Took his ENES100 class my first semester of college. I think he will end up being my favorite professor. He genuinely cared about my learning and me as a person. ENES100 is one of those classes where you're kind of left on your own to figure it out, but Mike did an awesome job guiding us.
You can tell that Mike really cares about if his students grasp the concepts that are being taught. He was very good at preparing us with problems that were similar to test and homework questions. He was always available for extra help outside of the classroom and overall, a very cool teacher. He makes this class both interesting and fun.
Class was interesting and Mike was relatable which is nice in engineering since this field can be intimidating.
More than anything, Mike really cares about the atmosphere of the class. He made sure we all knew him on a personal level as well as gave us plenty of opportunities to get to know the rest of the students. He cares that each student is doing well, so if you put in any effort, you'll do great in this class!
Mike was an amazing teacher in ENES102. What other comments forget to mention is that he once took the same 102 class when he was still a student at UMD. So he understands what students go through. He'll explain everything in the most simple way possible. Visible effort from you means extra support from him.
He's like a bro. Very likable and his classes are always funny and interesting. He loves to bake and will sometimes bring in desserts for the class. If you have the opportunity to take his classes, jump on it.
Had a great time with Mike. Would love to learn from him in the future.
He really knows the material and is good at explaining it. He also encouraged thinking outside the box and participation in class.
If you have a base understanding of engineering physics, you should have no problem understanding the material. Mike made it easy to clarify any confusion and/or correct any non-material related issues (e.g. grade errors)
Mike is one of the best professors Ive had, and it shows in his lecture style. Hes informative and interesting to listen too, which makes lecture that much better. Hes an amazing teacher for a great class.
Mike put in a lot of effort planning this course so we made the most of our time in Iceland. He was also very personable, so it made the trip fun for everyone. I strongly recommend this course and this professor.
Mike was a great professor. He always made his lectures engaging with his corny dad jokes, candy, and baked goods. He genuinely cares about his students and is willing to work with you.
Mike is an amazing teacher. He finds a way to make the material fun to learn. He really cares, and puts a lot of effort in to making the experience as best as possible. During lecture he is hilarious. The class/trip planned for this course was unforgettable, and I would absolutely go back. I highly recommend taking this class and Mike as a teacher.
3 words to describe Mike is not nearly enough. Mike is everything you could ask for in a teacher. He is attentive, inspiring, and all around a great human being. Mike is a role model to me and I HIGHLY recommend you get to know the guy if given the chance.
What an amazing teacher! Mike's engaging personality made his lectures a joy to participate in. He is so inspiring and easy to relate to. Mike often used personal anecdotes to allow me to further understand the topic being taught. On top of it all, his fun personality and attentive nature made everyday in his class a wonderful experience.
Mike is a very approachable proof and seemed pretty genuine in all our interactions.
Excellent, exciting and engaging professor! Take him for any class and you will have a good time!
Professor Galczynski is an amazing professor. He cares deeply about his students and the subject. He is easy to talk to in and outside of class and has a good sense of humor too. I would definitely recommend taking a class taught by him!
Mike is great. He cares a lot about teaching, gets to know you on a personal level and is glad to help whenever needed. Even when all we wanted was walk around in Greece and experience the new culture,he continuously engages us in and out of lecture so that we are actually able to learn from the class. 10/10 great guy and fantastic travel bud.
Studying abroad with Mike was a great experience. The class had the perfect balance between learning the course material and applying the concepts learned in class on field trips around Iceland. Mike was very knowledgeable about the course material and the country, and his lectures were informative and entertaining.
Mike was an overall amazing professor during my time in his course. He prepared interesting lectures specific to several topics within the study area. Additionally, Mike was always willing to help us with difficulties. He recognized that not all of us had been taught the same material across the board. Mike was able to help us in and out of class.
Mike is such a great lecturer! He always makes class interesting. He genuinely cares about his students and is very helpful outside of class.
Mike is a very friendly guy and puts forth a lot of effort in his lectures and getting to know his students. For the first 1/2 of the semester, ENES100 is a breeze. Very little homework. But, the course can become pretty time consuming in the 2nd half when you begin constructing your OSV. tl;dr: I would highly recommend taking Mike for ENES100.
If you're looking to take ENES 100, definitely take Mike! He's an amazing professor who really cares for his students. He makes the class interesting and is always there to help. The class can definitely be a lot of work, but if you come and do your part you will be successful. Mike was awesome and I would definitely take him again if I could!
Definitely take Mike's class if you can! He really cares about his students and works hard to help them be successful. He also finds ways to encourage teamwork that make the class really fun and engaging. Learned a lot and had a great experience taking his class.
Took him for ENCE489G (Sustainability in Greece). Great guy and great teacher. He really cares about the success of his students and makes sure they are having fun while learning. He is a smart guy, knows his stuff, and knows how to convey that info in a learn-able way. Mike is a friend and a mentor (a frientor). Take his class.
He was very helpful in and out of class. His lectures were interesting and very easy to understand.
One of my largest critiques of most college professors is that they are primarily focused on their research and subject area, and their teaching is an annoying side-task that prevents them from focusing on what they truly care about. This is clearly not the case with Mike; he has both a genuine passion and gift for teaching. Definitely recommend.
Mike is super energetic and is really invested in his students and their success. For a class that can be easily overwhelming, he offers great insight and creates an excellent classroom environment.
I had Mike for two classes, one being ENES100 and the other being ENME407 (study abroad), and in both he was able to show his dedication to the success students achieved in the course. Never did I feel overwhelmed by his expectations and my experiences in both courses were fantastic.
Mike made my study abroad experience more memorable than I could have imagined! He is incredibly engaging during lectures and takes the time to understand the needs of his students. He ensured that each excursion complemented what we learned in lecture. I would definitely take a class with him again.
I was in Mikes ENES100 class which had a lot of groupwork. He would often bring candy or even bake lemon bars for the class. He tells entertaining stories or makes corny physics puns, or even runs around the class wearing a black tarp pretending to be a sith lord. He is always accessible when you need help and gives extra credit/curve for effort.
I took Mike for ENES 100 and 102 and also ENME 407 and had an amazing experience in each one of those classes. His lectures are super engaging and clear and he takes the time to create a relationship with the students.
Awesome professor, good at making concepts clear and always willing to answer questions
Mike is an amazing professor. He cares about the success of his student. He also makes the class very fun and engaging. I would definitely recommend to take his class!!
Mike was a great teacher and I truly learned a lot from his lectures, which were interesting and really caught my attention. I enjoyed being in his class because he was entertaining and not monotone. He seemed like he actually cared about all his students. It was a great experience
Mike's funny, understanding, and really really wants you to succeed. He gives good advice and adds a personal touch to the class that makes you want to succeed as well. 10/10 would recommend.
Mike is the best! he is so funny and personable, definitely the best ENES100 prof. He is accessible outside of class and is always willing to help!
Mike was a great professor who made the daily lectures interesting and always kept us engaged. His humor was one of my favorite parts of the class. He was very ready and willing to help us with any questions or concerns we had with our Rube Goldberg projects. Although the course focused on Civil, Mike gave us a good overview of other branches.
Mike's an awesome teacher and very enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. Highly recommend him as a teacher and hope I can take him again in the future because he makes class a lot of fun!
Studying abroad in Iceland with Mike was a very memorable experience. He taught us so much in such a short amount of time without making me feel like it was crammed or rushed. He is always there to help if you need it and puts a smile on your face with his jokes and bubbly personality.
