It's obvious that he's never taught before. There is no cohesion in the material and he over-complicates things. Office hours do help somewhat, but he's often too busy helping other students.
He's a new professor. It's apparent that he does need more time to improve, but everyone does. His review sessions are extremely helpful. You will not complain about him if you don't keep facebooking and texting in the class. Good person and good professor.
Exams come from slides- Memorize them. MUST go to office hours to do well on exams. Very helpful during office hours - ask questions! Lectures are often long and tedious but he is smart. He's so awkward that it's funny. You have to put in lots of time to make sure you understand concepts - Loves it when you "appreciate" the "big picture".
He is mostly good. Tests are hard, but only covered lecture material. Office hours help simplify things.
The key to succeeding in this class is memorizing powerpoint slides. Also, piecing them together into an understanding of the bigger picture. Clark is awkward and not very helpful. He is new though, and he has to live up to the name of the great Terry Platt. Exams are hard, and the fact that he doesn't give enough time makes them harder. Work hard.
He can be a bit awkward, but he's a nice guy. His tests are very hard, but the answers are always in the lectures - missing a lecture WILL hurt as making sense out of the slides isn't that easy. He's certainly approachable, but it may take a little bit to get the answer you need. Office hours are helpful, but crowded.
Clark is a new professor so he's still learning how to present material efficiently and clearly. He isn't bad but he needs a bit of experience with his lectures. His PowerPoints tend to be a little too long, so he usually has to rush through the last 15 slides or so. Biochem is really tough; he's apparently helpful at office hours though.
He has a lot to improve but I'm sure he'll do better with a few years of lecturing under his belt. Memorize EVERYTHING because he will put anything and everything on a test. He looks like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory
Lectures are awful. Each topic is rushed through in 4 or 5 slides, and Clark never finishes his absurdly long powerpoints. Exams cover only powerpoint materials, but the slides are poor to the point of indecipherability. Your only chance of getting a respectable grade is to review in workshops and in office hours.
Clark is crazy smart, but he is not a great lecturer. He's awkward, but very approachable. Lectures are way too long, and the slides tend to have so much on them that they're overwhelming. Pretty rough for an intro class, a lot of hardcore biochem. Exams are NOT easy, you will have to study A TON to do well.
It's a tough class and you really have to know your stuff for the tests, but everything is in his lectures. He lectures from power points and sometimes doesn't finish them, but posts all of his lectures online and will finish the material at the next class. Take detailed notes. He curves at the end so you'll probably do better than you think.
He is a good professor. Not amazing, but good. The class is tough with a ton of material to learn, but it's all in his lectures and he's helpful at office hours. I came in thinking I could breeze it because I did well it a tough AP Bio class and got a 5 w/out much work. WRONG. So for you smarties, put in some effort. But really, study and you're ok
He is very clear about what will be on the exam, but make sure you take note of questions asked orally in class or questions on lecture slides. Lectures are long but are good study tools. Office hours are also very beneficial because questions asked during office hours might come up on exams.
He is a pretty good professor. His lectures are clear, if a little dense, and cover everything on the tests. Tests can be tricky, though. He is also very helpful in office hours. Don't worry too much about the bad reviews from earlier - he was still a new prof. He has clearly gotten the hang of how to organize good lectures and teach well.
He's a pretty good professor. Lectures are long and dense, but this basically means there's never something on the test that wasn't mentioned. Take good notes, don't just study slides. Tests are hard, but he knows it's a tough class and the curve is nice at the end. Overall, a great class. You learn a TON. He's a nice guy too.
Professor is a little awkward, but he's actually really funny and nice. Lectures are dense but all the slides are online. Biggest advice is keep up with material, it's impossible to learn it all right before the test. I've never gotten below an A- in any class ever, but I got a B- because I didn't keep up with lectures. My fault, not Clarks.
Dr.Clark is a very smart and nice professor. Biochem is not easy! Definitely attend his class cuz he mentions all the important points which will all in the exams. I didn't do really well in this class but it's my own problem not Dr.Clark's. I really enjoy this class and learn a ton! Office hour really helps and he is very approachable! Best ever!
He's a rather mediocre professor. He tries to be helpful with office hours but is unclear and confusing. His tests aren't bad. I just didn't like his style of teaching.
