Worst teacher ever. He never goes over homework but assigns tons of it. Quizzes every week help, but they are nothing like his test. He admits he doesnt know how to solve problems, and doesnt show up for set up meetings to help. I am not good at math, and he made it worse. I would NEVER recommend him to any one.
I didn't mind him as a teacher. He was a little awkward sometimes, but a nice enough guy. During class he writes everything on the board so it is easy to copy notes. He usually collects homework every other Friday, 3 sections at a time. There is a 10 point quiz every Friday. The tests can be hard, but overall it wasn't a difficult class.
He definitely knows what he is talking about. His homework changed from being out of the book to being on webwork which is so much better. Quizzes every week are pretty easy. He can be confusing sometimes because he'll just go off on the problem so he can figure it out for himself. If you are good at math take him, if not, you might not want to.
If you can't figure math out on your own, don't take him. More than a couple times i had to correct him on the board and show him easier ways to calculate answers instead of drawing out the problem. He shows 'no examples'-which are NOT helpful. He gives hard web word that isn't even our level. His tests are only 6 questions, and difficult.
Nice guy. Very helpful.
Too many examples, teaches too quickly, homeworks are very hard
okay... this professor is extremely frustrating, do NOT take him for Precalc. I emailed him twice for help, the first time he emailed me back with a smarta** remark, the second time he never responded, I stopped going after the third week, because he's so unhelpful. i'm actually running out of letters to type all of the bad things... do not take!!!
Probably the best math teacher that West chester has. He makes light work of the hardest subjects. Calc II was a breeze. His examples made sense and he explained everything well. I never needed to go to office hours and he only assigns 10 problems for homework. I love Fisher.
He is very helpful, and goes through homework during class, he will answer any question you may have. He made math easy and all the homework questions in the book are exactly on quizzes and tests!! I'm guessing all the bad remarks are from ppl who didn't try and don't care, if you try you will get an A.
I transfered in and was warned that the math department sucked and so did fisher... I thought he was great! If you try you will get at least a B. I received an A even while taking another math course.
First off I do not know why people say the math department sucks, its a teaching school, not an engineering school, and the department is fine. Fisher is a good teacher, not amazing, but certainly not the worst, and was very patient with students who did not understand the class. Took for Linear Algebra, recommend
I have taken Fisher for several classes, overall he is very good. He is very patient and not strict with deadlines, if you have a question on a homework he'd rather you get it right and hand it in late, so go to his office hours and get help! He's very approachable, he is a must take.
He is awesome! Absolutely love him. He's so kind and so helpful and hes verrrryyyy approachable. Overall, he is a very good professor to have and he explains things thoroughly. LOVE HIM!!
He is not a good professor. He was extremely rude and it seemed as though he loved to make his students feel dumb. You must attend the class or you will lose points, and if you attend all classes you get +1%... His exams are impossible and do not contain any of the material that he teaches in the course. Do not take him!
Fisher was really good. he answered all the questions you had and taught everything within a good amount of time. He never rushed. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you wanna pass, i advise you go to class cause his test are based of what you learn in class. his exams are like 6 questions long, and are exactly like the review packets. TAKE HIM.
He was not the type of teacher to involve himself with students. He did ask people if they had any questions, but his answers confused me even more.
Dr. Fisher is a great person with a charming character. The class was lively and relaxed. However, I found Dr. Fisher's delivery to be obscure and very disorganized. His final was unexpectedly different than the review and worth 30% of our grade, I feel there's a disconnect his expectations and the students. Don't take this with him
Worst teacher I've ever had in my life please take this advice and drop his class immediately if you want anything above a C. His teaching is horrible and his methods are obscure, nice guy though, but horrible teacher.
Fisher is extremely disorganized and jumps all over the place. He isn't helpful and is very unclear. The tests are nothing like the homework or work in class. Web work online every week, group quizzes every Friday, three tests. Tests and final are worth 75% of your grade. Unfair and not a good teacher at all!
