Difficult Operations Management course, but an awesome instructor. Don't bother buying the book, though - his lecture supplement is more than enough to do well in the course.

This class is hard. Take someone else. Most of the other profs teaching this class won't be as difficult or give you as much work. The amount of outside work for this class is ridiculous.

He is a boring and not a very good prof. Not the person you want to take any type of math from unless you are naturally good at the math areas touched in this class. If you need help don't go ask him because he won't help, go see the tutor Scott!
very difficult and not very helpful
Encourages students to go the Learning Center for past examinations. Tests may be difficult without referring to past exams. Knows his stuff and will help you out if you ask him. Not a bad professor.
Very tough class. But I graduated 3 years ago and still refer to what I learned in his class. Definitely get past exams and take very good notes you'll need them.
I personally found this class very interesting. The textbook is not necessary...but write down pretty much everything he says in the little red book. There are some good tutors around if you need help.
Ugh...I should've taken ACCT 2200 first before taking Harper, because I learned more in that class than in OPMG, lol. Stay far away...his class is way too difficult and I'm sure there's another professor that teaches it better.
One of the best teachers teh school has got!!
Horrible class, copy somebody else. Easy to get through class. Attendance is NOT manditory, so DON"T GO. I went 4 times. First day, then one for every test. Got an A.

Class was interesting but he did not seem to be able to relate to our level, he was almost too smart to teach those of us who don't know about this topic. Went a little too fast and if you miss one class you will be lost. He's a great guy but does not give very good examples in his little red book so it's hard to understand what's going on.
In terms of class difficulty, you're probably either going find it really easy or really difficult; I fell into the latter category. However, in terms of how much I learned, I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a better class.
This guy knows what he's talking about. Makes class very fun because he presents the material well. GET THE OPTIONAL BOOK, if you don't you will not have anything to reference but a lecture supplement and you will be lost during studies for tests.
Grr...He seems like a nice enough guy, but he seems to think that we have already learned most of this stuff before and that its mainly common sense. His HW is definitely harder than his tests and if you so have to suffer through this class, make sure you get copies of previous tests or at least the book.
This guy is ridiculous. He has no clue how to teach and his little red handbook is riddled with errors and when you get an answer wrong based on these errors, he wont admit that it was his mistake. There are not enough words to explain how terrible a teacher this man is and UC Denver should be ashamed of themselves for ever giving this guy a job.
Harper is an extremely intelligent man, however, not the best teacher. If you go to him for help and activly participate in the process, he'll help you. But, this is a core class and there isn't any other teacher who teaches the course. A study group and getting old tests from others will help you pass the class.
Doesn't do any examples in class.
Attend class and take good notes in the red book and you should be good. Talk to your classmates in this class to get exams from previous semesters, it is great practice.
Fire this guy. Do not take his class. Totally worthless.
What a waste of tuition. He could cover a semester's material in 4 hours flat if he didn't talk so much about himself. He's confusing & confused. If I didn't know proj mgmt when I got to class, I still wouldn't know it. He just reads from incomprehensible MS Word lectures but doesn't teach you anything.
What can I say this class was the most pointless class on the planet. Harper uses this class as an ego boost because none of his colleagues want to hear him rant on and on about his boring life. You will not learn anything and it is almost impossible to get an A.
Tests are much easier than the homeworks, only uses the Redbook, tells lots of "true" stories, it's a math class mostly
The Instructor is not helpful at all. i even got a tutor and i got notes from friends and it still didn't helped. Only by failing one test, you won't pass the class, so you want to make sure that you pass all the tests and homeworks. he doesn't count attendance, so don't even waste your time on going. i wouldn't recomend this instructor.
WORSTTTT Professor EVER!! His homework does not make any sense at all compared to what he teachers in class!! I attended class every time and took really good notes but it was still IMPOSSIBLE to finish the homework and get a good grade on it... NEVER take a class with him, its a waste!!
It could be a really easy class if you have previous homework and tests, they re all identical except the numbers are changed - I passed with an A but without those ones it ll be a bit harder to pass the class with a good grade.
