Great Professor, Very Entertaining

very smart, entertaining.
he is hard but hillarious
Clear lectures and assignments. Lectures can even be entertaining. However, he's not personable 1 on 1.
Great professor. Very entertaining and good lecture.
CAPA & Clickers suck! Watch out-this guy will talk down to you and treat you like a 10 year old.
FANTASTIC teacher, with hilarious in-class demonstrations and clear, effective explanations of all critical concepts. Was always receptive and respectful to questions that interrupted his lectures. CAPA problems were beautifully written.

Very funny lectures, very clear explanations of all the main concepts. The class sucks, not him.
He was the best professor I had at CU. I hated Physics in high school, but he made it so enjoyable! I never missed a class; it was always so interesting!
Never had him as a prof however he was very helpful in the physics help lab and I heard nothing but good things about him as a physics teacher.
He rocks, I loved the way he explained everything so well. Quite personally he is one of the best professors I've had.
I had him for both physics 1&2. Probably the greatest professor in CU, and being a triple major, thats SAYING something. Dubson simply writes fair exams and tries to help you succeed in the class. He makes Physics fun and uses creative demos. Dubson is simply excellent!
Hard class but best Prof. thus far at C.U. His lectures MAKE you want to come to class and his interactive teaching style reaches out to all students. Awesome Prof. and a must have if taking Phys 2010-2020.
awesome! his classes were so captivating and truely inspiring. i only took the class because of him :)
yes, his lectures are good. but, have you ever gone and tried to talk to him in his office hours? rude. for someone who researches education, he needs to get over himself to help a student in need. i have never been so offended by a professor as i was by dubson. it is never ok to make un-pc comments in a lecture, no matter how popular you are
Class are fun does a lot of really cool experiments and demonstrations. Class is hard though.
Best prof ive had at CU. Entertaining classes.
This guy is the man
Michael Dubson is probably the best professor at CU. He is very knowledgeable, and unlike many professors at CU is very good at bringing his knowledge down to your level. He puts more effort into his lessons than any other professor ive had, and his demos and clicker questions really help the learning process. One of CU's finest.
Prof Dubson this last semester was down right cruel. He pointed out students who did poorly in class, he berated the lass for telling him that we did not believe that the tests tested knowledge properly, etc.His notes are good, but his tests are meant to trick you. They did not test knowledge. He's a terrible professor.
Amazing! Down right amazing! Best professor I've ever had! He is the man! Go Star Trek!
So helpful and even though some people thought he "dumbed" it down too much I thought it was a good thing because not everybody is naturally good at science and he made it easy for everyone to understand!
Great Teacher! He had many awesome demonstrations, always explained things very well. He is awesome
Dubson is great. He makes lectures fun and has entertaining demos. He makes sure people understand what is going on in class and he makes it fun. He's a great professor. Take him if you can!
Absolutely excellent professor. His secondary focus is in education, and it really shows. Every part of his course is geared toward making students understand the sometimes-difficult concepts of physics. He carries my highest recommendation.
Awesome. I had already taken a lot of physics prior to having to take calc based physics, and Dubson made it worth it to come to class and even look forward to class every day. loved him.
Great teacher, entertaining, and actually cares that students learn the concepts.
Love him! cannot imagine a better teacher! He will make sure you don't fall asleep in a 300 people auditorium. Take him for calc based physics, and you won't regret it. I also heard he prepares students for GRE Physics - and does it well.
One of the most inspirational people on campus. A genius, leader, and a GREAT lecturer.
He is the epitome of that great college lecturer. Even if you find the material boring or you just don't want to wake up to go to class, he makes you want to. He is surprisingly funny. He knows his stuff and will make sure you do too. He stresses the concepts way more than the math and equations. This could be good/ bad depending on your strengths.
He is simply the best teacher.I really enjoy his art of teaching and wonderful demonstrations. However, the PHYS 1110 itself is not challenging. Not much calculus is actually used on class. And the recitation is super boring and uninspiring( personal view ).I want the honors general physics but it is only open to physics major students.Really a pity.