Professor Mike is amazing. He was a student once at UMD, so he relates so much to his students to help them understand that everyone struggles with course material and work. With Mike's encouragement to be self-engaged, asking questions, & provide feedback, encouraged me to work very hard in this class to Earn a very good passing grade.
Taking ENCE489G with Mike was great! He was able to teach us so much in such little time! His lectures are not boring and he is so knowledgable about lots of subjects. I would highly recommend taking a study abroad class with him or even a class at UMD!
I went abroad with this professor for a spring break term in Athens, Greece. He truly helped the students learn in a non-traditional way but remained giving very thoughtful and practical feedback on our work. I definitely recommend this professor, as he is fun, inspirational, approachable and relatable!
Mike is one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are informative and funny.
He's pretty good, sometimes skips over things in class but he's a lot of fun, and has entertaining lectures. He also really cares about his students
Going to Iceland with Mike has left me with some amazing memories. He made the course fun and respected us as students. The course was fun, interesting, and memorable. I wish I could do it all again.
He has a way of teaching that makes the content seem a lot easier than it initially comes off. He's really funny and HE BRINGS PASTRIES to class every once in a while. Always available to help outside of class, very approachable and understanding. 100% recommend taking his class. (gives extra credit for pretty much every assignment too)
Mike is a great professor and is able to pack a large amount of learning into a small window. He's also a great guy to travel with and this trip will definitely be a life long memory.
MIKE <3 he's by far my favorite professor from my first semester and will be hard to beat. He makes his lectures interesting with funny stories and good examples to help understand the concepts in the course. He's also really good at baking and will bring in treats, which is a good incentive to study. 13/10 would recommend.
Mike is by far the best professor I had. The class itself is somewhat difficult, but Mike makes it very do-able. He's hilarious and easy to relate to, and the lectures are straight forward and engaging. He also gives you all the information and practice materials you need to do well on the exams. There are lots of extra credit opportunities too.
I absolutely loved having Mike as my professor for ENES102H! He truly cares about his students, is really accessible outside of class if you reach out to him, and fills his lectures with funny jokes and inspiring tidbits. Would 10/10 recommend him and hope to have him again as my professor!
Great professor. Mechanics isn't an easy course but the way he teaches it really engages the whole class. I loved his corny jokes and comments and his morning 5 minute spiels. If you have to take ENES102, take it with Mike!!
Mike is an excellent teacher and person! He makes his lectures very fun and interesting while still managing to teach us all the material needed. Mike has been one of my favorite professors and I would definitely take him again!
Lectures are great and engaging. Clearly cares about his students.
Professor Galczynski was a great Professor for ENES102H. He is by far the best teacher for this course. He is hilarious and makes the lectures enjoyable. He even brought our class cookies multiple times. Finally, he is the Professor who you would enjoy seeing outside of class. I even ran into Mike at the UMD golf course. Overall, a great Professor.
Mike was great, very funny, very personable, and very understanding. He even let one guy retake an exam because they screwed up the date. Definitely would recommend. I hated ENES just because it wasn't my cup of tea but mike made it bareable
Mike is a professor who is ready to help at various times and is looking out for students best interests. Office hours really help to better understand the curriculum and the lectures help too. Mike knows how to explain the material in a way that each individual student understands the material. Very encouraging and considerate.
Mike is a really great teacher. He keeps the lecture entertaining so theyre not super dense and you stay engaged and hes really good at answering questions on any doubts on the concepts. Hes also a 10/10 baker and will bring baked good to class! I would definitely recommend taking a class taught by him if you get the chance!
Michael Galczynski is one of the best professors I have ever had. He creates the perfect balance of humor and effective lecture to keep you actively engaged in class while continuing to properly communicate the material. Not only is he well spoken and humorous, but he is a fantastic lecturer. There was not a single lecture I didn't learn from.
Professor Galczynski is a fantastic teacher who makes the class fun and engaging with his lectures. He has a great sense of humor and is able to help with any questions you have about the material. Mike provides many opportunities for extra credit and uses Canvas far more efficiently and reliably than the other professors teaching ENES102.
Mike does a great job making lecture interesting with funny jokes and personal anecdotes. His method of teaching is very direct and he is also very accessible outside of class. Besides being an amazing teacher, he is a very cool person, great baker (bakes for students!), and fun to be around. I wish I could have Mike teach all of my courses!!!
This Professor was very organized and a great lecturer . He makes the information clear and helps students get the right equations. He is fair and gives extra credit for homework assignments. I would take this professor again in a heartbeat.
Mike as the worst professor I have had so far in my college experience. He is rude, indirect, and not a good lecturer. Going to another professors lectures is the only way to pass the class. Absolute worst decision to ever take a class with him. He cannot teach and randomly shared personal stories. I am here for a degree not to hear about your life
Mike finds fun ways to demonstrate simple concepts, and is a very personal teacher. Classes move at a smooth pace, and the practice in class is always relevant to the online homework. The exams he gives are fair, and if you study hard, take decent notes, and do the online homework, you will have a blast in his class.
Mike was the best professor Ive had so far and made me excited to be a part of the UMD engineering school. He was very engaging and always willing to help students improve their knowledge and grades. Very inspiring and a great person overall.
Mike is a great professor. You can tell that he ligitamitley care about his students. His lectures are funny and interesting! He will help however he needs to make sure that you do well in the class (as long as you put the effort in on your end). Also his cookies are delicious.
Lectures are engaging and teaches the content well. However, example problems in class are always much, much easier than what is on the exam, so you have to do difficult problems on your own to further teach yourself. No quizzes, 2.5 hrs of HW a week, and 4 exams of moderate difficulty. Decent curve and extra credit so an A is easily obtainable.
Out of the blue during class, he picked me out of the class and gave a sized 19 basketball shoe that had a couple autographs from umd players. Few others could make such a dull class into one I looked forward to each day.
I honestly think if I had my choice at any prof for 102, I would pick Mike. He was so forgiving, helpful and approachable which is crucial in this class. He understands the pain kids go through, especially their first years. His class was also entertaining, there aren't many profs that can get me excited for a 9am. Put in your own effort though too
Mike was an absolutely amazing professor! He takes an already amazing course and makes it even more enjoyable through his great teaching and funny, caring, approachable, and even inspirational personality. If you are taking this course, make the most out of your experience by learning new skills and an amazing experience will come naturally.
Mike is one of those teachers that really, truly cares about all his students. He taught us not only the course material, but also how to be a better engineer in general. I learned so much from his class, more than any other class I took before him, and despite the challenging nature of the course, he was there to support us every step of the way.
Had mike for enes 102 also, literally the best teacher a student could hope for. His lectures are fun and engaging. Hes an easy grader, but he is also always willing to give teams advice and help so they can succeed and get the most from the class.
Mike was someone you could go to for help and was extremely reliable. If ENES 100 was a low grade, then Mike was the curve that saves your GPA.
Mike is truly a great professor. If you are lucky enough to have him for ENES100 make the most out of this experience. His lectures are fun and engaging which makes the two hour class go by quickly. Mike is also a major help with the hands on portion of this since he is always there for you or your team when you need help.
Mike is a great guy who cares a lot about his students. He brought in candy and baked goods for the class on several occasions, and he generally worked hard to make sure everyone was having a good time in class. The ENES100 classes in general are all fairly disorganized, but Mike made the best of the situation and tried to keep everybody happy.
Mike is one of the best professors Ive had so far at UMD. He answered all emails promptly, told a lot of jokes throughout the class to keep the material interesting and the class engaged, and was very helpful in answering questions if you did not understand any of the course material. Would definitely take again!
