Boring lectures--he mostly shows videos and reads off Wikipedia. In addition, his grading criteria is unclear on written assignments, and the syllabus and schedule on Learning Suite don't match each other or what he actually does in class. Take this class if you want a pretty easy but boring class; if you're interested at all in learning, don't.
Prof Easterling is an amazing guy and a great teacher, but he expects way too much out of a 2 credit class. Tests are insanely hard and there's lots of written homework. I learned a lot but I almost drowned in the workload.
Professor Easterling is a good guy, and he really cares about what he teaches. But he is not very organized. His writing assignments were unclear, and he didn't update the syllabus when he updated the assignments- so if you miss the one class where he explains the assignment, you won't be able to do the work.
Professor Easterling is a really nice guy. He wants his students to have a good experience in his class. He wants us to have fun but we are also challenged to learn. He helps push his students to excel and will be seen by some as a hard grader because of that. You will cover a lot of interesting things in his class.
Prof Easterling is fun, tough, interactive, enjoyable, caring, and pushes you to be a better student. The class was fun. We covered everything from art to Graffiti, from classical music to rap, ballet to break dancing, philosophy and social issues. We even read part of a graphic novel. I would definitely take anither class from him.
So here is the thing with Professor Easterling. First off he is awesome and cares about his students. He is kind enough to grant assignment extensions to studemts that ask amd explain why they need it. Also his class is not hard. Want to get an A? Go to class, take notes & participate. He tests off of his lectures for about 90-95% of the test.
Prof Easterling is a very caring guy! His class is a lot of fun. He cares about this topic. I really didn't want to take a Humanities class but needed the GE credit to graduate, but his class was super fun, informative, and would definitely take again!
Honestly one of my favorite professors so far in my college experience. He understands how it feels to be a student & relates with us empathetically. He enjoys the material and makes it enjoyable and relatable for his students. Not super difficult, do the work, go to class & you will be ready for the tests. Definitely take his class if you can!
Good teacher. Not the best, but I've had far worse. I would for sure take a class from him again if needed.
Tough teacher, but you really do learn a lot. Lots of great class discussions. Don't skip class, the tests are mainly from the lecture. I really enjoyed the material covered and would definitely take a class from Brother Easterling again. He is funny and will crack himself up which is funnier. But most of all he relates with his students.
At first I sold him short, perhaps because this is an intro class. Come to find out, the man was a pro break dancer, owns a big business, and has extensive knowledge about his subject matter. Lot of respect. Class itself was pretty easy. And Easterling, if you're reading this, I did the music prep the night before everytime, and got 100% on each HA
Professor Easterling is a good professor. He makes you work for the grade you get. But his classes are fun and students are encouraged to share their thoughts and opinions on the subject at hand.
Professor Easterling is a wonderful teacher! His class can be tough, but the more you do the readings, attend class, and participate the easier it becomes! He give amazing lectures that provides today's real world context to several topics from hundred of years ago, why art matters, and the exploration of the human existence. He is a must take!
Horrible test writer (tests aren't very fair). Goes on rants and tests you on material he didn't cover because of rants. The class is very test and quiz heavy, and he will brag about how consecutive classes have all failed certain quizzes. Currently, only one person is scraping by with an A in my spring class. I'm 6% above the average with a B+.
Michael is a great professor! The first like three months we had almost no homework! Once the quizzes started you do have to do some readings, but it's not difficult. His lectures are hilarious and I have a great time in his class. Just make sure you go to class, a lot of test questions are based on what he says in class.
He is a very interesting man, but really likes to rant. The tests are extremely difficult if you skip classes and you should probably write down everything he says, even if it seems obscure. If the TA has reviews, GO, that is the only reason I passed the class. He's terrible about grading in a timely manner and a significant score is participation.
Great professor, great class, would take again. Go to class and its really easy. Nice to have a professor that treats you like adults rather than kids. Seriously awesome lectures. I would absolutely retake a class from him. One of the assigned reasons was Maus (a graphic novel) and that was fun.
Easterling is a great lecturer & I learned a ton from his class. Upsides, you don't have to buy the textbook and the material is interesting. Downsides, there were always things on the test that were never covered in class so you had to go to the TA review if you wanted a good grade. Overall, good class to take if you need to get GE credit.
His lectures are amazing and he makes you want to come to class. There are two essays and little homework, but amazing class! Would take again.
Professor Easterling is one of the best teachers I have had. He is very cultured and has interesting insights on the world. Lectures are compelling and he adds depth to the content. You do get graded on participation and he doesn't post any slides so the only way to get the notes is by coming to class. Tests are not the easiest, but manageable
Prof Easterling is an amazing professor. He is insightful and passionate and keeps it real. The subject is extremely interesting and you will become a more well-rounded individual if you take this class. He doesn't post slides, so the only way to get the notes is by going to class. If you participate and put in the effort, you'll get a good grade.
