He's awesome! He is very helpfull with all of the lessons. He uses powerpoint slides!

Great teacher! 10 question quizes. Be sure to be the first few to give a speech because he does slack off the grading. Just make sure you ask him to e-mail you the Powerpoint that way in class you can just listen. It's alot of notes to take. If you miss a class just look over the powerpoint for quizes. Quizes are like his powerpoint. Nothing tricky

Mike is the best teacher! He is very laid back. He gives out test reviews the day before that include everything that will be on the test. He definetely makes taking a speech class a breeze. Highly recommend for an easy A.

Easy Communications Grade. Teaches you how to be professional without it being hard. His tests are based on the powerpoints given in class. If you miss it, ask him to email it to you. Easy grading when you give speeches.

Mr.Givens is a very fun and entertaining teacher. He lectures with powerpoints, but manages to make them very interesting. He really does care about his students and wants to to succeed. He just offers night classes, but it is well worth it!

Mr. Givens is very interactive with his students. He tries to relate the material to us. He does powerpoints that can be found on the campus crusier so really you come to class listen and have fun and when you know there is a quiz coming hop on line and review all of his powerpoints. AWESOME teacher! You wont reject taking his class!

this has to be one of the best teachers i have ever taken! he is wonderful in the way that he speaks, and he is VERY lenient on all homework, and attendance, as long as you give him a fair warning. our class was like a family and we had GREAT discussions. you will LOVE the class, I PROMISE!

This class was so fun! I had already taken the same class the previous semester, but gotten a D. I hated speech, but he made it really fun. It's not hard to get an A in this class. He is a great teacher.

I LOVED this class. I took the 9 p.m. class and I never regretted it. Mr. Givens is fun, super laid back, and tells you everything you need to know to pass. All tests are from the powerpoint so you cannot fail unless you do not pay attention. I wish more teacher's were like him. He is a REAL New Yorker and proud of it. You will love him!

So much to say about professor givens! He is by far the most sincere and understanding professor I've ever had. All tests and quizzes are from his slide show lectures he does in class which you can print from campus cruiser at home. He is easy, laid back, and very funny. If I could take him for the rest of my college career I would without a doubt do so. One thing is, he's not good looking-don't get your hopes up! Regardless he is EXCELLENT!

I've never been a fan of speaking in public, but this professor makes it easy! Mr. Givens is a great teacher that is very understanding to each individual students' situation. His tests and quizes are extremely "fair." As long as you attend his lectures and study his power points, then there is no reason to buy the book. A+++ Awesome teacher!!

Mr. Givens is a wonderful teacher! All his powerpoint lectures are online and he tells you exactly what will be on his quizzes and exams. Took him for the summer, he does take attendance but he lets you miss 4 classes without affecting your grade. Textbook absolutely not needed! I wish I could take him for every class!

He makes learning fun, and that's a rare quality to find in a professor, now a days. The only way to fail his class is if you don't show up and don't do your work. JUST TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!

Take his class. Very easy-going and funny. Reviews before every quiz and test, both of which are very easy. All speech classes must do the two mandatory informative/persuasive essays but he is very lax and helps you feel comfortable in front of the class.

Great teacher..... boring subject

First off, I took this class on a Saturday, and it was 3 hours long, but he made it fly by! You do a lot in class because it was only once a week, and he's funny. The quizes are super easy. You don't need to take notes because he always gives you the same exact slides before every test and quiz for a review, write those down, but not the other ones

Mr. Givens is possibly the best teacher I have ever had. He is super energetic and kind. He made the class as fun as he could with the material he had to work with. GO to class, reviews for quizzesexams are provided and simple! The tests are easy if you just run through his reviews. YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK! TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

If you need a speech class for your degree, TAKE PROF. GIVENS! He is dynamic, hilarious, and truly cares about his students. He makes Speech Communication come alive, and wants to see you succeed. He expects punctuality and dislikes disrespectful attitudes - towards ANYONE. The only frustrating part of the class was the group project. Take him!

This teacher was great. the grading was simple and easy to keep track of. There will be a few group project but are very simple. really all you need to do is show up and you can pass. This class isn't as tough as it seems.

If you're terrified of speech class, TAKE THIS TEACHER. Only 3 mandatory speeches, most of your grade is through quizzes that involve definition. VERY easy/lot of common sense. I knew most of the definitions before even starting class. A joy to listen to, GREAT personality. One of my favorites - I hate speech, but might even take again just for him

Professor Givens will lecture the entire class, maybe let our early 1 or 2 days. Tests are not difficult, its just the quizzes laid out, took me 25 minutes to finish them. Super easy, fun to listen to. 1 group project speech, plus 2 individual speeches. Very straight forward class, highly recommend. Easy A!!! Would take again

Mr. Givens is an aweome professor who will make you comfortable with speaking in front of the class. He is very laid back, funny and understanding of all. He is lenient when grading group projects and speeches. Hard to fail this class, you have to do nothing in order to fail. Highly recommend this professor for this course.

I found professor Givens to be very inspirational, he ensures you are comfortable in class and not only does he give you the information through lecture, he reviews the info again on the class period before taking a test. Three speeches w/powerpoints and he allows you to be creative with your topic. He is a safe option and I highly recommend him!