Probably one of the best professors out there. He goes beyond lecturing and creates an engaging atmosphere. The tests are no surprise if you study and go over what he tells you to.
Tremendous professor! He loves helping students and is passionate about the subject. Uses in-class physical examples to help teach and clarify subject matter. Tests are straightforward, no tricks.
A phenomenal professor who evokes interest in the topic. His teaching style is simple and straightforward. Seeing as he is actively involved in research that studies the teaching of physics itself, he understands what does and doesn't work when it comes to physics education. One of the most interesting classes I took in college.
The most helpful professor I have ever had. Crystal clear in lectures. Multiple choice exams
Worst teacher I have ever had. Continuously, makes fun of students for getting the wrong answer. He is not helpful at all.
Michael Dubson is an amazing lecturer and he can most likely hold your interest in physics and help you to understand it through lecture. However if you go to office hours or help room for one on one help, he tends to become a lot worse. He mocks you for not attending class even if you do and he generally is just unpleasant.
He is a funny guy, and I enjoyed his lectures. The lectures are very simple and cover broad topics; hardly useful for the CAPA assignment. I took all the practice exams as well as reviewed previous ones and still scored around a fifty. The help room is a joke as there are approx. 1,000 students in P1110. No curve on anything. Rarely avail. for help
Very intriguing and effective teacher.
Dr Dubson teaches methodically, is extremely clear and pedantic, and assigns no superfluous work. Best professor I have had; only professor I have bothered to rate. Thanks Dr Dubson.
Dubson definitely has been teaching physics for years, and knows exactly what students are confused about before they even ask questions. He analyzes each equation to make sure all the physics in it is understood. He is pretty funny too, going to lecture was never a chore. Strongly recommended.
Great professor. The lecture was large, but Dubson kept attention well. Funny. Go for his classes
Pretty Good
You will probably do much better in this class if you never attend class; his lectures are confusing and incomplete. He does not make himself available for one on one confrontation. Physics went from my favorite class in high school to my least favorite class at college. Frankly speaking, Dubson ruined physics for me.
Attend lecture, pay attention to clicker questions, and go over practice tests to do well in the class. If you do not want to read the textbook you need to have prior knowledge of physics. Otherwise you will be lost in lecture.
I support the statement that without a background in physics, the textbook would be absolutely necessary. Keep on your toes, even if you've already taken a physics course!
He is the best professor ever. Class is pretty easy. Awesome lectures. He's funny and the demos are always epic. He is definitely on my top list for favorite people in the world.
His lectures are great, and he is clear on what the expectations are. However, the tests are composed of about 40% trick questions, 60% testing whether you actually know physics. If you can't spot the trick questions, you can easily fail even if you understand the concepts.
Prof. Dubson - great professor. Truly enjoyed taking the Honors class with him this semester. He gave great feedback on our papers along the way and the discussions were definitely intriguing and thought-provoking. I've heard his LIT classes are also just as good.
Great lecturer, Just don't embarrass yourself.
He is the one that writes all of the notes that the other physics teachers use. He is not always clear with his lectures, but what's not covered in lecture is covered in his online notes. Not always engaging, but a respectable physics teacher.
I came across professor Michael Dubson's lectures on an online EdX MOOC by MIT and found them profoundly interesting and helpful. He has a very clear way of explaining tough concepts and i specially like his quizzes in between the lectures. An amazing teacher!
Great instructor. Clear, detailed, and interesting. Funny and lots of amusing anecdotes. Sorry he apparently isn't planning to so any more MOOC's.
By far one of the most inspirational teachers I have had, Professor Dubson gives clear, engaging lectures that makes you enjoy the material.
The physics department here is amazing and Dubson is the reason for it. His lectures clearly make you fully understand physics with his unusually perfect chalkboard writing skills. Everything is to the point and you feel much more comfortable with the material after he's done lecturing. Wish I could take Dubson every year.
As a biochemistry major, I found this course really challenging. I took honors physics in high school and still struggled. Dubson is good at explaining things, but this is a huge lecture so if you have questions you generally don't go to him specifically for help.