I loved this class! I learned so much about the artwork and cultures post-Renaissance and people in general. He is a great guy who is really passionate about the subject matter. NO heavy reading or homework! Just 2 papers and a group project due at the end of the semester. I had so much fun this semester, I'll really miss his class. 11/10 DO IT!!
I recommend Easterling to everyone. It was an enjoyable class because he only teaches about things he likes. If you go to class and take notes, you'll get an A. Homework is very minimal in this class as well.
Honestly I'm baffled his ratings are decent. He is by far the worst professor I've had. He refused to update the grades, tests on material he doesn't cover, requires participation but belittles each student that asks what he considers a 'dumb' question. Terrible with communication and not willing to work with you. Do NOT take this class from him.
So...I have no idea what these people are talking about. Professor Easterling is the bomb. Super cool, good lectures, loves what he teaches & honestly cares about his students. He worked with me so that I wouldn't fall behind when I had to leave town and couldn't be in class. I think so of these sour grapes maybe from dumb students. Take the class!
I loved taking Professor Easterling's class. I got an A and he did make me work for it, but he is a real gem. He is more than willing to go above and beyond to help any student get an A in his class as I can attest. Very nice guy. One of the best things he told me is "this is college, what you did in HS was nice but now you have to raise your bar."
I am a humanities major, so maybe it came easier to me than some others, but the class was great. Simple and easy to follow, we studied a lot of very interesting things. I really enjoyed learning about graphic novels & feminism in his class. Also really enjoyed the group project at the end of their term.
Professor Easterling is super cool. Very accessible. He cares about his students and was willing to work with me when I needed him. If you can you should definitely take his class. Went over fun stuff in his lectures.
So i didn't get the best grade in the class but probably had something to do with me taking this as my last class to graduate. What I will say is I never liked the Humanities until I took Professor Easterling's class. He showed us some many incredible things! I would recommend!
Easterling tests based on what is interesting to him, not what matters, so we memorized his favorite art pieces and other comments he made. His manner is condescending and rude towards any commenters he doesn't agree with. Tests and quizzes are full of trick questions. Easterling promotes communism, which does not align with the values of BYU.
Easily the best and most interesting GE class I took at BYU. I'd take him again, but I've graduated and am off to work in the real world. Seriously this guy cares and is super nice.
The class was hard but only because I dont really understand art and the humanities and that stuff. As a math major I dreaded taking this class but Easterling was great and made the class fun. Very understanding and will work with you. I missed a couple quizzes and he let me make em up. Lectures are fun, he love to having fun with us.
Found the difficulty level for professor Easterling's class to be right on par with 200 level classes at BYU. Very enjoyable lectures, he doesn't just show us art & to memorize, he dives into the history of the painting, the artist & asks us to share our observations. He is always saying that everyone's point of view matters. Cool guy that cares.
Prof Easterling really cares and is willing to work with you when you need extra help. He can have a condescending tone when responding to comments but you gotta realize that he doesnt mean it. He is a good guy and wants his student to succeed. If you attend class and take good notes youll get an A. I enjoyed the class. Very reasonable grading.
Awesome professor, very caring, fun and interesting lectures. Super grateful I took his course!
Professor Easterling was awesome! His lectures were very interesting and I learned so much. He doesnt have us buy the textbook which is so nice and the readings he assigns are short but really cool historical documents that were very interesting. His tests were very fair and come straight from his lectures. He has extra credit opportunities!
I loved his class, his grading is very merciful, and his teaching is quite engaging. If his class has a seat, sign up ASAP!
Loved Professor Easterling's class. He engages with all of us students. Asks for our input all the time, and I really liked how he would push each of us to think more about our answers by pushing back and not just allowing "primary answers". I am grateful for teachers that make me really think.
Extremely rude to students. Grades very subjectively. Absolutely no guidance on deadlines or guidelines for assignments. There were two really awesome classes during the semester, but mostly class was hard to get through.
just another humanities professor at BYU that thinks they are the first person to play Devil's advocate to BYU students. He doesn't write his own tests, all copied from other professors, and gets lots of information incorrect. When students would point out his mistakes, he'd make up some excuse. He says he's not a hard grader, but don't believe him
Awesome professor. He loved making us think about things. I love how he realted so much of this to us as students. I'm not a humanities guy, but Ioved him and would definitely take his class again. I learned a lot.
I have honestly never had a professor that cared about his students so much. He is easy to get a hold of and he wants to help his students. I got a B+ but honestly without his help and mercy I'd have gotten maybe a C- if I'm lucky. I had serious personal issues and he went out of his way to help me. Also the classes I was at were awesome. Thank you
Loved Professor Easterling. Class was awesome. I learned a ton of awesome stuff about the Humanities and really about society in general. Sorry he class was very straight forward, he is funny, likes to play around, provides plenty of chances for extra credit, and I really enjoyed his lectures. He asks questions and will push back to make us think.
