He is a very young and funny prof. His lectures are kind of boring and he reads off the slides which are completed for you. need the textbook for group project and to study for exams. make sure your put in a group that will put in effort. tutorial attendance counts. gives out marks for exam and midterm which seem hard but are fairly easy.
Best prof I've had at Ryerson so far, so happy he came here from Ottawa! He made a pretty dry class a lot more bearable. He was really approachable and caring. If you go to the lectures, he tells you the stuff that you won't be tested on and can ignore. One of the examples he gave in class ended up being on the exam.
Mike is very very nice and made a boring course bearable. There is a lot of group work but all content is common sense and super easy if you have a basic understanding. He is suppppper attractive which makes it A LOT easier to focus in lecture
He is such an amazing prof! His lectures are amazing and he will mention important things from his lecture for you to know for the midterm and final exam. There's so much I could say, but to keep it short I strongly recommend anyone to take his class!
He will mention in class when something really specific will be on the exam. He is a great prof with tons of energy and funny stories. 10/10 would take again.
Such a nice prof. So easy to talk to and gives good lectures. Knows his stuff really well. Loved him, would highly recommend!
Pretty hard to make Human Resources exciting, but Halinski is clearly passionate about what he teaches and tries his best to keep an 8AM class awake. Such an approachable and understanding guy, one of the friendliest profs I've had. He won't test you on textbook info that isn't mentioned on his slides so use his slides as a study guide!
Mike makes lectures fun and uses examples to help you understand the material better. Says you don't need the textbook, but it would definately help for exams. He's down to earth and very friendly and open to answering any questions. Overall a great prof, but somewhat of a tough grader. Would take again!
Mike is definitely in my top two of professors, he is always caring and understanding. if you feel like you didn't do well go see him and explain your point and he will be happy to give you help, his lectures are hilarious, informative, short and amazing to be in. his exams are very fair. doesn't need a textbook. Just an overall super awesome dude.
Hes one of the most entertaining professors Ive had in my 4 years of university. Hes very funny & makes boring material fun. One of the biggest downfall are his TAs. Theyre very hard markers & arent fair. I followed everything on the rubric to get an A on my essay but ended up with a B. Overall hes great, only if he marked his students work
First day and this guy is a gem. Take or else your sleepinnnnng
TBH he is a genuinely great guy, great person to have as a friend. His midterm was actually really hard, he says that the textbook is not required and that the slides are sufficient enough but they really aren't half the stuff on the midterm were based off the textbook stuff that he didn't include on the slides.
Dont get me wrong.. He's a really funny guy, that makes the class fun and engaging. However, his TA's mark ridiculously hard. He told us that there would be no need for the textbook. But the first assignment has a requirement of using the textbook, and the multiple choice portion of the exam was mainly based on the textbook.
Michael is an awesome prof! He really tries his best to make HR interesting with real world examples and funny stories. He cares about his students and is always willing to help and answer questions. Definitely take him if you have the chance!!
Michael definitely made class interesting by always relating concepts to real world examples. As far as grades go its really based on the TA that you get for your breakout, because they mark everything. He said that we should refer to the textbook last when studying however, a lot of the stuff on the midterm and final were from the text.
This class was really engaging and fun to go to. His exams are pretty tough, you need to study in order to pass the course. The seminar leader was boring and they have a tough marking style.
Mike was extremely accommodating and approachable, and responds to emails immediately. However, despite what he says, buy the text. You need it for the written assignment and to do well on the midterm and final exam. He provides old exams to help you study. The TAs mark everything, so attend the seminars - they count for participation marks.
Genuinely wants you to do well. Always available for help. Lectures are genuinely fun. HR is such a boring subject but he makes it interesting and I actually look forward to his class. Tests are tough, they come from the textbook company's test bank so some stuff is unrelated to lecture. Definitely tough to do 90+ in this course.
Amazing prof! I'm in my second year now and had a lecture with mike 6-8 on a wed. night and he made it tolerable. He was very engaging, clear when answering questions and very approachable. This course requires work because it has a decent amount of content but he makes it VERY manageable. If you have the chance you won't regret his class!
Great prof, he def cares about students and wants us to pass. Lectures are fun & he gives extra info & questions that aren't on the slides, so it's better to attend but not totally necessary. Midterm & final need a solid few days of studying if you want an A (textbook + slides). Make sure you do the weekly quizzes & go to seminars for easy marks.
