Very enjoyable, but tough. If you have him, the tests will be tough, the Lab reports harder, and the classes will be humorful and enjoyable.
It's like a mix between the blue collar comedy tour and space! Never a dull moment, and actually challenges your mind. Plus, the little quips here and there really keep your attention.
Also teaches astronomy. Hard tests, difficult lab reports, but fun and interesting lectures. If you have him as an option for physics, TAKE IT before you get stuck with Gillman. For your sanity, please. Would love to have a class with him again.
The class was really interesting!! Tests were super hard. I barely pulled a C
Awesome teacher
Okay professor... I was very interested in the subject, but Fauerbach was kinda rude in class and makes it hard to participate for fear of being wrong. Learned a lot, though.

He was very very detailed, his tests were difficult but passable. His accent made me have to sit in the front of the room but overall a nice genuine person. If he was teaching another class I was taking I would NOT transfer or drop hes a good solid profess

Infinitely better than having Phys II with Gillman. He may be a little tough to deal with sometimes (difficult labs and hard tests) but you get the most out of the material. He's a teacher that actually teaches instead of just reading through the book and expects you to know everything. Like Gillman.
I had him for IDS Issues in Sci and Tech. At times he was a little rude, but I think his sense of humor just isn't what we're used to. He definitely had his favorites in class.
great teacher. funny as hell. the work is hard!
Awesome teacher. He is a genuine teacher. Very humorous, and responsible. His test are a bit hard though. I love to have a teacher like him
I don't find his humor that funny, and he obviously only likes certain people. While I did all work and always attended class, a B was the best I could muster. Hard tests, non-accomodating teacher. Would not recommend.
worse teacher ever!!course is soo hard!im failing it!dont take! u can understand anything!
The tests are really difficult. Sit up front so you're able to pay attention because he can be difficult to understand at times. His humor is kind of funny. Quizzes make up for ONE test grade.. so do well on those. Lab is 25% of your grade - so as long as you get an A, you should manage at least a C in the class
this class isnt that dificult if you actually read the book and lab is retardedly easy. there is a quiz every class but its a clicker quiz so if you dont get an A or B on it you're blind because all you have to do is look at what everyone else is clicking.
The class overall is very interesting. The labs are sometimes fun and its easy grading. You bascially have an A for 25% of the grade (Lab). The quizzes are extremely easy... but the tests. The tests is where everyone does horrible, make sure u study the book heavily... thats the only bad part of the class.
In general, it's a rather easy class if you "read the freakin' textbook" (as he says). The tests are hard if you haven't studied, so don't lurk in the back and pay attention to the notes (he practically gives you the answers if you are paying attention!). He's rather funny and knowledgeable!
This teacher only teaches the lecture part but he makes it fun. He is very funny and makes the three hour class go by fast. He teaches the subject clearly. The only thing is you have to study hard and read the book completly. The first test, all but a few people failed. He gives some of the answers on the quizes but not all.
VERY HARD CLASS!!! You have to study hard, actually read the chapter and understand the examples. Funny at times.
Fun teacher and knows his stuff. He has a little bit of an accent but it is fun "and things like this." Like others have said before, he makes 3 hours go by so fast. I enjoy the Astronomy lectures more than the lab by far. All you need are the notes, even though he says not to take notes. Pretty easy class, not too much work at all!
Fun and easy class.
You can't get enough of the Fauerbachness. He is the definition of genius.
Be ready to do alot of HW. He grades lab reports hard. I liked his personality. He jokes around some. He can make you feel stupid after tests, so jus get use to it.
Took his class over the summer which i would recommend. The class was a lot of busy work and only had one test that counts. Other than that, this class was really entertaining and the activities are pretty fun. He is hilarious and the accent only helps. He does call people out a lot so pay attention.
