good teacher; grades fairly easy, but likes to interject current politics into any lecture
Terrible. Not a teacher. Would not recommend.
Great sense of humor, enjoyable class.
Dr. Gagon is a wonderful teacher who has a lot to offer. He is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend him for anyone who is ambitious to learn and determined to do their work. He teaches to be responsible! His lectures are really interesting especially when he compares the past with present. WOnderful teacher!
I am a history major and have loved history since elementary. But when I had Dr. Gagnon as my professor my interest in history dropped a ton. He makes class boring and is always talking about politics. He thinks he is funny but he really isnt. You can tell he loveshistory but he makes the class so damn boring. I would not recommend him to anyone.
good teacher he wants u to do well i really enjoyed him u have ids and quizzes thoughout the semester. 2 tests and one major book report. the book report wasnt really fun to do, but overall dr gagnon is great
Pretty hard class if you dont keep up with all the ID's and online quizes. Test are pretty hard but study for them and they are a little easier. Have to do a historical review on a book. So pick a book you like or its gonna suck
I recommend Dr. Gagnon as a History professor. He is an interesting storyteller, which helps because it is a History class. The book review isn't very fun, but if you follow all of the directions, you'll get a good grade. The only thing that I do not like is that he expresses his political views too much. Other than that, great teacher.
Boring! Tests were hard. Talks way too much. I wish he would have went by a powerpoint or the book more. Would not take him again.
He took over my history class after midterm. He took over the class and taught it his way.. we already went through a lot and were behind and had no clue what was going on. Dr. G make life 10x's harder on us, while other classes didn't have to go through the same obstacle.
He talks a lot and not all of it relates to History. He gives you the opportunity to retake quizzes, but not tests. There is a also a book-review. Follow his guidelines and you will do fine. The tests can be difficult to understand, read his web ct notes just in case. I will NOT take his 1102 class.
This class really isn't that hard and Dr.Gagnon is a nice guy. He gives alot of reading assignments, which doesn't have to be read in great detail but he gives a lot of online quizes, which can really help boost your grade
Dr. Gagnon was an interesting professor. He was a good lecturor, but some of the assignments were a little dull. He did say some things that where slightly out of hand because of his fecetious attitude on some of the topics. Other than that it was a good class. Somewhat difficult tests.
Gagnon is an alright teacher. He loves history so be prepared to have you ears talked off. You have to keep up with daily reading or else your participation goes down and drops your grade. Lots of reading, 5 page paper and teaching class yourself. Be prepared.
Must attend the class, alot of classwork and homework, and you need to keep up with the readings. He is very passionate about history so be prepared to be lectured but he is an all around good professor if you pay attention. & make sure you do the paper!
I took this class as a mini semester and there was a test every week so you HAVE to stay current on the readings.
Only two tests, which were both pretty difficult unless you studied a lot. Online quizzes weren't too bad and you can retake them as many times as you please. The term paper was pretty easy if you do a rough copy and turn it in. If you want an A, read everything he tells you to. Great guy, great class, a lot of reading.
He's not the best professor, but he also isn't the worst. It's obvious that he has a strong passion for history, so be prepared to listen to his long lectures. He assigns one major book project and counts as a huge percentage in your class grade. All his quizzes are online an extremely easy, especially because you can retake over and over.
Dr. Gagnon is a terrific professor. He is also very funny. His class was not too hard. I will definitely pick him again for history 2112. Keep up the good work Dr. Gagnon.
Nice guy. He is clearly an expert and loves history. Can give long lectures without notes. Exams were pretty difficult, doesn't grade essays for grammar too much, but expects perfection for a perfect grade. Wouldn't take a mini-semester again, too much crammed into too little time, but a full length semester may be easy enough to handle.
Interesting guy. Overall a good teacher for history, he keeps you interested to learn the topics.
Interesting lectures, and group activities. However, there is a lot of reading each week, which makes it hard to keep up with other class work. Would be a hard class to take in the summer due to all the reading. Besides that he is a very nice, helpful professor.
