Weak on the theory. Arrogant and conceited.
If you show up to class and do the work you should have no problem passing. He will help if you ask, but he will not offer it up. Gives alot of examples in class. Nice guy.

A good guy. Take good notes and do the HW and you will be fine.
I thought the class was pretty tough. He drops 1 of the 4 tests and there is a cumulative final. You have to study the book a lot. The labs were easy and it's easy to get a good grade on them.
didn't make things clear, but still acceptable
Do the Homework, ask questions in Problem Solving and take notes. His tests are tough, but he doesn't ask anything that you havn't been exposed to in lecture or in home work. Funny Guy.
Physics is generally a very boring subject... he just makes it worst. Test were way to hard. Do your labs they help a lot.
He's a nice guy, and is very funny--but his class is incredibly hard. Be prepared to do LOTS and LOTS of HW problems(I mean seriously a booklet worth of problems).I took a comparable physics course at a 4-year university that was easier than this. It is--VERY EASY--I repeat--VERY EASY to fail.
Great physics teacher. Made the teacher student relationship personal by knowing each student. The class material is extremely hard, however, don't be fooled. One can find themselves failing this class very easinly. Problem Solving is very helpful with the material and tests.
Don't take him. A very hard TEACHER, expects you to do lots of work in very small amount of time. More than 3/4 of the students taking him are failing because of his strictly rules.
The hardest class I've taken at Mesa. Do not take his class unless this is your only class,he certainly assigns homework assuming that. Tests impossible. Overall, his expectations of his students are unrealistic.
Opinionated and conceited. I got an A in the class but not due to any effort on his part. Memorization of formulas and mechanical techniques worked best on tests. Stress on application of physical principles in problem analysis would have been much better for us. My 196b instructor is much better.
Awsome teacher.Very clear and uses demos during lectures.Class time is very productive.HW is about 20 probs per chapter but it's all worth it.Problem solving helps. He knows what he's doing and has great techniquies for teaching. He's the best!
Great teacher. I would take him for all of my physics if I could. Fairly easy to get an "A" as almost all of his problems have either been worked out in class or are fairly basic conceptual questions. However, if you are not a "math" person then you are not a "physics" person either, and will have trouble with any teacher.
He's a dick. He makes it difficult to ask questions. He does a lot of good in class experiments. He explains the physics well. He thinks he's a physics god, coming from a jr college professor that got his bachelors from san diego state. If your interested in physics better to take the course at one of the four year universities.
calling him a "dick" is pretty stong. I would never go that far. His job is not only to teach, but to help people understand a difficult subject - which he does pretty good.
Apparently he thinks hes funny, well hes not at all. He doesnt know how to teach, never goes over tests, even if half the class is failing them, he wont answer questions, hes just a square.

he is the worse teacher that i ever had.... he is hard as f u c k and he thinks he is very funny since he is not. and the tests were extremely hard in another words if u want to get a f in physic class then take him.... some body should talk to him and ask him y is he sooo freaking ugly. he really enjoys people being miserable in their life.
Difficult teacher, even more difficult tests. But you will get a great feeling of physics afterwards, plus you can pass the class easily if you do the hw and labs and come to class. The previous person needed to put in more effort
he is very hard. he is a devil and his test r soo freaking hard. i wish i was takhing different teacher for physic because that way i would know that i will get at least a B in the class how ever, right now i don't even know what i am going to get in the classs and i might even fail the class. hardddd harddd dont take his classs.
He is a master of weird person with bald head. I have never seen a teacher want to push his/her students down like him. He is vey strict, he will lock a door to leave students outside if students come class late even 5 minutes
You all sound like the whiners in my lab group! What did you expect from a science class? Easy stuff? I failed the first exam but then did better! Just go to class. From your poor grammar and english it appears that you are not qualified to even judge this professor. When I asked him a question, he helped me always.
Both his class and tests are hard. Also, he assigns a lot of homework. This is a demanding class. However, Mike is always available to help students and will bend over backwards to do so. If you can get over his seemily arrogant ways, you'll realize he's quite a nice guy and genuinely interested in helping his students be successful.
he is a nice n helpful teacher. the tests are tricky and kinda hard, but if u study hard n do all of his assignments (hw n lab), u will definitely pass this class. u cant pass this class if u just sit around n hope miracles.STUDY HARD! he teaches quite well n do some experiments in front of the class.cool! i miss his class.