I am currently taking Fisher and I really appreciate how easygoing and relaxed he is with his teaching. If you go to his office hours he'll help you with whatever you need. Calculus is NOT a subject you can pass without studying. Math takes practice over and over to master. Fisher will help you and is a solid teacher, but you better put in the work
Very good professor who loves the material. Pay attention, do your homework, and it shouldn't be too much of a difficult class!
Fisher is a good guy, but is extremely disorganized with teaching. He jumps all over the place and skips steps in problems simply because he already knows how to do it...Maybe he is better for higher level math but for college algebra I suggest you take someone else. And his tests are about 6 questions long so if you get one wrong you're in the hole
Very helpful teacher. All homework is online. You cannot use a calculator in Mat107. Tests are around 7 questions so you have to study. Office hours are helpful and although attendance is not taken, in order to get a good grade you should attend each class. I would recommend him to anyone willing to put in the work.
He is a nice guy and knows his stuff. He might not be the best in class, but his office hours are very helpful. He is great one on one with you and shows you exactly what you need to know. He gives you all test and quiz questions for HW so putting in effort in this class is essential. Not the easiest class, but you will learn something.
Fisher is simply a horrible teacher. He jumps around to random problems during key notes and gets off track somehow. I was always confused, but did well on the mini quizzes in class every Friday. The tests however (which are a majority of your grade) are extremely hard and have concepts that were rarely gone over in class on them. DO NOT TAKE!
He's a really kind professor, but he's very confusing and hard to follow. The homework is nothing like what he goes over in class. The tests (which make up most of your grade) are almost always concepts that aren't covered very well in class. Don't take him!
good teacher
He is a nice man, but a horrible teacher! He is so confusing and disorganized. I would not recommend taking him. He moves quickly and doesn't explain steps well. He treats his class like they already know the material. Calc 2 shouldn't be as hard as he makes it.
I hate math but 161 was required. Fisher jumps around quite a bit but he pulls the test questions from the assigned homework so all you have to do is work through those problems (or get help from your math major roommate) and the tests are easy.
I took this teacher for calc 2 over the summer and he was hands down the best teacher I have had for math or any class. The experience may be different for normal year class but if you need to take this class over summer choose him.
Allows you to take quizes as groups, but if you dont know anything on the quizes dont expect to pass the tests later. If you dont show up for class you miss alot of material that's hard to catch up on. Awesome teacher though and pretty funny. Does study groups at night and always willing to help at office hours.
I thought he was pretty good professor, he works with your schedule and tries and makes math as interesting as possible. He is very helpful when you ask, however his tests and quizzes are pretty tough.
MAT-414 is Number Theory. I actually gave a review for Dr. Fisher before and in retrospect, it was unfair. Dr. Fisher is excellent, very thorough, comprehensive & always willing to help. I did not do well but it was my fault. some students were more advanced than I, which intimidated me and made me reluctant to seek help. I know better now.
Fisher is a good professor. He WANTS you to do well! That being said, you have to study. BUT he goes at a good pace and gives you multiple resources to study for exams (practice tests etc). If i had to choose any math professor to take i would take Fisher.
Professor Fisher is a great professor! His class is a little hard, but he is always open to help. He wants his students to succeed, but not by just doing the minimum. He has a good sense of dry humor and he can be very enjoyable to learn from. If you pay attention and ask questions you'll do better than okay. Textbook was optional.
He is a great professor. For me, I am horrible at math and struggled the entire semester. However, I went to his office hours often and he knew of my situation. He helped me through the rest of the semester to make sure I earned the grade I needed for his class. He is hilarious in class with his dry humor and an overall great professor and person.
Good professor. Clear with a lot of things occasionally throws a weird question on test. But putting in work will get you an A. Very cool guy in office hours and good to talk to about tests. Really enjoys math.
Mr. Fisher is an extremely nice guy and he is a much better math teacher than some of the others at this school. He knows what he's talking about but sometimes makes small mistakes. Partial credit on tests and quizzes for attempt and has extra credit opportunities. Webworks and study guides irrelevant as he puts other types of questions on exams.
