he is a hard prof. but is very fare. if you study his notes and study the study guide you can do very well.
teach everything needed
very good prof, knows his stuff, tough midterm, easier exam, but gives you lots of time
He's not a very passionate teacher. I studied on my own and managed a decent grade. His tests are a bit weird.
I'm sorry but I registered just so I can say something about this prof. I've had my fair share of bad teachers but I think this one takes the cake. Not helpful, very sarcastic, and unfair term tests. Coming from a dedicated student. he has made me very frustrated and losing interest in this course and this program! And I'm in a financial industry!
Attending lectures was a waste of time.
This teacher is completely useless, goes over ppt and das it, which are done by ann inglis, his midterms are hard, but his exam for 2006 was made for a bank machine which knows everything...DONT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS..... i am a dedicated student, did every quesiton on ppt, the book and cd....still his exam was a killer, he has no emotions, .........
Aww man... so many bad things come to mind. 1st up, its useless goin to him 4 help. 2nd, he's very bland in teaching this hard course since he took over Anne Inglis so we lost all hope. He's also writes very difficult midterms/exams so watch out. His final was just brutal. Vague on important topics so get tons of practice from txtbook. goodluck
His lectures are a total waste of time he just reads straight off the ppts!! Does not provide examples or practice questions in class at all. Do as many practice questions in the book if you end up with him. He is very unhelpful.
No point going to class, power points only; final was a killer, midterm i had a tutor and still got 60%, if u ask to explain, he'll look at u like u're an idiot for not knowing it, take another prof. if u can or skip all lectures and just spend those 3 hours studying on your own, it will be much more productive, they made a new exam this year
This class should not be as difficult as it was made... He has a tendency to rely heavily on powerpoints and does not use very many examples within class to help you gain an understanding of course material. I would suggest not taking the course with him, if avoidable, if you prefer having examples done in class.
This is a tough course to begin with. However Chung is okay at teaching things. The only problems with him are the tests. You really have to study the textbook and do the homework to get a good understanding of the material. Overall the course is difficult but not too bad. Just requires a little elbow grease to get through. Get ready to work!
(Rating under review)
Believe me or not he is definitely an easy going teacher. He gives 3 bonus marks and 10 marks in Quizes(easy to get). Just do all the recommended questions 2 times(very important) also do the questions which are on his slides. Last you will have to read the book carefully for theoretical mutiple choice questions on Midterm & Exam.
Worst professor ever. Not helpful at all... if you need a question, ask someone in the class because he won't answer. If you ask... How did you get that?! He will reply as if you are an idiot and say... you just do... Do not take finance with him... bad idea...
this guy isnt as bad as people say...he does try 2 ensure people understand...do the homework (for insurance, do the questions on the material he teaches that he doesn't assign) and you should be fine
Save your $$ and take Finance classes with any other prof. Terrible!!! RUN!!!
don't listen to these critics...in my class, those who did poorly complained that 7 out of 45 marks was based on a question that was covered in the first class. the fact is, he did tell everyone that the midterm was evenly based on everything taught from class one. these people don't listen--no wonder they did poorly! midterm was also fairly easy.
Whoever wrote the comment below is a J.A / Everyone heared what was suggested to study, but its Finance 401, not 300. Getting a Q thats worth 7 out of 45 on material from 300 is retarded. Its like getting tested for grade 10 math on a grade 11 test....This prof is not understanding, not flexible, and teaches right from slides. I am a 3.5 GPA studen
yeah,it would be retarded if it weren't in the COURSE OUTLINE! it would be retarded if he DIDN'T go through such questions. i clearly remember a girl asking, "will chapter 10 be in the exam?" he said, "yes, everything we cover will be evenly distributed." fact is, chapter 10 is a part of fin 401; if it weren't, it wouldn't be in the course outline
He just can't teach!!! Is that right?? Is that correct?? Is that right?? Is that correct?? Self taught?!DUH!
Not a good prof. keeps discouraging everyone. Teaches from the slides, and thinks that his students know everything he knows. Well, i dont know thats why i went to class to know. I would suggest not taking this course with him.by the way, i did really good in fin300. I wish i didnt take this course with him.
pay attention, do the homework, and do questions he DOESN'T ****ign just in case. if you snooze, you lose, right? i bet most of these bad reviews came from snoozers. plus, profs aren't supposed to spoon-feed students. don't be afraid of this prof.; just like in most other cases, if you work hard and pay attention, you will succeed.
can come off condescending at times, but tries 2 ensure every1 understands ("are we alright?","you ok?"). he won't move on unless every1 gets it. do your homework and focus on the questions he does in class. does rely heavily on power points, but he doesn't read them verbatim. he ain't as bad as people say he is.
best finance professor--period.
I got a tell you he is so useless, not helpful at all,he doesnt teach in a way that you can depend on him.
do ur work and u'll be fine
lucid and easy..2 thumbs up!
if teachers get graded from their superiors, he gets an A+.
