Way to suck.

Don’t be fooled. Decarvo is Jim Carey in disguise. I am being dead serious. Good class. Not too hard.
He is terrible... And doesn't like to help his students that are not involved in his extra credit courses. Doesn't have time for all the other ones.

DeCarbo really cares about his students and is passionate about what he does. Sometimes he can be a bit disorganized. If you do the extra credit, its pretty easy to get an A in the class. He made public speaking a lot of fun.
He is amazing. He only teaches you exactly what you need to know for speeches and tests. All you have to do is listen, follow directions, and ask when you need help and he is there for you. He is young and totally fun during class. He wants to get in and out and get things done. I loved his class!
It was like being taught by a child. He is immature and is not an effective teacher. He does, however, make the assignments clear, but I guarentee you will not really learn anything that could be useful later on except for stupid jokes.
Great guy! Everyone that Is calling him an ass just doesn't apply themselves. He invests his time on the students that want to be there. The man would do anything for his students. If you want to have fun and learn........ he is the best!
Michael changed my life! He gave me confidence to use my intelligence in an academic forum. The knowledge I gained from his coaching was incredible. I highly suggest getting involved with anything he is involved in.
Awesome
if ur lookin for a HOT teacher and the best experience of your life then u MUST take Decarbo.. the man seriously changed my life!!!! TRUST ME.... TAKE HIM!!

Had Decarbo for Argumentation and Debate. Good clear teacher, is completely forward with the material he teaches. Longest part was 4 seperate news article questions during the semester, but you were able to put them in outline form. Fun class if you like to argue, and theres also a big extra credit option.
DeCarbo rules, no matter what anyone else has to say. He's straight up about everything, no ****, and he really does care about his students, but he is human, so if you're a little****head, then he's not going to like you. not too difficult to figure out
Decarbo has a very powerful presence. He gives you a hard time for nearly everything and it can be stressful, but by the end of the class I really appreciated it. With interest in debate, the class is very interesting and his approach gives you alot more confidence in and outside the class. He's also hilarious. I strongly recommend him.
cool teacher. tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A in the class. Learned a lot and really helped me with public speaking. Easy to joke a round with and a bit of a smart ass which keeps the class alive.
he is a good teacher. I recommend him. He is smart and clear and funny. He is very interactive. Make sure you take copious notes.
oh my gosh this class is great, and DeCarbo is the seriouly the hotest and coolest teacher that i have ever had.
He was very arrogant.
HAHA he's tight.
decarbo is an awesome guy, relates to studentsb/c he is young. Super funny and will clown u on a daily basis. Be careful of your grade through out the semester, make sure you don't end up getting shafted becasue he is not organizd. He will kill ur fear of public speaking and will offer a fun class. he is rad but also kind of a numb nuts.
there is a lot of work, but its easy, not time consuming at all...he is funny and makes fun of everyone. He makes u get over ur fear of public speaking...he is young and hot
One of most passionate teachers I've ever had. You're going to work for your grade but it's a really fun class.
this teacher was GREAT!!!!! he really made the class fun and motivated you well. HE IS VERY FUNNY, LMAO ALL THE TIME. FUN FUN FUN CLASSS!!!!! RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER A++++
this guy is good and he knows his stuff. extremely funny and helpful. MUST GO TO CLASS. stay on top of the easy assignments and easy to get good grade
wow! :)
Great teacher, really cares about what he's teaching. Like others have said, he's an acquired taste. If you can handle a crude all round fun jokester, this is the teacher for you. Although there was a lot of work its manageable. He will help you become a much better speaker.
Michael is very particular about how he wants you to do your speeches/outlines/tests. He articulates very clearly his expectations. I also took Miller for argumentation and they defiantly have different styles. See which one works best for you. SWEET. I hope this review makes it on the debate room wall.
