Awesome
He is a very helpful and approachable teacher, he will do a lot for students!!
He is willing to help you anythime even if you have to call him at home!
Very easy to follow, lectures don't drag on. Chem 111 with him is easy if you've taken any form of chem before.
Teacher is very approachable. I caught the flu and he gave me his home phone number and attempted to reach me to help me with an assignment.
Great teacher.
Nice guy. Very easy on tests. My two test grades thus far are 104 and 110. Chem 111 is easy anyway, but he makes it even easier (by teaching, not giving)
Very very helpful and will stay after class for questions and is open to phone calls at his home. great teacher
Dr. Dukes is awesome, He truly wants to help you understand. Only teaches night classes, but he will stay to help, and gives you his phone number, and encourages you to use it. Great guy, Great professor, He explains well and is patient.
He is a great professor....very helpful to all students!
Dr. Dukes ROCKS! He is very helpful AND clear. His lectures make sense and he speaks English.
He makes the class easy, and gives a lot of extra credit. He is an excellent teacher.
hard class made easy by an awesome teacher. go to every class and do all capa problems. lets you make a note card with anything on it to bring on test days. copy questions and answers off of the practice exam onto note card and you'll make an A.
Dr Dukes is an awesome teacher. He gets to know his students personally. He is very willing to help his students.
This is the easiest and best chemistry professor. Trust me. He let students use a note card for each exam and lets you use 3 cards for the final. He gives big bonus points on the test and gives extra for the final. Dukes teaches very well.DUKES IS THE BEST
Dukes is the best CHEM teacher. He is very clear and gives his best to explain things in the simpliest way (the way I like it). Very Helpful! Make sure to do capa, it will help your grade tremendeously! NOTE CARDS on every test! Even the FINAL! I got a B
Trust me. This is the easiest teacher for the class. He is better than Freeman. A person should be ashamed if they come out of this class with anything less than an A or B.
Dukes made chemistry so much easier that it could have been. The class is at night but its easy to get an A if you study for the tests and do all your CAPA. And Dr. Dukes is so nice and he's great teacher. I wish he taught 112.
He's great, he stays after class to help you until YOU understand the work.
Willing to help. Presents his lectures in a very clear way...very easy to understand. I never understood chemistry in high school, but he has helped it really click. Tests are very fair with no surprises. If you have to take Chem111, take Dukes!
Awsome guy...and has a great sense of humor. Always keeps the class fun! I definetly recommend this professor for chemistry 111!
Great teacher. Very helpful. Take him, he is AWESOME!
great professor, makes chemistry easy to understand, very helpful.
Awesome teacher and easy class! He's a bit scatterbrained, but overall he's very helpful and funny. If you have to take Chem 111, definitely sign up for Dr. Dukes!
all I have to say is take this class. If you don't pass his class then you need to get slapped. Dr. Dukes explains and goes over everything that is going to be on the exams, plus there is not attendence but you will love going to his class.
He is absolutely great! I recommend this professor to all students especially those not very science-oriented. Easy if you simply go to class, do the practice exams and Capa. Tests are very fair and possible. Funny teacher and very easy to talk to!
Dr. Dukes is AWESOME! go to lectures and do capa and you will make a 100 in the class! I would take this class for an easy elective! Give's lots of extra credit, always willing to help. I never read the book or studied and I'm making a high A! anybody who gets below a C is an idiot
Tooooooooooooo Easy, I'm taking some easy electives that are harder than this course, tons of extra credit, lectures are fun
Goes out of his way to return calls and emails!=o)
He is the best teacher of all time I love the way he cracks jokes and gives extra credit. If you go to class and do CAPA you'll make an A!
This is the best professor I have ever had!
GREATEST CHEM PROFESSOR!!! Tests are soo easy! Gives TONS of extra credit!!! TAKE HIM!!!! he is so helpful....always willing to stay after class....such a great and funny professor!!!!!! GREAT CHEM PROFESSOR!
