If you can endure this teacher's mindless babble you'll easily get a good grade. He expects you to be able to write very well and most of his assignments are essays. However he is a very easy grader.

Although most of his grading is focused on your writing he is not a hard grader !
1 midterm 1 final 4 writing articales 4 group presentations..finals are blue book essays..jus study exact study guide handed out stick with him...hes ok jus talks about his ex gf alot and food
Quite a few writing assigments. His class is kind of hard, but he's a good teacher. He's very helpful and clear.
It is true that this teacher is arrogant, pretentious, and that he talks a lot about his ex gf and food. But what many fail to mention is that he's a pretty fair grader, and when you get him to talk to you alone, he is so much nicer.
For the older returning students, TAKE HIM. He is so helpful to those that seek him. The first day will seem like hes such an a-hole but its just to get rid of the lazy people. Hes very animated and into history, you will get an A or B if you talk to him!
I actually did not enjoy him as a teacher. His lectures were boring and they kind of pertained to the test. But, he is all talk- just follow directions. Try not to miss too much class
If you'r lazy dont take his class If you have a stuck up shallow sense of humor dont take his class. if your scurd of writing essays my quadrapalegic 2nd cousin's husband's mother's 3 yr old stepdaughter, do not take his class. if you like remembering dates or multiple choise, dont take his class
He is easy, but he does go off on many tangents and his jokes are really bad...sorry. Like someone said before if you can tone that out then you'll pass the class.

By the end of the class, only 6 students were left. I earned an "A" and went on to graduate with a B.A. in History with honors. If you are serious about your education, this is a good place to begin. Talks too much about his personal life. I think he's lonely.
Look it's simple: Go to class, do the reading, follow directions when doing assignments, have him edit your work before you turn in the final, and ask questions if you're stuck. You'll get an A. He offers the help, it's up to you to take him up on it. Good teacher, nice guy.
I took him a few years ago. Went on to transfer to a different school. Even after two years, he is simply the best teacher I've ever had. Don't let the first two weeks of class scare you, he is doing it to get rid of people whom would probably flake out anyways. I learned more in his class than any other, wish more teachers were like him.

summer class: focused at least 2-3 days on things that were not on midterm or final, marks off points for things like spelling error and wrong punctuation, wrong citation, etc. TMI about his wife. can be offensive. books are definitely needed, listening to lectures is not because they're never on tests. offers help, but i dont recommend him.
Awfull professor. Goes off on crazy tangetns like attacking the other history teachers. I had some of them and they are much better. it really upset me when he did that. Avoid his class. His lectures can be confusing as well. only 9 students were left at the end of teh semester.
He is one of those teachers you will either love or hate; I was one who loved him! I found his lectures very colorful and entertaining. You must keep up with the reading each week and attend class. There is a midterm and final, plus several small papers, which are relatively easy. If you are afraid to learn, take someone else. Highly recommended!!
Not a good class. He is a bit odd! tends to go off topic
He was a great teacher, he actually makes you learn. He gives the questions to the Midterm and Final ahead of time, and you have 10 small papers to write wich only take about 15 min to write. He takes points off for spelling and punctuation errors but other than that he is an easy grader. He is very understanding too.

Not exciting class, but not too hard.
Great storyteller. Gets you in shape for future writing requirements through relatively straightforward essays. He's funny if you're not uptight. Need to know how to spell and use punctuaction in this class-shouldn't be hard at this stage in the game.Listen to what he tells you is important and use the study guides-he doesn't lie about whats on test
he knows what he's talking about and gives interesting lectures. some writing, no quizzes; offers all the help you need if you ask.
He's hard. He lectures the entire time of class and you have to do all the reading and always be on track. You're pretty much on your own. You can ask questions and he'll give you the answer, but lecture stinks. It's boring.
HE IS NOT HARD. LECTURES THE ENTIRE TIME SO U HAVE TO B CAREFULL(NO RECORDERS ALLOWED BUT I HID ONE AND IT HELPED WITH THE TESTS) HE GIVES YOU A STUDY GUIDE !!USE IT!!STUDY IT! AND U WILL B K GOT B IN CLASS.GROUP WORK SO EASY AND4HIS WRITING ASS.HE CARE ONLY ABOUT GRAMMER SPELLING ETC! COOL MAN.TALKS ABOUT HIS DIVORCE BUT NICE MAN.
If you come to class, pay attention, and keep up with the reading assignments, you'll pass for sure. Offers much help outside of class through email (practically hands you an A on the writing assignments) if you take the time to contact him. Really knows his material; brings much interest into History. Don't take him if you don't want to learn.
Great teacher but tough class...lectures alot but its interesting...you will learn alot! ONly the midterm and final for test but do all the homework! it will really help your grade! Nice teacher--he's willing to help!
Flores is awesome. He is very helpful for the students who seek it, and encourages an approach towards teaching the subject that goes WAY beyond simple memorization. I felt I was getting a graduate level education from him. Crazily knowledgable on the subject. He is difficult, but it will prepare you for success in upper level courses.
If you know your major & need a class just for distribution, then don't take him. He's an excellent teacher, but there's a lot of work. If you like history and are considering it as a potential major, then he is probably the best teacher you can take at this school. He does talk too much though. Maybe he has A.D.D.
