Take him! He is amazing!
Such an amazing teacher! He's incredibly passionate about his work and he breaks down his lectures so it's easy to understand. He made a grammar lecture interesting (or, atleast, bearable.) Take his class! The majority of your grade is made from 4 papers and if you get poor marks on any of them you can resubmit em. You only get 2 free absenses
Michael Cross is hands down, the best English professor at Skyline. His assignments can be challenging, but he is always willing to help! My writing has definitely improved after taking this class. A major plus is that his theme for the class is really interesting, nothing like the typical English classes. I'm taking him again for ENGL 110!
His assignmentsessay topics are tough, but for good reason. I definitely felt that he helped my writing. He makes sure to prepare you for each essay through group discussion. He has an individual conference with every student after each essay and each essay may be revised for a new grade.
This class helps tremendously with your analytic and argumentative skills as a writer and the course is quite interesting. Micheal makes it clear that he is available for his students throughout the semester with any help one may need. However, be prepared to make a commitment and show up to class along with contributing to discussionsgroup work.
The work load isn't bad. I rarely had much to do for this class besides read a few short stories or something. Michael easily grabs your attention so that's nice. He let's you redo any of your essays. I personally struggled with writing in this class for some reason, though. The Eng 110 class I'm taking now is a piece of cake compared to his class
I really enojyed taking his class becuase 1. His topics are very interesting. You'll go in depth about vampires and zombies on a symbolic level. 2. His feedback sets you up for an A-paper, so pay attention closely! Just be aware, he is really big on grammar, so you might want to freshen up on that to really make an impression on him.
No matter how bad you are at doing essays Michael helps out A LOT. He'll make you a great writer plus his classwork and the stories you'll read are very interesting as well. Definitely recommend it to anyone that needs to take English 110.
The first thing I want to say about Michael is his humanity. I had a vary difficult time in my life and almost got an F for his course, but eventually with God's help and Michael's unbelievable kindness I've ended up getting an A. His topics will make you think really hard and you will look at the simple things like you never did before. God Bless
Michael is the best teacher that I have ever met!!!
highly recommend cross! might be difficult at first but he is dedicated to his students and wants everyone to be successful. as long as you show him you want an A, then he will work with you to get you it. 4 essays and homework is usually just to read and answer questions for credit. You get 2 absences with no penalty
He's one of the best teachers I have had so far. He gives great feedback on papers, and he's extremely helpful! You have to be willing to put in the work, so if you think it's a super easy class, and you're not going to try that hard, you won't pass.
Essay prompts are long and what he's asking for may be confusing. Attending class and office hours are a must in his class! He's a major grammar Nazi but it's all for the right reasons. Show that you care about your work, his class and he'll work with you. Expect group work. He seems intimidating, but he just wants what's best for you.
Dr. Cross is an amazing teacher. I wish I took him for my Engl100. He helped me big time with grammar and writing, and he was always ready to help. 4 essays are supported with group work and class discussion. Essays can be revised for better grade, but prepare to move quickly through each section. If you care about your English skills, take him.
Dr. Cross is brilliant, precise, and expects a lot of his students. He will put you through your paces, but you will be blown away by how much you learn. The reading material is fantastic and the course is compelling. Just wow.
Dr. Cross is definitely intimidating but a great teacher. He did give out about five essays which get longer but he gave me good feedback & allowed revisions which really helped. His lectures are pretty long and tedious at times and reading material can be confusing but he's always willing to help in any way.
I would recommend Cross to everyone. BEST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER!!!
amazing english teacher !!
I LOVE PROFF CROSS! HE HAS BY FAR BEEN THE BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. HE IS DETERMINED TO HELP YOU BECOME A BETTER WRITER. HE IS VERY HONEST AND CARING OF HIS STUDENTS. HIS WORK IS TOUGH AND YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK HARD IN HIS CLASS JUST KNOW THAT! HANDS DOWN I WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS ALL OVER AGAIN.