ENES 100 is a hard class and I really hated it at certain points, but Mike made it fun. You will learn a lot about yourself and he really does care about you. He also bakes and brings you his treats.
Mike was a really great guy who made class interesting and fun to come too. As a Bioengineering major I was not very interested in mechanics, but Mike made coming to class entertaining and beneficial. His lectures were super helpful and prepared you well for exams. Would definitely recommend him!
Mike is one of the best professors I have had at Maryland. He truly cares about the student's success and is very passionate about teaching the Introduction to Engineering and Design course. He uses enthusiasm and real-world applications to keep students engaged during his lectures.
Everyone take Mike! He makes this class extremely fun and interesting. He bakes delicious goods for the class and does whatever he can to ensure every student has a good experience. He is not a difficult grader, which helps you focus more on having fun and doing the project rather than stressing about the class grade. He is the best professor!!
Mike is an amazing teacher, so sign up for his section if you can! He brings in baked goods and candy which keeps up spirits during the difficult times of building your OSV. His class creates a great atmosphere for developing engineers as groups are forced to problem solve and work together. Mike genuinely wants each of his groups to succeed.
Had Mike for 102 and definitely recommend. He cares about your success and is always looking for ways to improve, which I appreciated. Plus he is just a fun person in general, so going to class or approaching him for extra help is easier. Lectures and class was straightforward and he gives the old exams to practice with, which make the test easy.
Mike motivates you to put in the effort to succeed at the project & to learn, not for the grade. This, along with his humor & enthusiasm, made working on the project with my team & this class much more enjoyable. Mike deeply cares for his students & their education (get ready for unexpected life lessons). Hes approachable if you ever have trouble
ENME407 was a spectacular study abroad experience! Mike is a fantastic instructor and a very genuine guy. He demonstrated his dedication for teaching through his amazing lectures; as well as his passion for traveling through unforgettable field trips. I definitely recommend Mike for any study abroad experience at UMD!
Mike made our study abroad trip one to remember by providing us with incredible in and out of class experiences! Our field trips were just as informational as they were incredibly fun. I took this class as a non-engineering student and Mike really made sure I was able to keep up with everyone else and not fall behind. He is a very caring professor!
I took a study abroad course in which Mike was one of the instructors. He begins to feel like more of a friend than a "professor" in the conventional sense because of the personal connections he forms with everyone. He was a blast to be around, and very knowledgeable and professional when it came to completing course work.
Mike is one of the best professors you can have for ENES100. He is very charismatic and approachable and really puts an emphasis on teamwork and problem-solving when building the OSV, which are both super important in engineering. He really cares about his students and brings in snacks so definitely take his class if you have the chance!
This course is easily the best course I have taken at UMD , and Mike does an excellent job teaching it. Especially with this being a study abroad course, Mike found the perfect balance between teaching the material & making sure everyone felt comfortable in the new environment. This course is loads of fun and I would highly recommend it!
Mike was such an inspiration during the study abroad trip to Iceland this summer. I was having doubts about my major but this class helped me regain the confidence and passion I had for engineering. I would recommend Mike for any class he leads at UMD, and especially his study abroad sessions.
ENME407 is a really fun class/trip that is worth it if you have the $ to go to Iceland. The class consists of lectures over a few days and a lot of field trips. You are always doing something. Anytime there was a break we would rally and go out. It is for sure the most fun way to earn 3 credits and knock out a tech elective. Do it.
Genuinely a great guy and good professor, hope to have him again someday.
Mike was a great professor in our study abroad course. His lectures were energetic and lively. He was always available when we needed assistance on assignments. The best class I've taken so far in college! Amazing opportunity to go abroad and have such fantastic professors that tried to make stress levels as low as possible. Highly recommend.
Had a great semester in ENES100. It's obvious Mike loves teaching and wants everyone to do well. He'll walk around during lab time, asking students about their day and building cool parts for teams' OSVs like a kid with legos. And his wisdom talks will inspire you to finesse your way through life like he has. Give some and you'll get a lot out.
Mike's a great guy, but as a teacher he's just okay. His class is interesting because he gets off topic a bunch and is funny, but didn't convey the material as well as he could have. I didn't feel as prepared for the exams as I could have been.
Your experience in ENES100 depends a lot on the professor you get. Mike made the lectures so fun and interactive that I actually looked forward to going to class. His stories are the best. Highkey one of the coolest profs on campus. Oh yeah he also bakes cookies for the class.
Awesome guy and really cares about his students
Mike is super funny and also very caring about his students! In class, he provides plenty of extra credit opportunities. He also bakes for his classes sometimes! Totally recommend taking a class with him.
Mike overall an amazing professor. In class he is humorous, well-versed, easy to understand and always willing to clarify. If you go to class, go to his office hours and apply yourself in homeworks you'll do great. One of the great things he does in class is use real world examples simple exames and exposes you to exam questions help you understand
Ive been at UMD for 5 semesters and Mike is by far the best professor Ive had. I highly recommend attending his lectures since he explains concepts in an intuitive manner. I believe he takes criticism to his teaching, if any, to heart so his class will only improve in quality as years go by. Plus he bakes cookies for his classes.
Mike is a great professor. Doing well in ENES102 depends a lot on how much you practice, and Mike gives a lot of encouragement for doing so through extra credit and some required assignments. Hes very approachable and wants you to do well, so hell help you and give you advice and information not given in class if you go to him.
Mike keeps his lectures entertaining and to the point. The tests are heavily graded however there are many extra credit opportunities that are practice problems for tests which you should be doing anyway if you'd like to pass the class. Definitely would take again.
Mike is an amazing professor that is very enthusiastic about teaching. He goes out of his way to make the class fun, and would give us a lot of extra time to complete certain assignments, as well as cut down on excessively long ones usually assigned by other ENES100 professors. He gives great life advice, and genuinely cares about his students.
Highly recommend taking Mike for ENES100. He puts a lot of effort into his lectures and ensuring everyone is grasping what is going on. Very approachable outside of class, which you will need to do for ENES100. The project is massive compared to the amount of class time available so expect to put in a lot of time in open lab hours to be successful.
Although this Mechanics course is a little challenging, Mike does a great job making his lectures engaging with younger college students which helps tremendously when comprehending the subject matter. Mike is always available for office hours and review sessions.
Mike is a great professor who cares about all of his students and makes every lecture worth going to with the information provided, his jokes, and his stories. Makes the course material very easy to understand and is always happy to help.
Mike was the best professor! I had him for ENES102 and he made a 9 AM class worth it. He truly cares about his students and he was very kind to me when I was personally struggling. While the class itself can be difficult, Mike explains the topics simply and eloquently. He made his classroom a safe place and ENES102 something to look forward to.
Professor Galczynski made statistic topics more interesting by using jokes and relating problems to real-life situations. He was readily available to answer any questions I had. Plenty of exam prep was provided in order to obtain a high grade. He bakes, and motivated students to do better on exams by rewarding a high average grade with baked treats
Genuinely one of the most fun classes you'll have at this school. Mike's enthusiastic as heck and has a great attitude. Almost all of your grade in this class is participation and he puts a lot of weight behind the peer reviews at the end of the group project, so if you skip class or don't participate you're gonna feel it in your final grade.
You get +5 points if you are a Philly fan.
This was my hardest class but Mike is THE BEST professor. He cares a lot about your grades and is always willing to help. Plus he is a really good baker and easy to talk to about anything.