I took him a while back. He does come off arrogant. His lectures are pretty good. It was hard to ask him questions because he sometimes would intimidate you. I didn't particularly like him but I would take his course again. The course was challenging but with the right attitude and work ethic an A is obtainable just make sure you hve good lab prtnr
He is nice and useful professor. His solving problems' class is very useful. He is willing to answer any questions, and he will explain them until you understand them. Take him if you want to explore the interesting things of physcis
Mr. Crivello requires to do homeworks. Do your homeworks, lab is easy A, test is hard however doable if you study and concentrate on the question, give bonus problems. I got an A in his class. There are 3 test and 1 final. His lecture is based on his notes. Well explaining. take him.
Mr. Crivello is a helpful teacher, although sometimes he explains concepts as if you should already know them. Takes his time & does experiements; is not terribly funny or exciting, but knows his material well. His lectures are somewhat dry, but to the point I guess. I find his tests & labs easy, although lots of homework is due. Not a bad teacher.
He works very hard to make this class do-able. He gave us one test to take home, and a portion of another to work on outside class. Final exam is ****ulative, but only worth 15% of grade. It's just a really hard class. The labs are pretty interesting.
i took him a while back, i got a b in his class. but i do not recommend anybody to take him. his exams are super hard. his lecture was boring and his lab was so horrible
You learn a lot from taking this professor. Very good at teaching the material. Exams can be on the tricky side. The only way to prepare for his exams is to study your freaking butt off. Tons of homework problems assigned every 1 or 2 weeks. All that aside, he is an excellent teacher for mechanics.
He is very nice and will help you if you askd him. He always nice to students. Hard class but fun with him.
Mr. C is very nice to the class(and our lab group). You can always talk to him about any thing. He is fun to be in class. He treats us with respect and always can help you if you need help.
He was very nice to us and our lab group. He always helped us when I got hung up on a homework problem. He is very friendly and will take to time to learn your name!
Excellent teacher. He puts a lot of effort in to his lectures and always explains topics very well. He moves fast but the pace is necessary because of the amount of information that has to be covered. He offers an extra credit question on every test. I would recommend taking him, but be prepared to put some time into homework.
Test's are very HARD. You MUST UNDERSTAND HOMEWORK. More importantly of getting a good grade is LABS,HOMEWORK,and going to class everyday. Do well on at least 2 test's. He's a good professor but his problem's are more complex than the book. Very Nice guy. Our Class got one extra credit problem worth 20 test points. That helped me out in this class.
Physics is a difficult subject and takes lots of practice solving problems. Tests are only 45% of grade (drops 1)and hw was 15%. He tries to be funny but just comes off as a **** lots of the time. He is not very clear about the schedule so make sure to keep track of your grade because he wont compute it for you. loathed him but still got a B.
He was my teacher when I went to Mesa. I am now a working Engineer (Mechanical) and now appreciate how hard he made us work (lots of homework!). After reading a bunch of these comments, it sounds like you think engineering will be easy. Duh? What did you expect? It's a hard class that requires a bunch of time and work. Great class!
He is a great professor. The subject is hard but he makes it understandable. If you need help he is there for you, just ask. If I could, I would take him for 196. Just do everything he asks and you will get a good grade.
I got an A! Great class, lotsa work. Cool prof!
he is a good guy, and is very clear about everything but his tests are very hard, and there is lots of homework, if u take it with him do all the homework and labs, and study hard for the test.
Engineers and physics majors: you want this guy. He breaks down a difficult subject very thoroughly. Tests are about 60% conceptual and 40% with numbers. He assigns a lot of homework, and will demand a lot of your time, but you'll be very solid with physics if you take him. One of the most helpful professors I've ever met.
Great proffessor. Its a hard class but he makes you work hard and can help you get a good grade. Lectures are fun and clear.
It was a hard class.
You must follow his homework format and his lab format to get full credit on assignments. His tests are hard, but if you do the homework and understand it, you'll be ok.
Not so easy, but a fun class to learn alot! He's very sweet.
