Alot of reading and quizzes, a few papers. He is clear and fun and if you read the material you should have no prolbem.
The class is easy. No homework other than reading. The books assigned are fairly easy reads. A quiz almost everyday on the readings, but very easy. And about 3 papers during the semester but as well pretty easy. A very fun class. Listen to music and watch some videos.

great teacher, very informative, fun class, great personality, easy to talk to and get along with
This class was AWESOME! There's a quiz almost every class on the easy readings.(you can often get away with scanning chapter titles, key words, etc. & still get a good grade on them.) They're mostly out of 10pts. No classwork/notes. He encourages a lot of discussion. Easy extra credit to fix quizzes
This class was awsome! I enjoyed it very much, quizzes were easy if you did the reading which was easy also! Take this class for a good GE class, he is very passionate and you learn a lot without it being super hard
Great professor. Interesting books and discussions. Good movies and music. You will learn a lot.
I really enjoyed this class and the teacher
GREAT TEACHER! He's really passionate and makes class really interesting.
There is a quiz and reading assignment every day. If you can do that, this is an excellent class. His enthusiasm makes the course infectious.
This professor is hot, and very interesting to listen to. He's a great teacher, and very easy to listen to and look at.
One of the best teachers I've had. Period. He's lucid, acute, and enthusiastic. He assigns a lot of reading but no grueling tests.
Simply the best teacher I've ever had. He's funny, helpful, and very passionate about teaching. He's the greatest!
Amazing
I absolutely love him! Amazing professor, the ultimate best I've had yet!
i just love watching him work, very hot.
this guy IS Michael Bolton from office space. it makes going to the class worth it when he throws rap lyrics into the lesson. hes real understanding as long as you give him a heads up and don't just flake out on assignments.

Lots of dense reading. Interesting and important material for the most part, though Dr. Ezra sometimes goes out on a limb with speculations about racism and appears like he has an axe to grind.
He is fun and energetic. I really enjoyed going to class every week. Be prepared to take a weekly quiz and to talk in class. The class was pretty easy, but I learned a lot. Plus who could resist that accent.
You could literally sleep through the whole class and still get an A
he is a coo teacher, who is very helpful with assignments and quizzes. He will do many things in his power to make sure you pass the class. His special interest courses are worthwhile, informative an generate interest class discussions
He is a good teacher but he seems distracted when he is listening to others responding in class. I liked him a lot in the beginning until i asked a question in class that he did not know the answer. He defended himself by ridiculing and laughing at me with half the class. I felt embarrased and un inspired to speak again.
if you are not taking any other classes and you love to read then take his class, but if you have a life, then you dont want to ever take a class with him
ehhh...the class was boring and most of the readin seemed to be bland and uninteresting. i didnt feel he listened to the students...no final or homework....just lots of reading and a quiz every week...but they are name secific quetsions...kkind ahard
His classes are mostly discussion. It is interesting the first few classes but then it becomes just a bunch of students making all the same comments. Ezra doesn't seem at all interested in what you have to say. half of th time he is looking away. He can be very rude. He has his favorites and its obvious
One of the best classes I have ever taken. he was always interested in what everyone had to say. He neverseemed distracted to me. He also was always aware of making peopel feel comfortable in class to speak out loud. alot of times students would just repeat themselves over and over, but that happens in every class discussion that invovles opinions
Great guy. take his class, plus the accent and cuteness are cool too.
great guy! wonderful teacher. he is there to help his students. one of the best profs on campus. take this class, you will learn a lot!
have him for english/phil aka univ 150, he is a fantastic teacher. really has taught me alot
Great teacher!! Looked forward to going to this class because he kept it interesting and had great discussion topics.
The Muhammad Ali class is incredible.
Professor Ezra truly knows his subject matter and has excellent lectures. Unfortunetely I was very surprised on April 21st, 2008 when he exploded on the class. He criticized the entire class for turning in bad papers, was very unprofessional, cursed, and ranted for twenty minutes +. There has yet to be an apology, and I have lost respect for him.
