I really hated writing and thought I was going to hate this class. But he made it fun and was always helpful.
He was a great professor! We wrote four total papers and he spaced them out so we all had enough time to really think through our thoughts. All in all, this was definitely my favorite class this semester. He made it enjoyable to go to class.
Critzer was awesome. He prepared us so well for each assignment that they were no big deal when they were due. He also made class fun with different videos and excercises.
Professor Critzer is a great guy and good professor. His class is extremely laid-back, and he's absolutely dedicated to making sure you enjoy the writing you're doing. You always get to pick your topics. I wrote about my favorite music video and got an A on the paper. Definitely a straight-forward and enjoyable GenEd. Take it!
Professor Critzer was so great. I was crushin on him all semester. He gives you so many chances to revise papers, that it's easy to get an A too!
Mr. Critzer is awesome!! I have no idea how you would not like him as a professor. He is extremely easy with his grading. I got an A on every assignment and I'm not even good at writing. He also lets you re-do your papers to earn a better grade and you always get to pick your own topic. I would highly reccomend him!
This is the best professor I have ever had!! He is really clear about instructions, and grades pretty well. The thing I loved about him is you get multiple chances to receive a good grade on one essay. (You turn in it about 3 times) He used a lot of media and music in the classroom. Best teacher I have ever had!!!!
easiest class of the semester. I didn't receive anything below a 100 on any of my papers and they were by no means perfect papers. definitely take him!
Best professor of the semester. Never talked down to students and made class fun. I've heard horror stories about other gwrtc classes. Take professor critzer!
Never got above a C on a paper in high school. Got A's on all of his papers. enough said.
You do so many drafts, it's almost impossible to get less than an A. He's a great guy and he made class fun.
Michael is a great guy. Tons of people give him good ratings just because its a pretty easy class, but it definitely goes beyond that. Hes extremely knowledge and constructively helpful on your writing. And he uses tons of media and music in class to keep it interesting. Great guy, great professor, great class. Definitely take it.
TAKE HIM~! Not only is this class an easy A but you will learn a lot also. He collects rough drafts for every essay, makes corrections and you will get a 100 if you make the corrections and can resubmit for a higher grade. Love this guy and his class,he understands that everyone is not an amazing writer, and is really flexible and willing to help.
literally the best. not only is the class super easy- almost impossible not to get 100%- but it's interesting. I really enjoyed coming to this class. He is absolutely amazing, funny, nice and it would be a mistake not to take him
Best teacher ever! take him! he is super cool and the free-writes and essays are easy and he helps you so much if you need it
AMAZING. He makes every class interesting and a really nice guy. Very clear what he wants and if you follow what he says you will get an A. Had other GWRTC professors hes the best teacher at JMU
Class is so fun because he is a professor who actually makes it relative to our lives and includes topics we like. It's very easy to do well, but you learn so much too. Four papers, which I got 100 on every single one after her revised them. Come to class, make his revisions and you will get an A guaranteed. TAKE CRITZER TRUST ME YOU WILL LOVE HIM!
Professor Critzer is the best teacher I've ever had, really cool to get along with. It didn't feel like a class, but my writing improved a ton.
By far the best gwrtc professor you will ever get. No book, no tests. He is a quirky dude but his class is awesome. His 8 AM class is great and that says a lot. If you can, take his class.
he is such a great guy! I have his class at 8 am and he never fails to keep us engaged. He is funny and his class is super easy! Only 4 papers that are interesting and on topics that you can relate to. TAKE HIM!
Best writing class professor. I am an international student, he is very helpful. Even though i am not good for writing, he gave me A for every essay. Chooses he.
LOVE PROFESSOR CRITZER!! TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!
Professor Critzer is awesome! He's easy to get along with and will help you with any question you have. You watch videos and do easy free-writes in class. You write 4 essays, but they aren't difficult and you can write about anything you want. This is my easiest and least stressful class. also, he loves super heroes and video games... a lot
He is awesome! He is willing to help you with anything and very easy to talk to! Classes are pretty interesting and you do easy free writes each class. I would definitely recommend taking this class!