Professor Gagnon made me cry the first day I was in class. I ended up dropping the class. He may be a good teacher for some, but for me he wasnt. He gives a TON of reading to do, and if you don't do it, well, your screwed. He goes very fast in his lectures as well.
Overwhelming amount of readings each week. In my opinion, a college freshman history class should not be as time consuming and as difficult to keep up with as Dr. Gagnon's class. I would never take him again. But if you like to be really busy and have several assignments going on at once then he might be a good pick.
Dr. Gagnon is a nice guy and his lectures are interesting. He does however offer a lot of work. I took his class and all I had time to do was the work he assigned, if you take his class you will be extremely busy.
Dr. Gagnon is a very good teacher. He is not easy, but if you do your work you will get the grade you deserve. You will have to attend class and read the assignments. I would take him again for this class and plan on taking him in an upper division course.
Overwhelming amount of work to keep up with. Especially difficult to keep up with if you are employed full time as well. Feels like being in high school again with the amount of weekly reading and assignments due. Tests are very difficult as well and cover a wide range of material making it harder to study for.
:( Why did I take this class! My GPA is now horrible due to Gagnon's standards. He rants on about his own beliefs and wants you to accept them please please do not take him!!!!
Please do not take Dr. Gagnon if you can help it. His class was a waste of money and his paper was hard. I am not even a history major and he acts like everyone is a history major in his class. His pop quizzes are impossible to pass, so you will always lose credit even if you did the reading. I dont know what others were saying, he is not easy.
Unless you love history or are a history major, don't take him. He's ridiculously hard just to take him for a core class. I studied for a week for his midterm, still got a 69..his quizzes are hard also. His paper, is just pointless.
Dr. Gagnon is a terrible teacher. Expect to read the FULL textbook, and not get any help on what he expects for the test. You will not pass! DON'T TAKE HIM!
Dr. Gagnon knows his stuff. This is NOT an easy class and he tells you that day one. But he does care about the students success and if he sees you working hard he will work with you. Daily quizzes, alot of reading, and mostly lecture. But he is upfront with you and straightforward. Not an impossible class to pass if you go to class and participate
There was a lot of reading but it is College so deal with it. He does work with you if he see you are trying and if you follow his instruction its fairly easy to pass his class.
Dr. Gagnon has high expectations of his students, but he helps you meet those expectation, if he sees you are trying. There is a lot of reading and work, but he is a good teacher. The key to passing his class are the audio recorded lectures he places on black board. Listen to these prior to class and take notes and you will pass.
He was a very good professor! I thought the class was very easy to earn an A in if you put forth the effort. His lectures and quizzes correlate directly to what he puts on the tests. I took the class over a short summer semester and it really wasn't a lot of work. There was homework every night, but it helped you understand the material and study!
Loved his class! You must put forth the effort in order to do well. He does have high expectations, but he helps you meet them. All of his lectures and study material correlate to his tests. He will help you where needed to make sure that you truly understand the material. There is more interaction in the class so it’s not just lectures.
Very good professor, keeps class intrested. very helpful and will go out of his way to help students. all his quizzes are from the textbook so do the readings.
Dr. Gagnon is an expert in his field and he will often remind you of that. He really knows his his stuff. The reading is a must and is discussed the next class. Overall he was a good professor, but I probably won't take him again. His paper guidelines are hard to understand, but its not impossible. His exam and midterm require a LOT of studying.
Not a class for hands on learning all he does is put a screen on the board and talk all class long, easy for you to doze off in lala land. Don't really have to attend class every thing is online. When you need help or ask a question he is even more confusing! Nice teacher but not fun.Needs better teaching skills for sure.
Very confusing, I can tell you, you wont learn anything from his lectures. Your better off reading the book and showing up for the 2 exams he gives all semester long. DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Very boring class. You really don't need to attend class once if you can keep up with the reading (the only way you will learn anything from this class) and not rely on attendance to affect your grade. Very critical about the Christian. Loves to tear it apart. Loves to brag and show off what he knows even if it does not pertain to the course.
