Took his intro physics course over the summer. Alot of info in 5 weeks. First test was tricky but 1 test is dropped. Not a bad guy but have to work extremely hard to get A. Very passionate about physics and astronomy. Avoid taking in summer. Too much info
took his astromony class and it was great... it was not very easy but he is a great teacher who i believe enjoys teaching and makes us learning about it too. a lot of info but it was very interesting.
i didnt take this class seriously at all, barely listened, and ditched a lot but still managed a B. the tests are open book / open notes, but still manage to be really hard if you dont study! he gives extra credit opportunities, and two simple projects/essays. hes REALLY chill and understands that you dont want to be there. GREAT GUY!
He is a very nice guy and a very good teacher
He's a great teacher, he tries to explain all the difficult bits in ways that you understand, and writes vocabulary and diagrams on the board. Homework is few and far between, one test gets dropped, all tests are open book and note... You don't even have to go, really, but he's a cool guy, & lets you eat whenever. He always has coffee in class.
It was a great class, interesting as well as easy. My interest in this subject has grown since this class.
He is a great teacher with a passion for what he does. His tests are multiple choice open book, but the questions are hard...you have to do the reading! I came to class because I loved learning about the universe. Very intelligent and to the point...
You can tell he loves to teach! He will always make time to explain things for you. Really understanding about students' schedules and just wants you to learn and have fun.
He has no idea how to teach. He incourges questions then when asked he becomes irritated. He singles people out and then proceeds to ignore them and be unhelpful to them.
Easy and understanding teacher. Let's you out early. Take him.
check his ratings, need I say more !! most caring professor around, you will do very well regardless of what you think, he will help you through everything, you will thank me later just finish the class!!
Professor Frey is one of those people you can't help but like. He's nice, modest, and willing to help. The class itself is not made to be hard. You get open note tests (put anything you want there; he encourages it) and an open note & book final. The problem lies in the complexity of the subject. Nevertheless, it's very possible to do well.
He's fun and very helpful. Do the reading and come prepared for the exams! The only mistake I made was taking it in the summer (way too compressed).
This teacher is one of the best in Cypress College. He is very understanding. He always let's you out early. Very clear and concise. Highly Recommended.
Great teacher and great class to take for your Gen. Ed. requirements... A+
Best teacher I've had. He's so understanding and ALWAYS lenient on work we have to turn in. He always extends due dates and test dates because he figures that would help. Tests are easy because he basically gives all the answers in his simple lectures.. all you have to do is show up and take down notes on whatever he writes on the board.
Michael is such a cool teacher, he loves it when students ask questions so he can help everyone. You can tell he has such passion for his subjects and you can't help but feel passionate about it with him. He's also very very helpful, so take his class!
His excitement about physics makes the class much more interesting. He also helps by explaining how some of the simpler concepts that he talks about will be applied later in other physics classes that you take. He is also very open to questions. Great teacher!
prepare yourself to hear entertaining, but repeated stories about stuff only kind of related to astronomy. a little unclear but if you ask him for help he'll try his best. enthusiastic.
Great teacher.Just show up to class everyday write down all his notes and read assigned material=A.Barely any HW if there is, it's completed in less than 15 mins.Recommend for ASTR116.
Great Teacher~ Frey is very lenient on due dates.. gives extra credit.. and is an awesome teacher. =) Just make sure to write notes and listen to the lecture and your guaranteed an A
This teacher is a superbrilliant guy. I took his Astron. lab and I found the material VERY difficult, very hard to grasp. I thought that his lectures went at a fast pace, too. BUT, even so, because I went to every class and took good notes and his lenient grading scale, I got an A. I would take a class from him again.
This is the most careing professor I have ever met !! Thanks Professor Frey for making a difference. I want to take more of his classes even when I dont need them.
he is a good teacher, although sometimes the class was kind boring, he let students using their notes and textbook during the test, so his test wouldnt be too hard for everyone. the bad thing about this courses is he try to cover a lot material , and some of them were hard to understand. he is nice, a person who always want to help students.
PROFESSOR FREY IS AN AWESOME TEACHER !!!!
Professor Frey is an awsome professor. He is very helpful and will encourage you to go in and see him anytime if you have questions. He is very fair and his lectures are very clear. You'll enjoy his class :)
i got 2 classes wit this guy. phys 130 and astr 116. i admit, hes really easy and kick back. but hes super boring and not so interesting. he keep using the same joke over n over again. and u can imagine i got 2 classes wit him. for example: he would say something like 'i will throw this pencil and hit u right in ur nose.. and the velocity blah bla"
He's a good guy, but sometimes his lectures can get hard to follow. Allows you to use notes on tests, but this doesn't necessarily save you, because if you don't study you can still do bad.