Michael was by far the best teacher that I have ever had! I learned so much in his class and would urge everyone to try and take a class with him. He is absolutely amazing
He was amazing, just go to his office hours, he will really help you improve your writing skills.
Very respectable teacher! He is passionate about what he does and genuinely cares about his students. In class participation and group discussions are needed in order to pass.
Michael is a really fair professor. If you do your homework and not skip the class(each class), write your essay on time and rewrite carefully. You will get so great score. Be a student what need to do, his class is so funny and you can learn a lot interesting things. If you finish early, you can left the class early. He is a nice professor for u.
If you take his class for Engl-100, just expect to write about zombies for the whole semester. The positives are that he doesn't give in-class essays, and if you go to his office hours for essays, he will be a great help for you. He sometimes takes credit for attendance.
He is very caring and kind if you go to his office hours. His materials are hard, you just need to follow the guideline he gives you in the prompt and check the essays with him in the office hours. If you are working on your transfer essay, you can always ask him for help.
He makes time outside of class to help you out with the essays he assigns. His lectures are also really interesting.
Michael is one of the best teachers that I've ever had. All of his lectures are very thought out and they will help you tremendously with the essays he assigns. He helped me become a better writer in so many ways. You definitely have to work in order to get an A in his class, but in the end you will be happy that you took him.
Cross won't fail you even though his class is too hard, he will help you through it as much it can as possible to do well in his class. Trust me, he's one of the best english professors so far at Skyline as he makes great new opportunities for students and the entire community.
He's a really great teacher and wants you to actually learn something. My class was all about bogeys and fairytales and all the essay were based off that. You always get a chance to revise your essay which really helps. He really wants you to succeed in class, but you're going to have to put effort in his work.
Professor Cross definitely cares about his students understanding the fundamentals of English. His essay prompts were slightly difficult, but honestly he really helped me improve my writing skills. He may seem intimidating at first, but he is always willing to help. Overall, you should take his class if you want to improve your writing skills
Cross is one of the most influential teachers who cares that you leave his classroom, learning something that will be applicable to "your" everyday life which is critical analysis. He forces you to understand difficult prompts, but in turn, treats you with respect as a student. 10/10. I would definitely recommend this class to everyone.
Dr. Cross's essays really focus on making analysis for fairytales and connect them with the real-life scenarios and issues. His readings are tough and you have to work hard to get good grades in his class. At the end of the day, you will know that he truly cares about his students' success, and getting an As in his essays is such a sweet victory.
Dr. Cross is the best Eng. teacher. He gives great feedback that will help you become a better writer overall. DO NOT LET AN R (REVISE) GRADE PUT YOU DOWN BECAUSE IT'S PROBABLY JUST TO SEE IF YOU CAN PUT IT IN THE WORK TO REALLY DO BETTER. The only thing I would change is the schedule bc it can get confusing when two diff. essay are overlapping.
Cross cares about his students succeeding and learning how to write. He assigns four essays throughout the semester and lets students revise three if they recieve an 'R.' Cross isn't a though grader. He likes students to dig deeper into the main prompt question and have an answer to SO WHAT
Dr. Cross is easily one of the best English teachers I have ever had. You can tell he definitely tell he cares a lot about making sure you learn and will give you all the help you need. Putting in the work really pays off and if you take his feedback, you will become a better writer. Make sure to include good analysis in your essays.
Although I didn't pass his class (going through some things and wasn't able to turn in last couple of essays) he made english really fun, the stories we read were interesting, and we got to choose our final paper. He lets you revise essays which helped a lot, but if he expects more out of you- your going to have to revise. overall great class!
One of my favorite professors EVER. Michael made me a better writer and critical thinker. I hated reading/writing but not anymore. He'll make an effort to know you and remember your name which shows he genuinely cares. I've gotten many compliments on my writing from professors at the UC i transferred to because of Michael's conceptual map. 11/10 :)
Insanely great professor. I think professor cross outclasses even UC professors. Teaching is an art, and Professor Cross is the Picasso. He relays information and critiques you by addressing how you can weave your strengths into your weaknesses.