THE COOLEST TEACHER EVER!! i enjoy going to his class because he is a nice guy and can always make u laugh. his lectures are all day but very helpful and the study giudes are awsome because they r practicly the tests so STUDY IT!! in class stuff totaly easy, totaly laid back teacher highly recomended
Very picky. If you do all the articles and get decent grades on them you should do fine. Do the group work and get a decent grade in the midterm and final and you should be able to pass.
He is a great teacher, and extremely passionate about history. People got pissed at him because he joked about them, but get over it, its all in fun. Good guy that wants you to do good, you have to want to also though.
Mr. Flores is totally Mr. History...It's what he lives for and he is such an enjoyable and cool teacher. I loved his perspective because it was relateable and I really understood history for the first time. TAKE HIM but work hard or you will get a poor grade. His tests are all essay so write alot and study the study guides or you will fail the test
I took his 112 class nd i was truly intimidated by him. Honestly, i hated him. But i had to take his 113 class nd i learned to appreciate his knowledge about the subject. He does talk a lot nd his class can be boring, but he is very helpful! He is kind of weird, but i did enjoy his class. Do the articles nd the group project and you should do fine.
Great Professor! Very passionate about history! Lots of reading on your own but theres not alot of homework. Loved the class!
Wow. Dropped his class within 3 days. He's opinionated and extremely arrogant. All he talks about is his ex-wife (he makes it no secret that he doesn't like her) and his ex-life as a priest. Picky and rude.
This teacher seems to be hard at first. He is not if you do the work. You will learn in his class. He is extremely helpful when a person needs help writing papers. He reviews them before you turn it in and gives suggestions. He is not condescending that's what I liked.
ive had some pretty bad professors but this is by far one of the worst. i didnt learn anything in the class and ended up dropping it.i learned more about him and his personal life then history of california. DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! you never use the book and his assignents are unclear.
Mr. Flores is an awesome teacher. He teaches mostly by lecture. Book reading is crucial, I did not do it but I have a good memory of what has happened in History. He expects you to write many reviews of articles and a book review. He is hard at the grading of your paper but if you write well, you will have no problem. Very fun teacher, love his joke
Flores is a grading Nazìright now he is probably picking apart the punctuation and writing ability in this review... and docing my grade for it. He is an awesome teacher wears lots of bowties, and extremely knowledgeable. Wile lecturing you on bad habbits and lack of collegiate ability, quickly mention "Philly Cheese Steaks" and he will fall into a
Let me just say this: our class started with over 30 students. Two months later, we had about 6. No one could stand him. He assigns way too much homework, likes to lecture using complicated words and confusing references just to show off (really, there's NO NEED for all that, no other prof does it), and grades really hard. Don't take him.
yes he is hard and yes he grades hard, but if you want to learn and enjoy interesting facts, take this class. I learned a great deal and enjoyed his class. He does care for his students and only wants the best for them. Go ahead and take him I dare you!
He's hard, and sure you can learn a lot. If you're trying to learn a lot, do it on your own time out of the classroom. The truth is, we're all trying to get good grades to go to good school, getting a bad grade and "learning a lot" isn't going to get you into a better school.
I actually really like this teacher. He makes lectures interesting by telling funny jokes, especially about his ex, The only downfall is he is a WAY hard grader. He does not go in depth about assingments instructions but he grades rediculously hard. He's a ig guy but probably the smartest man i ever met! I would deffinetly date him lol
eh this teacher is hard, talks a lot so you quickly tune out, kinda weird too. over all not my favorite but the class didnt require much which was good
He's so boring, he rambles about random crap then puts in a video so you have to use the text books for tests. If you do use the text book the tests are pretty easy just dont take him unless you have to he's so boring and uses big words for no reason like it just sounds odd when he uses them.
such a cutie! likes to talk... alot.
Mr. Flores hands down is the best teacher in the history department. He is hard but he will teach you how to write a college level paper. I can not stress how important it is to stay up with the class work and homework. There will be alot of reading and a few papers to write. If you are about to tranfer to State or UC take his class.Gilbert Pina
why is everyone saying hes cute? must be the lonely old ladies at cypress. flores is a hard grader and rambles about crap like he expects you to be a history major and follow with ease. the group projects are retarded and unnecessary, but if you love little jokes every now and then this is the professor for you.
Although Flores expects you to think that he is a strict professor he is actually very kind and helpful. He is strict on grading papers, but he also gives you the opportunity to learn from your mistakes. He reminds me of the COMIC BOOK GUY from the Simpsons...
do not bother going in with the "im ready to get an A on every assignment"attitude cuz that will be smashed with the F that you will receive on the first assignment.grades like a Nazi English teacher!makes barking and kissing noises during videos and is always sarcastic. a lot of essays&reading but easy group proj.
I could not stand this teacher he always made rude remarks and made me feel uncomfortable in class. He is really hard tons of essays there were 6 before the midterm and the midterm was really hard. Couple of group projects not clear on any assignments. He plays a lot of videos and assigns tons of reading. I would not take this class at all.
Flores is a very strict teacher you will learn from.If you are a History Major take him!! He will prepare you for University. I took 4 classes with him and feel confident I will do well at the Cal State level.