Horrible professor! He really doesn't believe in giving A's to the majority of my class ended up with 88's and 89's. It's a lot of work!!!! His teaching style is a little confusing and he gives the worst lectures. Try not to take this class if possible! I should of listened
Wouldn't recommend this professor. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder. He'll never tell a student that they're correct. He always has to add something to the student's answer. It's impossible to get an A on his papers. 100% attendance is impossible even if you're there everyday based on his participation standards. His quizzes are poorly made.
I actually learned the material in Gagnon's class. He went the extra miles to help me outside of class when I needed it. He teaches with Ppt and tells details about the topics. He knows his material well. Daily discussions over reading, regular quizzes, exams are multiple choice &essay, study guide too vague. Overall, I am glad I attended his class
Dr.Gagnons class wasn't that hard. I made an A in the class, however you must attend class and participate in class. You have a discussion and ask the class 5 questions from a reading he assigns. You must read the discussion everyday they are asigned, he calls on people randomly to answer students question. 2 test only, and weekly quizzes.
He presented the information in an easy to understand and interesting way. He added real life examples and stories to help relate the History to our lives. If you show up to class, read the book, and do the quizzes you will do fine in his class. Do the assignments in the exact way he tells you to in order to do well. Midterm and Final only.
I’m generally a straight A student, but Gagnon’s class was so impossibly, stupidly complicated that I barely passed it. Gagnon will lecture in a enthusiastic way but 90% of what he actually says will not be on the test. 10% of things he brushed on briefly? Yeah expect 50 questions about it. Its like he wants you to fail. Horrible, stay away!!!
Professor Gagnon! These low rated comments are all wrong! Literally THE KEYSECRET to passing his class is to do his online quizzes and show up for class! HE gives TON of extra credit. There is no reason anyone should fail. He's super funnysarcastic! I'd recommend him! SHOW UP, COMPLETE QUIZZES & you'll be fine! You can sleep & still get credit!
Pro. Gagnon has told us just to look at his lectures online if we had any questions. Not the most useful way to get help. He had extremely long lectures. Taking this class in the morning was definitely a bad choice. He's friendly but he doesn't really take the time to get to know his students. This class was very difficult for me
History has always been my hardest subject. However Dr. Gagnon is a really good professor. If you take notes and listen to what he says, you pass the quizzes and test. The quizzes are unlimited retakes. And he does have extra credit. You do have to read the articles before each discussion. Easy A. Good professor !
The lectures are long (if you have a 3hr class) and feel long. Some teachers have the ability to make it seem like time flies, but not this one. He is glad to give you every fact he knows about history, but that is also his downfall. A lot of what he says is totally unrelated to the testsquizzes.
Dr. Gagnon was amazing! His tests are a bit hard and he covers a lot of information. Show up to class and interact! He is really sarcastic, but its hilarious! Attendance counts!!!!
Took him for summer. He talk a lot about his life experiences which is OK but after a while you get bored. His tests are not the easiest and it is difficult to get an A. He will keep you in his class until the full time is up everyday. Sometimes material on tests aren't fully covered in class.
TERRIBLE CLASS!He likes to spend A LOT of time talking about any and everything he knows about history. Great for him, bad for you. Most of his lectures are unrelated to the material on tests and it's hard to decifer what is. He won't release the class not one second early. Online lectures confusing af. His sense of humor makes the class bearable.
He's very passionate and excellent professor. If you want an easy A don't take him. Won't let you go before time. Lectures are long, but he is funny and interacts with students. Online low stake weekly quizzes( can take as many times as you want). Tests are long and not easy. Gives extra credit. Attendance counts, for sure.
You will have everything you need to get a good grade all it takes is your effort. Lectures are great and lively. You get all the study aids other teachers wont give you and much more.
Lectures from the First minute of class to the last. He's really passionate about teaching but that means most of the stuff he says won't be on the test. He says that if you get a C, thats average, B means you did really good, and A means you blew him away. Avoid him at all cost.
Extremely hard grader on essays, attendance is mandatory or you wont pass, he teaches history like story-time. The work load is very low, but quizzes are difficult.