English isnt my best subject, so I did struggle. But Micheal is a horrible professor. I never missed a class, I always went to his office hours to get help, but he made me cry. Hes so mean and has no limit with his personal opinion. He would criticize my essays but not even help me understand what I did wrong or what I can do to fix it? Horribe.
ENG 105 with Mr. Cross was such a GREAT class. Mr Cross would leave such great comments on our essays and would always help if we asked for advice. He gave tremendously insightful lectures and all the materials he gave us was really valuable to us as students and individuals. An incredible and caring proffesor that I would rec to everyone.
One of the best classes Ive ever taken. He not only teaches you what a good essay should look like, but his feedback on your essays is really helpful. As well, the materials he uses for the class are awesome. Id definitely recommend him for people who arent as confident in their writing abilities. Hell make you a good writer.
The materials he gives to students very ridiculous and unrealistic. He should change the materials.
I dont like his class
Cross works super hard to help us succeed. He puts together interesting assignments and gives lots of useful feedback about how to become better writers. The class material is also super different: readings on monsters and comic books, etc. Conversations are totally interesting and inspiring. I couldn't suggest a better class!
Dr. Cross has helped my writing alot. His class is hard but he wants students to better themselves. He's available in his office for help and I like the material he is teaching on comic books. It's not easy but he helps alot.
Michael is really caring and you can tell he wants you to succeed. He holds us to high standards for sure but it's because he knows we have to transfer and 4-year classes are really challenging. He lets you revise essays though so as long as you are putting time into improving, there's no reason why you can't be successful.
Cross is dope. He's all in with your work and will put in lots of time to help you succeed. His class is not easy, though. You have to plan to work on revisions in order to raise your grade up. But he'll have conferences with you and help you out a ton. We read some pretty sweet comics this term, including Batman, X-Men, etc.
BEST. ENGLISH. TEACHER. EVER. His class is really, really hard, but as long as you stick to it and revise, you'll still be good. He helps in his office a lot too. I feel like I'm pretty good at essays now.
One of the most caring professors I have ever had. Professor Cross pours his heart and soul into teaching. He has high standards because he wants his students to succeed and he really goes above and beyond to help if you need it. I wish there were more professors like Cross. I am so glad that I got to take his course.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Gives a lot of assignments, but is there to help and his assignments make sense and are valuable. He is one of the nicest, most caring, and most dedicated teachers ever. Will miss being in his class!
This professor is by far the best English professor Ive had. There were 4 essays in addition to homework assignments and although there is a lot of work, there are also essay revisions. The reading material was super interesting. Dr. Cross was super helpful, accommodating and truly cares for students and helps them reach their full potential.
This professor knows his subject, I would even say that he could add more content to his class because the way he explains everything makes the class very interesting. He is organized and tries to be fair when providing feedback and when scheduling appointments. He would definitely make you think and earn your grade unlike other professors.
be prepared to work work work, because if you slip once, you're on his bad side. I've had many friends who took him bad also have had bad experiences with Cross. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the headache.
Never met such a heartless professor. I don't understand all these nice reviews, which clearly shows he has favorites. Asked him for help so many times and he told me to just drop the class. What kind of educator is that? do. not. take.
Dr. Cross is the most helpful and sweet professor at Skyline! He is always working late at night to answer questions and he always gives chances to rework things if it means you can try again to learn something. Super patient and understanding.
English is SO HARD for me so I was pretty scared at the beginning of the class. But Cross gives lots of conferences and in the Covid world, lots of online videos to help you understand what to fix. You can completely revise essays so as long as you listen to his feedback and really try, there's no reason to not pass.
Incredible, but Cross makes you work for it. He's all about getting you ready for whats next, so he gives lots of feedback, but you have to commit to working. The students who don't do well miss a bunch of class and don't ask for help. As long as you're asking for help and discussing your writing plan, you'll be made in the shade.