The class is slightly difficult, however if you have a brain (unlike most here at FGCU) you should do fine, the in class quizzes are a breeze and the tests are literally exactly what he teaches, word for word. He does have a slight accent but you shouldn't have a problem understanding him, and if you do he will repeat himself. Great man, very smart
I thought he was hilarious with his strange jokes and comments. Some of the weird stories he told about the material helped me understand it better. He is very detailed oriented so pay attention! He gives away answers on click quizzes and uses the same questions for the homework beforehand, so pay attention to that too!
Awesome Professor. He has a German accent but is easy to understand. Makes class lots of fun. Pay attention or he'll call on you to answer questions! Short answer questions on the tests come from the review questions at the end of each chapter.
A good professor if you've had physics before, but if you're new to physics, he will skip some of the steps. You should take Mayer if you've never had physics before. He's a little mean at first, but only till after the drop date, then he shows that he's actually really nice. Always helpful if you go see him in his office. Makes it interesting.
Entertaining and fun teacher, even tho I almost fell asleep at times...probably because I took the night class till 9 lol. Quizzes are EVERY class, however, b4 the real quiz at the end, he basically goes over questions and answers throughout class with "practice quiz" questions..(same as real questions about)..soo take notes!Tests are difficult :(
Purely an enjoyable professor. Extremely intelligent and very funny. I took him for Astronomy as well as Physics. Be prepared to study though, his classes can be tricky. A+
Great professor. Witty with his humor (makes class way more enjoyable.) Make sure to pay attention in class and read the textbook. All the answers for the quizzes are in the textbook, word for word, and the majority of the questions on the tests are from the quizzes, word for word. Overall, I really enjoyed learning about the universe with him.
this class is "hard" at first but once you figure it out it becomes a no-brainer to do well if you try somewhat. the quizzes are a breeze with him giving away answers and the tests are well super easy. got an A overall in the class so it's easy
A really good guy, makes the class extremely interesting and funny. but he is a attendance nazi.... if you have an A in the class he will make you drop if you miss more than 2 classes. no excuses period.
Great teacher dont miss more than two LABS!!!!not classes but labs. Dont know the section number sorry
He has a passion for physics and it shows in his teaching. To Pass: Come to class, do the quizzes (which he gives away the answers for), and study. It is hard to grasp some of the concepts at first, but he is willing to take the time to help you. I almost wish I were taking more Physics and astronomy so I could have him again!
Horrible teacher. His directions are not clear, he changes stuff last minute, he is very difficult to understand, and he has a tendency to be mean to students. He has a god complex.
He gives out so much homework. He says it should only take about 5 minutes for each sheet (usually 3-4 sheets) but it takes more like 30 minutes per sheet. I could spend all night doing homework for this guy. And it counts for 50% of your final grade.
I will say this, he is tough. He is a real stickler for attendance and can be really tough on tests. it is nice that he doesn't require a textbook, but that is probably the only nice thing about his class. Avoid this teacher if possible.
He is rude to students when they email him asking for help. He randomly calls people out in class when he knows that they do not know the answer. He even goes as far as making fun of students for stuff.
Class is mandatory. He gives out a ton of homework and it is very difficult. He does not help students when they need his help and he is very rude during correspondences. I found his teaching methods to be barbaric and I suggest you do anything you can to avoid this teacher.
Don't even bother asking him for help because he will either tell you to pay better attention in class or ask another student. Of course, that doesn't help much. And he gives out an absolute ton of homework. And no matter how hard you try on it, he will not give you a 100. He doesn't even want to hand out As or Bs on it, let alone 100%.
I took his astrology class. He is an amazing and hilarious little german guy. His tests were really hard, so take notes, pay attention, and read the book! He wants you to understand, and stresses that he wants us to succeed in his class, and that he is available to help us any time. The only downside of this class is Dr. Mon is the lab professor.
Took him during summer. Dry, sarcastic humor that is very entertaining. Would highly recommend, very clear about expectations. Easy class and would take another class with him
Fun professor with a good sense of humor. Teaches a relatively easy class. I do not own the textbook, and barely study for each test, and I have a B. Super easy homework to boost your grade. Attendance is mandatory, he gives easy quizzes each class which he often gives the answers to. This class is good to take even if you don't need it. Take it!