The students who complain about this teacher simply don't attend, don't do the homework, or don't pay attention. You have to attend, take good notes, and seek the intructor out if you are having problems. I failed the first test but with hard work, turned it around to an A.
I enjoyed this class very much. He focuses on logically addressing issues in operations mgmt. Get a study group together. Find tests/past homeworks for reference (he encourages this). Ask him questions, invite him to your study group. He doesn't _want_ anyone to fail.
He was a very difficult instructor, hard to follow and understand, there is a very low amount of points so make sure you pass everything you turn in or else you won't do good, its doable but very difficult.
He taught an online class, and was absent for a long period. I didn't get anything out of his $1500 course.
Stay away from this professor for BUSN 6630. Horrible workload that's confusing. Worst class I've taken so far at this school. He will tell you the material which seems pretty simple and then his homework and memos are super difficult.
If you want to pass this class join on of the study groups or make your own! He flys through the materials and does not like questions in class. Unfortunately he is the only one who teaches this course right now. Go to class and help each other out to pass!
He's a nice enough guy but I think it's time for him to retire. He flies through the material and can be hard to follow. His Red Book is very helpful. Don't bother buying the text, it hardly supports the material he covers in class. The class is difficult but doable if you put a lot of time in.
Don't buy the required textbook. His Red Book would be sufficient for you to get good grades on the homework and the exams for the course. He talks so fast, and does not like to explain things again. Also, don't expect to get a clear answer to your question he is only going to guide you enough for you to struggle figuring out what to do.
Dr. Harper is a great professor. He gives you all you need to be successful. Do the homeworks and re-do the homeworks over and over. It will help you to do well on the exams.
Dr. Harper has been a businessman all his life and that's how he teaches class. He wants you to learn and isn't just going to give you the answer. Overall the class isn't too difficult but you have to work for your grade. Homework is way harder than the tests which I think is a good thing because he will help you with the homework if you ask!TakeIt
Dr. Harper has many different degrees and a real enthusiasm for teaching. He tries to make the material both understandable and applicable to real-world situations. Sometimes he gets sidetracked from the main topic but he is always interesting, funny, and passionate about business. Do not buy the main text - he just uses the red book.
I absolutely love Dr. Harper. He relates all of his material to real life and gives you great advise! He is so sweet and is so willing to help if you ask. Would absolutely take again!
He seems to be a nice person and his redbook is helpful. But the home works, memos and exams are confusing.
Having the red book helps for tests. Find a group and study together. I got an A and this was the most boring class ever.
Honestly I haven't the faintest idea how I, or anyone for that matter, passed this class. There is no help, no explanation of concepts and the book (which he wrote himself) is unfathomable. Worst class I have ever taken, but it's a core so good luck avoiding it. The only way to survive is to collaborate on homework and study old tests.
Assignments and exams are based solely on lectures so attendance is very important. However, he is a very boring lecturer so get a large coffee before class haha.
I felt like it was a common sense class but you definitely need to attend in order to "get it". Also I took lots of notes because there wasn't much to practice with. Link up with students who have previous exams and homeworks for help
Professor Harper is an extremely intelligent man but isn't not a very good teacher of the material. Over half the class felt confused or completely lost during majority of the lectures. You had to usually go home and re-teach yourself the material using YouTube or Google to help you work through the hw or prepare for exams. Very tough class!
This was an extremely frustrating class for me to get through. The material is not intuitive, so it didn't help that Dr. Harper was rarely available for questions. You are only allowed to email him in the case of an "emergency." I had to get help from a study group, and even then I didn't learn very much. The final is optional but cumulative.
Dr. Harper's class was fairly easy, if you have a math brain you should be able to get an A. If not you can still pass with an B or C.
Dr Harper is well versed in his field of study, however it is very difficult to understand exactly what he is talking about in class. I wasn't able to understand what he was talking about in class, until I completed the homework and we discussed afterward. The only way I was able to understand the homework was from the discussion boards. Good luck!
Lectures are very dry and boring, very difficult to pay attention to. Still helpful when working through his homework. Three mandatory tests and homeworks, final is optional. Find his previous tests to study, makes the class much easier. He's the only professor who teaches ops management and every BUS Core students has to take the class.