Outstanding teacher! Going to his class is analagous to attending an "educational comedy show." Like everyone else said, if you're not into science, take this as an elective! CAPA isn't bad either, it helps you more than you think it does. Salute to the best teacher in the world: DUKES!
AWESOME TEACHER!!!! Went way out of his way on a Sunday to call me back about a Chemistry problem. The Capa isn't hard if you attend the Capa Help times! He will stay after class until everyone has their questions answered even if that means an extra hour. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT! IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL
He was wonderful. I enjoyed his class very much. He was very helpful and dedicated himself to his teaching. This is a man that actually likes his job and it is reflected through his teaching style and dedication. The class is fun as well. Hes hilarious
Dr. Dukes is not only a wonderful teacher but a wonderful person. He is a true definition of what a teacher should be. He is always willing to help and is so extremely patient. If you have trouble with chemistry this is the teacher to take.
Awesome teacher! Nice and is willing to help and listen!
One of the best professors u can get, he curves if necessary too. he's always helpful even if on vacation, just call him up and he'll take time to work out capa with u.
I love chemistry, and this class was tough... i thought I was going to make an A, but instead, I only got a B :(
For Chem 111 I would highly recommend him. Great professor for entry level chemistry. However, I feel for chem 112 was tremendously tougher than others like Freeman.
Great teacher. Very helpful and likes to make jokes. He's old yet cool. His tests are not too difficult, make sure to review the practice tests. Most of questions on exams are from it.
Course can be difficult but with this prof VERY easy....GREAT prof, GREAT person in general....love the class and loved him as a teacher...take him for chem.....
This guy is so awesome. He lets you use a notecard on every test and three notecards on the final exam. He is funny, and he doesn't keep you longer than he has to for you to know the stuff you need to know. There were several times he let us out early (but I had him for an evening class, so he was probably tired). Really GREAT professor.

Fantastic professor who cares about his students. He offers study sessions before exams and even has tutors available to help with online homework.
You rock my face off!
he is actualy a nice person but the class is hard
Very fun class to attend. He cracks jokes and really gets the students involved. He is also very willing to help if there are any questions or concern.
one of the easiest chem classes ever. you'll do well as long as u do the practice tests. the class is really not that bad. capa sucks tho
I'm taking this class for the second time but having him as a professor can help anyone get through it. He realizes that everyone isn't quick to learning the math we do and is very willing to answer questions and help students. Got a B+ on the first and "hardest" test. Stay away from Freeman.
Dr. Dukes was a wonderful professor. I would suggest that anyone taking Chem 112 take this professor. He is a patient man and always willing to offer extra help. He is very passionate about his students actually learning the material. Just study the study guide and you will do fine in his class.
Nicest guy ever, and is always willing to help you with anything you need. Really fair and understanding as well. The class is easy as long as you can either read the book and learn it or go to class and do the practice tests. one of my favorite teachers here that ive had so far. Super friendly and loves his students and likes for them to do well
Dr. D is the best professor i have had here at USC great for university 101 and i plan to take him for chem and Dukes if you are reading this there is your chilly pepper you handsome sob
Really cool guy who wants his students to do well. I admire anyone who can make an intro chemistry course moderately exciting. He's one of the best.
WOW what an aewsome professor. too bad he doesnt teach any higher up classes like 321 or inorganic chem. Dukes definatly is 'da man'
Great Teacher! Made the class interesting and funny even though it was an evening class. Do the practice exams and you will do well in the class. I learned more in his class this semester than in Honors Chemistry 103.
Excellent Professor, Great Guy. This material is in no way easy but Dr. Dukes somehow makes it bearable. Gives a worked out practice exam before every test and lets you have a note card. He also keeps the atm. pretty lite and usually lets out 15 min early. Material is hard, so ask questions, he likes that. If you have to take this class get Dukes.
The material is not too hard, and the tests are not too bad since he will give you a practice test. He is not interesting and he does not give a fair final grade.