Prof. Critzer is very easy going and easy to get along with! If you try your best and actually do your work on time you should have NOOOO problem getting an A in the class! I would reccomend him to ANYONE! Enjoyed his class and wish I could have him every semester.
Critzer is the man. Got an A in is class despite missing 3 of his classes (policy is miss 2, every one ever that is 10 points off your grade). He is so laid back and chill, even at 8 in the morning when I had him. Best professor I have had at JMU. TAKE CRITZER!! (:
Michael is the best! He knows the class is a freshman gen-ed meant to give you a better idea on how to write now that you're in college, so he doesn't make it boring or difficult. Also no textbook! He digs creative writing, superhero lore, PS3, and letting you know if class is cancelled because of unfavorable weather. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN.
Professor Critzer is a really cool guy and the class is easy and interesting. He is clearly very passionate about the subject. There are 2 papers and a final that is just essay questions (take home) he is a very easy grader. He just wants you to connect with the material and actually enjoy a class for once. Take him!
Mr. Critzer is the bomb dot com. If you are a geek at heart, as I am, you will find his class to be a delight. Plus it's super easy, as a gen ed should be.
this class is, 'stupid easy" to get an a in. you essentially get 2 time to revise a paper, once after the rough draft and once after you get the grade back. WARNING- he LOVES the hero stories and you will find him talking about superman and stuff a bit, as long has you dont mind superheros, it wont be bad. a total of 4 papers and NO FINAL.
Took him for heroes class, loved it! Class was always interesting, and I loved going there. Need to post discussion for each class, but not bad. Essays were pretty easy too and he helps you find a topic if you need it. Had to read a few books though.
No tests Loves superheroes Ends each class with a little writing prompt
This class was mandatory but he made it super interesting. If you like superheroes definitely take this class and if not still take it! I got 100s on every single paper. As long as you show an interest and try there is no way you can get anything less than an A
No tests in this class. About 4 essays total and a blog post due every week. Great teacher who loves superheroes. He looks over your rough drafts for the essays and gives good feedback. You're then allowed to correct it and turn it in. I've gotten an A on each of my essays.
He's the man. He's a really nice guy but cares about his students. There are 4 essays throughout the semester and zero tests. He grades real easily. He has you write a rough draft and he edits it and gives you feedback. Most people in my class received an A. I highly suggest you take his course.
Critzer is the man! I highly recommend WRTC 103 with him. 4 essays and no tests/quizzes/final. He also has a 4 unexcused absence policy which comes in handy sometimes. Critter makes class interesting and is great with explaining things. Always willing to help, and will guide you through your essay writing!
No tests, but quite a few papers Not a hard grader and will help you when you have a conference with him Very nice and understanding Loves comics/superheroes and will incorporate them into class every day He is good at what he teaches
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I strongly recommend taking him, this was by far the easiest class I've taken. He really loves superheroes, so we watched the Avengers in class. He assigns a few papers throughout the semester, but he is an extremely easy grader. Also makes you manage a blog that you post on every week. Pretty much show up and get a free A.
Critzer is not only my favorite professor, but might be my favorite teacher ever! He's funny and tries to keep class interesting. The whole class was centered around Disney and superheroes, so we watched movies and clips relating to those which was awesome! If you end this class with anything less than a 100%, then you probably never showed up.
This is a very straightforward class. Just do the assigned work (there isn't much) and you'll get an A. You write a few essays during the year, which you can revise after you receive a grade. If you don't get a 100% on each paper then you're just lazy. I enjoyed his lectures; he is a very interesting man. Overall, this was a great gen ed.
Michael is one of my favorite professors from my first semester. There are 4 papers and he tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A on everyone of them. He is really nice and he tries to put humor into his lectures because he knows that it is a required course. If I could I would take another class with him as the professor. TAKE HIM!
Critzer is the best way to go fro GWRTC103. There are 4 papers all year (no final) and he gives you so much time to rework and revise your paper, its impossible not to get an A. Loves super heros and most of the class revolves around the hero's journey, and a short blog post is due almost every week. High recommend!!!!!