Cross teaches interesting material, and the essay prompts make you think and force you to make an argument. At first it seems hard, but Cross breaks everything down and helps you along the way. Went into class feelings super unconfident but ended the class feeling way better about my skills.
He's the best. No question. Really interesting classes. Loved the books (I don't usually in other classes!). I struggled to keep up but he offered help when I needed it to keep me caught up. Treats students like equals.
Dr. Cross was so sweet and understanding during the Covid crisis. It was hard to work from home, but he offered extensions and helped everyone get through. I almost dropped a few times but his encouragement kept me going and I passed!
Cross has high expectations to prepare students to transfer so he teaches skills that will be good in the future. You need to revise, but as long as you do you will be golden.
The. Best. English. Professor. Full stop.
Never had a teacher spend the amount of 1 on 1 time with me as Prof. Cross. He is one of the few teachers that genuinely cares about making you a better person and improving your skills. I was able to find the flaws in my writing and fix them with his help. Just make sure you read the material- I reccomend the comic book focused class.
Dr. Cross is highly motivated, very well-spoken, gives great feedback, and be ready to improve your writing skills. Read the course material, take notes, and do all the outlines, this will help once you are writing your essays. Gives you the option to revise your Essays and overall a great teacher. During Covid-19, he was flexible and accessible.
There is no other like Dr. Cross. He is always available even really late at night and helps you when you need it. He teaches english to help students in whatever field they are studying in. I learned so much in a very short amount of time because of his one on one conferences and all his feedback. He's really the best!
If you are interested in really learning how to right, my dude Cross will set you up. He knows EVERYTHING there is to know, and he'll talk to you about it in a way that makes sense. The class is hard, not gonna lie. But if you work hard, he lets you revise. I never thought I could get better at reading and writing but it happened!
Dr. Cross is funny, patient, and the material he teaches is really interesting. This class was on comic books and the mutant as the outsider. It helped me think about comics in a whole new way, and it forced me to write more slowly and carefully. I learned more than I've ever learned in an English class, and I feel more confident in my writing now.
Whenever I think about my time at Skyline, I think of Prof Cross. He is the perfect example of the kind of teacher who really goes to bat for his students. He was always willing to help and he really made an effort to really help us understand rather than just skim stuff. He made me start to really like reading!
This class may seem difficult, but if you are interested in learning valuable information you can benefit from, for any future class, if you're willing to put in the work, this is a great class to take. He went above and beyond, sitting down, speaking to each student one-on-one, several times, to give personalized feedback and thorough explanations
Cross is the truth. He speaks to you like he believes in you, and he knows everything about English. He makes you work because he wants you to think and to be a better person. If you seek him out, he'll do everything he can to help you. No better professor at Skyline, for sure.
Can't stress how great of an English Professor Dr Cross is. He makes it clear that he cares about each of his students' growth as individuals and the environment of his classes feels healthy and he's never condescending. Super intelligent guy. His teaching style makes writing seem simple. Would 1000% take another one of his classes.
Cross is super helpful and makes you think in ways other professors don't. He holds you accountable, no question, but you can always ask for help and he makes it easy if you talk to him. Make sure to take your thesis and outline seriously! He's the best...
Dr. Cross is truly an exceptional instructor. He's always there to help you, and he doesn't make the work seem impossible, even if it is hard. I really struggled with his class because the material was difficult, but he was always there to help along the way. As a result, I learned way more than I thought was possible!
I REALLY struggled this semester due to online classes and the COVID crisis, but Dr. Cross never let me give up. He kept helping me pull through, and somehow I was able to pass. It wasn't pretty, but thanks to Dr. Cross believing in me, I don't have to take the class again.
Dr. Cross was so helpful this semester. It's no secret that his class is hard (ask anyone!), but you learn so much if you really commit yourself. He treats students like real college students and not like high school students. I really challenged myself, and I'm performing way better because of it!
I just signed up for Cross's "monsters" class, and it's already really, really interesting. The content is sort of dark and creepy, but we are studying all the different layers in the readings and Cross brings in some interesting history, too. Totally excited about this class!
