do yourself a favor....dont take this class, He is a very nice man, but he isnt the best teacher.
His lectures are engaging and interesting. He really knows his subject.
He's interesting but very hard to follow, he never keeps on track with his notes and confuses the entire class. The class is easy because the tests are very easy and he gives you study guides and a list of possible essay questions. Not THE nicest guy.
He was a very very easy grader and i enjoyed coming to class very intersting. He knew his stuff!
Overall, he's a good teacher. His lectures are a bit scattered, but he definetely knows his stuff. Tests are very easy-he gives you what you need to know, and he also gives you the essay questions. I definetely recommend him!
Good class, very easy, he gives you everything you need to know for the test already outlined plus the essay questions. Lectures are good, he knows his stuff, and is sort of random and crazy very funny. I would take another class from him!
Fun professor-likes to joke around and has friend with the class. He is an expert in his subjects. He also provides alot of interest and speculation by giving his opinion on some subject matters! Easy tests and easy class. If you are a history major though- you might want a harder professor!
He is an ok guy but very very boring!! honest to goodness everything he says in class you can read in the book and still do great on the tests. Whenever he asks you something and you answer it wrong, he looks very dissapointed. Can be discouraging. But I've had worse.
Good class. Kind boring, but he knows what he's talking about. Very clear and very helpful if you show interest. Funny guy. He knows just how too shut up the kids with annoying questions.
Can be a little boring at times, but he is pretty funny and will keep your attention when it is needed. There were quite a few films compared to most history classes which is a bonus. Tests and homework is a breeze if you even slightly read.
I have mixed feelings. He is a funny, dry kind of guy but he can get extremely boring. He's great at telling people to shut up when they ask stupid questions. Some of the videos were very gruesome and nauseating. Overall, a decent teacher.
The man is a bookfull of historical knowledge. He had great insights and his ability to run the class I found to be exceptional. His overall knowledge and insights are what struck me the most. Great teacher for any who want a detailed look at our history.
He is super easy very nice and helpful take him he is the best i loved it:)
Come to class, sign your name on the sheet, either leave, or go to sleep. He does not read the homework you turn in, so you can just make up stuff. The two tests are rather simple just study 30 minutes the night before and you will get an A. Although, class is boring if you actually stay to listen
very funny, likes to put on movies,1 essay per week
mr. dusik is a VERY nice teacher-you have 1 essay a week due-but he doesn't care about plagerizing or anything-the movies you watch are interesting-even if history BORES you-he gives a handout before each section of chapters..if you look at those before each test-YOU'LL DO FINE..nice guy EASY class!
funny as ****, and always making jokes, He's an awesome teacher, and makes the class fun and makes it go by fast. Awesome ****in teacher
Very good instructor, class was not hard. only 10 response papers for homework, they are not graded based on writing style, just content, everyone gets the same grade on the papers. Midterm and final are only tests, he will tell you the essay questions. You will have to work hard to fail this class.
He is such an easy teacher. We have an essay due each week that we could just copy and paste from the internet and he doesn't care. You could sign in and leave and he will stll give you attendance points. i would do my other homework in front of him and then leave with in a half and hour of the class. Definately take him.
Used the history class to spout off his political beliefs as facts on a very susceptible class. He did not think highly of his students, nor did he challenge them. His motto was "I don't care if you plagiarize, i don't expect you to have your own insights anyway." That does not make a good teacher.
Easiest class i've taken in COD. You can pretty much copy paste HW assignments(due weekly) off the net and he'll blindly give you full credit. A very generous Test grader too. Course material is incredibly dull though and he lacks the lecturing skills to keep the class awake. But if you don't mind being bored an hour a day to get an A, take him.
I think this man concentrated way too much on emphasizing history through his own political affiliations. he said at least one thing a day that personally offended me and I think he needs to be fired! But his teaching methods are fine.
Interesting class if u actually pay attention. Sometimes its hard to stay awake. Its very easy. Just make sure u read the text and u will get an A in the class.
He's very good teacher, will help you out when you have a question. The tests are very easy all you have to do is read your text, take notes and everything else is easy. But will try to get the class involed as much as possible but if overlook that everything would be easy.
Very Biased. Looks at everythign from a conservitive stand point. Says many offensive things. But is very eays however. Good class to take it you can stand 50 minuets of boredom and offensive beliefs.
Good teacher overall. Very easy grader and doesn't assign much homework. A refreshing change of pace from the typical liberal teacher! There were only three tests that weren't too bad. No group work. Overall, a good / fair teacher- I would recommend him, especially if you don't find history the most fascinating subject!