He is a great prof, he explains everything very clearly using real life examples as well as information from the textbook. The textbook isn't mandatory but there is an access code needed to complete weekly quizzes. Had his class at 8am and still went because he makes it worth going! Super entertaining, nice and engaging class.
Mike is an AMAZING prof! He is extremely kind and genuinely cares about his students. The course material is pretty dry but he does a great job of making it fun and interesting for the class. He gives lots of hints for the exams and tells funny stories. We NEED more profs like him!!!!
Best prof I've had so far, and I am so glad I took his course. 8ams aren't a pain because he makes it fun and worth it. He also allows you to obtain bonus points. If you make an effort you will get a good grade; he is fair and always gives you the opportunity to do well. Even with coronavirus he managed to help us do well in the course.
Hands down my favourite prof of the semester. Although he had 8AM lectures, they were the ones I looked forward to the most! Very likeable and charming prof who makes all his lectures very entertaining! Also been very accomodating by extending deadlines because of COVID-19. Tutorials count for marks, 10 online quizzes, midterm and final assignment.
Micheal is an awesome professor. He has handled the covid-19 issue really well. He really cares about his students well being and mental state. Halinski's lectures are fun and engaging, as he wants his students to do well. The exams and assignments are really fair as he gives hints through out the lecture. Take him if you have a chance!!!
Great prof. Show up to every seminar to get marks that can easily boost your grade. Despite COVID-19 happening, he reweighted most of the course so that it wasn't difficult to keep up with the rest of the course. I would love to take him again
I really enjoyed his class. He made his lectures funny and interesting, which is amazing since I had his classes at 8am and usually I'm half asleep but I found myself staying awake and paying attention because he made even the more boring topics sound interesting. Pay attention to when he drops hints about what will be on the tests also .
Funniest prof at Ryerson. He tries really hard to make his classes fun and interesting, even if they're at 8 am. He genuinely wants you to do well and is really easy going. Midterm was a little tough but he lets you know some of the questions that are on it, so if you study you should be fine.
Michael is a rlly great prof. He makes me enjoy 8 am classes. He does not take the full 3 hour lecture and moves at a good pace. The weekly quizzes are really easy and you have 2 tries to complete the 5 questions. Attending your tutorial is an easy 10% and his midterm was decent. You need to really study to do well on the midterm.
All he does is tell us we don't need the textbook but you definitely do. He also talks bad about his sister a lot. Aggressively egotistical.
Actually the best. He is hilarious and always makes the impression he's your friend. Often he would host talent shows by giving out Amazon Cards. The seminar are mandatory and weekly. However, the TA's marking are so tough and you legit need to argue to improve your mark.
such a caring professor! he was always there for us when we needed him especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. his lectures were amazing, and his explanation of the materials was so good that it made the course seem like a breeze. You will love him!
Best Prof i've had. Super engaging and makes an 8am lecture enjoyable.
Best prof out there. If you can get a spot in his class, GET IT. Even though I fell asleep a few times in his 8 am classes, I still managed to get an A+. I never used the textbook once and I attended all the lectures and tutorials. All you need need is to study his slides and you're all set. I wish I could have him teach all my classes.
Hands down, best prof in ryerson! I had Michael Halinski at 8am but it literally did not feel like an 8am class. Super outgoing and knows how to engage with the class. As well, the class material is not complicated just make sure to look at the slides and read the textbook. 10/10 prof!!! def take him, you wont regret :)
Halinski is a really nice prof and really cares about his students. This course had no midterms or final tests. Just short bi-weekly quizzes and reflections. Attendance is not mandatory for lectures but you need to attend the TA led seminars for participation marks. How well you do in this course really comes down to how harsh your TA is.
Great fun prof. Only did MHR cause it is a required course but Halinski made it pretty fun and seminars with TA's were not bad. Very heavy group project (in which my back hurts from carrying the team) and TA's are pretty tough graders. Thought this would be an easy 4.3 but tougher grading than I thought.
Mike is a good HR prof even tho I barely went to lectures it was easy and he had a clear grading criteria. In class he used understandable examples and made it really fun. In seminars it was fun too just depends how hard TA marks. The group project was ok but I had a bad group member other than that great class! Will take Mike again in the future!