Professor Cross is an amazing professor but his essays are the most difficult I have ever had... ever. He says they are basic but trust me from an straight A student, they are profoundly hard and he makes you go back and re do it. Never in my years have I had to re-write an essay. This is only the first essay and I am getting the worst comments.
You probably have heard that Michael's classes are difficult. He has high expectations, for sure. But the key is that he's always there to help. I have never learned so much about writing and reading before taking this class. The material is really interesting, which makes the difficulty less difficult, I guess! Go to office hours and ask for help!
I would have given him a lower rating, but that just wouldn't be fair because he's an excellent teacher. You can really learn a lot from him, but if you value your grades over learning, definitely don't take this class. As someone who's never had bad grades in English, this class is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Prepare to be stressed
Dr. Cross was caring and accessible outside of class, but the course was tough because of the challenging (but interesting) material and his essay prompts being vague and confusing even after talking with him. Make sure to start early on essay prep and check in with him to confirm that you understand his expectations and what you need to cover.
Such a great guy! 10/10 recommend this course if you are up for a challenge and want to improve your reading and writing skills. Prof Cross is very understanding and cares about his students but will make you work for an A.
Cross has really high standards but he helps you get better at your work with a lot of help. As long as you go to see him a lot you will get better and get higher grades. He has lots of time outside of class to help you but you have to go or else the class may be confusing for you.
Cross keeps it real with students. He doesn't sugar coat and he only teaches whats most important. He is easy to talk to and approachable, and he is always willing to lend a hand when you need it. If you want to actually learn, this class will teach you more about english than you have ever learned before!
Doc Cross is a really strong teacher. He is super involved with students and what they need. His class means doing a lot of hard thinking, but he's there to help you. If you put in the work, you will pass and learn something. If you don't put in the work, this class is not for you!
Michael is an excellent professor. His lectures are very engaging. I am an English major, headed for both a BA and a Master's, and am very glad that I am taking his class. Even though I have always been good at English, I know I will learn a lot from his class.
Dr. Cross has met me outside of class many times to help with my work, but also just to talk about the challenges of college. I have asked him to write recommendations for me and I feel like he is available to help inside and outside of class. As many people have said, his classes are tough, but he expects us to learn new things!
Michael helped me work on my essays, which is not easy for me. He was patient and made lots of time to talk in his office. I don't think I would have passed a different class because I needed lots of help. Take this class if you really want to learn something rather than just checking off boxes.
At first I thought I wouldn't pass this class because it was hard, for sure. I'm so glad I stuck with it, tho. Here at the end of the semester, not only did I pass but I learned so much. If you are interested in learning and not just passing, this is the class for you...
I was going to give up on this class in the beginning, mostly because Michael was actually paying attention and asking more from me than I was used to. That said, I stuck with it because I really needed to pass the class, and I'm glad that I did. I learned more in this one semester about writing than I ever had before in school.
I never have loved English, but Michael made this class super interesting. Made me want to try harder!
There was nothing easy about this class, but if you want to learn, Michael is there to help. If you have to take it anyways, you might as well get as much as you can out of it, and he will make that happen: promise!
Michael expects a lot from his students, but only so they can be successful when they are working on their own. He spends a lot of time giving feedback and helping one-on-one. If you want to grow, this is the class for you!
While taking online classes can be difficult, Cross made us feel at home in the class. It was a little tricky meeting to discuss writing, but he was available and patient, which was nice!
Unfortunately, I did not experience what many other students have said about him. As someone who does not have strong skills creating essays, Cross came off as passive-aggressive. It made me feel like he wasn't approachable and felt intimidated after asking him questions. The environment did not feel like I can be successful.
Michael knows as much about popular culture as he does about literature. We talked about anime, manga, old fairytales, social media memes, and all kinds of other "literature" in class. He is super interesting to talk to, and he will help you figure out what interests you, too!