Dr. Clark is a solid professor and I would definitely recommend him. Although his lectures are a little long, they are fairly easy to understand. Tests are tough but fair, keep up with lecture notes and readings and you should be fine
Clark is quirky and funny, and lectures are clear and for the most part, interesting. But his exams were extremely difficult, long, and to some extent unfair. The exams are difficult, and you really do have to work hard to get a good grade. Do not take this class lightly and make it one of your top priorities.
Genetics lab was incredibly educational. His labs teach you useful, real techniques and the class is designed so that you aren't mindlessly following a procedure, but so that you understand what you're doing. Lab manuals are occasionally poorly written, but the TA knows what's up no it's not a big deal. Curves the class to a B.
Definitely one of my favorite professors this term. Incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. He is also very helpful in office hours. His tests are challenging, but they really encourage you to think critically apply the concepts taught in class experimentally. For me, it was helpful to review his lecture notes right after class.
Clark is very full of himself and only accepts the answers he has in his head. The tests are extremely hard and it seemed like all the points on multiple part questions went to the most minor detail. He does not know how to curve, and has a preset class average prior to even administering the exams. If you're thinking of taking BIO 112, just don't.
Clark pops into the lab occassionally, which is pretty great considering most lab instructors could care less about checking on their students. The lab manuals are pretty well written and the techniques you learn/use are actually relevant to modern research. Two big write-ups are long and tedious. Practical and other assignments are easy.
I have mixed feelings about Clark. On one hand he is a great lecturer and makes the topics interesting. On the other hand, even though he claims his tests are not all memorization, they are. Definitely a challenging course.
Clark is a quirky and charming professor who is often nicknamed "Sheldon" (from The Big Bang Theory) across dinner tables. His lectures are evenly spaced and difficult concepts well-explained, but his lectures also tend to be long, dry, and occasionally coma-inducing. Exams are very difficult - lecture and workshop attendance is a must.
Dr. Clark is a great professor. His lectures are interesting yet concise. The material that he teaches can be difficult to understand but after reading through his powerpoint again is manageable. His tests are definetly hard. And one of his downsides is that you never really know what grade you have in his class until the end of the semeseter.
There is a TON of material that must be MEMORIZED to succeed in this class. Covers majority of it in lecture slides, but some random terms and definitions are only in the book. Good lecturer, can be unclear or assume concepts are simpler than they are at time. Midterms are doable if you study, but tough. The 300 pt cummulative final is BRUTAL.
Clark's class was unbelievably interesting. He tries so hard to apply what he teaches into life and medicine. I loved going to class, and he is adorable. His exams are pretty tough though. Memorize anything and everything he tells you in lecture - and believe me that's a LOT. The curve is nice, I expected a B but got an A-!
Best lecture slides I've seen thus far. He is really enthusiastic about the material and explains things so well. Take his class in the summer if u can. My class had 11 students this summer, going to class was fun and the material was soo interesting. I'd be surprised if anyone got less than a B
He reminds everyone of Sheldon Cooper. Seriously he is really helpful. He explains concepts very well. He has discussions with the class. He really makes you think about the reasons why things happen. Great professor.
He is amazing! very funny and very clear!
Only class I never miss because it is both interesting and helpful. Clark is a great lecturer and keeps me interested in the subject.
Clark's class was good. If you pay attention to him in class you will do well in the class. His lecture slides are great if you miss a class but him speaking in class is definitely way better, he really knows the subject and communicates the important parts well. Textbook was a waste of money because he is such a good lecturer.
Clark is a great lecturer. Great lectures, sorta difficult tests.
Clark's passion for biology is infectious. Overall amazing professor
Dr. Clark is a great lecturer. He is hilarious, friendly, and always in a good mood to help. I wish he offered more classes.
Dr. Clark is one of the best professors at Rochester. Tests are tough, but you will learn a lot in his class. His passion for biology is apparent in all that he does and his excitement is contagious. Great class.
Dr. Clark is an amazing professor! He isn't the easiest professor to approach, but his crisp clear lectures make up for it. His presentation slides are the best I have seen. He is very clear about what to expect on the exams. Take biochem with him over the summer and it'll be worth your while!
Clark was one of my favorite teachers this year, he clearly cares about the subject he teaches and tries to make it interesting for students. The lectures can get kind of dry, a lot of reading off of power points, but they're still interesting. He's very clear, and won't try to trick you on tests.
Professor Clark is honestly the best BIO teacher I've ever had. He is the Sheldon Cooper of the BIO Dept., and his office hours are very helpful (GO TO THEM!!!).