He's quite a character. I never fell asleep or got bored during his lectures, that's for sure :) He really liked the phrase "Is that clear?"
His notes are pretty clear, but it doesn't really relate to the tests most of the time. Tests are open note and the final is open book. Easy to get points with the homework and "projects"
This guy was way cool. Even if astronomy isn't your thing (wasn't mine!) he makes it at least somewhat interesting. If you have to take a science, take it with this guy. Study, do whats required and you'll get AT LEAST a B. I got an A and it wasn't hard to get it. Just do the few assignments he gives and show up to class.
He is down to earth and as long as you show up and show some interest you will definitely pass.He gives 3 exams, 1 paper, 2 projects(easy) and 1 final. He lectures throughout most of the class which can be very boring but make sure you attend because occasionally he will give answers to the test questions.
Michael is fantastic. His tests were either open note or open book. He is a nice guy and will help you if you dont understand him. His lab was tough, but if you show up every session, you will get at least a C. Talk to him about the Lakers. He's a huge fan and will grade you easy. Great teacher. Recommended.
professor frey was a bit disorganized and his class was a bit boring but he tried his best to keep people interested.i recomend going to class b/c he gives hints about what is on his exams. over all he is a nice guy. he uses the phrase "is that clear?" to much and the star party is funner than it sounds.
As long as you do all the work and extra credit you will get a B. You can fail the finals and you'll still get a B. I didnt learn one inch in that class but I passed!
One of the greatest professors I've had. Does a great job at making complex concepts quite comprehensible. He jumps at the chance to help his students and will work with you all the way. Extremely knowledgable in muliple subjects (I hear his Physics class is great). Take any class he is teaching and you will not regret it.
Prof. Frey has been the nicest prof. I've had. He's a GREAT teacher and tries his hardest to keep his students motivated. Easy, but fun projects and pretty simple tests(only 3). Do the extra credit; they're easy and fun. Make sure you are ready for the essay questions on the tests...it will make it super easy. I wish i could take him again!
Awesome Professor. Physics course is tough, but he teaches so that you could understand it. If you intend not to read the book and also not study, you are not going to pass the class. This is one of those classes that you must put in couple of hours outside of class per week. The most caring prof in Cypress. Highly recommended.
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I HAVE EVER HAD. He truly cares about his students and will go the extra mile to help students understand. He wants HIS students to succeed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Take Professor Frey. His class was pretty easy. Got an A. His quizzes are open note. So take good notes during lecture! Exams are open book. Helpful if you highlight what you go over in the book so that it is easy to find during exam. Go to observatory for extra credit! It was the only EC offered. Only took attendance a couple of times.
He's a really great teacher who is passionate about what he teaches. He's always asking if everyone understands. He's very helpful and he's nice if you ask him questions one on one. I recomend him for anyone who is looking to take a fun and interesting elective.
EASY....but a word of advice:do ALL his stupid projects!!!!!! they are stupid as hell, but as long as you DO them you get points, no matter how SHITTY (trust me on this) it is. They are all worth over 100 points...NO JOKE DO IT!!!!!!!!!!
Easy Class. He likes to refer to himself in third person, but other than that it was a very interesting class. Tests were open note open book!
easy class easy teacher.tests are hard though
The class was intersting-excellent grader. If I needed help clarifying topics, he would help me understand.
Had this guy for Astronomy 116 and I absolutely loathed it. Don't get me wrong, his class is REALLY easy: take notes, buy the book, show up for the tests and you will pass. But all of his lectures turn into hippie anti war rants or some spiritual universal garbage. He's also really unorganized and makes up assignments and never collects them.
I failed at exams because they were too hard but they are open notes and open book. but i did all the 2 projects, all the homework and classwork and managed to get a B...teacher tells you what on the test so i guess that's a bonus. lectures every single class!
fun and very cool class, he wants you to make sure you understand the material and make sure you go to class because the notes you take are the ones you get to use on the test and you also get to use the book. he drops your worst test, plus some extra credit, a project, and the homework. make sure you go to class and take notes
Nice teacher.Allow you to have open books and open notes on exams and final exam. Went to his class first time and he let us out early.
This class was fairly easy if you do the work. The exams are open book and open notes. There is one research paper and one project. On the research paper, he tells you that it has to be a minimum of 7 pages, but in reality, he wants you to do a FULL 7 pages or you will get points knocked off! LOTS of extra credit opportunities.
I really enjoy this teacher. He's super easy and really helps the students understand. Tests are open notes and open book, so how can you not pass this class? Attendance is mandatory, though. Plus, you need his notes for the test. So show up! It's super easy.