10 star review!!! I loved the class. Seriously Professor Easterling is a lot of fun. I definitely could have gotten a better grade but as I am graduating this month I admit to slacking off more than usual - sorry Professor E. But for real people you have to take GE classes, so take one that in entertaining & educational. I learned & had fun.
Professor Easterling gave great lectures, and i learned alot of stuff i really had no idea about before. Fun class. He truly cares about his students and helped me alot. If you need the GE course i advise that you take his class.
Loved the class. I graduate next year and this was my last GE course. Professor Easterling was really nice and had nice lectures. I just went to class and the test were easy for me.
Brother Easterling is a good guy. Has a good class. Genuine with students and super relatable. The only reason I select test heavy is because a large percentage (40-50%) of your grade comes from the 3 tests. However, they're very doable if you attend class. He also let me do a couple make up assignments.
This class is the best humanities class you can take at BYU. Michael Easterling gives great lectures, and demands just the right amount of work. The 3 test you take aren't bad, there's two big essays that you have to turn in on the class day of class, but otherwise the reading is light and there's virtually no homework. You won't regret this class.
Real straight up class. Lectures have all the info that's on the test, so take diligent notes. Most readings are short. The two longer ones are enjoyable, you fly through them. Professor Easterling is clear in what he requires for the larger assignments. He wants you to ask questions/for clarification, so don't be afraid to reach out!
This professor really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. There is almost no homework. With the 2 papers that are due, hes willing to help you make sure they are on the right track before you turn them in for a grade. Really reasonable if you have questions or concerns, just email him. The lectures were really interesting too!
Good teacher. His class is great. I selected "Skip Class? You Won't pass." because almost everything on the tests come from his lectures, which are actually very enjoyable. He has a great sense of humor, although I think it might be lost on some students over Zoom. He let me make up a couple quizzes I missed for personal reasons. Nice, very nice!
Professor Easterling passes my review (unlike some other professors). Guy is a stand up guy. Actually cares about the students as much if not more than he cares about the material he teaches. Real solid people person. He was understanding of everything going on in my life and did all he could to help me navigate the semester. Thx chief!
I love this guy! What a class. Just finished today. Best gen ed class I have taken at BYU. Cool professor. Nice. Caring. Seriously go to class and get an A and learn some cool stuff.
LOVE Professor Easterling. He's respectful, reasonable, and truly cares about students. If you go to class, participate (you can just volunteer to read a slide if you're shy), and take notes, you'll get a good grade. Easy, fun class.
Just finished his Humanities 202 class, for my GE credit. Very worthwhile class. Good teacher, teaches some pretty interesting stuff. Spring Term class are 3 hours which can be tough but that is the University not professor E. Yeah I'd take a class from him again.
I really like Professor Easterling. Good class, good material. Yeah, that is his review. -The End
These lectures were really boring with a high expectation of participation. This professor makes you feel belittled and expects you to have lots of knowledge on the subject. Exams are hard and based off the lectures so takes lots of notes and do not space out in class!
Loved this class. Awesome lectures. 3 hour class is tough but that is Spring and Summer at BYU. Seriously loved the class and Professor Easterling. Everytime I reached out to him he helped me, if I had questions he gave me great feedback. Great experience for me.
Really enjoyed the class. Professor really made the tests straight forward. Quizzes are straight forward as well as long as you actually do the reading. Good class. We talked about a lot of important issues and I saw how the Humanities relates to and interprets our world. Also I was 5 points away from an A and he helped me out. Thank you!
Awesome class. Only book I had to get was a graphic novel, which that is cool. Seriously really enjoyed everything Professor Easterling shared. He is a good guy and was easy to work with when I had to make up a couple assignments.
Let me say that without Professor Easterling I would have probably failed this class. I had a lot going on personally during the Spring Term and he was understanding, easy to contact, and willing to work with me. He talks about empathy a lot in class, but it's not just talk, he believes it and practices what he teachers. I am super grateful.
I can't speak for anyone else but this class was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heart emoji Professor Easterling!!!!!! Yeah, for real.
I like professor Easterling. I enjoyed his Spring term class. He helped me with my writing. He helped me with my thesis statement and really explained how important it is. Never had anyone do that before. He would help me with a lot of feedback and so great instructional questions. I felt like he really cared about me as a student and person.
Michael Easterling is a good professor and loves what he teaches about. It is a really good GE class that helped me understand why the humanities are important. He introduced me to a lot of things I've never seen or heard before. He is also very nice and very considerate of everything that we as students have going on.
Yes, yes, yes. 100%. Professor Easterling is a great teacher. Loved his class. If I can take another class from him I will. Bet.
I took his Spring class. Straightforward class and what I expected from a general education class here at BYU. I thought Professor Easterling was great. Very kind, very understanding, respectful and understands what it is like to be a college student. I would definitely take a class from him again.
Great teacher. Great class. If you can take his class, take it. I would take a class from him again in a heartbeat.
