Tends to grade a little easier for women and a little harder for the stuggling student.
Deducts too much for lab report resubmits. Acts tough but he's really a big 'ol teddy bear. This course is challenging because a lot of material must be learned not because that material is difficult to understand. Time Consuming!
Dr Hampton seems like he is a hard teacher but in the end everything works out. Just stick with it!! Dont drop. I did excellent in lab and got F's (30-60%) on pretty much every exam. It will work out. Lab is 40% and Class is 40%.
This prof will throw the book at you, but if you ask him for help, he will gladly offer assistance when he can (and sometimes, even when he can't). He tests tough, but he does prepare you for what's ahead in his class as well as others. A Very Good teacher, despite the tall jokes I get ;)
Great professor. You can tell he really enjoys what he is doing and has a ful understanding of the material. His tests are difficult but if you know exactly what's going on in class inside and out you'll be ok and the lab grades help balance lecture.
This guy dosen't make much sense. And if he says that "something is logical" (his fav saying) one more time I am going to die. I will tell you this DO NOT SKIP CLASS. He covers a lot of material at a fast pace. The tests also have a few tricks and NO CALCULATORS!!
tough class, tough teacher. no calculators, no extra credit. make sure you really have time (and brain space) to devote to this class. it will consume everything you do. read the book ahead of time, and go to SI and sarc sessions. try to find a study group.
Hampton is a nice guy. This is a difficult class, but he makes it 10X easier than anyone else. Every test is cumulative and calculators are not allowed, however, people don't realize that this neccesarily makes the class easier. I love this guy
I really am not impressed with this guy. He is not a good teacher. I got a B in his class by struggling on my own. I really don't suggest this guy. He has hard tests and your not allowed the use of a calculator. Chemistry should be fun. I am majoring in Chemistry and thought this guy was dumb.
dr hampton is fabulous! don't listen to all those people complaining.. they are just lazy. his class is very interesting. he gives very detailed notes. he wants to see his students succeed in his class and in life. definitely A+ professor.
I take offence at the easy on girls comment. I assure you he is not. I took the class, and he doesn't cut slack for anyone. He is a great teacher that is preparing his students for what is expected of them in the real world.
He is a good teacher and definitely challenges you on tests. Go to SARC or SI and yes, actually STUDY, attend all classes and you should be ok. He gives some EC and the quizzes help with your grade. He really wants you to succeed but wont put it on a golden platter. You need to earn your grade.
He is a really good teacher most of his test problems come right from his lecture notes and problems in the book. He also cares a lot about his students, if they understand whats going on, and their sucess in the class.
He is very hard and hardly ever has office hrs. when he does they are online. You can't use calculators, so only take his class if you are really good at math. Being good at math usually determines how well you will do, reguardless of how well you know the material.
I dont know who these people are who liked this man but they may just be insane. this is by far the hardest class that ive taken so far. he flys through the notes and doesnt allow a calculator on tests which make them almost impossible. its also very hard to get a hold of him if you have a question
Go to class, Go to SI, KEEP YOUR TEST the final is all the exact same questions as the old tests. Hes very nice and very helpful, if you need it
Hardest teacher i ever had. Not an easy class. He is very smart knows the material, however you have to kill yourself studying for his test. Test average are around 56. Be prepared to stay all night, read every page of book, memorize every detail. He knows how to teach but his test and very hard.
Dr. Hampton is incredibly smart, and a great professor. The class in itself is hard. He wants to make sure that everyone knows the material really well. Exams come mostly from notes. He is willing to help you out, so go speak to him.
Really good teacher, if you do the homework in the back of the book and pay attention in class you should do fine.
Dr. Hampton definately knows his stuff. The class is normally hard because its a weed out class. Be prepared to use no calculators. Its a tough fight, but in the end its all worth it :) Just push yourself as much as possible.
really really hard. i died in this class. i need to retake it, most people i kno dropped out. i studied like hell and it took up most of my time. the grades in my other classes suffered cuz i took other tough classes. almost lost my scholarship :( :( :(
Great teacher, you can tell he loves chemistry and you'll hear some stories youll never forget. Tests are VERY hard though, not once was the class avg. over 68. The final though makes up for it, it's questions off old tests that you're allowed to keep! Got a 96 on the final and went from a D to a B!
Hard class, i will need to retake it but he is very helpful. The subject is the hard part. If you have to take this class be prepared to put most of your study time into it. It is the most time consuming course I have ever taken. He will help you as much as you need as long as you make an effort.Just be prepared to work really hard.
The class is very difficult, but Dr. Hampton is a great teacher! I can tell he really cares about his students as long as they care about the class. He's got a great sense of humor and I looked forward to going to his class. Even though I didn't pass (this class is SO unbelievably hard), and had to retake it this summer, Dr. Hampton is the best!
he might be nice and stuff, but MOST of the people who take this class usually get from a C-F. i didnt really like his grading policy, how the only thing that makes ur grade are 4 tests. so i recommend u to take another teacher. i dont think hes great, hes nice though, but thats not important. its more important if he knows how to teach
This was the hardest class I've taken, but it was worth it. Looking back, it was my favorite class and Dr. Hampton is my favorite professor, because he has a genuine interest in each student's success. Take his class; you'll thank yourself in the long run.
ummm i took hampton last semester and i got an F cuz the only input of grades were like 4 tests. he never gave any hmwk and extra credit. i have NO idea why hampton got good reviews. he was nice, but he didnt kno how to teach or grade. and 99% of the class failed, he still got good reviews cuz he was "nice". dont get fooled by that please..