Mike is seriously an amazing professor. His lectures are always highly entertaining and he genuinely care about his students. ENES100 is really abut the how your team works as a group and the effort that everyone puts in, and Mike will do absolutely everything he can to try and help. Probably one of the best classes I have ever taken
Overall he's alright. Doesn't practice enough difficult problems during lecture that are on the test. Always trying to entertain distracts from course concepts.
Mike was fantastic. He made a 9am class enjoyable and he baked cookies when we did well on exams. He's always available in JMP for help out of class and clearly cares about his students. I wish he gave more tough examples in class and stayed focused on material rather than joking all the time. Also, 4 exams are 80% of the grade which can be tough.
Mike is the most inspiring professor I've ever had the honor of taking a class with. My friends recommended that I take him for ENES 100, and his infectious enthusiasm drove us all to work hard and excel. His grading is clear, fair, and surprisingly lenient, and you WILL have an amazing time in class.
Great guy. Cares a lot about the students and gives interesting lectures.
Mike is the best professor you will have in college. He is so caring and has a way of making anything interesting and fun. He truly wants you to learn and will do anything to help you. This class was amazing and I really recommend the class and Mike!
Mike is a great guy who cares about you as a student. If you ask him for help he will help you with anything. This class structured around the country. You will learn about the country and its renewable resources while experiencing all aspects of its culture.
Mike is a very entertaining lecturer and fun to be around. He is always available and cares about the success of his students. Grading and course load are both positives. I also had him for ENES102, he does worked examples in lecture so I recommend attending.
Hola chicos! Mike is a super down to earth dude and will always be there for you. He always has positive attitude and makes every aspect of studying abroad fun and engaging. All of the activities and excursions are well planned with the academics portion so you really get to experience the country! I HIGHLY recommend this class and Mike!
Mike is one of the best professors I have had since being at UMD. His lectures are engaging and he always goes out of his way to make information easier to understand (like relating height in terms of football field lengths). Definitely take him if you get the chance, you won't regret it!
Mike is a genuinely awesome teacher. He took the time to help whenever i asked questions or sent emails, he makes lectures a treat to attend, and he offers endless extra credit.
I definitely recommend taking Mike for ENES100. He makes lectures super fun and engaging and is really good at teaching new material to students. He makes an honest effort to ensure you get to know your group before starting the OSV project so you already have close bonds within your team. This was such a fun class thanks to Mike!!
Great guy who actually cares about his student. He made the class enjoyable so I did not mind sitting in a lab for 2 hours straight because it went by so fast. I would definitely recommend him for any class he teaches.
Hes an outstanding professor, he cares a lot about students and will do everything in his power to make the class fun and exciting. I highly recommend taking Mike for your classes. He will also make you baked goods
Mike's a gem. Had him on/offline during corona & he whipped up the new course in a week (mostly singlehandedly). Turned out loads better than the OSV. Lectures are more like TED talks, doesn't give busywork, cares deeply about students & pushes them to succeed + build friendships (they do). Very energetic, corny at times, lemon bars are a must.
Mike genuinely cares about his students, and is eager to help both in and out of class. His lectures are interesting and his personality makes it enjoyable to attend class. He quickly adapted the course for the online semester, and made sure we still had fun. Overall, a great professor who makes great lemon bars.
Mike was an amazing teacher! The coursework wasnt that difficult and he made class fun and engaging. He cooks treats for the class to motivate us for exams and he is always cracking jokes and making us laugh in class. He makes up a bunch of tricks and tips to help students remember formulas and he truly cares about his students. Nothing bad to say
Prof Mikes lectures are fun and he jokes around to make sure class isnt boring. He thoroughly walks through examples and answers any questions you have. He also has a ton of extra credit, and he bakes for you if the test average is high! The grading might seem hard, but the department grades the tests as a whole so it wont change by professor.
Absolutely amazing teacher. Very well spoken and a great mentor during the online catastrophe.
Mike is one of the best Professors I've ever had. What makes him an enjoyable professor is how he tries his best to make the class low stress and is very accommodating of what you want.
Mike was the best! Even though I had a two hour class period, he always made the lectures really fun and engaging. He was hilarious and had really great stories. I had no prior experience with most the topics learned in this class, but I still managed to get an A+. Mike is super supportive and always willing to help you out or give feedback.
Hands down the best professor I've had during my three years at UMD. All of his lectures are interesting and very unique. If the class does well on exams, he'll bake the whole class treats and give out additional prizes. He also explains concepts so that they've very easy to understand. I wish he taught more classes so I could be in his class again
One of the best professors Ive ever had. I did not put online but half the class was online after COVID. On campus his lectures were fun & informative, and online so were his videos; he is really good at explaining and will help you understand all the concepts if you dont get something. Make sure to do HW and practice problems prior each exam.
Mike is a really great teacher. He clearly cares a lot about his students and the course, and wants them to love taking the class as much as he loves teaching it. His lectures were consistently entertaining, and he is very approachable if you need help with anything. He does grade on the tougher side, but it pushes you to improve in class.
Mike is one of the most passionate teachers I have had. He cares about helping students do well and challenges them in the process. He also likes to relate the material from class to real-world applications.
Mike, One of the best teachers I had this past semester. He is really nice, genuinely cares for his students and is very understanding. His lectures are full of fun and jokes.
Mike's a great guy and an entertaining teacher. He goes the extra mile for his students and makes sure the workload is manageable.
During both semesters, ENES 100 & 102, I felt privileged to have experienced the teaching of an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and receptive educator. His capacity to embrace the inquisitive and challenging spirits of undergrads, and intuitive approach showcasing science, is refreshing. His primary directive clearly is the success of his students.
Mike was an amazing professor! Understanding the material was often difficult but, he put forth great effort to ensure the success of his students. The tests were relatively hard so make sure that studying is a priority.
Mike is AMAZING!!! He puts a lot of time and effort into making and editing his lecture videos. He explains everything in a very simple, clear, and exciting way. Best, most charismatic professor I have ever had! Handling these online classes in the best way, ENES102 and ENES100 have been great experiences with Mike. Fun class! I learned a lot!
Mike's enthusiasm for engineering and teaching is infectious. He provides copious examples of him personally working through problems that are very similar in complexity to anything he puts on the tests. I went in to every test confident that I knew exactly what he expected us to be able to do and how he expected us to do it.
Seriously, if you are going to take ENES 102, PLEASE CONSIDER TAKING IT WITH MIKE! You can obviously see how much effort he put into explaining the concepts and approaches to do exam-like problems, which helps me to not only know what I should study and get high scores on exams, but to also learn how to apply these concepts in real world settings.
Mike is one of the BEST professors you can ever get. He makes Mechanics 1, a very difficult and boring class, likeable. He goes the extra mile to make his lectures hilarious with bloopers and jokes. He takes complex ideas and makes them understandable for even a 3rd grader. On exams and assignments, he grades very clearly and leniently. THE BEST!!!
Professor Galczynski was one of the best professors I have had, clearly caring about his students and giving them the material and the practice that they need to succeed in an engineering science class. Lectures were asynchronous, and there were bonus homework and group work sessions every week, as well as a mandatory Friday group class.
He is a great professor and he really relates to his students. He also wants them to do very well and makes the presentation very easy to understand while making the class very fun. Take his class if you can.
He's an amazing professor if you can take him!! TBH the only reason that I did not get an A is that I didn't put in any work. If you do a couple of hours of practice problems and watch the lectures every week you'll definitely get a B, probably an A
He is honestly going to probably be the best professor I'll ever have.
Absolutely wonderful professor. Super great and enthusiastic about teaching and does a great job with a smile. Likes to give our rewards to students and I am sure that anyone who has taken him will know that his baked goods are the best. Do be prepared to study and work hard as its not an easy A.