We read School of Life books in this class and focused on the development of identity. The conversations were super interesting, but the essays were hard. But Michael was really helpful and available to work with us, which was good.
I took Michael's class on monsters and fairy tales and found it strange and interesting. The essays are really challenging but we worked on them in class quite a bit to improve. Despite not really wanting to take English, I did okay and I learned alot. Michael is really helpful but he really has high standards.
As lots of people have said, Michael has high standards. He wants us to be ready for transfer so he works hard. But he is there to help you. We did lots of meetings outside of class to get better and it really helped. I'm much more confident now in my writing.
Michael will work with you to improve your essays and you have chances to revise. Make sure you are going to office hours to ask for help.
I've been learning so much in this course: its not really just English. We talk about all kinds of ideas about the world that we can learn about through culture. I feel like I lean something new every time we meet. But the essays are hard, tho. I won't lie!
The monsters course is pretty wild. I won't ever look at fairy tales and children's stories the same for my entire life! The readings are pretty heavy but we have really amazing conversations in class about them. I'm getting much better at interpreting stories. I have to rewrite my essays for higher scores, though.
On one hand I do get it, he's a very insightful professor who is passionate about his topics. On the other hand, dude I'm just here for a GE.
never liked any english class, i feel the same for this class. not as much reading, but a good amount. has us think way too deeply for books that are 100 pgs. cant see your grade until end of sem but he grades other assignments? pays attention to every single detail in your essay and approve your thesis. you redo it if it isn't to his standards
English 100 was way better than I expected. We did write a bunch of essays, but we wrote about manga, anime, video games, comics, and all kinds of other books and movies. I ended up writing an essay about a dungeons and dragons campaign, and it ended up being fun (but still hard!).
Cross is totally approachable which is good because you will need to spend time in his office working on stuff. I did pretty well in the class because I asked for a bunch of help, and he really fills in the blanks in office hours.
By far one of the best professors I have ever had. Despite the difficulty of his classes, HE SETS YOU UP TO SUCCEED BOTH IN THE CLASS AND OUTSIDE (LIFE/FUTURE). The knowledge and skills you develop in this class will be useful for future courses. This class allowed me to become successful in my current classes. He's beyond amazing.
As somebody who struggles with writing essays, the 3 essays being the make or break for passing his classes really intimidated me. He does not allow for your grade to be visible, which I find weird & not helpful. Despite this, he is a good professor and if you are a good writer, you should be fine. Interesting topics for sure.
Dr Cross is an amazing professor. He has high expectations but he helps you through little steps. His lectures are easy and thought provoking. This class was hard, but amazingly, I have learned how to write a proper essay by using his techniques. He is experienced, organized, and passionate about helping students learn. Highly recommended!
Cross takes English pretty serious, so be prepared to work. But he makes it interesting and I learned a lot.
I actually didn't pass Dr. Cross's class, unfortunately, because I was going through a really difficult time in my life. I tried to make it to class regularly but simply couldn't. However, he really helped to advise me, even though he knew I wouldn't pass, and that really helped me so much. I plan to take his class again in the future.
Michael knows A LOT about writing, and if you want to really learn how to do it, he's your man. If you are trying to take this to just get your G.E.s, this is probably not the class for you. But if you've struggled with understanding how to write college level essays, he will really show you how to do it, which can help your confidence, for sure.
Dr. Cross works really hard to help students, but he has very high expectations. He will work with you to improve, but unless you put in the effort, it might not work out. He is available outside of class to help, especially in office hours.
I took Prof Cross online, and he was always available to help. I don't think I would take the class again online, just because I don't think online classes are for me. Also, I think I would like to be in the class with Michael.
Michael's class on monsters is really interesting, but the readings are pretty difficult. I'll never look at fairy tale stories the same way ever again! I'd take it again even though it is was a challenge, just because I learned a lot.
Its a little crazy to watch Cross edit your essay in front of you. He knows what he's doing. I don't love writing, but I know I have to do it. And I know Cross knows what HE'S doing so that helps.