Dr. Clark is Sheldon Cooper reincarnate, but with better teaching skills. BIO 112 with him was a very interesting and useful foundation to biology. His lectures can be a little dry and content-heavy, and he does tend to read off the slides, but you still definitely need to attend every class. Also, pay attention in workshops, too!
Beware this class if you haven't taken Bio in a while or have never taken AP Bio, like me. There was a lot of this class that was way over my head and honestly I don't know how I passed. He's a good prof, there's just a LOT of info in each lecture, and he doesn't always tell you what you do and don't need to know from it.
This class was probably more difficult than BIO 110 has been in the past, but its not hard. I didn't go to class all semester and got an A so it isn't insanely difficult.
He is my favorite bio professor. His lectures are very clear and thorough and his teaching style is awesome. You won't need to open textbook. Just study from his lecture slides.
Best bio professor in the department. Clear and informative lectures.
Clark is a great teacher and very interesting, but the tests are hard so you need to put in time for studying.
Clark's tests and lectures took a little while to get used to, but once you understand how he teaches and tests you his class becomes more enjoyable. He was a great professor and honestly cared about what he taught and wanted his students to do well.
I took BIO112 with clark and TA'ed for his BIO110 class for 2 semesters and I can honestly say he is one of the professors who most sincerely cares how much his students get out of his class. His class is hardonly to push you to get as much as you can out of the class. Ask questions! He is always willing to talk science with you! Best professor!
Definitely takes some effort to do well in this class. But if you put in the work, you'll see results. Be sure to go to workshops because they help! Clark is an amazing professor, is very clear with what you need to know, and clearly enjoys teaching. I would take another class with him in an instant.
Absolutely take Clark! He takes questions directly from the workshop (So be sure to attend all workshops and understand workshop material). Clark never put anything on an exam that he had not covered. I never read the textbook and never had an issue. While Clark is not "easy" and I did study a lot, his exams are EXTREMELY fair. Re-watch lectures.
I took Clarks 110 series. His tests especially in the beginning were difficult to follow. He loves testing on minuscule details that he really enjoys. I would recommend re-watching lectures as well as the notes and it will help out a lot. Not sure I would take a class with him again though, I did not enjoy his teaching style and approach on exams.
Be sure to attend workshops and rewatch lectures. Understanding the concepts is simply not enough to do well. If you want to be successful be sure to understand the workshop problems and pay attention to details mentioned during lecture. Clark tends to test specific details on his exams.
Great professor, but make sure to rematch lectures because most of test material will involve concepts he discussed in class that are not on the slides. Workshop material/questions is also really important and will likely show up on exams. Interesting, but talks ALOT.
The class is difficult in the sense that his tests are based around looking for specific key words in order to get full credit. You can't just go based off his lectures, and there's a lot of times when he might say that something's important for a test and he won't mention it. There's a lot of material involved, but the grading scale is nice.
He is excellent lecturer and you can nearly learn anything from his workshop and slide, the structure of the class is really clear.
Great professor, intelligent while simultaneously able to clearly explain complex ideas
Best bio prof compared to others. Takes time to get used to his exam styles. Don't have to go to the lectures. Need to memorize everything on ppt for the tests. 3 midterms and 1 final. Might curve. Make sure you understand the workshops and readings. Lab depends on the TA you have. The more you have past exams the more successful you will be
He is such a nice person and a great professor! Don't have to attend class, but must rewatch lectures. 95% of what he says in class is important for the exam, but he gives guidelines as to what is important to know. The textbook is optional (I didn't really use it). Office hours are great, but don't come unprepared
The class is definitely hard and you will have to study for the exams a lot, but Dr. Clark gives a lot of resources to help you succeed and is usually pretty clear about what you need to know for exams. I really enjoy how he connects what you are learning in class to real life examples and shows how the concepts work in our daily lives.
He is an amazing lecturer and extremely straight forward. You don't need to go to lecture because they are online but they are the key to success in his class because he will point out what he wants you to know. He truly loves bio and enjoys teaching it. Go to his office hours if necessary! I had his head TA for workshop and she was amazing
Dr. Clark is my favorite. I chose to take his section of 110 for a challenge as I didnt really have previous bio experience and it was a great choice. He really helps get you into the college groove and helps to teach yourself how to study. Lectures are very detailed and explanatory. Tests are challenging but manageable if you work hard.