Givens is extremely friendly! He has amazing lectures and he's very funny. TEXTBOOK NOT REQUIRED. He'll tell you right off the bat he did all the reading for you, and everything you need for tests is in his lectures.

Givens is an amazing teacher. He cracks jokes and always makes sure the lecture isnt boring. He gives you a chance to retake a quiz if you have missed one. He states right off the bat you do not need the textbook. He is a fair graders. If I had Mr. Givens for all my Business classes I would be pushing harder to get my BA in Business quicker.

His class helped me get over my fear of public speaking! Was a great learning environment and was a great course to help transition from high school to college. He is very easy going and is super cool. I definitely recommend taking him. He recommends that you buy the textbook, but I never used it and got an A.

Really cool professor. He helped me get over my fear of public speaking. His quizzes & exams are a piece of cake but he does take the speeches very seriously as far as grading! You don't need the book because he puts it on Powerpoint. He gives about 25 points of extra credit, not mandatory. Lots of quizzes, a group project, and only two speeches. He is funny and wants you to learn and pass his class.

Mr. Givens is a great teacher. His class was a lot of fun. Plenty of Extra Credit if you want it. He is very easy to understand and very clear, concise, and correct. I would recommend this class to anyone willing to learn. You are very comfortable in his class during your two speeches.

Super great professor and his lectures are good. His tests are an easy A inlcuding speeches, only if you do it professionally good enough. I only give him a 4/5 because I find his grading criteria super BS, lol I feel like he gives you a whatever grade. Passed with a flat 90 and was scared of getting a B for the final. Anyways I still recommend him

He is a very nice instructor to take at Tarrant County College. Quizzes and tests are very easy and straightforward, just show up everyday for class and do every assignment you're given, and you'll get an easy A. Another nice thing is you don't need to buy the textbook!

I LOVE Mr. Givens. So funny, sweet, intelligent, and caring. This is not a difficult course if you come to class and do what you're assigned. I would not take anyone else for speech. Prof Givens is the BEST professor I've ever had. He hand feeds you the information you need, as well as gives a study guide. His class was extremely easy and he makes it so that all can get a great grade. The workload is minimal and he gives you plenty of time to prepare and turn things in. Grades are extremely easy if you pay attention during the lectures and maybe study a bit before. he has very organized powerpoints and lets his student be creative with their projects. his class is truly a safe space and he respects even his younger students. loved his night class it was diverse

This was a very enjoyable class. He is very personal, friendly and at times funny. He knows the material very well. Though he requires that all projects be completed, he is more than willing to work with you when necessary.

Easy grader and very understanding. I ended up turning in the last two speeches late because of technical difficulties and messing up his email, but still took them for full credit. He even takes late work but took points off for being late. Would definitely take again if online, I don't know how he is in person though.

he's pretty chill and engages with students. he teaches off PowerPoints and gives you access to them. He reviews in class for quizzes and exams and provides reviews online as well. few extra credit opportunities. two final speeches which are pretty simple, group project, and finals are just like quizzes just 50 questions rather than 10.

his class was great. the work was explained very well. he goes over what he is asking from you at least 3 times. He answers any questions you have. He is open to compromise as long as you talk to him. He loves his class to be active and respond during lectures. GREAT teacher!

I loved Professor Givens! He taught a very simple speech class and was very generous. He offered many extra credit assignments. As long as you try and follow his instructions, you should make an A! My only wish was that he gave feedback from the speeches. I had no idea how I got the grades I got, but I made an A so I didn't really care to ask.

Not a difficult class by any means and I am sure most are just taking the course to fulfill a SPCH credit, regardless you can tell Mr. Givens really cares for his students and is a very kind human being. Nothing but positive things to say about my experience taking his course!

I took this class in Spring 23' and Prof Givens was great! The lectures, although somewhat boring, he managed to teach engagingly. There were group projects, mock interviews, resume assignments, and individual projects. He let us do our individual projects over whatever topic we wanted and he made the class fun! Quizzes were easy. Nice guy!

I wasn't very excited to do speech. because I'm shy, but Mr. Givens made it feel not so bad. Having a bad teacher for speech would have made it much harder than it needed to be. Make sure to pay attention to the units about speeches he grades speeches kind of seriously.

Professor Givens is fabulous. Lectures and PP presentations will summarize the textbook, so that is not necessary. Material is easily comprehendible and Quiz questions are available for review online. I wish he'd provide more feedback for his grading on group projects and speeches but overall his expectations are shared and he is fair.

I never do things like this but Michael Givens is too amazing not to! He is very understanding and respects you. He was warming and his classroom felt like a safe place. I never wanted to leave! I ran into him and he was so excited to see me. He gave me a high five, held my hand, and told me happy new year. A loving man who cares for every student!

I was lazy taking this class but if i actually showed up to class more i would've definitely made a A. Overall his class was so easy if you actually went to class. There was a mock interview, persuasive essay and informative essay some other extra credit assignments quizzes like every week or two. Very easy class. Just show up.

Professor Givens is definitely an unassuming revelation, he is extremely relaxed in the grading department and will allow you to complete assignments even after they are due without any late points taken off. He said he's only teaching for 1-2 more years so definitely choose his class while you can. For the most part, he's just a chill guy.