Dr. Flores is awesome! Despite what others on here say, he really cares about his students. His class will not only prepare History majors, but every major! I guarantee, by the end of his class you will know how to write a real college level paper.
I took his hybrid online course the Spring, but ended up dropping it after a little over a month. Flores is Anal Retentive when it comes to English standards! Plus you're reading at least over 100-200 Pages evey week. Avoid him at all costs!!!
avoid this professor.about 20 plus people in my class dropped.boring class.makes a wheezing noise.horrible
first time, you will not like him. but don't drop. you will definetely like him after several days pass. his lectures aren't good and his teaching skills are vague, but you will pass this class if you do all your homework. lots of article essays.if you talk to him individually he will like you. IF YOU DONT HAVE PRINTER AT YOUR HOME, DON'T TAKE
Is he challenging? Yes, but that's a good thing. He prepares all the students for University classes, which will be much tougher than this. He makes history interesting and different than other teachers. If people simply ask questions, show up on time, and actually write a college style essay, then this class will be fun for you. He is great!!
This class was very boring. Teacher shows a lot of videos and lectures off topic sometimes. But overall if you do your homework and study your study guide . you will definitely pass the class with a good grade. His study guides are basically the whole test.
Took him for a summer class. Very rigorous course. Loads of reading, loads of writing assignments. Easy group projects, his exams are long in-class essays. His attitude seemed very belittling towards his students. One of my least favorite teachers, but I was surprised that I passed with a B. But..it took A LOT OF WORK. Up for the challenge?
should not take this class, it's boring and off topic
this guy is horrible, please do not take him if you wanna pass college
Although Prof. Flores may harbor a tough and rigid exterior at first, he really only acts in a way to gain your respect, he will like you if you speak in person with him, and ask questions, as well as question his lectures. As he says "I am not the most politically correct person, nor do I aim to be." He is strict, and is perpetually challenging.
ok so, yes he can be difficult but his class is not that hard to pass. do all your work and you should be fine. haha even though half the class dropped this semester in this class XD
If you are really interested in learning take Dr. Flores. He is a tough grader, but will take the time to help you if you take the time to ask. I highly recommend him!
Professor Flores comes off as scary and intimidating but if you ask questions you will see he is not mean. Definitely ask for help as he says himself that he is vague in directions! Do all the essays and write a lot in the exams and you will pass!:D
I took both levels of world history with him. If you want to learn take his class and stick with it. Do your assignments, and do the reading every week. In the end you will learn to write great papers and learn many interesting facts about history. Some may disagree but i actually found him very funny. I am grateful to have had him as a teacher.
Flores is very corny. His lectures are long but cover little material. He is a very tough grader and gives difficult (essay) tests. Easily the most difficult class of college so far, and I'm a History major!
Took 112 with him. He was super nice at first, We would talk before class. I did all but two of my homework assignments (and there was a lot) got c's on my tests and A's on both my group projects. I only missed the class once... So how the HECK did I get an F in the class??? I asked him about it, and he said I didnt apply myself. Ummm, Okay????
I took History 112 & 113. He's super funny if you actually pay attention. Just do your assignments and if you fail them ASK FOR HELP. He may seem intimidating but he's nice. Do study for the final I mean he gives you the study guide. Do not be lazy.
He is a very nice man with a good heart. He is tough, but it is college. He is actually doing everyone a favor by not giving any slack! great professor!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TEACHER !!!!!!!
If you are a lazy student do not take this teacher. His class basically consists of lectures and videos. A paper is due every other week. He is a very tough grader. Do not take him if you have no completed an English class! There is a midterm and a final. Both in essay form. Also a couple group presentations. ASK FOR HELP TOO! He can be vague.
this class with flores is easy. ask him for help (and keep on asking if hes sarcastic) and when u dont do well on ur paper ( and u wont do well on ur first paper) ask him why u got the grade u did. DONT GET ON HIS BAD SIDE
Well, lets just say he is not a professor who anyone would look to take other classes by. He just straight up lectures, 90% of the time without powerpoints. He's unclear and mumbles a lot. Very sarcastic, zones out, snorts in the middle of sentences. He's hard to understand and VAGUEEE! I'm sure he's a nice guy, just not very effective at teaching.
bad teacher, bad
Mr. Flores is a great guy. He is extremely sarcastic and desires his student's attention. His HIST171 class is definitely a difficult class. Nonetheless, I think he is a great teacher and extremely knowledgeable! Take him if you really want to learn.
I love this class! If you need to build skills to truly advance in life and perhaps transfer to a university, TAKE THIS CLASS! Taking this course challenges you to excel and you need to be on your toes. This is not the class to take if you wish to coast through life living off of taxpayers. Put in the effort and get the 10/10 on your paper!
class isn't all that bad.....not like a normal history class with powerpoint, he lectures about EVERYTHING! email and ask questions. midterm and final are 5 essays not multiply choice question. i got a B and i BS all my papers
He's a very helpful teacher; however, you will be required to be on point with everything. You have an essay due almost every week, which must be grammar free and very well set up. He encourages students to email him prior to turning it in to proofread it, but expects way too much from his students. He should consider teaching honors classes.
loved every second of it! his lectures may be a little tedious, but as long as you really listen youll be fine on the midterm and final. Read teh text book! Hd one page book reviews every other week. few group presentations and the midterm and final are short essay format, but he gives you the question before hand as a "review"
Ridiculously off point about 99% of the time. He doesn't talk about history, he talks about what HE thinks about histroy. Essays almost every week, and they don't even have to be about history. He grades mostly on GRAMMAR. Shoulda been a eng teacher instead. -.- Midterm and Final are like 5 essay questions. AVOID him if possible!!