This class is what helped me rediscover my love for biology and change my major. I adored it. Dr. Clark is so kind, and his passion for biology is just contagious. Take advantage of his office hours! He explains concepts so well, and he truly cares about your learning. He is also adorable.
I'm in his genetics lab class, and he removed the required formal lab reports and has us answer relevant, engaging questions that can be easily understood. I had him for BIO 110 as well, and he made the requirement for an A only an 85% overall in the class. In BIO 110, there was a lot of material, but it's worth it. He's also a nice guy overall.
A lot of people say that he is a great professor but I disagree. He expects that everyone has biology knowledge before taking this course and pours so much detailed information about biology that made me dislike biology. His exams are hard especially because he asks many specific questions. He was rude when I went to his office hours.
Dr. Clark is great(especially comparing to others). The only thing that needs to get an A is to attain a lecture and to take a note back home. Even though it might spend some time, but it worth. From no any high school level Bio knowledge to A.
A lot of people say that he is a great professor but I DISAGREE. He makes the worst exams ever. TAs grade the exams and they just suck at it, grading is very random and does not have any clear criteria. Awful class. Workshops are required and they are the most boring thing you have to sit through.
Great professor, super clear lecturer and his exams really make you think (nothing out of the ordinary though). Only need an 85 for an A which is nice. Office hours are helpful but one-on-one he can get kind of awkward. Overall an enjoyable class.
Study for his exams! They cover a lot of information (idk now bc it's online though) and they mirror closely to some of the workshop problems, but he expects you to know minor details on concepts as well. Exam problems ranged from simple factual ones to application type ones. I think Dr. Clark gives good lectures. I liked this course.
If you dont have a good foundation in biology or chemistry, this class is insanely difficult. He says that this is a beginner class but expects you to know a lot more than the average person coming in which is very frustrating. You will receive minimum feedback and harsh grading. Bleh, this class was painful.
Dr. Clark worked really hard to make online learning less stressful for his students. He shows so much passion for biology and he holds office hours almost every day! The workshops are fun if you are prepared. Exams are tough but he will curve it most of the time.
Exams are heavy on application questions and are usually very diffuilt. Focus on the "real world" examples he uses because they'll probably show up on the exam. He curves some exams if the average is below 70. He accepts criticism and changes accordingly, so let your TA's know if there is a problem. A lot of "DIY", only workshop attendance requir
Dr. Clark is one of a kind. he is the BEST at lecturing and is passionate about what he teaches. I had some unfortunate events during the semester that I had his class, and not only was Dr. Clark understanding, but there were days where I had to listen to hours of lectures at a time due to my circumstances and I would never lose focus. Great Guy!!!
I have taken two classes with Dr. Clark and been a TA for him as well. He is one of my favorite professors at U of R, and genuinely cares about the success of his students. His class is definitely difficult but he is very clear about his expectations and what you should know, so if you put in the time you will succeed without a doubt.
He is simply amazing!
He is an insanely harsh grader. We just took our first test. All the questions were open ended and he gave no partial credit at all. You're only graded on the two tests, one paper, the final exam, and workshop participation, so be ready to study. He's a very nice professor and you can tell that he's passionate about what he teaches.
Dr. Clark is kind, clearly cares about his students, and is passionate about biology. However, the class is pretty heavy for an intro class if you haven't taken bio before. LOTS of studying required. Test questions are very open-ended and grading is a bit tough. Lectures have a lot of info but are well organized and clear for the most part.
He really wants you to pass but you need to put in effort as well. Focus on your workshops and go to office hours.
Dr. Clark is a very good professor! You definitely have to study hard to do well in this class, but that is true for every biology course. Attend workshop and put the time in and an A is achievable in this class.
He really cares for his students and tries to make a difficult class easier. The tests are predictable and his lectures are organized. I have nothing but nice things to say about him, he made my first semester a lot less stressful.
Clark is my favorite prof so far. At first you might not like him because of his teaching style but this class is content heavy so there are no other ways to do it. However, he is very understanding when I comes to deadlines and cares about the student a lot. I found myself enjoy his class a lot more later in the semester.
Dr. Clark is clearly very caring, but his teaching style is kind of scattered. While he takes the time to clarify, it isn't to the level that he asks for on the test, therefore making tests difficult.