I love Prof. Critzer. He is very easy-going and makes the class enjoyable. Four papers during the semester, but gives ample time to revise each to raise your grade. Getting an A is no problem. Blog posts are due every week, but they are pretty open-ended. I would most definitely take this class again!
I choose clear grading criteria, because there really isn't any. You have 4 papers, you do a rough draft, he makes a couple marks, you fix them and hand it in as your final. Got 100s on all, if you didn't you had a week to fix it. I don't think he could have made the class easier. Do the papers and you'll get a 100.
Take him! He gives two chances for every essay so if you turn it in then you'll get an 100%. Lets you choose whatever topics for the papers, all very short papers 3-5 pages. He loves super heros, comics, and alien documentaries, classes are always easy and fun. Easy A.
Not only is this class an easy A, this class is an easy 100%. He gives you unlimited chances to get a perfect score on all of your essay's. If you don't get an A, let alone a 100%, I question not only how you got into JMU but how you graduated from high school. The assignments just have to be done, they don't even have to be done well. TAKE HIM.
Writing teachers are a swing or miss. Critzer may be the best professor to take. Barely any homework, one essay every 3-4 weeks, gives you a chance to FIX your essay if you mess up. Overall, awesome class.
Critzer is the best! you have 4 papers and a chance to fix your papers. he tells you what you need to do to get an A! He loves superheros and comics, which makes the class fun. the essays are based on whatever you want to write on. very helpful!! and 9 out 10 tines he will let class out really early. TAKE HIM!!!!
I am in love with Michael Critzer! He is the BEST prof ever, he's such a nerd but it's so great. He actually gives a sh*t and wants you to care about a subject rather than worry about passing tests. So easy, so inspirational and amazing. I looked forward to this class all the time even from 5:00pm-6:15pm. I'm genuinely so upset it's over! Take him!
The class is extremely easy. We were given only 4 essays throughout the semester, however the semester just ended and I still only know my grade for the first essay.
Super easy class and easy A. Just show up to class and do what he tells you which is very little and you should walk away with an A. The guys super nice and down to earth.
This is the best teacher you could take for wrtc103! He lets you resubmit your papers and gives great feedback so it's easy to get a good mark. He always lets class out early and doesn't give a lot of homework.
Critzer's class was the BEST because you not only learn, but it's the easiest A you'll ever make in any class. He always lets you out early, and you get to pick what you write your papers on. Super easy grader, he tells you exactly what you need to fix to get a 100. You'd be crazy not to take him!!
Honestly the best professor I've ever had. Easy A class, funny, and he's basically just a huge nerd. I had already learned a lot of what he taught in high school, so his class was a breeze. Only about 3 papers to write and they were always under 5 pages. Best guy ever
Michael Critzer is one of the easiest teachers I've ever had my entire life. He is super laid back and chill and will never make you feel bad. He's passionate about super heroes so be prepared to write and learn about the hero's journey. Barely any HW, a few easy papers, no tests, this class is a breeze.
I'm sitting in our last class of the semester and I'm about to tear up. Easily my favorite teacher I've ever had (I'm about to graduate). He really gets you interested in the material. I have learned so much more in this class than a lot of my major classes (BIO) just because he got his students to really care and be invested in the material. 10/10
Amazing professor knows what he is talking about and makes the class fun. He does not give much homework at all, and all essays he gives you a chance to draft and review. Take him if you can.
Critzer is a great professor! You will have to create a blog and blog several times throughout the semester but you only have four papers which are all easy and you get three chances for your grade. Definitely recommend!!!
Take this professor! He is the nicest guys and cares a lot about his students. He loves to talk about comics and wants everyone to get an easy A.
At the beginning of the semester he wrote easy A in big letters on the white board. 'nuff said, take him.