Awesome guy. Made class INCREDIBLY fun. I have never had a class before where the ENTIRE class was so chill with eachother. He makes you face your fear of speaking and jokes around. Sure he makes fun of you sometimes but it makes your teacher/student relationship all the better. You learn a lot and still manage to have fun. I'd surely recommend him
His Class is awesome, if you have trouble speaking in front of people, his Argument and debate class is the class to take. He teaches very aggressive and often beats you down with intimidation, but its loads of fun and education.
He is down to earth, sometimes unorganized for when assignments were due. but what i loved the most was that he had a lot of group activities. i dont think he was arrogant like others say, but he could get to you if u arent confident. If u do all the work ull get an A. then again sometimes public speaking is harder for some than others.
Great teacher! The extra credit class is almost a must. The class is an easy B but the extra credit class will make you an A. Plus he basically helps you alot with your speeches in the extra credit class. NO BOOK so you must be there for notes! Every thing on the test is from memory and waqs pretty OK but that's what the extra credit class is for!
Great teacher. Awesome class. i really enjoy his class a lot even though i was panic to public speaking. It's easy if you do everything, attendace is a must, and no late paper. You don't need to take the extra credit class. if you do everything i know you will pass the class. TAKE HIM. Friendly and nice teacher
DeCarbo is awesome. If you let yourself, you will enjoy his class. He's very laid back but he does his job well and he expects you to do yours. Participate, show some enthusiasm, and he'll end up being one of your favorites. If you expect to bookworm through it and not talk to anyone- good luck!
He seemed like a good teacher at first but I soon realized that he was not very understanding if I had problems and cut me off. I dropped the course.
De Carbo is by far one of my favorite professors. He really makes you come out of your shell. I was so comfortable in that class. Really finds something special about everyone. Very legit and honest class.
This guy acts like hes your friend but he gave me a C even though I did B work. He looks like Tom Brady and is annoying. Avoid this joke if possible.
DeCarbo was awesome. He challenged you and expected a lot but his class was my favorite by far. He's super funny and laid back. Stay on top of your work because he will call you out. Very helpful class though...TAKE IT!
He is funny and very helpful. Don't let your fear of public speaking think that he is not nice. He IS, really. TAKE NOTES and DO HOMEWORK - they're easy. Follow his instructions when you write your speeches since it's 50% of your speech. Then the other 50% is when you actually stand in front of the class. Don't worry, you only stand in front 3x.
DECARBO LOOKS LIKE JIM CARRY!! HE IS VERY FUNNY AND KOOL!! HE PICKS ON YOU ALL THE TIME BUT ITS FUNNY! EVERYONE GOT ALONG IN THAT CLASS AND WAS CONFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER!!!! TAKE THE CLASS!! ITS KOOL!
Fun class but he expects his students to know their stuff. Quiz and journal every week plus other assignments. Don't miss class or be late, you will be docked for it.
Took his 8 week course. I don't regret it. He's an awesome guy! Don't expect to go to class and NOT talk-HE'LL MAKE YOU TALK one way or another... :) He's super funny and easy to talk to! Totally recommend taking him!!!
First half of the semester was a lot of notes, second half is all speaking. His class was exciting and I learned more than I ever thought about public speaking. He gives a good amount of homework, but it's not too difficult. Attendance is mandatory. He is very encouraging. If you work hard, you'll get a lot out of it.
Decarbo is Hilarious... He makes the class very entertaining and fun : ) just make sure you are well prepared and attend class every meeting.
Decarbo is the best! If you come to class and try your best, you will pass the class. It truely is as simple as that. He has a great sense of humor and is very down to earth. Totally worth taking him.
looks exactly like Jim Carey. He's pretty helpful, but you have to do the homework, which is a lot. Debate class is not just debating, a LOT of writing. He's kinda intimidating, but he's a pretty cool guy overall. Nice, but serious about getting things done.
awesome teacher! i took his summer 4 week course and thought it would be hell, because i really dislike speaking in public and thought the workload would be crazy hard, but it's not bad at all. hw assignments almost every night, but his class is so worth it. he's so funny and can get ANYONE to talk even if they're afraid to. take this class.