Dr. Clark clearly cares about his students - he stays long after class to answer questions and has office hours every weekday (which are super helpful, btw!) My only complaint is that his grading criteria is very vague and he tries a bit too hard to come up with creative questions that don't make much sense. Otherwise, a good intro professor.
This class is A LOT easier if you've taken AP bio, but you can still easily get an A if not. Tests are generously curved, and there are test corrections on the first test. Textbook is too detailed but might be helpful for you. He doesn't post many keys for practice exams but questions tend to repeat. Workshop is very useful hope you get a good TA.
Dr. Clark clearly cares about bio and his students. Go to lectures because the class moves pretty fast and so that you can take the pop quizzes. The tests are more open ended questions that you have to think about, so make sure you understand what you are learning and don't just memorize it. Very possible to get an A as long as you put in the work
He was the absolute best professor to have to start my college experience. His lectures were engaging and he connected them to current events especially relating to covid. He was easy to communicate with for disability accommodations and truly wanted me to be successful. Protect this man at all costs, he's a true gift.
If you try, no matter your biology experience, you can get an A. He wants people that try hard to get A. Full credit for completion of pop quizzes. DOWNSIDE: tests are written poorly because the answer that Dr. Clark is looking for is not always clear so make sure to write whatever you know about the topic that is being asked about for full credit.
Take him! Dr. Clark is super nice, and is really easy to get A if you put in enough effort. He has difficult exam, and the grading might be a bit tougher. On the other hand, it's still easy to get A with points from lab, workshop, quiz, and test correction. He is very easy to reach out to clear a concept as well about other advice.
Loved Dr. Clark! Lectures can be a little bit of an info dump but he is incredibly helpful in office hours and makes himself super accessible outside of class. Super willing to help if you come to office hours and will re-explain things nicely. Textbook is pretty dense so I didn't really use it, and workshop is helpful if you had a good leader.
Clark is amazing, by far one of the best professors I've had. If you put in the time and effort you'll get a good grade. If you're struggling in the class go to office hours, it really helps!
Clark does a great job of teaching a 400-person class. Workshops questions will often end up on tests. He tells you specifically what to learn, so do it. Sit in the front to answer questions and you'll get a lot more out of lecture. Info-heavy.
Dr. Clark was great! I thought his lectures were pretty straightforward and his slides are actually helpful when using them to study later. Workshop questions are the best to study from. His office hours are really helpful, definitely go to them before exams.
Don't worry about bad grades, tons of curves and easy options to get an A
Besides his great teaching and kind grading, he is also a very kind and caring person. When I decided to cancel my application to be his TA partially because that I think I'm too shy to achieve that, he shared his experience that shy introverts can also be excellent teachers. A helpful professor as he is, I cannot like him more.
A little strange but a good guy and a good prof. Tests are hard and he is very picky about grading!
I love Professor Clark, he is such an icon. His lectures are thorough but digestible, plus he truly cares about improving his teaching to benefit his students. He understands how stressful college is and does everything he can to alleviate stressors such as grades or readings. Strong curves on tests and doesn't rely on a textbook. Very funny guy :)
Clark is easily one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are engaging, he's accommodating, and genuinely cares about all of his students. He also connects concepts to the real world, often presenting recently published papers and asking the students in lecture question about the topic. He is respect by all of this students, 10/10 class.
The lectures were pretty dense, but I thought he did a great job of explaining things in many different ways. Tests are difficult but should be manageable if you go to/participate in the workshops and look at practice exams. Would def recommend going to his office hours if you're confused bc he explains things well
A lot of people say this class is heavy for an intro course but I have never taken a biology course before (even in high school) and found the class very enjoyable. The tests were made to make you think and not regurgitate information and the lectures are dense, but with enough time it's very manageable.
great bio professors. class is super structures and organized. explains things clearly with detail. overall great professor!!
Dr. Clark is easily one of the best professor at U of R. He gives amazing, passionate lectures, and is really clear when addressing content. Dr. Clark was always accessible in office hours to help students. He really wants to help students succeed. I also got a kick out of his lectures, he was pretty funny in them! And for exams, just study hard!
Clark was hands down one of the best profs I've ever had. He explains topics very well and is more than happy to go over them in office hours. His exams aren't difficult if you study and closely follow what we learn in workshop/lecture. He is super accommodating and genuinely cares for his students.