Great teacher! Took for astronomy. The tests are hard, but if you read the chapters before the test that helps ALOT! Great sense of humor, thick German accent(but easy to understand) makes class mandatory by having group quizzes at end of every class(they are easy). Only part I didn't like was the lab which he didn't teach.
EXCELLENT professor. Highly recommended. Is clearly knowledgable about the subject and makes class fun along the way.
I HIGHLY recommend him; his class is an EASY natural science credit. He gives you the answers to the in-class quizzes right before you take them; the Homework is online, multiple choice, and the answers are on Google. There are 4 exams excluding an optional final. They are each 40-50 questions with 4-5 free responses. I got an A & I hardly studied.
Must go to class and pay attention in order to pass. He has great teaching strategies and knows how to make learning semi-fun. Try to wear boring shirts so he won't call on you! Tests are brutal. He has a strong accent but easy to understand.
He may seem hard, but it's really only hard if you don't pay attention. He's really funny too; I think he realizes Astronomy is a fairly dry subject, so he tries to use humor to engage students. Even if you get a D on every exam, as long as you pay attention, do well on the quizzes and labs, and do your homework, you'll pass just fine.
Negative feedback for Fauerbach comes from those who are extra sensitive, can't handle speaking in front of people or Dr. F's honesty. He's a great professor, comes on strong but he's one of a kind. He instructs very well, short quizzes in class, online homework, 3 in class exams. He's clear, concise, HILARIOUS, interesting! Wish I could keep him!
Dr. Fauerbach is absolutely hilarious, and he gets you to think critically at the same time. He is a real stickler about attending class, but it really is worth it anyway because he does a great job explaining concepts and applications. If you have even a slight interest in physics, take this class and you may end up getting a new perspective.
Dr. Fauerbach was a great teacher; he was passionate about his subject and really did his best to keep us interested. Overall, I hate astronomy, so I didn't enjoy the class itself, but he was great.
Best professor I had at FGCU. You have to pay attention and attendance is mandatory, but if you do the work, his classes are an easy A. Unlike other professors who just drone on, Dr Fb constantly jokes around and makes the lectures engaging and enjoyable. If you have the opportunity, take one of his classes.
Fauerbach was one of my favorite science professors that I have taken while at FGCU. He is very funny and willing to explain the material to students, but the exams are very tough and a bit confusing. Best advice: READ the textbook (especially the "yellow boxes"). Review the past homework before every exam and write down the quiz ?'s you don't get.
I chose to take conceptual physics because advisors say its "physics without math" that doesn't mean its necessarily easy. I found this class pretty difficult. We had quizzes at the end of each class, which are mostly every question on the exam, but they didn't help your grade much. I ended with a solid C. If you don't have to take this course dont
While the class was very hard most of the time, Professor Fauerbach kept the class interesting by making jokes and simpler to undrestand by referring to real life examples. It's a really cool subject but definitely not an easy A. You'll have to put in work to pass the class.
Doctor Fauerbach is an awesome teacher hands down. What ruined this course for me though is the lab teacher Mr. Keefe. He opens class by saying he teaches at a local high school(which is clear in his teaching style). Also, he clearly doesnt care too much of the course due to the amount of busy work you receive. If I could fit more into this I would
Great professor and great class. Reviews everything that will be on quizzes and tests in class.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. WORDS FALL SHORT OF HOW GREAT HE IS. Guys if you're doubting this course or are worried about astronomy in general, I would recommend ANYONE take this class just for the experience of having Fauerbach as a professor, alone.
He's super knowledgeable and sweeet but make sure you study study study!!!!!!!!! Pre-occupational therapy students make sure you take this course with no other hard prerequisites! You can't afford it with this course! I spent over 20+ hours a week studying for this course just to get an A!