I took 2045 over a 6 week period during a summer session. It was an intense 6 weeks but he made it fun. I wouldn't recommend taking this class in 6 weeks unless you absolutely have to. I took Baby Analyte a year or so later with him and really enjoyed this class. The labs were challenging and you really learn to budget time well.
DONT TAKE THIS HARD CLASS!!!!!!! u will regret it and i wont feel sorry for u. dont get fooled by the smiles, they put them there cuz hes "nice". HE CANT TEACH, HES HARD AND HAS NO MERCY!!!!!!!!!! (but hes nice..)
not good. cant teach anything. he just does a whole bunch of crap without explaining it well. has no mercy in grading. u have only 4 tests that determine ur destiny. no homework or extra credit that he could have used to boost grades. class avg in every test in an F. then lectures u for 1/2 hour on the bad grades
Dr. Hampton is a great teacher. Anyone who was complaining about how they failed doesn't belong in the biology department in the first place. He's a tough teacher, yea, but if you put in some time and can grasp concepts, you'll do fine. Got an A in the class without much outside work besides studying before the exam.
I had a 4.0 before this class. Be prepared to WORK, keep up with the reading and you might not be TOO confused during class, you basically need to teach yourself and get help from tutors or sarc or SI. He isn't very helpful, those who say he is never asked for help.
This class is ridiculously hard. No claculators allowed, only 2 minutes per question for the exams, only 4 grades (exams). I would understand if he wanted us to know the concepts, but I feel he intentially makes it much harder than it needs to be. If you take his class, be prepared to spend every minute of your time studying for this class.
Umm.. if you're having a hard time with CHEMISTRY ONE then perhaps you should change your major asap. Dr. Hampton must be one of the easiest science professors I've had (this is coming from a 3rd year Microbiology major). Not only is he easy, he's extremely nice. If you think Dr. Hampton is hard there is no way you're going to make it through..
Please disregard what the person below said about Hampton being VERY EASY... He said it himself,"(this is coming from a 3rd year Microbiology major)." Well guess what, im a freshman here and failed the first two tests along with most of the class. His second exam, the class average was %32...Now try saying that it was my fault i failed.. BAD Prof!
MOST RIDICULOUS CLASS, EVER. HE IS A SMART MAN, BUT CANNOT TEACH AT ALL! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
well he is really a tough professor i dedicate the majority of my spare time to this class, sarc and study groups.. he is not a horrible teacher but his test will kick you in the butt you need to make sure you never miss a class and are always paying attention i should have brought a tape recorder really difficult class think twice before you take
This class definitely takes some time and a lot of studying. If you attend class regularly and keep up with the reading and studying you'll be fine. He is a good professor and is just preparing us for upcoming tests. I am a first time freshman and I passed the class the first time.
For me an engineering math guy this class was a challenge. i should pass with a 70+ or Not with a NC I basically didnt put in the time needed to learn it as well as he wanted. TIME SPENT OUTSIDE OF CLASS = GRADE for all you who study the night be4 and get an A, screw you! lol
One of the best professors in his department, he won't let you sell yourself short by handing out grades like most. You'll have to work hard for your grade but if you are willing to work he's willing to help you. I suggest taking his courses if you are interested in any fields of chemistry.
Great teacher. Fought for a B. Study for the tests. If the class average is low enough he might offer E.C. but if you insult him (like some people did) he won't. Dedicate a lot of time to study for this class.
The exams were extremly difficult. Studying outside of class was more hours than all of my other classes combined, and I only managed to get a 72%.
This class is hard! The only grades come from 3 tests, 1 exam, and lab quizes (which equal to one test). I'm HOPING for a NC, because I didn't understand the material. He goes extremely fast over materials and half of the stuff he teaches in class isn't on the test or exam. Go to SI and study hard... but it still might be hard.
Exams were really difficult, especially the 2nd one which dealt with a lot of stoichiometry (which means mega calculations). Do read before class, it helps to reinforce the material, SI can be helpful...but most of all, do the questions in the book...a lotta material on the exams come from there.
I can tell he knows a lot about the subject, he is just one of those teachers who can't convey it to the students. The tests are hard, especially if you don't study. But, I have heard people studying for weeks before the test and still doing terribly. This is unfortunate because that's what determines practically your whole grade! Good luck!
One of the harder classes ive taken. The material is hard enough, yet he still tries to trick you by the way he words questions. You must devote a large amount of time to studying and read ahead in the book. One good thing i can say..he allowed extra credit questions because of how low grades were. Going to lecture is a must. Overall very hard
His class was fun and he makes lectures interesting. Go to class because he gives you notes not from the book. For those who can't pass with Dr. Hampton probably should not be in the chemistry/science field because he is one of the easiest teachers. I didn't go to SI once and I still got an A.