Awesome Teacher. The best part about this guy is that he CARES ABOUT WHAT HE IS TEACHING. He shows passion and interest in his teaching, which influences you to care. He is an extremely high quality teacher. I wish he taught all my classes. He wants you to understand the material and will not move on till you do. He always says " Is that Clear?"
Great teacher, very helpful, one of the best teachers ive had this year. Will make sure every single person completely understands the material that he is explaining before moving on. Would highly recommend him. Tests are easy. Overall a great learning experience.
If you're not sure which physics 130 teacher to take,I recommend you choose his class. Why?Because I never did well on any exam, but I still pass! 85% or above is an A in his class! Can you believe it?
His class is really easy, as long as you show up and do your reading. He is EXTREMELY lenient, you are able to turn things in late (he doesn't believe in due dates). Take his class! The first half is boring, but the second half is super interesting. And join his club!
Very easy class. Just show up for the class and copy down the notes and you will get an A. Half the test is an essay, but you already know the prompt beforehand so you just prewrite it. Projects were simple! Take him, he's easy trust me!
I got an A. Tough material. He doesn't always explain things simply. Read and reread the book. Go to office hours and he will love you. Bottom line, study hard and you will do well.
Its a pretty easy semester with him. All the tests are open notes/open book, and he doesn't believe in due dates. He genuinely likes to teach.
Greatest Astronomy Teacher EVER! As long as you show up and do the labs you will pass this class. Plus he gives you extra credit opportunities. He is very straight forward and will make sure everyone understands before moving on. You will not regret taking any of his classes.
This professor has his heart and sould in what he does. He is an excellent professor. You can learn alot about physica and life..Hes very smart. Genuinely a good person that goes beyond to help his students succeed. Hard work but you learn alot.
Mr. Frey is the best!!! Astronomy was not of my interest until I took his class, he gives out 3 exams, one creative project, a summary, a movie review, an it's pretty much just for extra credit, he is pretty chill, and he just wants you to suceed, and he is sooo hot! I love him!
Pretty laid back teacher, very helpful always ready to answer questions. Do the study guides (very easy) and the tests are open book as well. 1 easy project and go to the Griffith Park Observatory for extra credit.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, always inviting students to ask for additional help. Three exams, 85% is an A and he drops the lowest score. If you pay attention during lecture you will pass! Open book and open note. Will definitely be taking his physics class in the future.
Best teacher at cypress. Allows notes and books to be used on tests, 85% is an A. Keeps your interest.
Fantastic teacher! His random comments about life make the class lighthearted when it starts to get a bit intense. He should be a motivational speaker. Must do the reading and study guides! Read the chapters and flag major topics. If you make intelligent comments he gives you extra points. Extra credit opportunities. Highly recommeded!
He is the Perfect Professor! You litterally have to try to fail this class. He makes astronomy so fun and interesting. By listening to his lectures you can tell he is very passionate about astronomny and helping his students. 85% is an A. Honors astro just has one extra project that regular 116 astro doesnt. Highly Recomended!
He did a pretty good job for his first time teaching the class. However, went off topic somewhat often. He is a super nice guy, which was relaxing and he is pretty laid back and not too big on things like due dates. The exams were mostly blue questions that were not assigned as homework, so you need to do extra problems.
very helpful. gives extra credit. easy assignments.
Mr. Frey its a great professor he loves to help his students out and cares about his students. Mr. Frey drops on test lowest and open book, open notes, and open homework, but there is a catch most of his test are a bit challenging, so make sure to take good notes. He is very passionate about his field and would take him again.
Professor Frey is such a wonderful person. He loves his students and his subject and he always seems to be in a good mood. His class is great. It's an interesting subject and he makes it relatively easy. Just take GOOD notes. Be detailed and draw everything he draws. The tests are not easy, but if you take good notes you refer to them.
He is super helpful and willing to help any students who don't understand the concepts he throws at you; which leads to the bad side of asking him questions. The only real problem about his teaching style is that he complicates things. It was not an easy class but no one really actually fails if you give it at lease 50% of your effort.
He's quite forgiving when it comes to due dates. Bonus points for that. The class itself was enjoyable. You can tell he likes teaching Astronomy which is great, because it gets the students more into the subject. Something that can't be said for other professors. Just pay attention and do most of the work and you'll be okay.
Favorite professor (I'm picky). He's not just great at teaching, he's great at communicating with students. I was very shy, he made me get over that. He inspired me (never spoke face to face),he gives so many great advice. Corny but true. Definitely taking him again. Don't miss out on taking him! Super easy, and helpful, always in a good mood! :-)
I was nervous about taking honors class for the first time, read the reviews on him and I decided to take him. before class started i debated on dropping it or not.. but withing 5 mins of him talking i thought GREAT TEACHER. Made the class not too easy but not too hard. easy to get an A. no excuses. He's so clear... and is willing to help.