Mike managed to make the impossible possible with virtual ENES100. His lectures are entertaining and will keep you engaged through 2 hours of Zoom. He is accessible outside of class, and helps when possible. Mike also puts tons of effort into his instructional videos in an effort to please his students. Do yourself a favor and take Mikes class!
Absolute blast. He brought us lemon squares and baby pumpkins. Handled Zoom well, although 2 hour long classes can get a little mundane.
Mike has got to be the best professor at all of UMD, hes hilarious and makes class time fly by. He is always willing and excited to help students with projects and ideas. There is never a dull moment with Mike in the room. 11/10 If you have the chance to take a class with Mike and dont, you made the wrong choice.
Professor Mike is a phenomenal professor, he teaches very well and makes difficult content easier to understand. Mikes class consistently have the highest test scores compared to other professors because of this. I highly recommend taking this professor.
Michael Galczynski is undoubtedly one of the BEST professor at UMD Engineering. He makes very funny and engaging video lectures (incredible bloopers). Best thing about him is that he gives away loads of extra credit! Mike is very caring and helpful and yes, if you're in his offline class in future... You'll get to enjoy his delicious lemon bars!
Honestly, Mike is the GOAT god, as referenced by Will and I in his class. He makes his videos interesting and his bloopers are a full-on saga like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was one of the professors that would teach you very well for one second, and then be talking about fantasy football the next. Overall, he is the greatest professor ever!
This teacher was hands down my favorite I have had. He puts so much effort into crafting lectures that actually make you learn along with hilarious bloopers to make sure you stay engaged. His class was my favorite even though it was a tough one. I one thousand percent recommend taking his class if you get the chance as you will not be disappointed.
Professor Mike is one of the best ENES100 professors at UMD. Despite being online and not completing the traditional OSV project, Mike made the class fun, educational, and enjoyable! On group projects, he encouraged all members to work beyond expectations and to do their best. He gave valuable feedback and truly cares about all his students.
Great professor, enthusiastic energy which makes class enjoyable. 10/10
makes great lectures that are easy to understand and really cares about his students. he has a good sense of humor and makes a mean lemon bar! if you stay on top of your work and study youll do just fine in the class. 10/10 would recommend mike to anyone
Super super generous and fantastic teacher! Definitely knows how to have fun and teach well. Very supportive of my shenanigans, and replaced most mandatory class time with extra credit. 10/10!
Professor Galczynski is not only a fantastic professor and teacher but truly a friend to the students. Of all the professors I had, Mike made the greatest effort by far to keep his students engaged and entertained in an online environment. If you get your choice for ENES100, Mike is the professor you want to have!
Mike is genuinely the best professor I've had at UMD. His lectures are always super clear and also include "bloopers" at the end to give you a little break. His exams are always super straightforward and if you don't understand something he is sure to help you out. If you have the chance to take Mike, TAKE THAT CHANCE!
I would sell my soul to have Mike Galczynski teach every one of my classes for the rest of college. Also, if you ever see him at Eppley, dont be afraid to say hello.
Mike doesn't doesn't only just care about whether his students understand the content, but he also drops amazing advice both in terms of career and life in general. Even online, he was incredibly interactive with his class. I only wish that my class was longer so I could spend more time learning from him.
Just gotta say, he's an amazing professor all around, especially with the effort he puts into his videos.0
So my review will be a little unique, but I'd say more so than engineering mechanics, professor Galczynski taught me how to be a successful college student and in some broader respects how to live. More so than grades, what you'll learn will make you both a better college student and a better person. Oh and he taught mechanics pretty well.
Out of all my professors, Mike is the only one that made meaningful connections to his students, and it's clearly evident that he cares about the success of each and every one of them. His lectures were funny yet educational and prepared you completely for exams. I had a great time and learned a lot, so I hope to have him again next semester.
Mike is the best teacher you can take for this course. He works hard to get to know his students on a more personal level. Be prepared for a lot of working with other classmates and some class participation. He will push you to do your best on the group projects, but is very caring and supportive. If you ask for an extension youll probably get it.
Mike is such an amazing professor, and if you have the opportunity to take a class with him, definitely don't pass it up. He is super engaging and makes difficult content easy to understand. It's evident that he really cares about his students, and goes above and beyond to help them. He also makes incredible lemon bars. 100% would take again.
This professor is the best out there. You can tell that he cares so much about his students, and his lectures are god tier. To be completely honest, this guy should hold a workshop for other professors on how to teach the class because the world would be so much better if every professor exemplified his teaching style.
His lecture videos are very engaging, unlike a lot of other professors. He does good examples on the subjects and the group work is helpful for preparing for the exams. He was well prepared for online learning.
Mike is a great professor. He is very approachable and shows he truly cares about his students succeeding. His lectures are very entertaining and he provides many opportunities to practice the material. If you practice, you will succeed in this class.
Awesome lectures. Adapted very well to online teaching.
The lecture videos were very funny and engaging and the groupwork and homework assignments really helped me to learn the material. He is very accessible and provides lots of materials to help prepare for tests and provided lots of extra credit to help us out in the time we're in right now. You can tell how much he cares about his students!
He is very inspirational, kind, and cares about his students. There are few professors like him! Take him if you can.
Best prof I've had. Cares so much about the students, always available to help. Lectures are super engaging. And at the end of the year as long as you've been putting in the work he'll curve your grade. Actually cares that his students are well supported, engaged, and actually learning something. I can not recommend taking a class with him enough.
Mike is the best professor I had in my first semester at UMD. He put a lot of time and effort into his online lectures that made them very enjoyable to watch, and gave plenty of optional opportunities for students to receive help, allowing for students of all skill levels to excel as efficiently as possible.
Professor Galczynski is perhaps the best professor I have ever had for a class. His lecture videos were engaging and entertaining, and after watching each one I felt I had an excellent grasp of the subject. My father is an engineer as well and he watched Mike's lectures purely because he loved the way he taught. Hands-down, best professor at UMD.
I had a blast with his class and would trade my left kidney for him to teach all of my science courses for the rest of college. Great editing skills and I wish I had spent more time enjoying his class rather than stressing about my other classes. He really teaches you how to enjoy the experience of working with others and learning.
Mike brings his love of engineering and baking to the classroom with utmost enthusiasm. He doesn't spare the details when teaching, and enabled me to learn curriculum and enjoy it. Fair warning, you get out of the class what you put in, so if you're looking for low effort this may not be for you. I would definitely take Mike as my professor again.
One of the best professors at UMD. His lectures are very entertaining, he cares a lot about his students. He is very lenient when grading exams, he also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. You get what you put into this class, so do the extra credit, do the practice problems and most likely you'll get an A.
Mike is an awesome professor who genuinely cares about his students. He definitely shows passion in what he teaches and that is reflective of how he chooses to communicate the course material to his students.
The professor made class engaging and interactive. I got to know my fellow students throughout the semester which helped with the group projects. Class was always interesting and I could tell that the professor really cared about our education. He was always excited to teach and got the rest of the class excited as well.
Mike is a teacher who clearly cares and puts a lot of effort into his videos and classes. This made online learning easy and enjoyable. The group projects in ENES100 were lots of fun while also being a good challenge.
Professor Mike is incredibly personable and really cares about his students. I had him for both ENES100 and ENES102 and he teaches the material very well, making sure no student is left behind. You can reach out to him anytime for whatever you need and it was a great comfort to have him as my professor.
Mike is one of the best professors I have ever had. He clearly care a lot about his students. He is super funny and makes awesome videos to make class more engaging. He loves engineering and wants to inspire his students.