Way to go for all those who passed! .I am an excellent chemitsry student but this class was the hardest I have ever taken. His notes would cover about 1/4 of the test.. so they are pretty useless. Go to SI and read the book because he is of no use for the tests. He Never prepared the class for any test. I walked into each test expecting the worst.
If you're not willing to/ dont have the time to put in the needed effort for this class, dont take it. He helps and is alot of help if you go to office hours, be willing to put in alot of time, I had calc while taking this class so I didnt do so hot.
You must put a lot of time into this class if you want an A. He is the hardest chemistry teacher so unless you are a chemistry major or trying to get into a professional school, go ahead and take someone else. Go to SI, SARC, read the chapters and do the questions in the back of the book and you will be fine. I pulled and A and I failed 1 test
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR AND MENTOR I EVER MET. HE IS TRULY A GREAT MAN, HE IS EXTREMELY SMART AND KNOWS HIS LECTURES BY HEART, ALSO HE DOES GREAT RESEARCH AND IS ALWAYS THERE TO GUIDE YOU. I TOOK HIS CLASS LAST YEAR AND HIS TEACHINGS STILL HELPED ME IN ORGANIC CHEM THIS SEMESTER. I LEARNED A LOT FROM HIM AND FROM HIS RESEARCH...
He was the worst professor I have ever had! I did everything to try to do good in this class and barely passed with a C. I went to SI 3 times a week plus SARC. I wouldn't recommend any one taking him and for all of you that are taking 2046 with him... good luck.. you couldn't pay me enough to do that!
I got a c and i was so happy he definatly showed me how to study this class is really difficult a lot of self study and read every bit of the test question he is really tricky which got me most of the time one bad thing is that the final is worth so much of your grade that you could be inbtwn a range of 3 diff. letter grades like me... B,C,NC
REDIculously HARD!!!! You need to go to every class + SARC if u want to TRY to pass!! Doesnt drop lowest test or curve like other teachers...Is a nice guy though in general, but his tests are 5x harder then any other teacher also...
Simply one of the best teachers at UCF, hands down. Very insightful and witty instructor.
When I took Chem 1 for the first time i took it with him, and his tests were so insanely hard i had to drop the class & took it again with another teacher who was MUCH EASIER.But now i have to take him for chem 2, whoever said they had him and easily passed with an "A" can you PLEASE tutor me? lol
He's a really awesome professor, only his tests and material are insanely hard. it is one of those classes that you must work for in order to get a good grade and you have to want it. if you want to learn, hes great
Do not take him. I repeat, do not take him.
Just... wow... Most difficult class and teacher i ever took. I knew the notes and lectures 100% but would fail tests cuz they looked nothing like what he taught. Questions pulled outta thin air. Had to withdraw half way through year. Taking Roberts this semester which actually tests on the information he teaches, unlike this whack job.
Not the easiest class but I pulled off an A. If I pulled off an A you can too.
Omg this class was so incredible difficult. Recently learned that the teacher is on probation and faculty are looking at his tests and notes due to the fail rate in his class being exponentially high. Taking roberts because hampton/swanson aren't even available as teachers anymore. Hampton taught his class like we already had previous chem classes.
evil guy. makes you think that your going to pass with at least a n/c but fails you instead. no slack.
THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS AND TO GET A PASSING GRADE YOU REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD. OVERALL HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR AND WILLING TO HELP IF YOU GO TO HIM. AND BECAREFUL ON THE TEST BECAUSE THEY ARE REALLY TRICKY AND MAKE SURE YOU DO THE SUGGESTED PROBLEMS BECAUSE THEY SHOW UP ON THE TESTS.
awesome teacher! the class is really hard but dr.hampton will do everything to help you if you just go to him for the help.
Take with caution if you must. Behind that smile, he shows no mercy. He's not that great of a teacher. Just because you have a Ph. D does not mean you can teach. I'm sorry but we pay for classes and I don't care if it's college, I'm not going to teach myself everything. I'm not paying (or scholarship) just for a grade.
If you didn't have him for CHM 2045 exactly the semester before your pretty much screwed. If there is anything you don't remember from chem I your screwed. If you have issues teaching yourself material this is not the professor for you.
Dr. Hampton takes a very stern approach to teaching large classes and doesn't put up with crap. But if you need help, he always makes time. I took him for a general chemistry class. Later, I retook Organic Chemistry II with him and he made everything fall into place. I truly appreciated his patience and his desire to help interested students.
this man should not be a teacher. while his lectures are informative, his tests are the worst torture devices ever created. he doesnt allow a calculator which makes finishing a test almost impossible. there is extra credit, but only because almost everyone fails his tests. if you have the option of taking another teacher do it
Do all the practice problems he suggests and glance over the notes and you will be fine on the tests. I had a 99 average going into the final. The final, however, was an entirely different story. My average went down NINE POINTS because of that grueling, three hour test without a calculator. Not cool.