Great teacher! For real I loved his class and Professor Easterling is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Definitely would love to take a class from him in the future. He really cares about his students and about what he teaches.
Professor Easterling was awesome. Great class, great teacher. Really cared about us, and was very clear with his expectations. I will be looking to take more classes from him in the future.
Professor Easterling was a wonderful professor. He was engaging and ensured all students had the proper resources to succeed. He provided help in as well as out of class to make sure we are successful not only in his class but in our future classes as well. Professor Easterling will forever remain my favorite Professor.
Don't skip his class. Good lectures and you learn a lot. Awesome professor. But don't skip if you want to pass. You to class, pay attention and you will do good on the exams.
Easy A. I went, I saw, I got an A. Pro Easterling is a good guy and teaches a good class. He cared about us and wanted us to learn about the humanities. I actually learned a lot just by going to class. Not difficult.
He is amazing and i recommend any student to take this class. His lectures are powerful and emotional and he gives his all every class.
I did not want to take this class because I don't do "art stuff". I was dreading having to memorizes names, dates, and art works, but this class was so much more than that. I absolutely loved it, and loved the wat Professor Easterling taught the class. He really wanted to engage with us rather than lecture us which was refreshing. Great class.
Professor Easterling gave amazing lectures. I had his class during the summer, so it was three hours long and I was still engaged the whole time because of how good he is at lecturing. He is also very helpful and will provide extra time outside of class to help you if needed.
Great teacher. Heavy lectures but exams are all based on lectures. Reading assignments and quizzes occur almost weekly. Professor is very interested in working with you, giving advice for papers, offering extra credit, etc. The course is difficult if you procrastinate but if you stay on top of things and take good notes you will succeed on exams.
Great teacher and I loved his class. Really opened my eyes to the human existence. Fun group project and some basic research assignments. His lectures were very interesting and covered stuff that was fun to learn about.
Very informative lectures with lots of note-taking. Tests will be hard without notes but pretty easy if you take good notes. The professor is extremely helpful and gives good feedback for papers and quickly responded to emails. He would interact often and make class entertaining. A grade is given for participation. Not tons of homework either.
Professor Easterling is amazing! He was quick to respond to emails and genuinely cared about you and your success. It is clear that he is passionate about what he teaches. This class covers a lot of information and exams are hard, but if you take good lecture notes and study, you will do well. His rubrics are clear and he gives great feedback.
I loved professor Easterling's class. Clearly he loves what he teaches and to shows in how he teaches and interacted with my class. The class wasn't hard for most, but not really what I shine in, but I got a B+ because he was willing to work with me. The guy cared about me as a student and a person. Two thumbs up.
Everyone should take a class from him. Work is what you might expect. Lectures, readings, quizzes, research paper, group project, exams. Nothing out of the ordinary. But his lectures are great and with everything being straight forward it is an easy A. I appreciated his class a lot.
Professor Easterling provided an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in his class. He really helps his students reach the AIMS of BYU, for which I was extremely grateful. IHUM 202 requires that you put forth effort and energy; however, Professor Easterling cares that you succeed and is willing to work with you if you are struggling. 10/10
Awesome teacher. I hope all my teachers here at BYU can be like him. He was one of the teachers for my first semester and really helped my understand what I need to do and how to be successful as a college student. I felt like he really cared about me as a person.
Great guy. I'm glad I was able to take his class. He loves the material, the subject, and his students. He gets an A from me.
Easterling is great. Easy to communicate with and contact outside of class. He loves what he teaches with is nice, made the class more interesting for me. Easterling also cares about his students. It was refreshing to have a professor that viewed us as people rather than just students. Very respectful and honest with us. Funny.
Loved his class. Great lectures. I didn't want to take any Humanities classes but he really made it worth while.
Professor Easterling is great! His lectures are effective and funny. He also is clear on what things he tests on. The class was fun and I learned a lot.
Really cool teacher that really cares. Kind of refreshing TBH. I am not really into the Humanities, but I'm really glad I took the class from him. He made it interesting and I honestly learned about real life. More than once this semester I was really moved to positive action to make a difference. Also funny.
Great professor, and I really loved how he Humanities, different from what I imagined. Love his class. Would absolutely take another class from him, not boring at all. Great lectures, and he wants us students to participate in the discussion.
THE. BEST. PROFESSOR. Seriously the best class I've taken at BYU.
Just had a great semester with professor Easterling. Never knew I like the humanities until his class. He just made the lecture content come alive and make sense. I thought it was going to be boring because it was a humanities class, I was wrong. If I can I'll for sure be taking another class from him in the future.
Cool guy, good teacher. Love the material he covers. Made the class fun. Thanks Professor Easterling. Recommend to all.
Loved his class. Not even a question if I would rake a class from him again. Absolutely YES!
Great professor. He loves BYU, what he teaches, and his students. We are lucky to have him here at BYU. Everyone should take a class from him. If I'm honest he is one of the best teachers out there.
