I actually had Desroachers in high school. He teaches at Dominguez Hills on the evenings. I just want students to know he is an awesome person. I had him for 3 different classes. I miss having him as a teacher. get to know him, he is so cool!
This teacher is the best teacher i have ever had he is very helpful and an awome person in gerneral i had him for a high school class but i am taking summer school just so i can have him for a teacher because he is retiring after the summer.
Great teacher! He pushes you to do your best and I got an "A" in his class. I still have the textbook as I have used for reference in my other classes.
well i dont know about others but I hated this class..he is easy because he gives you a stugy guide with at least 30 terms and you have to be able to write at least a page for each term..he does not give you all of them but you dont know which one will be there so you have to know them all..he is okay he gardes easy but I hated studying for class
Tough tests. Too much to memorize - study guides 14 pgs long typed. More info you give, better points given. 30 people failed first exam! Very stressful. If you only have a couple classes, go for it. If you have a full load, forget it. You won't have time to study for anything else (or you'll get an F here).
Desrochers is overall very knowledgable. Had a hard time in the exams, but as long as you read the book and his lecture notes, you will be ok in class, OR ELSE you will not know what hes talking about. Then again pay close attention, because he talks like the clear eyes(commercial) guy.
Just took him over the summer. Tests are very easy you know exactly what to study and exactly what's on each one. His lectures are quick to the point and he's very knowledgable. The class was supposed to be 4 hours long and we never got close.
He is the ideal college professor. His class is not a walk in the park!!! It is essential to download, read, and study his online lectures and lecture outlines! The essays aren't easy, but at least you get to pick which topic to write about. He's a good guy, too. It may not seem like it, but he does care about your grade.
I hated history with a passion prior to taking this class. I love it now. This class does require you to study and read a lot but it was interesting. You basically study approx. 30 terms for the test and he'll require that you write on 5. You won't know which ones until test day...and one essay question. Overall, he's a good teacher.
I recommend CSUDH students to take him for any history classes!
The textbook is your friend. Just remember that. He also tells you what questions will be on the exams. 4 papers required which are cake. The study guide should make it easy for you to pass with flying colors!! You need to KEEP UP with the readings and pay attention! Not difficult, but no breeze either. Good natured and humorous. Recommended!
An amazing teacher. Changed my life freshman year.
i took this Sum'10 and I'm glad I did. I'm a senior and I dreaded history so much that I put it off until the last minute. The way he teaches is fluid meaning everything connects, its like one BIG story that drops you off in present day. I got an A, his class isn't hard and he gives opportuniy for advancement. Pay attn to his test trends
History was not the easiest subject for me before entering the class. However how he teaches it made it interesting and provided an alternative outlook on U.S history. The tests are just writing the definitions of terms that he has listed in a study guide. The class is pretty straight forward. There are quizzes every morning but they are on the ter
this class was okay. attended all his lectures and they were helpful for the tests. in the lectures he basically talks about the terms that are on the test, so attending is good. 4 papers for the whole semster. good professor! i'd say take him pretty easy if you study and do the papers
Really great teacher. Has a very dry, but great sense of humor. His lectures are very interesting. The class is easy to pass if you do your work and attend class. Overall great teacher and great class.
Although I found this teacher to be very inspiring this class was difficult because I had been out of school for so long. Most of the students in my class felt he expected too much of us for the exams memorize. I felt the class was too much 411. It felt like 10 classes condense in one. However, he is an excellent teacher & no textbooks are needed.
He follows the syllabus exactly. As long as you read should do fine. The quizzes are sometime difficult but the exams are easy if you read the chapters and take notes. WILL NEED BOOK FOR THIS CLASS ! overall good teacher and entertaining
Dr, D was a challenge but I dont think I learned in any other class prior to his, he is passionate. Yes hes not easy but its college, come on,
He is really passionate about history. This class is definitely not easy, but not impossible to pass either. It requires some good studying. If you don't mind putting in some study hours you shouldn't have a problem. He's a generous grader and didn't make us purchase a book. Overall, I liked this class. p.s. He counts attendance.
Interesting class. It consists of mostly sitting in your chair and listening to Desroachers lecture/summarize the readings you are suppose to do for the day. No textbook required, he posts every class reading on Blackboard. 4 tests, non cumulative, and a daily quiz on the readings assigned. Always available to his students and offers extra credit.
He is a good professor. I agree with what everyone else says. Go to class and he'll give those students extra credit. There's usually always a before class pop quiz or a quiz after class. If you can, record his lectures and sit in the front. I hate history, but recorded everything he said and studied hard. Passed the class with a B+. He is funny
Really easy tests! Just read!!!