I took him a year before for chem 2045 and HATED him but for 2046 was fine. You have to really adjust to how he does things. I worked really really hard and barely pulled off a B. He is very difficult but he makes you really learn the material. Although due to the tricky tests your grade doesn't always reflect how much you learned.
He is a great teacher who loves chemistry. I had him for chem 1 and got an A and had an A all of chem 2 but the final was really hard so I ended up with a B in the class. It's pretty easy to pass the class if you study a lot but getting an A is pretty difficult because there are a bunch of difficult calculation questions on the final
Teaches very well and you can do well in the class if you study his notes and pay attention to what he says.
Friendly person and good teacher. His extra credit is extremely helpful. Tests are somewhat challenging. Just make sure you understand the notes and use internet/book sources to further explain anything you don't understand. I got an A in chem I and II with him as the teacher.
very hard tests, no calculator, and have nothing to do with what we went over in class. Take another professor if available. Also he is never available to answer questions.
RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND NEVER LOOK BACK
lots of people droping his summer class....hhhhhm I wonder why!!!!
I don't understand why the good reviews. This is one of the worse teachers at ucf
I've heard he was in probation since too many of his students were failing/droping..wonder why. Well it seems he eased up for a while but now he is back to his old ways. Very bad prof. Stay away. Everyone knows chem 2 has a lot of calculations and he still doesn't allow ANY kind of calculators. He likes to embarase students in front of the class.
By far, the worst teacher at UCF. Doesn't allow to use calculators, thinking we are geniuses. Whatever he teaches in class is irrelevant and you must read the book to teach yourself. Don't recommend cuz he is hard and doesn't allow the use of a calculator THIS MORON!!!!!!
Hard class, no question of that. Dr. Hampton is not an easy teacher either (i.e. if you're looking for an easy A you're inthe wrong place). But you will learn a lot and the he is helpful if you ask him for help. But be carefuly of your grade. If you don't think it's right ask about it, he does make mistakes.
my only advise is RUUUUUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
I don't understand... why the good reviews? He is the worse teacher at UCF.
Dr. Hampton is so understanding. He decided this semester to allow the use of calculators. if you read all the passages he tells you to read, listen intently in class, go to tutoring (SI etc.), you should be able to pass pretty well. He gives extra credit homework assinments taht really help. Ask questions wherever unclear. thats the trick.
Makes his tests unresonably tricky, and although he let us use calculators after the 2nd test he made up for it by making the calculation problems that much harder. Hard class, but definatly not impossible to pass.
This is NOT an easy subject, so don't expect an easy A, but Hampton is by far the best profssor that teaches this class. When the class did poorly on a test, he gave us "addendums" that were purely extra credit!! This was the hardest I've ever worked for a B, but don't give up because it is worth it in the end. (GO TO SI!)
Dr. Hampton is a very good professor and I highly recommend taking him if you want to learn something. It is also a very hard class, but as long as you work hard then it'll be rewarding in the end (like any other class).
My advice, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! He makes everything 10x harder than it needs to be. Horrible! Horrible!
He is not an "easy A" professor - he teaches you what you need to know to master chem; he provided valuable info from outside our text; fair and decent tests; he's totally friendly and cool to talk with/get help from; gave some extra credit. Reading thoroughly-->Good grade. Take him if you care to learn about chemistry.
just for the record he is NOT A GOOD TEACHER. If you have to get help outside the classroom with SI then the theacher is not doing his job. seems like he always finds a way of messing with the students. Dont recomend him to anyone STAY AWAY
Dr. Hampton is an awesome teacher. You have to work hard and study harder. He is always willing to help and returns emails quickly. His lectures are good, but you will need to study on your own to do well. You may not like him now, but you'll be glad to have had him later on. He teaches to prepare students for furture classes.
A decent professor. Chem 2 isn't the most interesting subject matter, which makes it hard, but he does a great job of covering the material and writing tests that are comprehensive, but not impossible. Took the American Chemical Society exam for our final, and didn't do too bad. Grades tests within 12 hours of taking them, even with 250+ students.
amazing professor! his lecutres are very engaging and you will learn so much. The tests are difficult, but he gives all the info you need to study. He really cares about his students and is a very passionate teacher. he will prepare you for the tougher classes.
Hampton is one of the best chemistry teachers out there. The guy teaches honors. So if you really want to learn and be ready for Organic then take his class. He will not be the easiest A in the world, but he usually gives a good amount of extra credit. I got an A in Organic 1 partially thanks to him preparing us so well.
Great teacher, tough class, fair grader. How to study: Read the chapter before/after lecture. Do problems in chapters. Do homework, repeat homework. Start ahead of time. Don't slack. Just make a plan, stick to it, and you will get an A.
Wonderful class. Dr. Hampton is an extremely engaging professor. The tests are difficult (no calculator) but you will learn a great deal! I feel VERY prepared for my upcoming classes.
Very good professor, given the subject matter. I thought he was bad when I had him, but my Organic professor was 10 times worse! He gets you ready for later chemistry classes. It is NOT an easy class, but if you read, do homework, and study like you should, you'll be fine. I didn't, and ended up with a C.
Not an easy class, but very manageable. Very reasonable tests and homework. Highly recommended chemistry professor...possibly the best I've had so far.