Dr. Harper is the first professor I've ever had who refuses to communicate with his students. The teaching profession is definitely not a good fit for his personality. Also, the homework assignments were riddled with typos and they were not posted in a timely manner.
He gets a bad reputation because a bit boring but he's a good professor. He treats you like an adult, tells you what you need to know for exams, and is very knowledgable in operations management. He's not my favorite professor but he's reasonable and expectations are clear.
Very hard to follow, even though the material is not that difficult (if it was presented in a better way).
If you don't show up for class, it won't matter. He will not really teach you the material in class, he will go through the red book that HE wrote. Ask questions in class? He will just get mad and then say: just look in the book. Although the book doesn't show you how to calculate anything. So, good luck to you all.
My interactions with him were nothing but negative. I was attempting to enroll in the course (that had 3 spots available) and he told me that he "didn't have the authority to sign add forms" even though he totally does. I'm disgusted by the fact that this has been a constant issue and he continues to get away with it. Communication is nonexistent.
Very quick and short. If you need extra time or explanation, you won't be comfortable asking. He lectures sitting down from his computer. Dropped class- will try the online section next semester. Unfortunately, he is the only BANA 3000 professor that teaches on campus.
The only thing I like about his class is that we can use redbook for the exams. But It's so hard to follow his lectures because he goes through it fast and all the materials aren't easy to understand. Too short time for exams. Never replies back emails, not very friendly, not very willing to help. ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS AT UCD.
He is worst professor i ever seen in UCD. Exams are extremely tough. Homework is never same on exams. He will not help any other students. Unfortunately, he is only one teacher teaches this course. I would recommend take online class....
One of the most difficult classes I have taken at UCD, the tests are hard and he is really bad at teaching the material.
-Doesn't respond to email/communicate outside of class in a timely manner if at all (if you call what he does in class communication) -Teaches from a book he wrote so if you don't understand lecture, the text won't be much more help - worst prof/class I've had - very tactical, not opps management strategy - most won't use 99% of stuff taught
One of the worst professors I ever had. Maybe he is a good at his subject in the professional field. But he absolutely sucks at teaching and explaining it.
I already fail this class. his homework and exams are difficult. he is one of the worst professor i ever met in ucd. he will get mad for asking question. he is horrible professor.
Very clear cut grading criteria, but difficult class. The final grade is based off of 3 homework assignments and 3 tests, so don't screw any of them up! Attendance is not mandatory, but you will definitely get super confused, fall behind, and fail if you don't attend class more than a couple times.
The tests are similar for every semester, so try to find someone who took this class before, and get the exam key. Study for it, then this class would be easier.
Do the homework with a group. The day after the HW is due he reviews it and tells you specifically which types of questions will be on the exam. Study only these.
This class is hard. Don't believe otherwise. The professor is clearly very knowledgeable about his field and wants his students to be too. He grades 3 homework's and 3 exams. Take advantage of study groups and don't do the homework alone. Tests are very short, meant to test the knowledge of the information, not the real world application behind it.
He's terrible at explaining the material. He doesn't review at all even when the whole class is saying that we don't understand. I would never take another class with him.
Dr. Harper is the best instructor I have had in the Bus. School. His classes are clearly laid out in his syllabus, and he sticks to it. Homework is difficult and time consuming, if you put in the time on the homework however his exams will be an absolute breeze.
This was an online class. The provided lecture materials covered in depth the material that needed to be understood in order to do well on homework and tests. Like other classes with Dr. Harper, hard homework and easy exams. This course was well put together. I was cautious about taking a summer online class, it however turned out to be enjoyable.
Dr. Harper did an excellent job in this stats class. The class mostly utilized excel for stats, and later used another program. I found the homework to be a little difficult and very time consuming. The exams were simple because the homework prepared me well. Dr. Harper in my opinion is the best instructor in the business school, put in the work.
Dr. Harper is the worst professor I've ever had; his homework requires hours to complete and his "explanations" are confusing and explain absolutely nothing about the material. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. If you are confused, ask another student because he provides no clarification.
More than the data, he helps us reading and analyzing the data correctly.
