professor gray is the best history teacher ever. I honestly dread history but after taking a class with him, I actually became interested in history. He applies real life with history and makes it fun to learn. Take his class for history.
He is a great guy who knows his stuff- esp Civil War, but is not as easy as stated and rounded down grades for quite a few students last semester.
One of the best.
He really knows his stuff. As long as you work hard, you will pass. He is one of the best on this campus.
He is pretty hot, but his son is even hotter. He is a good teacher, but can be strict. Excellent teacher he really knows his stuff and shares his knowledge.
He his a great person and makes the class interesting for those who don't even like history. Great for upcoming teachers he gives lots of good ideas. A definly must take for a history class...tests aren't that hard just stay for his review.
nice guy but in my opinion a not so good teacher. doesnt prepare you enough for his tests, and who knows where the info on his tests come from
I thought this would be a boring class, but it was far from boring.favorite class this semester and favorite prof by far.just transferred but gray is excellent and knows his stuff.makes you work for your grade, but you learn so much in the process.take his class...you will learn and have fun!
Best teacher I have had on campus so far-has a great positive personality, with varied resources used in teaching-it made me look forward to learning in his class-his breezy teaching style took some getting used to, but really grew on me-can be strict in his grading-expects thoroughness in writing.
Dr. Gray is a really nice guy.I hate history and I enjoyed his class. He does alot of group discussions.Everything in the test is pulled out of his notes.I never opened the book! His test take getting used to but if you stay for the test review youll be fine.go to class, take notes, dont buy the book!
Doc is hot, you should take any class of his just for that reason:)
He's a really nice guy. His notes can be a little confusing, but I learned a lot.
Goes way beyond the call to duty, excellent teacher, easy to understand, enthusiastic, makes class really interesting, excellent powerpoint presentations, no sneaky stuff on his tests, genuine, loves students, wants to help students succeed, the absolute best at ESU. Don't miss out on this guy!
I just completed my M.A. in History at ESU Dr. Gray is the best instructor in the school. He is very concerned about fairness, he is passionate for the subject and in all likelyhood, he will be the very best educator that you ever encounter.
Dr. Gray is a kick-ass professor, probably the best at ESU. My girlfriend thinks he is smokin hot, but he likes the Red Sox, so I am not that fond of him for that. His class is definetly worth taking to learn something. I can't wait to take him again.
Really a nice guy, always offering to give more to students on individual level that would help them prepare for papers, tests, presentations. FINALLY, a professor that can use email AND power point!
Besides the fact that he's really hot and likes the Red Sox, he's a very concise, clear teacher. I loved going to his class, even though it was early in the morning. He often used a variety of teaching styles, from power point, group discussions, movies, etc to get his point across.Great class.
he is such a chill guy and it shows how much he loves history by his great lectures, tests are easy if you take good notes. he does like the red sox (booooo)... but its all good, take his any class you can with him.. its so worth it :)
Easy! Only 4 tests and likes to watch clips of movies to help us understand his material. 10 outta 10
Best teacher i've had here(3years). He is extremely helpful and fair, he teaches to get the best out of his students, he's not on an unprofessional powertrip like every other prof. here at esu. Great guy, good stories, good teaching methods, take him for any type of history
great educator: attentive and caring: knowledgeable of subject matter: sense of humor: prefers oral presentations vs written reports: will definitely recommend for future classes

Doc Gray was my baseball coach in high school as well as my history teacher. Thanks to him I have a great understanding of the Civil War even used his material at my college. He was strict and stern but also knew how to have fun with his material. Doc i

great class, great teacher and you learn alot from.. and hes nice to look at! but seriously its an awesome class.. ive taken all 3 of his and wish i could take more
Dr. Gray, despite following terrible sports teams, is an excellent professor. A practical joker who really gets you involved. Take him if you want to learn and enjoy a class while you do. I'll miss not having him again.