Great professor ever!!! Great teaching skill. He really respects his students. Very fair in grading. Excellent!!!
He is the best lecture for general chemistry, if you wish to learn and not memorize. His test are only "tricky" as some people say because you need to understand the material not memorize. You must attend class or you will fail. A calculator is unneed since the numbers he give are really simple (i.e.9.8g of a material when GMW is 980) read the book
Took analytical chemistry with him over 15 years ago. Very difficult material, and several of the students were taking the class for the second time. I loved this class because of the professor. He was very clear, taught the concepts and the equations in a solid, easy to understand manner. What a great professor!
He's a nice and funny guy but made the class super confusing. He does practice problems in class and most of the time students have to correct him because there is always almost a mistake. He told us he hadn't taught in 6 years. Online quizzes, 5 exams, and a final. Exams are tough, 25 questions, multiple choice. Exam averages were always below 70.
He really is a great guy, super nice! He does try his best to make the class doable by dropping the lowest test and quiz grade. Tests are cumulative but fair. Not gonna lie, he is hard to follow in class and the material is hard! The practice problems he does in class get confusing. But he is always willing to answer questions . READ THE BOOK!!!
He was a very nice professor, but he was super confusing and the average were always in the 60's if not lower, he does not curve his exams, he just drops the lowest exam grade. He can get very confusing during class lectures which made it very hard to understand. If you can take a different professor.
Chem 2 is hard no matter who you take it with. However, if hes available take him. Hes awesome. I liked that he was sooooo understanding. Our test were 28 questions long but he grades it out of 25 thats heaven. Hes super smart and he knows how to teach. Like math and science are not my strong suit and i ended with an A... like he works miracles.
You can definitely pass but it's difficult content. 5 exams, 3 of which were 28 questions but only graded out of 25. 12 online quizzes which are not too difficult, and 2 get dropped, and you should definitely use these as study tools. Test averages were low. Read the book& do q's!! Try to take this with easy classes only and study consistently.
I really enjoyed his class and he was able to keep me interested and engaged. He is a really good professor but Chem 2 is not an easy subject. Read the book in addition to his notes and you will do fine (I ended up with an A). Drops 1 test and replaces the second lowest with the 5th test.
Hampton's lectures are confusing. You're better off skipping class, reading the book on your own & doing the end of chapter problems. He changed the syllabus multiple times throughout the semester because people were doing so poorly. 5 exams, lowest dropped, 2nd lowest dropped/replaced with exam 5, ACS final & top 10 online quizzes. READ THE BOOK!
Professor Hampton is ready to help. He more so wants you to understand everything than just memorize it. If you have a question go to his office hours. He does not want you to fail, STUDY!! And you will get an A. I would recommend going to every class and reading that book.
Professor Hampton is a very sweet guy. He gives a bunch of extra credit and curved the final. He also gave us online quizzes with unlimited time and sometimes those questions would be on the test. The class was still hard work for me. Read before lecture, do practice problems in the textbook, and pay attention. He wants you to memorize everything!
He's an awesome professor! One of the best I've ever had! Truly cares for students and is always very helpful during office hours. He's also very flexible and wants students to learn, so if he sees that the class is not doing well as a whole, he adjusts the way he teaches or goes over it again. Amazing professor. Take him!
Dr. Hampton is a very good professor and person. Coming to class was not a big deal because he kept his lectures interesting and engaging. Some of the tests were extremely difficult, but he helped us improve as we went through the class. He cares more that you understand the material and less about being a strict grader.
Dr. Hampton is a good guy. He will do his utmost to answer questions and teaches in a way that aims to engage your mind rather than inundate it with information. However, he tends to get rather... creative with his tests at times. If the class expresses this, he will modify his tests and teaching to better suit students' needs. Still, study HARD.
10/10 would recommend, this class will kick your butt but an A is very possible and he is a great professor. If you miss lectures you will not do well on the tests. There will be many topics discussed that are either not in the text or not focused on in the text. Focus on the lecture, the text, math problems, group problems, and vocab.
Single handedly one of the worst professor at UCF, took him his first semester teaching at UCF and he was so disorganized that every other quiz and test was dropped and still a huge chunk of the 450 student class was failing. At the end of the semester he used his day for the final to take two very hard exams on the same day. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
He is a great professor, he really cares about his students and tries his best to help out. He doesn't have powerpoints or anything, so going to lecture is very important because that is the only way to learn. He has clear grading criteria, HOWEVER he does not post the grades as often as I would have liked.
He teaches you concepts but test you on math. Usually will make a mistake while lecturing and the the next class have to correct himself. Test are math heavy, which is fine but in a 50 minute class, you don't have time to answer them all thoroughly.
I'm not one of those people that doesnt try then gives the teacher a bad review, I go to class & try to study hard but I hate the way this class is taught. Theres no powerpoints he just writes down whatever he feels like & homework is on a program called ALEKS which is 10x more annoying than pearson. Tests are difficult & math heavy.