Take Mike's class, you won't regret it! Grading? Fair. By no means should you slack off, but if you put reasonable effort into your work you WILL succeed. Lectures? Amazing. They are video edited to be entertaining and engaging while teaching you what you need to know. Personality? A gem. Mike cares and is genuinely invested in his students.
Mike is an amazing professor and made ENES100 very enjoyable. He puts a lot of effort into everything he does and he cares a lot about his students. Take him if you can!
Mike is the most passionate professor that Ive had. Because of this, he can expect a lot from his students. If you are taking enes102, definitely try to get Mike.
Best Professor Ever Hands Down
He's a great guy
Mike was an amazing professor! ENES102 is a hard course but his lectures and spirit make the class so much more fun. He really wants all his students to succeed and reached out to me after the first exam to go over problems I had trouble with. He really does go the extra mile to make this class not only informative but fun as well.
Mike is one of the only professors I have had so far who actually really cares about his students. He puts forth a lot of effort into all his lectures, and making sure students actually understand the material being taught in class. He also gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit, as well as practice for exams.
If you have the opportunity to take any class with him, it would be a disservice to yourself to not take it. His passion for teaching really shows even over a completely online semester.
In a time of often unengaging and isolating online learning, Mike provided something I could look forward to. His videos were hilarious and engaging, and the classwork and projects provided lots of hands on learning. Mike cares so much about his students and wants us all to do our best. Could not recommend more.
Mike and Neel really saved online learning for me during the lockdown. Honestly had various other personal issues going on at the same time and Neel and Mike were especially accommodating. Besides that the coursework was difficult for me but if you do exactly what Mike says you'll be fine. Mike's acting chops deserve an oscar.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He really cares about the class and his students. His lectures are actually interesting to watch and has great teaching skills. Plus he can bake really well.
Mike is one of the best professors I've ever had. While ENES102 has a relatively hefty workload, Mike made the material incredibly easy to digest with his well-organized and timestamped series of prerecorded lectures. He responds to questions swiftly and thoroughly, and his humor is one of a kind.
you cab tell he puts a lot of effort into the class it can be difficult at times but there are a lot of study materials you can use
Mike is an amazing professor. I read his reviews on this site before I took him and didn't understand why they were so high. After taking him, I get why. For example, I struggled through the first exam but Mike helped me and I was able to turn my grade around. He's very lenient, kind, and a great teacher in-person or online (my section had both).
Mike is a rare gem among professors. He goes above and beyond to engage every student and makes learning fun with his sense of humor and video editing skills. Even though the lectures are self paced, Mike is always quick to respond and is there for his students. I highly recommend him!
Best teacher I have had at UMD so far. His asynchronous lectures were extremely engaging and at times even funny. He really cares about his students
Mike is the best professor I had so far. The videos he made for class are really informative and funny. Mike is always available to help and he tries to make students learn and get the best out of them. The class projects especially the final project is really one if the best times in this class.
Mike was a great professor. His online lectures were the first ones that I actually enjoyed watching every time. While the class has a lot of material, Mike's teaching style made it hard to get bored. Would definitely recommend.
If you ever want to meet someone who figured out what they were born to do it is Prof. Michael G. He's got it all, showmanship, expertise, and compassion. Keep it up Mike!
Mike is the best professor I have had at the university of maryland and i wish that he could teach all of my classes. Really easy to understand and he always relates the material back to real world examples so it gives meaning to the work that you are doing. If you have a chance to take one of his classes you will learn so much.
Professor Galzynsky truly cares about his students. He really knows how to explain complex concepts without making them dull. Galzynsky is a professor who loves a good corny joke! He fully uses office hours to help students study, but he is also totally down to just chat and tell stories. He is also an incredible baker and brings in goodies!
Professor Galczynski is easily the greatest instructor I have ever had. I was hesitant to take such a short class, but his commitment to helping his students understand the material and effective communication skills made it beyond worth it. Do yourself a favor and enroll in the sections being taught by him.
Although I took this class during the summer (only 6 weeks) and was online, Prof Mike created a wonderful learning environment that really promoted the understanding of course content. The lectures were always a joy to watch, his office hours (alongside his UTFs) were always helpful, and he always provided useful material to study for exams.
Mike creates great videos to help keep you engaged in the content. He also gives grate feed back, is accessible outside of class, and is eager to communicated with his students. Great teaching style. %100 recommend you take what ever classes you can with Galczynski.
Mike is probably one of the best teachers out there. He brings so much enthusiasm and laughter to class and spreads it to the students that welcome his energy and vibe with open arms. Mike also provides excellent feedback on assignments and projects that he assigns while also introducing further insight on the subject. 10/10!
A great teacher for ENES100 and gave a friendly introduction into engineering studies. He is a very kind guy and wants only the best for his students, and does this by giving thorough feedback and creating very cool concepts for projects. Although he graded a little more harshly than I initially thought he would, Mike is one my favorite teachers!
Mike is one of the best instructors I've had. His pre-recorded lectures are funny and informative, and he kept his class super engaging despite it being all virtual. He is very clear with his expectations but is also very accommodating. I highly recommend participating in his class and putting in the extra effort, as it will go a long way.
Mike is a great professor and I could not recommend him more heavily. Took the class over the summer and he was very understanding about obligations his students had outside of the course.
Professor Mike has a unique persona and was always able to impress me with the lectures. Personally found him to be really funny and the lectures more bearable and engaging. He also bakes desserts and offers great opportunities!!
I love his teaching style and sense of humor. He got great video editing skills and ofc baking skills! This class is quite a lot of work so don't underestimate it cuz it's 100 lvl. But Mike was there for students at all times. He is very understanding and was not too strict on deadlines as the class was pretty fast-paced. Regards, Green Goblin ;)
Mike is exactly what you are looking for when coming into engineering at UMD. His class is not easy, it is fair. If you do the work, you will get a good grade. You do feel the pressure of the course, though this is engineering, what did you expect. He does well-transitioning students into the curriculum and if you are stuck he will be there.
This was the first semester Mike has ever taught Fluids and overall he did an awesome job. He makes lectures interesting and relates topics to real-world events. He did not give an excessive amount of homework and the exams were based right on the lectures and homework. He was very direct and I would highly recommend him to anyone!
Mike is probably one of the best teachers Ill ever have. He made learning about engineering both fun and informative, all the while working tirelessly to make sure students could understand and enjoy learning the content both in person and online.
This was Mike's first semester teaching fluids but you would never know that if he didn't tell you. He's so passionate about teaching and makes lectures really clear it makes learning the material so much easier. The class is hard and you can't get around that, but he did a great job helping us understand. I wish Mike taught all of my classes!
Mike was a great professor throughout the entire semester. The lectures were usually pretty fun and not at all a bore. He'd be engaged the entire time and would engage the class as well. His teaching style was digestible and you're really able to pick up on everything as long as you pay attention. Not many HWs, prepared you greatly for Exams.
He's a really good professor and is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's always there to lend a helping hand and always encourages us to persist despite failure.
Really wants his students to succeed, great professor
Mike is a great professor and puts a lot effort into his presentations. He has an enthusiastic attitude, great stories of when he was a student/engineer, and a great sense of humor that made the class interesting and valuable. In sum, if you pay attention in class and do your part on your team for the OTV project, you will do well in his class.
Mike is a very personable teacher, has a good sense of humor that makes his lectures more interesting and he also teaches in a creative way using real world examples. He is also very reasonable in what he asks you to do on his exams, unlike some other professors who have taught the class before. If you have the opportunity to take his class, do it.
