If you took accounting in high school this class will be easy, otherwise it'll suck. He likes making his students look like idiots, and the tests are on Friday afternoon. Don't sleep in his class and pay attention or he'll make you look stupid.

Michael Dole, though intelligent, has no interpersonal skills whatsoever. I have done well in all my classes, and am a top student. However, when I asked him for help, he told me that he did not know what to tell me. Furthermore, he comes off as snippy while in class, and pretends he knows everything about everything. Doesn't deserve to teach here.
I LOVE DOLE! If you arent a hard worker this is not the class for you because Dole is not easy but he's a great teacher. People don't like him because he actually expects students to do the work. The class is very structured, you have to read the book, and do the homework, and you have to pay attention in class otherwise you dont have a chance.

The person who posted above this one about Dole is an idiot. I know who this kid is and the reason Dole was "snippy" was because this kid said the most ridiculous things in order to get attention and thought the class was laughing with him when in actuality we were all laughing at him. Bottom line is that Dole is the best teacher I ever had.
A good teacher, everything you need to know he covers and gives handouts. The class is extremly hard i have never put so much work in a class and still only got a C. Seems unapproachable, but was very helpful with me and even let me take a test in a private room when I was sick. Acco at MU is hard so i would recommend the guy that makes the test
He did a very good job teaching the topic, but was a little vague at times.
I took Dole for 30 and 31. He is the reason for my good accounting grades. Anything bad you've heard about Dole is false. Dole had "music Fridays", just ask him to play the DVD where he rocks out on the bass with his cover band.
Although he may lack phenomenal teaching skills, he knows his stuff. Asking questions in this class is key...as is going into his office hours. He may be tough, but the class isn't totally impossible. The handouts are helpful as is the course suplement, but make sure you don't rely on them too much, it could end up hurting you in the long run.

Very intelligent man. People who work hard will get a good grade. Anyone who says he is a bad teacher is simply mad because they suck in accounting. It's accounting, it's not meant to be easy.

Dole has no interest in helping the students, and flat-out refused to see me before class. HE is not very friendly, and assigns 4-6 hours of homework a night. Avoid him like the plague until this guy learns how to TEACH.
Very organized teacher. If you like a structured class this is it. I also highly recommend Dole if you plan to be an Accounting major because he will prepare you. Tests are very hard and homework is abundant but it is accounting its not going to come easy.
The class is streight forward. All you have to do is to keep up with the homework. Mr. Dole was very helpful, at least for me. Right now I am in ACCO 120 and I don't even have to study for the exams because I know everything from ACCO 30 class!
Very difficult class. Come prepared to work. I found that seeking Prof. Dole out before tests to be rather helpful. Stay on top of your homework or you'll fall behind quickly. Show up to class on time or he's likely to embarrass you on the spot or in the future.
Hard class. Kind of teaches you, but you'll be looking at the book for more clarity. And who the hell does all of the appendices for each chapter or at all for that matter? He does. Mostly all concept, multiple-choice exams are hell and back and then back again. He's not a bad person, but seems unapproachable.
Class is difficult if you aren't willing to work--keep up with homework. Class can be boring but its worthwhile. Dole will be helpful outside of class if you come with specific questions; "I need help with everything" won't get you anywhere. Funny and nice guy if you are polite and engaged.
Probably one of the most knowledgeable teachers in the business school. If you do the work that is necessary, he is a great teacher. If you slack at all, you will suffer the consequences. I would HIGHLY recommend this teacher if you are an accounting major .
Tough tough class. Did not do well. The subject is indeed very tough but he was not the best at teaching and explaining it. Often staired at the door or clock while teaching, odd. Like another commenter, he gave me a hard time when I asked for help right after class. Like "why are you bothering me" attitude. Tests were terrible. Hw took forever.
Prof. Dole will challenge you. His tests are very difficult and at times confusing but I must say I learned a great deal from him. He is approachable and helpful if you put forth the effort. If you want to learn a lot and want to be challeneged this is a professor for you. If you want an easy class look elsewhere.

Yes, his exams are hard, and the material itself shouldnt be so difficult, but I learned a lot from him. Pay attention in class and ASK FOR HELP if you need it. He was understanding when I went to him. Sit in the front row, or middle section if you can
I'm convinced professor Dole is the spawn of Lucifer himself. Why This guy teaches is beyoond me. Don't take this class. That simple. I had him 8 AM MoWedsFRi for a year, and it was torture. He locks the door at exactly 8 am, and 3 lates = an absence. He hates students like its his job. He is an awful awful human being. don't take this.