I think he is a really nice professor and tries really hard to make the class interesting. However, you have a limited number of assignments and he uses ALEKS for homework. His exams are crazy hard, the questions on the exam don't correlate to the ones done in class. If you don't go to every class and you don't read the textbook you won't pass.
very considerate, pretty cool class. He likes to play the « only child » card. Aleks is the only thing i dont care for because we have to do topics were not learning for the full grade.
I got a 100 on an exam, a 66 on another and a 95 on Aleks. Didn't do too well on 2 exams. ( hard) 200 points you get through the final, which is entirely ACS. He drops one exam adds half of final grade in place of dropped exam. But guess what? Doesn't post grades and I'm about to get an F. (I felt not prepared for the final) <420 pts. is an F
He is honestly a nice guy who cares for his students and tries his best to make the class interesting. With that being said, he does not use powerpoints and writes down everything as he goes, so you can't go back and look for something if you missed it in class. His tests are extremely tough. He uses a system called ALEKS which is very difficult.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Will make tons of mistakes during lecture and his exams are ridiculously hard that do not go along w what he teaches in class. Oh and best part about him he assigns a crazy amount of alek homework (roughly 8 hours a week at least) DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Overall, Professor Hampton is a great guy. He does want everyone to love chemistry. Unfortunately, unless chemistry is second nature, this class won't be easy. I put in 6-7 hours of work per test and still failed them. There are the few students that would get 100's on the test, so curving was rare. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.
Absolute worst professor you can take for this class. I literally read every chapter, did all of his practice questions for homework & gave at least 2 weeks of preparation for his exams and still failed this class. No powerpoints, mediocre class notes which he'd make mistakes on, & insanely difficult exams makes this class near impossible.
Actually good teacher. You need to study a lot via doing practice problems, doing Hampton's examples, looking at past tests, etc.. to do well in his class. His notes are handwritten and can be hard to understand but he will go back and explain. Yes, notes are handwritten so attend class and pay attention.
Overall Hampton is a great professor that cares about his students and wants you to learn and appreciate the course without spoon feeding it to you. Show up to class, take Aleks seriously, do practice problems in the book and READ the chapter. After all his tests the ACS should be a blessing as long as you get the concepts.
Honestly, such a hard class but don't take it with him... Professor never posted grades and the lectures were super hard to follow and no additional resources were posted on web courses to study for exams. Even after studying all the problems, exams were hard to pass.
Prof. Hampton is great. Chem 2 is not an easy class, you have to work for the grade. Read the book and go to class- he was big on insisting his lectures are supplemental to reading the book. ALEKS wasnt bad. I also suggest maybe getting the ACS study guide & work with it throughout the semester so the final isnt intimidating (which had a curve).
Honestly the most iconic professor ever. I hate chemistry and was really dreading this class. Because of him, I got an A . He is so kind and considerate. He knows school is rough and he understands. The only complaint I would have is the way he does his notes and Aleks (awful for chem). Overall, great guy. Solid choice for chem 2
He's a very nice professor but I just didn't like how he taught the class. No powerpoints, notes are handwritten. Doesn't really prepare you for the ACS and no he doesn't curve it and was not told he was. Aleks helped me understand the concepts but it did not reflect alot of the exam questions and it took hours to complete. I would take him again.
Please save yourself the time and struggle. DO NOT take Chemistry with Hampton. He is a nice guy, but man is he a horrible professor. ALL notes are done by hand and he frequently makes mistakes. Does not do a good job explaining difficult concepts. Basically SELF study this whole course. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from him as possible
best chem professor at UCF. people get scared when he says he does not use powerpoints, he just talks to teach. but, he REALLY knows how to explain chemistry. he writes on a piece of paper- everything he writes, you write. gives extra credit, curves tests. if you hate chemistry, hes the prof you want. yes its hard but its because chem is hard.
I don't know why people hate him. He is amazing, if you need help seek help in his office hours. If you want the A take notes of the chapters and study the conceptual material WELL. Super nice man who gives plenty of chances when it comes to extra credit and curving tests. He is always willing to help you. Just do your part and put in the time.
He's a nice guy but honestly his tests belong somewhere in the theoretical field. All of his test questions are a minimum of three conversion factors or more. No PowerPoint and he only gave us a pdf of one sheet of paper from a past exam to study for the acs. He's one of those people that's just too way too advanced to tech undergrad.
Hampton is a really cool guy. He's super funny and he can make the hardest material seem pretty simple. His grading was pretty helpful too because if you fail a test, it won't spell the end of you. His tests can be difficult, but if you study in advance and avoid stupid mistakes, you will pass.
Deceivingly nice professor. He is very nice and helpful during his office hours but his tests are merciless. Lectures are difficult to follow and don't help at all in exams. If you choose him, become best friends with your text book because you'll need to know the small details. Avoid if you can.
Hampton is a WONDERFUL man. Would love him as a grandpa. He gives wonderful advice. I was failing his class, but if you go speak to him I promise you'll do better. His class is insanely hard and I cried basically every day. But I did pass the class thanks to his advice- which was to "Do the book problems." They seem annoying, but they help.
My failure in this class planted the seed of determination to try harder. And harder I tried. Got a B the second time. Not a hard class, that is if you know what's going on.