Mike is very personable and energetic. ENES100 is basically a giant group project and he gives his students a lot of support and advice for how to succeed. Our group was struggling a lot near the end and he took the time to help us redesign parts of our OTV. Make sure you ask him and the TFs questions because they are happy to help.
Top professor I've ever had. He took a class that is well known to be difficult and taught harshly from other professors, and turned it into a very fun, intersting, engaging, and simplier to understand course. Mike is truly an educator ahead of his time. Plus, his wisdom he shared after our final exam truly changed my life. Take him!!
Mike is one of my favorite teachers!! Such a genuinely nice person who wants the best for all his students, in and out of the classroom. While he's a tough grader, he provides the necessary material to do well in the class and is eager to answer your questions. He does like to see you make an effort though, so do so! He also brings snacks :)
Mike is a truly special professor. Most of the reviews you read about him are spot on. He loves to teach and it's apparent by listening to just his first lecture. Mike has a ton of knowledge and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Even better, Mike loves to bake and brings treats into class. His laugh is infectious and he's an awesome person.
Mike encourages success, connections, and creativity. At first glance, he seems to be a funny guy who can bring energy to the classroom but throughout the semester, you realize how intelligent he is. On top of that, he is always willing to guide any student achieve their goals in the classroom but also in their future. A true gem of a person.
Gives great and helpful information from the past to explain what past students have done and builds off from and implements announcements at a timely pace. Course was done so that real world advice such as internship methods became novel extra pieces of information.
Professor Mike is probably the best professor I've ever taken or will ever take again! Compared to other ENES100 professors he's in another universe. Super funny, super helpful and understanding. Really pushes students to interact with each other and strive for excellence. 10/10 !
Mike is the best professor I have taken or will ever take again! He gives excellent and helpful information. Other professors are boring and hand out too much work, but Mike is the opposite. The class is difficult, but he makes it better. In addition, he does like to see you make an effort though, so do so! He also brings snacks like cookies :)
Professor Mike is simply amazing. Every day he comes well prepared to class with an amazing personality and ready to make a lot of jokes. His lectures are great and he always puts his students first. He is enthusiastic about the ENES100 competition and is always inspiring us students to think creatively about how to make our project be the best.
Mike is great. He provides really clear deadlines and explanations as well as out of class content to reinforce learning. ENES100 is essentially a large group project where you build a small vehicle to complete tasks. At the end of the semester there is a competition. Mike's sections consistently preform better than others because of him as a prof.
Mike Galczynski is an absolute legend. I've literally had nobody teach me so well and enjoy the content I was learning in class. His skills and abilities allowed me to gain such great friends in this course and maybe even lifelong buddies. Not only that, but he has given me a great opportunity to help expand my passion in video editing.
Mike is an incredible professor, and is probably one of the best educators I have had in my entire career as a student. Mike is the master of using fun metaphors to explain rather complicated concepts and topics, and he makes you feel smart just by listening to him. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take any class you can with him.
I LOVED THIS CLASS WITH MIKE!! He is the absolutes best and makes learning so so fun and easy in this class. The class structure was incredibly clear and while you would mostly be working with your group, Mike and a UTF were always accessible and helpful when needed. I highly recommend taking any class with Mike if possible!!
Mike's class is very funny and you learn a lot in it.
Mike is easily one of the best professors you could ever hope to learn from, not just at UMD but life as a whole. His lectures were full of humor which helps a 2 hour lecture fly by and gets you wishing you could stay longer. Mike clearly cares about each and every one of his students, and will always find ways to help you succeed. WE LIKE MIKE!!!
Mike genuinely cares about each and every one of his students. You really do get out what you put into his class, so work hard and always ask for help. His lectures are always full of great stories and are very informative--make the two hours fly by! He has lots of group activities to have you get to know your team better and make great friends!
there are homework assignments every week and you are given plenty of practice problems that range from easy to a bit more complex. Lectures are interactive and very productive, you will learn a lot attending them. Mike encourages students to study together for exams. Exams also reflect material covered in lectures and homework.
Professor Mike is without a doubt one of the best professors I've ever had. his lectures are organized and enjoyable, he communicates well with his students and he just makes a great learning atmosphere in general. You can obviously see how much he cares about his students and how much he loves teaching; I hope I could take more classes with him.
Mike is the best, plain and simple. Funny as well. Very fun class.
ENES100 was the best class I have ever taken and it could not have been without Mike as my professor. From the lecture portion to the building phase, Mike genuinely cares about the success of his students. Mike provides the opportunity, and its up to you to take it.
Mike was such an amazing professor. He was funny, encouraging, and entertaining in class. The class itself can be difficult if you are like me and put a lot of time and energy into the project, but I learned so much it was worth it. Mike encouraged us to think like engineers and try things outside of our comfort zone and baked us goodies.
Mike is a great professor! He's compassionate, caring and patient with every student. He truly wants to see everyone succeed. I took ENES100 with zero knowledge of coding and Arduino circuits, and Mike explained them in a way that made sense! As long as you put forth effort, he will see that, and you will get the grade that reflects that.
Mike was such a great professor and he made ENES100 the most fun class I've taken so far. I would absolutely recommend anyone take him as your professor as no matter what he is teaching, he is caring, knowledgable, and always there to help.
A very passionate professor, with an aim to make sure that you truly understand the application of what you are learning. Desires for every student to do well, not just in class but at Maryland in general. He greatly encourages participation, questions, group study, interaction etc. Very caring and helps this very difficult class be a bit easier.
Mike has an amazing personality and is second to none when it comes to teaching. He is passionate about what he does and cares deeply for his students. The only downside is that he's a Philadelphia sports fan, but he more than makes up for said shortcoming :)
BEST professor. Inspired me to become an engineering major. I came into ENES100 with no prior experience with any engineering concepts; Mike made such a wonderful environment where we all learned from each other and friends with all of your classmates. He is a fair professor and a true mentor. He makes great baked goods so you'll be fed too!!
Mike was an excellent professor. He really took the time to design the class to be as immersive as possible. I never felt like I was doing busy work or wasting my time, I always felt like I was learning. I had a lot of fun in this class, even though the task at hand was very difficult.
Very fun class and THE prof to take for ENES100. You will get the most out of this class with Mike as your prof and have fun doing it. He could be a comedian so it is a very entertaining class. Most entertaining and caring prof I will probably ever have. Also, super easy class. You learn a lot. Extra credit. He brings in homemade baked goods too!
He is very nice and professional! Fluids is a hard course but professor Galcynski makes the lectures fun and gives real world examples to help understand the material better! Enjoyable class overall!
Sadly I have zero prior background with all of the course content on the trip, but there is no other classes like this that even a person like me could learn so many new things that I could never imagine learning previously from the memorable sceneries, site visits, and lectures in such a short period of time. Worth every single dollar spent there.
Mike is the GOAT
Not else much to say. Make sure you sign up for his class early because they get taken fast! Favorite professor on campus.
The best professor you could get for ENES100. I had a very fun time throughout this class, and Mike has the ability to energize all his students.
Mike is a great professor and a great fit for any study abroad program. He truly cares about his students and pushes them to succeed. Sometimes slow to grade however he stays very communicative about anything and everything. One of the best on campus.
Taking this study abroad course with Mike was one of the best experiences in my undergraduate studies. The trip was very well planned - including pre- and post-trip events. Mike's lectures were very engaging. Assignments were very reasonable to do while travelling. He also made a great effort to help people on the trip when problems came up.
