Needs to quit being so hostile!
worst teacheri have ever took he is clairly not a teacher and is barely to speak english.i confused how he got the jop, worst teacher that could possible teach a class. he needs to quit.
extremely helpful!
Not bad, I guess. His accent can get in the way of his teaching and, at times, he can be a little impatient with students who don't quite grasp the material. But all in all, he's a pretty good guy. And funny too.
He is a nice person. Very understanding! He is willing to work. When ever you have a problem go to office and talk to him. He is extremely helpful.
His Ok..
I took the hybrid class so obviously it's up to the student to teach himself...but this guy was SO unhelpful. I emailed him twice with questions and his answer is "just follow the directions"...well duh, i tried that & it didn't work, that's why i'm asking you! He can't speak english & doesn't understand student questions. Don't take his class.
He is a very nice guy. He knows his stuff. I took the Hybrid class so it's not really right for me to comment on his teaching really because you are supose to teach yourself anyway. Yes, his English isn't very good, hopefully with time that will change though. His exams are hard! He tells you up front that this is one of the hardest classes. Fair
At first I was very intimidated by this class. He expects a lot from his students. Don't expect any lecture at all, so it is a lot of reading. That said, he was will to help clarify the subjects and gave a great practice test. If you could pass the practice test you did fine in the class.
I TOOK FOUR CHEMISTRY CLASSES FROM HAILU AND HE HAS BEEN THE BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD. HE IS VERY HELPFULL AND PREPARED.
I took four chemistry clases form Hailu. he is the best teacher I ever met. he is very helpfull and prepared. I never had low grade from him.
Best Professor EVER. I've hated science all my life...until now. It's amazing what a difference a good professor makes!
Michael Hailu is probably one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. I first signed up for his class only because I needed the transfer credit. Now I find myself each quarter waiting to get into a class that I know he is teaching. He has truly made me eager to learn more and push myself harder than any other prof.
Excellent professor
I have had Prof Hailu for 4 classes, and it has been a pleasure. I hope to have him in the future for further Chemistry classes. He challenges you to do your very best.
wonderfull teacher!!! I took three chemistry clases from macheal halu, he is supper professor, he can change your world of chemistry very easy.
He dose not understand Organic Chemistry and he cannot say what he wants to say in English. I had hard time to understand him and so as my classmates. He is the worst teacher in the world.
one of the best teachers that you are going to have...explains the material very well and he is very helpfull...
Organic chemistry with NEVER be easy. If you attend class, read the handout notes, read the book, do the assigned problems every day, and go to him with any questions you have, you will do well. At times he is hard to understand but if you ask him to re-explain or repronounce something he is more than happy to do so. Take his class.
His classes are challenging, but fair. To do well, study the assigned homework material, come to lab and do the pre-lab before hand. He is very willing to help any student that needs or wants it. The turn around time for receiving grades is nearly unrivaled. I recommend his class, especially for people interested in taking distance courses.
Took hybrid class. Professor is not really good at teaching the material. Loses his temper easily. BUT is a nice person, very flexible and wants everyone to succeed. I will take another course from him. Expectations are clear. Grading is fair.
Pro. Hailu enjoys chemistry and will do his best to instill this same passion in you! Chem171 was challenging and difficult, but he will help you to understand it.
I couldn't recommend a finer teacher. He is very passionate and well informed about the subject. Willing to work with the students to help them appreciate Chemistry and succeed!
his English is very poor. How did he get his degree from U.S.
Pooooor English!! Do not know what he's talking about. If you complaint about him, then you will give you a good grade because he is afraid of you to report it to the Chair or Dean of the department. You can not learn any Organic Chemistry couses from him. But you want to get a good grade, go to the Chair. Hailu will back down.