I am a student that is prepared to graduate with honors, however I am about to get a D in this class. The three homeworks and exams have nothing to do with the lecture, and the mandatory textbook he makes you buy is little to no help. Take this class online if you can, or with someone else. It shouldn't be as hard as he makes it.
Dr. Harper is the first professor I've ever had who refuses to communicate with his students. If you don't show up for class, it won't matter. He will not really teach you the material in class so, good luck to you all.
Get ready to teach yourself. The lectures are completely unrelated to the material on the exams. VERY exhausting lectures as you gain no new knowledge. I was able to pass by studying upwards of 9 hours for each exam as I had to teach myself the material for the first time. Homework is unrelated to exams. All I can say is GOOD LUCK.
It is a tough class but if you put in the work of studying you will have a good time. Great professor and if you aren't lazy you can do well. The "Red Book" is super helpful and he lets you use it on exams. Don't complain about the work, it genuinely helps for the real world.
Dr. Harper is a poor teacher. It's frustrating because the material is useful & usable in business. Dr. Harper utterly lacks the skill of explaining, which is what teaching is. He has clear grading criteria, and you can learn in this class, you'll just literally teach yourself.
Engineers mind, so doesn't understand how more than half of his class (non-engineering background) learns. As a question in class and he'll return a non-answer. Out of three hour class, some nights half was not related to material. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, only the redbook, which he created, and his website are covered in lectures, quizzes, tests.
Avoid this professor at all costs. He makes you buy his personal book. The class is unnecessarily difficult. The material is beyond what you need to know. Instead of a managerial class it is an advanced statistics course. His homework method is confusing and he refers you to his YouTube channel for lecture. Tests outweighs all homework.
In what will be my final college/graduate level course, Dr. Harper is hands down the worst professor I've ever had, and it isn't even close. You're going to learn the material yourself. Lecture videos do little to assist. His arrogance regarding his "simple" course material is extremely detrimental to the learning of those w/out math backgrounds
No explanations to problems in his book, strict rules for sending emails which he rarely responds anyway. Minimal explanations for hw, pretty much gives the answer and that's it. There is no time devoted to actually teaching concepts and everything is explained thru examples which are hard to grasp without theproper background. Wish I could give a 0
DON'T PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOK ONLY PURCHASE THE RED BOOK! Attend class even though it's not required and watch all the lecture videos (they help). Make a google doc for the homeworks with other students in the course through Canvas-discussions (our class did and it helped so much). Homeworks are tough, you will need all the help you can get. Goodluck
I am not a math person, and this is definitely a tough class but you can do it! Do not buy the text, I didn't crack it once, you just need the red book. How to pass: get a study group ASAP, stay after and get help if you need it, don't fall behind! You will learn really useful stuff
It's as hard as you've already heard. Go into it strong, ask for help from he TA and tutors, hire someone if necessary (it's worth it), do the homework and practice based off previous material. If you start weak and have to take the optional final you won't pass.
He is the worst professor and I can't believe he is the only one that teaches this class. He will not work with you to receive a better grade in the class , the homework is hard because you have to teach yourself by looking at his videos online that are not even related to hw. Exam content is hard and you'll have no idea what is going to be on it.
He knows the material inside and out and is excited about teaching it. The lectures are dry and there is A TON of outside of class work. I spent 8-12 hours every Saturday just to do the homework. The exams are really challenging but he gives everyone a 100% on the final project which increases your grade. Don't buy the book because we never open it
Michaels tests are killer. The material really isn't difficult to learn, he gives you a red book to use on all tests and homework. Going to the review sessions are a must! If you can do the homework you can do the tests, so really study the homework beforehand. Tests are only 15 questions-multiple choice and no partial credit. So you must do well!
He spends class time talking about his personal experience instead of doing practice problems. His answers to any student questions are unclear and he tries to connect every lesson to "the real world". HW and Quiz assignment due every SATURDAY that are time consuming but nothing like the test. You'll have to teach yourself the content before exams
Harper is one of the nicest professors you are ever going to have. He's not going to feed you answers but he's more sympathetic than these reviews would have you believe. Your grade will primarily come down to tests but if you've done all the homework you'll be fine. He lets you use your companion book on the test so make sure you keep up.