There is no way those are student’s comments under me. Either he is grading himself or his kids are. He is a retired industry professional. He has is MBA, CMA and CFA. He was ok, but NO WAY 5’s across the board. He was too much into his slides and no hard examples from the text. TRUST ME, there are better profs out there teaching finance
do not take finance with him... There is better profs out there; trust me!
IS THAT CORRECT?
greatest professor of all time
Nice professor. He is helpful. He is a calm person. If you are a student who does your own work you could siply get a good grade in his exams. He is the one who set an exam paper in a manner blended with all difficulty levels. His questions are straight forward. No complicated questions. He knows what we needed to know for this course. Not less. Not more.
YES THAT IS CORRECT! I was completely dissatisfied when I took this with him. He hardly did questions. Places a lot of emphasis on theory when only 10% of the midterm and final is theory, the rest is ALL calculations. When you ask a question, makes you feel stupid and thinks hes better than you. I think the man enjoys failing students
He heavily depends on powerpoint.. Cannot teach finance off powerpoint without going over questions in class...also has questions from fin 300 for 15 mark questions ..find a better teacher
First, i did not believe what people said about this teacher.First day class was ok until i wrote my midterm. I did all the exercise assigned from him, but none of it was in the exam.I was so dissapointed, the test was really hard and simple. He only did 4 question from beginning to midterm. The way he did, he thought that everyone know already
i really really really dissapointed with this teacher. i have nothing to say, i just feel really bad now.
I found him to be a very clear, concise and fair professor. He does focus a lot on theory in class, so if you're weak with calculations, you really have to do your homework. I liked his style of teaching, although some may prefer more on-board examples, which he doesn't provide. His tests are mostly calculations but are very fair.
The worst finance prof out there. He likes to just stand there and read off his powerpoints, questions practiced and given on midterm exam is completely different. Very hard prof because he doesnt teach and very condescending!
Terrible professor! Makes the class seem like a breeze in the beginning but totally messes you up in the midterm. Heavily tests you on very specific theory and calculations are difficult. On the exam he twists calculation problems to the extent that you would move onto the next one to avoid wasting time. Avoid him at all costs.
AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS!!! ... change your time table around .. whatever you have to do!!!
HORRIBLE PROF!
This profeesor is cool. He explains the powerpoints thoroughly. He asks if anybody has questions. He summarizes the powerpoints. He also gives two breaks also and he kind of finishes early sometimes by 9:00 pm.
do all relevant homework questions and enjoy the ride...pay attention to what he covers in class...he ain't as bad as people say...
HORRIBLE!!! This prof mission is to fail as many students as he can! He does not bell curve and his tests are brutal!
chung is a piece of cake if u get help...i got a tutor who is the self-proclaimed "finance expert" (lol) and since he took 401 with chung, he told me exactly what to expect from him.his theory is tricky,t hgough, but otherwise, i went from a C from fin 300 to an A in fin 401 with the help of the tutor. chung 4 life!
This course is overall difficult but chung helps explain it clearly and has the best interest of the class in mind.
he scared me a lot in the beginning of class because he likes to say "i have no sympathy for you if you make this mistake in test", and his midterm is pretty hard, however, his final is not bad if you do all the assigned questions, and also he explains concepts very clearly. he is the prof that made me decide to major in finance.
I will say he is easy because all questions in the mid-term and final are covered in the powerpoints, study those examples you will be fine. Make sure you copy down important examples and not the theories in your cheatsheet.
Very knowledgeable, detail oriented, & explains material well. Entertaining personality. Tests & exam are not hard; contain questions similar to .ppt and homework questions. Course isn't hard. Read text & slides, & do homework. Course will be a breeze. No reason for you not to do well as you get a cheat sheet. I'd take another class with him.
His exams are not hard, but i know a few that drop and fail. If your good in FIN this will be easy as pie, if not i don't think this will be as easy for you. Good Prof. Recommended if your interested in Fin.
Chung does a good job of teaching an otherwise difficult course. The course load is high and one must study and do all problem sets in order to do well. Chung teaches the material well and is probably one of the better professors teaching finance.
Nightmare.Too negative, his fav words are: you CAN'T, NO, I'M NOT DOING THAT,if you do this and that you cant pass ect.He thinks it takes a genius to pass his class. The tests,he doesnt ask a lot of math questions,he prefers concepts. you make a cheat sheet of formula you cant even use. To pass his course, you kinda of to memorize stuff.
He's a good teacher and even funny sometimes. The problem is he's not very open to questions. It's his way or the highway. Also, he doesn't care much about student's achievements. He's in his office during the posted hours but no more than that. No office hours during the study break and the exam period. He's putting minimal efforts in teaching.
very set in his ways. our final was a killer. the book is so old he changes everything. His notes suck & thats all he talks about in class. he focused on calc questions for our tests and he is an incredibly harsh marker. he is totally useless when asking questions.he does not care about teaching at all. he wants to dump what's in his head & leave
Chung is a tough!! His tests consists of questions from the textbook but with a twist.. making it impossible for anyone to get perfect on the question. The course itself is a waste of life.. Just take any prof, use prof's notes, make an awesome cribsheet and hope.
Very knowledgeable in finance. Not mechanical at all, he can relate most day-to-day stuff to how you would see it in finance. Study consistently and read his stuff in advance, you should have no problems preparing for finals.