Super chill prof, really simple and straightforward lectures the bigger projects are the only things you need to actually try hard on
Easy course and respectable professor. The course outline is easy just make sure you keep your group members active and work more towards group projects. In this course, I would say, every single mark counts. Professor is nice and chill. Gives real-life examples to connect human resources with it. Surely recommended.
Though MHR is a course that is mostly common knowledge, Mike makes the course incredibly enjoyable. His teaching style and engagement in class was the reason many attended his lectures and seminars. Definitely the professor to take
Michael is an amazing professor. One of my favourites! His classes are super engaging and fun. Relates real-life experiences back to course content and is an overall GEM. 100% recommend taking 523 with him!
Mike is truly one of the best prof's at Ryerson! His lectures were always so funny and entertaining because he would relate the course material to real-life situations that University students can actually relate to! Such an amazing prof!
He was a great prof for MH523. Makes his lectures very easy to want to attend and pay attention. The class itself is not hard, participation is going to be a key to your success as well as attending class and tutorials. Overall the assignments were not hard and the exam was not hard as well
His lectures are so fun, he makes me want to attend 8am classes! He makes Human Resources such an interesting topic, as he connects it to the lives of university students. He is also very accommodating and is incredibly respectful! Makes lots of jokes and tells stories that are great and really liven up his class.
Great professor, even though theyre early moning lectures he's always super energetic and ready to teach. Engaging lectures and in fact the only lecture I've been attending.
I would take him again for sure! He is very caring, reasonable, and understanding. He does not mark assignments, TAs do; however, he will remark work if you don't agree with your mark. His lectures are easy to sit through and very clear. He has clear and helpful powerpoints and tries his best to keep class interesting. Would 100% recommend!
Literally the greatest. He is so accommodating, friendly, and will regrade assignments giving such amazing, clear feedback! My favourite prof yet!
Great Prof.
Dr. Halinski's cheerful, caring, organized, accommodating, and easily accessible thru emails. He's always open for discussions and questions, would remark ur assignments and gives clear feedbacks if you don't agree with what the TA gave. Exams are fair and nothing unexpected. Lectures are fun and relatable.
If you can take him, TAKE HIM. Professor Halinski was an absolute homie. He's understanding, clear in his teaching, and truly cares for his students.
TAKE THIS PROF!!!!!!!!! He is literally one of the best profs at Ryerson. I had him over the summer for CMHR523 and he was the best. He marks fairly, is super understanding and you can tell he cares a lot about his students!!! His marking is very fair. I'm so glad I had him as a prof he was the best!!!!!!!
best prof ever
I have never had a better professor than Halinski. He is so engaging and this is one of the only lectures I really look forward to going to. Try and get in his class if you can, it will make a world of difference.
Loved this professor! He is so funny! class goes by so fast! Learned a lot!! check out his youtube channel if you want to see for yourself how amazing he is! Highly recommend!
Best prof ever. He made learning the course content fun, and his lectures were always interesting. Tests were fair as well.
He's probably the best professor I had this year! As a first year this year was such a challenging year he was one of the only professor remembered that we were first years and treated us with such care. When the midterm average was not great he made changes in his lectures and asked us what were some issues we had, he truly cares for his students.
such a good prof
Great prof! His lectures are worth it to attend as he explains concepts well with real-life examples & provides hints for exams. Essay marking is strict by the TAs but prof offers to remark it. Study the slides for exams and grades will be adjusted if the class does poorly.
Michael is an awesome prof with an awesome supplementary YouTube channel that deserves way more hype. He actually cares abut his students which is hard to say about some other TMU profs
Hes a good prof for MHR523. you definitely want to take him, he's probably one of best profs out there
Very easygoing professor, but my only concern was the TA's he had teach for the seminars we had to attend. Be careful who you chose for your seminar leader because mine was quite unfair and not cooperative. I would have gotten an A but my TA marked me so unfairly compared to what my other peers got.
Very easy course, chill teacher. He try's to make lectures interesting, all the material is very easy if you pay attention. Slightly touches on metrics
Mr Halinski is the top G, literally. Dude's super chill, he posts midterm and final exams review and includes past questions from past years. Make sure you watch his Youtube videos, they are super helpful.