Dr. Dusik is an incredibly passionate teacher. At times, when discussing a topic obviously close to his heart, his eyes would water up and he had to pause to clear up his throat. He was indifferent to his students, I assume due to his disappointment in today's youth. He taught facts, but challenged students to make their own educated decisions.
Cool guy... his lectures make a lot of sense
Interesting and very comprehendible. Conservative, but not offensive- just informative. Doesn't care when the work is turned in, as long as it is. Over all VERY EASY A. All you have to do is show up! I didn't buy the book, never took notes, and got a 93% on the midterm with minor studying the night before. recommended and would take again.
I would recommend this course to all of you. Lets just say that he managed to get me interested in history, a subject I had previously written off as extremely boring. The class is easy; only a midterm, a final, and some easy essays.
this dood is the best man! he just talks and talks and you can fall asleep and you wont miss anything. Every week you just have to write a short response paper and theres a midterm and a final thas about it. Totally take him
Mr. Dusik does a fine job explaining the materials he uses the projector for pictures of art and maps, most of the lecture he speaks is mostly memories ed. he also likes to use films. most of the grade you get in this class are from essays you write they're very easy just Google the info and you'll be fine. midterm & final very easy JUST READ!
Easy teacher, five- three page papers due, along with a mid and final. Never read the book. Grades attendance. Easy to get full points on the papers. I took early American History to 1865.
Very easy teacher, just do your reading. Most of the grade is extremely easy essays. This guy could annoy liberals (hes a republican and makes political comments), but welcomes disagreement so long as you have an argument. He loves teaching and loves it when students participate, say a word here and there and he will love you. I highly recommend.
If you're simple minded enough to be offended by someone with viewpoints differing from your own, would not recommend. If you've got a good head, this guy is great. I think about what he says for the rest of the day after his class. Wonderful teacher and an incredibly smart man. If you take offense to what he says, lighten the hell up will ya?
Lets you turn in papers late, and gives you a 100% as long as they meet the minimum length. He does not read them. Very easy class. Points for attendance.
He is a really great teacher, his assignments are beyond easy and honestly he makes history so neat and puts it in a perspective in which everyone will love. i want to be a history teacher and he just makes me want to be one even more. He honestly doesnt care if you come, but its like worth 13% of your grade. i hope i can get him fornext semester!
Very passionate about history. He can lecture very well and he's great at explaining why things happened the way they did. As long as you read the text and pay attention in class you'll do great on the tests. I never studied and got an A on the midterm. Assignments are easy too. He looks kind of like Taft.
Easy teacher, took 4 different history classes from him. Always does lectures because no one ever really participates. Requires up to 10 2-page papers depending on the class, but only the length is important. Two tests that's it. Ask him anything about gold (price, use as money, etc) Knows a lot of stuff, conservative and not afraid talk about it
Super Easy!Class can be boring at times if you don't really care for history. Had him for US After 1945.Does a great job of relating all the material to the present-day.Never used the txtbk.Only hw is 2pg papers on dif. topics. All you have to do is pull info off of wiki.No deadlines.Midterm/final was a breeze.Overall, interesting class.
This class is soo easy! He is Super nice and very helpful. However the class is very boring. U have to go to class because it counts but it drags that is the only bad thing. other than that it is all papers and two test. A midterm and final. He collects late work which is nice. He is also a easy grader. Take this class!
REALLY NICE GUY!!! his class is super easy!! you have to write 8 papers all two pages long, is really into the subject and expains things really well, hes really easy going people walk in 30 min late and he doesn't think twice about it, he does seem to get ticked when people ask him questions about the syllibus or questions he thinks are stuiped.
Great professor! For the 1140 class there are 10 papers which are two pages long. 2 tests; 1 midterm and 1 final. Does care if you are late. I turned like 3 papers in late and didn't have a penalty. He gets frustrated with the class when no one participates. Highly recommended!
One of the worst i have ever had. Lectured entire class period..didn't give us notes, powerpoint, nothing. Made us write 8 papers on books i've never even heard of. Really bad class and really bad teacher.
BEST TEACHER EVER. you can come in late and does not care. 10, 2 page papers with a midterm and a final. Easy grader and turn things in late with no penalty. Very easy but it does get boring because he lectures all period just bring something else to work on!
Seems like he is always in a bad mood. Never asks the class any questions. There is no participation at all. You never know what chapter he is lecturing about. The multiple choice questions are extremely hard. He never sums up the lecture or says "make sure you remember..."
Coolest teacher ever. Very nice guy and really knowledgeable. Also has a sweet stache!