a stickler for details. didnt learn much. boring professor who seems to draw upon a small knowlege base. not terrible but take another hist class if you can
Prof Gray is the best prof at ESU he is really interesting and knows what he is talking i would take him agian. the person who wrote the bad comment about him doesnt know what they are talking about
i lOVED Dr.Gray, he makes you really excited to learn what he is teaching because he is really excited about it, and i am not a person who liked history until i took him for just about everything, he is amazing, hard at grading, and the true/falses on his tests are tricky, but he's fair, if you do everything right, you'll get a good grade.
yeah i dont kno what the bad comment is about? hes NOT boring at all.. he makes the class fun and interesting...he does like detail in his essays.. and the class isnt a breeze, but just study the material and ull do fine.. id definatly take him again.. and he is cute :)

ten minutes alone in his office with him will raise your blood pressure like a million degrees... hes gorgeous but he doesnt know it. verrry interesting guy, excited about hist. and loves to explain things. would take him a million more times!
He keeps his class interesting althought sometimes i feel like he treats us like high schook kids but his class is pretty easy
gray is the man. hes an awesome teacher and he keeps us awake in class but his tests are harder but thats what you gotta respect about him he challenges you to know his info. the only draw back is that where my class is STROUD 412 is so god damn hot its not even funny.TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL LIKE IT.
i think i'm in love with him! <3
Don't bother buying the book, his tests are soley based on the notes. Gives bonus points for group work on the tests.. very interesting and great prof.. and also very easy on the eyes :)
Dr. Gray was my professor for 19th Century and 20th Century America I, as well as my advisor. He was the best professor at ESU, very accessible and very smart. Tests not particularly difficult, just focus on packing as much detail in as possible. And yes,...he is gorgeous. :D
Dr. Gray is definitely one of the best teachers I have had at ESU so far. It's obvious he loves his job and he is more than willing to help if you need it. The only minor issue I had was that there were only 4 grades [including the final] for the semester. Besides that, his class was interesting and easy if you pay attention.
He excites me in more ways than one... ;) he knows a lot of stuff, and i love his class!
Dr. Gray is an extremely passionate teacher who brings his love of history to all in his class... loves teaching, and conveys that to all around. His material is easily understood and a must take prof! He reviews for exams and usually gives out some of the essay question (+)(he is soo sooo hot too!)
He is by far the greatest professer at ESU. He is very knowledgeable on his subject, provides interesting stories to accent his teaching, and is very helpful. TAKE EVERY CLASS YOU CAN WITH HIM!
deff don't need the (text) book for the class, just the reading materials. Tests are on the notes from class. He is seriously a MASTER at what he studies..esp Civil War. I had no idea how I would do on the tests because his notes are quite confusing..but did really good. he is FARE and gives a lot of chances for a few extra credit points in class
His tests are tricky. I hated his mutiple choise questions but his has extra credit opportunities. Study your notes well, only a few questions are from the book. He loves the 18th Century. He is open to helping students if they are having a tough time or do not understand the subject. Easy class.
A professor with lectures that are actually interesting! I'm not a history major but I found his class very interesting. He's a nice guy with a good sense of humor and a fair grading system. take him!
He's a great prof, thats for sure! super easy A, just study notes... I am in love with him!!!
He makes learning really interesting, but his abbreviations are impossible to understand sometimes.
This was my least fav class of the semester. Notes are hard to follow and in excess, tests are difficult he always turns the lights on and off which is very annoying. He relates everything to sports and will do this every class. He also plugs his other classes that he teaches almost every class. 2 tests, a journal with quizzes, and a book review.
Loved his teaching style and classroom environment. Passionate about history and actually liked how he related history to current issues, even sports. Made it power points more interesting. Not my major, but would take again and again
Great teacher! I absolutely loved going to his class because he is so passionate about what he teaches. He's very laid back and always finds ways to help anyone who is struggling. I recommend taking him history major or not!
Amazing teacher. You will learn without a lot of effort. He will get the whole class involved and makes sure everyone understands the material. Very Helpful and passionate about his job.
He was great! As long as you attend class do your paper and read the few chapters assigned your golden! He is extremely helpful and nice!