Dr. Dukes is SUCH a good teacher. If you just do your OWLS, pay minimal attention in class, and READ the chapters(you will not use the book at all in class) ...you will be fine...I wish the class didn't have over 300 students, that is the only downfall, but Dukes is really willing to help you out...
This is a really hard class. You really have to put all your time into chem to do well. if youre takin overload I would suggest takin this class in the summer because it takes up a lot of time. and the owl is supposed to be only like 20 questions as it is on the syllabus but its really like 65 hard questions you& can forget about any extra credit
Great guy loved his class. I was not as intrested in Chemistry unitil meeting Dr. Dukes but ya gotta love him I took him the first semester of my sophmore year and still visit his office till this day. Like I said he is willing to help and really cares about his students!!!
really nice professor, helped me out a lot considering i was actually enrolled in another class but ended up taking his after the drop add date because my other professor was not the best. he gave me great suggestions on studying, but chem is really difficult for me so a C is definately fine by me. take him if you can.
Dr. Dukes is the best Univ 101 professor you can get. He relates well to students and knows what hes talking about.....will talk to you with respect rather than talking down to you
he was great at explaining things. my only complaint would be the owl hw bc some of it he doesnt teach or test on so its pointless and takes a long time to do.
He is a great teacher, I really enjoyed his class. He is an awesome person and I suggest going to see him outside of class, even if its just to talk to him about something completely unrelated. There is a practice test and you get a notecard, so there really are no surprises. Just be careful because some of the questions are tricky.
Professor Dukes Rocked. I didn't have a very great chemistry background, but I found the class fairly easy. He is definitely a good choice to take for chemistry 111.
Dr. Dukes is a really cool guy. Read the book and definitely go to SI. No extra credit, but he does give practice exams----Do them! OWL really sucks but if you do it then it really helps your grade. I didn't do very hot on the test 1 or 2, but I made a B+
good professor, very easy, dont need to pay attention, just do your OWL and you will get a good grade
Not easy. You have note-cards but it dont help if u dont know what the heck your doing. He gives practice tests the lecture before the test and they are IDENTICAL to the real test. the owl really blows, and so does lab, but if u just work the practice tests over and over you should do well on his tests.
Dukes is an outstanding teacher and has an awesome personality. He's easy, but not so easy that you don't learn anything and he explains concepts very well. If I asked him to explain something, he usually made it seem so simple, I felt dumb for not having understood the first time. He's also interesting to talk to about unrelated topics.
GO TO SI SESSIONS! THEY ARE THE ONLY WAY I GOT AN A IN THIS CLASS! Prof. Dukes is a good teacher and a really nice guy, but SI practically hands you the test and gives you the answers...AND it really helps you understand what the heck is going on in class.
If you don't show up for every class and takes excellent notes, you won't do well. Otherwise, if you study a few weeks in advance for the test and stay on top of things, you'll be fine!
Great chem teacher. This class so interesting and informative I really didn't mind having class till 8 on Thursday nights in the dead of winter. The OWL can be frustrating, but that's the program, not the teacher. He gets his TA's to take attendance every class, but that wasn't really an issue. Don't fall asleep, though, you will be made fun of.
I got to know him very well. He is a great professor that you will want to get to know. I have an A in his class. Just go to class, study, go to lab, and do OWL homework and this class is a breeze!
A very good teacher and he doesn't try to make the class difficult. If you make an effort and attend your labs/do OWL, you'll be fine.
wonderful chem teacher! very helpful. great class even though it was a night class it was the only class i looked forward to. explains the material very well. answers questions and helps you as much as you need. test aren't bad at all. and neither was the final. take him!
Dukes is awesome. He explains things very well and is a very fair on his tests. He's pretty funny, too.
he's a really good teacher. he's very easy to understand and has a good sense of humor. make sure you do owls though. definitely take him even though its a late class, its worth it.