EVERYTHING THEY SAID PREVIOUSLY IS VERY TRUE, UNFORTUNATELY. HE SCOLDS YOU WHEN YOU DON'T DO SOMETHING CORRECTLY OR ASK A QUESTION. I AM AN ADULT LEARNER AND HE MADE ME FEEL LIKE A TEENAGER BEING REPRIMANDED. TRY TO GET ANOTHER TEACHER IF YOU CAN. I DO NOTICE THAT HE DOES TRY TO HELP WHEN YOU ASK HIM. BUT EVERYONE IS SCARED TO ASK ?'S !
I finished the course!! I received a C. I wanted at least a B. I studied so much and still received a low grade on the emams. He would give study guides for the exams but on the exam he would word the questions in confusing ways. Still a great teacher, loved the labs, he was willing to help.
I loved him! He presents info in a clear, simple manner. Class attendance is crucial, so is paying close attention. He moves fast though, so come to class prepared!
Attendance is not mandatory, but you should always try to go so you can stay on top of the work. He is always around to help you. It is true that some are afraid to ask Q's. But once you show that you are interested in learning he will be more than happy to help you. He is very nice. You should take him.
WONDERFUL TEACHER! Prof. Hailu made it possible for me to do well in Chem113. He made it fun, challenging and rewarding. In the future I can only hope for such an excellent instructor. He is strict on attendance and encourages class participation. His teaching and testing methods go hand in hand. He truly cares about his students and their success.
Hard to understand because of race but told us the first day if u don't understand him just ask him to repeat what he said and he did with no problem. Test were easy 50 mult. chose? and he will take a step by step approch with u
Michael was such a great teacher. He was very helpful and made sure we all understood the material. We still see him on campus and he remembers us and says hello every time.
Michael is a wonderful teacher. He is very helpful and made chem interesting and fun. He helps you outside of the class if you have problems with the material. He is one of the best insructors that we've had at columbus state. Should definatly take him for chem 113!
I like the proffesor teaching methodology. The notes he gives out is clear and precise. He illustrate hard chemistry topic by adding some good relevent example which make it easy to grasp.
Dr. Hailu is a great Professor of Chemistry. He also wrote the textbook for the Chem. 100 class. His lectures and labs are clear and he gives great examples in class to help. He has a review sheet before every test and goes over it. His understanding of Chem. helps the layperson understand all the difficult information. I highly reccommend.
Do NOT take the hybrid class! It was a nightmare. Professor chewed everyone out the first day for not printing out the welcome letter! Yes, prof is helpful (if you are a serious student) and tests are fair, but don't assume you can get away with not doing the work. He's definitely a prof for mature adults.
Before taking Chem100 with Michael, I was dreading chemistry. I love chemistry now. Michael made learning the information easy. He is clear in his explanations and answers your questions to your satisfaction. He was available for one-to-one additional help, if it was needed. I will be taking General Chemistry classes with him in the future.
Michael is a GREAT instructor! He is very patient and makes class fun. Don't miss the lectures, study his notes and study guides and you will do well. He is great about offering help! I wish I could have Michael for all my chem classes!
I hadn't had Chemistry since high school, and he made it really fun to learn. He expects alot out of you, but he helps you learn and get what you are doing. He wrote the text book, so he really knows what he is talking about. He's really nice and I really looked forward to going to class everyday!
I had him for Chemistry 171, 172 and 173. Very knowledgeable professor who's accent can be difficult to understand at times. Great guy who will give you all of the extra help you need to grasp the material. Very funny guy with a great sense of humor. He really does want his students to succeed and it shows. Consummate professional.
He is very knowledgeable in the subject he teaches. He is very personable with the students and if you make and effort to understand then he will help you understand.
Michael is a great professor! He wants every student to pass his class and he makes an effort to help you earn an easy A. He jokes around a lot and it is funny, but you cant take it personal. He does his lectures right from the book so BUY THE BOOK! You should start a study group with people from your class..very helpful.