My class was online and he's very sweet and tries hard to make things easier for his students. Super easy to talk to outside of class. He has options for students falling behind so PLEASE talk to him. During my year he offered an extra credit assignment, but that could have been cause of covid. Go to the workshops that's basically the whole exam.
Dr. Clark is great! Go to his office hours and study the workshops for exams!
If Michael Clark has a million fans, I'm one of them. If Michael Clark has five fans, I'm one of them. If Michael Clark has one fan, it is me. If Michael Clark has no fans, I am no longer alive. If the world is against Michael Clark, I am against the world.
Dr. Clark is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. He's very helpful outside class and he's very willing to help students with what they need. He's very kind and I would strongly recommend taking a course with him!
Dr. Clark is by far the best professor. I learned so much in his class. He is direct in what he wants you to know for the exams. Additionally, I attended his office hours, and he was such a genuine person to chat with. Some advice for the class is, to understand workshop questions thoroughly and review all his past exams for the tests.
The best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about you and making sure you understand the material. His material isn't hard as long as you study and go to lecture. Lectures are pretty engaging for the most part since he's funny and he explains things in a simple manner. He's a really fair and nice man.
I love Clark! He is so kind and very funny. I love attending his lectures because they are always engaging. His TAs grade very close to their answer key. Make sure you get the key word they are looking for and you will get the points. Clark does all regrades himself and always gives points back.
Dr. Clark is truly one of the best professors. He is extremely kind and is always accessible outside of lecture. Some tips for the class: - Go lecture & workshop! - Re-do workshops for the exam - Rewatch lectures and taken hand written notes while studying - Practice exams!!! - Go to office hours!!!
I loved this class and Dr. Clark is an engaging lecturer. Truly solidified my love of biology. He's great! Funny and gives clever examples for understanding material.
By far the best professor I've had this semester (and maybe over the course of 4 years)! Dr. Clark has such a sweet personality and keeps lectures engaging. He reminded me why I really love bio. His exams are the most fair a professor can give (just study at least 3 days in advance) and go to his office hours. Very easy A if you put in fair effort.
I like professor Clark. He's loves teaching and is actually good at it. I've learned so much foundational information for bio that I didn't learn in AP Bio. His lectures are actually interesting, and it's not too hard to get an A in the class. His tests are fair; take good lecture notes and you'll be fine. Makes me interested to learn more bio!
Professor Clark is someone that should teach all students. He is so driven about his work and is so charismatic to his students. He had office hours every day and heavily cared for your well-being. While the class is nonetheless challenging, Professor Clark does his best to help all students pass. The class is content-heavy, but a good course.
Dr. Clark is one of the best professors I had. He is very passionate about studying biology. I wish I could be as invested in biology as him. One important thing to note is that his lectures are content-heavy, so I find it much harder to take notes in class.
Dr. Clark is incredibly genuine and caring towards each of his students and is deeply passionate about biology. The exams are relatively straightforward + he lets students know which topics are important to study for them. He provided tons of resources to help students with course content/just learn more about biology. Absolutely deserves a 5/5.
Dr. Clark is both an amazing professor, and person. Exams mimic exactly what is covered in lecture, and studying old exams helps immensely, especially for the final exam (our final exam had many questions that came directly off of old final exams). Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives pop quizzes that can help your grade. Overall great class.
Office hours are the most helpful study resource for tests, go early before there's a stampede outside his office. But very nice guy, very chill, and cracks some jokes here and there. Interesting lecturer. Past exams as practice are also very helpful.
His lectures have lot of information packed into them, so the way to succeed is to really pay attention and make note of the points that he highlights. He is always available outside of class and has office hours every day. It's manageable if you stay on top of the material, pay attention during workshop, and do practice exams.
Dr. Clark's lectures are very informative and interesting but most of the material on his slides are not covered on the exams (you don't need to know extreme details). He would post readings before each class, but they were really just for entertainment and never tested on. Workshops and old exams are the key to do well in his class.
This professor is the best, like the best. Amazing lecutures, covers everything.
Professor Clark is one of the best teachers I have had so far. His lectures are very detailed and thorough, making you quite prepared for his tests. The tests are a bit intimidating at times and there are some difficult questions. However, tests are generously curved, which makes it very possible to get a desired grade.
An amazing professor. Clark gives detailed and organized lectures. He knows how to teach the content well and encourages questions if students are struggling. He explicitly states what material will be the focus on the exam. To succeed in this class, I recommend reviewing lectures, workshops, and past exams. Overall a great experience.