He was amazing! do what he says and you will excel by far my favorite esu teacher and history is not even my major!
Awesome Professor! Tests are a little difficult but if you pay attention in class and take notes than you'll do great. Keeps class interesting as well. Favorite professor at ESU so far
Great professor. Personable, and fun. Makes class interesting. I wish I could take more of his classes.
Dr. Gray is laid-back, fun, and knowledgeable. Be prepared to do a lot of independent reading if you're taking an upper level, and class participation is a must--he keeps track, believe me.
Awesome professor, he tries to get everyone involved so they understand the material. Trys to relate it to your interests. He pretends like he lives in the time period, brings in artifacts. Attendance not required but he gives "freebies" on tests based on what happened in class. Felt like 2 parts of the class, the online part and the in class part
Loved his class! So far my favorite professor at ESU. The class I had him for, attendance wasn't mandatory but I wouldn't recommend skipping because he gives good side notes. I absolutely hated history until I took his class!
Attendance is mandatory and don't use your phone at all in class he will catch you
Do not just print out power points. He paraphrases a lot and most of his info is what he says in class. But honesty, the easiest class I have ever taken at ESU. DONT BUY THE BOOK. quizzes online with multiple tries. Only a midterm and final. Guru helped a lot for exams. You will never be bored because he is so funny and hot as hell
My favorite professor here. I've had him for 2 separate classes and he's the man. You have to go to class and take notes and participate but thats the easiest part. I recomend taking his classes, and I plan on taking every class he has to offer. Overall excellent professor
This professor is a lier and a joke. He totally pays this website too or is the only one who posts on this. None of his horrible reviews ever get posted because I have asked others how he is so highly rated and they say they leave bad reviews which never get posted. LMAO also he is def not hot
Gray has a unique style that can appeal to the masses. His passion and knowledge pours into his lectures. I looked forwarded to his classes as he had the rare ability bring the subject matter to life. As a future educator I only hope to have the impact he has had on me and many other students. Was lucky to have him over the years.
Awesome guy, really cares for his students. His lectures can be boring and his notes are unclear at times but just make sure you pay attention to what he says. He only gives two tests, a midterm and a final. You will get a good grade as long as you do the weekly learn smart assignments.
Dr. Gray has an amazing personality and is a great professor. BUT his work is complete HELL. I had to pay $215 (!!!!!) for his textbook that we did not use ONCE, JUST for the access code. And the online assignments each took me over 4+ hours, tedious and SO much work to complete with a lot of reading. Exams were super hard too. Good prof but hard
One of the best professors I've had at my years at East Stroudsburg! He makes history very interesting. His tests were hard but if you pay attention in class and read you will be fine
Class is easy if you pay attention. Attendance isnt required but he shares a lot during lectures that arent on powerpoint. As for Dr Gray, he likes to make jokes sometimes that aren't funny at all but other than that he's not bad. cant get past buying the access code, assignments aren't posted at the same time. movies shown in class are on tests
Dr. Gray is a cool dude. I had him for U.S history to 1877 and I enjoyed it. He describes himself as a tour guide throughout the course, and he really play a up to it - he really got into his lecture on Andrew Jackson. My one complaint is that we barely finished the Civil War, and we flew through all the major battles. Never touched Reconstruction.
I had a great experience with Dr. Gray. I took HIST141 Online, and was warned that he makes online classes harder because he values being in class so much. We did have weekly discussion posts and homework as well as three essays and a final project, but we did not have any tests. I found this work helped me understand the class more and enjoy it.
I took his class online and thought it was going to be very difficult but he is a very fair grader with the essays. I actually got a 99 in this class and never thought I would ever do this good in a history class. He is always there in his office hours when you need help as well. Definitely recommend taking him online or even in person!
Hes really nice but make sure you pay attention in class! He is willing to help you out as well and he does a great job with in class learning activities.
Despite the great reviews, reviews which I fell for when I signed up for this class, Dr. Gray is not a great professor. He is an amazing person and very easy to talk to but he had no idea how to operate this class. We hardly had notes, hardly had assignments, which sounds great but not when you pay for a class. No book and dumb random assignments.