Harper will refer you to this YouTube videos that show you how to work out the material using Excel. However, the exams do not use Excel. No partial credit. Do not buy the textbook. Try to take the class with another professor.
Inarguably the worst professor Ive ever had. Instead of going to this class, you should use your time more wisely and get a side job staring into the sun.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID - worst professor ever, he spends more time telling stories than teaching the material on the test. Hard to follow and understand with lil to no resources available. Makes you watch utube videos to learn, this professor is not suited to teach or create curriculum for students. He hands down is the worst prof I have ever had
Beware his homework is literally harder than his tests. He's a nice old guy but the how he teaches contains to much useless material and how to use excel along side it, goes off topic a lot and refers to his Youtube videos. His tests are based or is similar to previous semesters so study that and at least understand the topic and easy A.
Dr. Harper is terrible! Do not take him! He is knowledgeable about the subject but awful at teaching. He has you watch lectures online but then doesn't talk about the topics again in class. He gives 0 feedback on HW or Quizzes, 0 practice problems in class which dont prepare you for the exams. Uses excel only for hw/quiz but not needed for exams
It's more like skip the videos & you won't pass. SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON VIDs b/c he will not go over items in class. He spends like 80% of class on tangents. Does not often reply to emails. His exams literally take questions from hw/quizes. Spend the time doing those every week & you will do fine on exams. Exam points are high 4/question Beware!
Do not take this Professor unless you want to spend hours teaching yourself! His lectures don't teach you anything, homework is hard, and tests even harder. Poor teaching all around- highly recommend you take with another Professor!
He gives a lot of info but, only about 25% is on tests. If you have the patience to take your time, go through his lectures and really listen, this class is easy. Dr. Harper cares, he gives additional info b/c of this, which makes the class seem complex. Don't be fooled, it's not hard, he gives you all the info you need and is very kind and caring.
Dr. Harper is a very knowledgeable Professor! Don't get me wrong the first week I felt so lost and very stressed, but he was very supportive and helped me. He really wants people to learn the material and cares about his students success. If you are willing to learn and put the work in you will do fine! REDBOOKSUCCESS, use it to take notes in.
I feel Harper gets a bad rep and his rating doesn't accurately define him. His expectations of the class is not very clear at the beginning but once you realize his meaning behind the homework and the test, you'll get a good flow. Tips: put ALL notes in the redbook, collaborate on the homework, and utilize him as a resource (on the hw).
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT take a class with Michael Harper, if it can be avoided. His class for graduate students requires over 20 hours outside of class time for work per week! Additionally, he does not teach in class and expects you to learn all the material through his videos found on his website...
Dr. Harper is a good guy, but not a good proffesor. He consistently wastes students time with uninspired stories and long lectures with little actual content. He is patronizing in the level and speed at which he teaches his class. Often he will teach the class as if they are in kindergarten. He also makes mistakes in his grading and presentations.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Wishy washy, goes off on long drawn out tangents that have nothing to do with subject material, doesn't teach information well in class, and expects students to use "instructional videos" for homework and memo assignments. Spend 12+ hours each weekend working through worthless assignments. Stay Away!!
The rating he has defenelty does not represent him. Yeah he goes on tangents but they are funny and do not affect us so why get mad, his videos are really good and if you do the home works with his live streams you will pass the class easy. I might not remember everything I learn in class but I passed and that's it.
I agreed that the rating he has does not represent him, at all. Dr Harper admitted he has changed his teaching approach so maybe that's why? For us the class is extremely well structured and practical. His livestream are gems. He would explain every assignments in details and show us exactly how to interpret/solve it. Great learning experience!
Yes! this class does require a lot of works, but it's so practical and I have learned so much from Dr. Harper's livestream and his insights into the industry consulting world. The memos are time-consuming yet fun to do. The quizzes and homeworks are well explained. He even showed you step by step on how to approach each problem. Great quality class
I was very appreciative of the effort he took to create an online model that was accessible for many learning styles. Information is presented in his red book (don't even bother buying the additional textbook) and he provides live lectures and helpful video tutorials. Don't buy the textbook and plan to spend 20hrs/week on work. It's intensive.