Don't expect to glide through his class. Attending class and doing the homework will only get you a C. He has a very high drop rate; half our class was gone by mid-semester. Have your essay homework graded early by email; he is very strict on grammar and will dock points. Don't take this class if you are bad with writing.
His class is NOT easy! but IF you talk to him (which few people do..due to intimidation) it is very simple. He checks your papers before you turn it in if you choose too. If you dont get something ASK QUESTIONS. You only use one book, the smaller one. The other is not necessary. USE YOUR OWN RESEARCH FOR THE MID/FINAL
he is very helpful. weird yes but very entertaining at times. Essays are due every week. But just be very descriptive and youll get full credit all the time. 3 group projects which i hated but were super easy. His study guides match the midterm/final perfectly so do them and your good.you can literally go to class and sleep and youll still pass!!
The class itself was pretty good. He is a great presentator. He keeps interest. A 1 page essay almost every week(not super dfficult, but also annoying). Pretty easy grader on the essays(only on grammar and spelling) but he grades harshly on the midterm and finals. Take if you want.
By all means, avoid his class.
Honestly, Prof. Flores comes off as immature at first. Then he gets real serious about his work once the course begins flow. He is very helpful! if you have any questions or having a hard time understanding something then meet him during his office hours and he will help!! Go to the extra credit event. if you don't like to read avoid this class.
He is a freak about participation! There are ten essay questions on his tests. You choose which FIVE you want. If you are lazy do not take Flores. A two page paper is due every other week. He is a tough grader. Do not take him if you have not completed English comp! There is a midterm and a final. ASK FOR HELP! He will edit your papers if you ask!
Professor Flores is nice & caring if you get to know him. He does seem a bit immature in class but that is just because he actually has a sense of humor. He is a tough grader but it helps you improve for the next assignment. I would take his class during the school semester b/c he goes way too fast during the summer. But don't expect an easy A or B
Please do not make the mistake I did and take this class unless you absolutely neeeeed it. It is not worth it no matter how interested you are. He just basically talks about himself the entire time and makes lame and sometimes offensive jokes that he thinks are funny. You honestly learn more from the textbook than from him. I was miserable.
Ha just bother with this guy. Acts like hes the best teacher in the world yet hes far from it. Only tries to show off how much he knows instead of teaching or explaining it. Midterm didnt even have to do with material he covered. Would have been better if all the questions were about himself since thats most what he talks about. I'd say avoid.
Prof. Flores is a jokester, but with a comedic sense of a 10 yr old. He's very knowledgeable about history, a grammar natzi, so if your english mechanics suck, avoid his class. You must be reading constantly or you will do poorly. I've learned so much, and eagerly await more history. Pretty girls get away with murder in his class. He is a dork.
This wasn't one of my favorite classes. Flores should not give himself as much credit as he does. He's nice 1-on-1 but can be bizarre in class. He grades everything on grammar rather than anything regarding your content. Essay midterm/final, but the study guide is the same as the test. And you must read a HORRIFYINGLY boring book for a 7 pg review.
The class work is challenging but the class structure is actually quite simple. Read the short chapters, write the 1 pg papers, don't try and get too fancy about it, have him proof-read them, and get full credit. Easiest group "projects" ever. Gives test essay questions before hand. Go to his office and HE WILL HELP YOU!! And he will like you more.
O boy was this a challenging class. I took it as an incoming freshman at Cypress and it prepared me for academia at the university level. Now I am at my last semester at CSUF and I believe it I owe a great thanks to Professor Flores.
The hardest grader. Really have to work to receive an A. Technically another English class. But he's willing to answer any questions and encourages you to ask them. However, sometimes they are open ended answers to get you thinking but he's a good teacher and gives a whole new perspective on History.
very informative, productive class, not easy which makes the learning process more intense, history is presented as a collection of memories, experiences and ideas accumulated from our ancestors; continues to transform our reality to present day. How that information is processed and handled will determine dominance in the future of our country.
Flores is amusing and strange, but it keeps his class interesting and energetic. As long as you do the work and have good grammar you should get at least a C. It may feel like your "walking on eggshells" the entire semester, but if you see him in his office he will be very helpful. The class is worth taking and will benefit you in other classes
Took this class one semester, failed with a straight F, and re-took it again many semesters after and got an A. Honestly, just do all the homework assignments. It's basically just summaries of 2 passages then comparisons of them. Also, the exams are exactly the questions on the study guide, except only 2-3 of the questions will be there.
Just do all the assignments, project, and book report and you'll get a passing grade even if you do not do that well on the exams. I failed one semester because I barely did any work, then next few semesters I re-took the class and passed with an A. Assignments are an easy A.
He is a great teacher- my favorite at this college. People do not like his style of grading since he doesn't use scantrons. There are 3 group projects & a book review. He's easy to talk too & will help you when needed. His study guides are the tests so know them. I learned so much in the classes I had & would take more classes with him. Amazing!!
