Not an easy teacher. Lets you rewrite you papers, however he is a hard grader. Makes A almost impossible. He is a real challenge. If your an english major, only then you should take him.

Mr. Harnett is such a great teacher and a really nice guy. While you do a lot of work and he is a very difficult grader, he wants you to do the very best you can and will work with you to acheive your goals. Take this professor!!

He is the best teacher I have ever had, but he's hard. But if you work hard you will learn to write better than you ever imagined. In addition, he is a great person and mentor for anybody. I was lucky to have him for three different classes.

This class was pretty hard. The difficulty was not due to the material, or the quizes, or even how much you have to read. It's because of his strict grading. You'll have fun in this class, but it's the most I've ever had to work for in an english class

Best human being on earth. This class was the best class i have had in GCC. The Difficulty of the class helped me become a better writer. Some people are content with getting an easy A, but if you want to really earn your A then take Harnett.

Harnett is hands down my favorite college professor of all time. This guy is the SHIZNAT...hell of a good b-ball player too. Difficult class, but one of the most enjoyable I've ever taken

Really hard grader but he knows his Simpsons trivia. He is really a great guy and I managed to get a B in summer school so he isn't all that difficult. He will work with you if you need it.

Extremely nice guy. Very helpful and all the exercises we do work towards honing analytical and writing skills. Very funny and dedicated in serving the students any way possible. A's on most the essays with few B's. The kind of teacher i will go back to visit.

One of my favorite teachers/English teachers. Very helpful-goes out of his way to help the student-needless to say, you need to do the work in order to get good grades but I think the amount is reasonable. Loved him.

Very flexible with deadlines and helpful. Honors course is challenging but he is a tremendous help. His knowledge/love for the simpsons brings an interesting flavor to the classroom.

Great teacher, everyone else posting is wrong. i email my essays or outlines and he gives me feedback within minutes. he tries to never sound negative since hes a motivational speaker also. for example write "room for good improvement" "ready for upgrade" good guy- do your readings ask him questions and your set.

Yes he is a hard grader but only because by now you should know how to write an essay but he is beyond helpful, funny, and is so so cute, but if youre having a hard time with him try a lower english level

OK, First of all: THIS IS COLLEGE! So if you don't know how to write, you are going to find his class difficult. GREAT TEACHER! He will teach you how to HOW to write, but you need to listen and put some effort in to it. Very Hard grader, but again, THIS IS COLLEGE! I got a "B" in 101 & an "A" in 102. I am a MUCH better writer because of Mr Harnett.

Simply put, the class is a waste of your time if you know how to write well enough to get an A in the class. If you fit that profile, you'll find the whole affair to be a boring exercise in BS, but Harnett is sort of endearing, and it is bearable. You'll lose any interest in psychology after endlessly analyzing the assigned texts.

Michael Harnett is the coolest teacher ever. He basically spells out exactly what you need to do to get an A on all your essays; not to mention he is very charismatic and animated in class. This dude will always be in his office to help you whenever you need it.

Easy A. Mr. H is very helpful and clear on the requirements for essays. He is very positive and you really do like to go to class. Never missed a day of the class and did all assignments. If you pay attention and care about the material then you already have the grade in the bag.=)

hes tough on grading. if you constantly get the same grade on all your papers dont give up and think theres no point bcuz in the end he looks to see if you have improved or not and he considers that when he gives you your final grade. very nice man. take him but remember you have to work for it.

THERE IS ALOT OF READING AND WRITING INVOLVED IN THIS CLASS, so you have to work hard and you have to put alot of time into it.

Very tough grader, you gotta revise a million times till you get an A. Yet, he is a good man, always there to help you with your essay. If you are not a good writer, take someone else. Most people were getting c's, a few B's and maybe 2 A's.

You have to work hard for a good grade. His character makes the work seem doable. Harnett has a wonderful heart. By far, my best professor. Never has a bad day. Always positive. Brightens up the day with his funny/cute comments. You will never regret taking him! Those who left negative comments were probably slackers who do not enjoy hardwork.

He's definitely a hard grader and assigns a lot of essays, but he gives you plenty of opportunities to revise until you finally get a B or an A. I do not recall him ever being frustrated or tired or angry. He is the embodiment of a helpful teacher, and will revise your essay as many times as you allow him to in the period he gives you to get a good grade. Hard working, passionate, and if you do the work you should get at least a B! he is awesome!

One of the greatest instructors I have had. He really made me like english and actually improve on my writing in which I only got A or A-. I had him for Eng and Hum and he is the best! He is always available to help you be your best and work on revising your work. He is funny and positive and it's contagious. he brightened my life and class was a blast. We went on great field trips too! A privilege if you can take him.

Dr. Harnett can answer any English question you throw at him, and if he can't he will sit there with you and find the answer. Extremely helpful. Works with you. Sometimes class can be a bit difficult because he uses different methods for different assignments.

Earned an A in his English 102 Honors course. Dr. Harnett is one of the best! He is a tough grader but knowledgeable, helpful, and understanding. Grade based on written compositions, written exams and quizzes, completed notes, a research paper, and a final exam. Do not procrastinate and you will do well. Loved his hiking trip to Monrovia Park :)

He is so caring and helpful and best of all funny! over time for his office hours but he is a pretty tough grader, make sure you can spell and be on point with grammar big deal for him. Dr. Harnett is a wonderful person and professor. However, he gives too many assignments and I feel as though he does not have enough time to grade them all. If you have a busy schedule and cant make time to stop by his office numerous times during the semester then you're at a loss. At the end of the semester he may have no essays graded :(

My favorite teacher so far! He is very helpful and is genuinely interested in helping each individual student. Essays are toughly graded, but just go into his office hours as many times as possible to get it re-graded.