Have in class quiz every class so attendance required. 3 tests, each covering 9 chapters making it impossible to study. Get kicked out of class for using phone. Strict but funny guy. Usually A student got a C+. Wouldnt take unless you are interested in physics. Dont recommend taking as an elective.
The power points are really helpful in class. What he covers during class time aligns with what he looks for in exams. There are no surprises when it comes to testing and it's easy to prepare for. He explains concepts clearly and relates them to real life examples. There isn't any busy work in the class, and GO TO OFFICE HOURS.
I had a great passion for astronomy prior to this class. I have watched weekly documentaries and the concept of the universe totally intrigued me. Myself and a good friend were totally turned off by this class. No imagination- just facts that BTW were the teachers own and outdated. This is not a class for those who love Astronomy.
Such a hilarious professor! He gets his point across very well during class lectures, but makes you work for your grade. Every class he will tell you that you will die on your first exam, he isnt kidding. Study extremely hard, know the material but not memorization by knowing why the answer is the answer. Studied with a study group it helps!
Yes, he is a funny guy but his tests are hard if you don't go on quizlet. I read the textbook and it doesn't really help but quizlet does!! His homework is easy and his lectures you have to take a lot of notes because he does pop quizzes in the end, middle, or beginning of class. There are easy questions but make sure to pay attention!!!
The teacher is a very tough teacher. If you don't find physics interesting don't take the class. You have to teach yourself. He uses powerpoints, but you don't get time to write anything down. The class is very fast paced. Their is homework every week and a quiz every class.
Homework every week, quizzes almost every class and sometimes at the beginning so don't be late. Quiz questions are straight from lecture and sometimes he'll even give you the answers so those are easy points. Tests can be difficult, you need to be able to apply the information to multiple questions not just memorize one question. FINAL IS OPTIONAL
This was a tough class and I almost dropped it, but I'm glad I didn't. There's a quiz every week but it is open notes (the questions are straight from the powerpoint and you can talk to your neighbors). Professor Fauerbach is very nice but can be tough if you don't do what you're supposed to. For a 2+ hour evening class on Monday, it was enjoyable!
Although he is a nice guy, he is a bad professor. He grades very very harshly, and barley explains anything in class. You have to read all on your own and guess what to study for the test. I am a all A student and I would not take him again.
Not the easiest course but if you do the homework and labs you'll pass the course. I didn't use the book once. Attendance isn't mandatory but there's quizzes on the lecture every class so you probably won't pass if you skip class. He makes the class fun though
He has an accent. He has few classes cancelled so far. He makes you participate and will pick on you randomly without knowing your name. This class is really challenging. It is fast paced you have in class quizzes with a clicker. I withdrew the class because it is too intense and I really am not learning or understanding the material.
Amazing lectures, 3 hours broken up w/ jokes, videos, & cool pictures. He is German, so he's fun to listen to. Very fair & very clear as to what the expectations are. If you participate, you'll be okay. In-class quizzes count as participation. If you don't want to be there, you mind as well not go, save yourself the embarrassment. Online hw & labs.
Look, he is a consumate academic. If you are only looking for an easy grade, you won't find that here. He is a quite competent instructor, and personable during office hours. What he offered me was some perspective on what it takes to earn a STEM degree. I entered his class a comm major I ended up graduating in Engineering. No regrets!
The professor is very witty which makes the lecture's entertaining. The 3 exams make up 70% of the grade; however, the final is optional and can be used to replace your lowest exam grade. The exam questions are all multiple choice, many from the homework and lectures. There are password protected quizzes after each lecture to confirm attendance.
If you want an easy A dont take this class. I thought it would be fun and interesting but 3 hour long lectures on Monday nights are in fact the opposite. The exams are 50% of your grade and are webcam proctored and HARD. You need to prepare A LOT for them. For me it wasn't worth it for a prereq class I dropped halfway through the semester.