Mike is a FANTASTIC teacher. He really tries to get to know his students and help them out as much as possible in the class. He is a very fair grader and gives the grade you deserve. He has a George Cloony look to him so its easy to keep yours eyes on him and pay attention. He is great at lectures and very interesting discussion questions. TAKE HIM
GREAT teacher. Mike is what you look for in a college prof. He really helps you out a lot, and really knows what he's talking about. He is definitely prepared for every class. He has a great sense of humor, and tried hard to take the time to get know every student. without a doubt my favorite prof. at SSU
Every week there is a quiz. There are also three papers due. He was unhappy with how the class did on the second paper and was not happy that no one used material from previous class sessions even though the prompt he gave said to use the movie. Do the readings and participate in class discussions and you will do well especially if you are liberal.
what an awesome guy and teacher
Mike is a great prof. I thought the class was challenging but that's why we are in college. I've had him for three semesters now and each class is always different and interesting. A LOT of reading involved! You will learn a lot
All you have to do is read the books and write passable papers and you will get an A. I thought Ezra was a pretty cool guy too, he puts on rap music for the class, and he's probably in the top ten percentile of funniest professors. So I would recommend his class, he has a New York accent too so its funny when he says Boston
Ezra=amazing! he is really funny and makes class enjoyable. He played lots of movies and rap music, you definitely wont be bored. there is a quiz almost everyday and about 6 papers. your two lowest scores for both are dropped, so as long as you read the books and do well on your papers you can get an A. take his class for the A1 requirement!
Ezra is the man! I heard he used to play linebacker at Rutgers. Fun and easy class too
Ezra is the best teacher at this school! He is helpful, nice, caring, and funny teacher. He really wants to get to know you as a person and a student. You do a fair amount of reading, and whatever you read you have a mini quiz the next class. He gives you the grade you deserve. I absolutly recommend this teacher. You will love to go to class!
Amazing professor! I came into this class with no interest in it at all and am now leaving wanting to read and find more resources! Interesting books and an excellent GE class.
Ezra is probably the easiest teacher to relate too. he understands what its like being in college and tries to make the experience enjoyable. i took his class during intersession and had a great experience, overall he is a good teacher alittle strict on his policies but not bad. its also funny how he checks RMP on a regular basis.
Amazing prof! all we had to do was read part of a book once a week and take a short multiple choice test on the basic points. the books were enjoyable. no other work besides that. he is a hilarious guy. makes the class very fun. i recommend this class 110%
Great professor! This class is a good way to knock out the A1 ge category. As long as you do the assigned reading, go to class, and take the quizzes it is very easy (and you'll actually want to read the books he assigns!)
I took this class over intersession, in the beginning totally dreading it. Yes, the classes are long, but it ended up being worth it. Lots of reading, more than 100 pages a night. You don't NEED to listen to his lectures, but he makes it so you want to pay attention. Do the readings, and you'll ace the quizzes. It's as simple as that.
This class was actually fun to come to. Ezra is a great teacher and really keeps things interesting in class (showing movies, listening to music, etc.) You do have to do a lot of reading novels but they are generally interesting. There are a few short papers but a fairly easy A! Highly recommended.
Great teacher!! The best speaker I have ever seen and very easy to follow! There is a lot of reading but it all has a purpose. Take him!!
This has been my favorite class so far at ssu. There is alot of reading but it is all very interesting. If you do the reading you will get and a in the class because almost all of the grade is based on the reading quizzes. There is a reading quiz every class so attendance is very important. I would definitely recommend this class!
This professor is the best professor I've had in SSU!! He is vibrant and clear on what he talks about, although reading is mandatory quizzes are essential to pass the class. There's 6 essays total for this course but he only lets you do 4 or them. Take him!!!
So glad i took his class. A lot of reading, no way around it if you want a good grade, but you will learn a lot and he is an amazing teacher.Super entertaining and easy to listen to. TAKE HIM for you A1!!
Awesome class and teacher. LOTS of reading to do, quizzes weekly but not difficult if you do the reading. Very enthusiastic, fun and informative. Highly recommend
Hes a good teacher who is enthusiastic about what he does. Highly recommended!
Since I know he'll read this: Ezra was truly one of the best, if not thee best, professors I've had thus far at SSU. His passion about the subject matter is contagious and I've truly changed my outlook on life thanks to his class. Lots of reading, but its all interesting and relates to everyday life. So glad I worked with him during Summer O!