Critzer is awesome!! gives so many chances on papers that it's impossible not to get an A in the class. TAKE HIM
By far my favorite professor from my first semester at JMU! TAKE HIS CLASS!! Always lets out early, four papers in the entire semester, no tests/quizzes, no final, he tells you exactly what he wants on revisions in order for you to get a 100. EASIEST A!! Also, he's super chill and funny! I'm definitely retaking this professor for HUM!
such a great guy! the man will blow your mind on how in depth he goes with such easy topics. There is only 4 paper and he tell you exactly what he wants to write and you get an A. Funny and laid back man. Such a great professor!
There aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe how amazing professor Crtizer is. I'm a freshman and I was lucky enough to get into his HUM 200 (a class that EVERYBODY wants w/ him) and I'm so happy I did. This class is very enjoyable and it's about really interesting topics/books. I would love to take another class with him! TAKE HIM!
Critzer is the man. He is an entertaining teacher and you will read interesting books. Not much work, but it's hard to get into this class, so enjoy it if you can get in it.
Honestly he's just an incredible human being and is so passionate about what he lectures. He is so understanding about everything. Also, we just watch a lot of movies in class and learn about superheroes. Papers were easy, no quizzes just a take home final, and you have to do blog posts. The BEST professor I've had at JMU. Good luck getting a spot.
Took him for a gen ed and as someone who is not much of a writing person I came in skeptical, but the class was super easy. Hes a super nice guy and really wants you to get a good grade. We only wrote 4 actual papers the whole semester and he doesn't grade hard at all. I would absolutely recommend his class!
As a network engineer I never foresaw myself analyzing super-heroes, however I am grateful I had the opportunity to do so. Simply put, this class was amazing an amazing way to end Senior year - Frequently watched movies in class, homework is reading comic books, and regularly let out of class early. Hilarious professor who is extremely passionate!
has to be the easiest class on the face of the earth. pretty much got an a on everything with little effort at all. supper easy.
I dreaded taking a literature class because I hate both reading and writing but this was the best class I could've taken. Professor let's you revise your essay to earn up to a 100 and superhero movies are watched frequently in class. Such a fun and easy going professor. Allowed to miss up to four classes. TAKE HIM!!!
Honestly this dude was an amazing teacher. For every paper, you write a rough draft and then conferences with you to actually help you learn. Super easy, plus he equates everything to superheroes. Chill dude who is actually willing to help and communicate with you. It's an easy A, and there is no final. Legit even cancelled class after Halloweekend
Yes this class was very easy and interesting. But overall it was not fair. I admit to being an overachiever, so it was devastating when I would put so much work into an assignment and receive the exact same grade as someone else who didnt work as hard.
This class was so easy!! There are only 4 essays of varying lengths, you submit a rough draft, final and then can submit the essay after corrections again for up to 100%! Easy A - only work is writing a blog post related to the class most weeks and the essays. He is super chill!
amazing professor. super easy grader and funny. He really loves marvel, and he even has his own youtube. You have four papers that are pretty easy. You always have in class peer reviews then he gives you his feedback and you have a chance to get a 100. there's no reading like other professors. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Class was easy but got a little awkward when hed whine about superheroes like a seven years old. Highly recommend for an easy A
Easy A! But lectures get repetitive and contradictory
Hes passionate about what he does but he seems to dance around ideas different than his own. The superhero theme is cool.
Fine class and easy enough. cant ever find a point behind some of the things we read and watch other than just things to read and watch.
BEST JMU PROFESSOR EVER! He is a great 103 professor. 3 papers no tests! Easy A and not a harsh grader. We watched the avengers one class and just had to write about a superhero in it. He is funny and easy to talk to. He writes his own comics and shows them to the class. Honestly, a really good class to help get settled in JMU as a freshman.
He is a funny and great professor. Most of his work is about superheroes.
Nice enough professor but its hard sometimes to not tell him to grow up. Never really had any sophisticated lectures about topics that matter.
One of my favorite professors so far. He handled going online very smoothly and was very understanding considering the circumstances surrounding. Teaches you how to write, but does it in a very entertaining context (superheroes as said by others). Anytime I heard what other writing professors were doing I was so grateful for his class. TAKE HIM.