Very knowledgable guy, and it was nice that he was able to give some insights from when he worked in the industry, however, teaching is not really his strong suit. Still found his class very helpful in learning the material though. Course is organized kinda funny: 1st half is easy and he teaches 1 ch/week, 2nd half is tough and he teaches 2 ch/week
definitely not the greatest professor...just go to sos tutoring. they explained the topics way better.
Just chooses another professor. plz. I passed by the skin of my teeth. He was not helpful and he expected you to know everything already.
He is a fair Prof.He will not spoon feed you. You have to know you stuff from CFIN 300, otherwise you will not do well in this class. He doesn't explain things that you should have learned in CFIN 300 , he assumes you know it.Very knowledgeable. Just read the chapters ahead and do your homework . The midterm and Final were very easy.
He teaching method isn't that good. He simply goes over the power-points that are compiled from the textbook, so class attendance is useless. Just read the textbook and do questions. Both midterm and final were reasonable in terms of difficulty.
Hes not a good teacher lecture wise, but if you ask him in person hes very helpful. His lecture style is very boring, I would recomend that you dont bother going to class cause he will bore to to sleep or to leave. Just read the book and learn the calculator on you own time. He makes decent slides.
Very boring, and unclear. Says "Is that correct?" a million times per class which is very annoying. Seems like a nice guy though.
I went to every single class and I have to say it did nothing to enhance my understanding of the course material. Your 3 hours would be better spent just reading over the textbook. The key to this course is mastering the calculator. If you can do the intermediate lvl questions at the end of each chapter it shouldn't be too difficult. Just practice.
You will hear the words "Is that correct?" in your head for days after attending this class - that's what he says after every sentence. Boring, unhelpful and unwilling to assist in any way are words to describe this prof. Steer clear.
One word: Gaaaaaaaah. Oh ya, and: Is that correct? Avoid at all costs unless you want to fail.
He was far most the WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD - he did not even do more than 2 questions on the board - and this is a math finance course! had to beg him for help - i dont know why Ryerson would employ such a professor!
Most topics covered in class were theory based- which I can learn with my own reading. He did manage to show us a few simple calculations in which he confuses us even more.
Professor Chung is clearly there only to have some sort of work post-retirement. His lack of passion for teaching and patience for students is clear as well. Take with another Prof unless you plan on self-study from the text.
Make sure to not take his class for many seasons, 1- you will not learn ,because he only points out,he does not make sure you understanding. 2- when you ask questions he raises his voice as if you are dam, the rest of class feel nervous to ask questions, 3-he
Mr. Chung is highly intelligent instructor. He knows his stuff like a true Financial person, not the shallow, textbook sort of knowledge. You can tell. I love his powerpoint slides, very helpful in understanding the complexity of Finance. Very sad to miss a couple of his classes. I rate this as I wait for my marks, so it is very unbiased.
If you are taking this course with chung then you are better off studying at home.. it is pretty much a self study course when you take it with him.. he maybe knowledgeable but he shouldnt be teaching.. he keeps on asking "are we alright?" which is extremely annoying since you cant understand him already... he usez the phrase around 30times/lecture
BAD! Avoid him. He lacks passion in teaching. Unless you want to struggle your self.
This class was 100 times harder than it needed to be because of him. He was TERRIBLE. I had to teach myself the entire course from the textbook. Do yourself a favour and avoid him! The only upside to taking his class was that his final exam was pretty fair. Midterm was a killer. Make sure you do good on lyryx because that'll be the reason you pass
The ratings on here are from people who put in zero amount of work. If you attend lectures, go home and study what was taught in class, you should have no problems. His lectures are long but interesting. I expected to fail this class after reading these comments but mann was I pleasantly surprised. Dont be scared! Just work hard.
He is really good at making his students understand the concepts however he does not properly go through the calculator, so make friends & sit near the front. Study and do the crib sheet in advance and you should be fine. Make sure to do lyryx (easy 20%).
This Prof is not one of those who cares about students. He made the FIN401 so much harder than it is supposed to be. Avoid this professor if you want a good grade. He is teaching well, gives good examples. But he is one of those profs that want you to fail. He does his questions as complicated as it possible. Super tough exams. Never take this guy
unbiased: barely passed. Go to his class, gives really good examples. PRACTICE IS KEY. If u dont get it he'll help u get the right answer. ppl skipped & missed important parts ie. deducting tax for leasing. midterm was fair and final consists theory questions from final doc. sample on D2L. Dry subj but if u want to pass work hard for it.
Although I found some of the exam questions to be poorly worded, making the questions unnecessarily complicated -- overall, midterm & exam were fair. Nice enough professor. Lecture style is quite boring. Most of the class is spent watching him read from his powerpoint slides. If you did well in Fin300, Fin401 w/ Chung should be fine.
Really worth to attend the class: it helps to narrow down the topic and to solve problems. If proper notices were taken it is not required heavy reading. It was really interesting and useful to hear examples and explanations of the difficult definitions and concepts. Would definitely recommend this professor.