I AMCS 200 during summer intersession and Michael Ezra is probably one of the best professors I've had here. I didn't participate much in class but he seriously made every class interesting and important. There is much reading involved, but almost all the books are readable and enjoyable, and truly make you think. Seriously take this class.
Ezra is the best professor I have had, he is extremely passionate about his work and made me fall in love with the subject. I have never had another professor make me so interested in a class, so willing to listen to what he had to say. Read the books and you will do wonderful. If you're reading this - I cannot thank you enough, Brilliant man!
He was so darn likeable, it didn't matter that we differ politically. The class was extremely informative, and a lot of fun to attend every day. I actually looked forward to it even as a summer class! I felt like I learned a ton, and while the readings were long, I didn't want to put the books down. Great class for any lucky enough to get it.
Ezra is the best professor that I have had so far at SSU. He makes the class interesting, he respects everyone, and he truly taught me a lot in a short period of time. Do the reading and you will do fine. Thanks for making my summer school experience so great!
Absolute BEST TEACHER AT SONOMA STATE. Hands down, regardless of what your major is. Everyone needs to take a class with him. He is so amazing and teaches extremely well. If you do the reading you will get an easy A. You will not be disappointed with Ezra. He is incredible.
Great professor! He is always prepared for class and is obviously very knowledgeable about the subject matter. He is very passionate and pretty hilarious. If you read and go to class, you'll do fine :) I highly recommend this class
Was a great professor. I was doing extremely bad in the class; he helped me recover my losses and I was able to earn a better grade. The class is EASY, but you have to do the reading- for the daily quizzes.
Absolute best professor I have ever had in my life. I enjoyed going to class everyday, and the reading was actually fun! Not only did I learn a lot more than a usual class, but I actually enjoyed it! Unbelievable professor, you must take a class with him no matter what! Life changing.
Best teacher i have had at Sonoma State. attendance is crucial but so worth it! i was excited to go to school! he made things very interesting and fun to learn! Opened my mind to ALOT of new concepts and ideas! TAKE THIS CLASS
Never learned so much in my life!Best Professor I ever encountered!Ezra has outstanding work with everything he does.Very passionate about his teachings. The books were great and very knowledgeable and so fun to read.He changed my life with all the information he feed me.Highly anticipated class.Definitely take this class even if you don't need it!
Ezra is by far the greatest professor at SSU. He's hilarious yet so passionate about what he teaches. He actually understands that his class isn't the only class you're taking so he makes it easy to balance his class with others. The readings can be long but it's all extremely interesting. Best GE class at SSU by a longshot
Attendance is necessary and counts toward participation points. A really funny and interesting prof! He makes his lessons clear and is willing to help any student out. You have to keep up with the readings; quizzes every week. He assigned 3 papers throughout the course, but the papers are not easy but not hard either. Def great prof!
Ezra is a pretty laid-back guy although attendance is completely necessary and he takes off points if he sees you on your phone. There is A LOT of required reading and a lot of watching shows and movies, but most of them are actually very entertaining. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Ezra.
AMCS 225, is the best course I took my first semester at SSU! classes were fun and entertaining. He's passionate bout his field of study, and tries his best to teach you what he knows. There is a lot of reading and quizzes every week. just read! 3-4 papers and no final!
Great teacher!!! Love him so much. What he says opens my eyes.
I accidentally signed up for this class as a Freshman. It was actually fairly interesting. Mandatory attendance though. Ezra is an awesome professor. He's funny and knowledgable about current issues etc. I would recommend him.
Ezra is a really good professor, his lectures are really interesting. There's no homework except for 4, one page essays. There is a lot of reading however, not a textbook but a lot of short novels. The novels are really easy/interesting though.
Ezra is very funny and he's very passionate about what he teaches since he is actually very knowledgeable. There is only 4 one page essays , although we do have quizzes on the books each week. Most of the books were pretty entertaining though and I learned a lot from this class. Definitely take it!