Amazing teacher. I took his class just so I could improve my writing skills, and he made me into an amazing essay writer! Im in english 104 and i haven't gotten less than an A on any of my papers because of how much harnett helped me! He constantly pushes you to rewrite your papers and polish your work. One of the best professors you will have at GCC, but also one of the most challenging. He allows revisions, but he's definitely a harsh grader. He is ALWAYS available for office hours to help you though, so take advantage of it!

He's the best professor we have at GCC. He is ready to help you and talk about ANYTHING. He's always doing research in education and motivation, so he's always looking to improve his class and his teaching to better help you and that is rare. Worked very hard and received a C. Very hard essay grader. My 4.0 GPA went down.

There is literally no excuse for you not to get an A in this class. He grades harshly, but then again, essays ARE mainly revision based. If someone gives you an infinite amount of tries to get an A and you don't , it's your fault. Expect to spend a most of your time revising your papers with him. More importantly, expect to improve as a writer.

Prof. Harnett is VERY helpful (I mean he has chairs in his office and tissue boxes ready to go when you're crying). It was not an easy class, mostly because I took the honors version. The essays, research paper, and final make up your grade. I HIGHLY recommend going into office hours as much as possible and revising your essays.

Don't take the class if you dont have time to go to his office hours; he's so friendly & helpful that you'll want to see him anyway. He really wants you to succeed. Pretty much write essay, after essay, after essay (and be prepared to constantly hear, "if you go a bit further...") You can write a Freudian, out of this world, philosophical paper and you'll still get a B. Nice guy tho. Really helpful if you ask. Be prepared to go to his office hours if you want an A and be prepared to take the L if you don't

You cannot get a better professor than Dr. Harnett. He will make you laugh, cry and write the best material you've ever written. Such a sweet, caring and one on one person.

The only way to be sure that you are going to get an A on a paper is to sit in his office to make sure that he revises plenty of times before it's perfect.

Took Harnett for 101H and 102H. There are a handful of papers to write, and never expect to get a good grade the first time. He gives you about a week to revise your paper as much as you want and he will keep on regrading it to help you get a higher grade. He is a great person and is always willing to help. Always in his office and responds emails.

Extremely caring professor. He really cares for his students, and wants everyone to succeed in his class and outside of it as well. Definitely requires a lot of hard work, but revising essays and preparing outlines before in-class essays will get you a good grade. Office hours are a MUST. He's also hilarious so lectures were always a fun time.

Sure, he gives a ton of reading and is a harsh grader, but none of that matters because of how much fun his class is. If you're not a good writer/reader, proceed with caution, but I love him!

Honestly one of the best people I have ever met, and a really good professor. However, he is the hardest grader I have ever seen and it's very difficult, some would even say impossible to get an A in his class. There are 7 essays in total, one of them a research paper. If you can get your honors credits somehow else i recommend taking ENG101 not H.

Dr. Harnett is a WONDERFUL professor. I've heard nothing but kind things about this man. He cares so much about his students and truly wants them to do well. Be ready to read and work (he's not an easy A). Going to his office hours help a lot too. He does make you work for your grade but helps you along the way as well. Don't slack! 100% recommend

Dr. H is too pure for this world. He made me love English again, as he is incredibly passionate about his field and his students. He is incredibly intelligent and very helpful when it comes to your essays. You really need to go to his office hours and SI's. I definitely recommend taking him, regardless of your major. He is an amazing person throughout, and wants you to do better than your best so he will move away from giving you an A so that you work harder than before and try more than you usually do. Dr. Harnett is a dedicated and amazing teacher whose goal is to make sure everyone leaves his class a better writer than before. Although he assigns a fair amount of essays, the topics he assigns gives you ultimate freedom and control, which differentiates him from other English teachers. His lectures are funny and VERY in-depth. He's a MUST TAKE!

This is my first and certainly not my last time having him as an English teacher. I have never respected a teacher more than I have with him. He does assign a lot of essays, although you can take your essays to him to get revised before its due. His class is a little too difficult for an english class which is why I wouldn't take again.

He genuinely wants you to succeed, and as long as he can see that youre putting in the effort, you shouldnt have a problem. Some people on here seem to have a problem with him being too difficult or grading unreasonably, but that wasnt really my experience with him. I took him for both English classes and I had a great experience!

Dr. Harnett is a real gem! His class was pretty demanding and he grades papers pretty hard, but that is expected from an honors course. He is kind, caring, and accommodating, and will give you an extension if you simply ask. If you apply yourself, you WILL succeed in this course, and Dr. Harnett makes it much easier to do so!

Looking back at Dr. Harnett's Eng101H, he really taught me how to be a much better writer and challenged me to constantly put in my maximum, best effort. This was the second class I took with Dr. Harnett and the perfect winter, honors class. Our class was so engaging and the variety of text and media we analyzed made it interesting. Grading based on four essays, one oral report, and one outside report on a chosen movie. His grading was fair, and his feedback was really helpful. Take it for winter!

Attendance is graded, and his lectures are packed with helpful notes, but be prepared to do some outside work for this class. Overall, take him if you actually like writing

He grades tough but if you go to the office hours and ask questions it will help. He responds to emails very fast and cares about your grade.