Professor Hailu is the best hands down! His lectures are easy to understand and he provides excellent study guides. So as long as you GO to class - you'll PASS the class. But, the best quality about Professor Hailu is that he's passionate about Chemistry and that makes his class FUN! He's a happy fellow. And I'm happy to have been his student.
Hailu is a great teacher, very intersting fellow, jokes a lot in class the best teacher i had since High school.
All i can say abt Dr Hailu is he is a nice teacher but his teaching method is little different from others. One should read the book carefully to get a good grade. Thats all i can advice my friends.
Prof. Hailu is really easy. All you need to do is complaint on the grade, then he will change your grade to higher one. Trust me it will work. He will degrade the quality of the education, and that's what I hate.
It's a little hard to rate the professor, as I didn't interact with him at all. It's been six years since I've taken chemistry but the class was still pretty easy. I printed out the lecture notes from each chapter and read them instead of the book. Didn't open the book once. do well on the homework and you'll do well on the tests.
He made me feel very uncomfortable in lab. He has a thick foreign accent and was difficult to understand. He gave me a 7/15 in "Recitation" points for which the expectations/guidelines were not made clear in the syllabus. I showed up to every lab on time and participated in each lab and got good grades in lab. Shows favoritism with hints of racist.
Hands-down the worst professor I've had. I hate saying that, but it's true. He does a terrible job at explaining problems; he stands in the way of the board when he's half-explaining a problem. We constantly have to ask questions, ask him to explain how he got a seemingly random number, ask him to move away from the board. CHOOSE A DIFFERENT PROF!
Best professor Ive ever had really caring loves to teach and care so much about his students you even can come to his office hours and hell even stay hours with you after class to make sure you get the material
This man is so funny. Yes he has a very thick accent but you can understand what he is talking about, he is very straight forward. His exams are based on the power points he has up, a couple homework which have the answers and the practice exam he gives out. Super smiley and funny. Makes a lot of correlations to daily life. Take him.
He's a very easy chemistry prof. All your exams are exact problems from HW's. If chem is a class you genuinely enjoy and you're looking for a prof that will go in detail on topics, he may not be for you. As someone terrible in chem, he makes the class simple and easy to pass, and he's very laid back.
Very easy grader. Exams are very close to the practice exams. Labs are quick and easy. Micheal is a very friendly professor. He likes to crack jokes, make the class a little more entertaining than it actually is. And for someone who doesnt like chemistry at all, this class wasnt too bad at all.
Easy grader. He'll pick on you here and there, nothing harsh. Exams are comprised of practice exams, powerpoint questions, and rarely from the text book. He hardly teaches, instead he just explains. It was common for him to just give us the prelab answers if he deemed the lab too hard. Overall, decent professor.
Easy class. If you take online, online students that are able to teach themselves will be successful. 50% of the class dropped because of poor study habits. I took the final with 5 weeks left of class and ended up with a 94 in the class. This class is easy if you know how to study.
Doesn't teach. Just does problems on the board, comes up with the answer, doesn't explain how he got the answer then says "easy, right?" or "okay, good." and moves on. Thick accent + mumbles a lot. If you can teach yourself, go for it. If you need explanations, find another professor. P.S. I haven't taken Chem in 8 years.
Has a thick accent. Very difficult to understand. Teaches quickly and doesnt check for understanding. I dont recommend taking him if you cant teach yourself.
Thick accent, barely understand him 70% of the time. Doesn't teach. Does all the problems himself on the board - which he's in the way of 24/7 - then moves on. Tells you to ask questions, but mocks you when you do. I asked a question once and he said "seriously? Wow." Be prepared to be your own teacher.
This proff is disorganized, thick accent and absolutely rude. Picks on you in class and calls you out. He just reads out his slides. I do not recommend.
This is the worst Professor Ive had since I started college at Columbus State. He was rude and disrespectful. His accent is super thick and you can barely understand what hes saying. He teaches to quickly and barely takes time to answer questions. Steer clear of this class.