Mike keeps it real. Physics is tough for those who don't like work. Homework format prepares you for further sciences/math levels. labs are a breeze. lecture is unbelievably good. He enjoys making class exciting early in the morning. If you think he's unreasonable take Tom Teegarden for Calc III. He makes Mike seem like a piece of cake!
Homework was bad prep for tests. He did problems wrong on the board, some of the answer keys were wrong. He is generous with homework points. Half of the class failed tests 1&2. I have never seen so many angry students before. My friend who took a year of general physics at UCSD was amazed at how hard the tests were when I showed them to her.
Quite possibly the greatest professor I've ever had. I was really nervous at first with no prior physics experience, but he is an excellent teacher! Lectures are both informational and interesting, and his demos help clarify concepts. Labs are pretty easy. Study for tests. They're very straighforward, mostly multiple choice. Highly recommended!
He was good for physics 125 but really hard for 195. The test were EXTREMELY hard!!! Like nothing you have seen or done in class. He can be very serious and moody at times. He also is not very helpful always tells u to refer to the book......
Physics is tough, physics with Crivello is impossible. He is extremely picky and marks off for everything. He is also not really helpful and tries to avoid questions. Really hard test not challenging just extremely hard. I heard at least Mona gives you some extra credit .
Avoid!!! by the end of the semester half the class has dropped! Also he is very condescending, but will avoid helping you take someone else!
He is arrogant and very condescending! He expects alot!!! There is alot of work but the hard thing about this class is that the work is near impossible! He is extremely hard and does not curve or help our ur grade at all! I worked really hard I got a tutor cause he never helps and I think I will end up with a C-
tough class take another professor if possible! he is helpful but his test a impossible extremely picky on format
The homework is deceivingly easy.Test questions are very complicated and will be like nothing you've seen on the homework.
Crivello provides no feedback or explanation as to why a sub par grade was received. A lack of communication on Crivello's part. How are suppose to know exactly what we need to improve on if it's left up to your student...Prof. Crivello, it may be detrimental, even if time...remember you, at some point, were a student also
OMG really hard class you will study you but off! His test are really hard and does not compensate for them. After reading reviews written like 2 years ago this man has changed for the worse!
This guy is a real jerk, and the material becomes increasingly harder and harder. He has a very strict grading format. Tests are not an accurate representation of the homework. He will decrease your grade by a letter grade if you miss class 4x, even if its a medical or personal issue.
Do not take! Take another professor if possible. Material is tough but crivello makes it much more difficult.
When 80% of the class is failing that should be an refection on his teaching method. Don't believe me our grades are listed on his office door.
Don't take his class if you want to keep a good GPA. At first, the class was full, towards the end, there were less than half enrolled. He's picky about everything esp the HW format and marks you down if you forget something.
Avoid if possible! I understand physics is hard but Professor Crivello does little to make it seem more understandable instead he takes pride in marking down for neatness. He also is a very hard grader does not know how to correctly grade. He takes off alot of points for stupid reasons. My advice take another professor
I took Mr. Crivello last semester and I'm glad I did. He was very helpful and would try his best to answer your questions during class. He is a harsh grader and he assigns A LOT of homework. But the homework was helpful. My advice is to get in a study group, do the hw, take adventage of the practice quizzes, and do the extra credit and you got an A
Don't be mislead by the negative comments, he's an excellent professor. The class isn't easy, but his lectures are very clear and he doesn't test you on anything he doesn't teach you. Extra Credit on each exam and a possible 30% extra credit on the final. As long as you pay attention and do the HW you'll be fine. Awesome teacher...
Good teacher, the comments below are a bunch of bull. Very helpful, tests are very conceptual. Would take him again but he isnt teaching 196. Homework is lonnnngg
Great teacher. I dont like physics at all but this guy is extremely good and an even better teacher. Homework is hard and time consuming but he goes over any and every question asked. He's funny and entertaining. Labs are easy. Test are straight forward. If looking to do med school and pass the MCAT, this guy will teach you physics
Hey, I had a lame lab-partner and they complained all the time, but Crivello was excellent. Those people who gave him a bad review must have 'personal issues'. He was always nice in class. I went to his office for lab questions and he was cool for helping me.