Mike is really a teacher. A very good one. If you really want to learn something than take his classes. I took his COM100 and I learned a lot not only about communication, but about life and myself. He is kind of demanding, but if you do your home work (journals and assignments), you come to class and do some of the quizzes you can get an A.
DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD COMMENTS THEYRE JUST JEALOUS I TOOK HIS COMM 100 AND HES REALLY GOOD FROM THE START, U OVERCOME A LOT OF OBSTACLES IN YOUR LIFE, U HAVE TO STUDY AND DO QUIZES AND JOURNALS AND LIKE 2 PROJECTS BUT THEYRE REALLY EASY, I DIDNT DO ONE PROJECT AND GOT AWAY WITH a "B" AND IM NOT REALLY THAT BRIGHT, TAKE HIM!! 10 OUT OF 10 :) ...
decarb is great, attendance is a must if you want an a. he is helpful and pretty funny, he can be seen as harsh or what not but he just tells it like it is, i mean that is his job. great teacher you will learn alot from this guy.
He knows how to teach no doubt about that and every class is fun. However there is ALOT of work involved in the class. I am a pretty good student and his quizzes are extremely difficult. Be ready for a paper for ever class, which is not hard. and be ready to spend ALOT of time studying. I would recommend trying to find someone else.
DeCarbo is a fantastic teacher! That being said you NEED to go to every class. There is no book, so everything you learn is from him! Huge amount of your grade is from participation, also don't let the title of this class fool you, you will have to speak in front of the class. Homework load is medium. Its a fun class!!
Excellent teacher. Highly recommend. Very funny and helpful, knows his stuff. Just pay attention and you'll do fine.
He is my favorite teacher at Santiago Canyon so far!!! I recommend him to all my friends, my friend and i took him together twice!! if you have trouble with public speaking, he is the teacher to go to. Even if you want to learn more about how people communicate and why he is the best teacher to take the class with I recommend takin comm 100 or pub
He is a nice guy and the class his classes are fun. He does not give out A's very easily. Its the only class i thought i deseved an A in, in all my college, and im almost done with my AA.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!! Enjoyed his class 100%. Attendance, homework and participation a must. Mr. DeCarbo has a great sense of humor and is VERY witty!! I thoroughly enjoyed his class and learned so much from him. :)
Public speaking is not very appealing, but De Carbo makes the class much better than you'd expect. He's absolutely hilarious and keeps it interesting. Make sure you don't miss class, take notes, and be sure to do all of the homework he asks you to do. There's no textbook, as his notes serve as one.
DeCarbo is a great teacher. He knows how to bring even the shyest person out of their shell. No book required, show up for all classes on time! Take great notes, both the mid-term and final are verbadum of the notes! Overall great class. Work Hard and you'll get an A!
Gives out a LOT of homewrk. Attendance is a MUSTorLoose 30pnts. Test/fnl are fill in the blank(vryHard/NO stdy guide) makes u stay EVERY min of class. ONE missing assignment= 0% on ALL homewrk. Bonus: No book! Just a BUNCH of Notes to take. DeCarbo is a great& fun & humorous teachr, wrk hard & you will benefit 4rm his class.
Great teacher, makes public speaking very interesting.Has a issue with using profanity, but used a lot less in my class. I was appreciative. Not a easy class, but very rewarding and challenging, stickler for being on time and attendance. The tests were hard, the speeches were a lot of work but fun and I learned a lot.Would be willing to take him again.
The class I took was Argumentation and Debate and it was NOT what I expected. I figured it would be a class on well, arguing and debating, when really it teaches you how to "formally" debate and you have to follow an obnoxious format and have to make up arguments on the spot for things like "It is better to be a swallow than a snail." Really hard.
He is unlike any other professor. He's always making jokes. The class itself is hard. There's a lot of vocabulary you have to learn about the debating world. He grades very harshly! VERY hard to get an A in his class but overall pretty fun
DeCarbo is hilarious and makes everything that needs be taught both easy and fun to learn. You won't be able to get an A if you don't try but if you put in the effort, you will do well and actually use some of the skills in real life. I would recommend him to anyone!