This class was probably one of the hardest courses I've taken thus far (I am a freshman). He is heavy on concepts and trends, so read the book and pay REALLY CLOSE ATTENTION to the trends. He is willing to help you pass, that is if you put in the work too. Don't come into this class expecting for it to be easy, because it won't.
Tests are overly hard and includes every specific of the chapter
Avoid taking this class with Hampton at all possible. Ended up trying to teach myself all the material because his lectures taught me nothing. his tests are extremely hard and the final is 40 questions from the ACS Im 10 questions from his lecture
READ THE BOOK. That is the only chance to pass this class. His tests are difficult and on top of that, your final is the ACS. ACS has nothing to do with what is being taught during the semester. Take another professor and hope they teach well because he does not help you at all.
The only chem professor I have had so far that is willing to help his students pass and is passionate of what he's talking about. He explains real life scenarios to help with concepts and shows visual explanations in class. Tests are VERY book heavy & highly recommend reading before coming to class! Gave 35 easy EC points and curved final a lot
Prof Hampton is extremely knowledgable and a pretty cool guy, but he's one of the worst professors I've ever had. He writes all of his notes in class and often makes mistakes when writing, working problems, etc. His tests are mostly from the text, but he twists the questions to trick you. Even the mount of EC he gave couldn't save my grade.
Hardest class ive ever taken. Tests are ridiculously hard. I would not recommend him.
Horrible, horrible time. No matter what I did I could not pass his exams. Used calculus to teach, said it "wasn't his problem" that most in the class had not taken it yet. To cover myself, I did fine in practise and had an A in the lab. Withdrew and am taking it at Valencia with an A at the moment. Stay far away if you value your GPA and confidence
This was the hardest class I've taken at UCF. I didn't pass a single test but managed to sneak by with a C. I went to every class, office hour and tutoring 2-3 times a week. His tests were absolutely awful and worth most your grade. Now I'm taking Orgo1 and I've gotten nothing but A's. Hes a good lecturer but definitely has to work on his tests.
This is a difficult class but not impossible. Read the book before class and write down everything he says/writes during lectures. Study those and understand HOW to do problems for the exams. Partial credit helped me a lot on the exams. Hampton wants you to really understand chemistry, so try to participate in class. An A is definitely possible.
Hampton goes above and beyond what's in the book, so make sure you write down EVERYTHING he says. Even if it's only mentioned for a couple seconds, it could be on a test. That being said, he understands that his lectures are hard and does offer LOTS of opportunities for EC. Put in the effort and it's possible to get an A or B. Best chem prof!
People talk too poorly of him when in reality he is not bad. You just have to learn how he teaches/gives exams. If you did very poorly in this class it's because you didn't give all your effort. You need to dedicate a lot of time to do well. SARC tutoring is the only way i passed. Pay attention in lecture/quizzes. He would sometimes recycle Q's.
Amazing prof, funny, cool & wants students to be successful. READ THE BOOK before class so you can follow along & take notes during lectures-- his lectures cover exactly what he'll put on the test. Our class test averages were A's/B's. An A is extremely possible if you put in the time; I slacked off & got a B. Definitely recommend taking Hampton.
I really enjoyed having him as my professor. His lectures are clear and he is very fair when it comes to partial credit. Make sure to read the textbook! (before each class is recommended, but make sure you at least read it before the tests) Getting an A in this class is not too hard, just read and come to class. Overall he is a very nice guy!
Dr. Hampton is an underrated professor! His lectures are a bit disorganized (he doesn't use powerpoint) but if you read up on the material prior to class, his lectures can be intriguing and helpful. Small online homework assignments are posted due before each class. He gives lots of partial credit on tests. Read the textbook and you'll do well!!
Dr. H is a really good lecturer and person, and that only shined through this semester with the switch to online. He spent 3 hours scanning in tests so we could look at them for the final. His tests though? Murderous. All open ended except for like 15 points multiple choice. He does give partial credit, but studying for them will take A LOT of time
Great professor. He puts a lot of effort into helping students do well. Exams are free response and not an easy A. Read ahead in the textbook before lecture to do well and study a lot for his exams. Also, he tests on specific examples discussed in class so take good notes. He's very willing to help students outside of class.
Dr. Hampton is the best! Hes a really nice guy, always willing to help, and truly wants his students to understand chemistry. Quizzes before each class help to make sure you dont fall behind, and everything on the tests is covered in class. He was a great choice for honors chem!
Dr. Hampton is a super chill man. quizzes were easy and most of them were dropped. Pay attention to the little quirky things he brings up; they can usually score you some points on an exam. Listen to the lectures and the exams aren't too bad
Dr. Hampton is a great guy and does care about his students. That being said, he has a unique teaching style that I wish I had been aware of prior to taking his class. He isnt the most organized in his way of explaining the material which caused me and many others to not understand. I cant tell you more than ten things I remember from his class.
Hampton has a different teaching style, but once you get used to it he's a great lecturer. MUST pay attention during lectures, many exam questions are similar to problems we do in class or little quirky things he mentions every now and then. Need to read textbook and do 5 question quiz before each class. Gives a few bonus points on exams.