Was this class a lot of work? You betcha! Was this class challenging? Yes some test were difficult especially the multiple choice. Would I take this professor again? Absolutely. Mr. Crivello did a wonderful job lecturing about a subject that is very abstract.
Was this class a lot of work? Yes betcha! Does he type his own reviews on ratemyprofessor? You bectha! Do all of the positive reviews on this guy have the same wording and sarcastic tone he uses in lecture? Yes. Would I ever take this professor again? Now way half the class was failing and pissed off.
Unapproachable. He is condescending and mean. Very strict on attendance (drop 1 letter grade if you miss 4 classes). VERY strict homework format. Will not accept 1 min late homework. Things happen and Crivello needs to understand that our 20 page homework packet just MIGHT be 30 secs late and MAYBE he should just accept it!
People who rate this teacher poorly are just DUMB AND LAZY. He assigns a lot of homework, tests are easy with 10 points bonus on every test, gives 5 percent automatically to everyone for participation, doesn't accept late work, writes really small on the board, does require attendance,(although i missed 15 classes and he did nothing) weak on theory.
People who rate this teacher poorly are just DUMB AND LAZY. I was surprised to see how low his ratings are. Professor Crivello is a great teacher and gives as much help as you ask for. This is a hard class people with lots of homework so be prepared. I spent many many hours doing homework and got an A. Anyone can succeed in this class if they are dedicated enough. Great teacher highly recommended!
Some of these poor reviews are ridiculous. Professor Crivello's class takes some work, but it is a good class, and he is very fair. He is much better than any of the other teachers at Mesa, and I really learned a lot from his class. The people that gave him poor reviews are just lazy.
Very strict homework format. He is very smart and knows the subject well. However he has a hard time relating to students. He gets mad at students who are having trouble. Very good at explaining concepts, but not as good at preparing students for his exams.
This guy is great he does experiments in front of the class while teaching, if you have hw questions you can ask the tests aren't too bad for physics. yes he marks small mistakes because they are mistakes, your wrong sorry, and yea you lose points if your late but this isn't kiddie land any more welcome to adulthood get used to it.
I swear he writes his own reviews. Because NO ONE I knew who took him, liked him.
Since i have a little bit physics back ground i dont think his class was that bad, but he goes over stuff very fast! homework problems are much harder than the exams. Do your lab and homework you should be fine.
I took his class last semester. All I can say is he goes over the materials very fast! If you take his class you better study b4 you attend to his class. The test are actually not that bad, as long as you study you should do ok.
I am surprised by the poor reviews here. This class was HARD, yes, but I studied hard and got an A. Prof Crivello is a very good teacher: he is patient and funny. (although he has a dry sense of humor that some people might find off-putting). There were students who openly (and rudely) disliked this teacher, but they were obviously lazy.
If he wasn't such a condescending person, I might have enjoyed his class. Write really small, takes attendance randomly, assigns a lot of homework, doesn't believe in exceptions to rules.
Very condescending, assigns too much homework that you'll barely finish, and the test material does not match up to what he teaches us in class.
It was so hard to keep up with the class because he would never clearly explain anything. Befriend you textbook because he was of not much help at all.
Never felt comfortable approaching him. Makes you feel dumb for not understanding. Says one thing but the next class he claims he said something else. Expects you to be perfect and to not make any mistakes. No partial credit on the final. No practice exams. Don't be late EVER. Too much homework, too little time. Can't even answer homework questions
I don't understand the bad reviews here. He assigns a lot of homework yes. But there's easy ways to get points on the homework, and because of this it's only 20 percent of your grade. Physics is not supposed to be easy, but he gets it done without forcing you to use Calc, Algerbra is much nicer :) Highly recommend this teacher, Labs are awesome to!
Very much enjoyed his class. Mike has an entertaining and informative way of teaching and it is quite enjoyable to attend his lectures. Tests are very fair and cover only the material he covers in class. Extra credit on tests is a little more hard but doable if you put in the effort to learn the harder examples. Would definitely recommend.
Overall a very sharp guys with very clear lectures. The labs are very organized but a little lengthy. Overall I would recommend this professor.