I've learned more about writing than I every thought I would. I took Anthropology, Sociology, and English this semester, and I learned the most in Michael's class.
Just finished Cross's class with an A! Pro tip: go to office hours for help. Everything will make sense!
Mr. Cross is an okay teacher overall. I learned from his class after decoding his instructions (because he writes them as if we are in a PhD program). It's difficult to get the hang of things at first, if you're up for a challenge go for it.
While challenging, Prof. Cross's ENG100 class is incredibly rewarding. The essays are tough, but his feedback helps you grow as a writer. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep. Highly recommend this course!
Honestly, his class was exhausting and definitely difficult to take, but after not having his class anymore, I took it for granted! This is the only English class that ACTUALLY taught me how to write a good essay. His class might feel dreading but in the long run you will realize Cross' techniques are useful outside of his class. Best English prof!
I felt as if I actually learned how to structure strong essays. I like how he took a lot of time focusing on proper grammar and teaching different ways to organize paragraphs. He gave good feedback and his lectures were comprehensible. His expectations seemed a bit high but he definitely set me up for success in his class
Mikey Cross is great
Michael's classes are more like philosophy classes with writing in addition. The ideas are heavy, but the class conversations are super interesting. Essays are formal writing, but the prompts are interesting. Would take again, for sure.
I'm taking Michael's class on fairy tales and its interesting. The essays are really hard but he helps when you need it. Don't miss class tho because theres new information every day.
He was very helpful and gave a lot of great feedback.
I've never had a teacher actually explain how writing works before. The beginning is hard because you have to think in a different way, but suddenly everything makes more sense. He explains things really clearly and will explain in different ways if you aren't understanding.
Michael's class is really different from high school english. No more 5 paragraph essays! I feel like I understand what is required from college so much better now.
I took Cross's online 110, and it was fun. Hard but fun. I'm not a huge fan of monster stories, but it was interesting to see how these stories are metaphors for other things. 3 big essay projects. Revisions for two essays if you want a higher grade. A lot of discussion boards for the online course, but the other students had great ideas.
I highly respect Dr. Cross because he has taught me how to write college level essays. Honestly this class was one of the hardest from my other classes this semester. Thank you for all your support and kindness. I am so grateful for all the office hours and your feedback. Even though it's difficult, his class is very interesting! Thank you
Took him for my GE. He takes attendance and will note who was absent, however he will post a video of lecture on Canvas. The books he assigned were quick reads, and he does provide links to e-books if you don't have the time or money to get a physical copy. Will let you revise your first two essays but not the final one.
I'm really glad to have taken Cross for English. His class is about English, but its also about so many other things. In a weird way, it was more about philosophy. I really enjoyed it and I earned a lot despite the difficulty.
Michael's class mixes English and philosophy in a way that's actually interesting.Class recordings are a bonus, and he always encourages strong writing—not high expectations, just what college should be. His feedback always helps you understand how to improve. Definitely worth taking if you're ready to put in the effort.
Michael is so helpful, especially because English classes are really hard. He helped me with every part of my essay, even revisions. If you want a professor who is available for help, take Michael's class.
No one ever really taught me how to write before. This class isn't easy at all, but I know how to do things in writing now that no one ever showed me.
Cross has legit college level standards. But he helps you get there. At first I was a little overwhelmed but if you stick it out, I feel like it all starts to seem really clear.
Cross is a boss. Conversations in class are heavy and interesting, and the work isn't super hard if you ask for help. We talked about monsters as metaphors for social problems and read a lot of weird stuff. While I don't love english classes, this didn't feel like an english class even though we were reading and writing.
I have never struggled so much in a class; this class was mainly determined by 3 huge assignments, to even pass with just a C, you would have to pass at least 2 with probably the most harsh grading you have seen, and it felt like we really were just taught one thing all semester. I went to his office hours for revisions, but it was still pointless.
Michael uses interesting writing prompts in this class. We wrote about monsters and I wrote an essay about Attack on Titan which was fun to write for a college class!
