learn and have fun he's the right teacher to take GEO 1010.
He is very obviously passionate about Geology, but he does not know how to teach. It is a HUGE information dump every class without time to reflect about any of it. He doesn't post quizzes until the day before, including the study guides, so you don't have time to study. The homework assignments are a LOT of work for very little points.
Professor Bunds for sure knows a lot about geology, and cares about talking about it. However this was one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. He asked questions that were so open ended that you didn't know what he wanted you to say. Most kids in my class did homework or played Roblox or Minecraft, and still got an A. Easy class, but awful.
I did not enjoy this class. While attendance wasn't taken, participation in in-class activities was mandatory for grading, meaning missing a class, for any reason, negatively impacted your grade. The tests were overly difficult and seemed to confuse rather than reinforce learning. I found the class unnecessarily challenging and stressful.
METO1010 with Professor Bunds is no walk in the park. The coursework is intense, but staying engaged and utilizing resources like Unstuck ai can really help. Grit and determination are a must, but the payoff is worth it.
You can tell the professor knows and cares about what he talks about in class, but he crams way too much information into one class period, and when it comes to test day most of the topics are foreign and unfamiliar. I also cant focus because the professor does little to nothing to engage the class and makes the class so lecture heavy and boring
Most time staking online class I ever had. Its just reading the textbook and taking a quiz after each chapter + an assignment. Never got feedback from him, only the TA's. The quiz, mid term, and final all had very niche questions- some answers not true to textbook or google. If not majoring in GEOG, trust: do not take this professor please.
The only resource you use to learn is a big textbook, 30 to 70 pages of reading every week. I studied for over 8 hours each test and still failed badly. The test questions seemed random and more like fun facts than coursework concepts. The grading was often harsh. Lots of the links didn't work, then you would get docked cos you couldn't access them
DO NOT TAKE! He is a horrible grader, has no grading rubric visible on any assignments. When he responds to assignments it is vague and lacks any advice, only criticism on what wasn't done. For a 3 credit, 1000 level course—I have done more reading and homework than my 3000 level courses. Save your time and money, get a better professor.
This course felt SO intense for a level 1000 gen ed class. I've completed all my gen eds and took this one for a certificate, yet it was more demanding and graded harder than many of my 3000 courses. The workload, grading, and exams felt excessive for an entry class, this class did not provide an enjoyable experience. DON'T choose this Professor.