DR DUKES IS AMAZING HE IS THE BEST CHEMI TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. HES ALSO ADORABLE! =) HES VERY FRIENDLY AND WILL HELP YOU IF YOU NEED IT
You will have to study hard for this class. I recommend going to SI sessions because you will learn a lot from them. Dr. Dukes is a great guy, so I suggest you take him for you chemistry class. Good Luck
Dr. Dukes is a great professor. Tries his hardest to make his test easy for his class and is very straight forward. Take him!!
Dr Dukes is hands down the best professor at USC. He is very helpful and extremely funny. you will love his class. I recommend sitting in the front he is very interactive and it helps a lot. Oh and no joke do the owls!! he did reopen them for us bc he felt bad but i wouldnt count it that. his test are easy, for the 1st 1 read the section.
Dukes is great! His lectures are informative and he has good examples. He is very good at answering questions but you may want to sit towards the front, his mic always seems to go dead on him! Just read the chapter and do the OWL and your all set
Prof. Dukes is a great chem teacher! He is really funny and the tests are pretty easy.
Dr. Dukes is an awesome professor, the only bad thing about this class that it was at night. Go to the si sessions and you will have an easy A.
I hated chemistry, but he was a great teacher and really taught the subject well. He's kind of funny, a cool guy, and attendance isn't mandatory. If you're even slightly inclined to science you'll do great in the class, if you aren't like me, then you'll pull a B easily
He is a great teacher overall
Professor Dukes is great! Do the OWLs and take good notes and you're set to make a good grade. He makes sure that help is available to students that need it. Sometimes tests are a little tricky, but not hard. Take Dukes if you want to have a good experience with chemistry.
Dukes is an awesome professor!! He cares about what he teaches and cares that the students understand it and get their "money's worth". He is also very very helpful. I highly recommend him!!!
Dukes is an awesome teacher!! He is very funny! He is also extremely helpful and is easy to get in touch with if you need help or have a question. He gives practice tests and if you do that and understand it, then you will be fine for the tests! Def take him if you have the chance!!!
GREAT professor! Take him...even though the class is at night. Super nice, and is great at explaining the material. The tests are exactly like the practice ones. The material is easy for some, hard for others. Either way, the SI sessions or Dukes will help you sort things out. I did well, and I didn't consider myself a chem person coming in.
He is the best very helpful. All you have to do is come to class do ur aleks/owl and do his practice test!!! He is wonderful and sweet if you fail his class it is bc you gave zero effort! :-) <3 his class! Wish i cld have him for organic!!!!!
Dukes is definately the best teacher you can take for Chem112, but don't think hes too easy. You have to study!! Aleks is horrible and very time consuming so start early and do a little everyday. Go to SI as much as possible. Also, get old tests from someone else. He keeps the tests really similar. Study the practice tests and you'll be fine.
He is such a sweet guy! I loved his class. I never read the book or even pay attention in class. But for the exam i always copied the worked out practice exam small so it can fit on a note card and i ended up with a great grade. Great for the amount of effort i put it. :) TAKE HIM!
Dukes is great. He's real easy and you don't have to work to get an A. Unfortunately, he uses ALEKS which bites. It is horrible. Make sure you find out if your prof is using ALEKS, then find someone else.
Dukes is the man. Go to class and do the ALEKS homework and you'll be fine. He posts also posts practice tests that are very helpful. He was a pretty funny guy as well. The only thing I didn't like about the class was that it was at night, but it ended up being worth it.
He is a great professor! Dukes will go out of his way to help you if you talk to him about concerns. ALEKS is worth the equivalent of 1.5 test grades so you have to make sure you take it serious from the beginning. As long as you stay on top of it though its not bad. He gives practice exams that are really helpful too.
I got an A in the class. With that being said, many people found the class to be time consuming and difficult due ALEKS. You get a note card for each exam and three for the final in CHEM 111. He takes attendance, but everyone would go anyways because of the difficult nature of chemistry. Strongly recommend!