Nicest teacher ever!! Cares a lot for the subject. Always willing to help if you need it. Subject is kind of dull but he's an easy grader. You'll get a good grade if you show up and do the work. 5 essays- as long as you write them its perfect score. Excellent teacher!!
Awesome teacher. Loves the subject, loves when you participate in class. Doesn't care if you show up late, but he does get annoyed by people who are frequently tardy. Your only homework throughout the semester is 8 two page essays, which are super easy and don't require any citations. The first history class i've gotten an A in since middle school!
Knows his subject well. * two-paged papers(easy 20 points each) so to class each time and get 40 points for attendance. A mid term and final. Just basically pay attention to lectures(even though it was not to interesting in my opinion) and you shall do great. Take him for History
Took Dusik over the summer and heard good things about him prior to being in his class. Very nice guy who makes history somewhat interesting. Eight two pages papers (20pts each), midterm(100pts), final (100pts/can use a notecard cheat sheet) and attendance is mandatory (40pts). Can leave early once he passes the attendance sheet out. Didn't need bk
Easy teacher, only 7 papers that were opinion anyway worth 20 pts. and midterm, final 100 pts. But lectures are pretty boring, i always ended up doodling in the class to keep myself from falling asleep.Other than that he is a nice teacher, and is willing to help if you are unclear about something.
Cant say enough good things about Prof. Dusik. You can tell he cares about history, and it shows during class. Every class is a lecture, which can get boring at times, but they are all very informative. The class is very easy. Basically do all your response papers (write anything on topic) an he'll give u an A on them. I got an A an barely tried.
Mr. Dusik Is SUCH A delight. Amazing Man. Every class is extremely interesting. He is very passionate on history, while making things relevant to the present day. Wants to make a difference in the world, and is very informant on whats really happening in the world. His rants on the government are priceless. Absolutely loved him. TAKE HIM
Very good lecturer and a very easy class, though he's a little bit of a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist type. Spent an entire class going on about U.S. involvement in Syria and how the government is a massive military industrial complex and then tied it back to Puritanism and American Exceptionalism. LOL. Interesting though. Makes you think.
Relatively easy class. Easy grader on tests. 10 2 page papers as homework. You can basically copy from wikipedia for them. Interesting lectures, even though he presents an anti liberal view of American history i.e. all republican presidents were good all democratic presidents horrible
Professor Dusik is a really easy grader and the papers are super easy to write. There are only two exams and for the writing section he gives everyone a 100 on them. Really easy A and I thought he was really interesting. You should definitely take him!
Grading is 40% 2-3 page opinion responses (he gives 100% on every paper turned in), 25% midterm, 25% final, and 10% participation. Exams are half multiple choice and half essay (again, 100% as long as you have some idea what you're writing about). Nice guy, but if you're a liberal some of the things he says in class will make your head explode.
Most boring class I have taken at COD. I would never even think to take one of his classes again. He's sososo smart though, but his lectures were painful. Only consists of about 4 papers and a couple tests.
Most boring class I have taken at COD. His lectures were painful. He is a really smart guy but it was not a class that really got you to learn anything. You just sat there and listened to him talk. I'm pretty sure he knew none of our names.
He's got a sweet mustache. He's a little rude and his lectures are controversial topics, but interesting but he's relatively easy: several two-page response papers due on assigned reading (just do the two pages and it's an A), and only two tests: midterm and final. Tests were relatively difficult, but he gives you a lot of study guides which helped
Dusik is a great teacher! There are 8 super easy 2 page response papers. Not even papers, basically you can use Wikipedia and you get an A. He has the best perspective about citing sources and he doesn't make you do it at all. Great teacher! Lectures are long, but you don't really need to go to them to pass. Definitely will take again!
Solid teacher. Lectures are not super exciting, but he does have some interesting insight. The class consists of 8 2-page papers, a midterm, and a final. You do need to study for the tests if you want an A, but the rest of the class is very easy.
Amazing teacher, very knowledgable. I Absolutely loved his lectures, he makes history interesting. If you are not looking to learn anything and just want an easy A i do not recommend this teacher for you, but if you want to expand your knowledge Mr. Dusik will answer any questions you may have, AND his stash is wonderful :)
Great guy really knows his stuff, Has opinions that you wont agree with but its an easy class
Mike Dusik is a Great teacher and really knows his History. Loved his class and would take another class he teaches any time. I learned a lot in this class. VERY INFORMATIVE !!