Great professor. I've taken two classes with him so far, and his passion for his work is tremendous. Best professor as of yet!
Frey was awesome. He knew how interested I was in astronomy and helped me understand it even better by the end. His lectures don't necessarily tie right in with the book, but it doesn't matter because he explains it super well. You must study!! Not a lot of homework, but exams carry a lot of weight. Great guy, very passionate about physics!
Great guy, but his lectures aren't that useful. If you go to his office hours, he really does a good job of answering any questions you might have on homework, but he is a little vague in answering questions in class. Exams aren't that bad, but his final was a little challenging.
He does not do a good job teaching the course material. He tends to go off tangents and is very vague when answering questions. He does not invest a lot of time for this class, but rather his astronomy class. Also the week before the final, he went on a trip with his astronomy students rather than helping us review for the materials for the final.
Great professor. Very nice and funny. Projects are easy. Offers extra credit. Just make sure to READ and take notes, they help for the third and final exam a lot.
Takes 30 mins out of 1:40 min class talking about random things. When asked questions he answers in unclear/non-relevant manner. Gave a make-up test to students who failed first test, yet for second test he didn't give that option to the students that did bad on that one. Took out 3rd test b/c he went on camping trip the weekend he shouldve graded.
He's a bit unclear with his lectures, but he's more than happy to clarify during class and his 'lonely' hours. :) His tests are open book except for the finals. He has easy extra credit assignments + the 'big project' is pretty simple in my opinion. He kind of rants on unrelated subjects in class, but it's not too bad to listen to.
This teacher was one of my favorite! He made the subject interesting and the book he chose is actually a good read, if you read it. Tests are open book/notes, but you still need to do the reading. Do all the homework, extra credit opportunities, 2 projects (both VERY easy), and study for the exams and you will get an A. His study guides are 100 points each!
Stay away or get out now! Although you can use notes, study guides, and the book during tests, the questions will leave you flipping through the entire book for answers. The tests are a race against time and a game of chance. Don't play! The study guides are worth points as well as a couple other assignments; those points won't fix a low test grade
Awesome teacher. You would never fall asleep in his class. As long as you listen to his lectures you will do great on his test.
Oh my god do not take this class. The study guides have nothing to do with the tests. Pretty much you are reading the whole textbook while taking the test. I guess its open notes and open textbook but still not very helpful. stay away. take geology.
Im not a bad student, but Im not doing well in his class. His lectures are unclear & usually have very little to do with the exam. He tends to go off on tangents which consume a lot of valuable class time, &the study guides have virtually nothing to do with the exam. He crams alot at the end of the semester bc of all the time he wasted. Just don't.
Very unorganized and teaching methods unclear ):
Extremely unclear and unorganized. Will go off on random subjects for most of a class. Gets through very little of his material (and not very well either), which is why tests are open notes and open book. Not an easy A, but not a tough one either. Terrible teacher, do not recommend.
Great Professor. Enthusiastic and passionate about the subjects he teaches. Funny guy with an interesting sense of humor. Very helpful go to his office hours. I'll be looking forward to his 223 class.
He's not that terrible as many people said. It's just sometimes I asked questions and I rarely get what I want to know. I mostly studied by myself. His exams are okay. If you really study for the exams, easy A. I mean, he lets you have open notes and books, what else do you want? His stories are interesting too.
Frey is dedicated to his students and loves physics. He's actively involved in helping his students. He knows the material, but is humble about it. His class is straightforward, but the lectures are too short for him to cover everything so you have to read the book. He's worked in the 'real world' and often tells stories which helps the monotony.
This professor does not know how to clarify when he is teaching he gets off track very often and his study guides do not match the exams no point in taking this class with this man
He's an amazing educator. This is a man who LOVES Astronomy. The material is so hard, but he explains it very well. Take lots of notes and DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Test are open notes open study guide and He offers extra credit. You have to read the book and take notes on it. The test are 13 lecture, 13 study guide, 13 from textbook.
Sometimes he goes off on a tangent before he starts his lecture, but he's very funny and sweet. He offers a lot of help, reminding you every day what his office hours are. Make sure to study the chapters he tells you to, because he doesn't cover everything in class!
I ended up with an A in both classes and also became an amateur astronomer - that's what he expected! Love to come to class everyday. Beware of group project, lazy group mates can harm your grade. Exam will base on the book AND the lecture. He will not go through all the chapters but tests on all of them. So be prepare to READ and take huge notes!
This professor has been an inspiration to me. He is very dedicated to his job and cares for his students. He assigns quizzes every week or every other week. He answers questions, even "stupid" ones. He is also very handsome and his stories are hilarious! Totally recommend!! Make sure to study for the tests!