If you are looking to take an accounting class just for fun, then no, don't take Dole. But if you are an accounting major or your major expects you to understand accounting, then Dole is truely a great teacher. Yes, you need to do the work in order to do well, but when you do you come out actually knowing and understanding the material.
As a senior taking my last few accounting classes, I decided to go back and leave some comments. Dole is tough, but his tests are doable (I got As on 6 of the 8 between the 2 intro classes). You will study a lot but he does a very good job of preparing accounting majors, and all of the expectations are in the syllabus. Follow that & be fine.

All the people who post bad stuff on here are just r-tard students that can't handle accounting.Granted his tests do have same wording issues which make it difficult, but if you pay attention in class and do the work you will actually learn the subject and get a good grade. To be honest, Dole, is a good teacher who knows how to teach accounting. However, his exam is very hard/tricky but not impossible. Use the review pack/exam pack and go to his office hour if you have a hard time. That might help

Very tough class and dictatorial class room environment. Not helpful outside of class unless he likes u. Doesn't like questions in class. Doesn't get along with most undergrad, graduate, or other professors. He posts his own positive reviews to manipulate the system. I recommend not taking his class. Can be charming when he wants something.
Incredibly difficult for an INTRO course! Do not buy the exam review packet, as it is NOTHING like his tests. The tests are far more difficult. I think he gets enjoyment from failing students. Amazing how he's still teaching(his test averages are 70%). Unless you're some ACCO wizard, don't take him. Makes you reconsider your major. Cumulative final
Dole is the definition of "tenured and lazy". Also, he's just a rude person with a very rigid class structure and zero flexibility. Dole is my advisor as well and I don't even meet with him anymore. If you can avoid a class with him, do so. If he's your advisor, meet with Kren or Gruber or someone. They will be happy to help you.
Horrible teacher. He is rude and mean to almost all students. Not flexible with any homework assignment or excel problem you turn in. During class, all you do is go over the hw from the section you just taught yourself because he teaches nothing to you. AVOID
He is a terrible teacher. He simply reviews homework in class. TONS of HW, takes forever! Hates questions, takes off 8% of your grade if you miss 5 classes. Nearly half of his students fail each test. Takes forever to respond to emails. Funny guy, but that doesnt make up for his failure as an instructor. Expect 22+hr/wk study time to get above a C.
Terrible teacher. Makes you do homework before it is taught. then randomly grades it. Very picky with homework grading as well. The tests don't really relate to the HW. Dropped it.

Hardest class I've ever taken. I studied my ass off before tests and still averaged a C. You teach yourself the homework & go over it in class. He's decently helpful during office hours, but his hours are terrible (right after class) when they should be tuesday/thursday. He is however really funny.

He took 50% off of one of my homework assignments because the paper was casually wrinkled, but all of my numbers were correct...if that tells you anything about this guy. Music Friday? He just shows you videos of his terrible band playing at some dive bar, probably on Milwaukee's west side.
You teach yourself book and do homework, then he teaches you his way, which is different from book, and then tests are something completely different. Expects you to be able to back into problems, which is incredibly hard when you've learned it 3 different ways and are still trying to grasp initial concept. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, awful professor!!!!!
Any positive post is clearly him, I mean there is actually a picture of this guy posted, who does that? Any student who has had him would not say, "hard but fair," or "music day or bust!" I put in honestly 4 hours a night and still only manage a BC average, which he says is good? His test averages are a CD level that should say something.
I keep writing reviews solely to reverse Dole's own posts about himself. This class is extremely difficult. He laughs and cracks jokes when the class does bad on tests (which is EVERY test). If everyone refuses to sign up for his class, maybe MU will consider getting rid of him.
You have to teach yourself everything in this class. Never teaches ANYTHING, only thing done in class is reviewing homework as if he think it's enough. The sad part is that he always has a smug look on his face like he's proud of his teaching. Absolutely awful, I can't believe the amount of money you have to pay just to teach yourself.