Fisher is a nice professor. But, his lectures are extremely fast paced and by the time you want to ask a question about a step, he's on the next problem already. He's also very disorganized and does not make what the questions are asking for very clear.
Fisher is a really awesome professor. The tests are very easy with extra credit options. His lectures are slightly fast paced if you take the 5 week course. Overall, he does an amazing job breaking down calculus in a way all students may understand. If you put the work in, it is a very easy A. Definitely take his class if you can
His class was honestly one of the toughest classes I've ever taken. Normally I would not complain about a challenge but the problem with him is that if you went to him with a question he would act like you were stupid for not knowing the answer. He is way too fast paced and cares more about covering more material than his students learning it.
Seems like a decent guy but generally is disorganized and doesn't really seem to understand what he's even teaching. He's made countless mistakes in class and often does not realize or understand his mistake until a student will question it. He's almost too casual in emails. Uses dad jokes every chance he gets. Avoid if you want a good grade.
This is my second time taking Calc 2 since I got an F the first time but I'm already doing so much better (two tests so far) thanks to Dr. Fisher. The class isn't a breeze (it's still calc) but he's funny and is helpful both in and out of class. Tests have extra credit and no curveballs. Didn't make us buy a textbook. Great dude all around.
My favorite professor so far! Truly cares about his students and their success. Although the course is very difficult, he tried his best to teach it in an easily understood way. He is super helpful during office hours too. I am taking him again for Calc 3 because he is the best! Also, he is the only professor I took who learned names of students.
Even though it's faux pas to comment here at the grad level, anything can say or do that would have a positive impact is worth ir. Dr. Fosher is a high caliber instructor and a has great mathematical intuition. I was honored to have him as an instructor. Grad Linear Algebra was probably one of the best times of my life as far as math courses go.
He loves math and really knows what he is talking about. Always available if you need help. Fisher is incredibly friendly. I am not saying this class is easy, but he definitely makes it bearable.
Dr. Fisher ended up taking over our class for the 2nd half of the semester since Dr. Sullivan left. Nice guy overall, and is very knowledgeable. However, his teaching style takes a bit of getting used to, as lectures didn't match with HW on WebWork, and tests tend to be slightly tough (it's Calc, but still). He does offer extra credit on tests.
Fisher is an overall good professor, but sometimes his lectures got a little too abstract/not straightforward for a beginner learning linear algebra, and also the homework schedule often didn't sync with lecture topics, so I had to read the book a lot to fully understand the material. He was very available and helpful outside of class though.
Professor Fisher is a solid choice if you have to take a summer math class. He tries his best to make everything clear and is always open for questions on any concept or step. He even brought in a potato and toiler paper to explain concepts to us. He truly cares that everyone has the information needed to understand. He is also very approachable!!
Fisher is a great teacher, really wants his students to understand the material. Lectures are efficient but not boring, and he makes you feel comfortable enough to ask even the most basic questions. some of his analogies are a little odd but if that's the only complaint I can think of, that's pretty good. I have never enjoyed a math class until his
Dr. Fisher is hilarious, he makes lots of math jokes and jokes with dark humor. The course itself is definitely challenging, but Dr. Fisher does a decent job at explaining material. Occassionally he moves fast, or he goes off on random tangents, but other than that he is a generous grader and helps his students' understanding.
Super nice and very smart but his lectures were too all over the place for me. The content itself was already confusing/abstract and then on top of it, he would go off on tangents. He was pretty helpful outside of class though. Tests weren't out of a lot of points which was kind of tough but he did offer some extra credit
Dr. Fisher is extremely laid-back and fun. His lectures sometimes feel impromptu, which can occasionally lead to confusion but you get to see the thought processes well. He explains all topics well and went above and beyond to cover more abstract pieces of linear algebra. Easy workload, easy exams, highly recommend.
Dr. Fisher is a very nice, caring guy. He is very helpful and open to answering questions. Makes his lectures simple and easy to learn.
taking him for algebra over the winter. hes a really nice prof and wants you to succeed. i think the class is super easy, but maybe thats because ive taken algebra before. either way, will definitely be taking him again. homework is light and the quizzes and tests arent crazy.