This professor is truly inspirational!! I signed up for this class because i'm undeclared and I absolutely love this class! This guy is so passionate and so chill. Sometimes he talks about life in general and gives great life tips, great for those who doesn't have a male role model in their life! im planning on taking more astronomy classes!
FAVORITE TEACHER EVER. I wish he offered more classes besides astro and physics. Very helpful and clear on all lectures. TAKE GOOD NOTES! He does not always go over every chapter, so be prepared to read! If you show up and take the notes from the lectures, you will pass. Favorite class so far. :
He is an AMAZING professor. I wish he would teach more astronomy classes because I am very interested in astronomy ever since I took his class. Do the homework, listen to his amazing lectures and take great notes. He is willing to answer ANY question related to his class. This professor deserves more credit in Cypress!
Michael is a great teacher and daddy af
Amazing lectures, multiple extra credit assignments, hilarious, handsome, wants students to do well. 2 projects (easy/fun), a few homework assignments, 3 tests. There are a couple questions on tests he doesn't cover in lecture so you do have to read the book.
UNFORTUNATELY HE WASNT THERE FOR MOST OF THE SEMESTER DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS BUT THE LITTLE TIME WE DID HAVE WIHT HIM WAS GREAT. HIS LECTURES WERE GREAT AND HE MADE IT VERY CLEAR AND HE WAS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT IT. BOOK IS A MUST AND ALTHOUGH HE DOESNT TAKE ATTENDANCE YOU WILL GET LOST IF U MISS A CLASS.
"Michael, this is a good problem" Prepare to be challenged. His physics class can be tough for some but his lectures are great and he genuinely cares about your success. It's a shame he's not teaching it anymore, best physics professor I've ever had.
I took him my first semester of college. He has been one of my favorites. Go to class, take notes, pay attention, and DO THE STAR PROJECT AT HOME, AND JOURNAL DONT SLACK!! Just study the notes for tests and you'll be fine. I got an A in the class with minimal effort. Tests weren't very difficult as long as you knew the material.
Michael is a great lecturer. If you don't understand, ask and he will beat it into you (not literally) in a way that will get you to understand. The homework is straight forward and is from the text. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will miss out on notes that are usable for the exam. Study Guide/Notes/go to class and it was easy.
Such a fun class. Hard nonetheless. Lectures are heavy, get ready to write. Tests are based on both book and lecture, challenging! He's funny; cracks a joke or two. Crazy for coffee. Grades fairly and gives you opportunities for extra credit.
Very nice guy. I didn't do the best on exams but he gives you a chance to make up some points with study guide, hw, and projects. Best of all he seems like he actually cares to know how you're doing which is rare with most professors.
Is a very easy grader, barely did any homework but did all the projects and got a B.
Excellent professor of astronomy on multiple levels. Independent of being brilliant, he has the rare gift of being a truly great teacher and communicator. He truly loves astronomy and it comes through in every lecture. You can use notes on every exam, so if you attend class and study the material it's an easy A. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors I've had so far. Michael is incredibly caring and he is very passionate about what he teaches. I noticed that sometimes he'll go off topic and talk about his personal life, but he ties it into the lecture and I found that interesting. Exams and final are open note and the extra credit is worth a good amount of points.
Easy Easy Easy class and Prof! He makes sure you know the importance of coffee as a student! Take good notes in class so u can study from them. Very intersting class as you learn about our beautiful night sky. Extra credit offered early on. Make a friend in the class because the exams are not easy and the extra credit is best done with a buddy.
Great professor, knows his stuff and really knows how to get you interested. Empathetic towards his students and easy going. 10/10
Makes "rocket science" EASY ... Brilliant but sweet & humble ... His passion for the universe is contagious ... Lectures, homework, extra credit are really FUN ... Take ANY class w/ Prof. Frey AKA "simply michael" and whatever your weakness is will become your SUPER POWER ... Prof. Frey is a SUPER NOVA
Amazing professor. Obviously passionate and knowledgeable on the subject of astronomy. Open note tests, lectures everyday, and 2 major projects. He cares about his students and will help in any way he can.
i dont think i have ever met a professor or even another person as smart and as sweet as this guy. He wants you to succeed in life more then YOU want to succeed. open note exams !!! he is super chill and just like you wants summer break or winter break to get there already, he is super funny and super smart. he will change you way of thinking
Coming from someone who dreads any kind of math or science, Frey is the best! His material can be difficult but he gives you every opportunity to succeed as long as you try. He is the only science teacher I would recommend taking! His grading criteria is more than fair and he just cares that you show up to every class and put in effort.
Material is fairly easy to comprehend for what you need for tests, just make sure to read and go to lecture. Not hard to get a B, lectures are interesting. A few projects that are a bit of a pain.. and homeworks, but nothing outrageous.