Rushes out of class so hard to ask questions after class. Likes to pick on you in class but nothing serious. Unfortunately just read off of slides for COVID online class lectures. Make sure you do the homework, yellow slide problems and practice exam for the tests. His accent is tough, but he tells you what is on the exams at least which was nice.
Tries to be funny, but was too confrontational and critical of questions. He even called students to call them out in the online class to see why they left during lecture. Labs made no sense online, never went over homework or practice exams unless you asked specifically. Tons of typos in his exams were frustrating. Overall okay though. Use youtube
Very rude. He discourages questions, he only glosses over information and reads off the power points and there is no interactive homework or questions to help students understand calculations. I am personally trying to get out because I can't keep teaching myself.
Hey, guys so I usually wouldn't give a professor a poor grade but I just had a rough experience with him. I couldn't really understand anything he was saying. I feel that I didn't learn anything. Got all A's and a D on the final and my grade went from a high A to a low B. He doesn't like it when you ask questions or supposedly interrupts him.
Michael Hailu is a very difficult instructor. He doesn't like questions (he will ask if anyone has questions then be annoyed to need to repeat something), lectures are difficult and at times hard to understand, and grading is only the tests and labs. He WILL give zeros for labs you attended, so screenshot proof of attendance!!! Very frustrating.
overall terrible and beyond disresceptful teacher. he is very hard to talk to, accuses and yells at you 50% of the time. he only takes assignments and tests through email. he shouldn't be teaching. AVOID HIM.
HORRIBLE! Stay away from this professor. Terrible experience.
He was helpless and careless. So hard to understand his language and instructions.
The WORST prof I've had at CSCC, and I had Blaha for Chem I. He REFUSES to record lectures, so we don't have the option to go back and listen if we miss a day (I haven't missed any). PowerPoints are examples directly from the book, but he explains things so quickly that nobody understands it. Legit quote from him: "How do I know this? I just know."
He was an okay professor, but was not very good at explaining things. He sometimes would get mad when asked to explain things and would tell us to just read and that it shouldn't be that confusing. I finished with an A, but you have to teach yourself all of the material. If I had the choice again, I wouldn't go with him.
This professor is not really reliable. He does not answers emails. When you ask questions, he does not seem to understand you even when you ask the question in different ways. He is also extremely rude when you ask questions. He does not even want you to go to tutoring! Tutors said that his answers and explanations are wrong.
The only hilarious thing about him is how bad of a teacher he is. He has never once explained a topic, he reads the slides and his reasoning for why something is the way it is usually go along the lines of "because I know it is that way". The only way you turn in labs and exams is through email and he rarely looks through his email to find them.
The worst professor I've ever had. Rushes through lecture just reading off of slides and doesn't go in depth with lectures. He doesn't really teach at all. If you want an easy pass chem class this is for you but if you actually want to learn something stay away.
Heavy accent was hard to understand. Reads straight off a slide and doesn't actually teach. Exams are super hard with questions made to trick you even if you understand the material and make up the majority of your grade (the class average for Exam 3 was 21%). I've always been an A student but this class killed my GPA. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Professor Hailu means well. However, he is not the best professor in my opinion. His lectures are rushed and good luck trying to get him to explain something to you. The only points available in his class are labs and exams. With that being said there is no homework. No homework= (no points/practice). To do good you must be able to teach yourself.
get ready to teach yourself and use tutoring as much as possible. optional homework and practice exams: USE THEM! they are there to help you prepare for his exams that looks very very similar. he means well, he cares but does not do the best teaching and can be hard to understand. take him in person, be understanding, show you care and you willpass
Greatest professor of all time
Just not a good professor. He will tell you that the exam will be exactly like the practice exam. It's not true. The questions will be very different on the exam, covering things that none of the practice problems covered. The only reason I got an A was because I read the textbook thoroughly. It was a lot more work than it should have been.