Dr Clark is one of the few prof that seem to really care about his work. He is super engaging with the material and makes it fun for you to study. His tests are very straight forward and he basically tells you what to specifically study for the tests. Super funny guy. Do beware of random pop quizzes.
Clark is iconic! He is the best professor ever! He tries and succeeds to make lectures relatable and makes seemingly boring topics interesting. I feel like the course was challenging but very doable with effort. It is easy to get overwhelmed in lecture, but if you go to office hours, the tutoring center and workshop, you will be fine.
Clark is such a good professor. His lectures are really interesting. It's obvious he cares about the subject and his students. It's very important that you attend class and take notes. He gives opportunities for extra credit which is really nice. Exams are doable IF you understand the material and aren't just memorizing straight facts.
Not completely on tests which is nice. Pop quizzes are not bad and easy as long as you attend lecture. Very kind and caring professor. He makes sure you know the material all while giving a fair grade. There is also a paper that is not too hard if you plan ahead a bit and submit a draft early. Certainly the best professor in the bio department!
Loved the class. I enjoyed the lectures. Tests are easy if you work hard.
Clark is funny and charming as hell. He is also very helpful and clear in his teaching. He convinced me that bio is the right major for me. I also like how he connects bio with other aspects of life and society.
really great prof! go to office hours.
Dr. Clark is a very clear, caring, and detailed lecturer. His slides are well-made and he provides other resources for every lecture. Go to class, workshop, and do practice exams and you'll do well in his class.
Dr. Clark is a wonderful Professor, on exams, I thought his grading was very fair and the content covered for the exams were very straightforward. Even if you dont understand, he is accessible outside of class and provides lots of practice exams (which I highly recommend you practice on.) As a person, hes like a shy uncle with cool hobbies.
I love Michael Clark so much. He does expect you know a biology basis a bit but he is really good at explaining things in OH. For the exams you should be able to hold a conversation with him about biology and the topics
Dr. Clark is a very entertaining lecturer with extremely organized slides. He really cares about his students' concerns and successes, and encourages everyone to talk with him outside of class. To be prepared for his exams, go over practice exams with him in office hours and be able to hold advanced conversations of the topics with him.
loved this class so much. dr clark is an amazing teacher and an even more amazing person, he is so understanding and genuinely wants all his students to do well! his colleagues should take notes. practice past exams, go to office hours and ta office hours if you can! & workshop was extremeley helpful too.
Fantastic lectures that clearly conveyed the material. I'm not usually a big fan of large lectures, but Professor Clark was very good at keeping things both engaging and comprehensive. Get ready to take notes as information can come fast, but the test material is just what's on the slides, so you can always go back and know what to study.
one of my favorite classes! really good professor who actually understands the material he is teaching. to succeed, do past papers, review slides and get all the extra points (extra credit n pop quizzes). really not a hard class and you do not need to know every single detail to do well.
Dr. Clark is great at lecturing, his slides and spoken explanations are engaging and make sense. The course also has weekly 2-hour long workshops and biweekly 3-hour long labs. The labs are fun and not too complicated, requiring a minimal assignment afterward. Workshops are very useful and necessary to do well in the class.
So understanding. Go to office hours he is so helpful, friendly and will get to know you. If you put in EFFORT for the tests you will do well. Good lecturer I did not get bored and he made me like molecular/cellular biology. Really funny and cares about his students. Challenging class but so rewarding. Office hours vibes are the best with him.
Absolutely love him. Best professor ever.
Prof Clark is one of the best teachers at UofR who genuinely cares about not only what he's teaching but also his students. He is very accessible outside of class. BIOL110 is a pretty easy class overall and shouldn't be too much of a struggle.
Absolutely, Greatest Of All Time. Every single lectures were clear and precise. But be aware, you should put all your effort to get your desired grade. He requires students a lot more than just an Introductory Biology. Exam gradings are super harsh. If you do not have strong base in Biological knowledge, it will be hard for you to make it through.
very funny and good in lectures. would recommend
Best professor by far at UofR. His lectures are very precise, clear, and informative. Go to lectures and rewatch lectures before the exam (super helpful when I did it). Clark likes to tell students what to pay close attention to for the exams so go to lectures! Workshops are also very helpful. Could be hard if you don't study well!