He is a really good professor. Sometimes his lectures are all over the place, but overall he is a great professor. Just listen to the lecture. His exams are challenging, but just study and you will do fine. He's definitely full of himself, but he is a great guy. If you're taking his survey course you should get a B or better. Just pay attention!!!!
AWFUL professor. I have him for an online class right now. His feedback is completely rude and NOT helpful. Avoid this professor if you can. Like calm down dude... its a gen ed at ESU, not harvard. ESU obviously doesn't listen to the students if professors like him are still teaching here
I would highly recommend taking Dr. Gray for a history class. He is approachable, fair, and prepares you for your future by giving constructive criticism and guidance in his course. I liked how he gave feedback on our discussion posts and papers, as it is meant to help us learn from our mistakes and in turn, produce better pieces of writing.
Makes you get a 3 different text books. One being his own book that he wrote. It seems unnecessary to have all them waste of money.
Be wary of the good reviews. He wasn't ready for an online class; he's very unresponsive and gives out too much work for his lack of communication, opens assignments very late and randomly closes them before the due date. It's an 100 level class but he treats it like a 300 level.
Dr. Gray's Online History class is fair while also simultaneously challenging. You can not simply coast in this class and expect to pass however if you sit down and do the work, it is quite simple to pass the class. However, even if you are struggling in class, he is incredibly approachable and willing to work with you to make sure you succeed.
Gray is an amazing professor! He might come off cold at first, but once you get to know him, he's a great guy. If you're use to a structured class though, his classes can be disorganized and assignments at random than thought out, but his knowledge makes up for his lack of preparedness. He's always willing to help as long as you show effort.
I took Dr. Gray for US History to 1877 online, I thought it was gonna be an easy A but I was completely wrong. He makes you work for your grade and is a pretty hard grader as well. However, he gives you really good feedback to help you with your other papers. Weekly Discussion Questions that you must read for, three papers, and a project.
Dr. Gray is the best history professor in the department I think, if your major is history that is. Classes are very informative & he has you do creative assignments. For Frontier History, we had to cook a dish and do a weekly frontier journal, very easy grade. The only downside is he's not well organized, but his classes are great.
Professor Gray has been my favorite professor so far @ ESU! Very informal, chill guy, very insightful & helpful legit all you could ask for! There are no papers to write & no tests to take! Every 2 weeks you have 2 2-3 page outlines due for a debate to have in class, do your hw, & participate in class & youll get an A no doubt!
Dr. Gray is the BEST prof in the History Department. He's always available to help and will go out of his way. Only neg I would say is that you are graded on very few things, which makes it really nervous to do good on the very little stuff he gives you. If you do your best though, Gray is a solid choice.
There's so much reading... this was the worst choice for a history elective. I spent more time working on this class than the actual classes in need for my major. And he'll say things like "Prove to me that you read both articles", like what does that even mean? What do you want to expand on? Like make it make sense.
Professor Gray's American history class was enjoyable. He separates you into groups by majors. You have weekly learn smarts and we did a total of 3 projects. He gives you creative liberty on your projects they have to be based on your major and the time frame we learn in class.
As a person, he's okay, but his teaching style has changed. Your grade consists of a group project, but he will make you all have a final if majority of groups aren't doing well. He loves playing devil's advocate too often till your head explodes. Assignments are often created out of pure whim, no set structure. very unorganized, but you can't be.
He is very unprofessional and unorganized. He makes constant fun of a few of his students and overall I didn't learn much in this course.
This professor is extremely unorganized and does not teach the lessons well. He reads off of slideshows that are messy and hard to understand. The group projects take up most of the class time and are worth 50% of the grade.
Gray is one of the GOATs in the History Dept, I rank him up there with Dr Dudley. Speaking on his teaching skills and ability he is fair and talented once you understand what he wants from you. I have had him for other classes besides Hist 495 and in those if you simply give what he asks for you'll do fine. Quick to respond and oft Avalible to meet