Best professor I have ever had. I went to him after almost every lecture, and he spent ample amount of time with me to ensure I understood everything. He told me he wished more students went to him for help. Very personable, and knows A LOT. I highly recommend him to everyone!
He's funny, charismatic, no-nonsense and does some brilliant demonstrations in class.
This class is scattered. Lectures, homework, and tests all cover different material at different levels. Homework, for example, is WAY harder than lecture (or even the tests) and takes hours. You may feel you understand in lecture and get clicker questions right consistently, but that doesn't mean you'll do well on the tests. All hail the curve.
Attend Class for Clicker Points which is a part of your grade. Lecture notes are very helpful print them.
Dubson excels at making sure you don't just get on your phone and stay there. While I definitely have passed many lectures zoning out due to monotonous professors or a lack of enthusiasm, Dubson keeps you engaged, entertained, and caring. Which, in the long run, means less studying and googling answers since you actually remember the lecture.
Very good at teaching a large lecture.
Dr. Dubson is one of the best professors ever. His lectures are fun and helpful. Everyone can enjoy his class while learning. (I took his PHYS1110 and PHYS1120.)
Incredible lectures, highly recommend him. When I struggled he was very supportive outside of class too.
Always finds ways to make lectures interesting and fun for students. Great use of demonstrations to help everyone understands the theory taught right before. May be this course in general but quite a bit of homework for lectures and recitations.
Dubsons an awesome teacher, clearly knows exactly what he's doing, very effective & entertaining lectures. Class is very hard, if youre not sure about physics beware of Calc 1&2 requirement for PHYS 1&2. Mastering physics takes hours and is way more complicated than anything else you'll see. Dubson is hardly available for help, go to help room
One of the best physics Professors !
One of the only professors I've had that manages to hold everyone's attention in a 300 person lecture hall. He's pretty funny and he has daily clicker questions which count for a part of your grade. As long as you do and understand the practice tests you'll do fine on the tests.
great lectures. as a lecturer, he is one of the best out there. every class is engaging and clear. overall, my issues are with the physics department as a whole. multiple choice exams are a horrible way to access knowledge, especially multiple choice exams filled with trick questions. dubson was awesome, but the class takes a lot of work.
Mike Dubson is very well respected by students in the physics department, he is known for engaging and informative lectures. He seems pretty down-to-earth and a nice guy too. You'll like taking a class with him.
Dr D is one of the best professors I have ever hard. He is so funny and engaging, you won't find a lot like him. The mastering physics hw is useless in terms of study material for the tests... so just find them online or something. His tests are similar in someways to the practice exam and read the lecture notes to study for the tests.
Clicker questions are set up to make students fail, and he laughs and tells you it is your fault you didn't understand and not his poor teaching. 40% of your class can not possibly be dumb, but he never looks inward to improve. He is so condescending and demos and personal interactions are sexist. Avoid, or watch Dr. B's lecture capture instead.
Dr Dubson is an absolute legend. He is the only teacher I have ever had that both knew the subject material to the highest level possible and was also able to be entertaining enough to listen to. He has an acute ability to explain anything to anyone, he has a very student-relatable sense of humor, he sympathizes with us, and he's simply genious.
Dr. D is the most enthusiastic teacher ive ever had. Every lecture i found myself laughing out loud because is so engaging. Good teacher and knows what he is lecturing about; however, what we learned in class had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what was on the exams. Be ready to spend hours on homework that makes no sense!
Its amazing how well he can teach such a large class. His lectures are great and entertaining and very similar to the tests. Im not a fan of physics, but he made it interesting.
LOVE this guy. Funny and charismatic, does fun demos in lecture. Class is very well structured. Almost like a flipped classroom with condensed and clear readings that cover all the material, and lecture/clicker questions to test understanding.
His online lectures are the best.
Great professor, makes lectures interesting and fun to watch for the most part.
Really engaging lectures, even in online format due to covid. Class is very hard but they give you a lot of tools to succeed and help is always available.