Hailu does not show up to class or labs regualrly, end class before subjects are covered. Doesn't answer emails or phone calls and tells you he doesn't so don't bother. Angry and demening toward students. Would never take him again. You will learn nothing in his class.
I will prefer to take Han class than hailu, if you ask him about something he will said "this is easy I don't know why you don't understaned it", he doesn't know how to explain very well. Also, he treated us like children. he is a little bit rude. if you have choice don't take his class
Very short tempered and kind of rude. Puts students on blast for asking simple questions and tells them to "get a tutor." Goes through the lecture material really fast and I had to rely on Chegg and Youtube to teach me throughout the entire semester. I thankfully ended with a decent grade.
Worst professor I had in my whole life
He doesn't even seem like he understands what he's talking about. huge ego and gets annoyed when a student asks a question, and when he does, he doesn't even explain well and always says the same thing "should've studied" as if you could understand his constant incomplete sentences during lectures. He's never specific, all he says is "this"&"that"
i would recomend any other teacher tbh. extremely thick accent and super hard to understand. will not take time to make sure you understand. this class killed my confidence/interest in chem, he makes you feel dumb, better do well on tests because theres barely any homework. only reason i got an A is he hard curved grades due to many people failing
Hailu is incredibly hard to understand. If you ask him to repeat something he gets very annoyed because it seems in his eyes once he has said it once you should automatically know the material. If you ask him to explain why something is the way it is he will say "because" and go into no further detail. Save your time and money!!!
Michael Hailu is not very good at his job. When he speaks he doesn't make sense and when you ask questions he gets angry. He also kicked me out of lab when I used the bathroom without asking. I switched out and I recommend you do the same.
Thick accent, I don't know anything more about Chemistry after this class. Labs are practically given to you, the homework and practice exams almost mirror the tests, do them. He doesn't explain things well, will blast certain students but entertained me. Meant well, but had to learn everything just enough to pass from Youtube. Bit of an attitude.
Dr. Hailu is incredibly difficult to understand, has a grumpy attitude, and is a poor teacher. His lectures consisted of him skipping half of the slides and mumbling through the other half. We never learned the underlying concepts or terms of chemistry he would simply throw formulas on the board and expect us to know how to solve them after one try
I thought he was lowkey funny and so random at times. His class is fairly not to bad, he does give the lab answer to you sometimes. HW, practice tests are just like the exam; if you do them, you'll be fine. Additionally, make sure to arrive at labs on time; he dislikes it when you arrive five minutes late.
He's probably an good person, but not professor. In lectures, he doesn't explain things at all, just reads off the slides; also doesn't answer questions well. I literally taught myself the entire course (Youtube!); at the end, I didn't even attend lectures, only labs and tests. The hw/practice (not graded) are just examples of the tests (do them!).
This professor is very laid back. He wants what's best for his students. He understands that we have a life outside of school. I recommend him!!!
Horrible. Can't teach, goes off topic a lot, and holds a grudge. Practice exams and homework are nothing like the exam, and they are so long. I didn't struggle much with chemistry until I took his class, and I highly advise to stay away. Disorganized and is mean towards certain students. Doesn't care much about students, seems like he doesn't care.
Michael is a hilarious dude but an awful professor. If you show up and go to lab he'll pass you, but tests are DIFFICULT. Very few people in our class did incredibly well, thankfully I passed but I would not take a class taught by him again!
Professor is very laid back and understanding. He cares for his students and wants them to do well. The labs, practice exams and HWs are all easy points, just do them! Also, the practice exams and homework are very similar to the exams. Overall, I do recommend him but you will have to put in work outside of class to learn the material.
There's very few assignments, so make sure to do them all. Communicate with him, show up to every lab or lecture, and if you have to miss tell him that you'll be out and tell him why. He cares a lot, and the students who fight to pass, and fight to participate, he's very gracious towards. Be patient, ask questions, and stand your ground. He's great
