very helpful and explanatory on any question you may have. gives grace period on assignments. Lots of notes, however all from blackboard, all you do is print them out! Gives study guides for exams. Tests are multiple choice, matching, and true/false. Great guy!!!

He is one of a best teacher you can have. He has a passion for his teaching and class is really fun. (a lot of movies.) He uses curve, and lots of extra credit. And he is really cute and jokes all the time. So far, I got A and I am going to get A in the end.(What else, can you expect more? None!)

Super easy class. You're allowed to use "hot-to notes" on your tests which basically show you exactly how to do each problem. Easy A and he's a great teacher! really into his classes and is always cracking jokes!

Best Teacher!

He isnt a hard grader and if you just read and pay attention you can get a good grade. He gives lots of extra credit. My only complaint is that he has his major papers all due the same day and doesnt really describe them well.

Just ok. There are ALOT of assignments to do, it's kind of ridiculous. He is also a bit unclear about the essays and takes FOREVER to post up grades. Although, he is a genuinely nice guy and his lectures are VERY interesting. If you are willing to work hard and can deal with waiting for grades, take him.

Professor Cassens is such an excellent teacher! You have to keep up on the reading since there is a 1 page summary that is due for each chapter which is EASY! Also, you have to attend all the classes because his tests are 99% on his lectures. I highly recommend him and being very nice to look at is an extra plus.

Mr. Cassens makes class fun. Although attendance isn't mandatory, I recommend you show up because his lectures help you do well on the exams. Even though I didn't study for the tests at all, I did all his extra credit and was able to pass with an easy A.

I took his psychology 10 stats class. WOW! He's a great teacher. He lectures well and setups the class so everyone is able to succeed. I suck at math, but I ended up getting a 97% by the end of the class. He makes stats really cool too! If you need to fulfill a math IGETC, take this class instead of anything else.

He gives tons of extra credit so there is no reason you can't get an A. He also shows a lot of videos so the concepts are much easier to learn.

This class was an easy A, and it didn't even require me to study much at all. All the notes are on blackboard. He gives you 2 exams and 1 final. A reaction paper is due for each chapter, and there is a time-line as well as 2 essays you must write. It may seem like there's a lot of work in his class but it's really not! Cassens class=stress free :)

Honors class~ Super fun, his lectures are incredibly fun, clear, organized, yet he leaves a ton of room open for discussion. He's always willing to go above and beyond to help his students. He's really a wonderful guy!

Great teacher!!! I really recommend him! His lectures, as well as study guides for the tests, are all online so you never have to show up to class (i didn't and I got an A). At first the class may seem like a lot of work (one 300 word paragraph due per week along with the reading, plus 2 papers and a timeline) but it actually is very easy!

Easy if you do the regular assignments which are not hard. 3 major tests make up for 70% of total grade. 2 papers and a timeline at end of semester combined for 15%. thats pretty much all the work i put in all semester

This teacher is really good. Just keep up with the work and you will get an A. review his powerpoints= A on the test. I didnt go to class and just read parts of the textbook for relevent information. Hes pretty cute too

Great teacher and very passionate about what he's teaching! However I wish some his grading system wasn't so primarily focused on test the first two were 20% of your grade and the final was 30% only leaving 30% to make up for it if you are horrible at tests. I feel there should be a more even playing field. However tons of extra credit and overall wonderful teacher!

He is really funny and I found that rare in professors. His facial expressions are just too funny. he gets really into his topic when he talks. If you are looking for a fun Psyc class and an interesting one too, then take him! The only thing is that the work load is alot more than other psyc professors.

Amazing teacher. At the very beginning he tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A and its all simple to follow. The study guide makes it nearly impossible to fail the exams. If you somehow do the exams, there's enough extra credit to make up for the lost points.