I took this class to satisfy a prereq, and overall it wasn't too bad. Reading the chapters, reviewing for exams, and listening to lectures can be time consuming, but all of it is essential to understanding the class content. If you just memorize the information, you won't pass. Also, don't be afraid to ask him to explain things - it helps a lot!
Professor Fauerbach was a very good professor. The lectures were entertaining and he has an enjoyable accent to listen to. Just go to class and pay attention and you will be fine.
There are 4 tests total. Be sure you read the textbook and do the homework. That is essential to success. Dedicate at least 9 hours of studying to get a good grade. Its a lot but you need to do good. Attendance is mandatory, there is a quiz after each class and he gives password out during the lecture at random times. Good luck :) youll need it
Frequently went on tangents during class, which created very strange pacing and made already 3-hour-long online lectures difficult to listen to. Learned way more from the textbook, so get ready to read! Knows the material and clearly loves it, but that doesn't make him a good teacher and he refuses to curve even when the exam average is a C or D.
DO NOT take this class in summer. Had to do 3 chapters a week w/ an exam each week and only 25 min to complete it. Class lectures are basically useless because all he does is show pictures of things that are never on the exam. There is a final essay which he grades very harshly but gives very little instruction on how he wants it written.
Well rounded professor and great at explaining difficult concepts.
Lectures are lengthy but provides essential information towards quizzes, exams, and assignments. Participate in the coursework and focus on the readings to receive A's. He drops the lowest grades for exams, quizzes, homework, etc. He extends his lectures with information from space that are historical and present.
In my opinion, Fauerbach behaves so unnecessarily. A lot of lectures are spent with him complaining or saying the same thing over and over again. Bro needs to chill out and stop worrying about the students so much. He keeps a tight grip on participation and no cheating. Very over-bearing for a Gen-ed class. Feels like my dad watching over my back.
I think is a great professor. You must read the chapter before class but I let the online textbook read to me so no longer than 45 mins with me taking notes. 4 exams total including final (don't have to take). Has quizzes after class but gives every answer during lecture. If you study questions asked in class, then you will do great on exams.
Took him fall 2023. HW is easy. Quiz after every class so make sure you pay attention. Tests are hard and can hurt you. That's why I got a C. Tests are lockdown browsers w/Cameras. Quizes are not. Quizes are password protected and he'll reveal password halfway through class. I would still take him again. Prepare to put up with him.
Professor F's class is online via zoom. The HWs are to be completed before the lectures off of the textbook. This class can be a lot of work but if you put in the effort you can pass. There is 2 homeworks, and 2 quizzes a week. The exams are not weighed too heavily either. He is very passionate about this class and will help if you reach out!
I would never take a class from this professor again. His astronomy class was my last gen ed science class, and I wish I would've taken something else. His lectures are so painfully boring, and they look the same every week. Class is not engaging whatsoever, so it made it, in its virtual format, nearly impossible to pay attention. DO NOT TAKE!
Dr. Fauerbach manages to make an online physics class engaging and interesting. Make sure to focus on getting high A's on homework and quizzes to make up for a lower performance on your exams. Exams are kind of hard but manageable. You cannot get an A on them without UNDERSTANDING the material. Review hw and quiz questions for them.
He can be a little hard to understand due to his accent but he is very nice and is always willing to explain more!
I really liked Mr. Fauerbach as a person but his class is formatted in a way that promotes the least amount possible of learning. The test structure was also extremely frustrating as the class average on the first test was a whopping sub 60%. But who knows maybe its the 65 students fault like he says it is!
Most of your grade is from quizzes you take after each class, which are easy as long as you pay attention during class. Just do your work and you'll be fine. Exams aren't graded heavily. His lectures are just reviews of the chapter, you have to know the lesson beforehand. Overall, easy class, chill professor.
Definitely a learn on your own, you learned by reading and then he gave a lecture the next day after homework had already been done. Was rude when people got questions wrong, saying things like "You must not have passed 5th grade." Didn't do any reviewing for the exams and blamed the whole class when the class average was low.