He is a very good professor. He is passionate about his work and he has a unique style of teaching that grasped my attention. All you need to do for his exams are combine what you read about the given terms with his lectures. Loved his class
Great professor!! Desroches is a very smart man and he wants his students to pass! Make sure to always have a good impression because he remembers names quickly! If you start off bad but try harder and harder in every exam, he will bump your grade. Show improvement and he will be happy to pass you.
Great Professor!! 4 exams and 4 papers that are due. You cannot get through this class without the book. All essays are based from the book.. do not use internet sources. Professor Desrochers knows history and this is a great class if you want a better understanding of U.S. history
Great teacher! He knows his stuff! Ask him a question &he'll respond quickly and with clarity. There are 4 tests &papers. The book is REQUIRED if you want to pass. The tests are based on about 16-20 terms that are located in the book &are talked about during lectures. You need to DEFINE in great detail 6 of these terms for tests. I learned ALOT!
This class was actually pretty cool. Attendance did not lead to drops, just affected your chance for extra credit at the end. He's very organized, quick grade turn around and he remembers names even when no one participates. Do the work and you're gaurunteed a good grade. I'd take his class again.
I used to always hate history but it became so much more interesting after this class. I have learned more than I ever have but it took a lot of work. You will do much reading since we usually took a quiz before class. You will do great as long as you take good notes and prepare for tests at least a week in advance.
Dr. Desrochers is an AMAZING professor. I would definitely take his class again. He is always there to help, he cares and wants his students to pass, so if you ask for help you'll get it. Not a hard class you just have to read, but the book is interesting and so are his lectures. Perfect attendance gives you extra credit at the end of the samester.
Best professor! I didn't like history, but taking his class was interesting! Buy the book cause you'll need it! 4 tests & papers 2-3 pages. READ the assigned chapters before class because he gives quizzes almost every class. HERE IS A TIP: HE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT TO THOSE WITH PEREFCT ATTENDENCE AT THE OF THE SEMESTER & 3 other opportunities too!
I'm probably like many of you who think history is boring, however professor Desrochers will change your perspective! Take his class cause you WILL learn! He remembers name even if you don't participate. bumbs one grade up if he sees you improving. It's true, if you have prefect attendance, you'll get extra credit at the end of the semester.
His lectures are long, interesting, and feels like a story; also, make sure you listen and take a lot of notes. Good notes come in handy for the 4 written exams you will take. Be prepared for the pop quizzes he gives every class meeting. Attendance does count! especially at the end cause you can qualify for life saving extra credit.
A lot of work. get ready to read you will have a quiz at the beginning of most class (easy points if you read)he post outlines for every lecture, useful for the test. Four Written test along with 4 written papers. A lot of work but I really enjoyed the class.
I really enjoyed this class. This professor makes History seem not so tedious as many people claim this subject to be. I would retake this course if i could. BTW-you will need the assigned textbook!
BEST PROFESSOR! If you think history is boring, this professor will change your view. He is there for you, cares about students understanding the lecture. YOU WILL LEARN GUARANTEED. He will bump your grade up if he sees improvement in your test scores! STUDY and you'll do fine. 4 test and papers. (Perfect attendance gives you extra credit)
He is an AMAZING professor. I took him twice in different classes and I am satisfied with my grades. He is very clear. Highly recommend him. Lovely guy.
He is a great teacher! I would take him again. Do expect to read and you MUST read because you will have a quiz at the beginning of class mostly all the time. The quizzes are very short 1 to 4 questions. You will only have 4 papers and 4 test. Must attend class or you will not have a good grade or pass. I highly recommend him!
Amazing and inspiring professor. Note taking is a must. He makes history really interesting even if you're not interested in the subject. Papers aren't hard at all. You really need to know the topics he gives you for the exams but he's not an extreme tough grader. Really recommend his class
One of my favorite classes this semester! the first test is the hardest but the class is easy! The teacher looks mean but hes very considerate and friendly. TAKE HIM! He's one of the few good professors left at CSUDH! :D Helpful Tip: he gives a quiz everyday, but its on the terms!
Although history may sound boring, he made it fun. Instead of a textbook, he gives study guides with the vocab words to learn so it's impossible not to pass that class. He posts his lectures online too, so that's also helpful. I passed with an A so it's pretty easy, as long as you study.
Great professor! He made history finally interesting and enjoyable for me.
I took him my first semester at CSUDH and absolutely feel in love with his teaching style. I was so enthralled that I took every course he taught and even decided to add history as another major. I would take any course he taught in a heart beat. The course wasn't all that hard he pretty much gave you the answers during lecture.
A lot of people say that this class is hard, but its only because of the amount of reading. If you can keep up with reading every day then you'll be fine! I enjoyed the professor and his lectures. IT'S IMPORTANT TO READ BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE QUIZZES NEARLY EVERY CLASS! However if you do come everyday then you'll be able to get extra credit!