Dr. Dukes is a great guy! He is fair. NOT EASY, but fair and is willing to help you if you are trying and helping yourself. He does use a harder homework system called ALEKS but if he sees that you have put forth effort he will not let your grade suffer. READ THE BOOK! I cannot stress this enough! I have not had chem in 5 years and got a B.
He is a great teacher. Listen to all of his tips. Do all of the ALEKS it will bump you up at the end several points. Do his practice tests and make sure you know them. Go to class and SI it will help alot. I made an A but you do have to work. Overall he is great I am taking the next class with him. He can be kind of rude to students who leave early
dukes is a great professor. Make sure you do ALEKS, it does help your grade and understanding. go to lectures too. He's very fair and explains things very well. Do the practice exam before tests and it helps a lot.
2 things......Dukes knows his stuff and 2 he is one of the greatest professors I have had. You will absolutely love him! Go to class, go to lab, do your aleks, and READ your book and you will make an A :)
Great professor, teaches the principles of chemistry with great examples, which allow the student to understand the principle from a different perspective.
Dukes is an excellent professor. I graduated with a degree in Marketing management and had not taken Chem since 1999 when i was in 10th grade. Got a 70 on the first test and A's on all the rest and including a 100 on the 3rd test and the final. If you dont do well on the first test dont sweat it. Go to the SI sessions.
Dukes is a funny guy and knows what he is talking about when it comes to Chemistry. However, his class does require a lot of time, hard work, and dedication. It's no easy A. Attend every class and READ THE BOOK! Oh and ALWAYS do Aleks. If he knows you do these things, he is a lot nicer with your grade!
Dukes is a great teacher! only thing sucks is his class is at night.. but it's worth the sacrifice since he lets you use a notecard on every test!! GO TO SI! SO SO SO helpful! a lot of times the questions gone over in there are word for word the ones on the exam!! read the book. he likes to do random MC ? from definitions and such! TAKE HIM!!
This guy is the best. I took him for 111 and 112 and made A's. 112 is not an easy class but Dukes explains the material so well and wants his students to succeed. He is by far my favorite teacher at USC so far. Do all of the ALEKS (yes it sucks) it can raise your grade at the end by 5 points. Dukes is by far the best for 112 take him if you can!
Dukes is a great professor! I took him for 112 and he can clarify the 112 material very well since it can be intense. Go to recitation and take the quizzes. The TAs there are helpful. Si sessions are also helpful, especially before an exam day. Also, don't skip class. He still takes attendance. And you'll miss out on alot of information.
The man knows how to relate information to the student and tests are extremely fair. Although the material is fair, he will still challenge you in basic chemical principles. Best teacher of explanation of logic behind chemical mathematics yet!
LOVE DR. DUKES! An email he sent me at the semester end in 211,"Yeah you are a real pain! So the 3 additional points get you to 692 out of 800 or 86.5%. 87% is a B+! But, I forgot the 5 points extra credit because you tell great jokes. Actually your ALeKS and recitation grades were outstanding. I turned in the paperwork to change the B to a B+. "&
"Yeah you are a real pain! So the 3 additional points get you to 692 out of 800 or 86.5%. 87% is a B+! But, I forgot the 5 points extra credit because you tell great jokes. Actually your ALeKS and recitation grades were outstanding. I turned in the paperwork to change the B to a B+. " -Dr. Dukes .. he sent this to me at the end of the semester!
Professor Dukes is AMAZING!! He is hilarious, tries to keep class as interesting as possible and will go out of his way to help you. I have so much respect for him, definitely the best to take for 112!!
Dr. Dukes is great! He lets you take a notecard into every test and attendance doesn't really matter as long as you do your aleks and make pretty good test grades. If you know someone who took his class last year, get their old tests!! He hardly changes his tests from year to year. Good luck!