I took ENME407 during the Winter 2023 term in Costa Rica and Mike was the best professor I could have asked for. He was very knowledgeable about the country and all the course content, and was well-organized and cared about the education and fun of all his students. In just two weeks, I learned so much and experienced so much. Would recommend!
Mike is a very entertaining professor who makes the subject fun and easy to understand. He is encouraging and is helpful if you have trouble with the material. If you like jokes and relatable topic connections while you learn he is your guy.
Mike is a wonderful professor! He is incredibly supportive and helpful, and cares a lot about his students. He has also created videos online for the course that go in-depth and really help you understand the course content more. He also provided extra credit and wanted to see all his students succeed. Mike's lectures are also always entertaining!
Pretty good! This class is the most enjoyable I had, and a lot was due to Mike!
This guy is AMAZING!!! He is always available if I ever needed help. He made learning REALLY fun, too. He always made lectures interesting with all his funny stories and jokes. He is always willing to answer your questions during class and outside. He is a very practical grader and offers so many resources in order for you to do well in his class.
Professor Mike cares about his student and tries to make the class fun and keep students engaged while teaching the class. Lecture is very important and you should attend every class to make sure you understand the material covered in class. He also ensures that we collaborate with our coursemates to prepare for the exams. Seats go quickly, sign up
Mike Galcynzski is the best professor for taking this course and probably many others. He teaches theory, but goes more in depth on how to actually solve problems which is more important for higher exam grades. I would take him again or recommend him to any other student taking the same course. For ENES102 specifically I recommend Mike.
Amazing professor & course. Definitely an experience of a lifetime. We visited breathtaking places and made great memories. We also learned a tremendous amount about geothermal power generation, along with the interactions between power generation and the environment, through fun and interesting field trips and activities.
Mike is awesome, he will help you out a ton in this class and he is by far the best teacher for ENES100 and ENES102 from what I have seen. Take him for sure, literally a no brainer.
Mike is a legend. His lectures are very clear and concise, and he also has lecture videos on Youtube. He teaches like a peer or TA, he's like "this is what you're going to encounter" and "this is how to solve it." If you have any questions, go to his office hours, he breaks down the questions and helps you solve them. Bonus, he's a great baker.
Professor Mike was, without a doubt, the absolute best professor/teacher I have ever had in my entire life. - Answers questions thoroughly, do not be afraid to ask for clarification! - Friendliest and funniest professor I've had, I genuinely looked forward to coming to class each week! - You get what you give, be enthusiastic and you'll succeed!
If you can take Mike, do it. He creates dynamic lectures through humor and demonstrations, which makes an otherwise mundane topic fairly bearable. He also isn't so far removed from his days in mechanics, so he understands some students' feelings towards it. He goes out of his way help students succeed in the class. Great professor.
Mike is part of a rare breed of professors who care about students more than whether the final calculations were correct or the product was successful. He emphasized the process of becoming an engineer, working with others, and learning valuable skills. Your grade should be fine as long as your team reflects on what went wrong/what can be improved.
Mike is by far my favorite professor that I've had at UMD. He truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. The class environment was friendly and welcoming. We were frequently encouraged to have conversations with our neighbor at the beginning of class, and I would always laugh during lecture. Mike is a fair grader and a great teacher.
Mike is one of a kind. He made us realize that learning is easy if we include all the fun! He always cares about all his students and gives them the best classroom experience possible. He tells a lot of stories and jokes here and there during his lectures to make us feel engaged and excited. He has a bursting personality and able to inspire others!
The study abroad program in Iceland was amazingly cultivated to show us what the country has to offer. The class balanced fun with education into the renewable energy systems of Iceland. Traveling on interesting field trips and bonding as a group makes this trip a one of a kind opportunity.
Mike was definitely the best professor I've had! He made every single one of his lectures engaging and hilarious. He offers so many different opportunities for extra credit and makes it clear how much he cares for each and every one of his students; he really wants everyone to succeed. He's the best and made the class super fun!
He is an amazing Professor who truly cares about the success of his students. Always made the lectures engaging and interesting, and also provided ample opportunity to succeed in the class. In addition, Mike provided great constructive criticism and advice that helped us think creatively and ultimately complete our tasks with greater success.
funny and super nice. Understanding and provides a ton of ways to catch up on missed lectures
This is a review for the Iceland study abroad program. Mike was very knowledgeable and fun, and even was the trip photographer. Overall, it is a once in a lifetime experience made even better by the great professors.
Mike makes the topics you learn really engaging and fun, best prof I've had
Mike cares a lot about his students and helping them learn. He also puts a lot of effort into making his classes approachable, enjoyable, and applying them to the real world. If he didn't know the answer, he would come to class the next time prepared to answer it. A passionate professor who cares about his students and their education.
Mike is genuinely one of the most engaging and caring professors I've had the pleasure of working with. He is able to take complex topics and make them accessible through his excellent lectures. He truly cares for his students and goes out of his way to get to know them and guide them to success. Take anything you possibly can with Mike!!
Mike was genuinely one of the best professors I've had during my time at UMD. He makes class fun and engaging and always tries to relate problems to real life situations. Fluids is typically a very challenging course, but the way Mike supports and helps his students makes it very manageable. I highly recommend taking this professor.
Professor Mike brings an engaging and fun approach to this class. His lectures are captivating, and he genuinely cares about student success. Utilize resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the free textbook to excel in this manageable course.
While Mike's lectures are very good and his feedback is very solid, his grading leaves a LOT to be desired. He waits until the feedback is submitted, then grades like he's trying to fail people. Did me and my team super dirty, taking points for no good reason. Avoid.
Mike is an amazing professor and made me more confident that I am in the right major. Would 100% recommend for ENES100!
Awesome guy!! Really cool and the best professor to take for this class and any other he offers. Wish I could take him again.
Had him for my class in Iceland. Awesome cool guy that's fun to be around.
Mike is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's funny in a sarcastic way and encourages you to ask questions and give him feedback. I 100% recommend his classes!
Mike is a great teacher who does everything in his power to help you succeed. If you have the option always go for his class. Keep the 8 peat!
Mike is the GOAT. Had him for my first semester at umd and couldn't ask for a better first professor. Very laid back, but not in a sense that discourages students from completing their work. He encouraged students to learn on their own during our vehicle capstones, but was always more than happy to help out when students asked for assistance.
The Lebron James of ENES100
Mike is great but the class is hard get ready to work. Definitely take Mike if you can he's the goat.
Mike is one of the funniest and most engaging professors I've ever seen. He makes boring topics interesting and he has tricks to make hard topics easier to learn. He does everything right. I 100% recommend taking his classes. It'll be a great experience.
Michael is an outstanding professor who actively keeps students engaged in ENES100 during the 2.5 hour classes. One of his greatest gifts is bringing students together even when we are in different groups, majors, or even other classes. If you want a good laugh, great stories, and inspirational videos, I highly recommend Michael.
Mike is an incredible professor who cares about each and every one of his students. His lectures are engaging and he finds creative ways to explain otherwise boring concepts. Getting Mike for Enes102 is honestly like winning the lottery.
Mike is the best professor I've had at UMD by far. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Every lecture was super engaging and I found it a lot easier to learn that way. I definitely recommend taking him for 102. Also, Mike has a youtube channel which has numerous review videos which I found to be very helpful!
He's a great teacher and if he's available I would take him.
Super fun teacher. There is a good amount of homework but he actually teaches you everything you need to know so the tests are easier. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but he won't give everyone extra credit if attendance falls below a certain number. Overall, great teacher and just make sure to no procrastinate on the homework.