Really funny teacher I would definitely take another class with him
great prof but kind of a hard marker but if you watch his youtube videos you'll be fine
He is great. He is like the cool teacher you see in movies. The only bad thing I have to say is that his TA is wayyy too much of a hard marker. You can do amazing on an assignment and expect a 90 just for you to get a 60. The exams aren't bad if you put time and effort in but don't sleep on it. He is a great speaker who makes jokes. Recommend.
he is actually funny and entertaining, honestly the goat
Honestly, he is the best professor I have seen so far. Like, he is fantastic. I strongly recommend watching the Netflix series Suits before taking his lecture. He asks everything from the slides and believe me that is very easy. He actually cares for students and runs his own video lectures on YT. Not sure, but he is a hard marker on assignments.
amazing prof that is caring, and funny as hell. Exams are based on lecture slides. Honestly the highlight of my week. Absolute goat
During his online lectures mostly presented content from hand-made slides that he uses. there is a textbook for free, but he doesn't force you to read it. Nice guy, who replies to emails pretty quickly compared to other profs I had and he posts reviews for the midterm and final which are super helpful.
Halinski is a great professer. Really nice to the students and the course was overall really fun the learn because of him! Although the group project was a little annoying to do as we had to make a video.
Michael Halinski is hands down one of the best professors I have had. In class, he is funny yet professional and displays his information in a very digestible manner. I had a situation with regards to the final where I needed to get an ACR but I wasn't able to get the documentation in time and he allowed me to schedule a makeup. Amazing man!
The best teacher ive had In first year, the exam preperation videos are the best thing he could have done. Recommend
Such a great prof! I highly recommend all first years to take him for MHR 523. The course is broken down into a group assignment 20%, individual assignment 20% and two exams 30% each. He makes great YouTube videos that help his students prepare for any assessments. Best prof EVER!
I had him at 8 am and it was a class worth tuning into. Read the textbook if you can to prepare but if you don't it is no big deal because he provides the slides for the class so you can follow along. Very funny and willing to tell stories and create hypotheticals to help aid understanding. Overall a 10/10 professor.
Very funny prof that makes lectures engaging. Provides plenty of resources for help for exams on D2L and his YouTube channel. Not really much homework, just one individual and one group essay. Overall great laid back prof that teaches well. One of the best profs I've had.
sooo easy but group work so make sure u have a good group
absolute goat. His class is also easy, you just have to attend the lectures and that's all you need for the exams. Just be careful of the group project and make sure you get placed in a group where the members do the work lol, I wasn't so lucky and it brought down my mark a little. But outside of that, his marking scheme is fair.
He is interactive and uses his own life as examples and makes the class more interesting
Most hilarious proff, sharing personal life examples. The class may seem easy, but the midterm and final are tricky, so focus on doing well in individual and grp assignments to ease the load. All exams are offline. Attendance isn't mandatory but the lectures are fun, so you'll enjoy them. It's not a hard course, but it's interesting for the future.
just take him, W prof 10/10
The prof is pretty good, very unaccommodating with moving exam times though. And Lucy (one of the TA's) is such a stickler - for our group assignment we never we got feedback for our mediocre grade and she stopped responding to all emails after marking that assignment... :( Just do the weekly quizzes on time and pay attention in class for exams.
Very engaging with the class. Weekly quizzes that can easily be AI'ed and are only 10% of your final grade. Very helpful and gives back good feedback for projects. Exam is all multiple choice and all content is accessible through D2L. Don't have to attend lectures bc all slides are provided beforehand. Always ended lectures an hour early.
Great Prof !! Super chill and funny. Make super to read the textbook and his youtube channel helps really well when studying for the midterm and exam.
The kindest professor ever he is very helpful and caring
It is very rare to find a professor that is caring and understandable. You can ask him many questions and he will never be annoyed or put you down for it I cry inside how kind he is fr
He's amazing
Micheal Halinksi is one of those professors you only have once and wish he was your prof for every other classes. He is caring, clear in what he wants from you and extremely helpful. I would definitely say he's the best prof in the entire university. His youtube videos help a lot and he isn't strict whatsoever.