He's lively and the only time he gets upset (doesn't show it) is if you fall asleep in class. Pay attention, scribble some notes, and you're fine. Granted, I took this in HS, so I already knew the concepts, but still. He's great, guys

He loves when the class gets involved, just try to stay on topic and save other stuff for after class/email. Some classes are naturally quiet, but just pitch some stuff at him, he'll be MORE than happy to interact. Means he might not finish lectures, but it'll be more interesting. He wants to cover what interests YOU, so speak up :)

Easy A, boring class. Cassens is an awesome guy though. Powerpoints every class that are already posted online & attendance is not mandatory, so it's hard to be motivated to go to class. Great teacher and great class. I had this class during summer which was double speed! it was still kind of easy to get an A. I got one C and 2 B's on my tests but still got an A because of the nice extra credits he offers. If you stay on task and do what he wants you to do with a little studying you will learn a lot and get an A.

One of the best classes I have ever taken! He is such a great teacher and he loves it when you participate and laugh in his class. There is a ton of extra credit offered and he curves down the tests a lot so they might seem hard when you take them but you do better than you think you did. The lectures can be boring sometimes but he makes them fun!

It's pretty early in the semester but so far, Professor Mike is a really cool. He's so nice and interesting that I actually want to go to class and take notes finally. I like that he tries to make class as unboring as possible and he's pretty cute too so that helps you know?! LMAO

As a returning student, I took stats at the UC level for an entire year and struggled. Mr. Cassen's step based approach was so well explained I never left class with that confused look on my face I had gotten used. You need to GO to class because your notes will end up being all you need; book kinda sucks. Extraordinary professor and cute to boot!

Had harder time in this psych1 class for english is my second language but teacher was VERY helping all the way. Spent time with him in and after class a lot, and he answered all my many questions. Very very good and got me very excited about some psychology ideas.

IVC gem, no complaints. Tests are loooong but easy.

I had him for Research Methods. Its the hardest class in psych so it was tough work, but he made it totally bearable and even fun. He let us come up with our own research topics and was super helpful. He talks about his wife and kids a lot, but he's totally cute!

As an older returning student I really appreciated how well he handled his stats class. He is an enthusiastic teacher and also has no problem controlling his classroom when some of the younger and louder students became distracting. Notes are available online, tons of questions on the tests, studying is crucial, everything else is fairly simple. Just write the chapter summaries, do the extra credit assignments, and remember when the test dates are.

Literally the best professor i've ever had. I took his Honors Psyc 1 last fall and i can't wait to take his Honors Psyc 13 this fall. I even had to put off one of my biology class into spring just to make room for his class. TAKE HIM!! it'll be your favorite class no doubt. Michael Cassens certainly does live up to his reputation as one of the best professors at IVC. He clearly knows what he is talking about and his lectures are never a bore, so there is no way that you would ever nod off in his class. Must keep up with the work, but I definitely recommend him to all!

He has a lot of enthusiasm and gives you a lot of opportunities to apply the lessons to your own life (and earn extra credit at the same time). Two midterms, one final. His lectures are really fun because he's a pretty fun guy and tries to make them entertaining as much as possible. Tests are easy if you study the material on the study guide. The final is cumulative unfortunately but just study the material. That's all.

Theres a reason his classes fill up so fast. Theres literally no reason to not like him as a professor! He's funny and extremely clear. Tests can seem daunting but theyre very easy to pass because he gives you extra points for getting questions he deems "hard" correct. Just do yourself a favor and take him.

He's great professor with hilarious lecture. You must work hard then you will pass this class. He is the best professor I've met.

His course is great for entry level psych. The most important thing you can do for this course is to complete ALL assignment as well as do as many extra credit ones as you can. Both don't take long and are worth such a large portion of your grade and you'll get 100% as long as the criteria is met. Study for test but don't worry too much.

Attendance isn't necessary. But he'll make you want to attend because he always makes his classes fun and intruiging somehow. Go online, reviewtake note of all ppts and you can expect to pass. Simply memorize and comprehend and there won't be any need for stress. I received an overall 99.99994%. Literally impossible to fail his class.

Cassens is one of the best IVC professors. He is passionate about his job and Social Psych was so interesting when he taught it. A year later, I still watch some of the videos he showed us just for my own entertainment. He also presents MANY extra credit opportunities so do them! The tests are sometimes a challenge but it's still a great class.