Dr Gagnon has an intimidating reputation, but he's actually a very supportive professor. This class was a lot of reading (participation!) w/ two take-home essay tests, & a ten page paper. He gave clear instructions for the paper & checked in with us often, to make sure we were on track. He wanted us to do well, but he did expect us to work for it.
Very lecture heavy course essentially making it the most boring . Same thing in class everyday minus a video or two every once in a while . He gives A's on attending and participating . His tests are hard because there are so many factors (maps , matching , open response definitions , long essays , multiple choose). Grades heaviest on essay beware
Lectures like a story. PPTs online. Online quizzes, unlimited attempts. Tests have multiple components & essay questions provided at beginning of semester. Says things in class that are not on PPTs. One writing assignment, super easy. Really interesting course & fun professor. Put in the time & this is not a hard class. Extra credit available!
Dr. Gagnon will make you work for your grades- but if you go to class, pay attention, and above all, participate, you'll do fine. Expect a paper, some online coursework, and proof that you took notes while you were in the class. Again, participation is KEY to get a good grade here.
It's the middle of the semester and I'm already regretting taking this course. The class is not interactive, and I did not take it to listen to the professor's endless opinions. I don't see the connection between what we read and what's expected of us. I should have listened to so many people warning me not to take this class.
Dr. Gagnon was a great professor. Very lecture heavy but lectures like story time. he offers after class help and extra credit. the tests are not that hard but there are multiple components like matching, mapping, etc. has unlimited attempts on quizzes and questions from the quizzes are on the test. he will tell in you in advance whats on the test.
Dr. Gagnon lectures the entirety of every class period. Despite this, he is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of history, and is able to go way in depth. All of the necessary info is available on his D2L page, meaning the test content will never be a surprise. Make sure to review the vocab before tests. Highly recommend this class!
The class is only hard if you dont pay attention/ask questions. There are no study guides, all the quizzes are open-book online, and theres only 2 tests. Theres a project but all you do is ask questions about document- easy 100. Theres 3-5 extra credit opportunities, all super simple. Bad thing: He complains A LOT. So get ready for that.
I like how we have many extra credit opportunities but when you have 2 test that are graded heavy they really don't do anything. If your stuck with him, you don't need the book, print out all notes on d2l, watch his power point lectures online, take the online quizzes as much as possible, and attendance is not mandatory
Lectures are kinda boring and there are only 2 tests. All the quizzes are online and you can take them as many times as you want. The tests use questions directly from quizzes and the essay portion of test is never to difficult if you study. Overall not to difficult just do the quizzes and do well on tests
He says his tests are really hard but they are not if you know your information. He has online quizzez you can retake as many times as you want. Only has a midterm and final tests. He talks a lot and gets very boring but all his lectures are online. All the powerpoint notes are online as well.
There are lots of quizzes you need to take (with a different type of questions), but all of them are unlimited try and have long deadlines so it's okay. He cares about students in general and he is willing to help you with anything even if it's not about his class. You have to listen to his lecture more than looking at the power points.
If you don't want to work hard for your grade, then save yourself the trouble and do not take the class. Professor Gagnon has worked at top institutions such as Georgia Tech and UGA, so he teaches at a very advance level. I would definitely recommend this class to someone who is a history or education major.
Great man, enthusiastic, cares about students and material, tries his best to make it fun and include everyone in history. Makes an effort to teach untold stories in history including women and minorities. Keeps us updated on current events and gives useful advice.
I found this online class to be very intense, although I've taken condensed Summer classes(full semester crammed into 15 days). Dr. Gagnon is a nice guy, very knowledgeable about history and he makes his lectures very interesting. I studied the Powerpoints, took notes, read the textbook and participated regularly and still could't grasp this class.
Dr. Gagnon is a knowledgable guy. Very difficult quizzes and tests though, so prepare for a hard class especially if you aren't history savvy
I'm not a great student, but he's enthusiastic about his lectures. As long as you take notes and read the article he assigns for the class, you should get a good grade. He noticed after our first test about our poor results so, he gave us a total of 18 points of extra credit that must be earned! He always understood when I had something come up.