Professor Frey is really awesome! Even though the class is honors, don't let it scare you. Come to class and take notes, and the quizzes are open-note. The final is open-book and open-note. The projects are a little tough, but ask him questions if you are stuck. However, the projects are straightforward. Do the extra credit because it is fun!
Profesor Frey is an amazing teacher who loves his job and it rubs off on you . He makes the class fun and always exciting. The reading is essential to get an A but you could still get away with a B with little work. Professor Frey has been my favorite teacher thus far and I wish he could teach more classes. Go to class with an open mind.
Professor Frey is an amazing teacher and wants to help you grow as a student. If you want to receive an A in the class you must show up to all the classes and read the book. I promise if you go to class with an open mind you won't regret taking his class
Michael is an amazing professor. His class was by far my favorite. He's so inspirational and really wants you to succeed. His exams are all multiple choice and really easy as long as you study. His exams are also open note, but I recommend you prepare for them. Take his class, you won't regret it!!
I did not want to take this class but I needed it to transfer, he made it so interesting. Homework is not horrible and the tests were not as hard as I thought. I would totally recommend him to anyone I know. One of the best teachers I've had.
This guy is a great professor. He really wants everyone to get an A and he gives multiple extra credits and he even drops a test score for people who are struggling in his classes. Very respected, smart, helpful, and caring. His classes get filled up fast for a reason, so make sure you register for his class as soon as possible.
I've never had much of an impression from other professors to go on here and rate someone but this professor is so great I just had to do it. I just had a 2 minute encounter at his office so I can turn something in and he was just so nice and caring. You can also tell how passionate he is about his job, its wonderful. Did ya get that?
I absolutely lovedddd having Prof Frey hes hilarious he makes lectures fly by hes so sweet he offers a lot of extra credit opportunities hes caring he gives you plenty of time for HW and hes quite charming! Highly recommend!
Prof Frey wants you to succeed. All you have to do is take good notes and have a good study guide for the tests (allows you to use them during the tests). All hw can be looked up on quizlet. Don't take any other astro prof except for this one. His generosity with you bringing in notes and the study guide for tests will have you pass no matter what
One of the best professors I have ever had. I am taking his class again for Astro Lab. You need the book for sure and you must study and you can't skip class but I always looked forward to going because he made it interesting and he's a very good teacher and has a lot of stories to tell. His grade scale is amazing very easy pass.
The professor is a great guy, he's extremely friendly. However he is very forgetful. He'll repeat himself every. single. day. It seems like class is exactly the same, everyday. He sometimes doesn't show up, and rescheduled assignments many times. There were a few days where we were on the same slide the entire day. I had to drop halfway through.
Funny & hard material but easy going professor.
Michael Frey is the best professor I ever had. He reminds us that he is there for us as a friend and not a teacher. His stories are funny, he's chill but he lets us know what's going on. I would so take his class again just because it was fun.
Michael is the reason I'm majoring in Astronomy. His lectures are very interesting and you can tell he is passionate about his job. As long as you have good notes and a completed study guide you will get an easy A. Would definitely take his class again!
Amazing professor. The info can seem difficult but he explained it thoroughly & was willing to re-explain things that the class did not understand. His lectures consist of him writing/drawing the concepts in class. 2 (simple) projects over the semester, but it was fun as I learned the constellations. He understands the struggle/workload of students
Favorite class I have taken at Cypress College. He is a passionate guy and kinda hot.
The best prof on campus. Is there to help all the time with a lot of office hours. If youre having issues talk to him he will help. Every exam gets a study guide you can put as much info as you want down and can use them for the final. A lot of extra credit. If you show up and take notes you will pass. I missed about 5-6 classes.
This class was great. I had a lot of issues with my health witch I missed classes for but as long as your putting in effort he will help. 2 test in the class. You have to work with groups every meeting. I suggest you take ast116 with this class at the same time it helps. Notes and book can be used in test. Ask him anything and he will help.
Michael Frey is a spectacular professor! He cares very deeply about his students education, but you have to be proactive, visit him during office hours if you dont understand a topic. He gives out study guides that heavily reflect the content on the exams. Exams are open note and open study guide, there is honestly no way to fail this class!!
The professor is a great guy, he's extremely friendly. However he is very forgetful. He'll repeat himself every. single. day. It seems like class is exactly the same, everyday. He sometimes doesn't show up, and rescheduled assignments many times. This is an easy A class but it is extremely boring. NEVER skip class cuz somedays we have movies as hw
10/10 best professor. Exams are moderate. HW is easy and attendance is mandatory. He goes over a lot so don't miss.. If you have a high math level a lot of things are better in perspective.