I took his AMCS 392 class during winter intercession and he was the absolute worst. We had to read an entire book a night then take a test on it the next day. We had to watch two full seasons of a TV show that added up to 32 hours of the show and then take two large tests on the show. BTW there are 732 characters in the show The Wire.
Don't take over winter. I enjoy reading, but this is ridiculous. A book is required to be read every class and tests every class are very detail oriented. Besides the 6 books required, he also requires 2 seasons of a television show (one of which he recommends you watch twice to do well) and 5 essays. Might be a good class in fall/spring
He's an amazing professor. He makes you work for your grade but it's college. It's heavy reading and tests but I work full time and have 18 units and I still managed to pass the class. The material is very intriguing so it's not a drag to read the books. The show the wire, you have to watch is ADDICTING.
Awesome teacher and invested in his students. His lectures are insightful, it's a class worth taking. I highly recommend Ezra and Amcs 392. Beware, there's a lot of reading but well worth it.
I took his class during winter 2017 and it was awesome. I got an A. There was a lot of reading but other than that it was easy.
I took one of his classes in winter and one in regular semester. Both were really good classes.
Every Monday there is a quiz based off of the reading from the previous week. Grade is based off of those quizzes. There are four, one page essays, super easy, doesn't do anything to your grade it's just to get you writing. The material is very interesting, Ezra is really passionate about what he's teaching.
Loved this class and professor learned a lot but I hated the weekly quizzes on the readings. I had a heavy load this semester so remembering minor details in the readings was hard for me. Even though I read the books I would fail the quizzes and most of your grade is based on quiz scores. If he changed the format of the course it would be perfect.
Professor is passionate re. subject & assigns interesting lit. Unfortunately, he insults your intelligence. Instead of asking you to lift complex sociological concepts from text, he reduces his many quizzes to checking your attention to inane details like the name of a car or a character. He's lazy and doesn't want to read or know your ideas.
Dr. Ezra is one my favorite teachers here Im honestly so sad he doesnt have an A/B class he may give reading but they are so interesting and worth every read! He is truly so passionate about his work and has an amazing humor when talking with students. I RECOMMEND!! All the required reading are in the library you dont have to buy any text books!
Knows his stuff! Super interesting, informative, political topics. You watch great films in class and get decent length breaks. Reading is mandatory as you have weekly reading quizzes. Only 5 papers and a final. He literally just lectures, no class discussions. STRICT class rules: no cellphones/computers/sleeping; its college. Would take again.
I loved taking Dr. Ezra's class, he is an amazing lecturer and a good person. I learned so much in his class. There is a lot of reading you need to do however if you want to earn an A. Most of the reading were really interesting and the quizzes for these reading aren't that hard. If you show up to class and do the reading you'll be fine.
Ezra is by far my favorite teacher at Sonoma. Not only is he super funny and reliable, but he makes the entire class interesting. It does get boring sometimes, as does every class, but he loves his job and the subject.
He's such an amazing professor. He's the only one I've heard say "you're paying for this course, it won't do you justice if I don't teach you". He does give quizzes every week at the beginning of the week, but if you do the readings, you'll be fine. He keeps class interesting and grades pretty easy too. I definitely recommend.
Great intersession class. There are a lot of papers but he is a great professor who clearly cares about his students and the course. Highly recommended!
He's a great professor. I took the class during the summer and it was very interesting. I shouldn't have procrastinated so much, it almost cost me. There's a good amount of work but it is fairly graded and he is clear. I found the course very interesting.
I liked the professor, his lectures were very interesting, even online. I took the summer class and it was a bit intense to have to write 14 papers in a short time. Most are 1,000 words or higher (up to 1,750). Prof. Ezra sets it up so that all the modules are open at once so you can do it at your own pace but be warned it's writing-heavy.
He expects you to write 14 essays in 4 weeks. Have to watch 14 (2hr) movies & season of a show (13eps). I would spend hours writing my essays and re-watching the lecture videos just to receive half credit. Expects a minimum of 20 hrs/week but expect to spend a lot more than that! He said course should take min 80hrs to complete! Avoid if you can!
My favorite professor so far!!!!