Beware, the class is not as easy as it seems! The grade consists of 6 homework's (60%) One Project (10%) and One Final Exam (30%). It is really difficult to get a perfect score on the homework and you can only miss up to 30 points. Teachers posts lots of helpful material on youtube. Homework is time consuming. Barely passed the class.
DO NOT take BANA 2010 with this professor online. He does not respond to emails and is only available over zoom office hours. He's probably a decent guy he just doesn't explain anything well and his homework is very hard. I had to hire a stats tutor and even she had no idea what he was talking about. Don't take this class.
BANA 2010. On several occasions Dr. Harper contradicted himself in lectures. Grading was inconsistent and the professor changed our grades without explanation--since students had pointed out errors on the tests and homework assignments, causing grades to jump all over! Terrible communicator! Swore in class!
I took Dr. Harper for BANA2010 and his 8-week course. It was very hard, the class is graded on a few assignments. If you take his class be aware it is hard to reach him outside the lectures he does on youtube. Had trouble with homework, he would say one answer was right but grade it differently on the homework. But he was nice.
Very few graded assignments, each question is 4 or more questions within itself. That one question is worth one grade point. He does not let you know what is or is not correct on the HW. So you have to ask. Do not email, he wont answer you. Zoom office hours only. Caring, willing to help, inconsistencies on HW, No rubric for project. Ehh lectures
Dr. Harper is really smart and well-educated, but his teaching methods do not work for the majority of his online students. This class began with a very confusing introduction which was 7 pages long. This word doc format is the worst for learning. Sure all the info and equations fit into the doc, but the overload of info is too much for students.
I feel like he is a very talented professor and his lectures made sense to me and he made a few funny jokes. However, for an intro class, he wasn't the best fit. For classes for upper-division classes I think he would be great. I wasn't even sure if I was going to pass. His grading is very strict so pay attention to grading criteria. Final was Easy
Minimal workload but you dont get a lot of chances to make mistakes: grading is based only on 6 hws, one final exam, and a short project. But, if you pay close attention to his videos, the information is pretty straightforward and he essentially walks you through everything up until the final answers.
You can tell he is a good guy, I haven't had any problems with him. The course is pretty excel heavy and a lot of calculus. If you need timely responses to emails and some of his videos to be put out on time then I would think about a different teacher, this one won't do that. Recommend if you like math and stats, but not if you like business.
This is the hardest class I've taken at CU Denver. Even though he has a lot of resources to help you through the material, the concepts are not clear. I spend HOURS going through everything, and still end up confused. It is unnecessarily hard.
He's clearly a very smart guy, but the work is so complicated and he glosses over everything. He tests on specifics but doesn't cover specifics in his lectures. One of the worst classes I've ever taken. You're on your own to learn everything. He teaches according to his specific experience rather than industry or academic trends
This is literally the only choice you have for a professor in this class. One professor teaches this class, and it's required MBA core curriculum. He makes videos where he goes over quantitative problems, but not qualitative. He quizzes on material that he does not cover. When asked for assistance he provides none. I have to drop out.
Dr. Harper has provided one of the best classes I've taken. He takes what could be very complicated material, and through his intensive YouTube videos literally walks you through every single quiz, homework, and memo assignment he has. Very digestible - if you're not used to Excel, you will want to slow down his videos to keep up.
Dr. Harper's class is graded on so few items with no feedback or chance for correction that one or two bad grades and you have almost no chance for recovery. Very excel heavy class, the excel sheets he provides during the lectures are not formatted correctly for the homework be prepared to format them yourself.
This class was hard, every homework question is worth roughly 1-2% of your final grade. No late work accepted, but he is very clear about his standards. If you watch his homework and final exam videos you should be fine, but don't expect to get any slack on assignments.
Dr. Harper is the smartest prof in the Business School. He is practically genius with a touch of humor. Homework and quizzes can be tricky, but he walks you through each assignment (almost too generously). Just need to think through the problems, read carefully, and you will be fine. Highly recommend forming a study group. Do not buy the textbook.