I never would have thought Astronomy would be so interesting, but he made it intriguing for me. His lecture are information heavy, but he always makes sure that his students know what is expected of them to be known for exams. You still have to put in the effort to be successful, but he provides the sources to do well in his class! Loved him
He's a nice guy but is never EVER clear about your grade in the class. He basically lectures and constantly gets off topic. I wouldn't recommend the class but it is easy. He, however, is not organized and is pretty vague on instructions for projects. Frey tried his best to make astronomy interesting but has honestly made me dislike it.
I can't say I'm not disappointed, even though I didn't get the grade I was working towards. However, P. Frey ("fry" not GOT frey) is an awesome teach bc he's very passionate about the subject. Attend class, take good notes (read), and ASK QUESTIONS (in or out of class). Don't get over confident/drop the ball or your grade dip. Id love to take again
Attendance is required for note, if you don't understand the lecture he patiently goes over it again so eveyone understands. For homework its easy so long as you read the assigned chapters and he is avaible outside of class if you need any help or questions.
Professor Frey is extremely personable and kind but very disorganized. Explaining things over and over again, using exactly the same words, is not an effective teaching style. We covered 4 chapters in 12 weeks, now he is rushing to finish another 4 in the last three weeks. It's not a physics or calculus course yet he teaches it as if it is.
Even if you are not interested in astronomy I highly recommend taking professor Frey. he is just so inspirational and understanding. His lectures are long and will leave you with a headache; however, pay attention to them!! Everything he talks about are on the exams. I've never met a teacher more passionate about a subject, he is so kind & funny
Frey is cool and chill. However, Astronomy was extremely boring. He talks and talks and talks. Class was rarely let out early. During the last few weeks he pushed so many chapters upon us. He also made us stay like 5-10 minutes after class because he couldnt finish the lecture during class time because he gets off topic so much. Overall, good prof
Professor Frey is an outstanding professor because he truly cares, and loves to teach. He is very clear on assignments. His class is very well structure ,and engaging. Hands down the best professor I have had.
Professor Frey is amazing! You can tell he enjoys what he does. Although, if you dont show up you will not pass. All his lectures are written on the board no PowerPoint. He gives a good amount of extra credit and is easy to talk to. I highly recommend his class!! :)
His class is pretty straight forward and he does take time to make sure his students understand what he is lecturing. His quizzes are based on the notes COME TO CLASS. His honors class is better than regular bc its smaller class size so you understand it better
I loved Professor Frey. Not only is he an amazing professor, but an amazing person. He helps you inside and outside of the class, it doesnt have to be just about astronomy. He is so so wise. His class is challenging if you dont try, but when you do its so rewarding. If youre looking for a sign to take his class this is it: DO IT.
coming from someone who's horrible at science and has minimal interest in the subject- really great professor. normally i zone out in science classes because i get so confused but his lectures are very clear and he's always happy to answer questions. study guides are extremely helpful. definitely need to read the book if you want a good grade.
Prime example of the perfect professor. Funny/interesting lectures. HW every few weeks on TB (other than that, no other TB use). Open note and study guide tests. Fun projects. Extra credit! Understand college student struggles, willing to work with you. Easy to get an A if you just follow the guidelines, hard to mess up
I don't like science at all, but I definitely don't regret taking Prof. Frey's class. He's super helpful, has open note exams, and offers extra credit opportunities. He does give quizzes from the notes and attendance is super important especially for his lectures containing so much material.
Professor Frey is such an amazing teacher! He is passionate about his work and genuinely cares about all his students. Don't take this class if your looking for an easy A or don't care about the subject. He makes you work for that A and he's great at giving feedback. He's very inspirational and gives good lessons both about life and astronomy. :)
Professor Frey is literally the sweetest man alive. There are three projects, which are pretty easy, five exams, and a couple quizzes. He gives you lots of time to read the material before the next exam and supplements the textbook readings with lecture videos. He is super accessible after class and uses his Zoom class time for questions. Take him!
Professor Frey is one of the best Professor! He really want you to pass and succeed. He always wants to help you. ASK HIM QUESTIONS. He was trying to figure the best way to teach during this pandemic and lectures were available on canvas but go to the zooms. He such a sweet person and really cares about his student and gives great advice. Take it!
This is his lab class. It very straight forward. Watch the lecture for the lab each week. Go to the zooms to get help and review. He wants to help and is super funny and nice. Do the work, study, get help and youll be fine!
MR FREY!! Great Professor in my honest opinion! He has a zoom lecture that I would recommend that you attend to get an advantage. He records his lectures and they are easy to understand. Honestly if you're scared to take this class don't be, its great class
I would have put my grade but he doesn't tell you grades and just gives you a spreadsheet but it doesn't say what anything is out of. His grading criteria is not very clear on projects. His tests aren't bad but he makes you zoom during it so you can ask questions but his answers almost always made me go from the right answer to the wrong one.