Very subjective. If history is not like the professor says, then dont take this class. Very reading heavy and exams were mostly free response. Good luck if you have to take it, youll need it.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single one of Dr. Gagnon's lectures. He is a knowledgeable professor that is passionate about the subject. Be prepared to learn real history. All of his lectures were backed by official documents from the time period. History majors should definitely take him(I'm not). Many extra credit opportunities. Strict but caring.
Professor Gagnon is very passionate when it comes to history. He will really go in depth in his lectures and surprise us with other background knowledge. Participation is important. Be prepared to embark on a field trip, lead an activity team, and present a document in front of the class. Three major tests with significant writing portions.
Dont take him if. Most of the questions are free response on the tests and quizzes
If I had to go through all chapters in D2L, go through all definitions, and chapter questions the night before atest, and still feel lost like a deer in headlights on his test the next day, this probably isnt the class for you. Unless youre a history major. Almost all questions in tests and quizzes are free response.
Professor Gagnon truly wants his students to learn. He is kind and passionate! He sets you up for your entire college experience. Tests are challenging, but only if you don't study or focus on lectures.
My favorite teacher so far. Jokes are hilarious if you're a history person. He gives good feedback especially if you want a job interview, scholarship, or advice. He has wrote me good reviews and that got me a job. Classes are average in difficulty. Definitely keep in touch with your teachers cause you might need them to vouch 4u
One of the best professors. His lectures are so organized. You just need to attend the class. Although there is one group work and one presentation work in the whole semester. It was fun. He makes history so easy. You have to take notes. There are field trips for extra credit.
Professor does not give much homework but you are assigned to projects and throughout the semester you present them with your teams , participation is a must for a grade He is always able to meet after class or before class and is willing to help , Great teacher & has a beautiful cat .
- 70% of his tests are written answers, the other 30% is multiple choice - He requires a textbook but it is just for extra material, you don't need it for any classwork - His PowerPoints are just talking points, pay closer attention to what he is talking about - Only one major group project - No final, just a regular test
as long as you attend class, you will be fine. he takes attendance for a grade which is kind of tedious. his lectures are very long and majority of your learning will be done outside of the classroom if you are not a history brainy. he will tell you to purchase a book but this is very unnecessary since everything on his tests is on the powerpoints
very difficult and hard grader. test and quizzes were difficult and when you get some questions correct he will mark you down saying answers must be from his lectures. he messed up my grade for the semester. please dont take him.
I thought this class would be hard because of some of the reviews but it was actually pretty manageable. It is lecture heavy but everything that will be on the test is said in class. Make sure just to write down the questions sent in the emails and you will pass.
The most boring class I have ever had to take. He makes us read way too much and I have only had his class for a month. Never again.
Dr. Gagnon was great; he grades by points, so be aware of that. PAY ATTENTION TO THE DOCUMENTS. There will be written response questions about them on the tests. There are quizzes every week, and you get 4 attempts, and when it's close to test time, you are given more shots. There are two other assignments that are pretty easy points to earn.
2 exams, 1 final and lots of quizzes. The exam is kinda easy, not open notes tough. He's ok, but pay attention to lectures. I don't like how we get participation grades, if you don't speak in class you'll get half participation points for that day. He's ok, he's passionate about history and knows what he's talking about.
Do NOT take this class if you want to protect your sanity. His tests are unnecessarily hard and he gives you way to much extra information. He does give extra credit and multiple quiz attempts to help keep your grade afloat. He means well, but I overall had a stressful experience & think his class is a little bit too much for a basic history class.
Compared to your typical history class, the course was relatively easy. He assigns 10 quizzes and 2 exams, with many extra credit opportunities. Lectures are interesting and focus on early American history. As long as you follow the questions he provides every class period, you will do perfectly fine on the exams.
Dr Gagnon was great he had 10 quizzes and 2 tests. He also had us do an assignment based off a document we had to read and present it. We also had some extra credit opportunities and got to retake our previous quizzes. I would say he class was fairly easy as long as you pay attention in class. He was very nice and easy to communicate with.