Physics 195 is a tough class. And Mr. Crivello is a good teacher, making it as clear as possible. His HW was all online, which is ok... and he expects a lot of work on the lab reports. They took as much time as the rest of the HW! And didn't really add much to my understanding. He doesn't tolerate unprofessional BS either
wow. i don't get the positive reviews on here. this prof does not make the class easy. the lectures do not go with the exam or the textbook. he offers EC on the exam, but its all or nothing. and the EC is hard. the labs are easy but he's a harsh grader so make sure you have everything right. don't ever be late. or work on your lab in class.
I would say choose another professor. His grading is way too harsh on the labs. The exams are easy if you understand physics and do the HW but the labs... he grades them way too harsh.
I thought he was a great professor. His strictness with homework and lab reports really gave depth to what I was learning. Without his systematic approach and accurate grading/feedback I would have had no chance in higher level courses. Fun class.
Great professor. You can do well if you go and pay attention to every lecture. Explains thing much more clearly than the book does.
I agree with students who have said he is condescending. I also do not like that he does not give a review for his exams. We are learning a lot of material in this class. A review is necessary to help guide the student as to what to expect on an exam. If you are very good at physics and pay attention to detail this should be an easy class.
Best Physics professor I've ever had. Clearly goes over concepts and makes the class enjoyable. Would recommend him to my friends!
He's a super interesting guy. He makes it easy to pay attention. I like his method of teaching which is practice makes perfect. He even gives you a change to do some extra credit by answering bonus questions on the tests.
I feel like I'm the only one who thinks he's a pretty funny guy. Physics is a hard class and he tries to make the material as clear as possible. There's bonus questions on exams to help your grade. He grades labs pretty tough (he loves units!) But he makes going to class enjoyable. Homework is online and he can do them in class if you have trouble.
Don't get thrown off if he comes off as condescending. Part of his Shtick. Actually very fair professor. The fact that he's funny helps with the sorta long lectures. (2 hours). Gives perfect clear examples on board. Hints whats on test and gives 10 to 20 All or nothing EC on each test. Can drop one out of four tests. Must take final. The End.
Anyone should be able to get an A in this class. Homework is online and he ends up doing most of the problems in class so all you have to do is take notes on what he does and fill it in at home. His lectures have a lot of visual aides and are almost completely on the whiteboard so you actually have time to write it down. Grades labs tough (units).
If youre lazy, dont like doing homework, writing thorough lab reports, or need babying look elsewhere. If you want to learn the material and enjoy someone who knows how to teach then hes the right guy for the job. His tests were challenging but appropriate and theres 1-2 bonus problems. Makes classes funinformative.
If you love dry humor, you'll love Crivello. He's a genuinely nice guy that wants you to do well. There's a slight learning curve. But once you gain traction, it's smooth sailing from there. (It's all Algebra & Trig) # 1 Tip : KEEP UP WITH THE ONLINE HOMEWORK. Once tests roll around, you'll feel like a Physics God.
Physics is a tough course that requires a lot of studying. Prof. Crivello teaches you the fundamentals of Mechanics which will help you in your later courses in engineering. Follow his homework criteria, do all the homework, be there on time and show up to every class.
Crivello is excited about physics and can sometimes have good lectures. He gives lots of good demonstrations to help understand the physics behind things. Do not skip any labs!! Grading criteria is a bit confusing and he assigns a lot of homework, but goes over practice problems to help with the work. Tough class but you learn the material.
he's the best
lots of homework and help with it too, I thought he was an amazing teacher and I breezed through the class, but hey I'm a physics major
He is very animated for lectures and makes a few jokes as well. Class has a lot of homework and studying to do, so don't expect to breeze through the class. Also, you have to pay attention during lectures otherwise you WILL get behind. Also, the homework questions are usually not on the exams, only the ones he does in class are, so attendance key.
So there is a lot of studying for sure! Make sure that labs are done correctly and that all numbers have units. He is pretty funny during lecture. Tons of homework. Overall pretty good teacher.
Very funny teacher! I learned a lot while in his class! Definitely got me to learn a new way of thinking. Lots of HW! Keep up, and don't fall behind.
As a person who've only taken one physics course in high school,I came into this class expecting the worst, but he made things really simple to understand. Lectures are interesting and easy to follow along, because he cracks jokes and shows a few demos. He is a very meticulous grader when it comes to labs reports, but they're not impossible to do.
physics is a tough subject, but Crivello made mechanics easier to understand and enjoyable. he always try to relate every section to actual things you can relate. a lot of extra credit but he is a tough grader, miss a unit and you won't get any of the points. overall excellent professor.