LOADS of extra credit, like, insane amounts of extra credit. If you're in his PSYC1 non honors class, your tests are curved heavily, to 170 out of 200, thus, you can get 30 extra credit points on every test on top of his other opportunities. There is a lot of reading but its not too bad. Cassens is also a sweetheart and a very nice dude.

Research methods is a tough class, but with Mike, you won't have to worry! He holds your hand through the whole process and is always available to help and answer questions. I would recommend anyone take every Psych class they can with him. You won't regret it! I wish I had come across such a great professor sooner while attending!

I took a month long PSYC 1H during summer. There were A LOT of assignments, which makes sense since this was an honors class and it usually takes a whole semester. He offers quite a bit of extra credit, so you will get an A as long as you finish all the assignments and get above C's on the test. His grading criteria is clear, so you do the math.

Currently enrolled in Cassens' psyc 1 and love it. he is so passionate about his field and lectures are extremely lively and the opposite of boring! lots of reading, so if you're lazy don't bother, but the text is so insightful and interesting! not many tests but the ones he does give are tough is to don't study hard. lots of extra credit too.

His power points are clear cut, it covers what you need to know for his exams; not to mentions his study guide. I didn't really learn much in this class, there is a bunch on extra credit. I ended up with a 105% which went down to a 101.5% since I bombed one of the essays. 2 essays, and one final. Quizzes are group quizzes, and there is online homework due every day. Fun guy and makes lecture interesting.

There are 3 exams, 6 quizzes which both are done in groups. A 35 percent final, and a fair amount of reading and homework. He is an amazing teacher and his lectures are very interesting.

really nice and funny however the online format was very disorganized and the amount of work assignment was excessive. his exams are stressful and i found that the final exam had nothing to do with what you studied. all and all, the course online is hard but he is a nice guy. he says it himself- if youre not looking to do work then dont sign up.

Took a fully online intro to psychology class with Mike (he likes to be called by first name!) and it was such a great experience. Cassens is an amazing professor who genuinely loves teaching psychology. The class has a lot of lectures, but it's easy to keep your grade up if you read the syllabus and complete the assignments on time. He curves exam grades, provides study guides, and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Fair warning, he uses Proctorio to monitor exams.

Mike is one of the more legit professors I've had at IVC. This class has A LOT of homework & reading, but it was definitely do able & I hate reading. Since it was online it was mainly do things at your own pace -DON'T GET BEHIND. I learned a lot and would definitely take other classes with him. My brain forsure had a good workout taking this class.

So I accidentally took the honors class rather than the non-honors class when registering which is probably why I wasn't expecting the workload coming from this class. There is a lot of reading and lectures as well as papers and the tests are all memory based! The lectures are super interesting but extremely long. Professor Cassens is great though!

prof mike is great. hes legit cares for his students and you can set up zoom meetings with him anytime. his class material isnt hard if u just do the work and the midterms werent bad either as long as u listened to his lectures!

Super funny. Lectures are quite long but broken up into parts, so if taken bit by bit, not too bad. The hw is straightforward and easy to do, everything is simple and an easy A as long as you do the work and keep up with all the discussions and writing assignments which are more busy work, reading the textbook is easy if you get the online version.

This class didnt make much sense to me because the homework did not correspond to the tests. Seemed like we were just assigned busy work to be honest. Overall the class was easy, tests are easy. Easy A-class and the teacher is really cool.

3 ex, 6 quiz. Each week: 1-400 w/c paper, 1 set of 5 practice q's, and 1-5 minute summary. Every other week 400 w/c analysis and quiz. 2 books to read and 2 papers, 1 pp project. Lectures are long but broken into 10- minutes. I put lectures on in background and notes/read the textbook. Loved this class and great professor. Time management needed.

It might be homework heavy, but it definitely helps you to learn. He is very passionate about it, and he is very understanding.

Beware, as each unit included about 30, five minute lectures to watch through since they weren't all combined. Definitely need to put in the work to get good grades, and tests require memorization of a lot of vocabulary/people.