Very difficult class and it is a lot of work. If you are hoping to get an easy A or B do not take him! It is hard just to pass this class without considering dropping it. He is rude, too.
Please make the smart decision to never take this class! He is extremely immature and when you ask questions he will speak to you as if you are dumb. He is very rude and insulting. By all means, AVOID THIS CLASS!
Professor Flores is such a wonderful and accomplished individual. I recommend this class only if your mature, a lot of people think he's mean and rude but he is far from that!!! He truly has so much knowledge and knows so much! if you cant appreciate his knowledge and apply it to learn then don't bother taking this course! Thanks Dr. Flores.
Not the best I have had. He is not clear on instructions very well. His due dates are very weird. Still was confused on due dates in syllabus even after I asked. According to syllabus, the due dates were due on a Monday. Example: assignments and readings for the week of May 5 (Monday May 5) were due on Monday May 5. Just weird set up.
I wonder why he is so rude with students who ask questions and actually show interest, polite with students who he just likes just because he is partial towards students from his similar belief system.
He is a good teacher overall but you need to understand what he wants. At the first he is very tough and wants to get rid of the lazy students. Just do what he wants and you'll do could. He will help you if you ask him to. The study guides for his exams are almost the same as the exams with a diff format .
Flores is a cool professor. he's super friendly and willing to help students during office hours. the class is pretty simple, read the chapter article and write a paper. everything lectured in class is on the midterm and final.
He has a very bad attitude. He is so disrespectful to his students. He taunts people and belittles them. I would never ever ever suggest him to anyone. Why is he still teaching. He should have been fired or sued a long time ago for harassment.
Class is straight forward! Although the lectures do cover a lot SOMETIMES, it is always correlated to the current readings. Stick to the schedule and come to class and you'll do great. Students complaining probably expected to get away with not completing homework, readings, andor lecture. May take his 113 class in the future, fun class.
Mr. Flores is a great professor, he is very inspirational and helpful when it comes to his assignments and even outside of the class room. He was the one that helped me transfer from Cypress Community College and I am now currently a student at SUNY Maritime College, pay attention and take good notes Sincerely, Cadet Guerrero 1st Class
This is an online class. You have review papers as well as a midterm, all fill in the blank, and blackboard questions. There is a lot of reading and a lot of papers due in this class. Every week, sometimes twice a week is due. Make sure you have time for his class. He does email you back in a timely matter and tries to answer your questions.
I took the history class online and it was a lot of work and very hard. He is a fair grader, but the work must be PERFECT to receive and A. He does email you back and tries to help with anything possible. Make sure you are always checking everyday on blackboard. It was a lot of reading, discussion posts & papers.
First of all, his online class is COMPLETELY essay style. There is no multiple choice anything. Discussion boards-essay style, (7) 3 page-essay style article reviews, mid-term-essay style and final essay style. Plus you have a 5-7 page book report - essay style. A lot of reading and writing. One 10 point extra credit project. Overall, easy.
Be prepared for intense reading, and essay papers weekly. History is an easy and fun course Ive taken before at another college and got an A. Not here. My advice is to keep away from his class. You are dealing with an egotistical teacher. His unusual style, unclear due dates, discourtesy, and teaching tactics are unscrupulous and embarrassing
I just registered for his online class and already feeling overwhelmed after looking at his syllabus. Too wordy when he explains things via BB. Seems like he expects a lot from his students. I mean come on, it's a history class.... ani't nobody got time foe dat! Too bad I have to stay in this course to be able to apply to a program
I took this class as a Senior at a UC school to finish 1 GE requirement I had left. I am an honors student that will be attending graduate school. Never before have I taken a class where expectations and requirements were so obscure, vague, and unclear. Grading was entirely subjective and inadequate feedback was given. Do NOT take.
Flores is a good teacher, he tries to be funny during lecture. Expect to turn in a page essay on the book he assigns every week. His grading is rough, check your grammar and misspelled words. Deducts point for those mistakes. Also, read everything he tells you to, in order to pass his midterm and final. BTW,do the practice hound out for the test
His lectures may be long and boring, but what history class isn't? He does his best to make it interesting, really nice & funny. I received a B, only because I did not do so well on the midterm since I arrived late and did not hear his instructions. Overall, he assigns short papers each week I believe, but they are EASY. Great professor (:
Is this History or is this English class? If you hate writing essays don't take this class. Your Hw, Discussion Board posts, and Tests are ALL in essay format graded hard! I googled more about the usage of citations, colons, semi-colons, and spelling than i did of the actual material we were suppose to read.. which are 3 text books.
Great professor, do as your told. Does explain the syllabus dates may change, some people need to get over it LOL. Fun class, if you snooze, YOU LOSE. Does grade on point with papers, so turn in a rough draft or REREAD IT, simple as that. Makes the class interesting and is lots of fun. Very knowledgeable and is very inspiring! EASY CLASS!
Took his online class, and we'll it was pretty straight forward. If you like to write essays this is the class for you; however, if you don't he will help you throughout the whole semester. Just email him, and he is sure to reply within a few hours.
This is the worst class you can ever take. Not only is his work hard but he's also really annoying. I don't recommend his U.S history class in any way. Also, he gives lots of essays and doesn't clarify much on what is needed.