I had friends that recommended I took his class. I am so glad they did. He is wonderful. I loved his class and the passion he brought to the subject matter. I didn't think I would enjoy the humanities as much as I did, but he really made it worth while.
Great teacher. His lectures are important to passing the tests, so don't miss class and you should do well. Also his lectures can be really inspiring, at times I felt like he was talking directly to me. Loved his class.
Professor Easterling is the best teacher I've had at BYU. He's a passionate guy and knows so much about the humanities. I always looked forward to going to class and was inspired by him more than any other professor. Tests are easy if you take notes on the lectures, there's 3 big assignments for the semester, and minimal readings. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Made a big deal about respecting students; showed low respect to us in practice (interrupted us, discouraged late work, punished whole class for a few cheaters). Focused on appearing "cool/relatable." Made up answers when he didn't know them. Grading criteria for some stuff (esp. "rush writes") made no sense. Class material felt randomly selected.
The best! I hated my other humanities classes that I had to take. He was fun, cared about our class, and made the material come alive. He was very helpful for me, meeting and answering my questions. Give extra credit chances & that also helped me. I seriously felt like he cared about me as a person and a student. He wanted us to learn & be better.
I loved professor Easterling's class. Really inspired me to be a better student. I didn't expect to learn everything I learned from a Humanities class. I would love to take another class from him.
I just got done with this guys class and it was truly great. I'm graduating soon but I wish I would have taken it earlier in college. He give a lot of perspective. Yes he wants us to participate but the class discussions actually become pretty fun. He was always telling us that it's okay to be wrong, but you have to learn. Fun class, good guy.
I just took professor Easterling's IHUM 202 class this spring, and I honestly don't think I've ever had a teacher that cared about his students more than him in my entire life. I loved his class. His lectures can be funny, serious, insightful, sorrowful, and joyous. A wide range of emotions but always, real, down to earth and inspirational. 5 stars
I loved Professor Easterling! His class was so great. He made me think about the humanities is a whole new way. He is down to earth but so uplifting. In truth he inspired me to make some real changes in who I am as a student and also as a person. I really loved his class.
BEWARE. His class is not hard, but nor is it high quality. His lectures seem interesting because he sprinkles them with controversial subjects. Grading criteria is HORRIBLY unclear making you feel uneasy about every assignment. Required participation points, but he sucks at remembering who participates. He doesn't have the normal BYU prof. vibe.
Brother Easterling was a good professor. It was a surprise because I had previously taken Humanities 201 from another professor and it was very boring, so I was less than excited to take Humanities 202. Fun class. Interesting class. Good teacher. Wish I could take another class from him.
Wow Michael is phenomenal. He really wants you to succeed and gives lots of opportunities for that to happen. More importantly, he wants his class to matter in the long run and give you the ability to speak for yourself and make a difference in the world. His classes were always inspiring, engaging, and thoughtful. Has a lot of assignments.
He is really good. Definitely take his class. I liked the stuff he covered in class. There are several assignments, but even they were fun for the most part (not the research paper haha, but thats college). He is funny, lighthearted, and I could tell he actually cared about us. I would say, if you're reading this, go take his class.
I love this class. I am actually in his class this semester. Easterling is a great teaching that honestly care about us being better people. His class is lecture heavy so you should be there in class for the lecture, but he also makes the lectures amazing - I leave feeling inspired. I am a CellBio major & never thought I would like the humanities.
Untraditional professor because he's an great teacher, yet very unorganized. He will push back quizzes they day they are due and gets behind on lectures, causing for a class playing catch-up and speed notes. That being said, he's funny, responds to emails, and cares about his students' success. If disorganization won't bother you, take his class
Didn't seem to know the material he taught to any degree of depth, was often disrespectful to students, punished the whole class because of a few kids that cheated, used vague, subjective grading criteria, and didn't publish any kind of syllabus. Terrible class unless you want to feel like you're in high school being taught by a football coach.
Great teacher. I've never learned so much about art and history. Really enjoyed the class and everything he taught.
Really great teacher. I learned a lot in his class. He is really caring and helpful.
I love professor Easterling. His IHUM 202 class has for sure been my favorite class this semester. He has been so caring and so understanding and very helpful this semester. Also his style if teaching is very fun.
Be ready for dramatic lectures. He's got a showman's charisma while he teaches, which can be a bit much at times but is engaging nonetheless. He's pretty disorganized with his lesson material and leans incredibly heavily on participation. The few papers we do aren't too bad either. Would recommend for an easy/enlightening class.
Very fun class. Very helpful teacher. Professor Easterling has a very good teaching style which made this class fun.
Professor Easterling has been the greatest teacher that I have had at BYU. He truly cares while pushing us to have a desire to succeed. It's obvious he has a passion for the Humanities because his lectures aren't boring. As long as you take notes, you will pass his tests. He is respectful and safe for LGBTQIA+ students and for all.