Easy A. Full points for late homework
Honestly the best professor I've had so far, incredibly knowledgeable and covered everything in his lectures so well to the point where i never had to open the textbook for anything. And hes interesting enough to where you won't fall asleep during lectures ever
One of the greatest teachers I have had in my life. If you have a question, he will go in depth and make sure that the class understands. He is not your typical teacher who expects you to believe in everything he says, his points are always backed by evidence and he encourages students to question what they are taught.
Professor Dusik is very unique at COD. He encourages you to question the world around you and why it is the way it is. I have a feeling that many students might feel he's condescending, but I believe that he certainly is not meaning to come off that way. He values and appreciates participation, which is hard to get out of students, so try to do so.
If you hate education as a whole and are looking for a class to learn absolutely nothing in while getting a guaranteed A, then look no further than Professor Dusik. The class has 8 essays (2 pages each), a midterm, and a final. The essay are completion based and the tests are cakewalks, but the class is more boring than anything I've sat through.
Amazing teacher. Took him for Western Civilization and U.S History classes . If you're looking for a class where you're looking to put little effort into getting an A, this is the prof. 8 papers for the semester, and you could write basically anything about the topic as long as it is 600 words and receive a completion grade.
western Civ to 1690. Not a bad class- didn't expect a lot of the things I learned about! It was an 8AM class so I definitely wasn't in my best mood, but it's simple-attend, do the work, and STUDY. the exams aren't hard at first but be ready to write on the back. I watched 2 gentlemen drop at the first study guide but I got a 94% in the class
Mr. Dusik is a really nice guy. He gives study guides for the midterm and finals. But don't heavily rely on the guide, sometimes he asks the short questions as well as multiple choice from the topic outside the guide. But the essay questions are pretty much given in the guide. And his lectures are some what boring, but he will makes you think.
Professor Dusik is a great professor. He goes on very fun tangents but makes them important to the class and the lecture. If you don't attend class, you better read your book, but if you attend the class the book is completely unnecessary. There are 8 papers that you have to write but he doesn't care if you plagiarize them. Overall great teacher.
Best class. Having the book is a good source to have. He grades really well and this is a fun class. You have to do 8 response papers a midterm and a final paper that's it.
Like other reviews have said. this man is a g no test. no final exam. the way he wants to know you've learned is through writing. 600-800 words but there are usually 5 questions so that helps. He really is a kind soul. if you have adhd or anxiety for test taking. I highly recommend this dude.
Professor Dusik is very kind and genuinely cares about his students. If you are ever confused about anything, he will be more than happy to help you out. There are a total of 8 response papers, a midterm, and a final essay that are graded, which are relatively easy to complete. Hands down, one of my favorite professors that I have had in a while!
Professor Dusik is an outstanding teacher! I thought that I loved History BEFORE having him as a professor, but I positively ADORE and respect it even more now! It is a must to attend for Live lectures, but he makes his lectures interesting and it is easy to stay tuned the entire class time. 8 Response Papers & Mid-Term & Finals are also essays.
The only time consuming or "hard" part of the class was the amount of papers. 11 papers total- 8 response two page papers, 2 midterm two page papers and 1 two page final paper. Personally, id rather take tests and quizzes. Professor is nice and flexible which is definitely a plus and is not strict on participation, due dates or attendance.
A very lecture-based professor who encouraged participation but did not really try to engage with students. There's pretty much a paper due every week but they are not difficult to write, and he is a very forgiving grader. No mid-term or final exams, only two large papers that he gives two weeks to complete.
Professor Dusik was by far one of the best professors i've had.He has a great personality and genuinly cares about you/your grades. He describes topics in depth which is helpful because it helps you really understand the topic and makes the class work a breeze. If there wasn't a word limit on this i could keep going 11/10
Mr. Dusik is an excellent educator. His positions and points of view have been molded by decades of experience. He is blatantly honest about his own biases and openly invites open, mindful conversation. He truly cares about his student's success and focuses less on what happened in history and more on why and how it has affected the present.
He cares about his students, and the class is elementary. Take him if you can look past him voicing his strong political views. He doesn't enforce his views on you or penalize you for writing your essay with other views. He does, however lecture with and show videos that have clear bias.
Very kind, is very understanding that the topics that are covered in this class would be very hard to write about with out having at least some plagiarism. He plays some fun informational videos in class that are engaging. Would take again!
Mr. Dusik is a very nice guy and clear about his topics. He has certain views that seem to be more right leaning on the political spectrum. If that is a problem for you, you may still want to take this class because it is an easy class without any tests or finals. Unfortunately, Mr. Dusik may have retired as he had mentioned it a couple times.