To be honest this class was extremely difficult but well worth it. He makes you work for your grade and I appreciated the toughness, odd i know. If you have questions always email him and ask don't just sit back and expect things to happen. I recommend this class if you want a professor to keep you on your toes.
Yo, Flores is the homie! Good times like fine wine. Don't expect hard work unless you're an idiot. Cool class, thanks for the knowledge bruh
There is definitely a lot of reading in this class, so expect that! Papers are due every week so don't get behind on those. I really enjoyed this class and was also taking HIST 113 at the same time. You do work a bit in the class but it's definitely worth taking.
hate this class so much, he doesn't give good notes, he already gave us a paper on the first day of class, class gets off topic too much and we learn nothing, he gives essays every week and his test are essays, i might just fail this class, i can't do anything about it because he is the only teacher that teaches this subject, someone fix his bowtie
This class is ridiculous. He is rude and disrespectful to his students. I had a higher grade in English than I did in his class and it wasn't because I didn't know my history. His class is all essays and his grading is unrealistic. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. PS do not email him from a cell phone he will yell at you.
Prof. Flores is a pretty good professor. He is funny and makes lectures interesting. He is a tough grader and a lot of people tend to drop out but believe me, this is the type of professor that will make you a better student. He is incredibly helpful if come to his office hours and will be more than glad to provide feedback. Really friendly guy
Do not take this teacher for any classes he teaches under any circumstances. He does not give multiple choice, instead you write endless papers that he does not grade based on accuracy of the historical content, but on your grammar and if you wrote it in the format he wants. Very egotistical.
Not a bad teacher, overall lectures are pretty easy to understand. Essays are easy. The test are hard, so much info he expects for the little that he lectures about. Have to work and study for hours for the test. Probably best to have a group. Aside from test, pretty good class. Just try your hardest and exaggerate what you know on the test
Lectures are really long. He provides study guide and you need to research the answers in the book because he doesn't explain them in his lectures .
Let me just start by saying that English 100 is advisable for this class. However, even if you got straight As in English it won't matter. Mr. Flores grades his students' numerous papers AND essay-format tests on grammar more than actual facts. He also wants papers written in his own specific format as opposed to the standard MLA. AVOID!
He is a good teacher. He assigns one book review and seven essays. He also assigns three group projects. The midterm is 5 in class essays and the final is 3 in class essays. I was so scared to take this class, but in the end I really liked and enjoyed it. It was a lot of papers, make sure to email him many rough drafts to get a's on all of them.
Essay heavy, a few group projects. His tests are tough since they're free response, but he gives a study guide and all the resources. Kinda low class retention so don't go in unless you're ready. Do your work/study and you'll pass. He's funny too! You basically get what you put in and I guarantee you will learn something!
Weekly paper, a chance to get feedback via in-person or email to get full credit (take advantage). Don't plan on missing class unless you read the scheduled readings! Tests (2) are easy IMO, test review is given, test ALMOST identical. Flores is also very knowledgeable, funny and courteous! One of my fav. profs. @ Cypress!
He grades grammar not history. The style of which he grades is not directly in line with Chicago Press Manual of Style like it says on his syllabus. If you don't laugh at his inappropriate jokes and political commentary, he will mark you down for the most arbitrary reasons, and he will never give a direct source for his rulings.
Great professor, I respect him highly! Great sense of humor and is very fast to respond to emails. Gives guidelines on how he grades everything which helps a lot. Learned a lot about many cultures and origins of many. Wish he taught more classes!
i found this professor off putting. he was kind of rude which i could get past if i felt like i was learning a lot in his class. i would have rather just read the book and show up for tests but i couldn't do that seeing as you have group projects and papers due every week. didnt learn anything and seeing him on his high horse every day was annoying
His class was one of the most legit and straight forward classes I've taken online. Highly respected! Invited students to his live classes as well when available. Very responsive, and wants students to pass and prosper. If you don't try, you won't win.
Took him for 3-4 of his classes (lost count). Great guy! Gives what he wants throughout the whole class pretty much in the syllabus if not corrected or said during lecture. Good concepts covered in class as well, easy class if you can follow directions. One extra credit offered that actually helps and two test which are covered entirely by guides.
Great prof! Wish I had more required classes so I can take them with him. Solid choice, and is a real hoot! Fun class
A weekly paper (almost), one group project, and two exams. Weekly paper graded based on students understanding of concepts and grammar, group project was dumb easy, and exam reviews are given (almost exactly like the exams). Prof. Flores has really made me reconsider becoming a history major. Great guy, he just can't force feed you the stuff.
You would think this teacher is teaching English based on his expectation of your essay submissions. He will send you papers back to correct the most minuscule grammatical errors(even if you just have one). Not to mention he requires you to write 8 papers through the semester and does not provide your final grades with feedback.
Id advise anyone who is not a strong writer or is not familiar with grammatical correctness to avoid taking this class. The class itself is not challenging but this professor will not hesitate to make you rewrite a paper after already investing time in effort into writing one. He doesn't provide constructive feedback but rather gammatical feedback.
Great professor, class was alright, content of the class was awesome. Learned a lot and can now construct many concepts of civilizations everywhere I go. Grades of grammar but does offer rough draft reading and responds real fast!