Easy class, just show up and enjoy. presentations are a joke, completely messed up on the speechs. still got A's and B's
great teacher, intercultural communication was one of my favorite classes, there is a quiz every day for the 8 week course, there are about 13 quizzes and 13 journals so almost every day there is a quiz and a journal due. read the book and outline the chapters and you will do fine. his tests are somewhat difficult but overall he grades fairly
GREAT CLASS! He is enthusiastic and makes you feel comfortable talking in public. His tests are all written answers, but as long as you take good notes and study, you will be okay. It's a great class and highly recommend especially if you're a nervous public speaker.
Attendance is MANDATORY, and there is NO textbook. This class can be very easy if you listen in class and do your homework. Decarb is very fair and straight forward with the grading, as well as reasonable when it comes to helping you understand the material. Loved this class!
I took this class over Summer and I have never had so much fun in a class before. Everybody became good friends. De Carb is so chill he is always making jokes and laughing with the students. I am not going to lie there is a lot of work, but its manageable. It probably only seemed like a lot cause I took it in a four week time period
Took in the summer for 4 weeks a lot of work but he made it so much better! Helped a lot with keeping the lectures fun and interesting (: he wants you to succeed!!!
De Carbo, I believe, is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He knows how to relate to student by making them feel comfortable with humor. Has great views about life and is very interested in making sure students succeed not on in his class but life after class. I reccomend highly. Great Person.
Excellent teacher! Gets stuff done. Sometimes he rambles on, but it's in the best way possible. He definitely keeps the class on it's toes and laughing. Quizzes and reading reflections due every week. midterm and a final. several opportunities for extra credit. He really wants everyone to pass his class, if you don't try he'll call you out in class
One of the most fun teachers EVER. He likes being barefoot, which is cool and he never failed to make me laugh EVERY class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this professor!
Highly confused with the low rating below. DeCarbo made sure before each class session ended that his homework was laid out perfectly clear and concise. He actually could not communicate any better than he already does. Hilarious, easy going, and full of life. My favorite professor by a long shot. If you're a comm major, TAKE HIS CLASS!
Literally the best class I have ever had. This professor cares about his students a lot. He makes this class easy to understand and communicates very well and is very clear with his students when it comes to anything. He enjoys being barefoot And he's got a funny sense of humor. I recommend him 100%
just took him for 4 weeks and hands down one of the best professors at this school right up there with Adams. he is very laid back and takes a legit interest in getting to know his students. course load is definitally do able and the textbook is used ALOT. overall if you do all the journals and projects youll earn a B an A is doable with hardwork
Took this class for 4 weeks over the summer. There was a quite a bit of reading/work to do, but definitely manageable. Funny dude who grins a lot , like he's trying to burn a hole into your very soul with the intensity of his smiles
Amazing and easy class. Took him for a 4 week summer course and was very easy. You dont use a textbook and he really helps you to become a better public speaker. Would recommend taking him.
I hated public speaking but he helps you get over your fears. Very funny dude, very chill, and wants you to succeed. Do the work, come to class, and you'll get an A. Take this class!
Honestly he is the best professor I have had in my college experience. I hated public speaking but he was able to coach me into being better and not hating it so much. Very funny and upbeat. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. Go to class and stay on top of your homework.
DeCarbo is a great teacher. This is my second class with him and I would continue taking his classes if I could. Do not skip class, you lose big points. Overall, he is clear and fair. Weekly journal, weekly quiz, Midterm and final. No surprises. Use the quizzes as a study guide and ask questions. He seems to care about his students and his work.
Hes a Hoot. I have taken his class twice a couple years ago and I still have his words in my brain. Hes a genius yo
I took him back in 2010-2011, both interpersonal and public speaking and he is the reason I chose the major I am in. He truly cares about his students well being and all he asks in return is for you to care about your grade. Hands down the best professor i've ever had and just a good person all around. Absolutely take him.