Professor Cassens has the longest lectures I have ever seen and you need to know all the information on them to even have a chance of passing the exams. However, the exams do not really matter. He offers so much extra credit that you could fail each exam (D is the lowest) and still end up with at least a mid-B. He is a great professor and I respect

He has very long lectures but you DO have to sit through it because his exams ask questions from his lectures (keep skipping ahead by 5 seconds and only listen to the main points) and not from the textbook which is slight difference. Easy to get an A in his class. Just a lot of work, but I took his class in the Summer

I think he genuinely wants his students to get an A. He is not a harsh grader. Almost all of his assignments are completion grades and as long as you do most of the homework it is a guaranteed A because his exams are also not difficult. He offers a lot of extra credit, and I mean A LOT. The extra credits are usually easy to complete too.

If you aren't interested in psych and just taking it for credit, this class might not be for you. There is A LOT of work every week. But, there is also a lot of extra credit! You will get a good grade if you are DISCIPLINED, meaning check assignments ahead of time and stay on top of your game! He is a really cool guy and makes psych interesting :D

This prof genuinely cares about students' success and is very lenient with grading. I received full scores on every assignment as long as it was completed. Very clear grading criteria and tests were quite straightforward. He also gives a very lenient curve on exams. There were a lot of assignments, but they weren't really difficult until the final.

Professor Cassens is the best starter teacher for any incoming students. Before taking his class I didn't mind psychology but honestly, he inspired me. As my first class at IVC, it was amazing. He doesn't accept late work, his exams are all lecture-based, the reading/writing is easy, and a lot of extra credit, thankfully. I 100% recommend :)

The tests at Proctorio were the most challenging for me, however the instructor teaches really effectively and provides several options for additional credit. It was a pleasure to attend this class; he has fascinating posts and is constantly responding.

Professor Cassens' class is a lot of work, but the lectures are engaging and the extra credit makes it easy to get a good grade. Unstuckstudy AI and the free textbook helped me ace this course.

chapter readings due every week with 3-4 assignments. gives many extra credit opportunities. class was very smooth and assignments are not hard. honestly a very genuine and amazing professor. he is always looking out for your best interest.

He is a very nice guy, who deeply cares about his students, and you can see it because he gives a lot of extra credit, curves, and makes sure that you study for the upcoming exams. But he is super lecture-heavy, his lectures aren't (individually long) but are segmented and sometimes hard to watch because it is so spaced out.

This professor is hands down the best at the campus. He really cares about his job. First off, his class is proctored, so make sure to study up. His study guides are on point. Follow the study guides and you will have zero problems. If I could take his class again, I would!

Long lectures (around 4-5 hours per week?). heavy workload, expect to spend one whole day on this class each week (lecture+hw) bit too much work for me tho. I took his online class over summer and I wish it was an in person class. His online lectures are very long but entertaining. The exams are proctored so be sure to study! Overall, he inspired me to pursue psychology and he's a great Professor!

He's a very nice guy, and he's very clear that he wants us all to succeed. There are a lot of assignments, but if u have a schedule it's easy. I am a dual enrollment student and avid sports player, so I don't have a lot of time and take my review with a grain of salt.

Very easy to get feedback or talk about assignments/exams for help. Gives so many opportunities for extra credit, which are due by the last day. Very doable if you do not leave anything to the last day because there are a decent amount of things to turn in per week, as well as weeks leading up to an exam.

Take PSYC1 with Cassens, you will get an A if you put in the work. Just get your work done on time, every assignment is graded on completion. There is 16.5% of extra credit to get, and every test has a 15% curve. I took this course over 8-weeks, and there is a lot of work. Just listen to all the lectures on 2x speed and do the study guides.

This class makes me wish a natural disaster occurs and takes me out so I don't have to finish the class because of it's diabolical workload. BUT. very nice teacher and there is many many extra credit opportunities.

The only reason I rated the difficulty as "average" is due to the three exams he gives that are proctored and are closed book, but he provides a study guide for each that prepares you well for it.