Great teacher, he's hilarious. No extra credit offered. 4 Exams and a final. No study guides for exams and he gets offended when asked for one. Drops one exam (not the final). Tons of HW. Amazing lectures. Labs are understandable and easy. Does not drop a lab.
Professor Crivello made physics easy to understand by relating topics to real-life scenarios. He offered a lot of extra credit on exams. Some exam questions were from lecture (so show up and pay attention!) and some were from the homework. There was a lot of homework, but it really helped me understand the subject. Also, be careful about units!
very not understanding. He will take off 3 points for not having your last name on your HW even though he knows exactly who you are. Very childish grader, takes things personally. Doesn't give positive feedback. Other than that he is a very intelligent person and does teach and know the material well.
Although I didn't pass, Crivello was an excellent teacher. Take it from me- GO TO EVERY LECTURE. Tough lab grader but they're not a huge part of your grade. Sharp, funny, and knows his Physics. HW problems help with the basics, but exam problems come from his lectures. Drops 1/4 exams. He's tough because he wants you to be successful!
Okey so let's be realistic guys, this is a physics class, is not an easy class but if you put in the work and time you can get the B at least. Homework is a decent amount and some questions will be on the test. He provides notes on his BB for every chapter, use those to study the concepts. You can tell he puts time into preparing his lectures.
Crivello makes mechanical physics come alive, plus he's funny. He's excellent at explaining and demonstrating the concepts. I never liked physics before. If you do the homework and apply yourself, you can make an A. I wish he taught electrical physics too.
Need a solid understanding of physics or this class will be difficult and will require self teaching. Material covered in class/hw/lab is approx 40% of what's on tests. The rest will be scenarios/concepts/theory that you're expected to know without being taught. Disrespectful towards students who don't already excel at physics. Not a nice person.
You really need to be good at math and physics, if tou struggle a bit in something you're going to get behind specially because he goes way too fast in class, labs are really long and tedious, and finally he leaves a good amount of homework.
Crivello is a real gem. His teaching style takes some getting used to but it's only for your benefit. Lectures are informative but not necessary. Labs are long and he's a strict grader for them. Some practice exams are online. Overall, it's a tough subject but he does a very good job in making sure you understand the material.
I was scared to take him, but I'm glad I did. Go to class, ask questions, and go to office hours. Nothing on the test will be a surprise as long as you keep up. Print the notes beforehand, preview by watching KhanAcademy, and take the homework seriously. The first test is the hardest (I got a B, then over 100 on the 2nd & 3rd), so don't fret!
Prof. Crivello is great at teaching physics. He is extremely organized and expects your work to be as well. Very clear in what he is looking for. Extra credit opportunities on tests, and sets aside class time for homework questions. He may come off as condescending at times, but that's more so only if you dont pay attention to what he instructs.
Now that I'm in 126, I realize how unecessarily difficult Crivello was. Lectures were vague and tests were beyond difficult. I don't usually struggle in these sort of classes but man!
Now that I've taken other physics classes and had different professors I can say I' was lucky to take Crivello and have him tech me fundamentals. Very good lectures with organized notes and demonstrations. Tough grader on labs, but he gives you all resources you need, just gotta put in the work. Understand hw and do practice tests.
Great professor, gives out a lot of homework which helps to practice for exams. Homework is worth 25% of the whole class grade which helps or hurts your final grade.
Needed a tutor or else I would not have passed the class. Physics is a hard subject, and Crivello is okay. Not the nicest professor, don't expect him to give you warm fuzzies. STUDY HIS STUDY GUIDES AND THE HOMEWORK LIKE THE BIBLE, they usually make up most of the tests. I would also try and come to class everyday, and don't EVER be late to lab...
Professor Crivello knows how to explain the material to ensure you grasp all the fundamental ideas. It is important to attend all classes, read, and do the homework. The tests questions are often seen in the homework, *wink wink* He is funny and caring - but will make you work for that grade.