He is a great teacher that is passionate about the what he teaches. The best thing about it is that he is great at responding to emails and lets you make up work and make revisions on essays. Would recommend to any person for a writing class.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Professor Critzer is literally the best. I took this class because of how good his rating on this website was. And you know what? It lived up to the hype. Even though this semester was mostly online, it was still great. I wish I could take it again. You do the work, you get an A. Simple as that.
This professor is the easiest one you could take for wrtc 103. There were 4 papers total, I got an A on every single one. No final and no midterm, no tests at all, just activities sometimes.
Okhe is an easy and pretty cool guy, but placing him on the level of a great professor is a little hard. He grades easily and gives some good suggestions, but I didnt feel like I was getting the proper feedback in order to enhance my writing skills. I went to a prep school and my expectations are high, so I really wasnt properly challenged.
Class was easy. Wouldve liked to have more discussion because lectures were all his interpretations.
While the class was easy and funny (not ha ha funny but funny in what is talked about) a lot of the approaches were primeval without any openings for interpretations based on personal experience. I think most everyone liked the class, but I felt awkward speaking up about things I felt he didnt want to hear.
Awesome professor, learned a lot and it's an easy A if you do the work. No tests just papers. If you don't do well on the paper you can revise it up to two times. Highly recommend if you get the chance to take him.
If you like Star Wars, this class is for you. I loved Critzer, but every essay we wrote was about Star Wars! I enjoyed it by the end, but if you're not a Star Wars fan, this might not be the class for you. Overall, super easy class & Critzer is a fair grader.
Super nice guy that teaches the course well and is very respectful. There are a couple papers you have to write as per Writing class but they aren't very hard. Just pay attention to the class and stay on top of the blog posts/assignments and you should be golden.
3 papers and weekly blog posts and assignments building up to the papers, very easy
Participation in modules and assignments is important, but he's a pretty easy grader on papers, and you only do four short essays in a semester.
really easy A! he starts off the class saying that. All you have to do is do all the work and it isn't even bad. a couple papers but he lets u draft and revise them. if you submit your draft you have a higher chance of an A on the final draft. he loves marvel so the class papers are usually based off movies.
Really should not be teaching a writing class since all he talks about is superheroes. Some of his opinions that he makes very clear are a little disturbing for a class that is supposed to be an open place.
If you can take him, please do. I put about 3 hours of work into our papers (the main grades) and the only other graded work is discussion posts that take about 15 minutes to do (only 1 per week) and I have a 100 in this class. Do not need to pay attention to lectures to do well. He is a great guy and is very lenient with grades if you do the work.
There are 4 papers in this class, and they all revolve around the Hero's Journey. The pages required for each essay vary (the final paper needs at least 5 pages while the others need around 2-3), but double-spacing saves lives. If you like writing essays, I would recommend this class. Some may find it irritating due to the superhero themes though.
Loves to hear himself talk about his superheroes and how he wishes he can be one. His thoughts on college life are very childish and he is a little backwards in his thinking.
Huge marvel fan and almost everything he teaches, he relates back to super heroes. Theres only 4 papers which are not difficult and then blog posts once a week which are graded on participation. You just got to do the bare minimum to get a A so idk why anyone would rate him poorly. even if you don't like Marvel, its an easy class as long as you try
Class setup: blog posts(you create and respond every week, can be about anything but most people write about whatever we are discussing in class, when creating it is 250 words and responding is 100), 4 essays(if you turn in a rough draft you will get comments and have the chance to revise one week after you get the final grade for a second chance)
A basement dwelling pseudo intellectual that hands out super high grades so we will worship him like the superheroes he worships. I am shocked that such a child would be in charge of a college class.
Best writing professor I have ever had. His lectures are interesting because he incorporates superheros and marvel movies. The writings are easy because they build off the topics from the beginning of the semester, so you rarely have to write about a brand new topic. Easy A as long as you follow directions and are not waiting till the last minute.
Honestly, this man changed my perspective on writing, he really is an amazing professor. Would highly recommend taking one of his classes!