Ezra is really a one of a kind teacher !!! His amcs 165 class has been amazing. He has the best attitude and he presents himself as really caring and wants his students to succeed. Hes also hilarious and makes funny jokes !! You wont regret taking his class
Online AMCS 392 there is a lot of work but if you do all of it you're going to get a high grade. Not that hard but time consuming.
honestly worst class ever only reason i took it was because i had to or else i would never his quizzes are horrible and gives you 1 minute only he is the only teacher that has hurt my gpa as as a freshmen, the majority of students do good but the quizzes bring you down a lot because they are so limited
Awful!
This class was a lot of work, I wrote so many papers. However, you do get to watch a lot of interesting movies and critically analyze them. the professor was actively there and helped me and I needed support. He is somewhat of an easy grader, meaning he doesn't have super high standards. Overall, I learned a lot from the course.
He wants specific answers. He assigns essays and will grade lower if you don't write his opinion. In his quizzes for the movies or show, the questions are specific and mostly about people you don't even know the names of. He is very forward and will tell you what he wants in the essays. He also gives lectures on how to type the essays.
Excellent online experience this semester! He gets the papers back very fast with a lot of feedback and is not a hard grader. Workload is probably in the middle for my asynchronous courses. I have harder courses and easier courses online. Recommended for sure!
He gives way too much work for a GE class - honestly don't take it. Take NURS 480 if you need the credit. SO MUCH EASIER. AMCS has 14 papers and quizzes that have a time limit on 1 min. It's not worth it - save your GPA.
In the quizzes, for the readings and shows, the questions ask about small details that you would never notice. The professor needs to instead ask questions that are actually crucial to the readings and the shows and not who the name of a character was who had like five seconds of screentime.
Quizzes are 1-3 Qs and are minor details designed to see if you watched the film or read the text. It's annoying to lose points because you don't remember someone by name in 60 seconds who was in a documentary briefly. Papers are most of your grade, & there are right answers you should write toward. Course materials haven't been updated in a while
the toughest grader I have had
He just was not great. The essay prompts are way too similar, it felt as if I was writing the same paper 10 times. White saviors and agency and structure were the topics of nearly every paper and they were long as well. I think hes way too tough of a grader for these not well written prompts and assignments. Just not a good experience .
Yes, the class is difficult. The lectures are hours long and the assignments are graded pretty hard. Yet, Professor Ezra is good at what he does and has taught me how to write all over again. The grade you get is what you earn
He's definitely a super smart guy who knows what he's talking about. His lectures are LONG and he wants you to remember each detail. He seemed nice. The topic for each module throughout the semester is basically identical to one another and it does get super repetitive. The number of papers was kind of ridiculous and really got tiring.
His lectures are condescending and uninformative, he grades based how much you agree with him as opposed to how coherent your argument is, he selectively chooses material that agrees with his shallow and bigoted worldview and specifically instructs you to not use outside sources to come up with an argument, and he is generally a hypocrite.
Do not take this class if you want to watch movies about the same subject every time and write basically the same essays over and over again. He grades so hard even though the subjects and prompts were the same every time you will receive different grades on each essay. Also, the quizzes were so unfair, make sure to watch extra carefully.
Not only are the movies painfully boring but the prompts are practically directionless. His grading relies heavily on whether or not your point of view matches his. This is the only B I have EVER received in a GE course. I have received all A's in even my highest level English courses, yet somehow received a B in this class. Take a different class.
This class could be so interesting but it is repetitive and boring.
Terrible. There are 11 papers required, quizzes timed for 30 seconds per question, and the questions are ridiculously minute to the point that I would watch the movie and immediately take the quiz and fail. I answered incorrectly about a scene I have seen over 15 times in a film. Repetitive content of the films-rude critiques about papers. Misery.
AVOID. This professor is terrible as many of the comments mention before this. Unfortunately, I got stuck taking his class as it was the last and only elective available. I did all of the required readings/writings and he graded incredibly hard. Nothing valuable learned in this class. It was just a waste of my time and money.
Easy peasy!!!!
Good summer class for area F. I liked it!