I have to confess that I've never had any interest in history, but for the first time I enjoyed learning in a history class! Professor Desrochers gives you the exact terms you'll need to know about on your exam focus on them in your book & gives detailed lectures that will help have more info & knowledge on the terms. DEF RECOMMENDING HIM!
This Professor is so great!! Never really liked history but he knows how to make it interesting! Take him if you can! Great guy i would totally take him again if i could!
Really easy class, favorite teacher I have had so far. MUST READ for class but makes the information easy to grasp when he goes over it in class. Overall chill and easy class.
My favorite teacher at Dominguez by far! He is really cool and chill, he is really funny when he talks about certain topics because he disagrees with like everything. Super nice and really great teacher. WILL BE TAKING HIM AGAIN FOR HIS 101!!!
BEST PROFESSOR !Come to class prepared. There is quite a lot of reading but he does lectures the first half of the semester. Quizzes every class but are fairly easy because they are based on the key terms. Midterms are also on key-terms. He gives many chances for extra credit so ATTENDANCES matters! will be taking again for HIS101
This professor is amazing at what he does. His teaching style is so unique compare to other professors. I would HIGHLY RECOMMED taking his courses. If your not a history person, he will convert you into one. Quizzes are easy and are based on the key terms of the lectures and same goes for the exams. Attendance is key to recieiving EC. Good Prof.
Posts all his lectures online. Gives multiple extra credit options at the end of the semester. Two question quizzes at the start of most class sessions but they are always on the chapter terms. TEXTBOOK IS ESSENTIAL for quizzes, papers and exams. Great professor, knows how to teach, you just have to put effort into your studying habits.
Professor Desrochers is an excellent instructor! There are 4 exams based on the reading but you don't have to buy the book as he basically wrote lectures for you to read . He is very enthusiastic about teaching and wants everyone to do well in the course. His in class lectures are very interesting, never dull! Definitely recommend him!
Best teacher ive ever had.
Do the readings, pass the tests.
Professor Desrocher may seem unapproachable but he is very caring. You can see his passion for the field; makes the class interesting. And is very funny at times , considering that its a history class. There is no required textbook, all his lectures/outline are on BB , which is extremely helpful. Would definitely take again in a heartbeat.
Took him for HIS 120 & 101. One of the best professors at the school, he is very funny at times and makes class interesting. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester, so show up to class cause some are attendance based. The best ever!
at 1st he is really intimidating, but he turned out to be one of the sweetest professors at dh. he gives a pop quiz at the top of every class but if u just read the lecture its an easy A. HE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER FOR ATTENDENCE SO SHOW UP, never HW, just read
This Professor is one of the best at Dominguez! a lot of reading but the tests and quizzes are based of readings. He seems scary but he is actually very nice and caring. He will even crack a joke from time to time. I have taken him for 2 history classes and would go for a 3rd if he taught it. In his lectures he keeps is real and goes into detail.
I highly advise for you to take him for any class. His lectures are amazing and he's funny, but theres a quiz every class so make sure you read what he assigns for that day(how he takes attendance). His exams are very clear and easy if you read and overall he's just a great, funny professor. One of my favs! extra credit as well
Lots of memorization but he honestly made history understandable. He explains each event very well and basically hints to you what words will be on the exam. Show up to class and have no absences and youll get extra credit and at the end of the semester he offers more extra credit
BEST history teacher I've ever had in my life. He's the sweetest!!! He makes history so interesting, which makes you want to listen & learn. There are pop quizzes at the beginning of every class, 4 papers, & 4 exams. The exams are only hard if you have a hard time memorizing, but other than that, EASY A.
His lectures are interesting. This class is heavy on reading, so make sure you have time for that. There is a quiz every class based on the reading for that day. 4 exams that require you to become experts on the terms given. 4 papers as well. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester if you have perfect attendance & improve. Great professor
He is looks very intimidating but at times he can be very humorous. In order to pass you really have to take notes during class and pay attention. You also have to make sure you do the weekly readings. This is a challenging class for a 100 level course. The pros to taking him is that you will definitely learn a lot and he gives a lot of EC.
A LOT OF WORK but pretty easy to pass. You have daily quizzes based on the book (about 2-3 chapters a night) which is very inexpensive about $10 Plus online readings he posts a total of 4 papers and 4 exams. If you did everything youre guaranteed to pass. Take this professor overall great and you actually learn new things every day
Best Prof! He offers extra credit throughout the course. If you have perfect attendance, you'll get extra credit. Overall, there are tons of reading but they are interesting. For someone who use to hate history, he changed my perspective. He makes lessons really interesting. There are 4 papers which are easy. It's impossible to fail.