He is awesome! If you like Marvel movies, this class will be a breeze. All the papers are on marvel movies and that's literally the only homework. Allows you to send a draft of each essay and will tell you everything you need to do to get a 100. He's funny and his class is so much fun even though it's online. I would 100% take him again.
If you're into Marvel, you will love this class. Even if you don't (like me), it's still pretty interesting. His essays take time, like any other essay, but he allows you to submit a draft and tells you what you need to do to get a 100%. I've literally gotten a 100% on every essay just by following his feedback. Super simple class.
If you're a student who likes superheroes and want to get a gen-ed out of the way, take Professor Critzer. If not, maybe avoid it. With that being said he was a great teacher and definitely makes it clear what you need to do to get an A. All you need to do to get an A is just simply do the work. He is not a tough grader so you'll get it.
He was ok. The work is straightforward, and an easy A, but he never had class and was lousy with his teaching. It's not a lot of assignments, and he does make you write about superheroes all year, which is difficult because there isn't any "sources" other than blog posts.
Like everyone says, you write about super heros all year. We did a rhetorical analysis and an argumentative paper both about super heros and there are not many sources. What people didn't mention is that he cancels every other class at 2am so you never know. He is very easy with late work, but makes his opinions very clear in class.
He doesn't space out his assignments very well. The Tuesday that Fall Break started, we had 4 assignments due by midnight including a paper, and another paper due the first class after break. He assigned us a "cover letter" and only gave 2 days to do it on top of a paper and other classwork. The work isn't usually that hard, but theres a lot of it.
Definetly an easy A class and he is a super easy grader! He does have weekly assignments but they're super quick and easy! The only reason I got a B was because I missed an assignment so, if you do all of the assignments you are pretty much guarenteed an A!
He's an interesting guy. Yeah, he talks a lot about superheroes but the theme of this course if "The Hero's Journey" so its kinda a given. He doesn't accept late work, with nearly no exceptions, but is always willing to give an extension. I was online and he often just didn't host class and instead posted stuff online. A lot of writing but expected
Does not do much as a teacher so the class is easy. He says some socially uncomfortable things about certain minorities on the occasions when we have a class. I would have learned more if the class was in person.
Best prof I've ever had. Super funny guy, super down to earth. So understanding! Little work, just a few blogs every week and a few papers (which are short, easy topics, and he gives you feedback before to get an A.) Idk what some of these reviews r saying about this class. Easiest A ever. Awesome guy super sweet take this class!!!
Easiest A of my life. Class was frequently cancelled, and this course was essentially asynchronous by the end of the semester. Assignments are low-effort, I spent an hour max on this class each week. Keep an eye on deadlines and don't fall behind on the work.
A fun Marvel-themed class with an easy grader. Lots of writing assignments, but the professor provides great feedback to help you succeed. I found Unstuck study super helpful for essay prep.
Easiest gen ed ever. Professor Critzer is great. There's usually a simple 1-2 paragraph assignment and a canvas quiz due each week or every 2 weeks and only 2, 3-5 page papers for the entire semester which are graded very lightly. Live lectures usually only occur once a week and last for like 15 minutes at most. Some weeks its totally asynchronous.
The class is super easy but pointless. It could be interesting but the professor wants to reminisce about his childhood and the good old days of his nerdy youth. This makes things hard because he really hates anything new that I am familiar with and able to write about.
Literally the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. Just do the essay, submit before the due date, and you'll most likely get full credit. Professor is a nerd so most essays will probably be related to superheroes. Keep an eye on due dates as they're kinda random, some may be at 11:59 while others could be in the middle of the day. Take it!
Really strange guy. He has a youtube where he complains about "wokeness" and people becoming too feminine. Had a strange tirade about workplace harassment. Just weird vibes man, easy class, but weird vibes, and seems to live stream his office hours on youtube? Idk man
The class is very easy…a little too easy imo. But overall he is just weird. Especially by the things he says. But you really don't need to listen to the things he says for an assignment. You'll automatically get an a which is great but he himself is so very weird.