Michael is one of the most interesting professors I have had at this school. He makes sure you are involved in the lectures and puts great emphasis on things that are important to the class. He will single you out and make fun of you. Take this with a grain of salt. If you cannot handle his humor then I suggest dropping within the 1st weeks.
Very difficult class. You need to study your ass off to pass. DO NOT MISS CLASS!!!! He takes off a ton of participation points for it and it DOES affect your grade. Make friends in the class and it'll be a little easier. Lots of group work.
Great professor. Took him Fall 2015 and did the 8 week long class. Good amount of work smash into that time but totally doable. The 16 week class must drag on forever. Just know that the topics you choose in the beginning of the class have the potential to be your public speaking topic. Don't make crap up.
DON'T MISS CLASS! You won't pass. I've had him for 3 classes now and he definitely grew on me. He can be a little much at times but he is ultimately a good comm professor who wants to help you succeed. Homework isn't hard, just make sure you do it. As long as you're trying your best, his expectations aren't unobtainable by any means.
Make sure you go to every class because he takes off lots of points. 13 quizzes off of the reading and 2 tests. Participation is a huge factor in this class and you will be called on. All in all, he is a good teacher and as long as you work for it, you will pass.
Decarbo is one of the BEST professors at Santiago. If you are debating on taking one of his classes, just do it.
took him about 2 years ago for an 8 week summer course. long overdue review, but for good reason. his lectures actually really changed how i process everything. learned so much from him that helped me become a happier person. highly recommend. wish i could come back to his class just to thank him
Took him during an 8 week course this latest Spring 2016 semester. He's funny and definitely a character who just wants the best for his students. One of the few prof who do everything they can to help you out. As long as you read, do the projects, and write your journals you are good to go. Highly recommend him.
Michael Decarbo is the man. You will enjoy his class without question. Stay engaged and always participate. Have tough skin and if he picks on you, pick on him right back! It's all in good fun. He genuinely does care about his kids and makes you want to show up and do well in his classes. This dude got teacher of the year for a reason!
Probably my favorite class at SCC. Quite enjoyable, participation is required and you will be called on. Hate talking and being on spot in front of large groups but he gets you out of your shell and you will become more comfortable. Just show up, study quizzes and do assigned work and you'll pass.
I took Decarbo quite a few semesters ago and he really did help me become better at public speaking because he gave great feedback. At the beginning of the semester I hated all the speeches, but by the end I noticed how much more comfortable I felt speaking in front of the class. To this day people still comment on how well I do with presentations.
This is a Comm class and in Comm classes you are expected to communicate. He is an amazing teacher that cares about all of his students. He is hilarious and if you want to get on his good side bring him fresh, organic produce. You'll get an A for sure. HAHA
if you get nervous at all, like your voice quivers, or you sway, or you fidget, he marks you down. even on your first presentation using flashcards, he will give you a bad grade for fidgeting and being nervous. his grading is purely subjective. it has nothing to do with content and everything to do with how you speak, stand, and act.
Lectures are engaging, uses rubric to grade outlines fairly, really EASY to pass the delivery portion if you have practiced your speech. Easy B, got to work for the A by studying for the midterm, but doable. No book, just lecture notes that are very clear. Ignore any haters of him, they didn't do the work.
I took professor Decarbo for COM100 during the summer of 2015, it was my first semester at college and the class was pretty tough. Decarbo seems to know the material well and presents it to his class. He is quite a funny guy but he does get carried away with his humor. COM100 should be taken during the Spring/Fall.
Never thought that listening to a guy talk about talking for a whole semester would be so engaging. One of the best professors I've had. He is very clear about his assignments, and works with students to improve their speaking ability. 100% recommend. Be on time, because he gives you participation points for it! either boosts or lowers your grade.
Intercultural Comm class. Funny, quirky but ENGAGING and wants you to succeed. All the quizzes and journals due the last month (or so) of class are literally ALL extra credit points; that really boosts your grade up if you were struggling at the beginning of class. Opens up discussion in a nonabrasive way to include even the shy students.