Due to covid, the lectures are just videos of old ones. There really isn't a good way set up to get additional help. The test are setup for you to fail and I think they know it because all you need is a 54% for a C-. The mastering homework is different and much more difficult than what was discussed in the lecture videos.
Worst experience I've ever had. Extremely rude. I have a strong GPA and put a tremendous amount of work into all of my classes, including spending time with all of my professors in office hours. It felt to me like Dubson thought he was above this, he just never gave me the time of day and always acted like I was stupid. I switched prof and got a B.
I do enjoy the online lectures but in terms of getting help for homework, it's nearly impossible. The help room is often filled with students and only one person to help. The mastering physics are very difficult and doesn't make much sense when compared to the lectures. The clickers are not helpful and the feedback he gives is to just try harder.
I don't know if he does this when not Covid, but I watched pre-recorded videos from a couple years ago along with the other 1000 students in my class. The pre-recorded videos were good, for what it counts, but I meant nothing to him. Merely a drop of water in an ocean of attendees
The majority is online, and extremely unpersonal.
Dr Dubson knows his stuff and his lecture notes are helpful, but his condescending attitude made me hate physics
Dubson Rocks
Absolute terrible teacher. He teaches physics as if everyone already has a PHD degree in physics. I re took the class again with a different teacher and it was so different and so much easier to understand. If you have the chance to not take his class, do not take it. He uses a chalkboard...take that how you will.
Really great prof when it comes to large lectures, but one-on-one he's pretty bad. I often went to help room when he was there and witnessed, several times, him being quite condescending and unhelpful to myself and others. Acted like he couldnt believe you didnt understand the info. TAs not great either. Good prof if you think youll never need help
Dr, Dubson is the best professor! If you are taking PHYS and have the chance to have him as your professor, it's a must-do!
Dr. Dubson is the goat no cap
Dope class with great high energy lectures!
I love physics2 but his clicker questions during lecture were really confusing. I don't think it helps my understanding at all. The purpose of physics to make you understand how it works and solve more complex situation from there. I don't like how the coursework were alot and not helping for exams so you just need to revise the clicker question.
This class was the hardest class I've taken. The tests were nothing like the homework or lectures. Most of the time grad students and other professors couldn't even make sense of the questions being asked. They set you up to fail unless you have 6 hours everyday to study physics. The homework was overwhelmingly a lot and took multiple hours to do.
Dubson is a great professor who makes his lectures really fun and engaging, albeit full of clicker questions. Tests are important, but they're much easier than homework and you get a cheat sheet. Lectures skippable w/ online materials. I had only minor gripes with bad course organization, recitations, and homework. Overall, pretty fun class.
Some of the classes are so fascinating, so full of awesome demonstrations, and so infused with Dr. Dub's (aptly named because he only takes W's) inspiring excitement, that they feel almost like an educational theatrical performance. This guy is great, has perfected his teaching style, and clearly loves his students; and that love is reciprocated.
Dubson's class has a specific learning system, but engaging with it pays off. Go to lectures, use the free textbook, and try unstuck ai - it really helped me prepare for exams.
great prof
Both 1110 and 1120 Dubson lectures were very informative and fun to listen to. He has great demonstrations, uses clicker questions to engage students, and helps with understanding topics before or after lecture. He teaches difficult topics very well and if you pay attention you are guaranteed too learn and get a good grade.
Great lecturer. It is clear he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the courses he teaches. He does clickers to do attendance credit, and 2-3 HW assignments a week. He can be found outside of class, but recitation and the help room are good enough.
Super entertaining prof, lectures were somehow even better than PHYS1110 with his demonstrations (like electrocuting a pickle). Truly a dub for Dubson.
Probably one of, if not the greatest, teacher I have ever had. Lectures are always interesting, and he does a lot of demos in class to explain some hard topics. He does concept tests during the lecture to keep you engaged. Not a lot of homework, but sometimes it's very hard. Tests make up the majority of your grade, but they aren't terribly hard.