Dr. Dukes is a great professor and overall an awesome person. I've had the pleasure of taking both 111 and 112 from him. He genuinely enjoys teaching and chemistry. His passion for chemistry and his sense of humor made class something to look forward to (worth the evening class time). Definitely take dukes for a great experience in chemistry!
Awesome professor. By far one of the best chemistry teachers I've had. He was funny and made the material very easy to understand.
Dr. Dukes is a great guy and a great professor. Genuinely enjoys chemistry and is a lot of fun in class.
Dr. Dukes is funny, enthusiastic about chemistry and a great teacher. Exams are almost identical to previous exams/practice tests. He is helpful outside of class and has a great SI leader. Take him!!
Dr. Dukes is a fantastic teacher who wants to see all of his students do well in the class. Chem 112 isn't the easiest class but if you just pay attention and do your work, then it shouldn't be much of a problem. Also, he keeps telling us to read the book before class, but I never did and made an A. I recommend him for sure.
The best chemistry professor at USC, I enjoyed his class. Not a walk in the park though, make sure to study if chemistry isn't your specialty
Dr. Dukes is the best teacher for Chemistry!! TAKE HIM! The SI Sessions help and if you go to 2/3 of them he bumps your grade half a letter grade at the end of the semester. The exams are similar to the old tests! He is always willing to help after class and he is funny. He relates all material to real world things! Great teach!
Professor Dukes definitely the BEST PROFESSOR for Chemistry. He likes to tell jokes and make the class extremely interesting as well as easy to understand. You would make an A for his class, TAKE HIM!
DUKES IS THE BEST!!! He's so funny and he makes Chemistry fun to learn. Dukes really cares about his students, and his exams are really straight forward. Take him!!
Everyone talks about how great Dukes is, but I dont think hes that great. He flies through the material, but if you go to SI, it will save your grade. Do the practice exams. You can make a notecard for each exam, and 3 for the final which helps. Attendance isnt mandatory but he gives iclicker quizzes which helps your grade.
He's a really nice man who is more than willing to talk with you outside of class and give advice pertaining to his class. However, this class is far from easy, especially if you are not a chemistry expert. SI sessions with Heather were not particularly helpful. Dukes is a great guy, but do not expect this class to be as easy as people say.
Dukes is an awesome guy. Jokes around a lot. Very helpful when it comes to questions about your test grades. Provides time to come ask questions after class.
He is awesome! Yes chemistry is hard, but you can have a notecard, and SI sessions. Even though I have not have him since freshman yr, I am still telling people to take him for 111 and 112! He is really great!!!
Very nice teacher! Absolutely loved him for Chem 111. He was very helpful, if you have the chance to take him.. TAKE HIM. He's the best at what he knows
I cannot brag on Dr. Dukes enough. I took him for both 111 and 112. People say that 112 is so much harder, but I thought it was incredibly easy. If you like math, you will love Chem 112. READ THE TEXTBOOK. You will love Dr. Dukes he's the best... but Heather won't be the SI leader anymore.. so you're all screwed. ;)
Great teacher and wants all of his students to do well. Not a fan of his SI leader but she's gone now. 4 exams with i-clicker questions almost every class. Listen to what he says, it'll be on the exam.
Def the best chemistry teacher at Carolina. Really wants his students to do well and his enthusiasm for teaching this class really helps make this difficult class easier. iclicker quizzes, recitation quizzes, and owl really help your grade. The practice exams are very similar to the tests. Take Dukes if you you want to pass 112 with a good grade!
Dukes is the best! Do all of your OWLs and he will drop your lowest test grade. Sit in the front or at least make him learn your name. My exam grades were 72, 83, and 93 and a 90 on the final, and I got an A in the class (without any test being dropped) because I did well in recitation, decent in lab, did all my OWLs and went to class. Take Dukes!!
Do the OWLs, review the sections in the book and you are most likely to do well in the class. Dukes is a kind-hearted guy that will help your grade out, if you put in the effort. Take him for both 111 and 112 if you can. P.S. the book is crystal clear in concepts and the math, so READ IT!