Do not miss out on the days where he gives out the weekly quiz and when journals are due. Do the journals and study the term definitions in the textbook for the quizzes and you'll do just fine on them. A brief skimming of the chapter will have you prepared as well before each quiz. He cares about his students making everyone feel welcomed!!
Decarbo is such a unique, caring guy. Hes funny, engaging, and relatable. Im always SO excited to come to his class. As a professor, hes straightforward and specific about what he wants from his students, which makes his class easy to follow. Lecture notes are imperative. The midterm is solely based off of notes he handwrites on the whiteboard.
One of the best professor on campus. Took this class for intersession and I never dreaded going to class. He made the 3 hours go by very fast and kept everything interesting. Easy B but have to study for an A. He helps a lot with speeches in front of class if you're not very good at it. He will pick on you if you're late or seem out of it.
I took him for an intercession class and I am just SO SAD it was only four weeks with such a gem. He's brilliant in every shape and form. Every single student was appreciated in the class and the environment made me feel welcomed! It honestly felt like we were all a happy family there. I recommend this guy to ALL of you! He will make you work! :)
DeCarbo is great! He loves to roast students in the nicest way possible haha! The concepts in this class are really engaging plus he makes lectures super fun when they should be dull in a normal classroom environment. His quizzes are quite challenging so READ the book! Work hard on journals! Otherwise, hes brilliant! I will miss this class so much
DeCarb is super friendly and very supportive of those who come to him to learn. Period. If you have ambitions to cut class early, not show up at all, or not come to class prepared for the day at hand, you will be one of the few students who won't enjoy his class. He has a brilliant mind and plenty to share about Communications and life in general.
Awesome Professor. This class is easy B but i had to work hard to get an A. We have 3 project to complete which arent that hard. Midterm consist of 8 chapters while the Finals is 4. You have to read alot to do well on the test and his quizes. He assigns journals which is not too bad. Just study hard for the quiz and test and you will do good!
DeCarbo is honestly a great professor. As long as you do all your work in time and are present in class you get easy points. His quizzes are kind of tricky because they're timed, but if you read and pay attention in class you'll do fine. He's very friendly and is always ready to explain and help. Would definitely take him again!
This is a great class to take in person I took it with another professor last semester online and have a completely different perspective on the class now. He is a very dynamic professor who keeps you engaged. Lots of reading the quizzes are timed so you will need to outline. Presentations are required but makes it a comfortable space to do so.
Decarb is one of the most amazing professor's I have ever had. I took his intersession public speaking class and was blown away by his amazing teaching style. He is honest with the students and cracks hilarious jokes. He is super personal. He is super smart and knows his stuff. I have never let a review for a professor but I just had to with him.
DeCarbo turned out to be one of my favorite professors this past semester! At first, his class is very intimidating because it is a public speaking course, but DeCarbo's personality allows you to open up and realize all that anxiety is all in your head. He calls out his students to answer questions on the spot, so be ready! Attendance is mandatory.
Lectures are really fun.
I had him for COM110 and the quizzes are based on his lectures mostly but make sure to read the book because he also uses definitions. Quizzes are confusing soemtimes. A quarter of your grade is your attendance so show up.
DeCarbo has been one of my favorite professors ever. He is super nice and funny and he takes the time to get to know his students which makes the class enjoyable. As long as you do the reading and pay attention and take notes in class as well as the homework there is no reason why you shouldnt pass the class.
Great Professor. Gonna miss taking his courses come the next semester. Would have him as my professor always If I could.
Guides you through lectures, if you're stuck on a question he asks, he'll actually guide you through answering. Gives motivational advice to improve relationships, he's very open to students. Attendance: log in on time and participate. He hops into breakout rooms and provides feedback, leaves off a piece of advice as well.