Hampton is a great professor. Had him for chem 1 and 2. His lectures go into detail on the things he wants to you to know (sometimes he brings up funny things that aren't' in the textbook so attendance is very important in that regard). Makes sure you understand the material and makes the transition to orgo 1 super easy.
Although Dr. H is a great professor by personality, he tests on things that are very nuanced and advanced that are usually covered very slightly during lecture and not in the book. I am also a computer science major, and I don't need to know so much content that it will drown me. I would avoid him at all costs.
Very nice. Lecture style is unique and sometimes goes too fast so make sure you follow up with him about the subjects you didn't understand later. Exams only include things from lecture, no gotcha questions and good extra credit. Have to read textbook before every lecture and quiz on that so can be a little frustrating but can get an A if you study
he expects us to remember so many things (the periodic table, solubility rules, periodic trends, many formulas, etc). he once said that we're honors students so he EXPECTS us to know everything. you can definitely get a passing grade but this is probably one of the courses in your schedule that you put the MOST work in, would recommend someone else
Great man! He really was passionate about the subject and his students. Don't expect an A for nothing though, you should still watch lectures and do the homework/reading. Would love to take his class again!
I loved having Dr. Hampton for Chem 1, and I'm taking him again for Chem 2. Lectures can be slightly boring for certain materials, but all test questions come from information covered in class and in the textbook. Must read the textbook and take a quiz before each class, he grades on points rather than percentage, so doing well helps boost grade
Chemistry is hard. Plain and simple. However, I really appreciated Dr. Hampton's teaching style because he made sure you not only studied the material but knew it like the back of your hand. This class was a struggle at times, but I am so thankful for all the knowledge I gained from it. Highly recommend!
Dr. Hampton is a wonderful professor, just be prepared to put in the work for this class. 5 tests (write ins and multiple choice) and a final (multiple choice) not many other grades. It is slightly difficult to know what to study for the test, but there will not be anything on the test not covered. Always available for office hours and super nice.
Ive never understood chemistry better than with Dr. H! Textbook is more to solidify understanding, and tests are super fair and based mostly on lecture. He does ask about things mentioned briefly though, so pay attention! Tests are graded out of 100 but with 105 possible points so extra credit!
Definitely one of the best professors I've had so far at UCF! Took the time to meet with students whenever we needed extra help on test content. Great lecturer and explained the concepts in ways we could understand it well. Be sure to go to class because a lot of stuff on the test is based off of lecture.
He was super sweet and really liked lecturing us. His tests are open ended and partial credit helps you a LOT because he wants you to get a high grade. I didn't miss a single class because he doesn't post any of his notes or give study guides. Sometimes it was very confusing hard to stay focused. Take him if you know you're good at studying.
Amazing professor! He answered all questions I asked. He cares about his students and is very accessible. All the material on the exams is covered in class. His personality is great and they make his lectures enjoyable. Always remember that Dr. Hampton wants you to pass, so ask questions, be engaged, and take advantage of his accessibility.
Coming from someone who almost failed the class but passed in the end-he is a good prof but PAY ATTENTION in lecture, ask questions, seek help if you to understand, and do well on the quizzes as they act as a buffer. Lots of partial cred on exams! As someone who struggles with chem, I would recommend him but study and do not fall behind!
Dr. Hampton is an amazing professor, I really enjoyed being in his class. He covers almost exactly what will be on the tests in the lectures. There are graded quizzes before every class online but they're pretty easy if you read the textbook. Overall an amazing class.
Quizzes are open-book and help greatly with exams. Exams are mostly open-ended questions with partial credit and extra credit. Dr. Hampton did not post study guides for exams, but exam questions were modeled on problems discussed in class.
Very knowledgeable, keen to answer questions during lecture. If you have a decent chemistry background you will have to do a bit of studying, but easy A. Be careful if your background is lacking, you will have to spend more time to understand the material. Overall, cool professor.
Knowledgeable professor who genuinely enjoys teaching chemistry. I have learned so much from him and feel prepared for future chem classes. However, the grade for his class is 85% exams and questions are extremely specific to details he covered in lecture. He does not post lecture notes. Be prepared to read the textbook and study hard.
While Dr. Hampton is good at teaching and lecturing, his chem 2 class is unnecessarily difficult. Not sure if it was because it was honors but other professors for chem 2 had much easier exams with plenty of extra credit. Its doable but you will have an easier time with other professors.
Attendance not mandatory, but pretty much required to do well on exams. Pf. will cover general concepts well, but then add occasional specifics you are expected to know - so take good notes. If you want an A, read the topic of the class in the textbook before you get to class. Exams are fair, and align with practice problems he gives.
Lecture and tests followed the book. If you read the book and did the homework he assigned you would get an A. He pretty much told you exactly what you needed to know and if you did it you'd be okay very organized very structured very predictable always said he was available outside of class but never went to see him
I thought he was very clear get very clear assignments told you exactly what you needed to know if you didn't do what he said and he didn't do the assignments you would not get an A but if you genuinely understood and learned everything that he told you to get an A he followed the book and a clear syllabus and was available outside of class