Class is VERY attendance based. You cannot go on your phone or have anything out during his class which can get super boring. He knows his stuff but we watch a lot of movies. I struggle not having something to do while listening so if you are like me do not take this class. Also, if you are bad at going to class definitely do not take this class.
most well educated professor I have ever taken. Class is very clear: 13 papers, 5 points each, you can skip 2 of them. You can miss 2 classes and receive full credit on attendance. He is very knowledgeable, great lecturer, gives insightful feedback, clearly cares about what he is teaching. I don't like movies, but I looked forward to this class!
Lectures are hit-or-miss, with some clarity but also repetitive content. The assignments and quizzes can be quite tricky if you don't engage closely with the films. Unstuck AI helped me stay on top of the material.
Michael Ezra is a great prof. Clear standards and amazing grasp of the concept of what he is teaching. If you do the readings and watch the lectures you are more than capable of achieving a good grade.
Worst professor I've had ever. Gives you negative points if he thinks you're using AI in a paper, but can't prove that you are and still gives a bad grade when you try to dispute it. Isn't helpful when asking questions or wanting feedback on papers, tells you to read the syllabus. Don't take him unless you're ready for negative comments from him.
First and only class I've ever failed. Was warned about him from other students. I'm a A and B student. Took feedback to heart and genuinely tried my hardest. Received several negative scores which tanked my grade (I didn't know you could get lower than a zero). Ex) -5/5 on several assignments. Avoid him at all costs.
Would NOT recommend. I have never in my life met a more disrespectful and rude instructor. Criteria and prompts for his essays are far too narrow for genuine discussion. Email conversations routinely involve him belittling you and refusing to back down from entirely incorrect points. ALSO, boring.
This professor has time and time again proved that he is not supportive of his students. He responds immaturely and inappropriately, effectively insulting his students intelligence and integrity. Teachers are ment to build a student up and hope they succeed, and I have yet to see or feel this from him. DO NOT take this professor if you can avoid.
his behavior is SOOO unacceptable. he is rude, passive aggressive & insanely ill mannered. for your own sake & mental wellbeing take a diff class if you need the credits, he will prolly end up failing you anyway because he's inept at hearing new viewpoints. not worth the time, money, or having him insult & belittle you and your intelligence.
Took it over the summer.. never again. If you don't need to take this course DONT
He gives you one minute to answer 2-3 questions on quizzes. Makes multiple stuff due the same day. He honestly doesnt care about his students. He tells you straight up to not ask him for extra credit or anything at that point because he doesnt care and "it shouldve been done right the first time". Gives you negative points out of pettyness.
This professor or wtv is not a good teacher what so ever. He is so passionate about the class but when it comes to the students he could truly care less. SUPER STRICT on AI. He doesnt give extra credit and dont even bother asking him because he will deduct points.
The negative points on assignments are ridiculous. Missing class quickly turns into ramping negative grades, and doing assignments wrong garners negatives rather than zeroes. Don't bother taking the course. The lectures are great, but you'll spend most of your class watching clips or movies rather than actually hearing them.
You will read 5 or so books thoughout the symester, weekly quizes on the reading. you get ONE MINUTE for 3 questions online quiz. 60 SECONDS. the questions are about random non important aspects of the books. impossible. Show up to class and pay attention or he will rudely call you out for coughing or writing notes. Overall rude and unprofessional.
Although his passion for the class and subject matter is inspiring and fun to listen to, he is genuinely rude to students in front of the whole class and will make you feel stupid for asking questions. Attendance is MANDATORY and you will end up with a 0 in the class if you miss more than 3 classes.
Professor Ezra was very rude in his emails to me when I very politely inquired about some grading. He will give you a three out of five on essays if you have more than five paragraphs. His lectures are informative but. Yikes
He is very rude to students and he is open about it too. He does say he wants all his students to pass but he will be disrespectful and un professional to. He needs to treat his students more professional. SSU needs to sit down with this man and talk to him or possibly fire him for how he treats students. he will embarrass you if you critique him.
This professor is so incredibly unprofessional. He sends disrespectful emails to students and he embarases students in front of the whole class. He gives negative points on assignments and fails students frequently. People like him should not be able to teach. A lot more students than just me have had terrible experiences with him.
Absolutely horrible. Grades awfully and doesn't care about his students. Gives out negative grades and actually needs to be fired.