If you have never taken calc in highschool DONT even think about taking him. He realizes people aren't understanding anything but keeps going. He assumes we have been doing calc our whole life. Don't need to buy textbook cause he provides alternative option. You will have to spend a lot of time teaching yourself and revisiting his lectures A LOT.
Just an awful class all around. I got an A in Pre-Calc but didn't understand a thing in this class. It's basically the classroom equivalent of walking on hot charcoal.
Class is pretty hard but that's to be expected since it is calculus, things that I learned from highschool calculus he expected us to know already so if you didn't take calc in highschool then this class will be even harder. overall he was a solid professor.
99% of the time you won't know what he is talking about, and the 1% you do won't matter because it's not like it's relevant to HW in any way. He seems like an ok guy, but he admits himself that you might not understand what he is talking about, and then continues lecturing. Really boggled my mind.
This professor is EXTREMELY scattered. You will end up having to teach yourself almost all of the math. His lectures, notes, PowerPoints, etc. are so hard to follow. Even when he talks in lectures he sometimes goes off on tangents and does not focus on actual teaching. He gives quizzes weekly, his exams do not always look like his study guides.
Worst math teacher I've ever had. Don't even THINK about taking him for MAT 161. He is all over the place, and half the class is spent by him talking about stuff not related to the lecture (not exaggerating). Also, he makes you do programming. I'm a Computer Science major, and even I thought that was ridiculous. Let me reiterate: DO. NOT. TAKE.
Most people will say this class is hard but honest prof Fisher does such a good job on explaining the material. Missing class is definitely not a good idea for this course as the lectures are important. He provides lots of examples and he tries to be fun to keep us all engaged. You have to be willing to put in the work. Quizzes are done in groups!!
Prof. Fisher is very kind and helpful outside of class. But, his lectures are extremely heavy and will take up every minute he can. He gets messy in his notes and it's very easy to get lost while he's teaching. Weekly quizzes are done in groups, but exams are almost never like the study guide. I wouldn't recommend him unless he is your last resort
This is the second time with Dr. Fisher. Knows his stuff, knows how to explain, great personality. Very helpful. Wants you to succeed. Loves his field. Good homework assignments to really help you understand the concepts. Fair tests. Organized.
Dr. Fisher is really nice but 10/10 would not recommend him as a teacher. Constantly rambles and goes on tangents. Class average for one of our tests was a 58%. If you arent a math person, Dr. Fisher probably isnt the professor for you. Homework is unnecessarily hard and the test review sheets look nothing like the tests. Quizzes every week too.
Professor fisher is never specific with anything in MAT 113. He creates review packets that are absolutely nothing like the tests. For our final he gave us a review packet of all recent material and then decides to send an email saying the test is cumulative at 4pm when the final is the next day 8am. He makes this class way too difficult.
Very kind, always willing to work with you & answers questions. However, when lecturing it was as if he was speaking to himself, not the class, & would never go into detail & completely skip around in ex. problems. Attendance is a must if you want to PASS, but not mandatory. Exam reviews are nothing like the test, tests were always 10x harder.
His classes are super focused on the homework and the tests, most of the tests were super confusing and did not follow what was going on in the class, I would spend hours of studying for the tests, only to have questions that weren't relevant the topics we covered in the class.
He may be a little disorganized at times but is not a bad professor. I enjoyed his class and found him to also just be a really nice guy.
Not only is Dr. Fisher a really nice person he is very smart and a great professor. May be slightly disorganized at times but overall a good professor. Is VERY helpful in office hours!
Math 412, Abstract Algebra II. Great experience.
Dr. Fisher is a hilarious guy and he knows his stuff. VERY helpful with office hours. I don't know why, but for some reason the information never connected with me. He teaches well and is super nice. Make sure to attend every class because some of the content taught is very confusing. I have an A- rn but I think I bombed the final a bit
Very difficult class, but Prof Fisher is a nice person. Exams are nothing like study guides and the random quizzes usually on fridays are hard.