Hands down the GOAT. The University is fortunate to have such a great professor teaching Gen Bio as it makes the transition from high school to college much easier. We (the class of 2027) love this man.
No homework, no materials for exams, I just could not catch up on what he was teaching. I won't recommend taking BIO110 in the university. It actually sucks.
Professor Clark is a standout in the department. His lectures are clear and engaging - go to class and watch the recordings before exams. The material is challenging, but using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helped me ace this course.
Dr. Clark is an amazing and extremely understanding professor. A very empathetic guy that I wish I could have again. He has office hours every single day and sometimes twice a day. He goes out of his way to help students who demonstrate they want the help. This is a great introductory course experience and I wish that he would teach upper level.
Clark is great! He means it when he says he gives a lot of As- the wording on his test is a little tricky, but if you study, you will get used to it and be just fine.
Professor Clark's lectures are clear, interesting, and up-to-date. He has office hours multiple times a week and makes an effort to remember the names and majors of everyone who shows up regularly. Tests aren't easy and require you to know the material well, but going to workshop and office hours makes them much more manageable. Loved the class!
Best intro professor, no HW at all, there's office hour almost every weekday, if that's not enough, go to weekly study session and review sessions before exams. TAs are also really accessible. Material is basic and sometimes it does require a little prior knowledge, but you can always find help if you get confused.
Gives very good, clear, and engaging lectures. He gives a few pop quizzes throughout the semester for attendance but they were easy and he goes over the topics in that lecture. The weekly workshops were very helpful and there were many resources for help outside of lectures.
This class doesn't have homework, so it's easy to let it fall on the back burner among other classes. Just set aside time to study, and it's not too bad. Professor Clark is very engaging and clearly wants his students to succeed. Definitely recommend attending his office hours and actively participating in workshops to be prepared for exams.
Know lecture content and you will get an A! As long as you put in the effort you will be fine.
He is amazing, there's no take home assignment and usually you just need to work on past exams to get a easy A, attendance is not mandatory but he uses random quizs to make sure you attend every class btw he is very accessible and funny out the class, be free to attend his office hours
I had no bio experience, so the class was pretty hard for me. I had to do a lot of studying and extra work to understand what was happening (he expects you to have prior knowledge for his class), but it's very doable if you try. He repeats past exam questions and workshops in his actual tests, so study for that. Engaging and a great professor!
I love Dr. Clark he's literally sent from heaven
Looooove Dr. Clark. He gives really good lectures, no homework (for bio 110) and really willing to help students. Also very caring.
Does not manage his TA's well, they tended to be extremely harsh but no one could get points back because his answer keys were very confusing. Also much of the content stressed in class was not even mentioned on tests and it was hard to do well because no one knew what to study. He curved every test when I took this class due to low grades.
Clark is actually hands down the best professor at this school. Lectures were very clear and straight-forward. If you did not understand anything from them, you could always go to office hours or ask TA's for more clarity. Clark is the absolute goat. Also super down to earth
He really wants his students to do the best they can. His exams do very in difficulty, some were easy and others not. I highly recommend doing ALL of his past exams as he does reuse questions sometimes, or you will see a similar question/same format on the actual exam. His lectures are quite long and a lot of info at once. Study for a week for exam
He is an excellent professor, and I really wish he could teach more courses.
The BEST professor ever!!! absolutely love him. Lectures were amazing and fun, the slides had everything you need to know on them, super easy A. I went back just to sit in one of his lectures after I transferred to another uni, that's how good he is.
Pray. If you're an atheist, pick a religion and start praying.
I truly love him as a professor and lowkey feel so guilty that I am just NOT good at this class. I personally am not a good test taker, and this class is almost solely graded on tests, some of which were very difficult. I do have to say though, me doing mid is not his fault, he is a great teacher, I am just a bad test taker.
Goat professor, easy exams, good lecturing, pretty easy to find after class. I wish he taught genetics as well.
great intro bio class! his exams are pretty straightforward and he loves to reuse practice questions he provides on blackboard. workshops are pretty helpful and are also work for word on exams. some TAs will be the most useless you will ever meet and grade stricter than the actual rubric so check if u can regrade
Loved Clark's lectures, they were so interesting. Highly recommend going to all of them and asking questions. He's super accessible outside class during office hours, so make sure you go. As long as you go through lectures and conceptualize big ideas, you will be fine.
Yaps a lot it might be easier to just watch his lecture videos he's nice and easy to talk to