Michael Easterling is a won
Michael Easterling is a wonderful teacher. Being in class you can just tell that he loves what he teaches and that he cares for his students. He made the humanities really fun. Please Rate My Professor, take down that terrible lie about Professor E. He is a wonderful man and a wonderful teacher. I was going to flag it but someone else already did.
Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go to class b/c he tests on what you go over in class. He wants the class to participate in the group discussions - which leads to some dumb questions being asked, but thats college. As for Michael Easterling I think he is a good guy. He loves the humanities, & goes above & beyond what most teachers do.
He was a great teacher, loved the course. The post from the 11th is completely false and should be removed.
I found him as a professor to be quite funny. Always had a couple dad jokes to break out and he would always make some pop culture reference during class that I like but seemed like a lot of my classmates didn't get. He is a really good teacher and a very nice man. The class is humanities - so you like the material or you don't.
I took IHUM243 from Dr. Easterling and Dr. Lawson. It was a wonderful class and very informative. Lots of information. He was very caring. During the semester when I had somethings goung on in my life and I had so drama making it hard to focus on school, he was very caring and empathetic. He always made time to help me.
He puts a lot of emphasis on participation but if your comments are different from his opinion he will give you a low participation grade. Unorganized, he will put an assignment on and have it due that day and you sit there wondering how you missed an assignment, you checked the schedule yesterday. Will never admit his mistakes.
Lovedd his class. Very understanding professor. We did group work and had a group project. He really helped me learn how to participate in a collge class, and even more to make sure i'm actively participating in my life. I really enjoyed how his class focused on the core values of BYU and trying to help me become the best version of me.
I really like Michael Easterling. I have had a lot going on this summer and he has been really helpful and understanding. I miss a few deadlines and i spoke with him about them and what was going on and he really went the extra mile to help me so that I coule make up those assignments and not be penilized. He has really made me think about life.
Michael Esterling is a good teacher, and was very understanding. I can admit I was nervous coming to college and not knowing what to expect from a college teacher because you hear so many stories about how harsh they can be. He wasn't like that at all and really helped me feel like I belong here at BYU. Professor Easterling is a really good guy.
I don't know if Professor Easterling is a hard professor or not. This was my first semester in college and he seemed average difficulty level along with my other writing professor. But I really liked Professor Easterling and what he was sharing with us in class. He really cared about us, and is a good teacher. He had us work is groups all the time.
Easterling is definitely the professor to take a humanities class from. If you are new at BYU take his class. He is great and he cares.
Great class. Not difficult. He had us do readings and research to prepare for class, but it didn't seem like more reading than my other courses, and I enjoyed the readings more than my other classes. In class he was funny and inspiring, or at least I left inspired. He would joke a lot during the class period. I would take a class from him again.
This class had in-class quizzes on the readings that were very difficult and he is a TOUGH grader. For example he makes you rate your own participation for credit and if he disagrees with your rating he lowers it. He lowered mine because "I took a while to warm up". Don't take this class unless you want to go to class every time and comment a lot.
There is little reading for this class, but when there is one, make sure you know it inside and out because his quizzes quiz on direct quotes. Grading is very subjective, and sometimes he would go easier and other times much more difficult. Tests were fairly easy with really easy multiple choice. Make sure to attend class to not miss rush writes.
I am in his class right now and it is one of the best classes I have taken at BYU. He worked with me during the first unit to get caught up, and everything makes sense. I love how his class is a lot more than just lectures. Fun class and learning a lot.
He cares about his students. He cares about his class. He cares. Prof Easterling has helped me to grow so much as a student and as a person. I was not a Humanities person before his class but I am now going to do a Humanities minor.
Great guy. Great class. I am a STEM student, but professor Easterling made the humanities accessible and understandable. I recommend.
He is the best! His class is the best! I am planning on taking his IHUM 243 class in the future.
I took IHUM 202 last semester from Professor Easterling and loved his class. I am planning on taking another class from him in the fall next year. If you can take his class you should.
I LOVE professor Easterling. Every lecture was so informative, and I always left inspired. Easterling responded to all of my emails and did everything he could to help me succeed. He cares a lot about his students and is a great guy all around. There was barely any homework, and he gives a BUNCH of extra credit. I wish he taught every class!
There are readings and quizzes about what you read. They are easy. Tests were slightly harder, you will need to memorize lots of stuff (mainly art, artists, eras) so gotta be in class and take some solid notes. You will need to participate in class discussions here and there if not every class. Tons of extra credit. Easterling is an incredible dude
This class was slightly more difficult then I would have liked but I love Professor Easterling. Just a really funny guy with such a great light and passion for the material. I found lots of his assignments to be really fun but the quizzes and tests were difficult. He cares about the students though so whenever I asked for help he was there.
Professor Easterling. He is the review. 5 Stars for the Man! If you can get in his class ... do it!