Took the online class, responsive, knowledgeable and a great sense of humor. I always learn something each lesson. A must take! Be ready for rough drafts and spell check!
Absolutely the WORST professor I've ever taken. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. Some professors are difficult but they mean well--this professor? Yeah, no. He basis his grades off of response papers and discussion boards. He doesn't even grade you on the content of your work but rather your grammar/syntax/diction etc. Absolutely ridiculous. Pls, Pls avoid.
Boring stuff, but the class is easy once you get past the bore. Don't miss class and be on point with the material. Easy Pass
THE WORST. I consider myself to be a hard worker and a great writer. This teacher will pick your paper apart and will give you a poor grade based on your writing skills/grammar. He does not care about the content or your time and effort. He Also gives one word responses and poor feedback. Avoid this class! I wish qualified for a refund.
Great class, learned more in his history classes than my time in grade school. Read the weekly article and write your paper and you'll be absolutely fine. Professor does grade on grammar but allows rough drafts for these papers! Gives a study guide that looks EXACTLY like the exam which there are two. DO NOT FALL BEHIND, seen a lot of students drop
Took the online course! He requires message board responses to make sure you are keeping up with the material and the discussions are a great way to hear other opinions but at times gets cluttered by dead responses by zombie students. After getting used to his class, doing ALL the HW and doing a rough draft every paper, I got an A.
Great professor! A little bit of reading, but duh, its a history class. He is actually really into the history which makes it a bit more bearable and fun. Very knowledgeable and considerate, visit him if you have any issues or troubles, has always worked with me and my downfalls when I needed help. Wish he taught political science!
Flores is a great teacher! He will get you to think. Will take a paper or two to get used to his criteria, but you do have to do the work. As long as you do all the essays, you'll be fine. TAKE HIM!
Best history teacher I've had, hands down. Great class and interesting as hell (if you appreciate other cultures).
Apart from ruining "ancient aliens" and debunking it, I had fun in this class. Great material and a nice learning experience!
I enjoyed just about all his lectures. Don't think twice about having Flores for just about any history course!
Professor Flores is a wonderful teacher, learning from him was easy if you need extra help he is there for you. This is my second time taking his class, and it was DEAD easy.
I would ever take this class again. Lots of papers... which he grades off grammar not the work you put in. Worried about presentations? He will criticize you in front of class which is terrifying. I wish I knew what I signed up for or else I would of avoided it by a long shot. He's a decent person though, just not a teaching style I prefer.
WOW, great professor. 7 article papers which students can turn in rough drafts before due to ensure full credit (2 pages, double spaced). Study guide is IDENTICAL to the exam and provides very clear feedback. If you do not put in effort, you will not succeed, a lot of students drop, TRUST, ITS HISTORY CLASS. Stay on top of papers & exam review!!!!!
Flores is a very professional and insightful professor. Learned more in his class than any other history class I've previously taken. Turned in all my work (mostly on time), did all my work and went through each question on the study guides (basically the same) and I got an A.
I'll admit this prof and I got off to a rough start. I wasn't expecting so many essays and for just their grammar to be graded. But as the course went on I saw he graded pretty fairly, the midterm and final are graded on accuracy of information. He provides great extra credit opportunities, including tours of Pomona! Very nice. Changed my mind!
STAY AWAY! Every assignment requires you to read material and then complete a written assignment. All exams are essay format and they're timed! The manor in which he grades your papers is in my opinion excessive because he will mark you down for missing a comma or any other grammatical errors. You're required to read an entire book and it's boring.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE! In the syllabus he states he will look down upon you as a student and change your grade if you email him from a cellphone and not a computer because it is disrespectful. Essays are strictly graded for grammar and not actual content. Comes off as rude and not helpful. Get ready to write an essay every week.
This professor should become an English professor, not History. Sometimes, people have emergencies and have to email over the phone, but he does not allow that. You won't get a response. He needs to stop expecting so highly from students who most of them won't even major in History. At least people are putting effort, but he expects more than that
Not your typical humanities class where you can delay work and not read, you will have to work for your grade. Has weekly two page (dbl spaced) papers and two exams with near exact reviews. Easy B! Flores is hilarious as well, tries to make the history fun (which to many is boring)
Great professor, sad that I cannot take anymore of his classes. Don't fall behind on your papers, get them read before turning in (rough draft) and do the midterm/final reviews (almost exact) and you will be fine. Flores will probably be annoyed of my poor grammer in this review. So be good with the grammer guys, seriously reread your paper
I have been on the deans list at Cypress every semester I've been at Cypress and this professor was the worst professor I've ever had. Treats his HISTORY class like a English class and will mark you down more for grammar then the actual content. Went to his office, incredibly rude and disrespectful. Very unclear directions on everything, don't take
Great professor, took his online class. Usual stuff, discussion board responses and readings. Exams require free responses to show you know the material, so don't forget to check out and go over the reviews!
DO not take! Very rude and will not clarify instructions when you ask questions.
This professor is a very harsh grader. I don't appreciate the fact that he cares more about grammar than the actual understanding of the paper. My grade has fell drastically due to the way he grades. I do not recommend him at all. Hopefully, there are easier History 170 professors.