Professor Crivello does not know how to teach physics. It seems like he made up a new style of teaching physics and it is not beneficial to any of the students. I often see a lot of lost faces in my class and even more struggling students.
One of the most nonsensical professors I've ever had. Makes you use Wiley plus ($100+) Lectures are basically on 3 problems. Doesn't label what's going on the board. No study guides, tests are extraordinarily hard. Completely scatterbrained and cancels last minute and makes you work around his schedule when he makes you miss assignments. A v o i d.
He doesnt care at all and the exams are super hard and conceptual. He makes you buy wileyplus (120$) for homeworks. Tough grader and he does not curve the exams
Professor Crivello is an interesting individual, he kept me laughing during lecture, but you also cannot be easily offended by his humor. He had a lot of hw but the hw was literally like studying for the exams. He has practice exams which are extremely helpful and he has great office hours. I wish he was teaching 126 next semester! I'll miss him!
Dont make the mistake and do the homework last minute before the exams like everyone. Half of the class doesnt pass so just know that if you arent strong in physics you must get to the point where you can do the homework problems without looking at your notes and youll be fine. It helps to really think and challenge yourself while doing homewk
Gives good lectures with hands on demos. However, he expects too much of students. Prefers to stand over shoulders and mock/belittle rather than help during lab. His tests are ridiculous. Only 2 students finished Exam 1 and that was after he extended by 30 mins. Tests are mult. choice but you can't guess and he gives zero partial credit. Avoid!
The lectures are faster than most can keep up copying, with almost no discussion or questions allowed. No time. Makes fun of students who get up to throw something out or go to the bathroom. Threatens them with "noone will hire you" Very disrespectful and unapproachable. Questions are met with scorn. Takes points off for everything possible. RUN.
Very difficult to keep up with, notes / lectures are very disorganized... no review for the exams.
Only reason i give him a 3 is because of his labs. Very easy labs since he explains how to do the lab in detail with diagrams and explanations on the board. Very tough grader, if you forget units or show insufficient work on the exam, he doesn't give you any credit for it. 20 question exams with one extra credit. Best of luck if u take his class.
Crivello is hilarious. He covers a lot of material during lecture. Plenty of homework (Wiley Plus, $49) and long labs. I can promise you, complete the homework (and do not cheat) and you'll be solid during test. He gives out extra credit during tests. He is kinda ornery, so heads up for the sensitives one. I learned a lot from his class.
Professor Crivello's lectures were amazing and easy to follow. He always managed to get the class to laugh. On every exam there was an extra credit problem. Strict on sig figs and proper units on lab reports. Gave access to practice tests to better prepare for exams. Do the homework, take notes, and you'll get an A. Best professor ever!
Crivello has a wonderful personality. However, his classes could be better. No reviews/study guides for the exams. Labs are actually easy, but he's a picky grader, making it easy to lose points. The homework is helpful for the exams. His lecture notes and videos aren't. Very disorganized and confusing. It's best to teach yourself the material.
This was by far one of the hardest classes. I went to tutoring for a whole lab assignment, they helped me on almost everything and I still did not receive a decent grade. He is a very hard grader. His exams are like 8 pages. Exams are hard and I lost so much sleep just to study, overall very difficult for me and half was online because of Covid.
I don't know anyone who passed his class. He does give lectures, but a lot of them. He doesn't really give you a lot of time for other demanding classes. You have 4 exams, the final, and a lab done every other week. The lab is pretty easy, and were also online. He does not help students who reach out and he is very sassy. Gave lecture over break :(
The way he speaks to his students is quite frankly appalling. It crosses the line from passive aggression to straight up hostility in a way that is not only disgusting in a classroom context, but no way any human should speak to another ever. Consistently will put you down for asking questions, whether or not he has the correct answer. He's unsafe.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Lectures were all pre-recorded, which was nice, but I didn't find them 100% helpful. I think his approach at trying to teach it to us was a bit off because every time I understood something it was because my friends taught me. Lowest test gets dropped, labs require a bit of work but are doable. Overall hard
Crivello is generally an okay teacher, subjects covered were broad, his interpersonal skills are what's lacking. He can be a hostile person. When I reached out about some difficulty on an assignment, he got somewhat personal in his response. He also has no problem tearing down students that ask questions he deems 'dumb'.