Absolutely go for his class. It's a humanities thing, but he turns it into a vibe. Legit, I've discovered tons about myself in this class, and it's been a whole journey. For real, he's got as much love for us as he does for the material he's teaching. "I wish I had more hands so I could give more thumbs up."
Terrible. Don't take IHUM 243 from this guy (for some reason it wasn't in the list of options to choose from but this is the class I took). This guy had FOUR midterms, a HUGE research paper, and a big paper as the final. Doesn't seem to care very much about his students. No I'm not lazy it was really just an insane amount of work and SO many tests.
IHUM243 was a very interesting class. Awesome content about India. It was an online blended class & I thought Professor Easterling managed that well. Used in class time in groups answering questions & then presenting the the rest of the class. It was fun. Easterling was there for me outside of class to help me understand some hard concepts.
Professor Easterling really cares about his students. I graduate in a few days and I wish I had taken this class earlier as a student. Best GE class I took at BYU for an incredible professor that truly cares as much about what he is teaching as he does about each one of his students. Wish I could take his class again. PS - He Loves the AIMS of BYU
Very easy class. I enjoyed how he set up the class as a flipped classroom. Do the reading beforehand and then in class we work with our groups and present to the class teaching about certain concepts. Way more fun than sitting in lectures. The quizzes were very helpful in studying for the exams. Also, he was very easy to work with as a teacher.
The class isn't very organized, he emails to cover important info b/c he spends the class talking. Participation is VERY important; you will be graded on participation. He'll drop random tasks on you to do before class via email. Exams were scheduled on holiday weekends- not ideal. He cares about students but the class was overall fine, easy enough
Really rate class. Really great teacher. I loved how he would make announcements and then also email us and put the announcement on learning suite. Made it really easy to keep up with things. Group work, lectures, discussions, all easy and fun. He cares and really tries to be a good impact to us as students.
I got a B in his 243 class. I should have gotten a D (or maybe an F). He really helped me and was aleays available to meets and help me understand the concepts. Its not that its hard, b/c the class is very easy to follow along with, but I just had things going on in life, and he was understanding. Take his class.
I have never felt more catfished by rate my professor in my life. I took him solely because he had a lot of reviews and had a 5 rating. He was unpredictable with assignments sending out emails the day before class that we needed to do some sort of readings
This was the best humanities class I have ever taken (small sample size as I am an engineering student). I recommend. Good content, teacher made it fun, and the classes were often group discussion vs straight lecture. I prefer more interactive classes.
Really clear layout and system for Sharing and talking to other students and receiving feedback from the TA and the professor! Lots of opprutunies to recieve extra credit. I enjoyed the class discussions, unit collaborations and the quizzes after every section. Professor Easterling is great and really cares about his students and their performance.
I'm not really an "A" type of student. But he gave us this semester long Deep Work extra credit assignment which has honestly changed how I approach my classes and assignments. I just wish I would have learned this practice as a Freshman rather than as a Junior. Yes I would take him again, I plan on taking IHUM202 from him in the Fall.
Super lit! Loved the reminders he'd drop on Learning Suite about our assignments, readings, and all that research stuff. He was legit passionate about what he was teaching, and you could tell he genuinely cared about us students. Everyone in my group felt super inspired by his teaching style. The class was a whole vibe, for real!
BEWARE! Many student athletes take his class and sway his RMP scores. He is extremely disorganized, shuts down students rudely if their answer isn't what he wanted, and his tone of speaking is dramatic (might sound petty, but it gets old FAST). Strongly advise picking a different professor.
I don't think I have ever had a professor that cared more about me - as an actual person - than professor Easterling.
This blended class is structured very well. I appreciated how it was organized with readings, self checks and quizzes, and group discussions. The class is very clearly organized and you know exactly what you need to do with the modules. Great professor. Fun flipped style of class which is unusual at BYU.
I believe that in person discussions significantly enhance the strengths of this class. Great chance to meet people around you. The comprehensive overviews, readings, and teamwork create a deeper understanding. These elements aid in reviewing and recalling the material in different ways preparing you for the exams. Truly I enjoyed this class.
Mr. Easterling was an amazing professor, funs class periods, make sure that you attend class to get all the information for the exams. Attendance is not really mandatory, but if you attend you will be able to pass the exams with ease. Very relaxed and relatable professor.
I really enjoyed professor Easterling and his class on India. Reall y cool stuff that we covered in the class. Not hard at all as long as you are following along with the online work. His TA was also helpful when I had questions, and she helped me prepare for one of the exams. Easterling also was willing to work with me outside of class.
I'm in my last week in his humanities 202 class. It has been very fun. Not just fun amd game. I have been learning a lot about the humanities and life. Easterling really wants us as students to focus on becoming the best we can become. And I have learned things that will definitely help me for the next three years. Really good teacher.