I enjoy Dr. Flores' class I have taken multiple courses with him. He is very knowledgeable and cares a lot about his students however he may rub some people the wrong way. He is very blunt about everything and does not sugarcoat anything. Also don't make things hard for yourself do the work early!
First of all, history is one of my favorite subjects. Yes there are a lot of books to read, but they are all good books. Buy used! The History of the Postal Age was actually alright, just keep reading and it will be okay. Do the reviews, the midterm and finals are exactly the same as the review questions! Difficult class, but you learn a great deal
Took him last semester, and definitely would not recommend to anyone who are not a history/English major. Lots of reading and papers. Your grade will depend mainly on papers, group projects, and midterm/final. Lecture was all over the place. Midterm/final was pretty rough to study for. Very blunt and brags a lot during lecture. Would not take again
Harsh grader and loads of essays. Essays were doable but grades papers as if everyone is an english major.
He is the worst professor in cypress college he doesn't help u he is a tough grader like he could be a English 100 teacher and I wouldn't recommend taking him and he talk about himself
Great professor! English 100 should be a pre-req, he grades on concepts and grammar. A lot of students dropped as they got bored, as the class is indeed a history class in which people got lazy. Flores has always been helpful and even read rough drafts, find out what he wants and you'll easily pass with a 'B'! Learned a lot from his class!
If you're gonna write a paper, especially in college, expect to be able to have proper grammar or develop it. Flores is heavily criticized to drop points on proper grammar, once you are able to get proper with MLA formatting and citing, his class was a BREEZE. Serio, 2 tests, & reviews are 98% similar. If you have bad grammar, take another prof.
Already transferring and Flores is one of the best profs at Cypress. Very inspiring and VERY knowledgeable. If he does not something, he isn't afraid to admit it. He is also a politician with an awesome sense of humor!
Like many people have already stated so many papers. It is simple busy work. English is not the professor's first language. He does not know how to communicate with the students. His replies are very condescending. He is aware of how unnecessarily difficult his class is and even states it in his syllabus. DON'T TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!
Do whatever you can to avoid Flores. He obsesses over grammar in essays but is horrible at communicating his expectations on assignments. If you're a Cal State student trying to do this as a summer course, do yourself a favor and just take it as an extra course at your University. He treats his GE summer course like it were a graduate level course.
Great professor, I honestly enjoyed every class, but that might be cause I'm into history. The professor does his best to make the class interesting! 2 Exams (reviews are 90% similar) and a biweekly paper which is only two pages. I have learned a lot through Flores, very inspiring!
Michael is an awesome professor! Really knows the material well, and you are graded on few things. He grades the bi-weekly 2 pg paper on grammar, but that allows is pretty much open response just like his exams. You simply have to prove you learned something, and can reflect on the themes introduced during class. Pretests are similar to exams.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This teacher acts like this is an english class and he has a terribly condescending attitude towards students. Tons of essays about pointless topics. He takes his class way to seriously and teaches as if we are all history majors. Worst class I've ever taken PERIOD. Please find another professor and save yourself the headache.
Is indeed a tough grader on papers and grammar, but gives the option of rough drafts which should be mandatory imo. Hilarious and he is always on time. A great professor!
Weekly two page paper (double spaced) so it turns out to be one, we watch videos, and have discussions. SUPER easy to pass, literally just do the papers from the readings, and the midterm/final is LITERALLY given to you before the test a week or so before, all he does is combine some questions. He does not tolerate slackers or bad grammar.
Difficult but, gets you ready for a 4 year university
Michael has a tendency to be very moody. If you ask him lots of questions and turn in drafts, you'll probably pass. If you are not an English major you should not take his class. He's less interested in having his students succeed than in maintaining his ego. I haven't figured out his grading system yet.
I have to completely agree with everyone who says DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! If you care at all about your GPA, you won't do it! He treats it like an English class and grades on how the papers are written, rather than your understanding of the material. I dropped him after he gave me a D on a paper for font size. Extremely full of himself too.
Professor Flores does make you work for your grade. However, I learned so much from him about writing essays that I was able to earn better grades in the rest of my classes. He is also very reasonable. I called him out on something I thought was unfair and he reversed course and changed my grade. In addition, he gives extra credit for a field trip.
A great prof. however, I believe English 100 should be a pre-req for this course. Flores is very tidy about grammar, but if you read the material, have a pulse and can respond, you will EASILY pass. I sent drafts to him a day before each paper was due, and always got full credit after his feedback (he even corrects it). Exams are the reviews itself
Flores is awesome! Had some good laughs in his class, too bad I'm not a history major, although I have much interest in it. He can go on and on about history cause he is truly passionate about it! Turn in rough drafts of your assigned reading papers and do the reviews and you will definitely get at least a B in his class.
Dr. Flores is a great instructor and really prepares you for upper division classes. If English is not your strength, consider taking someone else, or take him and improve your writing skills. He knows a lot about history and geeks out whenever possible. A very well rounded professor and has a great sense of humor. Very transparent on Exams and HW.
I've taken 3 classes with him, and enjoyed all of them. Not a lot of people like history, if that is you, don't take him cause it'll be a snooze fest. He is very organized and clear of what he expects from students. Simply do all the papers on time (send in rough drafts also) and study the exam reviews and you can easily get a B. Funny guy!