This is the best professor ive had at Dominguez going into my fourth year. He is amazing and super nice. You can tell he cares about history and is so knowledgeable its crazy. He seems scary but he is really nice and super cool. There are 4 tests pretty much based on memorizing but not too difficult. You will not regret this class at all.
best professor ive had at Dominguez. He is amazing and super nice. You can tell he cares about history. He seems scary but he is really nice and super cool. There are 4 tests & papers pretty much based on memorizing but not too difficult. You will not regret this class at all.
His lecture is super interesting, best history professor in DH.
This professor is very passionate about history and does an amazing job on giving the students more than your basic history information. His readings and lectures are very intriguing and were never boring to me. 4 exams, 4 papers, and daily reading quizzes. At the end he gives extra credit opportunities.
Definitely the most boring class I've taken. Desrochers is a nice but its nearly impossible to not fall asleep during his lectures which take up the whole class period. He doesn't assign homework- only 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final so its really hard to improve your grade. The quizzes are pretty hard (A LOT of writing) and he grades tough
The teacher presents clear passion for the subject, he is always enthusiastic and eager to answer any questions. Very knowledgeable on the subject. Makes it very interesting. Definitely the best history professor Ive ever had. Rock on Dr. D!
Literally probably one of the best professors hands down at Dominguez hills. He manages to make history one of the better and more interesting subjects to go to. It is very lecture heavy and you do have to read but you learn a lot. If you want a quick tip just get a bit early to class and read the lecture on your phone and boom you pass the quiz.
Your grade depends on reading the lectures and the assigned textbook chapter. Pop quizzes were daily for my class, usually it was two to three questions. Attendance is mandatory because he does give out extra credit for those that never missed class. The papers were not difficult but the exams were if you don't put in the time to study!
about 4 papers, and gives quizzes everyday based on reading, for the exams you are required to write a page of information based on the vocabulary terms. gives extra credit at the end of the semester just for having perfect attendance! he's very nice, and does not want anyone to do bad in his class!
Hes a really good professor. Ive had trouble with history classes because I see them as boring but he made them very interesting and its quite a bit of work but you learn the interesting parts of history you never heard before.
I will admit there is a handful of assignments but nothing that cant be done! He wrote his own lectures and its far better then reading from a textbook. He made History very interesting because I would find it boring at before. I enjoyed his approach to history and respect him for it.
This class held online because of covid-19. He requires you to write total of 4 or 5 papers and exams and 2 quizzes every week. He gives a good feedback whenever you submit your homework. I would like to take again for different course!
Dr. D is amazing! I took his class online and it consists of lecture meetings once a week, 2 quizzes each week, 4 total papers, and 4 exams. If you read his lectures and take notes during his online lecture you'll be solid to write a good paper/exam. He gives clear grading criteria and helpful/immediate feedback. Easy A if you do the work!
I took him before Covid and he would have pop quizzes almost everyday, they were insane questions and very specific. He also did in class essays and they were timed. They were about events we learned but he only let us do 5 on the list so you have to study every single detail to fit one page about the event, wouldnt take again but hes a cool guy
This was honestly the best class I have taken so far. I learned a lot from this class and he allows late work. Not only this but also he is very kind and understanding. His class was fun and I enjoyed the lectures he gave!
has quizzes for every lecture and the answers are in the lecture so READ! Test a super easy, be very detailed!!
He's ok
Great Professor, there are many papers to do for his class, but if you read his lectures and the reading you'll do better.
Lectures and readings are provided. All of his information is clear but its a lot of reading. Lots of papers but all info needed is provided in the lectures/readings. Overall an excellent teacher.
The first few weeks of class felt boring since it was pure lecture for the whole hour. But, the lectures become intriguing as the semester goes on. You have to read a lot for his class and he give out pop quizzes based on every reading he assigns. Overall, he's very understanding and great professor. As long as you do the readings you'll be fine.
Dr Desrochers is an amazing instructor and you can tell that he loves his profession. The assigned readings can be long at times, but they help A LOT for exams. The class is an easy pass as long as you do the assigned readings. Would definitely take this class again.
You can tell Professor really loves what he reviews in the lecture- it's also easy to understand when he explains material. However, beware if you don't like to write- all quizzes and exams are like essays. He gives good feedback for papers/work submitted and is always available to email no matter the time of day. Extra credit at end of semester.
One zoom class per week and all due material is posted on the sylubullasl with dates. He does grade somewhat hard it's somewhat hard to get constant A's but it's for sure a passable class. Perfect online class if you don't want to go in person
This teacher had us meet via zoom once a week. His lectures were very insightful and he gave amazing input. This is his last semester teaching so I am glad I took his class.