NOTE: during my 2nd semester of spring 2021, he takes quizzes seriously as for the quizzes are taken after lectures on Zoom to make sure quizzes are completed on time
Mr. DeCarbo is a great professor. He is able to get people out of their comfort zones and make them into stronger people. He was the only teacher that actually made me excited to come to school. His class is always very lively, and never boring. He also cares heavily about his students.
his quizzes are absolutely ridiculous. The textbook itself is understandable but he makes his quizzes seem like you're taking a rocket science class with the unclear questions he gives you while giving you absolutely zero time to even think the question through because he gives you 10 minutes to finish 15 questions that include fill in the blank.
Cool guy. really works to understand his students and is good at making people think. hes knowledgeable, very respected, down to earth but will put troublemakers in their place. He has an uncanny way of knowing what your interpersonal skills are by just observing (even though I never talked). Hes a buddy kind of guy. I will never call him Decarb.
Decarbo is exactly what you want in a public speaking course. Always offering reassurance and solid advice. His tests will obliterate your grade if you don't study, but even though I got below an F on the midterm I ended with an 88%. Cool guy, fun class, no complaints.
He was so funny. His feedback was very informative and was not harsh or degrading. If you want an A just do your homework AKA your speech outlines and practice your peaches. The honestly very easy class just put a little effort in.
De Carbo is a pretty cool guy and I liked his class. You have to pay attention to the lectures but as long as you can take decent notes the class is pretty easy. Midterm and final were basically the same thing, and after every speech, you get the feedback you need to get better next time. You must be able to handle banter and laugh at yourself.
Professor DeCarbo made the class really engaging but challenging. I had him for public speaking and if he sees you are nervous he will make you speak in front of the class. Don't take this class if you can't handle criticism or are afraid of being put on the spot. He expects a lot but also engages with you. Overall, fun but hard class.
He can often be a picky grader, but if you follow with the class you should have no problems. Unique teaching style that can take time to get used to, but you warm up to it with time. Very friendly and likes to call out/pick on people, so be ready to talk. Overall, a good professor and an enjoyable time.
Not a lot of homework, and the assignments were fairly easy. Made a few friends in this class. Gives good tips and a few extra credit assignments and knew each student by name. Replied to emails fast. Pretty funny and kept attention easily. Take some notes to review and you should be good!
This was the most impactful proffesor during my time at scc. He genuinely cared about what was going on and greatly assisted students in succeeding. I took public speech and interpersonal comm and both were great in person classes. Make your schedule work around taking this prof!
He is a great teacher, he really wants you to do well and will push you to do so. It's not too much work, and he is pretty chill about assignments and will help when needed. He puts people on the spot, but it's only to better you. Also class is never boring, would take again
Professor Decarbo has a unique teaching style that takes time to get used to, but he's friendly and engaging. The quizzes can be challenging, so utilize resources like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook for study prep.
One of the best professors I've ever had, online or in person. He gives great feedback and his assignments were all super fun. Lots of discussion posts (obviously, it's a communications class) so stay on top of replying initially and leaving comments by the due date. If you participate, you'll have a lot of fun. Can't recommend DC enough!!
The course is good for students who want to learn communication. He seems to joke around with students to make the class fun. However, he seems to put you when you don't know the answer. He would raise his voice out loud if you didn't answer on time and began to ask more. Most students left since he began to horseplay rudely to the students.
DeCarbo does a great job at making the class engaging by asking questions to, and interacted with individual students. He calls you by name and forces you to talk and engage in the lesson. He is also very energetic, uses dynamic speaking tones, and is pretty funny. I failed because I'm lazy, not because the class is overly difficult.
This professor ruined my aspirations of looking into becoming a communications major. Over half the class failed their midterms and are getting low Ds. Also 100 point assignments get impossible low grades like 0 out of 100 or less than 20. I'm saddened that there are such tough professors out there. I'm not trying out for NASA after all!
Taking an 8am course is never easy but Decarbo made it tolerable. Go to class or you'll fall behind fast and so will your grade. The homework is very manageable, make sure your notes are very specific because it will be on the midterm, which is worth more than the final. The speaking part gets much easier as class goes on.