AWESOME teacher! If you pay attention and do your homework the tests aren't that hard. Even if you didn't do too well but did really well on the final he tries to help you with grades!!
AMAZING PROFESSOR. I failed the first exam and still ended up with a B+ in the class. He really tries to help you out. iclickers and owls definitely boost your grade. it's a tough course but i definitely recommend Dukes. oh and READ THE BOOK. that definitely saved my grade
Dr. Dukes is probably one of the best chemistry professors at the university. He is funny and genuinely cares about his students. He also takes notice in interest level. Do the OWLS and don't be afraid to correct his mistakes when he works out problems (he actually likes it and will laugh). He's always willing to help after lecture.
Absolutely by far the best teacher I ever had. Sad to see him leave. He always made class fun and interesting with his hate jokes about Clemson! Take him if and when he comes back!
Dr. Dukes was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He teaches you everything you need to know for the test and lets you use a 3x5 card on the test. Write the formulas and whatever else he tells you to on the card. If you have questions go to him after class and ask for a meeting. He will meet with you and help you any way he can. Take him@
Dukes is hilarious and an amazing professor. He is extremely kind and is always there to help students. The class is easy as long as you pay attention in class and study the power points.
He's really confusing so don't take him if u have never chemistry before. Read the book, lecture notes and you should be fine. Attendance is not mandatory but iclicker points help your grade. OWLS suck but just do it to get an easy test grade.
Amazing
Very clear and helpful. Will help you do what it takes to pass.
While I am going to finish with over 100% in this class, I wouldn't accredit it to Dr. Dukes. While he is a very kind man with a lot of knowledge, I found myself very confused and EXTREMELY bored during most of his lectures. That being said, it's not a hard class, but his tests can be a little tricky. Read the book; you'll probably need it.
Dukes is super nice and willing to help if you ask. -3 exams (100 points each)-- Read the book, lecture notes, practice problems. -OWLS (100 points) --- didn't really teach me anything. -iclicker questions ( 50 points)-- easy points if u pay attention in class -Final exam (200 points) it will replace your lowest exam grade
His lectures are pretty dry, but not much you can do with 150 lecture. The book also will help to explain some harder concepts. However, he is willing to help you if you have questions, his tests are not that hard if you prepare at least a day in advance, and he does give about 20 or so extra credit points over the course of the semester.
It's going to be a little challenging but if you go to him he will definitely try to help
Dukes is a great guy, don't get me wrong, but his lectures are dry. He reads straight off lecture slides and doesn't work out problems with you, rather he has them already worked out for you to copy down. Sometimes he gets confused with what he's even saying. If you force yourself pay attention, you'll be fine.
Excellent Doctor.
He is a great professor who is very entertaining in lecture. If you want to do good on his tests, you should read the chapters in the book. If you ask Dukes for help he will definitely help you when you are struggling with the material. Plus if you go to class everyday he gives you 25 extra points on your grade because of iClicker quizzes.
Long lectures but easy course and instructor
Dr. Dukes can put you to sleep if you don't have your coffee, but otherwise he's a solid chemistry teacher. He mostly just reads from the course notes, but he's pretty good at stopping to answer questions and go over examples to make sure you understand. His extra credit quizzes were very easy if you were awake, but the class material is not easy.
His lectures were long, but very informational. Everything is right there in the workbook so you really don't have to open the textbook to study. He gives practice exams that are very similar to the actual test. He will give a thorough explanation for all questions asked during class. Great professor!
Lectures are long and dry, but he explains it well and answers questions thoroughly. Reading the book helps tons, and the homework is online and takes awhile to complete.
I took Dukes for 111&112 two years ago. His lectures can get a little boring because he just reads his PowerPoints but if you go to his office hours he will definitely help you. He also writes amazing letters of recommendation for med/pharm schools so you should get to know him.
Best professor I ever had. Such a chill and cool professor that really cared about his students.