First off, he is not rating himself so everyone calm down. Second, I have never worked so hard for a B in my life but I still got a B. He makes it tough and you have to put in an INSANE amount of time, but success is doable in his class and any business class after this will seem easy. FYI, I didn't really like him either or his teaching style.
Class & teaching was weird. I nor my classmates never felt comfortable in or outside the class(as in asking questions),seems the professor wanted it that way. The last post also seems strange. Not sure how they know if the professor is posting or not. I struggled & got a C. I took Kren for my next class & finally understood the concepts.
UGHH Dole is the worst! Thank god I only had him for Accounting Comm my senior year...if I would have taken him for intro I probably would have dropped my accounting major all together. Do not let him dissuade you from accounting as all of the other professors are awesome.
Great professor. Had Dole for ACCO Communications class. Do the homework and study. It should be noted that everyone takes the same tests as an undergrad no matter who you have, thus it is not his intent to "fail everyone" since everybody has the SAME TESTS. If you can't pas intro to Acco you shouldn't be in the business school anyways.

Ridiculous teacher. Avoid at all costs. You teach yourself everything (he only reviews the homework in class) and his exams are insanely over the top. The exams don't consist of the type of problems you are learning in the book or the stupid on-line Cenegage problems. It is impossible to gauge what will be on the exam.
The only way to do well in this class is to work extremely hard. He's a fair grader, but it is difficult. Dole is a nice guys though, and I think he prepares you for the field. It's one of those where you get what you give.
Any student who has to have him as a teacher for both Financial and Managerial accounting is at a significant disadvantage compared to other students. He focuses on trying to trick students and provides insane amounts of homework compared to other intro classes. His tests are very different from the homework and practice tests he gives.
Avoid this professor,he tries to trick students so that they get a lower grade by being vague when presenting directions for an assignment. He doesn't teach anything in this class and I honestly felt that Marquette should give me a refund for wasting a semester with this guy. He is one of the few professors that actually want students to do bad.
Took this class in HS and did all of the HW correctly. The material was so easy for me.. but taking this class with Dole made my life hell. His tests are ridiculously hard, the tests he makes us purchase for $15 are useless because they are so easy, and he has so many questions that try to trick you. Overall, the WORST teacher I have ever had.
I had 4.0 in college until I took his class. You could know the book like the back of your hand and you will still do bad in his class. His tests are designed to trick you. AVOID at all costs. Even if you know the material. I did learn in this class..but my grade doesn't reflect it. I took 2 years of Accountin HS but he was so hard anyways. AVOID
Dole is the best. You learn so much more from him than from the other accounting professors. Sit in the front row and go to his office hours so he gets to know you. He loves accounting majors. There is a lot of work and the tests are hard but everything is still manageable. I had Dole for ACCO 2031 too and would take him again.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Dole does know his stuff, but the way he explains it is very confusing. The homework assigned, and the practice tests provided are nothing like his exams. He sometimes also comes off as extremely condescending towards his students. DO NOT TAKE!!

Professor Dole is a great teacher. If you do the work every night, come to class, and study, you will pass this class. He is a really funny, cool guy, and he really knows what he is talking about.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Dole is willing to help but is very confusing. Very hard to follow and doesn't answer questions in class. He grades homework very tough...... Nice guy but kind of annoying to listen to in the morning. There are better teachers to get than him. Stickler about attendance, don't even come if you're 10 seconds late.
Dole tries his best but he is not always clear on the concepts and leaves a lot of the work to be self taught with a lot of homework. Any professor you take for accounting will always have the same exams so there is no avoiding them.
Unlike the popular opinion, I found Dole to be an extremely helpful teacher. He is passionate about his teaching and gives you easier ways to figure out problems. Yes, his tests are hard just like the other two teachers, seeing they all give the same tests. He's very intelligent & cares about the students. Accounting is hard no matter who you take.

Mr. Dole is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to accounting practices. If you put the time and effort into his class you should do just fine. Ask questions and take good notes, can't emphasize this enough. The exams are a direct reflection of the class material.

Dole is the worst professor I have ever met. He does not care about his students at all. If you are 5 seconds late to class, he will mark you tardy which counts as 13 an absence. He does not teach anything, he just goes over the homework assigned. Take anyone else possible. He is the most arrogant and rude person I have ever met. Do. Not. Take.
Do not take if at all possible. I had Dole for 2030 and 2031 and can tell you that he should not be teaching. Yes, he does know his stuff when it comes to accounting, but he CAN NOT teach. Dole is a one of kind guy. If you put in the work and do the homework he assigns, you can easily get an A. I took him for both financial and managerial and would do it all again the same way.

Mike Dole is the man. If you pay attention in class, and work hard outside of class you will do well.
Honestly he's an absolute genius. It is a bit tough to focus in lectures because there's so much information thrown at you all at once but if you don't get the material, go see him during office hours. He seems really intimidating in a classroom setting but one-on-one he's really caring and helpful. Also, don't come to class late.