Really nice professor. Very clear he wants his students to do well and is willing to work with everyone and anyone. His teaching style does not match my learning style so it was a tough course. Often times you'll ask a question and he answers a completely different one. Great guy, definitely will take it with a different prof next semester
As a person, he is meek and humble and, therefore, welcoming to talk to; As a teacher, he is competent in his knowledge of the subject, but quite deficient in structuring the presentation with logical roadmaps/timestamps and in speech delivery. Nonetheless, he is overall an average teacher.
smart dude but not the best prof. 5 pt MCQ on exams is absurd. he makes you attend math lectures & write a HW set in LaTex for 15% of your grade. i suggest office hours for help bc his lectures r sometimes bad examples. he assigned HW a week before finals so no study time!! very late grader btw. he's unfortunately the best option for a MAT200 prof.
Honestly, I had never struggled so much with math until I took his class. He moves very fast in class and the homework and tests are barely what you even learned in class. He isn't clear if you ask questions and isn't very helpful during office hours. He is such a nice guy but not the best professor. I wouldn't recommend.
Tough class but he tells you up front that the test questions are taken right from the homework. He changes the numbers on the problems but if you do the homework in the book, the tests are ok. His office hours are sometimes crowded but you he's really helpful if you have questions. I suck at Math but still got an A- which is huge for me.
THIS CLASS SHOULD BE YOUR second LAST OPTION!! YOU WILL STRUGGLE, he's not very good at teaching, and often times it sounds like he's talking to himself. His exams ARE HARD, ALL THE STUDYING and YOU'LL STILL GET A 75. The only pro is the new knewton homework, which is less time consuming than aleks. There's a lot more to it but trust me
I dont think i have stressed out more for a course before this one. He is unable to speak and structure lectures in a way to understand the material. Homeworks did not coorelate to what we were learning in class. This causes confusion for the bi weekly quizzes. Do not even think about this disorganized disaster of a class.
Be prepared for exams to not match the reviews. Show up to class since there is an exam or quiz every Friday. Homework is all due at the end of the semester, but due dates were randomly added. Only pros were some quizzes were done in groups and a few bonus points were added to exam scores. Even if you're strong in math, you're likely to struggle.
Professor Fisher is a great guy and tries to keep the class humorous, but if you don't usually do well in Math classes don't take him. It's quite easy to completely lose track of what he is saying. He does offer extra credit if you go to tutoring which I found much more helpful. He teaches a lot of topics in ways my multiple tutors have never seen.
This class is manageable if you have a solid algebra/pre calc background. Professor Fisher is a nice man and understanding, but class often felt very chaotic (easy to get lost - sometimes he would mess up his own problems). Does offer extra credit, but homework due dates were randomly added, as well as weekly Friday quizzes. Do not recommend.
Dr. Fisher is a great guy and puts a lot of effort in, but got lost often in class. I liked his teaching style (works through examples on the board), but HW was on an extremely frustrating platform called Knewton Alta, and due dates were random and unclear. Be prepared for a quiz or exam every Friday, but often quizzes are partner if you ask
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had at WCU. He is an extremely difficult grader, completely impersonable, and very unwilling to help students succeed and pass his class. If I could do anything I would go back in time and not take his class.
I really liked Dr. Fisher! The only thing with him is that he grades homework for accuracy. I consistently got 75% or lower on my homework assignments however, he gives clear and helpful feedback on the homework which led to me getting great grades on exams! I got a 93 or higher of 2 out of the 3 exams and 94 on the final.
Overall, a solid guy. Has trouble elaborating on the explanations for problems and likes using, "Because it makes sense". I would only take this course if you enjoy mathematics or have it as your major, as he rushes through the content not really teaching but glossing over it.
He really wants his students to do well but there is a clear disconnect with students. He tends to get lost in his explanations and often makes simple mistakes. Your grade is almost entirely dependent on exams and the study guides are awful at preparing you for the test. I don't recommend this class to anyone who doesn't have a good math background