The best professor I've ever seen, online lectures were very fun and still be able to learn from it. The final was non cumulative and got the grade back 2 hours after the exam???? Fastest grader ever. If u need to take HR make sure to take his class
GENUINELY THE BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD, if I could take him again I would w 0 hesitation, he is so funny and chill his yt vids r so helpful for exams, he has non-cumulative exams which r a life saver, his quizzes r easy, his assignments r easy but the TAs mark them so that might vary for everyone
best prof ive had in my entire time of uni!! literally gives u the answers to the exams in his youtube videos. he actually teaches, doesn't read off of slides and makes the lectures interactive and fun. group project wasn't the best, but the rest of the class work makes up for it.
Actually a goat take him fr
profs great and cool I recommend taking his class (side note, his exams were the only fun ones)
Best prof at tmu fr
bro is the goat
Probably the best prof ive had, super funny, super understanding. Lectures are straightforward and just follow them to do good on exams. Midterm and final were both in person but were a breeze, pretty easy. Only thing that might bring your grade down is individual and group assignment, just make sure you do both properly and choose a good group.
very chill and gets back to emails quickly is a little sassy teaches by relating things back to himself so prepare for a lot of personal stories
GOAT Professor
love love love professor halinski. hes the funniest guy ever. take him if you can!! the final was so easy people didn't even study and passed with 66+. midterm was a bit difficult but only because some answers were very similar to one another. hes awesome. take him if you can and you'll see why ;)
Professor Halinski really helped me understand Human Resources from a much better perspective. He made the material clear and the classes genuinely fun, even though the course was fully online. Honestly, I wish this class had been in person because I know it would have been even better. I would 100% recommend Halinski to anyone — he's the GOAT!
Professor Halinski is incredible!! He's very understanding, patient, and engaging in his lectures. It's very easy to do well in this course if you put effort into your assignments and keep up with the weekly quizzes. As for the midterm and final, his slides and YouTube videos carried me, so don't sleep on those!!
Michael made the lectures more interesting by putting things into a "Gen Z" perspective, using real examples that students relate to while connected to HR topics. The weekly quizzes and final exam were super easy. And the marking for the individual and group assignments was very fair. The only downside was the midterm was very tricky.
Ngl, one of the best profs to have, teaches the course straight-forward. Don't need the textbook to prep for midterms and finals, just look and understand the slides and watch his youtube videos. I will say that just pray for your TA & group members as they can make or break your grade (based on interpretation of rubric and professionalism)
VERY UNDERSTANDING as an HR prof should be. Funny guy and great lectures. Responds to emails very quickly. Some of his TAs are very hard markers though.
This man is hilarious bruh, this is one of the most relatable profs ever. TAKE HIM OVER ANY MHR PROF.
goat, actually cares about his students and what he's teaching, good at making lectures interesting (as interesting as an HR lecture can be), only downside is some of the midterm/exam questions are worded weirdly imo, like multiple answers might make enough sense to be correct, but if u study slides/textbook ur chilling, he reads these reviews too
Dr. Halinski is an awesome and caring prof who truly wants you to succeed. He explains concepts well and makes class enjoyable. Assignments can be tricky, so stay on top of them and keep in close contact with your TA—they're key to doing well. Dr. Halinski is supportive and understanding, making the course feel manageable and fair.
as a first year, he made his classes quite enjoyable
Dr. Halinski is an amazing and funny prof. Assessments and evaluations aren't bad. The exams are exactly is what is on his slides. Keep in mind that the TA's aren't helpful and they don't reply to emails. For the group project, CAREFULLY PICK WHO IS IN YOUR GROUP!!!! Write the exact consequences a member will face if they don't cooperate.
ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST I WOULD TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM EVERY DAY IF I COULD
He is fine shytt
Great prof. Both Exams are multiple choices, it was mid, no cheat sheat allowed so just prepare to remember all materials yourself. My score was avg A-to A before I received score for group report. All you have to do for this course is find good groupmates, try hard for individual assignment cuz Midterm and final are not gonna be too easy
Good professor overall. This is not a bird course! Weekly online quizzes are manageable. There is a group essay graded by a TA, but marked hard. Midterm and final questions can be 50/50 sometimes. Workload is reasonable. Lectures are engaging and informative.
this guy is the best professor I've ever had by far amazing teacher. so funny classes were so fun to go to
awesome prof. easy course. easy tests. just make sure you know the concepts decently well. Don't need to be a master at them. I slept through the classes just read the textbook and reviewed slides for a bit before the exams and did very well.