Professor Frey is amazing! He is so sweet, funny & caring. He is a very passionate person & is so hands on. He constantly says "how can I help you?" Or let me help you. He cares so much about his students. He is a really great guy & will go over everything 100 times if you want . The only bad thing is the class is hard & he moves quick.
He is very smart, interesting, and kind, but if you are not a math person his class is not for you. He is more than a little disorganized, gets distracted. I wish I hadn't taken his class its so easy to get lost, its not about planets and moons, its more physics so really keep it in mind that you may need to self teach a lot of the material.
Prof. Frey is my favorite teacher. He makes the class fun even though the material is not easy and there is lots of it. He makes him self available and if you turn in the homework and take the exams you will pass the class . He is very knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy, teaching and helping students understand and pass the class.
Frey is a really caring guy! He genuinely wants you to succeed in his class. Zoom meetings are optional and the purpose of them is for you to ask any questions and get help on any topic. His grading criteria and rubric can sometimes be unclear and all over the place thought. He uploads video lectures on Canvas for you towatch them whenever you can
Great Professor! There's a combination of physics and astronomy so it can be a bit challenging if you are not paying attention. But, he's very very helpful and wants his student to succeed so I think you pay attention, go to his zoom meetings, and watch the video you'll be fine. And the paper and art project that he assigns is what help a lot.
Prof. Frey genuinely cares about his students' success. A major thing he shows this is by assigning projects that are worth big points to boost up your grade in his class. Not only does he teach astronomy, but he also gives valuable life lessons to his students. It is overall worth taking a tough class and if you do take him, you won't regret it.
Mike made AST116 is a great and easy introduction into astronomy!!
He is amazing. He gives all the resources you need to pass. I took him for both my lab and lecture. He wants you to pass so always ask questions and read. Make sure you study before test day because you cant just wing it, trust me. But overall, we was great and I highly recommend you take him if you just need a lecture and lab class.
I respect prof Frey a lot! Everything was so inspirational to me, he amazed my mind about this universe and life. He surely spend time and kindly explain everything for you whenever you ask! Attend class, focus on his lecture (your understanding is important, 2 exams open note), do your lab report, hand in in time (late is accepted), u'll be fine.
Astronomy is a complex subject, but Professor Frey is the best instructor I could ever ask for. He is extremely friendly and wants to see everyone succeed in his class. Do the study guides and watch the lecture videos to get an A+. I will take his lab next semester since he's such a great professor. Highly recommend taking any of his classes!!!
Professor Frey is the GOAT for Astronomy. His summer astronomy laboratory class was the most challenging yet most rewarding class I've ever taken at Cypress: two midterms and several lab reports. Don't overthink it, and always ASK QUESTIONS! Professor Frey is amazing; I've learned a lot from him inside and outside the classroom. Thank you, Michael!
Amazing professor, you will not regret having him for astronomy. Such a great speaker and communicates well. While the lectures can feel long, they are very interesting and inspirational. The only homework is literally the study guides along with like 2 projects for the whole semester which are super easy. study for the tests, there all open note!
Professor Frey isn't all that. I was kind of disappointed after taking his class, I didn't feel like I learned much, more like I was just being babysitted and given busy work which wasn't even thoroughly graded for. I put effort into my assignments and some I didn't which further proved it's just an easy A type of class. Didn't learn much.
Professor Frey makes astronomy engaging, even for non-science majors. His class is challenging but rewarding - stay on top of the work, use the textbook, and try Unstuck study for study help. Worth taking if you're interested in the subject.
He's nice but his note taking style lacks structure and he moves from topic to topic that most of the time I have no idea what I am writing down.
Michael Frey is a great professor, though I wouldn't recommend him. His style of teaching is very old school, uses a small whiteboard, putting all his work on it making it very hard to see his work. Though, he does encourage everyone to ask questions. His exams aren't that difficult, there isn't much work to this class, just lectures.
Professor Frey was super super nice to the students and often encouraged students to ask questions multiple times if they were confused and would repeat himself every time. Homework is really easy just needed to make a study guide and you were allowed to use said study guide on tests
A lot of writing for labs! Exams aren't hard if you take good notes from your labs! However, the way he lectures is really confusing. He does urge us to ask questions but a lot of the time I was left more confused. I know he cares a lot, but the way he explains things tend to confuse you and sometimes switches his answers on certain labs
This was one of the best classes I have taken on campus. This professor has made it fun throughout every lecture and has cared for each an everyone who takes his class. His office has a coffee machine that he welcomes students to come visit him. He is a down to earth professor!