I loved how he organized this class. I loved how caring he was towards each of us. I loved that he would send our reminder emails about assignments and the like. Professor Easterling is a great professor, and i loved how he brought the spirit with him into our class.
I love Mr. Easterling. One of the very best teachers I have had at BYU. He is very focused on us as students. It's not false either, he really cares. Like I said one of the best!
I have never left a review for a teacher whose class I am currently in. Professor Easterling just went above and beyond for me as a student. I have never had a teacher that really showed that they genuinely cared about my success as a student until now. Thank you! I will never forget this. Professor Easterling is the right right choice.
He cares about his work but he needs to chill with emails. He sends several per week. Most info could be said in class but he lectures the whole time. He never ends on time. Participation counts in the class, but it's hard to participate when he rarely stops talking and willingly shuts down students opinions. Will doc points for no real reason.
Professor Easterling makes this class super engaging. He genuinely cares about students and sends helpful reminders. With the free textbook and resources like ChatGPT and unstuck ai, acing the exams is a breeze. A great class - would highly recommend!
Easterling is great. Go to class, participate, work with your group. Pretty straight forward. Also when you need him to help you, he is there to help. Great teacher.
Relentlessly reminds students that being in class is a part of our grade, but then gives an extra credit assignment that covers the percentage of class participation. If class time was used to learn new or useful material, I might have considered going more than twice this semester. Poorly structured, grading seemed very grey area--can't recommend.
Not like your traditional lecture class at all. Lots of in class discussions and different activities and presentations. I like that we were not just sitting around everyday looking at slides listening to the teacher. It really helps to be ready for class and to have done the reading before class.
lots of writing, and he's kinda picky about it (never gives full credit), but overall the class is the easiest you're gonna find for this GE credit. Easterling is such a GOOD person and he cares about his students. He offers lots of extra credit and his exams are pretty easy. i didn't care about humanities at all but he made it fun and interesting
This class was ridiculous. It wasn't too hard, but it took so much effort to get an A. You will have a million assignments in this class, and it is like all busy work. He really cares about this subject, and I respect his enthusiasm, but he thinks that humanities is the only class we have and the most important class. Find another professor.
Really good professor. Class was average difficulty level for college. But he made it fun. I thought he was pretty straight forward with how he grades and what he expects. This was my 2nd class from him. If you need a humanities class Easterling is your guy.
He assigns way too much busy work. I am a senior who just took the MCAT. Felt like I was taking OCHEM again. Class wasn't insanely hard, just took way too much time. I am sure Professor Easterling is a nice guy, but this class is a general credit, not a 500 level humanities class. I would recommend a different teacher
Way too much work for this class. Professor Easterling is a really nice guy, but I feel like he expects too much. The class content wasn't awful and the exams aren't too bad (Questions can come right off the review quizzes), but there is a big paper required. Too much work required for a general in my opinion. The 7 page paper is awful
I definitely recommend. I think he does a good job of providing easily digestible information and resources about each topic. Our group meetings have good structure and collaborative documents. Not mindless reading, tests aren't stressful, the "gospel insights" are always super cool. Raises awareness of respecting other religions and culture.
Good class, and really interesting stuff we learn about. Watched a couple movies, have a research project, and each class we do some group work. Easterling is very cool. He is always willing to help, I have met with him a couple times in his office. Good class, good teacher.
Loved Professor Easterling. best class I took last semester. The layout was easy to follow and the reviews helped me remember stuff for the tests. Most of all he really cared about us as people - a lot of the teachers I've had did not, so it was great to meet one that really cared. Also his class covered a lot of cool stuff from south Asia.
Claims to be accommodating, and is completely unreasonable with his class format. I reached out on multiple occasions and all i get are long emails which are completely useless. dont take.
Loved Professor Easterling. Loved his class. Will take again.
One of the nicest professors I have ever had. For sure - EASIEST CLASS i have ever had.
His classes are fun to go to because he makes each lecture fun and engaging. He cares very much for students' understanding. He cares a lot, is spiritual, is funny, and you learn some much from his class. He makes sure that every student has a chance to do well in his class. Will take Prof Easterling again.
LEGIT: BEST TEACHER EVER. I've never heard anything but kind words about Professor Easterling (and that says a lot). He truly cares about his students and does everything he can to make life easier (deleting projects or extending deadlines). He's incredibly kind and inspirational, and his classes always fly by. He's very generous with extra credit.
Professor Easterling was amazing. I hope I can take another class from him in the future. He makes the topics in class fun. But most important he really cared about us. If you get to take a class with him you are lucky.
Lots of assignments that have don't necessarily have to do with the subject of the class. A lot of it feels like busy work. Mandatory group assignments that have to be done outside of class create logistical problems as students have different schedules.
I enjoyed professor Easterlings class and the way he taught. He always reminded us what was coming up and what was expected. Lots of group work, but it turned out to be fun. I have never had a class were we designed and made a sticker. A couple of the people from my group have become close friends of mine. I will take another class from Easterling.
